The 10 Very Best Men’s Dopp Kits

Compact enough to squeeze in a carry-on and durable enough to withstand years of travel..

A great Dopp kit will keep your grooming essentials organized once you reach your destination and prevent them from leaking in your bag while you’re in transit. It must be waterproof (or at least water-resistant ), have a wide opening that means you won’t have to rummage around, and have a handy loop or hook for easy storage in whatever bathrooms your trips take you to. To find the best Dopp kits that meet these criteria, I cross referenced recommendations we’ve received over the years from stylish men who are always on the go , from grooming experts to creative directors. Then I ordered samples to test those recommendations out for myself, placing products inside and playing around with how they’d fit into various compartments. Below, find well-organized pouches and bags for every kind of trip. While you’re here, I’ve also written about the best travel toiletry bottles and personal-item carry-on bags for flying .

What we’re looking for

Hanger type.

One thing all the best Dopp kits have is either a hook or handle so it can be hung up when you get to your destination. It gives you back some counter space and it ensures your stuff won’t be sitting in water all day. It means you can carry it around easily instead of having to “hold it like a football,” according to photographer Gray Malin . Ones with hooks, called hanging dopp kits, take it a step further and allow you to open up the bag while it’s hanging, which gives you a full view of all your products. “It unfolds like a mini garment bag and has a little hanger so you can keep your stuff out of the sink,” Nick Greene, author of How to Watch Basketball Like a Genius , describes his pick. “It makes you feel grown,” Greene summarizes, “without busting your bank.”

Surprisingly, few of the travelers we spoke to prioritized compartments within the Dopp kit as something they were looking for. While they are a bonus, “you don’t need a lot of zippers, pockets, and compartments,” Peter Hunsinger, the co-founder of sock brand Kane 11 , says. He prefers something easy to open that allows you to see everything. Our experts were above all concerned with the size of the kit. Most of the cases below have room for your skin-care routine and travel-size toiletries, but there are a few ten-liter Dopp kits that appear on our list, which are large enough to hold a compact blow-dryer or clippers. While the latter may take up more room for those who travel light, the size is ideal for those who can’t travel without taking a chunk of their bathroom. Every bag on this list is made from a fabric flexible enough to squish into an already stuffed suitcase or weekender, so the larger size shouldn’t be a problem.

Speaking of material, that seems to be the most important thing to consider when buying a Dopp kit. Something durable, easy to clean, and water resistant is what you want to look for. You’ll find that many are made from nylon, which is wipeable in case of spills. It won’t be ruined by sitting on a wet countertop. Leather, silicone, and canvas have these qualities as well, the latter of which is another popular option among our experts. The thick material is durable and affordable, and it can look more distinguished than other common Dopp kit materials. Like the other fabrics, they can be wiped or spot-cleaned. The material on the inside is just as important. It should be easy to clean and waterproof or resistant as well. For that, nylon or canvas is the way to go.

The last thing to consider is how easy it is to get to your products, which is easiest with a Dopp kit that unzips all the way around to lie flat. This is guaranteed with hanging bags, while with others it’s a toss-up. Each of the options below either unzips fully or has a wide mouth.

Best toiletry bag overall

Aer Travel Kit

Hanger type: Hook | Size: 2.5 L | Material: Nylon | Access: Wide opening

For just under $50, here’s a hanging toiletry bag with multiple compartments that’s literally constructed from ballistic nylon , a material that was originally developed to protect soldiers from shrapnel. So I think you can reasonably expect it to arrive at LAX unscathed. We first heard about the Aer travel kit from Barron Cuadro, the founding editor of Effortless Gent , who says that the nylon is not only “crazy durable” but also very easy to clean. It’s also water-resistant on both the interior and exterior, and when you open it up, you’ll find it unzips fully so you can see everything inside. It has a hidden hook for hanging and while compact when zipped up, still manages to fit all your necessities. On the outside, there are front and back pockets as well as an exterior toothbrush holder. Inside, there are two zippered pockets and elastic organizers for your toiletry bottles. I also like that it has YKK zippers and an antimicrobial coating on the liner.

Best (less expensive) hanging toiletry bag

Muji Hanging Case

Hanger type: Hook | Size: | Material: Polyester | Access: Wide opening

For less than half the price of the Aer bag, you can get this one by Muji. Compared to the Aer, it’s significantly smaller and made from a cheaper material, polyester. But it doesn’t feel flimsy, and when I placed travel-size bottles of shampoo and conditioner inside (Muji’s own reusable toiletry bottles are obviously very compatible, but others work too), they were well-secured. A toothbrush fits easily, but you’ll have to place it horizontally. While the fabric might not be as nice as ballistic nylon, it’s still very resilient and quick-drying. And honestly, I find that larger Dopp kits can sometimes just encourage overpacking of bulky tools and products. This Muji case is the bag Greene said made him feel “grown,” with its garment-bag-style hanging option. Inside, there are two zippered pockets and four elastic holders for bottles or grooming tools. Then there’s another zippered pocket on the front of the bag, plus another slip pocket on the back.

Best extra-large toiletry bag

Patagonia Black Hole Cube

Hanger type: Carry loop | Size: 10L | Material: Polyester ripstop | Access: Wide opening

Sometimes you have to think outside the box to find the best solution to your problem. Bags that aren’t technically Dopp kits, such as this Patagonia packing cube , might actually be the best thing for storing your toiletries. Like the rest of the brand’s products, it’s built for the outdoors. Matt Kays, a senior vice-president at PR Consulting, relies on this Patagonia number for its ripstop, practically indestructible exterior. He actually has two: He uses one as a Dopp kit for travel and the other as a wet bag to hold his things when he goes to the beach, so you know the water resistance is serious. This packing cube doesn’t have many compartments, which Hunsinger actually appreciates. It unzips to lie flat and opens like a hard-shell suitcase: Both sides are separated by a mesh zippered partition. One side alone can hold a pair of shoes, so you’d easily be able to stuff all your grooming products as well as clippers or a travel blow-dryer in here if you needed to. This bag has both a top handle and a daisy chain for clipping it to something else or hanging it from a hook.

Best (less expensive) extra-large toiletry bag

Topo Designs 10L Cube Pack Bag, Olive

Hanger type: Carry loop | Size: 10 L | Material: Nylon | Access: Wide opening

This is another packing cube turned Dopp kit. But here, you get the same-size bag for half the cost. Topo Designs makes a specific, triangular-shaped toiletry bag, but barber Mark Miguez, of New York City’s Friend of a Barber , prefers its ten-liter packing cube because it lies flat, adding that he has used “so many Dopp kits for work” and that this is the one he has been happiest with. It’s cheaper than the Topo Designs Dopp kit. It’s made from  400D nylon , which has great abrasion resistance, water resistance, and tear strength. It has a U-shaped opening, so it lies flat, and you can easily toss in and retrieve your products. It has a nice loop handle, which makes it easy to hang in places without counter-height surfaces. There are no compartments inside, so you’ll want to make sure your toiletry caps are screwed on tight and not breakable, as there’s nothing to hold them in place.

Best mini toiletry bag

Mini Kenyatta Want Les Essentials Bag

Hanger type: Two carry loops | Size: 4 L | Material: Organic cotton and nylon | Access: Double zip opening

Photographer Johnathon Daniel Pryce ( @garconjon ) travels for weeks at a time, so he needs a toiletry kit that fit his essentials without being bulky. “I’ve owned this style for about six years now,” he says. “It’s gone around the world with me and it still looks brand new.” With a double zip, there’s easy access to your toiletries, and a removable nylon liner makes wiping clean any spills fuss-free. It’s also pleasing to look at, says Pryce, who also regularly takes the bag to both the beach and the gym.

Best waterproof toiletry bag

Tooletries Koby Bag

Hanger type: No carry loop | Size: 5.9 L | Material: Silicone | Access: Average opening

Tooletries makes waterproof silicone accessories that suction to your shower wall, making your grooming tools accessible and the whole experience more streamlined. It has thought of everything from a soap holder to a beer holder to a shower mirror and has brought its technology outside the shower with this silicone Dopp kit. Its waterproof, leather-looking, antibacterial silicone is what Kyle Bergman, former senior merchant at Birchbox and founder of Swoveralls, loves most about the bag, saying it’s “leakproof and essentially stain-resistant,” as well as “very easy to clean.” It doesn’t have as much of a handle as some others, but based on the product images, the loop seems to have been designed to be big enough to fit a finger through, though using it with a carabiner to hook on to another bag might be more comfortable. It’s a medium-size bag compared to the other Dopp kits on this list, but Bergman was still impressed with the size: “It’s like an old-school Chevy Suburban inside with the amount of room it has for various products.” He didn’t mention the zipper or how easy it was to access products, but the opening is visibly smaller than others on this list. You’ll still be able to access your toiletries, but you might not be able to see them all at once.

Best toiletry bag with a waterproof compartment

Herschel Chapter Dopp Kit

Hanger type: Extra large carry loop | Size: 5 L | Material: Nylon canvas | Access: Wide opening

Dylan Raasch , senior design director at Nike , always travels for work with this toiletry bag from Herschel. “I’ve been on dozens of trips with it and it looks as new as the day I bought it. It’s easy to clean and seems to fit everything I need without having to dig around.” It doubles as a travel and storage item, where Raasch keeps his things organized so his partner can take up shelf space with her toiletries. The bag is also a favorite of Strategist editor Maxine Builder. She says it has just the right amount of pockets — enough that everything has a space, but not so many that she forgets where she’s put something. She’s also a fan of the oversize hook, which has “proved to be really useful when I’m digging through a duffel bag .”

Best leather toiletry bag

Dopp Admiral Travel Kit

Hanger type: Carry Loop | Size: 3.6 L | Material: Leather | Access: Wide opening

For a classic option, here’s the original Dopp model that gave these kits their name. Investment banker Tsz Hin Kwok says he has used his leather Dopp kit “pretty much daily” for the past few years because it’s longer than most other kits (but still portable). We reached out to Dopp, who told us that Kwok’s exact model is no longer in production, but pointed us towards this remarkably similar option. Like Kwok’s, the kit is also made from leather, which means it’s built to last and luxurious. At a length of 10.25, it’s great for oblong items like a hairbrush, or full-size tubes of toothpaste or hair gel if you’re checking a bag. The kit also has a flat bottom and a wide mouth like a vintage doctor’s bag, as well as a convenient carry loop.

Best luxury-leather toiletry bag

Leatherology Double-Zip Toiletry Bag — Cognac

Hanger type: Carry loop | Size: 5.5 L | Material: Leather | Access: Wide opening

Given your Dopp kit will inevitably become smeared with toothpaste, it feels slightly wrong to recommend purchasing anything too extravagant. But if you are prepared to make more of an investment, this leather kit is a worthwhile splurge. It’s good-looking but not too precious to get dirty. The outside wipes clean anyway, and the inside lining is water resistant in case of leaks or spills. These double zippered pockets are equal in size, adding to the “structural” design that made Gray attracted to it. (And it looks a lot like the $1,790 Tom Ford bag the Points Guy recommended to us but comes at a fraction of the cost. ) It’s perfect for overpackers, traveling with a partner, or just separating your a.m. and p.m. routines. As Gray says, “It just fits everything.” It has the extra-special touch of being customizable: You can choose between signature and premium leather, and if you purchase it from Leatherology, there is an option to monogram it for an additional $10 to $15. Malin went with a rose-gold monogram, but you can pick from 22-karat gold, silver, or other options.

Best flexible toiletry bag

Topo Designs Men's Travel Kit

Hanger type: Carry loop | Size: 3 L | Material: Coated nylon | Access: Wide opening

Thomas Pardee , brand director at Lupine Creative, likes this flexible toiletry bag that’s easy to squish into tight spaces in his suitcase. That’s not to say the bag is small. “The triangular shape is deceptively roomy,” Pardee says. It sits upright on any surface without tipping over, but in case of spills, its coated-nylon fabric is water resistant and easy to wipe clean. The kit also has a heavy-duty zipper with handy grab tabs to pull on, as well as a sturdy strap to loop over a hook.

Dopp kits come in handy for all types of use. Whether you're going home for the weekend or spending time overseas during this festive season, the best men's toiletry bags will hold everything you need to keep your skin, hair, and body in top shape throughout your trip. Not leaving town for the holidays? A Dopp kit is also useful as an everyday hack to help keep your beard products , electric shavers , and moisturizer nice and tidy.

Why Trust Us?

To find the best men's toiletry bags, we enlisted the help of our gear and grooming editor, and talked to five travel experts on which dopp kits they use to pack. After testing and receiving feedback on more than 50 men's toiletry bags, we found that the best men's toiletry bags are made with a waterproof material like canvas or nylon to keep any liquid spills contained (think: face washes , toothpaste , and lotions ), and to make spot cleaning easy. They should also have at least two inside pockets to separate and organize different types of products. For weekend travels, our experts says a dopp kit with a 2 liter capacity should get the job done, but for longer adventures, you'll probably need a men's toiletry bag with a max capacity of at least 5 liters. Also, men's toiletry bags with a hook are especially useful if you want to hang them in your bathroom to keep your products dry, and so you can see them easily.

Ahead, you'll find the best toiletry bags for men that'll help you stay organized. From larger options that'll hold manscaping groomers and products (which will look just as great on the road as they will on your bathroom counter) to smaller styles you can easily throw into your travel backpack, there's something in here for you. Check out all of these excellent bags below.

If you need a compact dopp kit that you can stuff a weekend's worth of grooming products in, Paravel's bag is your guy. Deputy Commerce Editor Christian Gollayan bought this Paravel kit in 2020, and he's been using it on all of his travel.

"It fits easily into my weekender bags and carry-on luggage, but is roomy enough to pack all of my essentials in," he said. Messy travelers will love its nylon fabric, which is stain and liquid resistant, and is easy to clean. Travelers who are packing for longer trips may want a bigger bag, though.

Four of our editors have been using Away's large toiletry bag (alongside the brand's bestselling luggage) because it beats out the competition. It's a reliable kit that prioritizes function as much as it does style.

For the outer, a nylon water-resistant fabric helps repel and contain potential spills. For the inner, a water-resistant fabric (again) and a nifty mesh bag help store your razors and liquids in a uniform manner. Plus, it has a sleek, discreet design that's so aesthetically pleasing.

When it comes to waterproof bags, Rains makes some of the best. Our editors love its heavy polyurethane coating and water-resistant zipper, which makes sure not a single drop gets in (or out) of its compact main compartment. One tester found that his lotion exploded inside the wash bag, and found that it didn't spill over to the rest of his luggage.

Simple, spacious, and tough as nails, this toiletry bag from Everlane is bound to last for years to come. For starters, the zipper sliders and pullers are constructed from both metal and recycled polyester.

For quick and extensive trips, this minimal bag has held up nicely without any scuffs. With five interior pockets, we've always been able to load everything from cologne and hand balm to our skincare essentials with no problem. The cherry on top is the bag can snap down for compact travel or roll back for easy access.

Lululemon’s travel kit was designed for the guy who’s on the move. Complete with water-repellent fabric and a volume of 5L, our testers found that it’ll hold everything you could need, including your electric razor , face moisturizer , and pomade —and there will still be room for more.

As far as we know, it's the only Dopp kit that's been through rigorous military field-testing. Our testers are not in the military, but still put this toiletry bag through the paces, and found that it can handle shaving cream spills and bumpy cross-country flights.

DD D&D Wanderlust Hanging Travel Toiletry Bag

Toiletry bags with hooks let you hang them on bathroom doors so they can stay dry, and allow you to easily see your grooming products. This one from D&D Wanderlust has received tons of five-star reviews for its compact design and easy-to-clean fabric.

"I use it every time I travel," says travel writer Nadia Podrabinek . "The hanging hook makes it easy to use when showering, or just storing my items in the bathroom." Though she did note that the zippers can get stuck sometimes, they're easy to open after a few tries.

Minimalist packers love this small-but-mighty toiletry bag, which has a waterproof nylon case that's hard to tear or rip. Dustin Sitar, CEO of The Groom Club , says this is the best dopp kit he's personally tested, and has been using it since January 2023. "It's great for outdoor excursions, and it's leakproof, so a broken cologne bottle won't affect the rest of your luggage," says Sitar.

Two of our travel experts recommended Vetelli's classic dopp kit, which has a leather build that can take stains and scratches and has a couple of inner mesh pouches for liquid containers. Larry Snider, VP of Operations at Casago CB Rentals, bought this toiletry bag in 2021, and has been using it for his monthly travels.

"It's incredibly functional since it has two large compartments," he says. "I use one for larger items like my shave kit and toothbrush, and I use the other one for smaller items like floss and nail clippers. It keeps everything organized, accessible, and secure." Though he did note that it takes up a good chunk of space in his carry-on luggage, so this may not be ideal if you're trying to travel light.

This small, under-$50 toiletry bag will hold all the essentials—which is great for those who want to travel light. We like this bag (1) for its simple minimalist design and (2) for its eco-friendly construction. There's also a removable pouch, which will make it easier to access the smaller things. Though at 2 L, some testers did not think this might not big enough for guys who like to pack a ton of grooming supplies.

Guys who pack for more rugged adventures, like camping, should go with a durable, affordable toiletry bag that can take a licking. Take this one from Tintao, which is an Amazon bestseller. Travel writer Ethan Williams bought this in 2019, and takes it to all his camping trips, since it can hold most of his grooming tools and larger toiletries without taking up too much room.

"The durable canvas material can withstand rough handling, and is easy to clean," he says. Though he says that the lack of inside pockets make organizing smaller items (like hand sanitizers) challenging.

Briggs & Riley Executive Essentials Toiletry Kit

Executive Essentials Toiletry Kit

Frequent fliers who like to take a bunch of grooming products with them praise this Briggs & Riley bag, which holds up to 5 L of gear. Travel writer Nick Burgess took this toiletry kit on more than 15 trips last year. "It's compact enough to slot into my carry-on, but strong enough to take the smushing when I'm cramming everything in my bag," he says.

"It also has the structure to sit on a self, as well as hook on the bathroom door." Plus, it comes with a lifetime warranty, so you can replace it for free if it breaks down. One downside: it doesn't look great. "But if you don't care too much about the aesthetics, I'd highly recommend this," Burgess says.

Maybe you’re looking for something a little more timeless. Consider this leather bag from Tecovas, which is perfect for holding things like your electric toothbrush , razor , and other small essentials.

Tried and true Dopp kits

How long I’ve been using it : Three months

Why I like it: I have been using a neoprene Dopp kit for a few years because the material is water resistant and stretches easily to fit all your products. My new one from Dagne Dover has a large main compartment for products and includes two smaller pouches that are easily removable to take back and forth to the bathroom (instead of the whole bag) or to pull out quickly for a security check at the airport. The top zipper also snaps down or expands depending on how much you pack, making the bag smaller or larger as needed.

What you’ll always find inside: I always pack the Aesop Parsley Seed facial cleanser ,  Malin & Goetz Sage styling cream , and the Marianella The Royal Kalahari face serum .

Used by: Raymond Kim, co-founder of  Iota

How long I’ve been using it:  20 years

Why I like it:  This is an insanely durable product. I got it as a gift when I started traveling a lot for one of my first jobs out of school, so it’s definitely gone on at least a few hundred trips all over the world with me at this point—everywhere from Africa to Alaska . I haven’t exactly been gentle with it, but it still pretty much looks like new. It’s not the fanciest bag, and it’s pretty industrial in design, but the ballistic nylon material it’s made out of is the real deal. It dries out really quickly when stuff inside spills out, and as an added bonus, it has an antimicrobial lining inside so your products don't become moldy or smell. The thought of getting a new bag hasn’t even ever crossed my mind—I feel like I could go another 20 years with this bag.

What you’ll always find inside:  The bag has a great see-through mesh pocket on the inside of the flap where I always make sure to bring an extra pair of contact lenses every time I go away. You’ll also always find my  Dr. Grandel facial foam cleanser , because it’s really great at not stripping my face of moisture; my Iota Superplant body serum which is a super-healthy body moisturizer that isn’t as heavy-feeling as most lotions (that is essential for me otherwise my skin gets itchy); and my  Aesop Moroccan Neroli post-shave lotion which has a really nice scent and calms my face after shaving.

Used by: Quin Lewis,  fashion consultant

How long I’ve been using it:  About 15 years

Why you like it: Although I have four to five other Louis Vuitton Dopp kits, this one is my favorite because it’s the oldest and has so much character—most notably the beautiful patina that has formed on the Vachetta leather. It’s also slightly smaller than the others and therefore forces me to edit items down to only the essentials. And you can never go wrong with LV’s classic monogram. It’s elegant and timeless.

What you’ll always find inside:  When I’m traveling, I like to maintain a simple yet effective skincare routine.  La Mer Cleansing Foam ,  Creme de La Mer Moisturizer , and  La Mer Eye Concentrate always help get the job done.

Editor’s note: At the time of publication, this bag is out of stock. Similar styles available at Louis Vuitton include the   Dopp kit toilet pouch and the   Nice Mini toiletry pouch .

Used by: Mickey Ashmore, founder of  Sabah

mens travel kit toiletries

How long I’ve been using it:  Three years

Why I like it:  After a couple years of just using a Sabah shoe bag (a cotton drawstring bag) as my go-to Dopp kit, I finally splurged and bought a heavy-duty one from one of my favorite leather goods makers. It’s a great size, and more importantly, it tells the stories of my travels: The natural tan leather has gotten more beautiful and weathered with use. Patina, we call it in the leather biz.

What you’ll find inside:   Lesse face oil and  Urban Moonshine Immune Tonic —I take a bit of this everyday to keep the immune system up!

Used by: Donae Burston, founder and ceo of  La Fête Wine Company

mens travel kit toiletries

How long I’ve been using it: Five years

Why I like it: I love it for its craftsmanship and design: striking yet very minimalist. It’s also extremely convenient. I'm able to take everything necessary for a full day of back-to-back meetings in Paris or St. Tropez without feeling weighed down. Its versatility allows me to store any items from skincare and toiletries that help keep me looking refreshed throughout meetings to vital documents such as passport or wallet.

What you’ll always find inside:  I always travel with the Luzern Laboratories Serum Absolut V15 ,  Bevel 2-1 pomade for my hair , and Crest 3D white toothpaste .

Used by: Bernard Antolin, co-founder of  System

mens travel kit toiletries

How long I’ve been using it:  Eight years

Why I like it:  As organized as I think I am, I always used to find myself dumping my pocket contents throughout a hotel room. The valet tray makes it super easy to leave everything in one place and the removable design has been super handy—as I like to keep my essentials next to my phone while it charges on the nightstand.

What you’ll find inside:  Inside I keep a travel-size Corpus deodorant ,  Muji atomizer , and the Baxter Styling Paste .

Used by: Chris Galasso, co-founder of  Tombolo

mens travel kit toiletries

How long I’ve been using it: Four years

Why I like it: It's lightweight, indestructible, and made from used sails. Most importantly, it makes me feel like a rugged sailor even during vulnerable moments just before I apply face moisturizer.

What you’ll always find inside:   Jackfir moisturizer (a good friend Charlie started this men's skincare line as a simple, toxin free option after navigating 3.5 years of leukemia treatment),  Claus Porto Spiced Citrus Cologne (smells exceptionally good and doesn't break the bank), and Immodium (for emergencies only).

Used by: Rishi Ravalia, general manager at  NON

How long I’ve been using it: About two years

Why I like it: I often don't check a bag when I travel, so having a transparent Dopp kit means I can get it through security easily.  I love the two compartments: the wet side and the dry side. And the full zip-around makes it easy to get what I need quickly.

What you’ll always find inside:   Le Labo The Noir 29 ,  the Burly Crème , and floss —I can't emphasize enough how important it is to floss!

Used by: Woldy Reyes,  chef

How long I’ve been using it: I’ve had this wash bag for a few years now.

Why I like it: The best thing about this wash bag is Rains’ signature waterproof fabric—it’s durable and therefore offers me peace of mind that all my stuff will be protected, dry, and leak-free. Plus, I’m intentional about my style choices—especially when I’m traveling—and the minimalist design of this bag complements how I typically dress.

What you’ll always find inside: Every morning wherever I am, I take a drop full of  Herb Pharm’s oregano spirits to build immunity. The  moisture renew cream from January Labs helps keep my face hydrated and glowy.

The Dopp Kit I use:  Louis Vuitton Hanging Toiletry Kit

How long I’ve been using it: Approximately 5 years

Why I like it:   I absolutely love the Louis Vuitton hanging toiletry kit. My partner gifted it to me as a wedding present, and it’s traveled with me around the world and is still holding up. It features a durable canvas coated finish that's easy to clean with plenty of space for toiletries. There’s also an easily accessible mesh pocket perfect for storing your toothbrush and toothpaste. The best part of this Dopp kit is the sleek metal hook that folds out so you can hang it from a towel bar or a hook, which is perfect for when you have no counter space. Once you’re ready to pack up for your next destination, the cover folds over and locks securely by a magnetic closure.

What you’ll always find inside:   Kiehl’s Ultra facial cleanser ,  Lesse Ritual serum , and the Aesop Parsley Seed Anti-Oxidant Eye Cream .

Editor’s note : Louis Vuitton discontinued this product, but these two alternatives have a similar useful hook, too:   Shinola Organized Travel Kit and   Bric’s Tri-Fold Traveler (pictured) .

The Dopp Kit I use:   Muji's TPU Clear Case with gusset

How long I've been using it: Two years

Why I like it: A few years ago, on a flight out of Paris' Orly airport, security made me move everything that was in my overstuffed leather Dopp kit into one Ziploc bag. I had to tearfully give up the items I couldn't squeeze in there. Since then, I've been on the hunt  for a clear plastic wash bag. This one from Muji is inexpensive and compact, freeing up my carry-on for another pair of loafers.

What you’ll find inside:   Farmacy Whipped Greens cleanser,  Bask SPF 30 Lotion , and I don’t leave the house without  Muji’s Refreshing Body Wipes .

Editor’s note: At the time of publication, this case is out of stock. But Tom Binh’s   Clear 3D Organizer Cube (pictured) is a nice alternative—still compact, still clear.

More men's toiletry bags we recommend

mens travel kit toiletries

This simple, unstructured toiletry kit is perfect for an unfussy traveler who’s cramming as much into their carry-on or backpack as possible. The soft shell allows it to be smushed into any crevice available without taking up too much room. It closes with a waterproof zipper, so anything that does spill or gets punctured in transit is at least safe within the bag and not all over your clothes.

mens travel kit toiletries

Don’t let the worn leather look fool you, this Dopp kit is as sturdy as soft shell cases get. For any fragile grooming essentials kept inside, like cologne bottles or razor blades, this case’s thick leather outer keeps it all in form. There are also inner zip pockets for errant small items.

mens travel kit toiletries

For the traveler who needs absolute security (and plenty of space) for his toiletries, this case is big, roomy, and has a hard shell to keep any tube of cream or salve in place without getting crushed in transit. Measuring in at 11 inches by 8 inches by 8.5 inches, it takes up a solid block of space in one’s luggage (we'd stash it in a checked bag), but offers that much more protection for the things that are truly essential upon arrival. You can also customize it with an initial for a small fee.

This hanging toiletry bag from L.L.Bean foregoes the prime real estate of the bathroom countertop and instead opts to make the most of vertical storage space. Hang this on the back of the bathroom door to fully lay out everything you might need without having to root around. When you’re ready to go back home, just fold it closed and zip it back up.

There are a few things every traveler needs, no matter where in the world they're going — and a toiletry bag is one of them. The humble case might be an afterthought to some, but these helpful bags are crucial to keeping your travel essentials organized.

We tested 52 toiletry bags and cosmetic cases (and continue to do so for a period of at least six months) in order to bring to you the best of the best, evaluating capacity, design, portability, and value. We also considered the overall quality of the bags, as well as their ease of use on real trips.

Taking our test results into consideration, we've put together a list of the best toiletry bags across various categories; you’re sure to find one that suits your needs.

Best Overall

Away large toiletry bag.

  • Capacity 5 /5
  • Design 5 /5
  • Portability 5 /5

This bag holds more than you'd expect from just looking at it.

The limited edition colors often sell out fast.

You might be most familiar with Away for its selection of hardside luggage and weekender bags, but the brand carries travel accessories, too, including this large toiletry bag that earned high marks across the board during our tests.

Though we found the bag to be even roomier than expected, there are so many individual compartments including a clear cosmetic bag, a zippered pouch, two mesh linings, and an exterior pocket, to name a few. You won't be reaching into a bottomless pit, rummaging around for individual products here. We also love that the bag zips open wide enough for you to reach inside with ease. We packed it with both large and small items, from travel-size liquid bottles to makeup brushes, and there was still room for more.

We also noted the durability of the water-resistant nylon, which is lightweight without feeling cheap. The interior of the bag is coated with an easy-to-wipe material, allowing you to clean up any spills quickly. The bag comes in five color options (with limited edition colorways offered on occasion), as well as a smaller size option and a hanging version of the bag.

Best Compact

Dagne dover mila toiletry organizer.

Dagne Dover

  • Capacity 4 /5

It might be small, but it can still fit full-size makeup brushes.

The dividers take up valuable space.

If you're a toiletry minimalist, this is the case for you. The highly compact Dagne Dover Mila keeps all your products neat and organized in a tiny, plush drum made of water-resistant recycled poly. Unzip the lid and you'll see a grid created by a removable insert — use the insert to keep your products separated from one another, reducing their impact if the toiletry bag is jumbled around. There's also a zippered mesh pocket in the lid, as well as four elastic loops to hold items like makeup brushes and lip balm.

We did notice, however, that the insert takes up quite a bit of space in the bag, and you'd be able to squeeze quite a few more items inside if you remove it instead. Of course in that case, you wouldn't have much help in terms of organization. Ultimately, we love the flexibility — you can customize the bag to suit your needs.

The Details: 5.5 x 5.5 x 5.5 inches | 6 ounces | Material | Recycled poly

Best Waterproof

Matador flatpak zipper toiletry case.

Back Country

  • Design 4 /5

It's extremely lightweight — just over an ounce.

There aren't any extra pockets or pouches for organization.

While many toiletry kits are water-resistant, this one is fully waterproof, and that makes all the difference if you're on an outdoor adventure like camping or a multi-day kayaking trip. It's made from a special nylon that has a secret superpower: "dry-through" technology, which allows moisture to escape from the bag without letting any in. That means your toiletries (like a wet toothbrush) can dry while they're in the bag.

We found this bag to be deceptively spacious, given that it looks like a simple pencil pouch at first glance. The bag expands at the bottom, allowing it to stand alone on a flat surface while giving you the space to fit larger items in with ease. That said, there aren't any useful organizational tools to keep your products in order — this is a fairly bare-bones bag.

The Details: 9.5 x 6.75 x 3.5 inches | 1.1 ounces | Nylon | Waterproof

Best Organization

Peak design wash pouch.

Peak Design

The bag is lined with high-density foam for extra protection.

It's a fairly pricey bag.

When you have a large number of toiletries to bring with you on vacation, the best thing you can do is choose a toiletry bag that helps you keep everything organized. This is that bag! Though it appears small from the outside, the bag is so thoughtfully designed with organizational tools — we found that there's a pocket for just about everything. The main compartment is large enough to fit small bottles, while mesh pockets of various sizes line the walls. There's also a separate pocket for your toothbrush, which keeps it nice and clean.

Other highlights include a wide opening to access each pocket easily, and the ability to stand on its own thanks to the bag's layer of high-density foam that also helps protect the items inside. It also has a handy hanging hook if you'd prefer to keep some counter space clear.

The Details: 10.2 x 6 x 4.4 inches | 8.7 ounces | Nylon

Best Dopp Kit

Dare to roam steward dopp kit.

Dare to Roam

The material is antimicrobial and antibacterial.

Organization is limited to three pockets.

What are dopp kits, anyway? Though the term can be used interchangeably with "toiletry bag" today, the dopp kit was originally a durable toiletry bag devised by German leather maker Charles Doppelt that was popular with military personnel in the 20th century. It typically takes the silhouette seen here in this bag — a large main compartment, sometimes with side pockets.

What dopp kits are great for is space; we were amazed by how much could fit in this bag, especially because it's expandable with side clips and adjustable webbing straps. As such, it's ideal for longer trips where you'll need as much space as you can get. We also love that it's made from an antimicrobial and antibacterial nylon (yes, it's water-resistant), though we think it could use a little more organization beyond two interior pockets and one exterior one.

The Details: 4.5 x 8.7 x 4.7 inches | Polyester | Water-resistant

Best Small Hanging

Sea to summit hanging toiletry bag.

Small and lightweight, it's perfectly portable.

It has to hang as it won't stand up on its own.

When it comes to hanging bags, this one is perfectly balanced. It's made from an ultra-thin, water-resistant nylon and takes the shape of a saddlebag, which is ideal for hanging. We found that no matter how many items we stuffed in there, the bag never really felt weighed down; all the products were perfectly situated and easy to access, thanks to a plethora of pockets.

This bag also comes with a detachable mirror, which makes it great for outdoor adventures when you don't have access to a vanity, as well as handles for easy transport. Ultimately, it is perfect for people limited on space and weight, whether they're on a multi-day trek that requires them to carry all their gear or traveling for an extended period of time with limited storage space. The toiletry bag comes in two sizes (we tested the smaller one) and four color options.

The Details: 10.2 x 3.9 x 8.9 inches | 0.3 ounces | Nylon | Water-resistant

Best Large Hanging

Bagsmart hanging toiletry bag.

This is an excellent value if you need to store full-size items.

The material is difficult to clean.

Bagsmart is known for making convenient travel products at affordable prices, and that's certainly true of its hanging toiletry bag. Before it's opened, the bag looks just like a little quilted briefcase; inside is an extraordinary amount of storage. Unzip the perimeter and the bag unfurls into four panels of hanging storage for your toiletries, which we found perfectly capable of storing just about every toiletry in the book save for full-size bottles of shampoo and body wash. While most of the storage compartments are variously sized zippered pockets, some actually have elastic bands to help hold your items in place.

The quilted material is made of polyester, which we found to be a little difficult to clean. It is water-resistant, though, and the texture adds a nice visual quality. Plus, it comes in ten colorways.

The Details: 12.6 x 9.1 x 4.3 inches | 15.2 ounces | Polyester | Water-resistant

Best for Cosmetics

Béis the cosmetic case.

The brush holder and mirror are removable.

The main compartment is pretty much just one big open space.

The clean, minimalist design that Béis is so loved for comes through in its cosmetic case: a sturdy bag with plenty of space for makeup aficionados. For starters, it's offered in eight elegant earth tone hues. But then there's the simple rectangular shape, which feels almost handbag-like in its sculptural form, as well as luxe hardware that adds to that handbag quality.

Though this bag can carry all types of toiletries, it's specifically designed with cosmetics in mind. That's evident from the removable mirror and brush holder, which has PVC material where the brush heads will go for easy cleaning. There are also a few slip pockets, which we found especially helpful for palettes. One thing to note, however, is that the main compartment of this toiletry bag is simply a vast space without any dividers to organize individual products. That said, we can report that nothing broke or spilled during evaluations.

The Details: 9.5 x 4 x 7 inches | 1.38 pounds | Polyester | Water-resistant

Best for Men

Bagsmart toiletry bag for men.

It opens wide with a double zipper.

It's made of canvas, which may be hard to clean but is water-resistant.

Fun fact: dopp kits were originally designed for men so it makes perfect sense why this one is designed to fit shaving and grooming products in particular. It's made of canvas for a rough-and-tumble look, and it's offered in seven colors (mostly neutrals, but also light pink) and two sizes. Though we consider it sturdy enough to stand on its own, we also found it flexible enough to be stuffed into a packed weekender.

As for storage capabilities, there's a main compartment that's accessible via a double zipper, which means the kit opens nice and wide for you to be able to access your items. That main compartment can fit bulkier items, while smaller items can fill the pockets along the sides. There are also two separate side pockets, one of which is designed to hold wet items.

The Details: 10.2 x 5.9 x 6.3 inches | 6.4 ounces | Canvas | Water-resistant

Best for Short Trips

Tumi response travel kit.

It opens like a clamshell.

It's not water-resistant.

Luxury brand Tumi doesn't only make high-end suitcases and travel bags — they also make high-end toiletry bags. Made from ballistic nylon (and offered in three colorways), this is one of the most durable toiletry bags out there, and it wouldn't be surprising if this bag lasted years, even with regular use.

Its best feature is the fact that it opens like a clamshell, with two distinct compartments in each half. That makes it easy to access everything in the bag, whether you're laying it flat on a countertop or you're hanging it via the attached hook. There are four pockets, including one water-resistant one, and two elastic loops to hold products like toothbrushes or razors. We think it’s a reasonably spacious bag, but only for travel-size products — that's why we recommend it for short trips rather than long ones.

The Details: 6.3 x 9.5 x 3.5 inches | 0.9 pounds | Ballistic nylon

Best Leather

Cuyana travel beauty case.

  • Portability 4.5 /5
  • Value 4.5 /5

This is a true luxury item with exquisite craftsmanship.

More care will need to be taken so spills don’t damage the leather.

Take one look at the Cuyana Travel Beauty Case, and it's clear that you're dealing with a luxury item. Made from Italian pebbled leather, this toiletry bag is extremely elegant in each of its three colors: ecru, soft rose, and black. We found that this is high-quality leather that's not so delicate you have to worry about damaging it when stuffing it in your backpack or weekender.

As for storage, there are two main compartments: one with an internal elastic pocket for storing larger items and another that has elastic straps to hold items like makeup brushes in place. They open like a clamshell, and between them is a detachable pouch for smaller items. The pouch is ideal for a few items that can be used to refresh your makeup on a travel day, but it can't hold enough products for a full face.

The Details: 6.2 x 10.2 x 3.1 inches | 1.6 pounds | Italian pebbled leather

MZ Wallace Mica Cosmetic Case

It's a no-nonsense bag — simply stash your stuff and go.

There's only one main compartment with a smaller zippered pocket.

The best thing about a pouch like this one is that it's very straightforward — all you have to do is toss in your items without giving much thought to organization. We loved this particular toiletry bag because it's more spacious than it seems at first glance. That's particularly true of the one zippered pocket inside: it was able to hold seven makeup brushes.

By the same token, the lack of organization might be frustrating to some. Depending on your preference, you might wish there were a few dividers or additional pockets to keep things a little tidier inside the bag. Still, the amount of space it has for items is impressive, and for some travelers, that might be just what they're looking for.

The Details: 9.49 x 4.02 x 5.98 inches | 0.23 pounds | REC Oxford

Best Budget

Wandf toiletry bag.

  • Portability 4 /5

It comes in nearly 20 colors.

The main compartment only has one zipper, which makes it a little tough to retrieve items.

As you're probably well aware by this point, toiletry bags can get quite expensive — but they don't have to be. This is a particularly budget-friendly model, yet it accomplishes just about everything you'd need a toiletry bag to do. For one, it has multiple compartments. And for another, it's a water-resistant case, which means it can handle being splashed on a bathroom counter.

The compartments are both the success and the downfall of this toiletry bag. We were beyond impressed with the amount of space inside the main compartment, as well as with the two side compartments with mesh pockets. But we found that the main compartment was almost too spacious and could benefit from another divider of some kind. Given its size, it could also benefit from a double zipper opening, which would allow you to access more items throughout the bag than the existing single zipper.

The Details: 10.24 x 4.72 x 5.91 inches | 3.53 ounces | Nylon | Water-resistant

Other Toiletry Bags We Liked

  • Dagne Dover Hunter Neoprene Toiletry Bag : We love the soft, water-resistant neoprene material of this bag, as well as the two detached pouches for easy organization. (And did we mention the colors? Those are beautiful, too!) Unfortunately, we found it to be a tight fit to squeeze both of the detachable pouches into the main bag when all three had items in them.
  • State Bags Bensen Dopp Kit : This is a spacious bag with a detachable pouch for additional storage — there's not much to not like here. But we think it's a bit too expensive, and we found the hook to be too small to use in many cases. Because it's so spacious, it's best for longer trips, as we think it might take up a bit too much room in a carry-on bag.
  • L.L.Bean Personal Organizer Toiletry Bag, Medium : A favorite for decades, this bag is the king when it comes to storage space and organization — there are pockets for just about everything. Some might find the sheer number of storage spaces to be overwhelming. But others, particularly those going on long trips or families who might be sharing a toiletry bag, will love the roominess.
  • Baggu Dopp Kit : This bag packs flat, which is great when you need to store it somewhere. But when you expand it, you'll find that it's large enough to carry all of your toiletries and then some. The only thing we worried about was the durability of the materials. Though it did not fail any of our rigorous tests, we suspect it may wear out over time.

We tested 52 toiletry bags and cosmetics cases in our lab to determine the best products.

Testing started with an analysis of the bag when it was empty; we examined the materials, the construction, and the overall design.

Then we packed the bags with common travel essentials like toiletry bottles, makeup, and dental products, among other items. We then re-evaluated the design of the bag, noting overall capacity; convenience and security of organizational compartments, pockets, and pouches; closure functionality (such as zippers, magnetic clasps, and Velcro tabs); and overall sturdiness and stability of the bag.

Next, we put the bags into weekenders, carry-on luggage, and backpacks to see how they'd fit. We also carried around the larger bags to evaluate the feel of the toiletry bags in them.

Finally, we rated each toiletry bag on its capacity, design, portability, and value, all the while considering extra characteristics like the material's water-resistance, ease of cleaning, and any extra features, such as hanging straps or built-in mirrors.

Testing of the toiletry kits then continues for a period of six months on our real-world trips, and we will continue to update this article based on the results.

When the bag was fully packed, we placed it inside a large weekender bag to get a sense of its weight by carrying it around our lab. We also checked how much space the bag took up inside the weekender bag to determine if there was ample room to store other items, such as clothing and accessories. We then determined whether the bag would be suitable for weekend trips and/or longer vacations.

After rating for all attributes, we checked each bag's price to rate the overall value.

Tips for Buying a Toiletry Bag

Look at the design of the bag.

Some toiletry bags are voids — they have one cavernous space to fit all your items. But others are separated into compartments with pockets and pouches to keep your items in place. Depending on what you're storing in your toiletry bag, you might prefer more organizational tools than a single open space. Also consider the material; more durable, water-resistant materials are ideal for toiletry bags, since they'll be getting quite a bit of use on the road.

Consider capacity and the items you pack

What do you plan on putting in a toiletry bag? If you're a minimalist who carries very few toiletries — say, just face wash and toothpaste — you might only need a small case But if you have an extensive skincare routine — including sunscreen and after-sun lotion — and you travel with all your makeup, you'll need a bag with enough space for everything.

Think about portability

If you plan on taking your toiletry bag in your carry-on, you'll want it to be as compact and lightweight as possible to save room for everything else in your bag. And if you're packing liquids, gels, or aerosols, make sure your items’ sizes comply with the TSA's 3-1-1 rule . If you're checking your toiletry bag, though, you might have more flexibility with size and weight.

While a clear bag is not explicitly stated on all sections of the TSA website , this is the common practice and can speed things up at the security checkpoint. Toiletry bags that don't hold any liquids, as well as toiletry bags that will be checked in your suitcase (regardless of their contents), do not need to be clear.

Since toiletry bags frequently come into contact with liquids — either from leaking products or from the bathroom counter — water-resistant or waterproof materials are best. Another factor to consider is durability. Toiletry bags are typically fairly heavily used when you travel, so it's best to look for tear-proof fabric that will hold up over time.

A TSA-approved toiletry bag is one that meets the TSA's requirements for the 3-1-1 rule regarding liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes packed in carry-ons. These products must be 3.4 ounces or 100 milliliters or less, and they all must fit in " 1 quart size, clear, plastic, zip top bag ."

You can pack just about anything in a toiletry bag, from hair products to body washes to makeup. Depending on what you plan on putting in your toiletry bag, you may want to look for ones with special pockets — many toiletry bags have designated spots for items like makeup brushes or palettes to keep them secure.

The Best Men's Toiletry Bags to Toss in Your Carry-On

21 Best Men's Toiletry Bags Dopp Kits 2023 Fellas It's Time to Toss That Flimsy Ziploc

You probably have a toiletry bag. But do you have the best men's toiletry bag? Just how satisfied are you with your Dopp's… performance ? If your answer to that question was anything less than “extremely”, you should be in the market for a top-tier Dopp kit.

Whether you're heading out for a quick weekend or a longer soul-searching sabbatical, a Dopp that ably transports all of your grooming products can be a game-changer. Not only will it allow you to organize said products, and separate them from the clothes they could ruin with one loose cap, but it also looks a lot more grown up than a gallon-sized Ziploc bag. Think about it: You wouldn't shove the contents of your carry-on into one of those plastic IKEA bags and board a plane, would you? On a smaller scale, that's essentially the Ziploc-as-toiletry-bag move.

The Best Toiletry Bags Shopping Guide

  • The All-Around Best Toiletry Bag: Mismo M/S wash bag , $269
  • The Best Basic Toiletry Bag: Rains wash bag , $34
  • The Best Hanging Toiletry Bag: Calpak "Terra" hanging toiletry bag , $56
  • The Best Leather Toiletry Bag: Bottega Veneta "Intrecciato" color-block leather wash bag , $1515
  • The Best Splurge-Worthy Toiletry Bag: Goyard "Jouvence MM" toiletry bag , price on request

The most basic Dopp kit is just a big internal pocket with some sort of closure, but there are several different varieties differentiated by shape, material, number of extra pockets, and miscellaneous bonus features. At bare minimum though, a high-quality Dopp kit should have plenty of space (enough to fit several travel-size containers and grooming essentials like a toothbrush and a shaving kit ). It should also be easy to clean (spills happen!) and water-resistant, come with a good zipper, and pass the “would I be embarrassed if someone saw this out on my counter?” test.

The following toiletry bags and Dopp kits are a few offerings from our favorite brands that our writers have coveted, purchased, and used on trips far and wide. After neatly packing them in suitcases or tossing them in the bottom of backpacks, we can guarantee that at least one of them is certainly the best men's toiletry bag for you. Oh, and once you've got your Dopp, be sure to pack it smartly .

The All-Around Best Toiletry Bag

mens travel kit toiletries

M/S washbag

Mismo's washbag features a ballistic nylon exterior kitted out with a water-resistant cotton lining and a sturdy zipper to ensure your grooming goods stay nice and dry wherever you're headed. The roomy interior is great for stashing your apothecary of skin care hacks without adding unnecessary bulk—slit pockets at both sides give you the option to stow necessary one-offs like razors and combs, while elegant snap-hook closures sourced from Italy open up to give you additional space, and fold down for instant handles. Franky speaking, though, its top-notch design doesn't need all those bells and whistles to prove that it's in a league of its own.

Plus 4 More Multi-Purpose Dopps We Love

The Renew transit catch-all bag

mens travel kit toiletries

Tin cloth travel kit

Everlane's transit catch-all does exactly that—neatly stows your grooming essentials, keys, tech and whatever else you throw in it without taking up too much space. Ditto Filson's tough-as-nails tin cloth kit (reinforced with water-resistant nylon), which repurposes the brand's word-class waxed cotton in the form of a lightweight, extremely functional Dopp.

mens travel kit toiletries

Dagne Dover

"Hunter" neoprene toiletry bag

Air's Cordura nylon-ified travel kit takes organization extremely seriously, with two separate roomy interiors for your bottles and tubes plus additional zipper compartments at the front and back. Dagne Dover's “Hunter” bag is the gift that keeps on giving—its interior is decked out with elastic loops, a mesh slip pocket, and an additional z ippered pouch you can remove when you're not using it. If you aren't able to fit everything you need into one of these, you, friend, might be overpacking.

The Best Basic Toiletry Bag

mens travel kit toiletries

This waterproof pack from Rains features a single interior pocket making it perfect for weekend excursions that require you to preserve as much packing space as possible, or those last-minute trips where non-essentials like condition and body lotion are likely to be provided. With its no-frills, versatile exterior this bag can be repurposed to hold all you gizmos and gadgets for those days when the commutes are looking less than sunny. The last thing you need is your AirPods getting soaked before an onslaught of Zooms.

"Black Hole" cube

Made from a tough, water-resistant fabric, Lululemon's bag will make sure your hodgpodge of tech and toiletries doesn't get soaked in a sporadic April shower. But if you're planning to brave the great outdoors, you might want to opt for Patagonia's cylindrical number, which is made from the brand's legendary ripstop nylon and features an internal pocket to keep your stuff from rolling around at every twist and turn.

Acne Studios

Topo Designs

Maybe you just watched 2001: A Space Odyssey for the first time or you're just really into grids—either way, this waterproof Acne clutch is as timeless as a Kubrick classic. If you're working with some funky packing quarters, Topo Designs' triangular dopp kit takes the guesswork out of finding the right arrangement of bags so you can focus on actually, you know, packing your stuff.

The Best Hanging Toiletry Bag

mens travel kit toiletries

"Terra" hanging toiletry bag

If you want sprawling access to your bathroom in a matter of seconds, then you'll want to get pair up with Calpak's Terra bag. Built from a wonderfully tough ripstop blend (reinforced with waterproof coating that also gives it a little extra sparkle), this toiletry bag is packed with pockets—zipper mesh pockets for your comb and contacts, pockets for face wash, body wash, deodorant—and elastic loops in the interior and exterior so you can avoid the soggy toothbrush dilemma. It, of course, features a collapsable hook so you can hang up your goods for easy access and tuck away when it's time to hit the road again.

Sea to Summit

TravellingLight hanging toiletry bag

Just because it's functional doesn't mean it has to be gorp-ified, as Mark & Graham's generously compartmentalized toiletry bag proves by swapping out the popular nylon for a buttery soft leather. If you could care less about scoring style points and are looking to pack it in while keeping your load a comfortable weight, then Sea to Summit's bag is a worthy pick.

Large toiletry bag 2.0

Sometimes, of course, you really do need to pack a load . In that instance, make sure you're not adding any unnecessary bulk without compromising storage with Narways streamlined toiletry bag that features side pockets that open out to reveal a rows of elastic loops that can hold it all. Nomatic's 10" toiletry bag is also a great contender for bringing everything but the bathroom sink, while miraculously saving you space thanks to a slender profile.

The Best Leather Toiletry Bag

mens travel kit toiletries

Frank Clegg

Large travel kit

Made to order in their Massachusetts workshop, Frank Clegg's deceptively handsome travel kit may look too pretty to throw in a carry-on, but it's well equipped to handle whatever the travel gods throw its way. The tumble grain leather is lined with water-resistant acrylic fabric so you don't have to worry about unsightly leaks and patches, while the rust-proof brass hardware will keep your zippers in peak condition no matter how steamy the bathroom conditions.

Columbian leather toiletry bag

From bags to slides , Bottega Veneta's woven motif proves yet again how versatile it is, this time in a lather wash bag that's fashionable without being obnoxious. Royce's smooth, Columbian leather bag opens up to a spacious interior that can hold all the essentials and more while zipping down for a compact fit.

Leather dopp kit

Nisolo, the brand behind our favorite rich-guy sandals , also makes a mean dopp kit. While this bag is a mix of waxed canvas and leather, it maintains the leather aesthetic while improving the kits weather-resistance performance. Another great contender is Double RL's burnished leather dopp kit that manages to look charmingly rustic—without getting into rusty territory.

The Best Splurge-Worthy Toiletry Bag

mens travel kit toiletries

"Jouvence MM" toiletry bag

A IYKYK brand that's become mainstream as more people have gotten hip, Goyard doesn't need to prove itself in the travel department. The Parisian brand has been churning out stylish trunks and fine leather goods since 1792, and its attention to detail is what continues to set it above the rest 200 years later. Naturally, its toiletry bag is top-notch with a supple leather exterior that's lined with cotton to absorb any little spills and excess moisture that's throw its way. The upright design will also keep your bottles from running amok while allowing for compact packing experience. If you're going to splurge, skip the gimmicks and invest in a piece that's proven its ROI consistently.

Six essential travel toiletries for fresh-faced jet setting

By Robert Leedham

Image may contain Bottle Cosmetics Text and Label

We’ve all suffered that last-minute scramble at the airport. Sure, you packed your passport, power adaptors and a hefty wad of foreign currency just waiting to be spent on overpriced cocktails, but what about your travel toiletries? Worse still, you have might have been one of those unfortunate souls who has made it all the way up to airport security only to realise your suitcase is stuffed full of creams, gels and fragrances that breach the all-important 100ml limit that's still in effect. If you’re reading this right now, we’re going to assume you’ve been smart enough to prep in advance for your holidays with a suite of travel-size grooming essentials. Because Lord knows that mid-sized Boots on the way to the departure gate won’t do much to help your cause.

Thankfully for both the impeccably organised and those who’ve previously tried to stuff their entire bathroom cabinet into a tiny see-through plastic bag, plenty of major grooming brands will happily cater to your holiday needs. From sun creams and body washes to moisturisers and toothpaste , we’ve found the tiny versions of our bathroom favourites. The best part of incorporating these into your carry-on? Because these products are smaller than their usual form, you can use your travels to try out something new and bougie. Because hey, you deserve to look your best in those poolside photos.

Nivea Sun Protect & Moisture To Go SPF30

mens travel kit toiletries

Aesop Protective Lip Balm SPF30

Look, if you plan on spending a week soaking up the sun’s rays then you don’t need us to tell you the benefits of investing in a decent SPF. Not least because sunscreen is the one thing that’ll separate the colour of your tan from Liverpool FC red to Greek godly bronze. While you can trust in the ever-reliable properties of Nivea’s Sun Protect & Moisture To Go , we’d recommend something a little more luxe for those prepping for their beach-lounging in advance. Malin + Goetz’s SPF30 cream will protect skin while avoiding the typical pitfalls of blocked pores and an unseemly greasy residue. Pair it with Aesop’s Protective Lip Balm to truly do your body a kindness.

Malin + Goetz Face Essentials Duo

A good moisturiser is the foundation of any man’s grooming arsenal, but there’s a decent chance you might not want to take the truly luxe stuff with you in your wash bag . Thankfully, Kiehl’s Facial Fuel is an old reliable for many a GQ staffer with its vitamin and caffeine enriched formula that’s suitable for all skin types thanks to its non-oily properties. Given the sheer hype behind The Ordinary’s wares in the past year or so – blame TikTok's skincare influencers for that one – we’re delighted to see its own Natural Moisturising Factors is available in 30ml form for an absolute steal. And if you’re in need of a moisturiser and cleanser combo? Malin + Goetz’s Face Essentials Duo kit has your back (or indeed face).

3. A revitalising body wash

Aesop Geranium Leaf Hydrating Body Treatment

Look, no one loves to hoard hotel-quality toiletries as much as us, but sometimes you simply want to take your at-home shower routine on holiday with you. Worse still, you might have unwittingly booked into a place that’ll only serve you body wash out of a giant pump. Fear not dear reader, the Cowshed’s Travel Set comes with the shower gel, shampoo and conditioner (as well as a delightful body lotion) to see you through such dark days. For those who want to spread their wings beyond a toiletry kit, we’d recommend both a Kiehl’s Face Wash and Aesop Geranium Leaf Hydrating Body Treatment as foundational tools in your morning battle against jetlag.

4. A one-stop shaving kit

Acqua di Parma Barbiere Essential Shaving Kit

Harry's Travel Bundle Shave Set

While it’s eminently possible to stow away your beard trimmer or electric shaver in your toiletry bag, nothing really beats the feeling of a baby-smooth holiday shave. For exactly that fresh-faced vibe, you can’t really say fairer than Gilette’s Travel Set , which comes with a razor and shaving gel, as well as a toothbrush, toothpaste and a few other essentials. If your travels call for something a little more refined, then Acqua di Parma’s Essential Shaving Kit will happily step up to the plate, while Harry’s Travel Bundle Shave Set serves up an accomplished middle-ground between the two.

Le Labo Santal 33 Eau de Parfum

Jo Malone London Poppy and Barley cologne

It’s worth taking the chance to reinvent your signature scent when jet setting off somewhere sunnier, or at the very least you should use your getaway as a means to expand the horizons of your eau de parfum repertoire. Tom Ford’s Private Blend is a prime example of such a decadent opportunity with its woody oud blend proving a perfectly sensual companion for after-hours stumbling around cobbled streets and dimly lit bars. For a similarly masculine fragrance that’ll see you through the morning after, Le Labo’s Santal 33 is a fresh and stimulating delight with notes of cardamom, iris and violet. As for Jo Malone London’s Poppy and Barley cologne ? It’s been elegantly crafted so that you can take a taste of Blighty with you as you explore warmer climes.

Let’s face it, holiday prep can be stressful enough without you having to itemise the contents of your travel toiletry bag. That’s why several of the most-lauded men’s grooming brands have done the decent thing and shrunk their finest wares into one devilishly handsome package. Our pick of the bunch? Aesop’s Departure Kit , which is absolutely stuffed full of its best-loved products including the Blue Chamomile Facial Hydrating masque, Immediate Moisture Facial Hydrosol, mouthwash and toothpaste. For those who intend to spend more time in the bathtub than under a parasol, Molton Brown’s The Daring Adventurer Mini Travel Bag really is an essential purchase. Frequently Asked Questions

What is a dopp kit.

A dopp kit is a travel bag designed to hold toiletries and is generally made from leather or cloth materials. The term dopp kit is used in America to refer to a travel toiletry set.

How do men pack toiletries for travel?

The easiest way to pack toiletries for travel is to have a travel kit on hand that is packed and ready to go. Fill the kit with TSA-friendly products that suit your grooming needs.

Building a travel toiletry bag takes a few steps. First, consider your morning and evening grooming routine. Write down any items you use and then add them to your travel kit.

Here are the standard grooming products most guys use:

  • Shampoo and conditioner
  • Toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss
  • Body wash or bar soap
  • Face moisturizer
  • Sunscreen (with SPF 30 or higher)

You can include other items in a dopp kit, like pain relievers, Q-tips, band-aids, and anything you use regularly, like medications. A travel kit for men should include grooming essentials and any other products (like medications) that make it easy to grab and go and have everything you need to be comfortable and clean.

Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow: The Best of Moscow!

I just got back from one week in Moscow. And, as you might have already guessed, it was a mind-boggling experience. It was not my first trip to the Russian capital. But I hardly ever got enough time to explore this sprawling city. Visiting places for business rarely leaves enough time for sightseeing. I think that if you’ve got one week in Russia, you can also consider splitting your time between its largest cities (i.e. Saint Petersburg ) to get the most out of your trip. Seven days will let you see the majority of the main sights and go beyond just scratching the surface. In this post, I’m going to share with you my idea of the perfect travel itinerary for one week in Moscow.

Moscow is perhaps both the business and cultural hub of Russia. There is a lot more to see here than just the Kremlin and Saint Basil’s Cathedral. Centuries-old churches with onion-shaped domes dotted around the city are in stark contrast with newly completed impressive skyscrapers of Moscow City dominating the skyline. I spent a lot of time thinking about my Moscow itinerary before I left. And this city lived up to all of my expectations.

7-day Moscow itinerary

Travel Itinerary For One Week in Moscow

Day 1 – red square and the kremlin.

Metro Station: Okhotny Ryad on Red Line.

No trip to Moscow would be complete without seeing its main attraction. The Red Square is just a stone’s throw away from several metro stations. It is home to some of the most impressive architectural masterpieces in the city. The first thing you’ll probably notice after entering it and passing vendors selling weird fur hats is the fairytale-like looking Saint Basil’s Cathedral. It was built to commemorate one of the major victories of Ivan the Terrible. I once spent 20 minutes gazing at it, trying to find the perfect angle to snap it. It was easier said than done because of the hordes of locals and tourists.

As you continue strolling around Red Square, there’s no way you can miss Gum. It was widely known as the main department store during the Soviet Era. Now this large (yet historic) shopping mall is filled with expensive boutiques, pricey eateries, etc. During my trip to Moscow, I was on a tight budget. So I only took a retro-style stroll in Gum to get a rare glimpse of a place where Soviet leaders used to grocery shop and buy their stuff. In case you want some modern shopping experience, head to the Okhotny Ryad Shopping Center with stores like New Yorker, Zara, and Adidas.

Read Next: Things To Do on Socotra

To continue this Moscow itinerary, next you may want to go inside the Kremlin walls. This is the center of Russian political power and the president’s official residence. If you’re planning to pay Kremlin a visit do your best to visit Ivan the Great Bell Tower as well. Go there as early as possible to avoid crowds and get an incredible bird’s-eye view. There are a couple of museums that are available during designated visiting hours. Make sure to book your ticket online and avoid lines.

Day 2 – Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, the Tretyakov Gallery, and the Arbat Street

Metro Station: Kropotkinskaya on Red Line

As soon as you start creating a Moscow itinerary for your second day, you’ll discover that there are plenty of metro stations that are much closer to certain sites. Depending on your route, take a closer look at the metro map to pick the closest.

The white marble walls of Christ the Saviour Cathedral are awe-inspiring. As you approach this tallest Orthodox Christian church, you may notice the bronze sculptures, magnificent arches, and cupolas that were created to commemorate Russia’s victory against Napoleon.

travel itinerary for one week in Moscow

How to Get a Decent Haircut in a Foreign Country

Unfortunately, the current Cathedral is a replica, since original was blown to bits in 1931 by the Soviet government. The new cathedral basically follows the original design, but they have added some new elements such as marble high reliefs.

Home to some precious collection of artworks, in Tretyakov Gallery you can find more than 150,000 of works spanning centuries of artistic endeavor. Originally a privately owned gallery, it now has become one of the largest museums in Russia. The Gallery is often considered essential to visit. But I have encountered a lot of locals who have never been there.

Famous for its souvenirs, musicians, and theaters, Arbat street is among the few in Moscow that were turned into pedestrian zones. Arbat street is usually very busy with tourists and locals alike. My local friend once called it the oldest street in Moscow dating back to 1493. It is a kilometer long walking street filled with fancy gift shops, small cozy restaurants, lots of cute cafes, and street artists. It is closed to any vehicular traffic, so you can easily stroll it with kids.

Day 3 – Moscow River Boat Ride, Poklonnaya Hill Victory Park, the Moscow City

Metro Station: Kievskaya and Park Pobedy on Dark Blue Line / Vystavochnaya on Light Blue Line

Voyaging along the Moscow River is definitely one of the best ways to catch a glimpse of the city and see the attractions from a bit different perspective. Depending on your Moscow itinerary, travel budget and the time of the year, there are various types of boats available. In the summer there is no shortage of boats, and you’ll be spoiled for choice.

exploring Moscow

Travel Itinerary for One Week in Beijing

If you find yourself in Moscow during the winter months, I’d recommend going with Radisson boat cruise. These are often more expensive (yet comfy). They offer refreshments like tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and, of course, alcoholic drinks. Prices may vary but mostly depend on your food and drink selection. Find their main pier near the opulent Ukraine hotel . The hotel is one of the “Seven Sisters”, so if you’re into the charm of Stalinist architecture don’t miss a chance to stay there.

The area near Poklonnaya Hill has the closest relation to the country’s recent past. The memorial complex was completed in the mid-1990s to commemorate the Victory and WW2 casualties. Also known as the Great Patriotic War Museum, activities here include indoor attractions while the grounds around host an open-air museum with old tanks and other vehicles used on the battlefield.

How I Planned My Trip to Vietnam

The hallmark of the memorial complex and the first thing you see as you exit metro is the statue of Nike mounted to its column. This is a very impressive Obelisk with a statue of Saint George slaying the dragon at its base.

Maybe not as impressive as Shanghai’s Oriental Pearl Tower , the skyscrapers of the Moscow City (otherwise known as Moscow International Business Center) are so drastically different from dull Soviet architecture. With 239 meters and 60 floors, the Empire Tower is the seventh highest building in the business district.

The observation deck occupies 56 floor from where you have some panoramic views of the city. I loved the view in the direction of Moscow State University and Luzhniki stadium as well to the other side with residential quarters. The entrance fee is pricey, but if you’re want to get a bird’s eye view, the skyscraper is one of the best places for doing just that.

Day 4 – VDNKh, Worker and Collective Farm Woman Monument, The Ostankino TV Tower

Metro Station: VDNKh on Orange Line

VDNKh is one of my favorite attractions in Moscow. The weird abbreviation actually stands for Russian vystavka dostizheniy narodnogo khozyaystva (Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy). With more than 200 buildings and 30 pavilions on the grounds, VDNKh serves as an open-air museum. You can easily spend a full day here since the park occupies a very large area.

Moscow sights

Places to Visit in Barcelona That Aren’t Beaches

First, there are pavilions that used to showcase different cultures the USSR was made of. Additionally, there is a number of shopping pavilions, as well as Moskvarium (an Oceanarium) that features a variety of marine species. VDNKh is a popular venue for events and fairs. There is always something going on, so I’d recommend checking their website if you want to see some particular exhibition.

A stone’s throw away from VDNKh there is a very distinctive 25-meters high monument. Originally built in 1937 for the world fair in Paris, the hulking figures of men and women holding a hammer and a sickle represent the Soviet idea of united workers and farmers. It doesn’t take much time to see the monument, but visiting it gives some idea of the Soviet Union’s grandiose aspirations.

I have a thing for tall buildings. So to continue my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow I decided to climb the fourth highest TV tower in the world. This iconic 540m tower is a fixture of the skyline. You can see it virtually from everywhere in Moscow, and this is where you can get the best panoramic views (yep, even better than Empire skyscraper).

top things to do in Moscow

Parts of the floor are made of tempered glass, so it can be quite scary to exit the elevator. But trust me, as you start observing buildings and cars below, you won’t want to leave. There is only a limited number of tickets per day, so you may want to book online. Insider tip: the first tour is cheaper, you can save up to $10 if go there early.

Day 5 – A Tour To Moscow Manor Houses

Metro Station: Kolomenskoye, Tsaritsyno on Dark Green Line / Kuskovo on Purple Line

I love visiting the manor houses and palaces in Moscow. These opulent buildings were generally built to house Russian aristocratic families and monarchs. Houses tend to be rather grand affairs with impressive architecture. And, depending on the whims of the owners, some form of a landscaped garden.

During the early part of the 20th century though, many of Russia’s aristocratic families (including the family of the last emperor) ended up being killed or moving abroad . Their manor houses were nationalized. Some time later (after the fall of the USSR) these were open to the public. It means that today a great many of Moscow’s finest manor houses and palaces are open for touring.

one week Moscow itinerary

20 Travel Tips I’ve Learned From Travelling The World

There are 20 manor houses scattered throughout the city and more than 25 in the area around. But not all of them easily accessible and exploring them often takes a lot of time. I’d recommend focusing on three most popular estates in Moscow that are some 30-minute metro ride away from Kremlin.

Sandwiched between the Moscow River and the Andropov Avenue, Kolomenskoye is a UNESCO site that became a public park in the 1920’s. Once a former royal estate, now it is one of the most tranquil parks in the city with gorgeous views. The Ascension Church, The White Column, and the grounds are a truly grand place to visit.

You could easily spend a full day here, exploring a traditional Russian village (that is, in fact, a market), picnicking by the river, enjoying the Eastern Orthodox church architecture, hiking the grounds as well as and wandering the park and gardens with wildflower meadows, apple orchards, and birch and maple groves. The estate museum showcases Russian nature at its finest year-round.

12 Stunning National Parks and Regional Parks In France

If my travel itinerary for one week in Moscow was a family tree, Tsaritsyno Park would probably be the crazy uncle that no-one talks about. It’s a large park in the south of the city of mind-boggling proportions, unbelievable in so many ways, and yet most travelers have never heard of it.

The palace was supposed to be a summer home for Empress Catherine the Great. But since the construction didn’t meet with her approval the palace was abandoned. Since the early 1990’s the palace, the pond, and the grounds have been undergoing renovations. The entire complex is now looking brighter and more elaborately decorated than at possibly any other time during its history. Like most parks in Moscow, you can visit Tsaritsyno free of charge, but there is a small fee if you want to visit the palace.

Moscow itinerary

How To Stop Procrastinating When Trip Planning

Last, but by no means least on my Moscow itinerary is Kuskovo Park . This is definitely an off-the-beaten-path place. While it is not easily accessible, you will be rewarded with a lack of crowds. This 18th-century summer country house of the Sheremetev family was one of the first summer country estates of the Russian nobility. And when you visit you’ll quickly realize why locals love this park.

Like many other estates, Kuskovo has just been renovated. So there are lovely French formal garden, a grotto, and the Dutch house to explore. Make sure to plan your itinerary well because the estate is some way from a metro station.

Day 6 – Explore the Golden Ring

Creating the Moscow itinerary may keep you busy for days with the seemingly endless amount of things to do. Visiting the so-called Golden Ring is like stepping back in time. Golden Ring is a “theme route” devised by promotion-minded journalist and writer Yuri Bychkov.

Having started in Moscow the route will take you through a number of historical cities. It now includes Suzdal, Vladimir, Kostroma, Yaroslavl and Sergiev Posad. All these awe-inspiring towns have their own smaller kremlins and feature dramatic churches with onion-shaped domes, tranquil residential areas, and other architectural landmarks.

Two Weeks In Thailand: The Perfect 14-Day Itinerary

I only visited two out of eight cities included on the route. It is a no-brainer that Sergiev Posad is the nearest and the easiest city to see on a day trip from Moscow. That being said, you can explore its main attractions in just one day. Located some 70 km north-east of the Russian capital, this tiny and overlooked town is home to Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius, UNESCO Site.

things to do in Moscow in seven days

You Will Also Like: 3-Day London Itinerary

Sergiev Posad is often described as being at the heart of Russian spiritual life. So it is uncommon to see the crowds of Russian pilgrims showing a deep reverence for their religion. If you’re traveling independently and using public transport, you can reach Sergiev Posad by bus (departs from VDNKh) or by suburban commuter train from Yaroslavskaya Railway Station (Bahnhof). It takes about one and a half hours to reach the town.

Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius is a great place to get a glimpse of filling and warming Russian lunch, specifically at the “ Gostevaya Izba ” restaurant. Try the duck breast, hearty potato and vegetables, and the awesome Napoleon cake.

Day 7 – Gorky Park, Izmailovo Kremlin, Patriarch’s Ponds

Metro Station: Park Kultury or Oktyabrskaya on Circle Line / Partizanskaya on Dark Blue Line / Pushkinskaya on Dark Green Line

Gorky Park is in the heart of Moscow. It offers many different types of outdoor activities, such as dancing, cycling, skateboarding, walking, jogging, and anything else you can do in a park. Named after Maxim Gorky, this sprawling and lovely park is where locals go on a picnic, relax and enjoy free yoga classes. It’s a popular place to bike around, and there is a Muzeon Art Park not far from here. A dynamic location with a younger vibe. There is also a pier, so you can take a cruise along the river too.

How to Save Money While Traveling in Europe

The Kremlin in Izmailovo is by no means like the one you can find near the Red Square. Originally built for decorative purposes, it now features the Vernissage flea market and a number of frequent fairs, exhibitions, and conferences. Every weekend, there’s a giant flea market in Izmailovo, where dozens of stalls sell Soviet propaganda crap, Russian nesting dolls, vinyl records, jewelry and just about any object you can imagine. Go early in the morning if you want to beat the crowds.

All the Bulgakov’s fans should pay a visit to Patriarch’s Ponds (yup, that is plural). With a lovely small city park and the only one (!) pond in the middle, the location is where the opening scene of Bulgakov’s novel Master and Margarita was set. The novel is centered around a visit by Devil to the atheistic Soviet Union is considered by many critics to be one of the best novels of the 20th century. I spent great two hours strolling the nearby streets and having lunch in the hipster cafe.

Conclusion and Recommendations

To conclude, Moscow is a safe city to visit. I have never had a problem with getting around and most locals are really friendly once they know you’re a foreigner. Moscow has undergone some serious reconstruction over the last few years. So you can expect some places to be completely different. I hope my one week Moscow itinerary was helpful! If you have less time, say 4 days or 5 days, I would cut out day 6 and day 7. You could save the Golden Ring for a separate trip entirely as there’s lots to see!

I know very little about Moscow or Russia for the\at matter. I do know I would have to see the Red Square and all of its exquisite architectural masterpieces. Also the CATHEDRAL OF CHRIST THE SAVIOUR. Thanks for shedding some light on visiting Moscow.

Thanks for swinging by! The Red Square is a great starting point, but there way too many places and things to discover aside from it!
