Top 30 places to visit in alwar, 1. bala quila.

A 1200-year-old fort is situated on the head of a hill that looks like the crown of the city. The fort is located just 2 km from the Alwar city within the Sariska Tiger Reserve buffer zone. Along with the beautiful architecture, it has great biodiversity around the fort, the forest area around Bala Quila has a good density of sambhar, peafowl, porcupine along with the presence of tigers, leopards, jungle cats, other birds, and reptiles. Alongside the fort has historical moments with Mughal era, during the Akhbar rule his rebellious son Salim ( Emperor Jahangir) was deported to Bala Quila for 3 years as the punishment.

2. Bhangarh Fort

One of the most haunted forts of Asia is located 90 km from Alwar, Rajasthan. It is famous as the city of ghosts and is a treasure of archeologists’. The ruined fort, the market buried under the earth, and many old temples of great architectural value are the top attractions for the visitors who visit here. Bhangarh is hardly 5.5 km from Sariska and about 20 km from Dausa (District Headquarters on Jaipur-Agra National Highway).

2. Pandupole

The panadol is situated 21 km from the main entrance of the Sariska tiger reserve (Sariska Gate). It is a 20 ft by 15 ft hole at a height of 300ft from the ground, this gateway on a hillock was made by Bhim from Mahabharata using his Gada (mace) in search of water. A temple of Sleeping Lord Hanuman is also situated in the same valley which is just 0.5 km before Pandupole. It is believed that Lord Hanuman broke the boast of Bhim and blessed him here.

Sariska National Park is located in the Alwar District of Rajasthan State of India. It is surrounded by Aravali hills which are the oldest mountain series of India. Sariska became a wildlife sanctuary in the year 1955 and became Tiger Reserve later in the year 1978. Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary, Alwar Overview

Nestled in the Aravali Hills over an area of about 800 sq. Km covering the grasslands, dry deciduous forests, cliffs and rocky landscape, lays the Sariska National Park, now known as The Sariska Tiger Reserve. This area was once hunting preservation of The Maharaja of Alwar. The Reserve is known for its majestic Royal Bengal Tigers. It was declared as a national park in 1982.

The protected area is a part of the Aravali Range and the Kathiawar-Gir dry deciduous forests ecoregion. In 1978, it was given the status of Tiger Reserve under the Project Tiger. It is the first tiger reserve to relocate the Tigers (from Ranthambore) successfully. As it lies in the lap of Aravali Hills, it holds an abundant amount of mineral resources like copper.

  • The former hunting grounds of Royals were declared to be a Wildlife Reserve in 1955, and it got its status as a Tiger Reserve and National Park in 1978 under the Project Tiger Scheme of Indian Government.

SARISKA WILDLIFE SANTUARY

Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Alwar. Immerse in wildlife wonders at Sariska Sanctuary with exclusive Rajasthan packages . The sanctuary also houses the rare Indian Eagle-Owl. But the sanctuary is not just famous for its flora and fauna. A number of historical temples can be found inside the sanctuary, that add further mystery and majesty to the place. Trekking through the wildlife sanctuary is a great experience.

About Sariska

Jeep safari in the jungles of sariska.

Tourists can explore the jungle of Sariska by making two types of Safari Booking, Sariska Jeep Safari and Sariska Canter Safari. There are two gates in Sariska, Sariska Gate and Tehla gate and each of the gate has three zones.

Jeep Safari: Approximate time for exploring the jungle of Sariska by Jeep Safari is of 3:30 hours. By this Jeep Safari, a small group of six people can explore the jungle and the wild animals in their natural habitat. Though Jeep safari can be done by any six people but it is especially suggested for wildlife photographers as they can easily capture the unique moments of Royal Tiger and the other wild lives in their camera.

Canter Safari: Other than Jeep Safari, the option of Canter Safari is also there for the tourists to explore the jungle of Sariska. Generally open vans are called Canters and it best suits to the tourists of large group. It can accommodate 20 people at a time and it travels in all zones.

About Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary in Alwar

A tiger reserve that stretches in an area of 8 66 square kilometers, Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary is a popular tourist attraction in the Alwar district of Rajasthan. Not just rich in fauna, this reserve is also rich in flora consisting of plant species like deciduous trees, arid plants, tendu, ber, etc. Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary was earlier a hunting spot for the rulers of Alwar which in the year 1955 was converted to a wildlife reserve. Later, in the year 1990 it was declared a wildlife sanctuary. Being located in the foothills of Aravali ranges, the reserve is rich in minerals like copper.

Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary in Rajasthan is surrounded by rocky landscape, dense forests, and deciduous trees. It is famous for Royal Bengal Tigers and as per the current reports, it has a total of 18 tigers including cubs which are 5 in number. Other species of fauna spotted here are wild dog, nilgai, sambar, hanuman langur, chausingha, chitel, jungle cat etc. Several species of birds can also be seen at the reserve like bush quail, Indian peafowl, grey partridge, Indian eagle owls, etc. It also has the status of being the first wildlife sanctuary to relocate tigers successfully in the entire world. People from all walks of life especially photographers and animal lovers come for Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary tour by opting for a safari tour to fully admire the beauty of this place and to meet the wildlife in their natural habitat.

History of Sariska National Park

Earlier, Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary was a hunting ground for the Royal kings until it became a sanctuary in the year 1955. In the year 1978, the area came under the tiger reserve project and was given a status of tiger reserve. The Sariska Tiger Reserve is covered by deciduous and dry trees from all around and covers an area of 340 sq mi.   

Flora and Fauna at Sariska National Park 

Flora: Not just rich in a variety of fauna, Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary has a great variety of flora and the dominant one is deciduous trees like dhok. Other species of flora found here are ber, khair, gugal, bargad, tendu, gol, bamboo, and arjun. 

Fauna: Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary has a large variety of exotic species of animals including the Royal Bengal Tigers. Besides this, jungle cat, honey badger, rhesus macaque, Javan mongoose, sambar, nilgai, crested serpent eagle, Hanuman langur, sandgrouse, Indian peafowl, and a lot more birds and animals are found inside Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary .

The Royal Bengal Tigers are the main attraction of Sariska National Park . In the year 2018, there were a total of 18 tigers inside the sanctuary out of which 5 were reported to be cubs. It has been given the status of the first sanctuary in the world to have successfully relocated the tigers.  

Jeep Safari at Sariska Wildlife Sanctuary

Sariska jeep safari takes place twice a day, once in the morning and other in the afternoon. The morning slot timings are 06:00 am to 09:00 am and afternoon slot timings are 03:00 pm to 06:00 pm.
