Taylor Swift's Snake—Whose Name Is Karyn, BTW—Stole the Show at the 2018 American Music Awards

In case you missed it, Taylor Swift ’s return to the awards-show stage, at the 2018 American Music Awards , was literally on fire . But the real star of the show wasn't Swift—sorry, T—it was her snake, who is apparently named Karyn.

The giant cobra that Swift traveled around the country with during her Reputation tour—a not-so-subtle nod to the “ snake ” nickname Kim Kardashian gave her in the wake of their now infamous leaked phone call—made an appearance onstage at the AMAs, and Twitter agreed that the reptile hands down won the night. Earlier this year Swift revealed to a fan that the snake’s name is Karyn (with a “y”—very important), and Karyn began trending Tuesday shortly after the performance had finished.

“This performance was honestly everything. Just a few years ago Taylor was taunted by the entire world and repeatedly called a snake, tonight when Karyn rose so did Taylor and her confidence #TaylorAMAs #AMAs,” wrote one user.

Another fan pointed to the similarities between Swift’s Balmain red-carpet look earlier in the night and Karyn’s actual scales.

It seems even Swift recognized Karyn’s unmatched popularity. Shortly after her performance, Swift took to Instagram Stories, reposting a Buzzfeed story about Karyn, captioning it with a thank-you to fans for “liking [her] duet with Karyn.”

Swift’s performance comes just days after her rare public political statement , which she posted on Instagram, to endorse the Democratic candidates for Tennessee’s Senate and House of Representatives races—in turn, upsetting conservative men. Ahead of the show, fans wondered whether her choice to sing “I Did Something Bad” at the AMAs was somehow related to her political message.

“It just dawned on me that Taylor Swift is the opening performer at the American Music Awards tomorrow. Awards show ratings have been dismal in recent years. Ironic that she’s never been political before, but decides to be right before the AMAs,” wrote one fan . “Taylor revealed her political stance and set the United States on fire. She will sing “I did something bad” iconic, fabulous, winning as always and destroying careers. The world is not ready for this," shared another.

First Trailer for Netflix’s Taylor Swift Concert Film ‘Reputation’

Are you ready for it?

Netflix has dipped its toe into a number of genres over the past couple of years, from comedy specials to Oscar-contending original films, but one area that could see some improvement is the concert documentary. That may be changing soon, as Netflix just dropped the first trailer for Taylor Swift Reputation Stadium Tour , a concert documentary that chronicles the last show of the bestselling artist’s U.S. leg of her reputation album tour. Oh, and it’s dropping on New Year’s Eve.

It’s unclear who directed this thing, but fans will no doubt be thrilled to get a front-row seat to the stadium tour for one of the biggest live acts around. This also serves as a great reminder that currently streaming on Netflix is Jonathan Demme ’s incredible concert documentary Justin Timberlake + the Tennessee Kids , which chronicles the final two shows of Justin Timberlake ’s 20/20 Experience tour.

Indeed, here’s hoping this opens the door for even more concert films on Netflix. It’s the perfect outlet for it, and when done right, the concert documentary can be a fantastic work of art all its own.

For now, check out the Taylor Swift reputation Stadium Tour trailer below. The Netflix original—which also features appearances by Camilla Cabello and Charlie XCX —will be released on New Year’s Eve, so plan your viewing parties accordingly.

Here’s the official synopsis for Taylor Swift reputation Stadium Tour :

Taylor Swift’s ‘Reputation’ Film Shows Why She’s One of the All-Time Greats

By Rob Sheffield

Rob Sheffield

Taylor Swift ’s triumphant Reputation tour gets immortalized the way it deserves in her new Netflix concert film, which premieres on the streaming service on New Year’s Eve. (Just in time for “New Year’s Day”: that’s our Taylor, always thinking conceptually.) It shows off the biggest and best tour yet from one of pop’s all-time great live performers — Swift goes for stadium-rocking spectacle, without toning down any of her songs’ one-on-one emotional intimacy. Nobody else is in this girl’s zone. The Reputation doc was shot on the final night of the U.S. run, at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, with 60,000 fans singing along with every word, right down to every last “isn’t it?” in “Delicate.”

Swift is an artist who knows she doesn’t need special effects — she can get up there with just her acoustic guitar and slay, any night she chooses. All she needs is her songs, and she’s sitting on a songbook full of classics . But if she’s going to do a mega-pop show, she’s going to go all the way, because that’s what she does. So Reputation is a tribute to her epic ambition, with a dazzling battalion of dancers, pyro explosions, video screens and giant inflatable snakes, including a 63-foot cobra named Karyn. As her secret soul sister Courtney Love would say, Taylor wants to be the girl with the most snake.

It’s a New Year’s Eve victory toast to top off her historic 2018. Reputation was the year’s best-selling album, according to Billboard , even topping Drake’s Scorpion . She also had the biggest-selling U.S. tour in history, according to Pollstar . Has any female solo artist done an all-stadium tour before? With two female opening acts, Charli XCX and Camila Cabello? Swift took her tour to seven countries on four continents, selling nearly three million tickets. (The only artist who outgrossed her globally? Her old protegee Ed Sheeran, with whom she co-wrote “Everything Has Changed” while they were both bouncing on a trampoline.)

Editor’s picks

Every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term, the 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history.

I saw the tour’s first night — in Arizona, back in May — and it blew the wheels off my getaway car . But as the film proves, this tour got more legendary as it rolled on. She makes “Delicate” so theatrically splendid (she glides above the crowd in a golden basket) and yet so personal and vulnerable. “Delicate” was my favorite song of 2017 , before it was a hit, but I love it twice as much after hearing it constantly on the radio all year — I recently passed my millionth “isn’t it?” and I plan to keep over-isn’t-it-ing my way through 2019.

Swift turns “Shake It Off” into a serpentine throwdown with Camila and Charli. “Getaway Car,” the Rep gem that really should have been a hit, begins with a dramatic poetry recital: “And in the death of her reputation, she felt truly alive.” She sits at the piano for a medley combining two of her best deep cuts, “Long Live” (from 2010’s Speak Now ) and “New Year’s Day,” showing how far she’s traveled as a songwriter. “New Year’s Day” is the surprise ending to Reputation  — a quiet piano ballad after so many synth jams. She sings about cleaning up the morning after the party, sweeping glitter off the floor with somebody who makes her look forward to the year ahead. Only Taylor could focus on the least glamorous, most boring holiday in the calendar and find some romance in it. (Maybe next year she’ll do Arbor Day?)

Swift made every show different by picking a surprise for the B-stage wild-card slot — an oldie from her songbook, played on acoustic guitar. Part of the fun was waiting to see what she’d bust out every night. Seattle got “Holy Ground,” Dublin got “Mean,” Atlanta got “The Lucky One.” Chicago got “Our Song.” Nashville got “Tim McGraw,” joined by McGraw and Faith Hill . New Jersey got “Enchanted,” timed perfectly so the rain storm hit the crowd right at the “please don’t be in love with someone else,” proof she’s in cahoots with the weather. It’s a tribute to her vast catalog — but also to her fans, who stand ready to sing all 129 of her songs at a moment’s notice. For this show, she ends the U.S. tour with the B-stage surprise she picked the first night: “All Too Well,” the mightiest song she’s ever written. She hadn’t sung it live since 2014 — but she delivers this majestic scarf-core ballad with a voice full of adult regret.

Reputation was a risky move — after the Number One hit “Look What You Made Me Do,” the world was primed for her to sing about celebrity score-settling, but instead, it turned out to be an album full of deeply personal love songs. It didn’t fit the “narrative” of what people thought she was about. People predicted that she was killing her career, alienating fans, etc., but people have been saying that ever since she had the gall to change the plot of Romeo and Juliet . It turned out to be a lot more than just another great Swift album — it was a statement about how far she’s willing to go as an artist, starting over from scratch every time. Even when she started as a kid, she had her own scholarly sense of pop history and a brash notion of her place in it. But with this tour and the whole 2018 she’s had, she shows why she’s making history. She’s never willing to rest on her reputation — but in the death of her reputation, she feels truly alive. Long live.

«I learned a really important lesson that I've been telling you from the stage for about ten years, but I never had to learn it so harshly myself and that lesson has to do with how much you value your reputation. And I think that the lesson is that you shouldn't care so much if you feel misunderstood by a lot of people who don't know you, as long as you feel understood by the people who do know you.» Taylor Swift

Critical Reception

«Seeing people grow up in the crowd, or in meet and greets and stuff, looking out and seeing somebody who I met when they were ten and now they're a full-grown adult – that is wild. Or somebody coming up to me and saying, 'I've been listening to your music since I was twelve,' and now they're a grown up. It's just never ever going to feel like, 'Oh yeah, that seems normal to me.' It's always going to seem deeply interesting and wild...I definitely think that I tried to keep my expectations very realistic when it came to thinking, 'You know, I could be a phase for some people.' I just appreciate every moment, so when somebody comes up to me and says 'I'm still listening to your music,' to me that means that it's lasted through all the other phases in their lives.» Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift has released a belated Christmas present for fans, in the form of her Reputation stadium tour on Netflix .

The concert film, which appeared on the streaming site on New Year’s Eve, is comprised of footage from the last show of the US leg of the pop star’s world tour at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, using 28 cameras.

It features the pyro, elaborate staging, fireworks, dances and a 63ft inflatable cobra called Karyn that were all part of her critically acclaimed show, along with special appearances from Camila Cabello and Charli XCX. It streams globally on 31 December.

Swift closed her Reputation tour on a particular high point, with the news that she had broken the record for the highest-grossing US tour since Billboard records began tracking tour data in 1990.

  • Taylor Swift brings ‘Reputation’ era to an end by closing app
  • Taylor Swift’s Reputation tour to be shown on Netflix
  • Taylor Swift and James Corden’s roles in ‘Cats’ film revealed

The tour grossed $266.1m and sold 2,068,399 tickets, beating the previous record held by The Rolling Stones for their A Bigger Bang tour, which ran between 2005 and 2007 and grossed $245m. Swift also managed to achieve the feat in just 38 shows, while the Stones took 70 to reach their record.

The Reputation tour also attracted critical acclaim around the world. Reviewing her first show of the UK leg, The Independent branded it a “dazzling spectacle” and the “biggest event on the 2018 pop calendar”.

Albums of the year 2018

“A breathtaking rendition of ‘Bad Blood’ adds a countrified guitar hook so it switches easily over to ‘Should Have Said No’,” the review said. ”There was so much uproar over ticket prices when Swift announced the tour, yet from the offset it has been apparent – for any fans who doubted it – that it was worth every penny, as the stage is flooded with red lighting and dancers swing from trapeze with all the splendour of a Broadway show.

“The dynamic of the gig is perfect – there are lulls, but only when they’re intended, to create pauses between the big songs that feel profoundly intimate.”

The typical setlist for the Reputation stadium tour was as follows:

  • “...Ready for It?”
  • “I Did Something Bad”
  • “Style” / “Love Story” / “You Belong with Me”
  • “Look What You Made Me Do”
  • “King of My Heart”
  • “Shake It Off” (with Camila Cabello and Charli XCX)
  • “Dancing with Our Hands Tied”
  • “All Too Well”
  • “Blank Space”
  • “Bad Blood” / “Should’ve Said No”
  • “Don’t Blame Me”
  • “Long Live” / “New Year’s Day”
  • “Getaway Car”
  • “Call It What You Want”
  • “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” / “This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things”

Taylor Swift's New Stage Is Like an 'Optical Illusion,' Plus More Reputation Tour Details

The countdown to Taylor Swift's Reputation Stadium Tour is on, and the details only get better and better

rep tour karyn

The countdown to Taylor Swift ‘s Reputation Stadium Tour is on, and the details only get better and better.

The 28-year-old Grammy winner provided fans with their “10-day update” — “I can’t believe it,” she said of the timing — via her Instagram Stories on Saturday, going on to describe her larger-than-life stage setup .

“The stage is the biggest stage we’ve ever had ,” the “Delicate” singer explained. “It’s 110 feet tall, and both of the B stages that are out in the audience are pretty much just as big as the main stage on the 1989 tour.”

“The thing about this stage that we’ve never had before is it’s got a video screen wall that’s pretty seamless, and that continues down onto the floor, so everything we’re walking on onstage is a screen,” Swift added. “It’s so cool from like the upper sections of the stadiums.”

But it’s taking some getting used to for the people onstage. “When we’re walking on it, though, it’s kind of like you’re walking on an optical illusion,” she said, laughing.

And though Swift finds it a bit disorienting, she noted, “We’ll get used to it, I promise.”

If you can’t wait to see the stage, Swift promised that you’ll get a sneak peek she continues updating fans on Instagram leading up to the launch of the tour on May 8 at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. What’s more, the debut date has already set a big record.

“The frenzy continues to grow as Taylor Swift has already broken the University of Phoenix Stadium’s concert attendance record, which was previously held by One Direction in 2014 with 56,524 fans,” said Tom Sadler, President and CEO of the Arizona Sports and Tourism Authority. “With 11 days left before the show, Swift has already surpassed their attendance number. The Taylor Swift reputation Stadium Tour , in Glendale, Arizona on May 8th will feature Swift along with opening acts Camila Cabello and Charli XCX.”

The latest revelations from Swift follow her update on Friday, when she got an assist from her dad, Scott Swift, and took fans inside her elaborate meet-and-greet experience named The Rep Room. Featuring the “Look What You Made Me Do” throne , snake decorations and a very Reputation canopy, the environment is an eye-catching celebration of Swift’s latest album era. Now fans just need to spot her dad at venues to get an invite!

Taylor Swift might have won for American Music Awards and put on a storming performances at the AMAs, but it was her snake Karyn who really stole the show.

The 28-year-old went home with four AMAs on Tuesday night – the highest loot along with Camila Cabello.

But it was her snake called Karyn who got more tongues wagging as she made her first awards show performance in three years by opening the AMAs.

Karyn is the name given to the snake that Taylor has adopted since she kicked off her Reputation tour in May this year.

Taylor went heavy with the use of snake imagery for her Reputation tour – there was a snake microphone, snake merchandise, and even a whopping great snake prop on stage.

And last night, as she performed I Did Something Bad, her whopping great snake, who she has affectionately named Karyn, appeared behind her.

Seeing news reports on how her snake stole the show, Taylor uploaded an Instagram Story writing: ‘Thank you for liking my duet w/ Karyn.’

She also posted a snap of her and a pregnant friend backstage at the AMAs, describing herself as a ‘mother of snakes’ in the caption.

Taylor revealed the cobra’s name was Karyn to a fan earlier this year.

There was certainly a lot of excitement from her fans last night.

So what does Karyn the snake represent?

Taylor directly addressed the use of the reptiles earlier this year, revealing they were a symbol of standing up to online bullies – namely Kim Kardashian, who called her a snake following the infamous phone call with Kanye West.

‘You might be wondering why there are so many snakes everywhere, huh?’ she said as she sat a piano. ‘A couple of years ago, someone called me a snake on social media and it caught on. Then a lot of people were calling me a lot of things on social media.’

She continued that her use of the imagery was an act of strength: ‘I wanted to send a message to you guys that if someone uses name calling to bully you on social media, and even if a lot of people jump on board with it, that doesn’t have to defeat you. It can strengthen you instead.

‘And I think something that came out of it that was good is that I learned a really important lesson that I’ve been telling you from the stage for about 10 years, but I never had to learn it so harshly myself — and that lesson has to do with how much you value your reputation.’

She added: ‘And I went through some really low times for a while because of it. I went through some times when I didn’t know if I was going to get to do this anymore.’

Taylor’s opening number – I Did Something Bad – was actually bleeped for audiences watching from home.

But fans loved the censor, as their excitement of the performance quickly turned to a newfound respect after she was censored for saying shit.

In the song, she sang: ‘If a man talks shit, then I owe him nothing / I don’t regret it one bit, ’cause he had it coming.’

ABC censors weren’t too keen on the s-word, so they chose to add a little tone flourish to the star’s work.

Taylor took home the awards for tour of the year, artist of the year and pop/rock album for and Reputation and pop/rock artist.

Earlier she’d absolutely owned the red carpet, wearing a futuristic vibe as she rocked a mini dress, adorned with what seemed like thousands of mini square mirrors, she completed the look with a pair of matching, thigh-high boots, and square-shaped earrings.

Netflix original [ ]

On December 13, 2018, Taylor thanked everyone for her birthday wishes on Instagram and also announced that there was going to be a tour movie for the Reputation Stadium Tour that would be released on New Year's Eve, titled Taylor Swift: reputation Stadium Tour . It was filmed at the last Dallas/Arlington show, which was the final US leg date. It featured the surprise song " All Too Well ".

Taylor Swift designed her own stage, complete with an elevator, and a rapid changing room for her eight costumes.

The main screen was 110 feet tall and and made of 12 columns and 1,5OO LED tiles that split into 49 individual screens that moved depending on the song. The stage design is an X shape and it also features a B & C Stage that Taylor accessed with the floating constellation and snake gondolas during " Delicate " and the " Bad Blood "/" Should've Said No " mashup. The band played right behind the main screen and during certain parts of the show, the screen opened and the audience could see them.

During " Look What You Made Me Do ", there was a giant inflatable snake named Karyn on the stage as well as smaller inflatable snakes on the B & C Stage and for the show encore, a water fountain was installed on stage. There were also fire, smoke and fireworks effects throughout the show from the stage. The LED bracelets distributed to the attendees were interactive with the songs and stage visuals.

‘Taylor Swift: reputation Stadium Tour’

On the heels of the announcement that Taylor Swift’s latest concert film,  Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour, is hitting theaters nationwide in just over a month, it’s a perfect time to revisit Taylor Swift: reputation Stadium Tour , or check it out for the first time if you haven’t seen it already. Filmed live during the final show in Swift’s record-breaking 2018 stadium tour and released on Netflix to ring in 2019, Taylor Swift: reputation Stadium Tour is a beautifully shot concert film that manages to capture both the scale of the absolutely massive production, complete with movable LED video screens and a gigantic inflatable snake (known affectionately as Karyn by Swifties everywhere), and finer details like Swift’s sparkly costumes, her facial expressions, and the intricate choreography done by a small army of backup dancers. The film, which runs just over two hours, features the tour’s full 19 song setlist without any cuts — highlights of which include an acoustic “All Too Well” that predates the 10 minute version, the opening song “…ready for it?,” and a mashup of “Bad Blood” and “Should’ve Said No” that outshines the original versions of both songs. The film is such an immersive experience that it’ll have you singing and dancing along in your living room in no time.

Taylor Swift changed The Eras Tour set list to include 'The Tortured Poets Department.' Here are all 46 songs she performs now.

  • Taylor Swift's blockbuster Eras Tour resumed Thursday in Nanterre, France.
  • Swift altered the set list to include songs from her new album, "The Tortured Poets Department."
  • The current Eras Tour set list, which includes 46 various hits and deep cuts, is cataloged below.

Insider Today

Taylor Swift is back on the road for her record-breaking , economy-altering Eras Tour.

The stadium series kicked off last year in Glendale, Arizona, and quickly became a sensation . After making stops across the US, Mexico, South America , Japan, Australia, and Singapore , Swift will continue to perform throughout 2024 in Europe , plus a second North American leg scheduled for later this year.

On Thursday, Swift resumed The Eras Tour in France after a multi-week hiatus.

During that break, Swift released her 11th studio album, " The Tortured Poets Department " — so she adjusted the original 44-song set list to include brand new tracks, though other fan favorites (including " The Archer ," " The 1 ," and " Tolerate It ") were cut for time.

The updated show stretches for over three hours and includes 46 songs. The complete set list is cataloged below, in order of Swift's performance.

"Miss Americana & the Heartbreak Prince"

rep tour karyn

The Eras Tour is Swift's first live tour since 2018. The show opener includes the lyric, "It's been a long time coming, but / It's you and me, that's my whole world."

"Cruel Summer"

rep tour karyn

"Cruel Summer" was released as the second track on 2019's "Lover" and never promoted as a single.

However, once The Eras Tour was underway, the song experienced a delayed surge in popularity and became Swift's milestone 10th chart-topper on the Billboard Hot 100 .

"The Man"

rep tour karyn

"The Man" was promoted as the fourth single from "Lover," alongside an Easter egg-filled music video .

"You Need to Calm Down"

rep tour karyn

"You Need to Calm Down" is an ode to LGBTQ+ rights . The music video, which features a huge cast of queer celebrities , ends with a call to sign the Equality Act .

"Lover"

rep tour karyn

"Lover" is the solo-written title track from Swift's seventh studio album. Before she performs the song during The Eras Tour, she tells fans that she hopes it'll hold a special meaning for each individual who hears it.

"These are songs that I have written about my life or things I felt at one point in time," she says in the concert movie. "But after tonight, when you hear these songs out and about in the world, my dream is that you're gonna think about tonight, and the memories we made here together."

"Fearless"

rep tour karyn

"Fearless" is the title track for Swift's 2008 sophomore album, which is still known as the most-awarded country album of all time .

"You Belong With Me"

rep tour karyn

Swift won best female video for "You Belong With Me" at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards .

"Love Story"

rep tour karyn

"Love Story" was the first rerecorded song that Swift ever released from her "Taylor's Version" series.

"22"

rep tour karyn

When Swift performs "22" during The Eras Tour, she always gives her bowler hat to one lucky concertgoer .

"We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together"

rep tour karyn

"We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" was released as the lead single from "Red" in 2012. It became Swift's first-ever No. 1 hit on the Hot 100 .

"I Knew You Were Trouble"

rep tour karyn

The third single from "Red," coproduced by Max Martin and Shellback, peaked at No. 2 on the Hot 100.

"All Too Well (10 Minute Version)"

rep tour karyn

The extended version of "All Too Well" was released as the final track on " Red (Taylor's Version) " after years of fan anticipation.

It debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100, becoming the longest song ever to hold the chart's top position.

"Enchanted"

rep tour karyn

"Enchanted" is the only song from Swift's third album, "Speak Now," that she currently performs during The Eras Tour.

For a brief time, following the release of " Speak Now (Taylor's Version) ," Swift added the fan-favorite deep cut "Long Live" to the set list. It has since been removed.

"…Ready for It?"

rep tour karyn

"…Ready for It?" was originally teased during ABC's "Saturday Night Football" broadcast in 2017. It was later used by ESPN in college football commercials.

"Delicate"

rep tour karyn

Swift's performance of "Delicate" during The Eras Tour features a stage animation that cracks beneath her feet .

"Don't Blame Me"

rep tour karyn

"Don't Blame Me" is the sole non-single that Swift performs during the tour's "Reputation" segment. The fan-favorite track is often cited as a highlight of the show .

"Look What You Made Me Do"

rep tour karyn

"Look What You Made Me Do," which interpolates Right Said Fred's '90s hit "I'm Too Sexy," was released as the lead single from "Reputation" and debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100.

"Cardigan"

rep tour karyn

The No. 1 single "Cardigan" was released alongside Swift's beloved album " Folklore ." The song references Peter Pan and introduces the album's "teenage love triangle."

"Betty"

rep tour karyn

"Betty" is told from the perspective of a high schooler named James , who broke the heart of the titular heroine.

"Champagne Problems"

rep tour karyn

The heart-wrenching piano ballad "Champagne Problems" often inspires a minutes-long standing ovation during The Eras Tour.

"August"

rep tour karyn

Swift's debut performance of "August" took place at the 2021 Grammy Awards. Later that night, she won album of the year for "Folklore," her record-tying third trophy in that category.

"Illicit Affairs"

rep tour karyn

"Illicit Affairs" is widely interpreted as a song about marital infidelity, though its descriptions of forbidden love and "clandestine meetings" adopt new meanings through a queer lens .

"My Tears Ricochet"

rep tour karyn

In Swift's own words , "My Tears Ricochet" was inspired by the image of an "embittered tormentor showing up at the funeral of his fallen object of obsession."

"Marjorie"

rep tour karyn

"Marjorie" is named after Swift's late grandmother, Marjorie Finlay , an opera singer who died in 2003. Finlay is credited with background vocals in the song.

"Willow"

rep tour karyn

"Willow" was promoted as the lead single from " Evermore ." Like "Cardigan," it was released simultaneously with its parent album and debuted at No. 1 on the Hot 100.

"Style"

rep tour karyn

Swift briefly dated Harry Styles before releasing her fifth studio album, "1989."

When Rolling Stone asked about the inspiration behind the album's third track, "Style," she replied, "We should have just called it 'I'm Not Even Sorry.'"

"Blank Space"

rep tour karyn

"Blank Space" is a widely celebrated satire about Swift's reputation as a "serial dater."

"'She only writes songs to get emotional revenge on guys. She's a man-hater. Don't let her near your boyfriend,'" Swift explained at the time. "It was just kind of excessive and, you know, at first it was hurtful and then I kind of found a little comedy in it."

The song dethroned "Shake It Off" at No. 1 on the Hot 100, making Swift the first and only woman in history to replace herself in the chart's top spot. (She has since done it twice.)

"Shake It Off"

rep tour karyn

"Shake It Off" was released as the lead single from "1989," Swift's official pivot from country to pop music .

The song became her first to debut at No. 1 on the Hot 100 and remained there for four weeks. It also inspired a sketch on "Saturday Night Live"  about adults realizing they love Swift's music.

"Wildest Dreams"

rep tour karyn

"Wildest Dreams" was released as the first rerecorded song from "1989 (Taylor's Version)."

"Bad Blood"

rep tour karyn

"Bad Blood" was famously inspired by Swift's then-feud with Katy Perry , whom Swift accused of trying to "sabotage" her "Red" tour. (The two pop stars have long since buried the hatchet .)

The remix includes a feature from Kendrick Lamar , who returned to rerecord his verse for "1989 (Taylor's Version)."

"But Daddy I Love Him"

rep tour karyn

Following the release of her massive double album , "The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology," Swift added seven brand-new songs to The Eras Tour setlist.

The first is "But Daddy I Love Him," a sharp rebuke of Swift's own fans , many of whom criticized her dating life last year.

"So High School"

rep tour karyn

"So High School" is widely presumed to be about Swift's current boyfriend, NFL star Travis Kelce . The song's lyrics seem to reference their different professions: "You know how to ball, I know Aristotle."

"Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?"

rep tour karyn

Swift is the only songwriter credited for "Who's Afraid of Little Old Me?"

The song title is likely inspired by "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" — a celebrated play written by Edward Albee that tackles themes of truth versus illusion, fate versus choice, and feeling trapped.

"Down Bad"

rep tour karyn

"Down Bad" is a heartsick serenade that compares falling in love to being abducted by aliens.

"Fortnight"

rep tour karyn

"Fortnight" was promoted as the lead single from "The Tortured Poets Department," alongside a music video that costars Post Malone and references "Dead Poets Society."

"The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived"

rep tour karyn

"The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived" is a scathing breakup song that may have been inspired by Matty Healy , whom Swift dated while writing "The Tortured Poets Department." According to reports, their relationship lasted about one month .

"I Can Do It With a Broken Heart"

rep tour karyn

In a meta twist, "I Can Do It With a Broken Heart" was apparently inspired by The Eras Tour itself. The lyrics seem to reference a string of concerts last year, when Swift felt "miserable" but continued to perform as usual ("They said, 'Babe, you gotta fake it 'til you make it,' and I did").

Surprise Song No. 1

rep tour karyn

During each show on The Eras Tour, Swift performs a two-song acoustic set that changes every night . The first song is always played on acoustic guitar.

The first-ever surprise song Swift played in Arizona was "Mirrorball." For the first stop on the European leg, she chose the "Midnights" bonus cut "Paris."

Surprise Song No. 2

rep tour karyn

The second surprise song of the evening is always played on the piano.

In Arizona, Swift's first-ever surprise song on piano was "Tim McGraw," the lead single from her 2006 debut album. For night one in France, Swift played the "Tortured Poets" heartbreaker "Loml."

"Lavender Haze"

rep tour karyn

"Lavender Haze" is the opening track on Swift's 10th studio album " Midnights ."

"Anti-Hero"

rep tour karyn

"Anti-Hero" was promoted as the lead single from "Midnights." It debuted at No. 1 and became Swift's biggest hit to date, reigning atop the chart for eight weeks.

The same week that "Anti-Hero" arrived in the top spot, Swift became the first and only artist in history to  occupy the entire top 10 on the Hot 100 .

"Midnight Rain"

rep tour karyn

"Midnight Rain" doubles as a breakup song and an ode to Swift's own ambitions: "He wanted it comfortable, I wanted that pain / He wanted a bride, I was making my own name," she sings, calling back to the rejection of '50s gender roles in "Lavender Haze."

"Vigilante Shit"

rep tour karyn

Put simply, "Vigilante Shit" is about getting revenge. Many fans believe the song was inspired by Scooter Braun , who purchased Swift's back catalog in 2019. Less than two years later, he sold Swift's master recordings to a private equity company .

"Bejeweled"

rep tour karyn

The music video for "Bejeweled"  includes a variety of celebrity cameos, including Laura Dern, the Haim sisters, and Dita Von Teese.

"Mastermind"

rep tour karyn

In the chorus of "Mastermind," Swift seems to serenade her longtime fans: "What if I told you I'm a mastermind? / And now you're mine."

The song also references Swift's penchant for Easter eggs and her keen business acumen, which has allowed her to build a billion-dollar empire .

"I'm sick of women not being able to say that they have strategic business minds — because male artists are allowed to," Swift told Rolling Stone in 2019. "And so I'm sick and tired of having to pretend like I don't mastermind my own business."

Tiger Woods to be lone player on negotiating committee with Saudis

Tiger Woods will be the lone player on a five-member subcommittee that will be involved in negotiations with the Public Investment Fund, part of a busy day of governance as the PGA Tour tries to strike a deal with Saudi backers of LIV Golf.

Woods was appointed to the PGA Tour board in August, making him the sixth player-director and the only one whose board term has no limits.

The tour said Woods will be part of the “transaction subcommittee” on the board of PGA Tour Enterprises that will handle day-to-day negotiations as PIF seeks to become a minority investor.

Also on the subcommittee are PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan, board chairman Joe Gorder, John W. Henry of Fenway Sports Group and Joe Ogilvie, a former tour player appointed as a director liaison in March.

The subcommittee reports back to the full board.

The developments capped a day that began with Rory McIlroy losing the inside track on rejoining the board as Webb Simpson’s replacement when board members resisted his return.

“I think there was a subset of people on the board that were maybe uncomfortable with me coming back on for some reason,” McIlroy said at the Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina, where a $20 million signature event is being played.

Simpson had offered to resign, but only if McIlroy were to replace him. When a player director resigns, the other players on the board have to unanimously agree on a successor. McIlroy resigned from the board in November , and the players selected Jordan Spieth to replace him.

The seven players — Woods, Spieth, Simpson, Ogilvie, Patrick Cantlay, Adam Scott and Peter Malnati — are on the board of the PGA Tour and PGA Tour Enterprises, the commercial entity that agreed to a deal with Strategic Sports Group as a minority investor.

That deal included a $1.5 billion investment, which could be as much as $3 billion.

McIlroy was willing to return, believing he could help find a solution to the split in golf that has left some of the best players on two tours. McIlroy sees the reunification in some form as the ultimate goal and rubbed players the wrong way when he suggested earlier this year that LIV players return without punishment.

“Today’s news is in no way a commentary on Rory’s important perspective and influence,” Monahan said in a statement. “It’s simple a matter of adherence to our governance process by which a tour player becomes a board member.

“Webb remaining in his position as a member of the policy board and PGA Tour Enterprises board through the end of his term provides the continuity needed at this vital time,” he said. “We are making progress in our negotiations with the PIF.”

McIlroy is certain to stay involved in an unofficial capacity based on his experience of two years on the board and his voice in the game. He was the only European tour member on the PGA Tour board, and McIlroy has cultivated relationships across continents during his career.

He had said on a British soccer podcast at the start of this year that he met with the PIF governor, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai in late 2022 and that he returned home and encouraged the tour board to meet with him.

The framework agreement among the PGA Tour, European tour and PIF was announced June 6, with a deadline to finalize it by the end of 2023. Negotiations continue with little progress.

Woods was among the player directors who went to the Bahamas on March 18 — Monahan and Henry also attended — to meet with Al-Rumayyan.

Woods said at the Masters about that meeting, “I don’t know if we’re closer, but certainly we’re headed in the right direction. That was a very positive meeting, and I think both sides came away from the meeting feeling positive.”

Gorder is the chairman and CEO of Valero, the title sponsor of the Texas Open. He has been appointed the inaugural chairman of the PGA Tour Enterprises board.
