UPDATE (Oct. 25): This article has been updated to include six new dates added between Jan. 19 and March 13, 2024.

After more than half a century of crisscrossing the globe to spread the warm smell of colitas, the Eagles have announced the dates for their final tour . Dubbed “The Long Goodbye,” the trek will feature fellow Rock and Roll Hall of famers Steely Dan opening up the shows, which are slated to kick off Sept. 7 at Madison Square Garden in New York.

“The Eagles have had a miraculous 52-year odyssey, performing for people all over the globe; keeping the music alive in the face of tragic losses, upheavals and setbacks of many kinds,” read a statement from the group. “Credit and thanks go to our longtime management team, our dedicated road crew, and our exceptional backup musicians for providing skilled and steadfast support, throughout these many years. We know how fortunate we are, and we are truly grateful.”

“Our long run has lasted far longer than any of us ever dreamed. But, everything has its time, and the time has come for us to close the circle,” the band continued in its announcement, noting that the farewell run is still in the planning stages, with more dates to be announced at a later time. “We want to give all our fans a chance to see us on this final round… The difficulties of booking venues for multiple nights may require us to return to certain cities, depending on demand.  But, we hope to see as many of you as we can, before we finish up. Most importantly, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for embracing this band and its music. At the end of the day, you are the reason we have been able to carry on for over five decades. This is our swan song, but the music goes on and on.”

What to know about The Eagles 2022 'Hotel California' tour

eagles tour schedule 2022

The Eagles' will return to Nashville this week when their "Hotel California" tour comes to Bridgestone Arena April 28-29. The band last performed at Bridgestone Arena in March 2018 for a two-night run.

Here are some things to know about the 2022 tour.

'Hotel California' from start to finish

The show will feature a start-to-finish performance of the beloved 1976 album that shares a name with the tour.  A full orchestra, led by Nashville music industry giant Jim Ed Norman , and a choir will join the band. Norman, also known for his work with Linda Ronstadt, Bob Seger, Randy Travis and others, got his start as an orchestral arranger for The Eagles in 1973 on the song "Desperado."

This will be his first time to ever tour with the band. For the "Hotel California" tour, Norman was recruited to update his classic arrangements and conduct the musicians on stage.

"Hotel California" features staple cuts such as "Life In The Fast Lane," "Victim Of Love" and, of course, the title track. After performing the album, the band will also play a set of their greatest non-'California' hits.

The Eagles tour 2022 band lineup

Country Music Hall of Famer Vince Gill continues to tour with the band , a position he adopted in 2017, roughly a year after co-founding member Glenn Frey died.

The Eagles tour in 2022 will include Gill joining Don Henley, Timothy B. Schmit and Joe Walsh. Deacon Frey, Glenn's son, toured with The Eagles for more than four years following the death of his father in 2016, but it was recently announced he will not be on upcoming dates with the band.

"Deacon Frey has devoted the past 4½ years to carrying on his father’s legacy and, after some weeks of reflection, he now feels that it is time for him to forge his own path. We understand, completely, and we support him in whatever he wishes to pursue in the years ahead," a statement posted on The Eagles website says.

The Eagles kicked off the “Hotel California” concerts in 2019 in Las Vegas to rave reviews and critical acclaim. To date, the Eagles have performed more than 30 Sold-Out shows in 15 major U.S. arenas, including five nights at the famed Madison Square Garden in New York City, four nights at American Airlines Arena in Dallas, and three concerts at the Forum in Los Angeles.

“From the title track — a 6 1/2-minute flamenco-reggae ballad— to the elegiac closer ‘The Last Resort,’ it’s consummately performed…”

-Los Angeles Times

“The band performed the album from front to back, following with a blazing greatest hits set that had the audience at the sold-out arena constantly on its feet…With no exception, the songs have aged well, but how could they fail with the Eagles’ five-part harmony and five guitar-approach… (Henley’s) voice sounded as strong and pliant as it ever has, easily hitting the highest of notes, while retaining his trademark huskiness.”

“By now the orchestra has been joined by a choir. The Eagles’ sound, with its glowing harmonies, barely needs them, but they add to the sense of occasion – and the delight of the crowd. I’ve never seen so many songs receive a standing ovation.”

-Daily Mail

Hotel California is the third best-selling U.S. album in history, certified 26-times Platinum by the RIAA. After its release in 1976, it topped the charts and won two GRAMMY Awards for "New Kid in Town" and "Hotel California."  Several of the songs from the album have never been performed since the original “Hotel California” tour.  The band’s Their Greatest Hits 1971-1977 is the best-selling U.S. album in history, with the RIAA certifying the collection at 38-times Platinum.

In today’s faddish, fractured, rock landscape, the Eagles retain an appeal that transcends both generation and genre, cementing the band’s role as enduring musical icons. As the best-selling American band of the ’70s, and one of the top-selling acts of all time, the Eagles have sold more than 150 million albums worldwide, scored six #1 albums and topped the singles charts five times. They have won six GRAMMY® Awards, were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, in their first year of eligibility, and received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2016.

Deacon's Eagles family will always be here to surround him with love, support and goodwill, and he is always welcome to join us onstage at any future concerts if he so desires. The Eagles performed three initial “Hotel California” concerts in 2019 in Las Vegas to rave reviews and critical acclaim. To date, the band has performed more than 30 concerts across 15 U.S. cities.

Recent tour reviews

I have always wanted to see The Eagles as a matter of fact it is a bucket list concert. My very first time going to the see them and I was not disappointed. Three and a half hours of pure music with a small break. I sang along with almost every song the band played. I have gotten used to politics in concerts this was a politics free zone. thank you so much for the break.

One gripe if I have one it seemed like the special guest was Joe Walsh, he played James Gang to Eagles songs. It is a small gripe because the guy is just amazing. One thing I noticed just from being old when the girl came out in the Hotel California set to flip the album she actually did not flip the the album. yes I am old. but it was a great effect.

I would go see them again in 1/2 a heart beat.

What. A. Show! I grew up listening to the Eagles, either on album, CD, or my dad playing his guitar. It was a truly wonderful experience to be able to see them live with my dad and watch his enjoyment of seeing a band he’s loved for so long live. The staging and pace of the show was absolutely amazing and set the tone perfectly, and the graphics and lighting designers definitely did their best work. We were close to the stage and it was absolutely fascinating to watch all the cameras recording the event, as well. The band was exceptional but the team behind them is definitely to be commended for this one! I hope everyone who sees this tour has the same level of enjoyment my family and I did!

Experiencing the September, 2019 Eagles "Hotel California" concert at the MGM was a musical trip into near perfection.

The sound was very good even in our very expensive nosebleed seats.

The place was packed and the audience nonstop in its loud and persistent appreciation of all things Eagles, especially new members Deacon Frey and Vince Gill.

Longtime mega-talented members Henley, Walsh and Smith were true crowd pleasers, as they always are.

Having a full orchestra and an angelic choir from UNLV supporting the endeavor was at times ethereally mesmerizing to the point of enthrallment.

Once again the Eagles have lived up to their reputation as purveyors of musical excellence.

Eagles Reportedly Have Spoken To Superstar About Contract Extension

It sounds like the Eagles are interested in keeping the star around long-term

  • Author: Patrick McAvoy

In this story:

It sounds like the Philadelphia Eagles may be discussing a major contract.

Philadelphia has been in the news lately as rumors have popped up about the future of star wide receiver A.J. Brown. The Eagles acquired Brown in a trade with the Tennessee Titans ahead of the 2022 season and he has been exactly what the franchise could've asked for.

Brown already was considered a great receiver before joining the Eagles but has taken his play to the next level. He has racked up just under 1,500 receiving yards in each of the last two seasons and now is considered one of the best receivers in football.

He's currently under contract through the 2026 season, but the two sides reportedly have discussed a deal that would keep him with the franchise longer, according to Eagles insider Howard Eskin on the 94WIP Morning Show.

"I have kind of heard different things that — whether it is preliminary discussions — they are thinking about a new contract for A.J. Brown," Eskin said. "Not trading A.J. Brown, they're thinking about an extension for A.J. Brown...They've already started some conversation with A.J. Brown's agent about an extension."

Brown has been in the news lately as there has been some speculation that teams have called the Eagles regarding a possible trade. Philadelphia has shut down trade requests and it sounds like it has no interest in letting Brown go anywhere in the near future.

While no deal is done at this point, it's certainly a positive sign that the two sides have at least started to discuss a new contract.

Eagles post-NFL draft depth chart: Secondary filled out, LB remains unpredictable

PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA - JANUARY 29: C.J. Gardner-Johnson #23 and Reed Blankenship #32 of the Philadelphia Eagles celebrate a play against the San Francisco 49ers during the third quarter in the NFC Championship Game at Lincoln Financial Field on January 29, 2023 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (Photo by Tim Nwachukwu/Getty Images)

The Philadelphia Eagles entered the offseason with a succession plan to stabilize a roster transitioning into its next generation of core players. An organization seeking its second Super Bowl title further positioned itself as a contender by being aggressive in free agency, and the nine rookies the Eagles acquired in a trade-happy draft helped fill most of the holes remaining, especially in the secondary.

The Eagles now have 83 players who will eventually be under contract, which means they have room to sign seven undrafted free agents before hitting their offseason roster limit. Plenty can change between now and the beginning of training camp. But here’s what Philadelphia’s roster looks like exiting the draft. (Rookies are italicized.)

Quarterback

Projected starter:  Jalen Hurts

Backup:  Kenny Pickett

Others:  Tanner McKee , Will Grier

The most impactful thing the Eagles did for Hurts during the draft was sign A.J. Brown to a three-year, $96 million extension. Brown and DeVonta Smith have both had multiple 1,000-yard seasons since the Eagles first traded for Brown in 2022, and Hurts could be throwing to one of the NFL ’s best duos for at least the next five seasons. Think he’s happy? Hurts attended a news conference Tuesday in which Brown addressed his new contract.

Running back

Projected starter:  Saquon Barkley

Backup:  Kenneth Gainwell , Will Shipley

Practice squad battle: Tyrion Davis-Price, Lew Nichols II

The Shipley pick was my “ biggest questio n mark ” of the Eagles’ draft. There’s still logic to the selection. Gainwell’s contract expires after the 2024 season, and there was an apparent lack of interior linemen at that level of the draft. Shipley was a former five-star recruit who, after starting three years at Clemson, is projected to be handy as an all-around back. Should something befall Barkley, who’s missed eight regular-season games since returning from a 2020 ACL tear, the Eagles should have two reliable backs available.

Wide receiver

Projected starters:  A.J. Brown , DeVonta Smith, Parris Campbell

Backups: DeVante Parker , Ainias Smith , Johnny Wilson

Practice squad battle: Britain Covey, Austin Watkins Jr. , Jacob Harris , Joseph Ngata , Shaquan Davis

The Eagles are top-heavy at wide receiver in the most enviable way. They needed depth at the position and a reliable No. 3 target who would demand more attention from defenses. Ainias Smith is an intriguing addition. He’s smaller (5-foot-9, 190 pounds), but versatile (lined up in the slot, outside and in the backfield) and successful on special teams (two career punt return touchdowns). The Eagles had enough security at the position to take a flier on Wilson, who, at 6-6, 231 pounds, supplies them with someone with a considerable size advantage but will need development to capitalize on his frame.

eagles tour schedule 2022

Projected starter:  Dallas Goedert

Backups:  Albert Okwuegbunam, C.J. Uzomah , Grant Calcaterra

Practice squad battle:   E.J. Jenkins , Noah Togiai

Goedert is the NFL’s fifth-highest-paid tight end at $14.25 million per year, according to Over the Cap. He’s performed to the caliber of his contract when healthy, and the Eagles, who had little production from the position in 2023 when Goedert missed three games with a fractured forearm, decided the depth they added in free agency was sufficient. Okwuegbunam, who signed a one-year extension, gets a full offseason to acclimate after general manager Howie Roseman acquired him from the Denver Broncos in a training camp trade last year.

Offensive tackle

Projected starters: Jordan Mailata (left tackle), Lane Johnson (right tackle)

Backups:  Mekhi Becton , Tyler Steen

Practice squad battle: Brett Toth , Darian Kinnard , Fred Johnson , Le’Raven Clark

There were plenty of tackles available in the draft for the Eagles to have secured a successor for Johnson, who’s entering his age-34 season but is under contract through 2026. Six offensive tackles were taken before the Eagles spent the No. 22 overall pick on cornerback Quinyon Mitchell . Eight total tackles were taken in the first round. It’ll be considered a lost opportunity if Johnson doesn’t play through at least 2025.

Projected starter: Landon Dickerson (left guard), Tyler Steen (right guard)

Backups:  Matt Hennessy , Trevor Keegan , Dylan McMahon

Practice squad battle: Jason Poe

The Eagles entered the offseason with no clear starter at right guard. They still don’t have a clear starter at right guard. It’s now their biggest position battle of the summer. They spent two late-round picks on interior linemen who’ll compete for the job along with Steen and Hennessy. The Eagles liked that Keegan and McMahon were both team captains. Roseman said Keegan, who started all 15 games at left guard for Michigan’s national championship team, “can play with power.” And he said McMahon, who played 49 career games at right guard, left guard and center for NC State, is an “elite athlete” who logged a 4.33 short shuttle and 7.26 three-cone at the NFL combine at 6-3, 299 pounds.

Eagles NFL Draft takeaways: Defensive needs addressed, RG remains question mark

Projected starter:  Cam Jurgens

Backups:  Matt Hennessy, Dylan McMahon

The Eagles have all but officially named Jurgens their starting center in 2024. He’ll succeed Jason Kelce . Staffers already moved Jurgens into Kelce’s old locker. They still needed to consider depth. Jurgens missed six games last season with a foot injury. Hennessy started in 22 games at center in three seasons with the Atlanta Falcons . McMahon also became NC State’s primary center because the starter suffered a season-ending injury in 2022. His quickness and mobility in a multiple-run scheme should translate in Philadelphia.

Projected starters:  Bryce Huff , Josh Sweat

Backups: Brandon Graham , Nolan Smith Jr. , Jalyx Hunt

Practice squad battle: Julian Okwara , Tarron Jackson , Terrell Lewis

The Eagles needed to add depth at edge rusher with Sweat entering the final year of his contract and Graham signing a one-year deal to secure his “ farewell tour .” Philadelphia seized the opportunity to take on a project in Hunt, who could yield considerable upside with development. He’s a former Cornell safety who moved to edge rusher at Houston Christian. Roseman said “he’s got freaky tools” at 6-3, 252 pounds. No, the Eagles didn’t need him. But “these guys are hard to find,” Roseman said.

Defensive tackle

Projected starters:  Jalen Carter , Jordan Davis

Backups:  Milton Williams , Marlon Tuipulotu , Moro Ojomo

Practice squad battle: PJ Mustipher , Thomas Booker

This is the first draft since 2020 where the Eagles didn’t pick a defensive tackle. Of course, that’s mostly because two of their previous three first-round picks (Carter, 2023; Davis, 2022) are expected to start in 2024. For all the necessary preparation that goes into a draft, it’s still somewhat of a crap shoot. Drafting well means teams don’t have to waste picks on needs that should’ve already been addressed. Will Carter and Davis secure their leading roles and stabilize the defensive front?

Projected starters:  Devin White , Nakobe Dean

Backups:  Oren Burks , Zack Baun ,  Jeremiah Trotter Jr.

Practice squad battle: Ben VanSumeren , Brandon Smith , Patrick Johnson

We underlined Trotter as a possibility during the pre-draft process, and, again, his addition is far more sensible than just him being a legacy pick. Roseman insisted the Eagles stuck to their board and “can’t make up a grade on any player just because we like them.” This is the most unpredictable position group on the roster. Dean hit injured reserve twice in 2023. White signed a one-year deal after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers benched him during a contract year. Burks was a reliable backup for the San Francisco 49ers , and Baun still hasn’t found his fit in an NFL scheme. Of the draftees who need development, Trotter has the clearest path to significant playing time.

Projected starters:  Darius Slay,  Quinyon Mitchell

Backups:  James Bradberry, Eli Ricks , Avonte Maddox , Isaiah Rodgers , Kelee Ringo ,  Cooper DeJean

Practice squad battle: Josh Jobe , Mario Goodrich , Mekhi Garner , Tyler Hall , Zech McPhearson

The Eagles believe they’ve drafted their cornerback of at least the next half-decade in Mitchell. He has the skill set to beat Bradberry in a training camp battle for a starting job, but the Eagles may decide to still hold on to a veteran Roseman has often supported verbally this offseason. Will they? Injuries forced the Eagles to field 10 different starting configurations in the secondary in 2023. They’ll want depth. They’ll also want to give defensive coordinator Vic Fangio options. Mitchell can play inside and outside, and the Eagles could use the rookie to shadow No. 1 receivers while deploying Bradberry along the outside with Slay.

go-deeper

2024 NFL Draft’s best scheme fits: Caleb Williams, Quinyon Mitchell, and more

Projected starters:  C.J. Gardner-Johnson , Reed Blankenship

Backups:  Sydney Brown ,   Avonte Maddox, Cooper DeJean

Practice squad battle: Tristin McCollum

How much can the Eagles stretch versatility, especially in a rookie? They must now decide how much they intend to deploy DeJean at safety, cornerback or both. They gave DeJean a first-round grade. So, it’s worth considering the plan they have to develop him. Will they begin the process of transforming him into a safety? Is that best for his development if they intend to play him at cornerback eventually? Can DeJean handle learning two positions in a new playbook while also adjusting to the NFL?

Specialists

Projected starters: Jake Elliott (kicker), Braden Mann (punter), Rick Lovato (long snapper)

Michael Clay’s unit ranked No. 1 in special teams defense-adjusted value over average last season. Elliott, Mann and Lovato all signed contract extensions. Clay and company now must decide how they’ll manage the NFL’s newest kickoff rules . The Eagles have plenty of options for return specialists after drafting DeJean, Shipley and Ainias Smith. How many of them do they intend to utilize? Is there a roster spot available for Covey?

What to know about Philadelphia Eagles' NFL offseason: Key dates, schedule release, more

eagles tour schedule 2022

The Eagles have had a busy offseason. They signed three key players when free agency opened in running back Saquon Barkley , edge rusher Bryce Huff and safety Chauncey Gardner-Johnson . They also traded for backup quarterback Kenny Pickett, a 2022 first-round pick of the Steelers, while trading away edge rusher Haason Reddick, who led the team in sacks the last two seasons.

In addition, franchise cornerstones Jason Kelce , a center, and Fletcher Cox, a defensive tackle, retired , leaving the Eagles a void to fill with younger and mostly unproven players. The Eagles did also sign some key players to lucrative extensions in wide receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith , offensive linemen Jordan Mailata and Landon Dickerson, and kicker Jake Elliott.

The Eagles then picked nine players in the 2024 NFL draft, beginning with a pair of cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean in the first two rounds, respectively. It was the first time the Eagles drafted a cornerback in the first round since 2002.

Now, their attention turns toward offseason key dates, camps, the schedule release and more. Here's what you need to know about the Eagles' offseason and what's next.

When will Eagles introduce draft picks?

The Eagles will formally introduce the draft picks, including surprise third-round pick Jalyx Hunt , an edge rusher, at a news conference on Friday, the first day of the Eagles' rookie minicamp. The Eagles already introduced Mitchell and DeJean last weekend. Mitchell said coming from a non-Power 5 conference school won't prevent him from being ready to play right away.

All things Eagles: Latest Philadelphia Eagles news, schedule, roster, stats, injury updates and more.

DeJean, meanwhile, addressed whether he'll play outside at cornerback or nickel or even safety.

When is the Eagles' schedule release for 2024?

It is believed that the NFL will release the 2024 schedule on May 8 or May 9. We know the Eagles' opponents already, and that the Eagles will open the season in Brazil against the Green Bay Packers on Sept. 6. We don't know the dates of the other games just yet.

Eagles' opponents in 2024 NFL schedule

Home and away: Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants and Washington Commanders.

Home: Green Bay (in Brazil), Atlanta, Carolina, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Jacksonville.

Away: Tampa Bay, New Orleans, Los Angeles Rams, Cincinnati, Baltimore.

When is Eagles rookie camp?

The Eagles will host their rookie minicamp for NFL draft picks this weekend, May 3-5. The nine picks, along with their undrafted free agent signings and invited tryouts, will take part in practice sessions.

What is the Eagles' offseason practice schedule?

The Eagles reported April 15 for the start of strength and conditioning drills. Their OTA practices are scheduled for May 20, May 22-23, May 28, May 30-31.

All of those workouts are voluntary. The mandatory minicamp will be held June 4-6. This is the first mandatory minicamp held under Nick Sirianni since he became coach in 2021.

When do the Eagles start training camp?

The Eagles typically start camp the final week of July at their practice facility. The dates should be released sometime in June.

When will Eagles make 53-man roster cuts?

It is believed those will be take place around August 28.

One key offseason aspect is hurling itself towards us over the coming weeks, as well, and that's the NFL's schedule release. We already know the Eagles' 2024 opponents, but when and where they play the opposition is far more valuable then simply knowing who they play.

So, let's not waste any more time and go over everything we currently know about the Eagles' 2024 schedule, and more.

Eagles' Schedule Release Date

The NFL teased during the draft that schedules will be released in May, although it didn't give us an exact date. Based off the last couple of years, however, it should come out around the middle of May, as it was released on May 12 in 2022 and May 11 in 2023.

Once that comes out, we will update this with the Eagles' exact schedule.

Home and Away Opponents

Games played at Lincoln Financial Field:  New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, Washington Commanders, Carolina Panthers, Cleveland Browns, Atlanta Falcons, Pittsburgh Steelers, Green Bay Packers, Jacksonville Jaguars

Away games:  New York Giants, Dallas Cowboys, Washington Commanders, Baltimore Ravens, New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cincinnati Bengals, Los Angeles Rams

Biggest Games on the Vikings' 2024 Schedule

Every divisional game:  Any NFC East team is always a tough matchup for the Eagles because they're THE team to beat, so everyone brings their 'A' game. Boo Cowboys.

Eagles vs. Buccaneers: Holy PTSD from last season. After getting blown out by the Bucs in Round 1 of the playoffs, let's hope the Eagles are hungry enough to let them know who the better team really is.

Eagles vs. Baltimore: The Ravens fell a game short of making the Super Bowl last year. They're going to be a team the Eagles need to beat this year.

Eagles vs. Packers: I had to throw this matchup in here because it kicks off Week 1.. in BRAZIL.

Predicting Primetime Matchups and Week 1/Week 18 Opponents

Which games will be primetime viewing.

Including Thursday night, the Black Friday game, Thanksgiving/Christmas, Sunday night, and Monday Night Football my guess is the Eagles get at least five primetime slots.

Based on the better-looking teams heading into the 2024 season, those primetime opponents will likely be the Baltimore Ravens, Dallas Cowboys, Cincinnati Bengals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Cleveland Browns.

Who are the Week 1 and Week 18 opponents?

Unlike many teams, the Eagles already know their Week 1 opponent and that's the Green Bay Packers since they're playing internationally in Brazil. The NFL loves scheduling division rivals toward the end of the year, so I'm going to say the Commanders are the Week 18 opponent.

Strength of Schedule (based off Vegas win totals, not 2023 record)

Warren Sharp of Sharp Football Analysis does this cool thing every year where he ranks teams' strength of schedule based off Vegas' projected win totals for the upcoming season. He doesn't base it off the standard last-year's-record model and it makes a lot more sense, because of all the change teams go through during the offseason.

At the time of this publication, he hasn't updated it to reflect Vegas' updated, post-draft totals and I'll update this once the information becomes available. Regardless, Sharp has the Eagles' SOS as the ninth-easiest. The Steelers, Patriots, Browns, and Ravens have the toughest schedules this year, as you can see below:

Revenge Games on the Eagles' 2024 schedule

  • Playoff PTSD vs. Tampa:  The Eagles lost on the road to Tampa in the playoffs which capped off their disastrous 2023 season. That embarrassing loss should only give them a reason to win.
  • Saquon Barkley plays the Giants twice:  Barkley joined his former rival, and now he has to beat the team that stayed true to him not once, but twice. Fans are going to go wild for this.
  • Doug Pederson out to get Philly: The Eagles haven’t lost to the Jags since 2006 and they're going to try to keep it that way against Philly's former head coach when he comes to the Linc.

5 Must-watch Matchups

  • Kellen Moore vs. Cowboys:  The former Cowboys' offensive coordinator is now on the good side. He could hold the key to sweeping Dallas this season.
  • Eagles' secondary vs. CeeDee Lamb AND Ja'Marr Chase. :  Oh man it's going to be fun to watch the Eagles' new and improved secondary keep CeeDee Lamb AND Ja'Marr Chase locked down this season.
  • Russell Wilson vs. Jalen Carter, Bryce Huff:  Russell Wilson in Pittsburgh will be interesting to watch. However, he's going to feel the pressure from the Eagles' defense. We'll be rooting for a sack. And yay for the two PA teams battling it out.
  • Commanders new team vs. Eagles:  Speaking of quarterbacks, the Commanders drafted Jayden Daniels No. 2 overall. His "welcome to the NFL moment" might come against the Birds.
  •  Saquon Barkley vs. Giants run defense: Have to throw Barkley in here again because it's going to be a blood bath each time the Eagles face New York. My hope is Barkley doesn't hold back and logs his best game both times.

Horses for Courses: Expect international shootout at THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson

Horses for Courses

Change Text Size

May begins with an ol’ fashion wild west shootout with THE CJ CUP Byron Nelson in the Dallas suburb of McKinney, Texas.

Since 1968, Byron Nelson has been synonymous with this event held in the Dallas area. After recent stops at TPC Four Seasons and Trinity Forest, TPC Craig Ranch took over hosting duties starting with the 2021 tournament.

Opened in 2004, the Tom Weiskopf design, like most things in Texas, is bigger than most tracks. Playing to 7,414 yards, the par-71 layout, changed from par-72 for the 2023 edition, provides plenty of room to work the golf ball with and against the wind that blows in this part of the world.

With all that room, the best players in the world have little trouble scoring on this layout. K.H. Lee (+5000) won the first two editions at TPC Craig Ranch and set the tournament scoring record each time. Posting 25-under and winning by three, the Korean picked up his first victory on the PGA TOUR in the 2021 edition. Successfully defending his title in 2022, he went one shot better, 26-under. Squaring only six bogeys against 53 birdies and two eagles, he finally ran out of gas in 2023. Signing for four more rounds of 70 or better and running his total to 12 straight, his 11-under-par total of 273 was good for a tie for 50 th . Yep, 11-under-par did NOT finish in the top 50 last year! Go lower!

Strokes Gained: Approach the Green

Players listed are in the field this week; 2024 season stats.

When the wind blows – and it will blow – the players who can control the golf ball will have the advantage this week. The Bentgrass green complexes are almost 6,800 square feet, on average, and provide massive targets that most will hit repeatedly. Flighting wedges and holding shots into the proper quadrants will provide more realistic scoring chances than having approach putts from outside 40 feet.

Jason Day (+2000) , the third choice at BetMGM Sportsbook, posted four rounds in the 60s last year to take home his second trophy in a Byron Nelson event. Winning for the first time on TOUR at TPC Four Seasons in 2011 at 22, the 35-year-old opened with 64 and closed with 62 last year to win on 23-under, the highest winning total from the three editions. With the average winning score registering at 24-under and the highest total to make the cut at 4-under, scores in the 70s this week will likely ensure an early checkout. The Australian posted 70-69 here in 2021, 5-under-par, and went home early. In the 2022 edition, he posted three rounds in the 60s, but a 73 in Round 3 knocked him to 13-under and T53. Yep, 13-under did NOT crack the top 50.

Rounds in the 60s

Dallas native Jordan Spieth (+1600), the betting favorite this week, will look to build on his two excellent performances at TPC Craig Ranch. Appearing in the inaugural edition in 2021, the former Texas Longhorn shared the first-round lead on 63 but posted rounds of 70 and 71 to finish T9. Playing in the final group the following year, his final round 67 could not catch Lee to force a playoff. Posting 43-under in two visits, he has circled 48 birdies and four eagles.

Putting: Birdie or Better Conversion Percentage

Bentgrass greens, the first time in use this season on TOUR outside Augusta National, will only run at 11.5 feet on the Stimpmeter (wind), a perfect speed for holing putts. Paying off the approaches for birdies or saving pars and not losing ground is important in keeping up in a shootout. Over three events at TPC Craig Ranch, the cut has been 4-under or BETTER, and single digits under par after 72 holes did not register a spot inside the TOP 60. The 2022 event produced the most birdies and eagles on TOUR.

Si Woo Kim (+1800) trails Spieth as second choice at the top of the BetMGM odds board. Trying to emulate his countryman’s effort of coming from behind to win the 2022 edition, Kim’s final round 63 last year could not match Day’s 62. Making his fourth appearance in Dallas, the four-time winner on TOUR has never posted a round above par in 10 chances.

Oddsmaker’s extras

Seamus Power (+5000): Making his fourth consecutive start, the Irishman will look to add to his success outside Dallas. Cashing T19 or better on all three visits, he’s the only player in that exclusive club. Posting 70 once in 12 rounds, the other 11 loops were all in the 60s.

Daniel Berger (+10000): The only other player in the field with a podium result, T3 in 2021, the Florida man returns to an event where he’s produced T23 or better in three visits on three different tracks. Playing his way back into form, Dallas has always provided a spark. Posting 64 in 2021 is his best of four rounds in the 60s.

Joseph Bramlett (+10000): Opening with 64 in 2021, the Stanford man began a streak of 12 straight rounds of 70 or better. Posting 48-under par over three visits, he returned to the top 20 (T19) last season after four more rounds in the 60s.

Ryan Palmer (+12500): The Colleyville, Texas, resident joins Spieth and K.H. Lee as the only players to have multiple top-10 paydays in the first three events. After blowing a tire in 2021 with a final round 75, the Colonial Country Club member returned in 2022 to share the 36-hole lead before cashing T5. The 2023 edition saw him improve as he shared the 54-hole lead before a final round 68 caused him to slip to T8. Highlighted by 62 in 2022, 10 of 12 career rounds are 70 or better.

C.T. Pan (+10000): Making his debut for the 2023 edition, he posted four rounds in the 60s, including a career-best 62 on Sunday to secure solo fourth.

Zecheng “Marty” Dou (+25000): Entered this week as sponsor’s exemption, the Dallas resident opened with 63 and posted 64 in Round 3 to share the 54-hole lead last year. Finishing with 67, he dropped to T5, his best payday on TOUR. Everybody needs a long shot!
