Silversea: World Cruise 2023 on board Silver Shadow

To launch its Extraordinary 2023 World Cruise, Silversea Presents “South Side Story: All The World’s A Stage”

When Silversea announced the most unique itinerary ever sailed on a World Cruise, the luxury cruise line pulled out all the stops.  In a spectacular 27-minute production, Fernando Barroso de Oliveira, in his role as Silversea’s President’s Ambassador to The Venetian Society, the line’s loyalty program, literally took his audience around the world. The cinematic production was a triumph involving over 50 professionals working for 5 weeks around the clock.  The actual filming took an entire week.  18 different sets culled down from over 3000 options were displayed behind the charming Fernando.  His wardrobe for the production was so extensive that he traveled with no fewer than 7 suitcases. More than 8 hours of footage was edited down to the final version: An extraordinarily detailed look at what Silversea guests will experience once they set sail on the 139-day voyage.

Silversea Hosts Premiere of 2023 World Cruise with Production

  • February 10, 2021

silversea 2023 world cruise itinerary

Silversea Cruises today hosted an exclusive virtual premiere for selected guests, presenting its new World Cruise 2023, entitled South Side Story – All the World’s A Stage.

The iremiere comprised a pre-produced show. which represents Silversea’s largest-ever creative production, hosted by Fernando Barroso de Oliveira, Silversea’s President’s Ambassador to the Venetian Society, and a Q&A session with Roberto Martinoli, President & CEO, and Barbara Muckermann, Chief Marketing Officer. The event replaced the usual onboard launch and marked the opening of an exclusive pre-sale to past and future world-cruising guests.

“We are continuously seeking innovative ways to nurture our strong relationships with our guests, Silversea’s extended family, as we await the moment in which we can be reunited aboard our ships once more,” says Roberto Martinoli. “As is the case on board our ships, we are committed to delivering special moments that exceed our guests’ expectations and our investment in our World Cruise 2023 premiere encapsulates this commitment. I am delighted to be able to share our pioneering new product with our valued guests in such an inspiring way and I hope it goes some way in conveying the incredible range of experiences that are in store.”

Silversea’s 2023 world cruise, South Side Story, will depart Sydney on January 9, 2023, arriving in Fort Lauderdale on May 28. Over 139 nights, the Silver Shadow will visit five continents with 66 destinations, taking in 34 countries. A total of 40 destinations have not been visited on Silversea’s recent World Cruise itineraries. Guests will enjoy 20 overnight calls in 17 cities, as well as 10 custom events, five of which will be exclusive to world-cruising guests.

Replicating the production of a cinematic film, Fernando’s show featured 50 talented professionals.

Five weeks in the making, the immersive production was filmed over an entire week. It included 18 different sets, individually selected over the course of three weeks from over 3,000 options, each of which comprised various props that were displayed in front of a changing 452 sq. ft. LED backdrop. Fernando travelled with seven suitcases to accommodate his array of costumes, according to the company. The team recorded more than eight hours of footage, files totaling 800TB, before crafting a 27-minute narrative that was designed to transport guests into featured destinations.

“Together with our close-knit world-cruising guests, I take great delight in celebrating the annual launch of our new World Cruises,” noted Fernando Barroso de Oliveira, Silversea’s President’s Ambassador to the Venetian Society. “While we await the moment in which we can be reunited at sea once more, I am thrilled to have been involved with this innovative project to open an exclusive pre-sale on our pioneering World Cruise 2023, ‘South Side Story.’ With a focus on the breathtaking landscapes of the Southern Hemisphere, our guests will enjoy new, immersive experiences as they befriend like-minded travelers aboard our recently refurbished Silver Shadow.”

Hotel Director Flavio Gioia, Cruise Director Vicki Van Tassel, Delegate to the Venetian Society Norman Rafelson, and the rest of our amazing crew are committed to providing exceptional service to our guests – and I look forward to greeting travellers personally, too,” Muckermann said.

The World Cruise 2023 will arrive in Fort Lauderdale on 28 May 2023. The itinerary will present an extraordinary mix of destinations, from the remote wonders of Papua New Guinea, Mauritius, Réunion Island, and Cape Verde to iconic regions and cities – often unlocked on overnight calls (20 in total), including 10 days spent exploring Tasmania and New Zealand, three days in Myanmar, and a full week in South Africa. silversea 2023 world cruise itinerary

Calling in 690 destinations in 125 countries, the leading ultra-luxury line’s new itineraries for 2023/2024 include new grand voyages to Africa & Arabia and the Mediterranean

(Monaco – August 11, 2021) Responding to strong demand for extended voyages to far-flung destinations, Silversea Cruises today opened general sales on over 280 new voyages for 2023/2024, including two new grand voyages to Africa & the Arabian Peninsula and the Mediterranean. Silversea will expand its global coverage by deploying its 10 ships to over 690 destinations in 125 countries – a record for the leading ultra-luxury cruise line, which sails to over 900 global destinations in total.

OVER 280 VOYAGES, 690 DESTINATIONS, 125 COUNTRIES

Setting sail from March 2023 to May 2024, Silversea’s new voyage collection will include over 60 maiden calls, an increased 197 overnight calls, and over 60 hand-picked combination voyages for extended exploration, as well as the following innovations:

  • Brand new itineraries in Africa and the Indian Ocean , including in-depth explorations of the Red Sea. Guests will discover the region’s natural and archeological heritage during new itineraries to the Arabian Peninsula for extended stays in the Persian Gulf. On all-new South Africa and Namibia voyages, travellers will have the chance to witness the region’s Big Five—lions, leopards, rhinoceros, elephants, and buffalo—on visits to safari reserves. As well as the iconic Skeleton Coast, guests will explore the unique wildlife and geology of the Vanilla Islands.
  • New itineraries in Northern Europe , including Silversea’s first-ever expedition voyages in the Baltic Sea, building on the cruise line’s customary offering in the Norwegian Fjords, the Baltic, Iceland, the British Isles and the Atlantic Coast. Travellers will journey to off-the-beaten-path destinations along the Finnish coast, while new Norwegian Fjord departures will offer the chance to see autumnal foliage and the Northern Lights. Expeditions to the British Isles will unlock new, remote destinations, such as the Farne Islands and Lindisfarne Island in the Scottish Isles.
  • Greater variety in Alaska , with brand new combinable itineraries that will offer extended adventure—building on the cruise line’s seven-day itineraries aboard Silver Muse . Maiden calls to Icy Bay and Valdez will attract well-travelled guests, offering the chance to witness the magnificent Columbia Glacier.
  • More departures in Canada and New England , including voyages setting sail in the summer months for the first time in Silversea’s history, adding to the cruise line’s established itineraries, which will now include an overnight call in Boston, Massachusetts.

In a new video for the cruise line’s guests, Conrad Combrink—Silversea’s Senior Vice President of Expeditions, Turnaround Operations and Destination Management—shares insight on the new 2023/2024 itinerary collection’s highlights:

“Whether we’re retracing our footsteps along familiar paths or setting off to unchartered territories, there is always something new to discover. […] Silversea is proud to offer first-time expedition itineraries in the Arabian Peninsula, giving our guests the opportunity to visit off-the-beaten-path places, like the Khasab Peninsula in Oman, Djibouti on the Horn of Africa, or exciting destinations like Al Ula and the Farasan Islands in Saudi Arabia. Our new East Africa Islands expedition cruise will bring us to the wildlife-rich Aldabra Atoll in the Seychelles and the Comoro Islands—a maiden call for us. We will also set sail on our first-ever grand voyage in Africa and Arabia in 2024, with fascinating stops at places like Zanzibar, Muscat, and Richard’s Bay. In Northern Europe, we will offer in-depth expeditions in the Baltic Region for the first time. […] For North America, we have designed all-new Alaska itineraries to destinations like Icy Bay and Valdez, and even the fast-moving (for a glacier) Columbia Glacier. […] And finally, we return to our roots with a grand voyage in the Mediterranean that offers our most extensive exploration of the region, over an immersive 65-day journey.”

TWO NEW GRAND VOYAGES

Guests in search of extended, immersive travel will be attracted to Silversea’s two new grand voyages, which will set sail in 2023 and 2024 respectively, enriching the cruise line’s existing range of grand voyages :

• AFRICA & ARABIA GRAND VOYAGE 2024

Silversea’s first-ever grand voyage to Africa and Arabia will combine new-world modernity with fascinating glimpses into the region’s storied past. Embarking Silver Spirit in Cape Town on January 27, 2024, Silversea’s guests will travel deep into 28 destinations over 62 days, charting their way through Namibia, South Africa, Madagascar, Réunion, Mauritius, Seychelles, Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Jordan, and Egypt, before concluding their voyage in Greece on March 29. Calls in vibrant, iconic cities will complement maiden calls in remote destinations, such as Dhiba. From Dhiba, guests will discover the ancient region of Al Ula, including Mada’in Saleh—the first site in Saudi Arabia to earn UNESCO recognition. Here, travellers will witness preserved tombs, historic dwellings, and breathtaking monuments—both natural and human-made—that hold 200,000 years of largely unexplored human history. As well as UNESCO World Heritage sites, travellers will enjoy immersive cultural experiences, from the shamanistic ceremonies of the Sangoma spiritual healers in Durban to the mesmerising dance rituals of the San of the Kalahari Desert. Guests will witness the incredible variety of wildlife in South Africa, the Seychelles, and Madagascar, as well as the vast landscapes of the Namibian and Saharan deserts. Extended stays in Walvis Bay, Durban, Richards Bay, Antsiranana, Muscat, Abu Dhabi, Dhiba, and Safaga will enable travellers to explore deeper.

• THE MEDITERRANEAN GRAND VOYAGE 2023

New ship Silver Moon will embark upon a grand voyage in the Mediterranean , departing Lisbon on October 6, 2023, and offering travellers the most extensive exploration of the region in the cruise line’s history. Guests will journey to 52 destinations over 65 days, experiencing 16 countries, from Portugal to Greece, with an in-depth focus on the Eastern Mediterranean, including the Holy Land and Egypt, with overnight calls in Alexandria, Nazareth, and—for the first time on a grand voyage—Jerusalem, among others. Guests will explore the stimulating cultures and ancient histories of Portugal, Spain, Gibraltar, Morocco, France, Monaco, Italy, Malta, Croatia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Greece, Turkey, Egypt, Israel, and Cyprus. Thanks to Silversea’s new SALT programme, which launched in June aboard Silver Moon , guests will take a deep dive into the region’s distinctive food and drink cultures, with insightful experiences aboard and ashore. Bespoke experiences, tailor-made by Silversea’s destination experts, will complete a holistic discovery of the Mediterranean. Many special events and onboard enrichments will enhance the offering further.

ALL-INCLUSIVE LUXURY

With private executive transfers included as standard on all voyages in the collection, Silversea has enhanced its all-inclusive offering, which is already among the most comprehensive at sea. The cruise line’s ships are among the most spacious at sea, featuring ocean-view suites, the personalised service of butlers, and sumptuous cuisine served in multiple restaurants. Enhancing the cruise experience are such all-inclusive amenities as pre- and post-cruise hotel night/s, depending on Silversea’s air program schedule; luggage handling; complimentary premium wines and spirits, speciality coffees, bottled water, juices and soft drinks served throughout the ships; in-suite bars, stocked with guests' preferences; a complimentary in-suite, 24-hour dining service; onboard gratuities; and unlimited, complimentary Wi-Fi. How to Choose Your Cruise: Silversea’s Grand Voyages

  • Pole-to-pole
  • South America
  • Mediterranean
  • New Zealand

The desire to travel dates to the dawn of humankind, but then, it was for survival. For many of us today, it’s about pleasure. For seasoned travelers, time in destination is key to a successful trip.

Silversea’s Grand Voyages focus on one region of the world at a time. It’s the opposite of the each-day-a-new-country approach to travel. Instead, travelers can probe more deeply into the region, experience more cultural immersion and discover its authentic soul.

Silversea has added two new Grand Voyages for 2025: The Grand Voyage Mediterranean and the Grand Voyage Northern Europe.

“We are very purposeful about our grand voyages,” says Justin Poulsen, Silversea’s Vice President of Itinerary Planning & Destination Development. “Grand Voyages need to be more than the sum of their parts. They must tell a story that builds upon itself.”

Silversea’s Grand Voyages, which are scheduled through 2025, focus on such places as the Arctic, the Indian Ocean, South Pacific, Asia, South America, Africa and Arabia, Northern Europe, the Mediterranean and a Pacific-focused voyage that travels from Tokyo to Sydney, Australia. Perhaps the most interesting of all is the Grand Pole to Pole, an expedition voyage, because it travels through seasons and hemispheres between Chile’s Puerto Williams to Antarctica to Svalbard’s Longyearbyen.

Whichever you choose, we promise you this: Travelers slip into another headspace as they relax into a world beyond the one they know.

What is a Grand Voyage?

world map

Longer than a typical cruise but more focused than a circumnavigation of the globe, a Grand Voyage narrows its boundaries to one part of the world and stays there long enough for guests to dig into the destination. These sailings typically center on a single continent, but at other times they include other regions and even stretch across continental divides. Grand Voyages brush broad geographic strokes but also manage to define the finer details of each cultural picture.

South America Grand Voyages , for example, tend to stick to South American countries but may also include the Central American nations and Caribbean islands bordering them.

The Grand Pacific Voyage draws a ring around Oceania, islands in the Pacific Ocean, then drags it toward Japan for a comprehensive sample of some of the region’s largest island nations.

On voyages of eight to 18 weeks, guests sail a comprehensive itinerary that will take them to globally recognized cities (visions of tango in Buenos Aires, Argentina; the minarets and spice markets of Casablanca, Morocco) as well as lesser-known spots on a map. The combination of big cities and secluded beaches gives Grand Voyage participants a more complex finish than a single place.

Here’s another thing: Grand Voyages are offered as both expeditions and classic cruises.

How does a Grand Voyage differ from a World Cruise?

silversea 2023 world cruise itinerary

Think of a Grand Voyage as a world cruise that sticks to one part of the world. World cruises are longer than Grand Voyages and cover more nautical miles and ground to showcase a broader variety of destinations. Many (but not all) World Cruises circumnavigate the Earth, meaning they sail all the way around in one pattern or another, often passing through the Panama Canal. Silversea’s World Cruises are offered once each year and tend to include one-off special events that are available only aboard each specific sailing.

A Grand Voyage also requires a commitment of a month or more, and guests spend that time within a smaller radius. In other words, they get to see the biblical sites of Israel in depth on a Grand Voyage in the Arabian Peninsula rather than a single stop on a broader itinerary.

Whether you hold a magnifying glass closer to a map or pull it away, the circumference is the same; each type of cruise requires a significant commitment of time, but the difference is in how — and where — the time is spent.

Unlike a world cruise, which is a one-off, typically offered once a year, several grand voyage destinations are offered each year, usually including numerous countries in the specified region.

What grand voyages have in common with a Silversea world cruise is perks that typically are offered only to guests on the latter. These include a private transfer from home to airport, an overnight pre-cruise stay at a hotel with a welcome gala event, complimentary laundry service and unlimited Wi-Fi. Silversea’s unique world cruise events also offer the ultimate in insider access in a variety of destinations.

Can’t stay away too long?

Grand Voyages, just like World Cruises, are available in shorter segments (typically 10 or 11 days) so you can choose a shorter part of a Grand Voyage. Where do you want to go?

Check out our options for grand voyages through 2025 (scroll down).

What Grand Voyages are on the schedule?

Although Grand Voyages are a separate category from world cruises, the length and logistics involved in sailing guests to dozens of ports in various countries for unique experiences still takes considerable time to plan and execute.

Silversea continues to innovate, adding new ports of call, experimenting with different routes, even introducing new itineraries within regions. In this way, grand voyages remain exclusive. Only a handful are organized and available each year, and they don’t visit every region of the world annually. I

“This is an itinerary where you don’t have to compromise,” says Justin Poulsen, Silversea’s Vice President of Itinerary Planning and Destination Development. “We will take you to all the iconic places but also add surprise and delight to the itinerary.”

silversea 2023 world cruise itinerary

That means combining popular destinations such as Venice, Dubrovnik, Istanbul and Naples with off-the-beaten-path locations — think Kotor, Montenegro, and Palamós, Spain — accessible only by small ships. The journey offers a comprehensive exploration of the cradle of Western civilization in luxury and with plenty of time to explore.

Positioned at the end of the summer season, the itinerary visits the Adriatic Coast, Greek Isles and Eastern Mediterranean as well as the Southern and Western Mediterranean. It begins in Venice and heads south with stops in modern-day Slovenia, Croatia and Montenegro, which once belonged to the powerful trading empire of the Republic of Venice .

silversea 2023 world cruise itinerary

It continues on to ancient destinations along the Greek coast and islands, stopping at Rhodes, Crete, Santorini, Patmos, Volos and the little-known gem Syros, which has quaint medieval villages and monasteries, and a fringe of beautiful beaches. Then it’s on to Istanbul with a cruise through the Dardanelles Strait, which separates Europe from the westernmost tip of Asia, and a land trip in Turkey to view the scenic landscape of Cappadocia by hot-air balloon.

From there, Silver Spirit heads back around to Sicily and Naples in southern Italy to explore the Southern Mediterranean, north to Rome, and along the Cote d’Azur with stops in Marseille, France, and Monaco. The final segment sails Spain’s Iberian Coast, with opportunities to explore Barcelona, Cartagena, Málaga, the landmark British cliff-top holding of Gibraltar on the tip of the Iberian Peninsula and Tangier, Morocco, before ending in Portugal.

Grand Voyage 2025: Grand North Atlantic & Northern Europe

silversea 2023 world cruise itinerary

The trip : On northern Europe’s grand voyage, the 83-day cruise on the Silver Shadow sails round trip from New York City from June 11 to September 2, 2025.

The itinerary : Silver Shadow travels to 55 ports and 16 countries and entities in six segments.

Highlights : For three centuries, the Vikings embarked on arduous journeys to Britain and Europe as well as Iceland and parts of Canada in the constant push toward new lands. Silversea’s ambitious Grand Voyage Northern Europe was added to track that history by retracing routes between Scandinavia, the European continent and the New World .

“The underlying theme is of migration and exploration and Viking history,” says Justin Poulsen, Silversea’s vice-president of Itinerary Planning and Destination Development. “You’re really going to follow in the footsteps of the Vikings.”

It’s also a deep dive into world-class fjords and some of the most remote areas of Scandinavia. The extensive journey ventures across Eastern Canada to the British Isles, the Baltic Sea, Norway and Iceland with extended stays in some ports to allow deeper explorations of destinations and experiences in nature.

From New York, the Silver Shadow heads north to Canada and then crosses the Atlantic Ocean, landing at Belfast, Northern Ireland. It continues along the coast to such cities as Dublin, Ireland, and Liverpool, England, and smaller destinations, such as the Isle of Man and the self-governed isle of Jersey.

It stops in Cardiff, Wales, where guests will be treated to a traditional choir music concert in a castle in the countryside. The itinerary heads to the coast of France, Belgium and the Netherlands before heading north to Sweden and Denmark, crossing the Baltic Sea with stops in Finland, Estonia and Latvia, then swinging back west and north to Norway.

silversea 2023 world cruise itinerary

More than a dozen stops in Norway underscore the country’s remote and remarkable coast, including sailing in two fjords — Geiranger and  Nærøyfjord   — that have been named UNESCO World Heritage sites for their natural beauty.

From there it’s on to Iceland and a return journey across the Atlantic with stops in Canada before returning to New York City.

“By the time you reach Newfoundland,” Poulsen says, “you’ve got the whole story of Viking history.”

Grand Voyage Australia 2025

silversea 2023 world cruise itinerary

The trip: The 47-day cruise on Silver Nova sails round-trip from Melbourne, Australia, from Oct. 14 to Nov. 30, 2025.

The itinerary: Silver Nova travels to 23 ports (including seven overnights) in a circumnavigation of Australia.

Highlights : This is an  Australian cruise  like no other because, instead of jumping off from Sydney to other parts of the globe, Grand Australia circles the continent and stops at ports that accentuate its ancient aboriginal roots, its past as a British penal colony, and its incredible beaches and natural wonders found only Down Under.

The cruise stops in all of the country’s six states and two territories in an intensive adventure to the largest island in Oceania, a vast region made up of New Zealand, Papua New Guinea as well as Melanesia, Micronesia and Polynesia, which includes the state of Hawaii. Each port highlights a place of historic, natural or cultural value and includes cities, such as Melbourne (the start and end point),  Sydney , with its landmark opera house and bridge, and Adelaide.

Smaller remote areas have their own stories to tell, like the 19th-century whaling town of Eden, where aboriginal hunters once used orcas to trap and kill humpbacks. The resort town of Broome in Western Australia serves up stunning beaches and pearl farms, and the town of Hobart at the southern tip of Tasmania, in the shadow of Kunanyi, or Mount Wellington, provides a gateway to the remote outdoors.

silversea 2023 world cruise itinerary

And there are islands to explore. Kangaroo Island in South Australia offers a glimpse of one of the most remote, unspoiled places in the country, and Fraser Island off Queensland reveals a one-of-a-kind landscape of sand dunes and tall rainforests.

On this journey, travelers will come face to face with the world’s smallest marsupial, the quokka, and the endangered Tasmanian devil. Destinations also include the Great Barrier Reef; Exmouth, Western Australia; Busselton, Western Australia; and Thursday Island, Far North Queensland.

Grand South Pacific Expedition

silversea 2023 world cruise itinerary

The trip: The 74-day cruise on the Silver Cloud sails from Perth, Australia, to Valparaíso, Chile, Aug. 20 to Nov, 2, 2025.

The itinerary: Silver Cloud travels to 58 ports and 11 countries (with seven overnights).

Highlights: This expedition heads to more than 50 remote and pristine places in the South Pacific. Prepare to be astonished by the obscure, including a stop at the volcanic ocean peaks in Papua New Guinea’s Vitu (also called Witu) Islands. Visitors to the largest, Garove, walk on the lush ring of land that is actually the rim of a volcano caldera; the island has a body of water at its center.

Other stops in the nation include Madang, a pretty town known for its rainforests, rugged mountains and epic snorkeling, and Rabaul, a veritable ghost town since falling ash from a volcanic eruption destroyed many buildings in 1994.

Then it’s on to Champagne Beach on Espiritu Santo, the westernmost island of Vanuatu, so named because waters around the white-sand beach “bubble” from volcanic vents below the surface; and Adamstown, the capital of Pitcairn Islands, where the descendants of the mutineers of the famed HMS Bounty and their Tahitian companions settled to build a new life in the late 18th century.

silversea 2023 world cruise itinerary

Today about 50 people continue to live in the place that’s more than 400 miles from the nearest populated land. Other itinerary stops include bird-rich volcanic Ambrym and Pentecost islands in the nation of Vanuatu; the stone monoliths (known as moai) of  Easter Island , or Rapa Nui, in Chile; Aitutaki Island and the coral atoll Palmerston in the Cook Islands; Robinson Crusoe Island in Chile; Neiafu in Tonga; Fiji islands; and the remote Kimberley Coast in Western Australia.

  • New itineraries in Northern Europe , including Silversea’s first-ever expedition voyages in the Baltic Sea, building on the cruise line’s customary offering in the Norwegian Fjords, the Baltic, Iceland, the British Isles, and the Atlantic Coast. Travelers will journey to off-the-beaten-path destinations along the Finnish coast, while new Norwegian Fjord departures will offer the chance to see autumnal foliage and the Northern Lights.
Maiden calls to Icy Bay and Valdez will attract well-traveled guests, offering the chance to witness the magnificent Columbia Glacier.
  • More departures in Canada and New England , including voyages setting sail in the summer months for the first time in Silversea’s history, adding to the cruise line’s established itineraries, which will now include an overnight call in Boston, Massachusetts.

“Whether we’re retracing our footsteps along familiar paths or setting off to unchartered territories, there is always something new to discover. […] Silversea is proud to offer first-time expedition itineraries in the Arabian Peninsula, allowing our guests to visit off-the-beaten-path places, like the Khasab Peninsula in Oman, Djibouti on the Horn of Africa, or exciting destinations like Al Ula and the Farasan Islands in Saudi Arabia. […] For North America, we have designed all-new Alaska itineraries to destinations like Icy Bay and Valdez and even the fast-moving (for a glacier) Columbia Glacier. […] And finally, we return to our roots with a grand voyage in the Mediterranean that offers our most extensive exploration of the region, over an immersive 65-day journey.”

Silversea Silver Moon

Silversea’s New Silver Moon

Two New Grand Voyages

Guests in search of extended, immersive travel will be attracted to Silversea’s two new grand voyages, which will set sail in 2023 and 2024 respectively, enriching the cruise line’s existing range of   grand voyages :

AFRICA & ARABIA GRAND VOYAGE 2024

Here, travelers will witness preserved tombs, historic dwellings, and breathtaking monuments—both natural and human-made—that hold 200,000 years of largely unexplored human history. As well as UNESCO World Heritage sites, travelers will enjoy immersive cultural experiences, from the shamanistic ceremonies of the Sangoma spiritual healers in Durban to the mesmerizing dance rituals of the San of the Kalahari Desert. Guests will witness the incredible variety of wildlife in South Africa, the Seychelles, and Madagascar, as well as the vast landscapes of the Namibian and Saharan deserts. Extended stays in Walvis Bay, Durban, Richards Bay, Antsiranana, Muscat, Abu Dhabi, Dhiba, and Safaga will enable travelers to explore deeper.

THE MEDITERRANEAN GRAND VOYAGE 2023

New ship  Silver Moon  will embark upon a   grand voyage in the Mediterranean , departing Lisbon on October 6, 2023, and offering travelers the most extensive exploration of the region in the cruise line’s history. Thanks to Silversea’s new SALT program, which launched in June aboard Silver Moon , guests will take a deep dive into the region’s distinctive food and drink cultures, with insightful experiences aboard and ashore. Bespoke experiences, tailor-made by Silversea’s destination experts, will complete a holistic discovery of the Mediterranean. Many special events and onboard enrichments will enhance the offering further.

6 Top Luxury Alaska Cruises for 2024 & Beyond

C ruising to Alaska on a small luxury ship affords a very different experience than sailing through The Great Land on a larger vessel. On a smaller luxury ship, you'll enjoy the expected perks like fewer passengers and more personalized service – but you'll also physically get closer to the boundless wilderness, abundant wildlife, icy blue glaciers and majestic snow-capped mountains that you've waited a lifetime to see.

While the fares to sail on such vessels are quite a bit higher than those of larger cruise providers, the all-inclusive (or mostly all-inclusive) prices typically include all-suite accommodations with balconies, all meals, alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, 24-hour room service, Wi-Fi access, gratuities, welcome bottles of sparkling wine, pillow selection, some shore excursions and butler service. Best of all, you won't feel like you're being nickel-and-dimed while on board. As a special touch, the attentive crew members may even learn your name and memorize your preferred pre-dinner cocktail.

Unlike many mainstream lines, most luxury Alaska cruises do not offer pre- and post-cruise tours to extend your adventure. However, you can plan these experiences on your own through third-party providers.

Alaska Tour & Travel has pre-cruise packages that include visits to Denali National Park & Preserve and the small, quirky Alaska towns of Homer and Talkeetna. You can also see a different side of Alaska via a train ride on the Alaska Railroad, take a national parks tour that includes Kenai Fjords National Park or head northbound to Fairbanks , one of the best places in the world to see the northern lights (if you visit during aurora season, from late August to late April). In addition, the company can plan a self-drive tour from Anchorage to Seward, which includes a stay at a wilderness lodge, helicopter flightseeing over Knik Glacier and guided tours in the parks.

The following luxury cruise lines will ensure you make the most of your voyage in Alaska – one of the most magical destinations on Earth.

Silversea Cruises

Silversea Cruises' small luxury ships are designed for adventurers interested in visiting a mix of Alaska's top ports and more rugged, off-the-beaten-track locales. Extended itineraries offer stops in less-visited destinations like the towns of Haines and Wrangell. On board, guests can expect a personalized experience that includes luxurious ocean-view suites with butler service, multiple gourmet dining options, complimentary alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, and attentive service with one of the highest crew-to-guest ratios in the industry.

Base fares for Silversea's 2024 and 2025 Alaska itineraries start at $3,250 per person. If you upgrade to Silversea 's door-to-door fare (which starts at $5,200 per person), you'll receive private chauffeur service from your home to the airport (and back home upon your return) and round-trip flights, with business class upgrades in some destinations.

Silversea also offers immersive pre- and post-cruise land experiences, departing from Seward, Alaska. Highlights include sightseeing flights over Denali National Park & Preserve or into bear country to see Alaska's magnificent grizzly bears. In Vancouver, travelers can take a flightseeing transfer to Victoria to tour the 55-acre Butchart Gardens or board the Rocky Mountaineer for a two-day train ride through the Canadian Rockies.

Silversea's Alaska itineraries extend from May to September, with voyages ranging between seven and 16 days. The line's newest and largest vessel, the 728-passenger Silver Nova , sails its inaugural Alaska season in 2024 along with two smaller ships, Silver Muse (596 guests) and Silver Shadow (392 guests). There are 35 Alaska voyages available in 2024. In 2025, luxury cruisers can hop aboard one of 45 scheduled voyages on either Silver Nova or the 596-guest Silver Moon .

For a seven-day itinerary, consider a sailing from Seward, Alaska, to Vancouver, British Columbia. This voyage cruises the Hubbard Glacier and the Inside Passage and stops in the Alaska towns of Juneau, Skagway, Sitka and Ketchikan. Complimentary excursions in Ketchikan include a tour of Saxman Native Village; a visit to Bonfire Bay Oyster Farm, featuring a sea-to-table oyster tasting; the Alaskan Cultural, Culinary & Lumberjack show; the Alaskan Lodge Adventure & Seafeast and a day as a fisherman aboard the Aleutian Ballard, as seen on Discovery Channel's "The Deadliest Catch." You can also opt for a Selected Shore Excursion (for an additional cost), such as mountain biking or a private fishing trip.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises

Regent Seven Seas Cruises' elegant Seven Seas Explorer sails the line's Alaska itineraries in 2024 and 2025. The lavish 746-guest ship was coined "The Most Luxurious Ship Ever Built" when it debuted in 2016; among its impressive features are the 3,875-square-foot Regent Suite and a high-end collection of art displayed throughout the ship, including works by Pablo Picasso.

Alaska voyages with Regent in 2024 and 2025 start at $4,799 per person. Upgraded 2-for-1 all-inclusive fares (starting at $5,499 per person) cover elegant all-balcony suite accommodations; round-trip airfare (business class on international flights); a one-night pre-cruise hotel package; free two- or three-night land programs; free unlimited shore excursions; free unlimited beverages (alcoholic and nonalcoholic); complimentary specialty dining; and prepaid gratuities. You'll also receive complimentary airport transfers, unlimited Wi-Fi access and valet laundry service.

Every suite style includes a private balcony, roomy closets and upscale finishes. Concierge Suites (and above) add cozy in-room amenities like cashmere blankets, perfect to bundle up in while you take in the scenery. Meanwhile, Penthouse Suites (and higher) include a private butler who can book excursions, make dinner and spa reservations, unpack your luggage, arrange for a private cocktail soiree in your suite and indulge any other special requests.

Between May and September 2024, Regent sails 22 Alaska voyages. There are 16 Alaska sailings scheduled for the same period in 2025. Itineraries range from seven to 14 nights. For plenty of scenic cruising days, consider a round-trip itinerary from Vancouver departing May 28, 2025. The cruise includes five relaxing days at sea, where you'll enjoy scenic cruising through the Inside Passage (twice), Hubbard Glacier (twice) and Endicott Arm Fjord. Ports of call in Alaska include Wrangell, Juneau , Skagway, Sitka, Seward, Icy Strait (Hoonah) and Ketchikan. You'll also have a full day in Victoria, British Columbia, before returning to Vancouver.

While in Wrangell, consider the Tongass Botanical Forest Walk excursion. Tongass National Forest is the largest national forest in the U.S., with towering old-growth trees and unique flora, fauna and ecosystems. While in the temperate rainforest with your naturalist guide, look for local wildlife like Sitka black-tailed deer, porcupines and birds of prey. Other complimentary excursions at this stop include a round of golf at Muskeg Meadows Golf Course; a canoe trip through Wrangell harbor and nearby islands, and a heritage tour about Tlingit culture and the history of the town.

Crystal offers seven- and eight-night round-trip voyages from Vancouver , as well as one-way cruises from Vancouver or Seward, Alaska. On this sailing, you'll also enjoy a day at sea cruising Hubbard Glacier, as well as stops in Ketchikan, Sitka, Hoonah (Icy Strait), Skagway and Sitka in Alaska. Or, opt for the July 2, 2024, round-trip sailing from Vancouver for three scenic cruising days in the Inside Passage, Endicott Arm and the Seymour Narrows.

The line's Aug. 13, 2024, round-trip sailing from Vancouver features a special guest: Manfredi Lefebvre d'Ovidio, the executive chairman of A&K Travel Group. As such, the cruise will include an exclusive gala dinner and other unique experiences. Other special voyages welcome marine biologist and National Geographic photographer Flip Nicklin, who will share personal stories from his extensive career and expert insights about humpback whale habitats and behaviors.
