Can You Visit the Burj Al Arab? Inside Dubai’s Most Exclusive Hotel

It is one of the most exquisite and beautiful buildings in Dubai, but what do you actually know about the Burj Al Arab?

Insider tips on how to get into Dubai’s most exclusive address

The stunning sail silhouette is symbolic of one of the world’s most luxurious and exclusive hotels – complete with its own helipad no less.  It is also renowned for being hopelessly difficult to get into for a sneaky peek!

You must be a guest of the hotel, but there are plenty of ways you can do this without actually staying the night – though be warned it certainly won’t be the cheapest thing you do in Dubai, whatever way you play it! (But we’ll share with you below one option under $30 USD!)

Burj al Arab – a Seven-Star hotel?

OK, we should all know by now there’s no such thing as a seven-star hotel, but where did the catchphrase come from?  It was actually first expressed by a journalist when reviewing the newly opened Burj Al Arab in 1999 but clearly left a lasting impression.

Whilst classifications in Dubai – regulated by the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing – only give the hotel a 5-star rating, even the Jumeirah group who run the hotel still refer to their “7-star service” in their marketing; so you decide!

(Want to read more on the 7-star debate – if it doesn’t exist it looks like you ask someone to create it! )

travel logo burj al arab

So can you get inside the Burj al Arab?

The million-dollar question! The hotel is NOT open to walk-in visits from non-paying guests – and don’t even attempt it; you will be stopped by security well before you are near the building.

However, you need not stay the night in any of the Burj al Arab suites (they are too posh for hotel rooms). Instead, you could try booking in at one of the restaurants or bars for an indulgent treat or entering on a recreation day pass. We will look at each in turn:

  • Afternoon Tea at Burj Al Arab

Lunch and Dinner at Burj Al Arab

Enjoy sundowner drinks from the burj al arab, guided tour of burj al arab, pool day passes for burj al arab, other ways to see the burj al arab from outside..

Note 1 USD = 3.67 AED | 100 AED is approximately $28 USD

The easiest way into Burj al Arab is to book an afternoon tea

The restaurants themselves in the Burj al Arab, as you can imagine, are masterpieces before you even get to the food.

The Muntaha Restaurant and Skyview Bar and Restaurant are located on the 27th floor. 200m high they both reward visitors with amazing panoramic views of Dubai’s beaches, the Dubai Marina, the Palm Jumeirah , and in the distance the skyline of Downtown Dubai.

There are two afternoon tea restaurants with several variations available at Burj al Arab:

Sky Tea is served in the Skyview lounge

Perched on the 27th floor of this iconic building, this is one of the most elaborate Afternoon Tea experiences in Dubai .  Try date juice and exotic savouries before moving on to a delectable selection of sweets. There are options for a 5-course menu, or why not go all out and treat yourself to the 7-course option with champagne and caviar?

There are two seatings daily, the first is at 1:00 pm and another at 4:00 pm. The afternoon tea costs from 500 AED for adults and 315 AED for children (aged 8+).

Be warned if this is on your agenda it can sometimes book out weeks in advance, especially if you are eyeing up popular celebration dates. You pay an additional fee of 100 AED per person to be seated beside a window.

Afternoon Tea at Sahn Eddar

There is a second luxurious 7-course afternoon tea held on the 1st floor at the Sahn Eddar restaurant. The beautiful mosaics, marble floor, fountains and torches create an alluringly beautiful Middle Eastern atmosphere in the magnificent hotel lobby.  Enjoy pastries, cakes and the finest teas and coffees you can imagine.

The afternoon tea is served from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm and starts from 550 AED.

A 3-course High Tea is then held at Sahn Eddar, commencing at 7:00 pm.

Throughout the day there is also the option of their “Sweet Indulgences” packages offering a seasonal cake with mocktail or signature gold cappuccino for 280 AED per person.

Dress Code for High Tea or Afternoon Tea at Burj Al Arab

As you can imagine for such an opulent hotel there is a strict dress code in keeping with luxury and Muslim standards. You really need to dress for the occasion when you attend a Burj al Arab dining experience.

This means strictly no torn jeans, shirts without sleeves, translucent clothing, or gym gear. Gentleman are requested to wear a collared shirt, full-length trousers, and closed shoes.

As always for women in Dubai, respect the rules of no excessive cleavage, covered shoulders, no short skirts.  Women are requested to wear a suit or dress, long skirt or dressy slacks and top. UAE National Dress is welcome.

You can see our complete guide on how you should dress in Dubai here.

There are several other dining options at Burj al Arab to look out for at both lunch and dinner time across the Burj Al Arab’s diverse range of restaurants.

Specialising in French cuisine, Al Muntaha offers a weekend Brunch experience with the international buffet “ Le Grand Petit Dejeuner “ , described as ” an innovative interpretation of seasonal cuisine, artistically combining the finest of ingredients from around the globe into stylish masterpieces”. Situated on the 27th floor, this is one of Dubai’s best dining experiences with a view.

There is an early bird (10:00 am to 12:00 pm) seating and the full brunch which runs 10:00 am to 3:00 pm (one of the only hotels in Dubai we know where Brunch actually starts in the morning! ). Priced at 695 AED, which in 5-star Dubai brunch terms isn’t actually too bad!

They are also open for lunch and dinner throughout the week. For a greater sample of what’s on offer, you can enjoy a 4-course contemporary French lunch, or a luxury 5 or 7-course offering starting from 550 AED per person.

Dinner in the stunning aquarium restaurant

Al Mahara Aquarium Restaurant is an exquisite and unmissable touch if you are looking for the ultimate wow factor. Enjoy a 4, 5 or 7-course menu on the ground floor of Burj Al Arab. You will feel like you are dining under the sea in this exquisite one-of-a-kind restaurant, with naturally the best seafood menu you could imagine. It’s mocktails only though starting from 550 AED.

Al Iwan Restaurant

If you are looking for a traditional Arabic feed to pair perfectly with your extravagant Middle Eastern experience, look no further than Al Iwan Restaurant. Situated with views of the incredible hotel atrium, enjoy a selection of hot and cold Arabic mezze over lunch from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm.

The family-friendly dining option at the hotel – as casual as it gets is Bab al Yam. One of the only restaurants to let under 8’s in for the dinner time sitting.

A final dining option is Junsui, the hotels Far East Asian cuisine offering. As far as we are aware there are no special packages, just a delectable a la carte menu and setting to enjoy.

A little bit of everything? The Culinary Flight

Enjoy the culinary flight which will see you enjoying starters at Al Muntaha, followed by a main course at Al Mahara and mouth-watering mixology and dessert at Gold on 27. The package lasts from 7:00 pm to midnight for a princely sum of 1500 AED per person – a superb special occasion idea to wow your loved one.

If you don’t fancy shelling out for a meal, there are a couple of drink package options that will see you past security and into the Burj Al Arab – one which might even work on a budget!

Skyview Bar Beverage Package

Once afternoon tea is done and dusted, there are half-hourly slots to book yourself a spot at the Skyview bar and enjoy the views at sunset while sipping on a mocktail and a cocktail prepared by one of their resident mixologists. It still doesn’t come cheap, however, from 330 AED per person.

Now, this is the one we’ve been dying to share with you. Arguably the cheapest way to enjoy “7-star service” and still enjoy the ambience and experience of being inside the Burj Al Arab. NB since COVID temporarily closed.

All you need to do is head to the Gold on 27 website and select your number of guests and prefered time slot. This will get you your reservation confirmation. The Sundown on 27 menu which includes two drinks and one appetizer is 250 AED per person BUT you only need to make a minimum spend of 200 AED. Appetizers are priced at around 60 to 100 AED and cocktails around 100 AED to 140 AED.

Due to Gold on 27’s position in the hotel, yes you’re on the 27th floor, but you won’t get much of a view outside. You do get to travel through the exquisite hotel lobby to arrive at the bar and stake your claim to fame you have BEEN to the Burj al Arab!

This is the cheapest way we know to get into the Burj al Arab! (But let us know in the comments below if you think there’s a trick we’re missing!)

New in 2021, Jumeirah Group have launched a 90-minute butler-guided tour of the Burj Al Arab.

There will be morning, day, sunset and evening tour options. These can be taken in conjunction with other bookings at the hotel restaurants, or just take the tour on its own for an exclusive inside look at one of Dubai’s most luxurious and extravagant buildings.

As well as dining experiences, another way to enjoy the Burj al Arab is to consider a day pass to use the exquisite pool and recreation facilities.

The Burj Al Arab Terrace is famously one of the most beautiful in the world. A triangular deck that juts out from the base of the Burj al Arab, there are two infinity pools, designed to make it look as though you are floating above the Arabian Gulf waters.

The Terrace prices for non-guests of the hotel don’t come cheap, however. Prices start at 2000 AED to rent a cabana for one day, with prices as much as 7000 AED.

The cabanas are as luxurious as you might expect though from a “7-star” resort. They come decked out with your own coffee machine, mini-bar, dining and spa menus, sound system, television, air-conditioning and sunbeds.

Another moderately cheaper option is “A Day at the Terrace”, pool access accompanied with a 3-course lunch at Scape, the Mediterranean poolside restaurant.

Without a reservation, you simply won’t be allowed close to the hotel, even just to snap off a few shots for Instagram (despite what some reputable travel sites may have told you). It’s a big fat no, no matter how charming you think you are!

If you are like most of us mere mortals though and budget will not stretch to even a drink at the Burj Al Arab, your best bet is to head along to Umm Suqeim (Also known as Sunset Beach, or the Burj Beach) and here you can have some fun taking you snaps with the Burj from afar.

The Burj al Arab from sunset beach

We also love the view from Souk Madinat Jumeirah. The beautiful canals make the perfect setting for viewing arguably the most stunning and luxurious hotel in the world.

View of Burj Al Arab from Souk Madinat

The most exciting way to see the Burj Al Arab from outside though is to take a tour on the water! Adrenaline lovers will want to check out jet ski options or go for a luxury yacht tour to see how the other half live.

The tour was fantastic. Especially the mosque was the big highlighter of the tour. Our tourguide Ashraf did a great job.

Some 18km south of the Creek, the suburb of Umm Suqeim marks the beginning of Dubai’s spectacular modern beachside developments, announced with a flourish by three of Dubai’s most famous landmarks: the Madinat Jumeirah complex, the roller-coaster-like Jumeirah Beach Hotel , and the iconic sail-shaped Burj al Arab hotel. There are further attractions at the thrills-and-spills Wild Wadi water park and at Ski Dubai , the Middle East’s first ski slope, while more sedentary pleasures can be found at the vast Mall of the Emirates , next to Ski Dubai, of whose snowy pistes it offers superbly surreal views. Close to the Mall of the Emirates on the far side of Sheikh Zayed Road, the industrial area of Al Quoz provides an unlikely home to a number of Dubai’s leading art galleries.

Rising majestically from its own man-made island just off the coast of Umm Suqeim is the peerless Burj al Arab (“Tower of the Arabs”), one of the world’s most luxurious hotels and de facto symbol of the city. Commissioned by Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed, the aim of the Burj al Arab was simple: to serve as a global icon which would put Dubai on the international map. Money was no object. The total cost of the hotel was perhaps as much as US$2 billion, and it’s been estimated that even if every room in it remains full for the next hundred years, the Burj still won’t pay back its original investment.

As a modern icon, however, the Burj is unmatched, and the building’s instantly recognizable outline swiftly established it as a global symbol of Dubai to rival the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben and the Sydney Opera House. Even the top-floor helipad has acquired celebrity status: Andre Agassi and Roger Federer once famously played tennis on it, while Tiger Woods used it as a makeshift driving range, punting shots into the sea (before ringing room service for more balls).

The Burj is home to the world’s first so-called seven-star hotel , an expression coined by a visiting journalist to emphasize the unique levels of style and luxury offered within. Staying here is a very expensive pleasure, and even just visiting presents certain financial and practical challenges. Fortunately the building’s magnificent exterior can be enjoyed for free from numerous vantage points nearby.

Designed to echo the shape of a dhow’s sail, the Burj al Arab forms a kind of maritime counterpart to the adjacent Jumeirah Beach Hotel ’s “breaking wave”. Its sail-like shape offers a modern tribute to Dubai’s historic seafaring traditions, enhanced (as is its very exclusive aura) by its location on a specially reclaimed island some 300m offshore. The building was constructed between 1993 and 1999 by UK engineering and architectural firm W.S. Atkins under lead designer Tom Wright. The statistics alone are impressive. At 321m, the Burj is the third-tallest dedicated hotel in the world. The spire-like superstructure alone, incredibly, is taller than the entire Jumeirah Beach Hotel , while the atrium (180m) is capacious enough to swallow up the entire Statue of Liberty – or, for that matter, the 38-storey Dubai World Trade Centre tower.

The sheer scale of the Burj is overwhelming, and only really appreciated in the flesh, since photographs of the building, perhaps inevitably, always seem to diminish it to the size of an expensive toy. The Burj’s scale is tempered by its extraordinary grace and the sinuous simplicity of its basic design, broken only by the celebrated cantilevered helipad and (on the building’s sea-facing side) the projecting strut housing Al Muntaha (“The Highest”) restaurant and the Skyview Bar . The hotel’s shore-facing side mainly comprises a huge sheet of white Teflon-coated fibreglass cloth – a symbolic sail which is spectacularly illuminated from within by night, turning the entire building into a magically glowing beacon. Less universally admired is the building’s rear elevation, in the shape of a huge cross, a feature that caused considerable controversy among Muslims at the time of construction, though it’s only visible from the sea.

Most of the interior is actually hollow, comprising an enormous atrium vibrantly coloured in great swathes of red, blue, green and gold. The original design comprised a far more restrained composition of whites and soft blues, but was significantly altered at the insistence of Sheikh Mohammed, who called in interior designer Khuan Chew (responsible for the colourful lobby at the adjacent Jumeirah Beach Hotel ) to jazz things up. The contrast with the classically simple exterior could hardly be greater, and the atrium and public areas look like something between a Vegas casino and a James Bond movie set, the casual extravagance of it all encapsulated by enormous fish tanks flanking the entrance staircase which are so deep that cleaners have to put on diving suits to scrub them out (a performance you can witness daily 2–4pm). For many visitors, the whole thing is simply a classic example of Middle Eastern bling gone mad (that’s not gold paint on the walls, incidentally, but genuine 22ct gold leaf). Still, there’s something undeniably impressive about both the sheer size of the thing and Chew’s slightly psychedelic decor, with huge expanses of vibrant primary colour and endless balconied floors rising far overhead, supported by massive bulbous golden piers – like a “modern-day pirate galleon full of treasure”, as Tom Wright himself neatly described it.

Non-guests are only allowed into the Burj with a prior reservation at one of the hotel’s bars, cafés or restaurants. Big spenders might enjoy the hotel’s two fine-dining restaurants: choose between Al Mahara seafood restaurant and Al Muntaha , perched at the very top of the building. Alternatively, sign up for a less expensive buffet at the Arabian-style Al Iwan or Asian-style Junsui (lunch and dinner 505/560dh at both). Most visitors, however, opt for one of the Burj’s sumptuous afternoon teas, or just visit for a drink. Choose between the Sahn Eddar lounge in the spectacular atrium (minimum spend 290dh, afternoon teas 400/560dh) or put the high back into high tea with a table in the Skyview Bar at the very top of the hotel (minimum spend 350dh; afternoon tea 620dh). If you want to go the whole hog, try the novel “ Culinary Flight ” (lunch/dinner 1075/1350dh), comprising drinks at the Skyview Bar followed by a four-course meal, with each course served in a different restaurant, rounded off with dessert at Sahn Eddar .

On the beach right next to the Burj sits the second of the area’s landmark buildings, the huge Jumeirah Beach Hotel , or “JBH” as it’s often abbreviated. Designed to resemble an enormous breaking wave (although it looks more like an enormous roller coaster), and rising to a height of over 100m, the hotel was considered the most spectacular and luxurious in the city when it opened in 1997, although it has since been overtaken on both counts. It remains a fine sight, however, especially when seen from a distance in combination with the Burj al Arab, against whose slender sail it appears (with a little imagination) to be about to crash.

Just south of the Burj al Arab lies the huge Madinat Jumeirah , a vast mass of faux-Moorish-style buildings rising high above the coastal highway. Opened in 2005, the Madinat is one of Dubai’s most spectacular modern developments: a self-contained miniature “Arabian” city comprising a vast sprawl of sand-coloured buildings topped by an extraordinary quantity of wind towers (best viewed from the entrance to the Al Qasr hotel), the whole thing arranged around a sequence of meandering waterways along which visitors are chauffeured in replica abras. The complex is home to a trio of ultra-luxurious five-star hotels (with a fourth currently under construction), the labyrinthine Souk Madinat Jumeirah bazaar, a vast spread of restaurants and bars, and one of the city’s best spas.

There’s an undeniable whiff of Disneyland about the Madinat, admittedly. The vision, according to the developers, was “to re-create life as it used to be for residents along Dubai Creek, complete with waterways, abras, wind towers and a bustling souk”, although in truth Madinat Jumeirah bears about as much relation to old Dubai as Big Ben does to your average grandfather clock. Even so, the sheer scale of the place, with its relentlessly picturesque array of wind towers, wood-framed souks and palm-fringed waterways, is strangely compelling, and a perfect example of the kind of thing – mixing unbridled extravagance with a significant dose of sugar-coated kitsch – which Dubai seems to do so well. The Madinat also offers some of the most eye-boggling views in Dubai, with the futuristic outlines of the Burj al Arab surreally framed between medieval-looking wind towers and Moorish arcading. The fact that the fake olde-worlde city is actually newer than the ultramodern Burj is, by Dubai’s standards, exactly what one would expect.

The obvious place from which to explore the complex is the Souk Madinat Jumeirah, though it’s well worth investigating some of the superb restaurants and bars in the Al Qasr and Mina A’Salam hotels, several of which offer superlative views over the Madinat itself, the Burj al Arab and coastline. Twenty-minute abra cruises around the Madinat’s waterways depart from the kiosk outside Left Bank bar-restaurant on the waterfront.

The second-largest mall in Dubai (outdone only by the Dubai Mall), the swanky Mall of the Emirates is one of the most popular in the city, packed with some five hundred shops and crowds of locals and tourists alike. Centred around a huge, glass-roofed central atrium, the mall is spread over three levels, crisscrossed by escalators and little wrought-iron bridges, and topped by the pink, five-star Kempinski Hotel . For dedicated shopaholics it’s one of the best places in Dubai to splash some cash – and there’s also the added bonus of surreal views of the snow-covered slopes of Ski Dubai through huge glass walls at the western end of the mall, or from one of the various restaurants and bars overlooking the slopes, such as Après .

Attached to the Mall of the Emirates, the huge indoor ski resort of Ski Dubai is unquestionably one of the city’s weirder ideas. The idea of a huge indoor snow-covered ski slope (the first in the Middle East) complete with regular snowfall is strange enough amid the sultry heat of the Gulf – but the sight of robed Emiratis skiing, snowboarding or just chucking snowballs at one another adds a decidedly surreal touch to the already unlikely proceedings. If a peek is all you’re after, you can take in the whole spectacle for free from the viewing areas at the attached Mall of the Emirates.

The complex contains the world’s largest indoor snow park, comprising a huge 3000 square metres of snow-covered faux-Alpine mountainside, complete with chairlift. Accredited skiers and snowboarders (you’ll need to undergo a brief personal assessment to prove you possess the necessary basic skills to use the main slope) can use the five runs of varying height, steepness and difficulty, ranging from a beginners’ track through to the world’s first indoor black run, as well as a “freestyle zone” for show-off winter sports aficionados. There’s also a Snow School ski academy for beginners and improvers, as well as a twin-track bobsled ride, a snow cavern, chairlift and the "Snow Bullet" zipline, plus tobogganing and snowman-building opportunities.

Ski Dubai has also recently acquired its own troupe of resident king and gentoo penguins . A couple can be seen for free from the mall during the regular "March of the Penguins" (every 2hr on the hour), or at closer quarters on a full-blown "Penguin Encounter".

Directly behind the JBH, the massively popular (although seriously expensive) Wild Wadi water park offers a variety of attractions to suit everyone from small kids to physically fit adrenaline junkies. The park is modelled on a Sinbad-inspired fantasy tropical lagoon, with cascading waterfalls, whitewater rapids, hanging bridges and big piles of rocks. Get oriented with a circuit of the Whitewater Wadi (MasterBlaster) ride, which runs around the edge of the park, during which you’re squirted on powerful jets of water up and down eleven long, twisting slides before being catapulted down the darkened Tunnel of Doom. Dedicated thrill-seekers should try the Wipeout and Riptide Flowriders, simulating powerful surfing waves, and the park’s stellar attraction, the Jumeirah Sceirah , the world's eighth-highest waterslide, during which you’re likely to hit around 80km/h and experience temporary weightlessness. There are also less demanding attractions such as gentle tube-rides down Lazy River, family-oriented water games in Juha’s Dhow and Lagoon and the chance to bob up and down in the big simulated waves of Breaker’s Bay. Many people make a day of it, and you can buy food and drinks inside the park using money stored on an ingenious waterproof wristband.

My Burj Al Arab Stay- The 7-Star Experience

Sharing is caring!

Since its opening in 1999, the Burj Al Arab has been a dominant figure of the Dubai skyline. This architectural marvel is structured in the shape of a billowing Arabian dhow sail, in homage to the country’s seafaring history. It has played host to an awe-inspiring guest list of VIPs and celebrities from all over the world. Built on its own man-made island, the sail-shaped building rises 321m, providing guests an incredible view of the Arabian Gulf.

The Burj Al Arab is undoubtedly one of the most famous landmarks in the world let alone in the United Arab Emirates. It remains a huge attraction to visitors of Dubai and is renowned as the world’s first 7-star hotel. The hotel literally oozes luxury as it dominates the dazzling Dubai coastline. In this article, I am going to share with you my experience of staying in this incredible all-suite hotel.

Burj Al Arab and Jumeirah Beach hotel view from the beach in Dubai

Warm Arabian Welcome

As we drove up to the gated driveway, to our left was a minibus of tourists taking selfies through the gate to try and get the best shot of them with the iconic ‘sail’. Little did I know at the time, unless you had a reservation at the Burj Al Arab there was absolutely no access for tourists. It made that short drive to the atrium that much more special. We then stepped out of our transfer into a welcome warmer than the Dubai heat.

The moment I stepped into the atrium will be something I will never forget. We were greeted with gold and sapphire colours as far as the eye could see and fountains that danced in tranquility. In fact, it really does seem that all that glitters is gold. The interior of the hotel is covered in 22,000 square feet of 24-carat gold leaf. Once check-in was complete, we were then introduced to our butler. Yes, you read that correctly, our very own BUTLER.

The 7-Star Touches

Each floor is assigned a concierge and access to the Jumeirah Butler Whatsapp number. This is basically a modern-day Aladdin’s lamp. The only difference is that you aren’t limited to just 3 wishes from this genie!

During our stay, we were checked on throughout to see if there was anything they could do more of. The suite was cleaned no fewer than 4 times in a 24 hour period. Each time we returned to the room we were met with little treats such as caviar-covered canapes, and even afternoon tea! To top this we had a jacuzzi bath run for us and were asked the temperature we wanted it at!

The Deluxe Marina Suite

The Burj Al Arab boasts 202 rooms and is a suite-only hotel. This means that all rooms are spread over two floors with a minimum of 170m² (1829 feet² ). My stay saw me overlooking the Arabian Gulf on a Deluxe Marina Suite. Believe it or not, this is the base entry for a suite at the Burj Al Arab. You can see for yourself in the video further down this blog post just how astonishing this place really is.

The downstairs suite area consisted of an enormous living area, dining table and mini bar, workstation and not to mention the downstairs ‘guest bathroom’. The image below is not two photographs. This is as much of the living area I could get on a panoramic photograph!

Panoramic view inside the deluxe marina suite, Burj Al Arab , Dubai UAE

The pièce de résistance has to be the huge double mirror directly above our super kingsize bed covered in 100% Egyptian cotton. Not luxurious enough? Why not ask for the brochure with a choice of no fewer than 17 types of pillows?

The immensely spacious bathroom decorated with mosaics on the first floor of the suite boasts a full-size jacuzzi and walk-in rain shower. All with ‘his and hers’ luxury Hermes toiletries lining the marble double-wash basins.

The Sky Bar On 27

bar on 27th floor in the burj al arab

The Sky Bar on 27 is where it’s at. With world-class views and mixologists to match, this really is a must when staying here. Situated on the ’27th’ floor, you can take the glass elevator for views of the pool area ( Sal By The Burj) as well as distant twinkles from the neighbouring Palm.

Reservations are an essential requirement for those not staying at the hotel but residents are able to drop in for drinks and canapes and just enjoy the views from what feels like the top of the world. Our server even took us on a tour of the neighbouring bar (Gold on 27) and also the magnificent ballroom. These areas were closed to everyone on the dates we were there, but after he found out I was a travel agent and blogger, he was insistent on showing me the current off-limit areas.

Sal By The Burj

This is the iconic pool area situated at the rear of the hotel. Boasting incredible infinity views of the Arabian Gulf and of course poolside and restaurant fine dining options. This also allows views of the Burj Al Arab that very few ever see. The service is second to none as you would expect with cabanas available to rent on a daily basis. If you are not staying at the Burj, you can pay for access to the pool area. However, this will set you back approximately AED800 (£160) for entry with some food and drink vouchers included. So as you can see, exclusivity is key when staying at the world’s most luxurious hotel. Lunch here was absolutely incredible, as you would expect.

It was such a strange feeling to be sat watching numerous jet skiers and tour boats alike, stopping just adrift from us to photograph this monumental and world-famous icon. All hoping to catch a glimpse of that A-lister celeb, which we never actually saw while staying here. Can you believe it?

It was this point where I think it actually hit me just how privileged we were to be staying here.

Is Dubai On Your ‘To-Do List’?

The U.A.E has had a fantastic approach to the Covid-19 pandemic and has been one of the forefront countries in the vaccination program. This has led Dubai to become a go-to destination for just about everyone. With my second Dubai trip booked for just days after the release of this article, it has drawn me straight back after only visiting just 4 months prior. As many of you will know from following my blog, this is unusual for me.

Is Dubai on your mind? Why not check out an article from one of my brilliant guest contributors on ‘ Top 10 Things To Do In Dubai’ . Need help getting there? Look no further than your ‘independent travel agent ‘ and let me get you to this dream destination.

Burj Al Arab

One of the most iconic and instantly recognisable hotels in the world, the shimmering sail of the Burj Al Arab, the world’s ‘only seven-star hotel’ soars to a height of 321 metres, dominating the Dubai coastline from its private island just off Jumeirah Beach. The visually spectacular hotel unfurls like a billowing sail across the skyline, giving all who stay within its 24-karat gold walls the chance to feel like a sheikh in their own palace.

Make the short journey across the private, curving bridge and enter into the impressive atrium lobby, which towers some 600 feet above you. This is a most extraordinary hotel and where better to experience excess and lavish luxury on such a grand scale than in the adult’s playground of Dubai? Your room isn’t just a room, it’s a duplex suite, with floor to ceiling windows to allow perfect vistas of those Arabian Gulf views. Mosaic bathrooms, 14-option pillow menus, Hermes toiletries and impeccable service come as standard.

The restaurants too are typically top notch, from contemporary European cuisine served at Al Muntaha to the 12 live cooking stations at Japanese restaurant, Junsui. If you feel like arriving in style, the hotel has its own fleet of chauffeur driven BMWs and Rolls-Royces, with one of the most incredible helipads if you’d really like to make an entrance.

Dubai submerged in floods as UAE gets over a year’s worth of rain in hours

By the end of Tuesday, more than 142mm (5.59 inches) of rain had soaked Dubai over 24 hours.

Heavy thunderstorms have lashed the United Arab Emirates (UAE), dumping more than a year and a half’s rain on the desert city-state of Dubai in just a few hours and flooding major highways and its international airport.

The rains began late on Monday, soaking the sands and roads of Dubai with some 20mm (0.79 inches) of rain, according to meteorological data collected at Dubai International Airport. The storms intensified at about 9am (05:00 GMT) on Tuesday and continued throughout the day, dumping more rain and hail onto the overwhelmed city.

Heavy rains kill 18 in oman as flash floods lash uae, at least 33 killed in afghanistan as heavy rains set off flash floods, photos: heavy rains, lightning in pakistan kill at least 50 people.

By the end of Tuesday, more than 142mm (5.59 inches) had soaked Dubai. An average year sees 94.7mm (3.73 inches) of rain at Dubai International Airport, the world’s busiest for international travel and a hub for the long-haul carrier Emirates.

At the airport, pools of water lapped on taxiways as aircraft landed. The airport ended up halting arrivals on Tuesday night and passengers struggled to reach terminals through the floodwater covering surrounding roads.

Dubai International Airport acknowledged on Wednesday morning that the flooding had left “limited transportation options” and affected flights as aircraft crews could not reach the airfield.

Emirates said it was suspending check-in for passengers from Dubai International from 8am until midnight on Wednesday because of operational challenges resulting from the incessant rain.

“Recovery will take some time,” the airport said on the social platform X. “We thank you for your patience and understanding while we work through these challenges.”

Dubai Flooded After UAE Receives Year’s Worth of Rain in Hours"

Police and emergency personnel drove slowly through the flooded streets of Dubai, their emergency lights shining across the darkened roads. Lightning flashed across the sky, occasionally touching the tip of the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. The city’s driverless Metro network also saw disruptions and flooding.

Fujairah saw the heaviest rainfall

Schools across the UAE, a federation of seven sheikhdoms, largely shut before the storm and government employees were mostly working remotely. Many other workers also stayed at home, although some ventured out, with the unfortunate finding themselves stranded in deeper-than-expected water after the water stalled their vehicles’ engines.

Authorities sent tanker trucks out into the streets and highways to pump away the water, but some homes were also inundated forcing residents to bail them out.

The country did not offer any information on the overall damage. In Ras al-Khaimah, the country’s northernmost emirate, police said one 70-year-old man died when his vehicle was swept away by floodwater.

Fujairah, an emirate on the UAE’s eastern coast, saw the heaviest rainfall on Tuesday with 145mm (5.7 inches) falling there.

Authorities cancelled school and the government instituted remote work again for Wednesday.

A lightning flashes through the sky during a heavy rainfall in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, 16 April 2024. A severe wave of thunderstorms with heavy rainfall is hitting most UAE's cities especially in Dubai, Sharjah and Al Ain where the Asian Champions League semi final first leg match between UAE's Al-Ain Club and Al-Hilal from Saudi Arabia has been postponed.

Rain is unusual in the UAE, an arid, Arabian Peninsula nation, but it does occur periodically during the cooler winter months. Many roads and other areas lack drainage given the lack of regular rainfall, causing flooding.

Rain also fell in Bahrain, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

In neighbouring Oman, a sultanate that rests on the eastern edge of the Arabian Peninsula, the country’s National Committee for Emergency Management said at least 18 people had been killed in heavy rains over the past few days. Among the dead were 10 schoolchildren who were swept away in a vehicle with an adult.

Rulers from across the region sent their condolences.
