Do you want to find the best travel video music for your vlogs? From royalty free songs to music subscriptions, this is how to find the right track for you!

travel video music

Are you looking for the best background music for travel videos? Then you’ve come to the right place! In this blog post I’ll explain where to find the best songs for a travel video – I’ll also explain how you can save some money on music subscriptions in the long run too.

One of the questions I always get asked on my YouTube channel is how do I find the best travel video music. I’ve had my YouTube channel since 2014, and over the years I’ve really developed my own sound and style. That’s why I know it’s important to find the right track for you

As you know, a good song can make or break a video. If a song is jarring or doesn’t match what people are watching, then they’re just going to turn off. And once they’re gone, they gone, they ain’t coming back. That means you’ve only got one chance to get this right.

music for travel videos

When I was learning how to make travel videos , I was always taught that the audio and music were actually more important than the visuals. People can understand a video without any audio – beautiful montages are great – but as soon as you introduce audio and sound it really changes people’s perceptions of a video.

That’s why, when I used to make travel videos a few years ago, I used to spend hour after hour sifting through audio libraries trying to find the right track. Thankfully, things have gotten a lot quicker and easier since then.

I’m not saying I’m perfect at finding the right music, but I do take pride in how my videos sound. A lot of effort goes into each one and hopefully that’s reflected in the content I create.

Over the past few years I’ve learned a lot (you can check out some of my videos here ), so to help you out here are some of my top tips of finding the best music for travel videos.

Also, I’ve included a couple of exclusive discounts and perks just for my followers, so make sure you make good use of them!

Why is music so important?

It’s evocative, emotive, inspiring and everything else in-between. Basically, music is the one thing that ties your video together.

Do you want people to feel happy or sad when watching your video? Do you want them to feel positive about life? Or floaty and dreamy? Music is the way of setting the mood so the person watching knows how to feel without knowing how they’re feeling (if that makes sense).

Music creates an emotion into what you’re trying to say. It creates this emotional connection between you and the viewer – that’s why I think it’s so important. If you want those acoustic road trip vibes then there’s a way of creating that emotion with the right travel videos music.

how to find music for travel videos

When searching for songs in music libraries and subscription services, you can actually do it by mood. Want your video to be mysterious or sexy? There are moods for that! This makes it really easy finding the right background music that conveys the emotional message of your video.

Another reason why finding the right track is so vital is video editing. When video editing, you should be editing to the beat. This is when each different shot or scene changes to the beat of the music. Slow music means longer changes, a quick tempo gives a very fast edit.

Just another reason why music is so important!

Finding copyright royalty free music for travel videos

I was talking to a friend recently and she really wanted to find royalty free music for her latest YouTube video. The problem? She didn’t want to pay for anything.

There are a couple of really good YouTube channels like Vlog No Copyright Music and Music for Creators where you can download no copyright, royalty free music.

If you search for ‘travel vlog music’ in YouTube itself, there are loads of options for you to use.

good songs for travel video montage

I would say that if you’re just starting out or you don’t make videos that often, this is a really good and free option. Obviously it being free is the main thing here.

However, there is a downside. Despite how good some of the songs sound, they are very generic and thousands of other people use them. That means there’s a high likelihood of someone else using the same song in their videos.

If you’re looking for originality (like I always do when making a video) then this isn’t the best way of doing it.

finding music for videos

Using music libraries – paid subscriptions

Music libraries are websites that have hundreds of thousands of songs which you can download.

They have everything from classical music all the way through to grime and trip-hop. Basically, whatever you want, they have it. These are what I have used for the past couple of years and I love em.

Now music libraries are a premium service. This means you need to pay some $$$ depending on the licence and what the music is for. It goes without saying, but if you want to use it for commercial purposes then it costs a lot more to download that particular type of licence that if you just wanted to use it for a personal YouTube video.

You can either pay for a single track which you get to use once, or you can pay for a monthly subscription fee and get unlimited tracks. It all depends on what level you’re at and how many tracks you want to use.

travel video songs

There are quite a few different audio libraries out there, but I am only going to recommend the three best ones.

Also, I’ve teamed up with a couple of these to offer exclusive discounts just for you guys. This is either money off your subscription or a couple of months free. If you’re thinking of signing up then use my links and save some money. I’m here for you guys!

For transparency and as a disclaimer, I earn a small commission of these links, but they never cost you any more money. And I only ever recommend services that I’ve used myself.

good songs for travel videos

When it comes to searching for some music for travel videos, Artlist is an amazing place to start.

Artlist are an amazing subscription service and they have some really ambient travel video music that I like.

With over 12,000 songs to choose from and with unlimited downloads, Artlist only feature artists that are hand-picked from all over the world. Also, any song you download is yours to use in any project including commercial usage, a lifetime use for the songs you download, pre-checked for YouTube monetisation and new music every month – it does buy you a lot!

Artlist is a subscription-based service and costs $16.60 per month. However, this can only be billed annually at $199 which makes it more for long-term content creators.

Personally, I think Artlist have some of the best songs for travel videos around. Their acoustic guitar section is particularly good, and they have lots of nice ambient tracks too.

For my followers, if you signup and subscribe to Artlist then you get 2 months extra for free. That’s a saving of $33.20 for the annual subscription so not bad at all!

Are you looking at actually how to make a travel video? Then this section is for you.

FXHome by Artlist is a brand new video & image editing software provider for anyone who wants to create videos on the move.

There are subscriptions for any creator and access to a library of industry-leading music, sound effects, and video templates built directly into your editing platform. These new templates make editing super easy.

Audionetwork :

travel vlog music

You can buy a single-track usage for £6.99, a single track with monetisation on YouTube for £19.99 or a professional licence for £69 (these are for production companies more than anything else).

Even though the music on Audionetwork is great, if you buy a few single-track licences it very quickly adds up and can be pretty pricey. That’s what I found after a while of using Audionetwork. If you’re looking at buying a one-off track though then this is a really good option for you. They also have some fantastic background songs for travel videos too.

Epidemic Sound :

epidemic sound subscription

Epidemic Sound have been getting more and more popular over the last couple of years and they have some of the best travel video music around.

A creator subscription at Epidemic Sound costs £10 per month and this gets you access to all 30,000+ tracks, unlimited downloads, unlimited use in all your owned and operated channels and no copyright claims or royalty fees.

Also, and this is the real bonus – YOU CAN CANCEL ANY TIME! I really like that because as a blogger you know that one month you might need to edit 4 videos, and then you won’t have to do any again for a few months, so I love that you can dip in to and out of this service.

I have genuinely used all 3 of these subscription services and my favourite by far is Epidemic Sound. What I love is the selection of tracks you can get on there and I love how you’re not locked into anything. For the videos I make, I think Epidemic Sound have the best selection of tracks too. Put it this way, I’m a fan.

If you’re interested in signing up to Epidemic Sound, I have a free 30-day trial for all my followers. This gives you access to the whole Epidemic Sound library and gives you a little taste of what they’re like. Sign up and hopefully you’ll enjoy them as much as I do!

Top tips for finding the best travel video music

  • When you’re searching for which track to use, play it alongside some raw footage of your video. If you know what shots you want to use and how your video is going to flow, being able to hear the music while watching some of your favourite b-roll is going to give you an indication whether the song will work or not.
  • These days, when I’m planning a video, I actually start searching for tracks beforehand to see what music I think would match the place I’m travelling to. If I’m heading to Mexico, I search for some Mexican sounds. That means, before I’ve even stepped onto the plane, I know the type of shots I’ll need for my video. Sometimes the best travel music for videos is recording a local band and using that – just make sure the audio is good enough!
  • Beware of lyrics. Even though songs with lyrics in are great and I use them a lot, if there are lyrics in the background when you’re talking or there’s a voiceover it’s really jarring.
  • Make sure your background music is background music. If it’s too loud and it clashes with any other audio then it’ll ruin your video. Keep it in the background at -2 to -4db dropping down to -16 to -22db for any voiceover and you’ll be fine.
  • Don’t be afraid to cut up a song. Just because the song length is 3 minutes 20 seconds, it doesn’t have to be that. Remember you can cut and loop different sections of the song to make it shorter or longer if you want.
  • If you find a song you really like but isn’t quite right for your project, save it in a separate folder so you can come back to it in the future. I have so many songs saved offline that I want to use for future projects it’s unreal.

So those are all my top tips for finding the best travel video songs. Hopefully you’ll now be able to find the right track for you next project!

What’s your favourite music library or subscription? I’d love to know in the comments below!

Thank you for sharing these tips. We have curated a few videos ourselves and have had to work hard to get the desired music. We were able to use a Jack Johnson song by contacting his representants directly. Some artists are not as flexible so we will definitely keep these tips in mind.

It’s always great when you find the right track for your videos – sometimes a song just works, doesn’t it? I agree, contacting artists directly is a good way to find music and I know a lot of people on SoundCloud licence their music to YouTubers.

How to find the music best fits travel videos

Music and song play crucial roles in shaping and creating video memories. It has the ability to evoke emotions, it enhance storytelling, sets the mood, and triggers memories, making the experience more meaningful and cherished.

Emotional Resonance

For many, songs and their lyrics have the unique power to connect to our emotions. The lyrics may trigger something meaningful, the melody and pace of the song may intensify the impact the video memory.

More than that, the right music makes the moments that were captured more vivid, provoking profound feelings within the viewers of your travel videos.

Enhanced Storytelling

Music acts as tool for storytelling in video memories. The best songs are when the lyrics of the song complement the visuals and narrative, which ultimately guide you or your audience emotions and help to grasp the underlying themes or messages.

If you use the right song for travel videos, a simple sequence could easily become compelling and unforgettable.

Mood Setting

It's no secret that music sets the mood for different atmospheres. Music also sets the mood for video memories.

Whether it's a joyous, upbeat tune for celebrations, or a quieter, reflective melody for contemplative moments, music makes the viewing experience more immersive.

When your travel video memories are shared with others, it's guaranteed that the music will enhance the shared experience. It fosters a sense of unity and understanding between viewers.

Memory Trigger

Music has the ability to trigger memories. How many time have you heard a song and have been reminded of a memory?

When you revisit your video memories with the original music, it'll instantly transport you back in time to the adventure or vacation you were on.

Let's use the joyous, upbeat tune as an example. Let's imagine that while you are camping, your friend pulls out his guitar and begins to play a song.

Fast forward, incorporating said song into your recap video, will trigger the memories of everyone gathered around at the camp site, listening to this song.

When you all watch that camping travel video, and recall the song, you'll be reminded of the memories you all share.

This is exactly why it's important to find the best travel songs or the right songs for your adventure videos.

Completeness

It isn't often recognized that music truly takes on every role; even the role of completeness. Similar to a cinematic movie with a soundtrack, travel videos or video memories in general, benefit from songs.

Music, like background music, fills the gaps, adds depth and emotion to visuals, and never leave dead space.

What are your options for legal music for your travel video?

Illegal versus Legal

If you plan to share your travel video on social media, use it for commercial purposes, or stream it for public viewing, it really is important to make sure that you have the legal right to use the music in your video.

Copyright Music

Using copyrighted music without permission can inevitably lead to many issues such as

your travel video being blocked

your travel video taken down

or even more seriously, you could facing legal consequences

Commercial music is protected by copyright laws.

This means you need explicit permission from the copyright holders to use it without any legal consequences and this typically involves obtaining two different copyright licenses:

a master use license for the actual sound recording

a composition license that protects the subsequent musical composition.

Obtaining these copyright licenses can be a very difficult process because you need to directly contact the copyright holders, which could include the artist, composer, record label, or music producer.

With royalty free music, you only need to pay for the music license once, and no further royalty fees are required. Seems easy? Well it is.

Many providers offer royalty free music and handle the necessary licensing fees on your behalf, which leads you to only pay a one-time fee, or you can choose a monthly or annual subscription to access and use the music legally.

Some of these sites and providers offer royalty free music for free, but only if you give credit to the artist when using or posting the music (on youtube or social media).

This way, you can find suitable music for your travel videos without the complexities and legal concerns associated with copyrighted music.

There are the legal options for using music in your adventure videos without the need to track down copyright holders directly:

Royalty Free Music

As mentioned, this type of music is provided by a service that takes care of the licensing fees. When you use royalty free music, you won't face royalties each time you incorporate it into your video.

Typically, you pay a one-time fee or subscribe to gain unlimited access to the music libraries.

Public Domain Music

Music published before 1927 falls into the public domain category. This means that the copyright has essentially expired. You have unlimited access to this music legally and free of charge without the need for a license or needing to give credit.

Creative Commons Licensed Music

This is music that is released under Creative Commons licenses is free to use legally, provided you give credit to the artist or creator.

Personally Created Music :

If you produce, compose or create your own music, you own the rights to it. Simple as that. This means, not only is it free music, but you're allowed you to use it in your travel videos as you wish.

Where can I download legal music?

Download Button

Asides from copyrighted music, there are numerous service providers that offer royalty free and copyright-free music that you can legally download and use in your travel videos. There a reputable free and paid options.

Can I use any songs for my travel videos?

Yes or No

The short and logistical answer is no, and this is simply because of the copyright issue we just went in depth on.

If you're posting your travel video to youtube, then no. If it's just for you and your family to watch in the privacy of your own homes, then yes.

Past that, if we're talking about using any song in terms of the aesthetic and the vibe of your travel videos, then the answer is yes. The world of the music library is your oyster.

But with a world of choice out there, it’s sometimes tricky knowing where to start your search for music that fits your footage. Which is why Uppbeat has created a library dedicated to travel creators, featuring specially curated collections of music that’ll take your content to National Geographic levels of awesome. Some sounds will instantly transport your viewers to certain parts of the world. It’s a powerful tool that’ll immediately add even more authenticity to your content. Think Middle Eastern Grooves conjuring images of camelback rides, or Gypsy Swing giving your footage a European flavor.

When you find the perfect music to match the vibe of a place you have visited, it becomes that much easier to immerse your audience and make them feel like they were with you every step of the way. A great example is Kara and Nate who used Japanese lofi beats to soundtrack their 24 hour vlog in the country, tapping into the chilled-out vibes of visiting cherry blossom-lined parks.

You could take a leaf out of Mikki Tenazas's book, using sunny slabs of tropical house to bring party vibes to his guide to the stunning beaches of the Maldives. Or simply search through our Global Grooves playlist to find uplifting beats, similar to those in Kombi Life's van life vlog from Ireland. Find the beats that match your video and take viewers on an auditory journey with you.

Take a leaf out of Hollywood’s book and pair stunning visuals with a blockbuster soundtrack. Like how Eva zu Beck matches dramatic frozen vistas with captivating cinematic music during her trip to the Arctic Circle. The epic soundtrack elevates the footage and enhances the feeling of awe felt by viewers.

Tracks that’ll get your audience on the edge of their seat are great too. TikToker Jacob Riglin uses big energy EDM to mirror his adrenaline-fuelled skydiving clips, and you can do the same by exploring our Adrenaline Rush playlist full of big beats.

Or why not check out our Off the Beaten Path collection to discover experimental beats that work well with unique, remote locations. Kristen & Siya use these kinds of left field sounds to memorable effect, pairing blissed-out electronica with their camping trip in the Canadian wilderness. It’s all about experimenting with music that mirrors the energy and mood of your adventures, so give it a try!

Every city has its soundtrack, and matching your edits with these musical styles immediately gives your video added authenticity. Say for example, you’ve filmed some Casey Neistat-style shots of New York, you already know your fast-cut edit will work well with cool lofi beats.

To make your life easier, we’ve put together dedicated playlists to suit a whole range of cities from around the world. If you’re following in Grrrltraveler ’s footsteps and planning an urban Indian adventure, you can dive straight into our Mumbai Bustle collection. Or you can find the perfect Parisian soundtrack if you’re taking a romantic city break like takemyhearteverywhere .

Bring your content to life with music inspired by different landscapes

Separate images of a waterfall and a desert to represent different Uppbeat travel music playlists.

Some of the most successful travel creators are known for capturing jaw-dropping footage of stunning vistas. You’ll often find they elevate beautiful natural landscapes with equally evocative music.

Take how Sorelle Amore used reflective cinematic music to soundtrack her exploration of the serene coastline of Yemen. Or look at the way Fearless & Far used uplifting beats to wrap up their extraordinary video of camping under Africa’s second largest waterfall. By selecting a soundtrack to complement your visuals, you’ll create a truly immersive experience for your audience and allow your footage to shine.

Respect local cultures by using traditional music

Image of a celtic-style tree and a flamenco dancer to represent different Uppbeat travel music playlists.

Creating great travel content is as much about capturing the essence of a place as it is showcasing amazing locations. By weaving traditional music into your videos, you add a layer of cultural depth and offer your viewers an immersive auditory experience that enhances the visual narrative.

Yes Theory are masters of this technique. For example, they used traditional Japanese music to immediately set the scene for their sumo house experience and exploration of its cultural significance. While both Flying The Nest and Drew Binsky use distinctly Indian sounds to immediately place their videos, despite highlighting very different aspects of the country’s culture.

Find the perfect soundtrack for your travel videos with Uppbeat

When it comes to choosing the right music for your travel content, it can be tricky knowing where to start. Do you hunt down songs for travel videos which fit the local culture? Do you try to match the vibe of the footage? Or perhaps just find yourself some banging beats?

To help make your search hassle-free, Uppbeat has a designated section of our platform dedicated to music for travel videos . Our specially curated music collections reflect the diverse ways travel creators look for the perfect track, meaning you can dive into beats of the world, discover specific city vibes, or find a mood to match your edit.

You will collect memories, and a few songs will take part in it. Then, when you are back home or wherever, you will hear this special song in the radio – and it takes you right back to those fun situations you will cherish forever.

For us, this is for instance “We don’t talk anymore” – we traveled Vietnam for 3 months and some local in every single village, town and city played it at least once. We turned crazy, yet it’s today a part of the experience. Then in Labuan Bajo, while taking the boat cruise around the Komodo National Park, the boat crew only had only one song to play, HIOKO TOBELO 2 – Yopie Latul .

1. Ricky Nelson – Travelin’ Man

I’m a travelin’ man I’ve made a lot of stops all over the world And in every part I own the heart Of at least one lovely girl

I’ve a pretty Señorita waiting for me Down in old Mexico If you’re ever in Alaska stop and see My cute little Eskimo

Oh, my sweet Fraulein down in Berlin town Makes my heart start to yearn And my China doll down in old Hong Kong Waits for my return

Pretty Polynesian baby over the sea I remember the night When we walked in the sands of the Waikiki And I held you, oh so tight

2. The Melodic – “On My Way”

I found an open door (I’m on my way) I think of love once more (I’m on my way)

Precious time on your own Seeing more than you care to say And the mist falls away (I’m on my way)

At times I’ve tried to feel (I’m on my way) With the thoughts I tried to steal (I’m on my way)

Left forgotten like young love All the choices I am made of When the push comes to shove

3. Passenger – Traveling Alone

Australian man, Scandinavian tan, Kicking stones round a square. Sat for a while and carved out a smile, As if someone would care.

Said I’m a long way from the Gold Coast. Furthest I’ve ever known, Oh and this just ain’t my home. It was my wife’s idea, but she’s no longer here. She left me travelling alone.

I never heard silence ring out like a bell. I never heard silence like last night in my expensive hotel. Well, I’m loving a shadow, I’m trying to catch the rain. But I never heard silence ’til I heard it today.

She walked out of the hotel, I could still smell the smoke of the burning heart left inside. She said men are all assholes And life’s a bad joke. She laughed and started to cry.

See, ten years with this man, And a life time of plans, Oh, and I loved him to his bones. Now I’ve lines on my skin And he’s traded me in. He left me travelling alone.

Well, I never felt silence hit me like a train. I never felt silence like blood coursed through my veins. Well, I’m loving a shadow, and I’m trying to catch the rain. I never heard silence ’til I heard it today. I never felt silence ’til I felt it today.

4. Band of Horses – The Funeral

I’m coming up only to hold you under I’m coming up only to show you wrong And to know you is hard, we wonder To know you, all wrong we were

Ooh-ooh Ooh-ooh

Really too late to call, so We wait for Morning to wake you, that’s all we got To know me as hardly golden Is to know me all wrong, they were

At every occasion, I’ll be ready for the funeral Every occasion, once more, it’s called the funeral Every occasion, know I’m ready for the funeral Every occasion, oh, one billion-day funeral

5. X Ambassadors – Renegades

Run away with me Lost souls and reverie Running wild and running free Two kids, you and me

6. Noah And The Whale – Blue Skies

This is a song for anyone with a broken heart This is a song for anyone who can’t get out of bed

I’ll do anything to be happy

Oh, ’cause blue skies are coming

But I know that it’s hard

This is the last song that I write while still in love with you This is the last song that I write while you’re even on my mind

’cause it’s time to leave those feelings behind Oh, ’cause blue skies are coming But I know that it’s hard

7. Coldplay – Adventure Of A Lifetime

Turn your magic on, to me she’d say Everything you want’s a dream away We are legends, every day That’s what she told him

I feel my heart beating I feel my heart beneath my skin I feel my heart beating Oh, you make me feel

Like I’m alive again Alive again Oh, you make me feel Like I’m alive again

8. Red Hot Chili Peppers – Californication

Psychic spies from China try to steal your mind’s elation And little girls from Sweden dream of silver screen quotation And if you want these kind of dreams it’s Californication It’s the edge of the world and all of western civilization

The sun may rise in the East at least it’s settled in a final location It’s understood that Hollywood sells Californication Pay your surgeon very well to break the spell of aging Celebrity skin is this your chin or is that war you’re waging?

9. Of Monsters and Men – Dirty Paws

Jumping up and down the floor My head is an animal And once there was an animal It had a son that mowed the lawn The son was an OK guy They had a pet dragonfly The dragonfly it ran away But it came back with a story to say

Her dirty paws and furry coat She ran down the forest slope The forest of talking trees They used to sing about the birds and the bees The bees had declared a war The sky wasn’t big enough for them all The birds, they got help from below From dirty paws and the creatures of snow

10. Foo Fighters – These Days

One of these days, the ground will drop out from beneath your feet One of these days, your heart will stop and play it’s final beat

One of these days, the clocks will stop and time won’t mean a thing One of these days, their bombs will drop and silence everything

But it’s alright, yeah it’s alright, said it’s alright Easy for you to say Your heart has never been broken Your pride has never been stolen Not yet, not yet, one of these days I bet your heart ‘ll be broken I bet your pride ‘ll be stolen I’ll bet, I’ll bet, I’ll bet, I’ll bet One of these days, one of these days

11. David Bowie – Heroes

I, I wish you could swim Like the dolphins Like dolphins can swim Though nothing, nothing will keep us together

We can beat them, forever and ever

Oh, we can be heroes just for one day

I, I will be King And you, you will be Queen Though nothing will drive them away We can be heroes just for one day We can be us just for one day

12. Ben Howard – Old Pine

Hot sand on toes, cold sand in sleeping bags I’ve come to know that memories Were the best things you ever had The summer shone beat down on bony backs

So far from home where the ocean stood Down dust and pine cone tracks We slept like dogs down by the fire side Awoke to the fog all around us

The boom of summer time We stood Steady as the stars in the woods So happy-hearted

And the warmth rang true inside these bones As the old pine fell we sang Just to bless the morning

13. The Byrds – I Wasn’t Born To Follow

Recommended by the Hostelgeeks community member Alexandra.

No I’d rather go and journey Where the diamond crescent’s glowing And run across the valley Beneath the sacred mountain And wander through the forest

Where the trees have leaves of prisms And break the light in colors That no one know the names of

And when it’s time I’ll go and lay Beside the legendary fountain ‘Till I see her form reflected

In its clear and jewelled waters And if you think I’m ready You may lead me to the chasm Where the rivers of our visions Flow into one another

14. Imagine Dragons – Not Today

There she goes in front of me Take my life and set me free again We’ll make a memory out of it Holy road is at my back Don’t look on, take me back again

We’ll make a memory out of it We finally fall apart and we break each other’s hearts

If we wanna live young, love, we better start today It’s gotta get easier, oh easier somehow

‘Cause I’m falling, I’m falling Oh easier and easier somehow

Oh I’m calling, I’m calling And it isn’t over, unless it is over I don’t wanna wait for that It’s gotta get easier and easier somehow But not today Not today

15. Mumford & Sons – Hopeless Wanderer

You heard my voice, I came out of the woods by choice Shelter also gave their shade But in the dark I have no name So leave that click in my head And I will remember the words that you said Left a clouded mind and a heavy heart But I am sure we could see a new start So when your hopes on fire But you know your desire Don’t hold a glass over the flame Don’t let your heart grow cold I will call you by name I will share your road

But hold me fast, hold me fast ‘Cause I’m a hopeless wanderer And hold me fast, hold me fast ‘Cause I’m a hopeless wanderer

16. Paper Lions – Travelling

Travelling the road, last known is where I want to be My compass directing, electing, an open road with golden trees But there’s an old man in need on the ground, I try not to make a sound He holds out his hand as I walk away, I hear him say

Please don’t be a stranger in my place Travelling come to a tavern for a momentary rest

I see the old man that I passed on the road in his distress As I turned to go I can hear him say, “Son, stay. Have a drink, I’ll pay.” Let bygones be gone, it’s all in the past, we raise a glass Please don’t be a stranger in my place

What if I could be what you wanted me to be What if I could see what you wanted me to see Come on and show me Please don’t be a stranger in my place

17. Ramon Mirabet – Home Is Where The Heart is

20. The Weeknd – Wanderlust

Is it so hard to say the same thing? And you’re so weak to say the same thing And burn a hole into your apprehensiveness And let the wildfire shine And repeat after me

You’re in love with something bigger than love You believe in something stronger than trust

Wanderlust Wanderlust

23. Bastille – Pompeii

I was left to my own devices Many days fell away with nothing to show

24. Green day – Time of your life

Another turning point, a fork stuck in the road Time grabs you by the wrist, directs you where to go

So make the best of this test, and don’t ask why It’s not a question, but a lesson learned in time It’s something unpredictable, but in the end it’s right I hope you had the time of your life

So take the photographs, and still-frames in your mind Hang them on a shelf in good health and good time Tattoo’s of memories and dead skin on trial For what it’s worth, it was worth all the while

It’s something unpredictable, but in the end it’s right I hope you had the time of your life

Let’s go get lost, let’s go get lost

Blue you sit so pretty West of the one Sparkles light with yellow icing, just a mirror for the sun Just a mirror for the sun Just a mirror for the sun

These smiling eyes are just a mirror for So much as come before those battles lost and won This life is shining more forever in the sun Now let us check our heads and let us check the surf Staying high and dry’s More trouble than it’s worth in the sun

33. José González – Stay Alive

There’s a rhythm in rush these days Where the lights don’t move and the colors don’t fade Leaves you empty with nothing but dreams

In a world gone shallow In a world gone lean

Sometimes there’s things a man cannot know Gears won’t turn and the leaves won’t grow There’s no place to run and no gasoline

Engine won’t turn And the train won’t leave

Engines won’t turn and the train won’t leave I will stay with you tonight

Hold you close ‘til the morning light In the morning watch a new day rise We’ll do whatever just to stay alive We’ll do whatever just to stay alive

Moving up your spine

And so I’d thought I’d let you know That these things take forever, I especially am slow But I realized that need you And I wondered if I could come home

When I was a kid the things I did were hidden under the grid Young and naive I never believed that love could be so well hid With regret I’m willing to bet and say the older you get It gets harder to forgive and harder to forget It gets under your shirt like a dagger at work The first cut is the deepest but the rest still flipping hurt You build your heart of plastic Get cynical and sarcastic And end up in the corner on your own

It’s so safe to play along Little soldiers in a row Falling in and out of love With something sweet to throw away. But I want something good to die for To make it beautiful to live. You talk of my impending doom, no promise nor a myth You justify avoiding me to sell out on a whiff

Oh if I, I want to be the lonely one, I want to be the only one And if I, lord I And if I, I want to be the chosen one, I want to be the chosen one And if I, lord I

Don’t you tire of telling me? ‘The world ends at the sky, You’re just a little fish another simple passer by, All your songs and poetry are droplets in the sea’ I said ‘That is ok for you, your words won’t follow me!’

1. Sam Newton Media

Sam Newton is a young talented traveler who decided to drop out of college, buy a video camera, learn out to create amazing videos, and start to travel the world. I am sure you agree with me that he learned the craft quite well.

The way he captures the essence of every situation is mind-blowing. He creates tension and drama to make you stay glued to the videos. The amazing images make you feel as if you were right there, in the scene.

2. The Expert Vagabond – Matthew Kersten

Matthew is one of the first Bloggers who made it a real profession and made us all go for it too. He inspired me to write my first article and start my blog adventure. Of course, I am not even comparing myself to his spectacular work but I keep following him for inspiration.

His videos are breathtaking and very professional. He’s indeed one my favorites among all the travel video channels I have shared here.

This video that I have picked for you amongst the hundreds that he publishes has a special meaning to me because it has been recorded in Antarctica, a place that I am dreaming to visit, and the main character is a penguin, one of the reasons why I want to go to Antarctica, my favorite animal on earth.

This video is hilarious but although I was happy to see the penguin safe I couldn’t help but think how the human species is interfering with nature, in the good and in the bad of course.

Anyway, please watch it and let me know your thoughts.

As for me, I am working towards my goal to be in Antarctica in about 2 years. Will I make it? follow me on  Instagram  and you will know.

3. Jacob’s Laukaitis

I am so glad I have bumped into Jacob’s channel, especially for this particular video about Mexico.

I always suggest renting a car and driving around this beautiful country as I believe it is the best way to explore it. I know it can be a little scary after all the news you hear about Mexico, but I have written an extensive post about  safety in Mexico  and how it is to  drive around Mexico , which will be helpful I am sure.

Anyway, for now, just enjoy Jacob’s video on his 28 days itinerary on the road.

4. Alex the Vagabond

Alex is taking you through his favorite travel destinations for the year 2020. (let’s take it as an omen that we can get back to travel soon).

Check it out.

5. Alex and Marko from Vagabrothers

Alex and Marko are two brothers (of course) who will inspire you with the most complete videos about the places they visit.

I love their style because it’s very simple with no fancy effect but they take you right inside all the cultural aspects of the destination, the history, the food, the people, it’s like listening to an audioguide while watching the pictures.

In the video I chose for you  they are taking us to Uzbekistan but you can check out all the other amazing videos from their channel.

Now sit back and relax for the next 20 minutes with the  Vagabrothers .

6. Ryan Shirley

I just found Ryan’s videos while browsing through YouTube and I loved them. They are very detailed with useful tips and spectacular images.  I could relate to him for being a slow traveler as he spent 3 years traveling around Europe and exploring his beautiful corners. In this video that I have picked, he tells us his favorite places in Europe.

7. Antoine Janssens

I love Antone’s style.

I have chosen his video on Costa Rica because I love wildlife, and the video is full of many details of the local species, portrayed in such a beautiful way. The music he uses helps create a dramatic scene that keeps you there with him. When the video is over, you feel like you want to see more. Check out the Life in the Artic video on his channel, mind-blowing.

lush tropical forest

In this exciting video, Alex Melis will take you around the world with breathtaking scenes of dreamy landscapes and adventurous trips. From snowcapped mountains to isolated waterfalls you can’t help but travel with your imagination.

Meli started to produce his videos for fun and is now a professional filmmaker. Check out his channel for more videos.

9. Tony Mcallister

I loved the way Tony portrayed Puerto Vallarta in this video. Spectacular close-ups on the local people and the city highlights, stunning time laps on sunsets, and bird eye view over the bay. This video has it all.

If you are planning a visit to Puerto Vallarta, check it out, but also you can read more on what to do and where to stay in my  Puerto Vallarta detailed guides.

10. Mind Boggler channel

You might want to skip this one if you have a fear of heights. In case it doesn’t bother you at least to watch a video, this is a  spectacular video on the most terrifying bridges of the world.

If you are not too sensitive, the scenes are indeed spectacular and worth watching.

Also, I am glad I found out about this channel, as they have so many interesting videos about extraordinary things and places in the world. Click on the “Mind Boggler” tag to see what other videos you may like.

And you? Are you afraid of heights or would you walk on one of those tall bridges without any fear?

11. Benn TK

Benn makes the most creative videos ever.

Do not get misled by the beginning because in every video it seems like he speaks about motivational stuff, but it’s just a few seconds, and then it’s all about the destination’s amazing sceneries, the people and the spectacular landscapes, all put together with amazing editing skills.

He uses many effects that are very well blended together and flow with the narrative structure of the video. You will love it. I was undecided about what to pick from his amazing videos. I chose Vietnam because it’s a place where I would love to travel one day, but I suggest you check the main page of his channel and watch them all.

12. Carlos Costa

Join Carlos and his crazy friends on their adventure in New Zealand. They will keep on the hook for the entire time. I couldn’t even breathe during the last scene. Got to check it out. Amazing videography, and now I want to go to New Zealand, maybe on a more tranquil journey.

13. Sailing Le Vagabond

A beautiful young couple sailing around the world on a romantic and adventurous trip.

What has started as an adventure it has now become their lifestyle. And now they even have a baby. They have amazing videos about their life on the water and the spectacular hidden gems they see. Watching their videos is like sailing away with them. Precious.

14. Mark Wiens

Mark is a travel Vlogger who loves chasing the unique culinary experience of the places he visits.

I chose this video about Pakistan because you can feel his enthusiasm for the delicious street food and the generosity of the people. His videos are genuine. He doesn’t focus on the transitions or other editing effects like many other videos that I shared.

Instead, he focuses more on the content and he takes you right inside the culture of the places he travels to.

It’s indeed one of my favorite travel Youtube channel to take virtual tours into the world.

a men stiring a huge pot of food

15. Mark Harrison

Mark is taking us on his 12-day adventure in Turkey.

I love his style because he switches between some useful information, funny real-life scene,s and spectacular scenery.

His video feels really authentic with no frills or fancy effects, but still, I believe, of professional quality.

I really enjoy it and, guess what? I want to go to Turkey right now.

16. Luke Martin

If you love street food this is your vlog. Luke is going to take us through every sort of market and street food place in Asia and Europe.

He takes you on a journey through the local specialties, their taste, and how they are made.

Interesting to learn about local cuisine and their culture.

17. The food ranger

And among the foodie travel bloggers, The Food Ranger, aka Trevor James,  is one of the most popular with almost 4 million subscribers.

In this video that I have picked, he’s showing us how they make noodles. I would have never imagined that it was such a handy job. After seeing this I am not sure I will eat noodles again. He will for sure.

18. Eva Zu Beck

I have finally found a woman travel blogger that I really like.

She is real and passionate about the history and the cultural aspects of the amazing places that she visits as a solo traveler. She makes amazing videos without the need to show her boobs or butt. It resonates a lot with me because that’s the way I love to travel, immerse in the culture, alone among locals, and, when possible in lesser-known places.

And of course, alone. She does it in a Middle east country where for a woman traveling solo is not that easy.

I am sure you will love her videos as much as I do.

a girl and a boy in a car driving

19. Kara and Nate

One of the most popular couple vloggers with more than 1 million subscribers.

Their videos are very personal but offer a good balance between their adventures and facts, not to mention the beautiful landscapes. Drones are the best inventions.

In the video that I chose they take us to a tiny little village in Norway where they stayed in a beautiful design hotel in the middle of nowhere.

tiny houses in the mountains

20. Drew Binsky

Drew is a real storyteller, he explores the essence of the countries he visits and digs into the people’s stories.

It’s fun and interesting to watch.

His short captivating videos look more like documentary clips and I was not surprised when he announced that he will be making a 1-hour documentary that includes a few selected countries that he has visited (including Jamaica, one of my home countries).

I can’t wait to see it but in the meantime let’s watch this one that I have selected about a Jew village in Ethiopia.

21. Backpacker Steve

Steve’s videos are quite straightforward and less personal than the others.

I wished he added more music, but I liked the simplicity of his narrative and the fact that he offers useful facts about the places, besides his own personal itinerary.

I am sharing his video on Cartagena because it’s one of the cities of Colombia that I have loved so much for its spectacular architecture and colonial vibe.

I am sure you will love his other videos too.

22. Chris Rogers

Chris specializes in professional sports action videos, not something that all of us can relate to, but still, I wanted to share this one specifically because it includes its 2 years of traveling with spectacular effects and breathtaking transitions from one scene to the other.

You might lose some calories while watching it as it feels like you are skiing or surfing with them.

Worth watching just for that.

23. Sam Kold

motion pictures

This guy is an absolute genius in editing and filming.

Because you need to be good in both to be able to deliver something amazing like this video about The wall of China, but not only.

Don’t get misled by the title. He will take you around Beijing and you will explore the city with them, take cooking class, hope on a motorbike and mingle with the locals.

This video is absolutely phenomenal.

However, while I was browsing through his channel I found this other one here below which almost made me cry ( not easy). It’s the story of his life and how the loss of his brother has deeply affected him. It’s a work of art. So moving but beautiful.

24. Justin Poore

I’ve got to share this video because it’s about one of my favorite cities in Mexico and probably my future hometown.

Justin is there for only 1 day but he picked the best spots to share in his video. Check it out and fall in love with the colorful colonial Oaxaca.

25. Mr Brynnorth

Africa’s sceneries are unbeatable; you cannot go wrong.  In this video, you will see the magnificent landscapes and wildlife of Kenia portrayed beautifully by Mr. Brynnorth, whose real name I don’t know 🙂

26. Stefan Zimmerman

Welcome to the dreamlike scenery of Scotland.

If you are a fan of Outlander you will love this video, and if you are not a fan, you will love it anyway. The music is soothing and relaxing as well. There is no voice-over. So you can sit back and chill while watching the spectacular landscapes of the Island of Sky and the Highlands.

The Best Background Music for Travel Videos: Royalty-Free & Legal

Table of contents, related reading.

DON'T CHAT WITH SUPPORT - WE DON'T OFFER MUSIC FOR YOUR VIDEOS.

Adding music to your travel videos can help to tell the story and spice it up to keep a viewer’s attention. Music can help a viewer to feel a certain way and immerse them into the travel experience you are sharing more fully.

It can also help to pace out the video and work to keep viewers engaged and interested. The right music can help to alter the audience’s perception of the video and foster an emotional connection.

It is important to ensure you have permission to use the songs in your travel video, however. Most commercial music is copyright protected, and you will need to get permission to use it. This can be a tricky process.

There are a lot of free and paid options that don’t require a copyright license, including royalty-free music. There are multiple providers and services that host royalty-free music that you can download for your travel video.

music and travel videos

Best Songs for Travel Videos

It is important to match your travel video or project to the music and vice versa. These are some of the best songs for travel videos:

  • ‘Dancing in the Streets of Barcelona’ by Ed Sheeran
  • ‘Paris’ by the Chainsmokers
  • ‘Have Love Will Travel’ by the Sonics
  • ‘Travelin’ Man’ by Ricky Nelson
  • ‘Wake Me Up’ by Avicii
  • ‘Car Song’ by Woody Guthrie
  • ‘Freedom (Instrumental)’ by Bamtone
  • ‘Bluegrass Foggy Mountain’ by Butch Roberts
  • ‘Travel’ by Kapitol
  • ‘Fly Away’ by Chantelle Berry

This is only a general list. While one song can be great for one travel video, it might not fit another. It is important to choose music that complements the video and does not take away or become a distraction from it.

Also, many of these songs are copyright protected, so you will need to find a royalty-free version or seek permission from the holder of the copyrights to use them legally.

How to Find What Music Best Fits My Travel Video

Music can help to tie your travel video together and elicit an emotional response in your viewer. It is important to consider what it is that you want your audience to feel. Once you identify that, music can help to set the mood, tone, and atmosphere for your video.

Music can influence consumer behavior and make people more inclined to buy what you are selling. When the music matches the product, views often increase.

Music for travel videos should be in the background and not take away from the video itself. You will need to choose music that helps your video to flow and is not jarring or distracting from the video content.

Music can help the audience to connect with your video, and the music should match the theme. For instance, if you are highlighting a ghost tour, thrilling music can be ideal. If it is a bright, sunny beach destination, the music should be more uplifting and happier.

Why Do I Need to Use Legally Downloaded Music for My Travel Video?

If you are going to post your travel video on social media, use it for commercial purposes, or stream it for people to see, you will need to use music that you have a legal right to play. If you do not have permission to use the music in the background of your video, you risk having it blocked or taken down, or facing legal issues.

Commercial music is protected by copyright laws, which means that you have to get permission from the copyright holders to use it without legal ramifications.

Most music requires at least two different copyright licenses: a master use license, which is for the actual sound recording, and a composition license, which protects the underlying musical composition.

Obtaining copyright licenses can be daunting, as you need to track down the holder of the copyrights directly. This can include the artist, composer, record label, or music producer.

Alternatives to copyright protected music include royalty-free music. With this type of music, a purchaser only needs to pay for the music license one time and no royalty fees are collected.

There are many providers of royalty-free music on the market that pay this fee for you. Often, you can pay a one-time fee, or a monthly or annual subscription fee, to access and use the music legally. Several of these sites and providers also offer this music for free as long as you credit the artist.

What Are My Options for Legal Music for My Travel Video?

There are options for using music legally in your travel video without tracking down copyright holders directly.

  • Royalty-free music: This is music that is hosted by a service that pays the licensing fees. You do not incur royalties every time you use the music. Generally, you will pay a one-time fee to use this music or pay for a subscription for unlimited access to the music libraries.
  • Public domain music: This is music published prior to 1927. It is copyright-free as the copyright has expired. This music can be used legally for free without a license.
  • Creative Commons licensed music: This music is free to use legally as long as you credit the artist or creator.
  • Personally created music: If you compose or create your own music, you own the rights to it and can use it as you wish.

Where to Download It?

Outside of copyrighted music, there are many service providers that host royalty-free and copyright-free music that you can download and use in your travel videos legally.

Free Services:

  • Public Domain 4U : This is a collection of free music in the public domain.
  • incompetech : This is royalty-free music that can be used for free if you credit the creator.
  • Bensound : Eligible music can be downloaded and used for free if you credit Bensound.
  • Dig ccMixter : This is Creative Commons music that can be used for free when you credit the musician.

Paid Services

  • Artlist : This is a library of royalty-free music for unlimited use with a paid subscription.
  • Soundstripe : With a paid subscription, you can gain unlimited access to the music library.
  • Storyblocks : This is a large library of royalty-free music you can have unlimited access to with a paid subscription.
  • Premium Beat by Shutterstock : With a one-time fee, you can purchase tracks from a large library.

Many of the service providers of royalty-free music will offer a free trial, so you can decide if the service will be worth the cost. From there, most work on either a monthly or an annual subscription.

A monthly subscription can cost between $10 and $20 on average. Often, if you choose the annual subscription and pay in full, you will pay a little less than this per month.

Other services will ask for a one-time fee for tracks, which can vary greatly in price, costing from as low as $1 per track all the way up to a few hundred dollars per track.

Tips for Choosing the Right Music for My Travel Video

When choosing music for your travel video, it is important to understand what you are trying to accomplish with your video. What do you want your viewer to feel, see, or do as a result of your video? Music can engage a viewer and help them feel as if they are in the place you are showing them.

The following tips can help you choose the best music for your video:

  • Understand and define the purpose of your video.
  • Choose music that fits the scenery and helps to set the mood.
  • Use music that remains in the background and does not detract from your visual components.
  • Find music that helps to set the pace and moves viewers through your video.
  • Use music to set the tone and atmosphere for your video.
  • Consider music from a specific location or cultural music if that is what your video is highlighting.

How do I find music for travel videos?

Music for travel videos can be found through a variety of service providers. You can choose from royalty-free or paid options.

Where can I get free background music for videos?

Look for music in the public domain, in Creative Commons, or music that only requires artist credit.

Can I use any music I want for my videos?

In short, no. You will need to ensure you have permission to use music in your video.

What happens if my music is copyrighted?

If the music you want to use is copyright protected, you will need to obtain the license to use it. The alternative is to find the same or similar music in a royalty-free library.

Why is music in travel videos important?

Music can help to create a more immersive experience for the viewer. It can increase viewership and the connection with your audience.

How to Find the Right Music for Travel Videos

Videos are one of the best marketing materials to promote travel products, such as tours, activities and attractions. A big part of it is thanks to the soundtrack, which makes us ask, how to find the right music for travel videos?

This type of media is more effective than plain text and images because of its capacity to elicit emotions in the viewer.

Before booking with you, your guests want a taste of the experience you offer. If they are able to feel the atmosphere of your tour through a video, the live feeling should be worth their money.

For example, a promo video of a safari should be exciting and fun. This is what a traveler wants to feel when getting close to wild animals.

Not for nothing that 79% of people use YouTube to search for travel inspiration . Also according to HubSpot, in 2019 video was the number one form of media used in content strategy .

You must be thinking: “Ok, video is great, I know that… how about finding the perfect music for my travel videos?”

We will get there, but before it’s good to understand why a great soundtrack matters. Or you can simply jump to the article section How to find the right music for travel videos.

Elements of a great travel video to promote your tours

To show the essence of your tours, your promo video should feature your tour guides working, your guests enjoying the experience, amazing footage of the destination, the local food, people and culture.

All these elements will generate emotions in your audience. But to evoke the right atmosphere that will result in bookings, besides high-quality images you also need a powerful soundtrack .

A Nielsen research found out that ads with some form of music perform better than others across four key metrics : creative, empathy, emotive, information.

how to find music for travel videos nielsen research

The perfect soundtrack matches the right feeling you want for the viewer. It generates the emotion you need for your guest to create a positive connection with your product .

For a ghost tour, you may want a thriller soundtrack. A museum tour, classic music could fit. When promoting a safari, some adventure music.

Take this Intrepid Travel video as a good example. The soundtrack they’ve chosen fits the theme of the video, it entices the right emotion at the same time it evokes a good feeling about the company .

Can I use any music I find in my videos?

The short answer is no .

Music is a type of work protected by copyright . It means its rights of reproduction, distribution, adaptation, public performance and public display are legally protected.

According to Copyright.gov :

Copyright is a type of intellectual property that protects original works of authorship as soon as an author fixes the work in a tangible form of expression

Be careful with the music you choose to play in your videos. If you don’t have the right permission, you can be penalized .

YouTube for example is constantly demonetizing videos and even shutting down channels that don’t respect the copyright law.

To avoid this headache you have essentially four options:

  • Use royalty free music : It gives users the right to use copyrighted music without having to pay “royalties” for recurring use of the content. you should pay a music license for that.
  • Use public domain music : This type of music is not protected by copyright and can be used without permission or without having to pay the original author/artist.
  • Use music under Creative Commons licenses : That means the music is free to use as long as you give credit to the author.
  • Produce your own music : This way you have all the rights once the music created is your property.

Now that you understand better the role of a soundtrack in a great promo video and how copyright works, let’s take a look at how to find the perfect music for your travel videos .

How to find the right music for travel videos

There are different platforms on the internet that you can use to find the right soundtrack for your videos.

Each one offers a different experience, music library, price plans and licensing options.

Here we will list six of them for you to find the right music for your travel videos.

1. Epidemic Sound

epidemic sound how to find music for travel videos

The platform offers a vast option of music styles. It counts with over 35,000 tracks and 90,000 sound effects that are royalty free. Their library size may sound overwhelming, but their search tools will help you easily find the right music for your travel videos.

artlist how to find music for travel videos

5. Amazon Music

amazon music how to find music for travel videos

Yes, that’s right! Amazon also has its own royalty free music library. Not a surprise at all, actually. There you can find around 1000 songs, and one of them might be perfect for your travel video.

Pricing: You can buy specific tracks for your videos starting at US$0.99. That is a great alternative to paying a monthly subscription.

jamendo how to find music for travel videos

Another royalty free platform with great background music options. You can search music by category, for example, travel. This makes your job of finding the right music for your travel videos way easier.

Pricing: Jamendo standard licensing gives you access to unlimited tracks and has a price of US$49/month. You can also buy single track licenses from US$9.99.

Extra Tip 1: Collaborate with professional artists

This is a great alternative to find the perfect background music for your videos in case you are tight on budget . By collaborating with an independent artist you are not only saving money but also supporting their work.

But where to find independent artists to partner with?

You can check out SoundCloud . On this platform artists from all over the world publish their work. All you need to do is to find the perfect soundtrack and contact the author for a partnership.

Extra Tip 2: Produce your own music

Are you a rock star? Perhaps not, but you might know how to play some instrument or maybe you have a friend who does.

Creating your own music is free and you can use its rights the way you want — because they are yours.

I suggest you take a look at the app GarageBand . It comes within any Apple device and it’s a good start point if you want to create your own music.

A memorable promo video is not complete without the right background music. The challenge is, how to find music for travel videos?

For that purpose, you can use royalty free sound platforms, public domain music libraries and, why not, create your own music.

Any of these will provide you high-quality material to create a video that will convert views into bookings for your tours.

“I have the perfect video, now what?”

How about using it as part of a great marketing strategy that will put your brand at the top of your customers’ minds?

Travelling solo in Europe: Discovering Top Destinations and Tips the Solo Travellers

Exploring new places can be a hit or miss, and travelling solo in Europe is no exception. It can be a great experience due to the abundance of beautiful destinations or a disaster due to loneliness or safety concerns.

Understanding that, we have this guide to help you choose destinations that suit your preferences. Plus, there are some extra tips to enhance your experience.

Best Places to Solo Travel in Europe

While it seems to be easy to randomly pick a destination, things might get difficult when you want the best solo travel destinations in Europe. Each country and each city has  a unique beauty you can’t find anywhere else . It is easy to get lost in the sea of information. Down here will be our 10+ recommendations to help you with your decisions.

music and travel videos

Spain is a great place for solo travellers to chase the winter sun. Photo by nonglak - stock.adobe.com

With countless things to offer, from beaches, festivals, architecture, etc. no surprise that Spain is one of the most popular spots for a solo Europe trip .

Spain will be an excellent destination whether you are outdoorsy or have a more artistic mindset that fancies art galleries and museums.

Other than popular destinations such as Barcelona, Madrid, or Granada. We recommend you try out some hidden gems: Andalusia - if you want to see houses built under a huge rock, Costa Brava - for people who wish to escape Barcelona for a tranquil atmosphere and many more.

Fun fact : In Spanish, there is this word: “ vacilando ”. When somebody is vacilando , that person is heading toward a destination but doesn’t care whether they can get there. We think this word, to some extent, can give us some context into how Spanish culture is.

Italy provides countless options for exploration and enjoyment. Photo by Dan Novac on Unsplash

Yes, pizza, pasta, or gelato will be much more delicious here. But good food is not everything. With ancient architecture preserved almost perfectly, such as the Pantheon or the Sistine Chapel, Italy might be the perfect country to get you the trip back to history.

Even though it is a little bit far from these places to Milan, spending some extra effort for the fashion capital is worth it. If you are an art lover, Italy is just a no-brainer.

However, be aware that Italy is costly to travel to, especially if you are planning a solo holiday around Europe . Plan your itinerary carefully to correctly budget the trip.

3. Portugal

Explore the allure and allure of Portugal. Photo by Nick Karvounis on Unsplash

Tired of the hustle and bustle and looking for a laid-back time? Portugal is one of the best solo travel destinations in Europe for you. Plus, it’s among the safest places in the world .

You can just relax in a resort or wander around your accommodation instead of visiting popular places. However, there is one thing we still want you to explore: Portuguese cuisine.

With the focus on fresh seafood, grilled meats, and hearty stews, Portuguese cuisine really brings out the rich and diverse flavour of the ingredients. Some must trys are bacalhau (salt cod), pastel de nata (custard tart), and porco preto (Iberian black pork), etc.

Of course, there are great places you can visit, like the Dom Luís I Bridge in Porto or the Belem Tower and the Ribeira Palace in Lisbon. However, we assure you that all you need for a magnificent experience are a glass of wine and a balcony to sit in this beautiful and historic country.

Germany is a great destination if you are interested in history, culture, or cuisine. Photo by Nick Karvounis on Unsplash

Visiting German is a must if you plan a solo Europe trip. The nation is the opposite of Portugal because of its vibrant mood. With 51 UNESCO World Heritage sites, there will always be something for you to explore in Germany. Even after multiple trips, let alone if this is your first time.

We believe you all heard about Oktoberfest in Munich. Besides drinking beers and getting on with the locals, you can try out some traditional German foods.

Or you can hang around the carnival with numerous games and rides. Most of the time, there will be a lot of singing. It is truly a fun-filled festival.

If, for some reason you have watched those videos about the German language and how angry it sounds, you will be surprised to come to this country. German people are amicable and love to share their social life and experience. Try to talk with some locals, it is the best way to learn about the culture in Germany.

music and travel videos

Come and experience the rich history, breathtaking beauty, and Mediterranean cuisine. Photo by Patrick on Unsplash

With the rich, arguably the richest, cultural heritage, including mythology, music, dance, and art, Greece is an attractive solo holiday destination in Europe .

The hospitality of Greeks is similar to the Germans but more well-known. If you have a chance to get acquainted with local people and visit their homes, you will be welcomed with traditional treats. Usually, a small plate of sweets is accompanied by a cup of coffee. These traditional treats are called “Glyká”, directly translated to “sweets” in English.

Also, Greece is believed to have some of the most beautiful beaches in the world : Santorini, Mykonos, and Corfu. Try to visit at least one when you come to this country.

Even though there are a lot of expensive places in Greece, the country is considered a budget-friendly destination. You don’t need to spend too much time in the country to experience Greece. Beaches are accessible, traditional food is cheap, and visiting archaeological sites is affordable if you don’t hire a guide.

France is a nation full of romance, natural beauty, and adventure. Photo by Chris Karidis on Unsplash

No explanation is needed for why France is world-famous as a romantic destination for couples. But of course, as a destination for solo female travel to Europe , it is a safe bet.

If there ever is a heaven for food on earth, it would be in France. French cuisine has always played a significant role in the culinary world. Every food lover should come to this country, and your culinary endeavour, if it has never been, will be finally satisfied.

Even though the food is alluring, spare some time to visit the Louvre Museum. It is the world's largest museum and the home of numerous famous paintings. The Mona Lisa or the Liberty Leading the People, to name just a few.

If you plan to stay in France long , we suggest adding visiting castles to your itinerary. It would be almost impossible to see all the castles, but staying in some of them is possible. Yes, you read it correctly. Some castles allow you to do so to better appreciate the beauty of these places .

7. Netherlands

music and travel videos

Bike through charming towns and cities and take in the welcoming spirit of the Netherlands. Photo by Javier M. on Unsplash

The Netherlands is a wonderful country with breathtaking views almost everywhere you go, from architecture like cathedrals to nature like rivers, canals, etc.

Especially flowers. There, there are fields and fields of tulips. They come in many colours – red, green, yellow, etc. you name it. Mid-April is the best time for a solo Europe trip to the nation if you are a tulip lover.

The Netherlands is the perfect place to cycle. With flat landscapes, beautiful weather, well-built roads, etc., nothing can stop you from getting on the bike. Even when travelling alone around Europe, nature in the Netherlands will be a lovely companion you don’t know you want.

Pay attention to small bike paths. They will lead you to hidden gems that are inaccessible to cars. If you don’t have too much time to spare in this country, we recommend Amsterdam. Get there, take a walk, and enjoy one of the most colourful cities on this planet .

Denmark, where exquisite design, architecture, and cuisine coexist together. Photo by Febiyan on Unsplash

This Scandinavia country is consistently ranked one of the happiest and safest places in the world. It is plausible to say that Denmark is up there on the list of best solo travel destinations in Europe.

Stay true to its Scandinavia energy. It is not difficult for you to find castles, ruins, monuments, etc., across Denmark.

The country is famous for the " hygge " concept, which refers to a cosy and fulfilled feeling. This feeling is spread across the country, whether in a vibrant cafe, a restaurant, or a park. It’s all about enjoying the good things in life with good people.

The food here is very fresh and healthy, with many seasonal options. We recommend the Torvehallerne food markets in Copenhagen, a fantastic place to discover local foods. If you are already in Copenhagen, Tivoli Garden - the 3rd oldest amusement park is a must-see.

9. Czech Republic

music and travel videos

Take in the breathtaking architecture, savour the famed beer and the country's illustrious past. Photo by Rodrigo Ardilha on Unsplash

Speaking of castles, over 2,000 of them are waiting for you in the Czech Republic. Thus, it is the perfect spot for people who love history and architecture.

In fact, due to its rich history and culture, Prague is one of the most visited cities in Europe. Even if you are under a strict schedule, Prague is still an available option because of its short distance from major cities like Berlin (Germany), Krakow (Poland), or Vienna (Austria). The nation is the best starting point for your solo trip to Europe .

If you have time and love to explore, visit Bohemian Paradise. Located in the north of the country, Bohemian Paradise - the 1st natural reserve of the Czech Republic - is the home of sandstone rock labyrinths, hiking traits, and the incredible Bozkov dolomite caves. The last of which is where you can find Czechia’s largest underground lake.

Bonus : There are many unusual things to do in the Czech Republic. You can sleep in a nuclear bunker with a capacity of 500 people. Visit ossuaries where old bones are stored – Kutna Hora has bones of more than 40,000 people. Or take a tour of Prague’s Sex Machine Museum, which displays devices dating back to the 1500s.

10. Ireland

music and travel videos

Ireland offers visitors a wealth of natural beauty and kind friendliness. Photo by Jason Murphy on Unsplash

Ireland is the most famous country if we are talking about the landscape. If you come to this country, don’t miss the Wild Atlantic Way. It is a 2600–kilometre tourist trail - yes, it is the longest coastal driving route in the world - features more than 150 discovery points and 1,000 attractions.

This road alone is enough for you to visit Ireland over and over again. But Ireland has the Coastal Causeway Route as well. Even though it is shorter, with a length of 313 kilometres, the Coastal Causeway Route still has much to offer; from beaches and castles to numerous locations where they film the famous Games of Thrones series.

If you enjoy history, Ireland will not disappoint with its stunning castles and historic landmarks, including the mediaeval Blarney Castle, famed for the Blarney Stone, and Newgrange's prehistoric stone structures are even older than Stonehenge and the Egyptian pyramids.

Ireland is also a paradise for the most outstanding hotels. According to the Reader's Choice Awards in 2016 of the Condé Nast Unveils, three Irish hotels were included (with the Ballyfin Demesne Hotel coming out on top of the list). They are worth checking out on your next solo trip to Europe.

11. United Kingdom

music and travel videos

The United Kingdom is a country full of diversity and excitement. Photo by Sander Crombach on Unsplash

Here in the United Kingdom, there are various unique historic architectures to visit: Abbotsbury Abbey, Amberley Castle, Antony House, Alfred’s Tower, etc.

Don’t worry if you are not a fan of history. The United Kingdom is the perfect balance between the old and the new. For a taste of European city life, London or Manchester won’t disappoint you.

The countryside is also equally impressive. You will have a lovely time taking scenic walks or getting some horseback rides, just like in those fascinating movies. If you are a Potterhead, try to find some filming locations across the nation.

Similar to Denmark, the United Kingdom, with its low levels of crime, will be a great destination for solo female travellers in Europe . For anybody who enjoys sports, you know how serious people in the United Kingdom are about this.

Solo travel in Europe tips

Even though it is familiar to a lot of people, solo travel might still be scary to first-timers.

While a journey with friends and families ensures sweet and memorable moments, travelling alone in Europe is the opportunity to explore new places without any restrictions.

Travelling alone not only helps you to know more about the world but also about yourself. Speaking from our experience, travelling solo, as cliché as it might sound, is truly a life-changing experience.

Hoping you can have the same experience, we have prepared a list of our tips and tricks to enhance your journey.

1. Embracing the fact that you are being alone

There is no better opportunity to meet new and diverse people than travelling. It is normal for you to stay with your circle in your daily life. But try to step out of your comfort zone while travelling. You will have unforgettable moments on your first solo Europe trip.

During your journey, try to start some conversation with the locals. Maybe ask them about the culture, about the social life, and some recommendations as well. For the most part, they know more about the area than any guides on the internet.

If you are staying in a guest house, try to approach people in the kitchen. Who knows, you might end up having a wonderful meal with wonderful people.

While wandering on the street, you might want to approach small-shop owners. Usually, they are familiar with visitors from another country and willing to have small talks.

2. Plan, but only roughly

music and travel videos

Just a few checkpoints will be enough. Photo by Volodymyr Hryshchenko on Unsplash

The best thing about travelling to Europe alone is freedom, and you should take advantage of it. It is a good idea to have a general idea about what to do in the area, accommodation prices, or purchase a plane ticket beforehand. But you don’t need to prepare more than that.

When you arrive at the destination, you will have numerous opportunities to understand the area more. Then you will be able to get a feeling of things that you want to do. Don’t let the strict itinerary stop you from doing so!

A lot of places on our list are very enjoyable, even when you just simply take a walk. The reason is there are always new things for you to see and explore. Sometimes, not planning is the best plan you can have.

Maybe, if you follow our 1st trip and be able to make some new friends, you might even want to change the entire direction of your trip. It will be a bummer if you have to say goodbye to them because you’ve already booked something.

3. Pack light

Even for normal trips, it is highly recommended to have a  travel packing list  to avoid overpackaging. It becomes even more important when travelling alone.

The less stuff you bring, the more freedom you can have. Try to limit yourself to one suitcase and one  quality backpack . This is just the right amount for many people and can easily last you a week or so.

Make sure to check the weather condition or the types of activities you might encounter to better prepare. Again, remember tip number two. Only prepare roughly.

4. There are several ways to get around

It will vary among countries. However, usually, there are three ways to travel alone around Europe: flights, trains, or  renting a car . For flights and trains, the tickets would normally be cheaper if you book in advance.

Remember that you don’t need a fancy car, just a normal and functioning one to get around. Try to save money for local food, for the experience that you can not get elsewhere.

Most European countries have advanced public transport. We advise getting a travel or train pass for a cost-effective way of getting around. But if you are in the Netherlands, you can try cycling around the country. Lovely nature it has!

5. Stay connected

We know that we have just said that you should embrace being by yourself, but it does not mean cutting the connection with people in your daily life. This becomes even more crucial when you are a solo female traveller in  Europe.

Make sure you have one, preferably several, ways to connect with people you trust. Consider purchasing a  local SIM card  or some mobile plan to stay connected while on the go.

For extra safety, before you go to less crowded places like a forest, an island, etc. let somebody you trust know that. In that way, in case of an emergency, they know where to find you.

6. Get travel insurance

On the topic of safety, consider purchasing travel insurance. You don’t want to come to the best solo travel destination, and then accidents happen. Especially if you are about to have a long trip, unexpected events might occur anytime. Some insurances can help reimburse you for losses due to natural disasters, illness, accidents, etc.

Some insurances focus more on your belongings and will pay you when your luggage gets lost, stolen, etc. Make sure to read the policies carefully since they can be very different from one insurance provider to another. It will be long, but it is worth spending the effort.

7. Experience the localness

music and travel videos

Prioritising local experience is a good idea. Photo by Roxanne Desgagnés on Unsplash

Trying local cuisine and learning about the customers are essential aspects of immersing yourself in the area. It is probably the only way to actually “travel”. When travelling alone and not bound to any plan, you should take advantage of the opportunities as much as possible.

Even for well-known dishes, the locals certainly hold the secret recipes to lead you to entirely different experiences.

Learning about the local customs can help you gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of every aspect of the area. We recommend learning some basic phrases in the local language as well.

We have never seen a local who does not smile hearing a foreigner speaking their language. Don’t worry if you get it wrong. It is the effort that counts.

8. Be cautious

It is easy to be absorbed in the fun while travelling, but be sure to put your safety on top of everything. Be aware of your surroundings, especially at night and in deserted places. Fancy as they are, tourist destinations are the most popular place for thieves, pickpockets, etc.

Always store your belongings carefully and avoid carrying too much cash . Try to use cashless payments instead. Another tip is having cash or multiple cards in more than one place.

Don’t drink too much, and have fun responsibly. We recommended making new friends but avoiding going alone with strangers. Before knowing them well, if you are asked, say that you are here to visit a relative or a friend. To others, you never have a solo trip.

While walking down the street, if you feel like you are being followed or just feel uncomfortable, get in a public or well-lit space. A coffee shop or a restaurant where there is a large group of people is a good idea.

9. Be Mindful Of the Moment

Technology has helped us to improve the quality of our lives significantly. Travelling, of course, is not an exception. From maps, reviews, translation apps, etc., you name it.

However, remember to use it wisely. We know it is tempting to use your phone to take all the pictures and film all the videos, but try to be present at the moment. Understandably, we can be excited to capture things to share them with others, especially during a solo trip. But would it be a shame if we missed the experience ourselves?

10. Take a break

music and travel videos

Don’t overuse your favourite equipment. Photo by Joseph Pearson on Unsplash

You are in a foreign area, and your time is limited, so you should try to go out as much as possible. No, it is not true at all. Taking a break is also an essential part of travelling.

It is essential to let your body rest and refresh your energy level. It is the only way to ensure that the next time you go out, you can fully enjoy the experience.

You don’t have to go to popular spots every day. You can just take a day off, wander in the local area, see what the locals are doing, and think about what you want to do next.

Isn’t that the beauty of travelling alone to a beautiful continent like Europe? No plan, no expectation, just you and yourself. By doing this, you can avoid feeling overwhelmed and have a more fulfilling journey.

Can a woman travel alone in Europe?

music and travel videos

Europe is a dream destination for many. Photo by Blue Planet Studio - stock.adobe.com

Yes, and there are many great choices for first-time solo female travellers. Unfortunately, females are still viewed as more vulnerable targets, hence the higher risks.

Besides being cautious and following the tips that we have mentioned, we have some more curated specifically for our female readers.

1. Respect the local customs

It is very sad to say that in certain countries, there are certain expectations on how women dress from the locals. For example, in some areas (more common in rural areas) in Italy or Greece, women are expected to dress modestly with their shoulders and knees covered.

2. Scams and theft

As mentioned earlier, women may be seen as vulnerable targets, especially to theft. Generally speaking, women are physically weaker than men. Being extra careful does not seem extra anymore.

3. Take care of your drinks

With the easy accessibility of different types of drugs, it is difficult to purchase aphrodisiacs these days. Unfortunately, these drugs come in various types. You might not even realise seeing one with your own eyes. Take care so that others can’t spike your drinks.

1. Is it safe to travel solo in Europe?

Generally speaking, yes, Europe is widely considered a safe destination for travellers. However, that does not mean you should completely let yourself loose. Remember to stay alert and be cautious with your actions. Most European people are friendly, but all it takes is one person to leave you with a bitter memory.

2. What documents do I need to travel?

Travelling alone to Europe does not require different documents in comparison to other destinations. Here is a simple list for you to consider:

  • Passport or visas (depending on travel destination)
  • Health insurance information
  • Travel insurance proof
  • Emergency contact information
  • Travel itinerary (including flight, hotel, and transportation information)
  • Ski lift tickets or passes (if purchased in advance)
  • Car rental or transportation documents
  • International driving permit (if applicable)

3. How can I stay within my budget while travelling solo in Europe?

In most cities in Europe, especially cities that are popular with tourists, there are budget hotels. You would be amazed how much cheaper these hotels are compared to traditional ones.

You can also consider finding a place where there is a kitchen. In that way, you can cook your meals instead of eating out every day. However, we still recommend trying local food as much as possible. Different from restaurants, local food is typically cheap.

4. What are some cultural differences to be aware of when travelling solo in Europe?

music and travel videos

Local people, especially shop owners, are great guides. Photo by Markus Winkler on Unsplash

In comparison with other continents, Europe might be one of the most diverse ones. It is important to be aware of the local customs and etiquette. Don’t be afraid to ask if you are unsure of something. We believe the locals will be glad to explain and help you fit in.

Again, we want to remind you, you are not alone even if you are travelling without companions.

5. How long can I stay in Europe?

The length of time you can stay will vary depending on several factors: nationality, trip purpose, visa requirements, etc. If you are a citizen of an EU country, there is no restriction on the time you can stay.

However, if you are not and come to Europe for a business trip or travelling, you can stay up to 90 days without needing a visa. After that, you must apply for one of many types of visas. Our recommendation is  the European Golden Visa  due to its great medical, educational, and tourism benefits.

Final words

We believe travelling solo in Europe now has become so much easier for you. There is no need to worry too much, travelling is an opportunity for you to enjoy.

Please let us know which country will be your destination below! Hope you have a great trip. Believe us, you will.

Wildwood: Everything you need to know about the beaches and things to do there this summer

Do you need a beach tag when is the barefoot country music festival and other important information you need to know about one of the most iconic jersey shore towns..

MIchaela Althouse

Wildwood officials declared a state of emergency and shut down the boardwalk early Monday morning due to "an irrepressible number of calls for service" that amounted to "civil unrest" during the weekend.

With one of the top boardwalks in New Jersey, there's no way you can head to Wildwood and skip the two miles of 'Watch the tramcar, please!' and stretchy saltwater taffy.

But there's plenty more to the shore town than the arcade games and T-shirt stands. Wildwood is a New Jersey classic, keeping it's vintage motel feel while offering plenty of space for laying out in the sand, plus tons of festivals, concerts and events and activities.

Whether you're heading there for a specific event, a day-trip or a weeklong family vacay, here's a guide to visiting Wildwood, New Jersey.

What are some things to do in Wildwood this summer?

When planning your trip to Wildwood, the calendar published online by the Wildwoods Tourism Authority is a good place to start. It lists events and activities going on in Wildwood, as well as Wildwood Crest and North Wildwood . Below are some highlights:

Country music fans flock to the Barefoot Country Music Festival   from June 20-23 . The 2024 lineup for the four-day event includes include Keith Urban, Kane Brown, the War and Treaty, the Beach Boys and other acts.

Fourth of July in Wildwood is stacked, kicking off the morning with a  Patriotic Pooch Parade for dogs at 9:00 a.m . followed by a dance party at the Bryne Plaza in the evening (and hopefully barbeques with friends and family in-between). The day ends with fireworks at 10:00 p.m.

The summer New Jersey Jeep Invasion ,  from July 12-14, on Rio Grande Avenue beach feature vendors, a beach obstacle course and over 2,500 Jeeps. Competitors from all over head to Wildwood for the largest Ultimate Frisbee beach tournament in the world on July 27 and 28 .

Wildwood also has a of recurring events like its  weekly farmers market at Byrne Plaza and yoga on the beach .

Wildwood is best know for its boardwalk with amusement parks, the tram car, arcades, stores and restaurants. Grab some fries and salt water taffy and play skee ball or mini golf or get an old timey photo. The Wildwood Boardwalk is open to bike riders until noon, though it's less crowded earlier in the morning before he boards get more crowded.

Water parks like Morey’s Piers' Ocean Oasis  and Raging Waters are options for cooling off without navigating the hot sand of Wildwood's enormous beach.

The town is full in vintage motel vibes with neon and mid-century modern designs, all of which vacationers can learn more about at the Doo Wop Preservation League's museum with its Neon Sign Garden . The museum tells the history of Wildwood in 1950s and 1960s, also leads tours around town to view Wildwood unique architecture.

Do you need a beach tag in Wildwood?

A GROUP of 21 staff at London Luton Airport performed Joel Corry’s hit ‘Head & Heart’ to signal the arrival of Radio 1’s Big Weekend, which is kicking off in Luton’s Stockwood Park this Friday.

Led by celebrity choreographer, Remi Black – who has previously worked with six-time BRITS award-winner and R1BW headliner RAYE - the routine took several hours to perfect and featured high-vis vests, headphones, and illuminated signaling wands.

London Luton Airport (LLA) as it prepares for Radio 1’s Big Weekend (R1BW) in Luton with a one-off runway dance

Supported by colleagues from across the airport and talented local dancers from Luton College and Next Gen Youth Theatre, the wands and multi-coloured LED sticks lit up the runway - turning the heads of passengers landing and waiting to take off nearby.

Neil Thompson, chief operations officer at London Luton Airport, said: "As Radio 1’s Big Weekend descends upon our town, our teams have been going the extra mile to ensure a simple, friendly and welcoming experience for every act and passenger passing through the airport.

“Inspired by the Radio 1 dance stage, our staff have been marshalling in aircraft with an extra bounce and shuffle as we gear up to welcome thousands of visitors to Luton.

“It’s all hands on deck to make this weekend an unforgettable experience for everyone and show just how proud we are to be a part of the celebrations.”

Struggling UK airport to welcome new easyJet base with 6 new flight routes

The energetic routine was designed to give a warm welcome to passengers and international stars landing in Luton.

Staff at the airport eagerly anticipate the arrival of those set to perform over the weekend - with the likes of Coldplay , Sabrina Carpenter and Becky Hill all about to hit the stage.

For talent wheeling through, the airport is introducing a unique service for acts to call ahead with their riders.

Van Halen’s iconic 'no brown' M&Ms will be offered as a complimentary snack in an effort to provide artists with a simple and friendly welcome to Luton.

As one of the UK’s most popular music festivals, attracting global artists, with thousands in attendance and millions watching on television , Radio 1’s Big Weekend is set to be one of Luton’s biggest weekend in recent times.

Aaron Salfairso, operational duty manager at the airport, said: “It's been great to bring a bit of flair to the role and bring a smile to passengers’ faces, while ensuring everything at the airport continues to run like ‘clockwork’ - which we’re sure Coldplay would appreciate.”

Inspired by some of the headline acts, the performance ‘signals’ the start of the much-anticipated festival and sees the LLA team join forces with celebrity choreographer Remi Black.
