We believe that the bicycle you ride will be a critical factor in how much you enjoy your trip with Randonnée Tours, which is why we continue to invest in the best, most suitable bikes for the trips we offer. We have the largest number of bike and equipment depots of European & North American tour operators because we believe in storing our bikes locally, which saves us the expense of crisscrossing countries delivering bikes. Our objective is simple: no matter where you go, to offer you a high-quality, reliable, light and comfortable bicycle.
The vast majority of our fleet is composed of Cannondale and custom bikes built to our specifications. You can choose between performance hybrid bikes with flat handlebar; racing bikes with dropped handlebar. In most regions we now also have e-bikes available. On our Camino de Santiago trips only, we offer Cannondale and Conor mountain bikes with front suspension and hydraulic disc brakes. We have selected the specs of our bikes carefully to ensure that you will enjoy long days cruising along the Danube River, challenging yourself on the Mont-Ventoux climbs or drafting locals on the rolling hills of Catalonia. For your comfort and peace of mind, our dedicated team of mechanics and guides will ensure that your bike is tuned and adjusted for you.
Although most of our hybrid rental bikes have rear racks and handlebar bags, we cannot guarantee these are on all hybrid bikes in all locations.

Which bike and type of pedals should you choose?
We always recommend that you choose what you are used to and comfortable with. If racing bikes with dropped handlebar and clip-in pedals are new for you and tempting, try them on short rides at home to get used to the position and feel.

- spare inner tube
- tire levers
- water bottle holders (small and X-small frames might only fit one)
WATER BOTTLE
A Randonnée Tours water bottle will be either provided to you before the tour or at the start.
HANDLEBAR BAG
Most of our handlebar bags are Vaude Road II. They have a volume of nine liters (21 x 27 x 17 cm) and offer enough storage space for personal items, compact camera, wallet, cell phone, snacks, and a compact wind jacket. We strongly believe that traveling light make the rides and explorations more enjoyable. If you feel like the handlebar bag is not enough, you are free to bring and ride with a backpack or panniers.
Like those on most mountain bikes, hybrid bike seats are not as thin and hard as those on road bikes and not as wide and thick as seats on city bikes. During the bike fitting if you feel like the seat is too firm, inform the guides. We have spare extra comfort seats at all our depots. If you are particular about your bike seat and wish to bring it along, don’t hesitate to do so! If you do bring your own seat, do not bring the seatpost because it may not be the same diameter to fit into the frame seat tube. Also, be certain to know how to remove it as the Area Manager might not be with you when you depart and you will have to remove your seat from the bike yourself.
Upon registration, you can choose the type of pedal you would like your bike to be equipped with. If you want to use clip-in pedals, please bring your own pedals.
For the GPS enthusiasts we now provide GPS through the RideWithGps app. If using your smartphone to access the app, be sure to bring a device to attach to the bike (we recommend Quadlock Case) and a portable battery charger.
TANDEM BIKES
In most regions we can source tandems at an additional cost. Please contact us directly for any inquiries.
In most regions we can source bikes for kids ages 10 and up. Please contact us directly for any inquiries.
TRAIL-A-BIKE
This may be the best solution to go on a self-guided trip with children between the ages of 5 and 9 (up to 85 pounds). The trail a bike attaches to an adult bike and provides a chance for your child to ride with you. We stock the Burley Piccolo model in several regions. Please contact us directly for any inquiries.
ACCESSORIES NOT INCLUDED
We require that you bring your own helmet for safety and hygiene reasons. Although wearing a helmet is not required by law in most countries we go, we strongly encourage you to wear one. We believe that the easiest way to travel with a bike helmet is to attach the helmet to your hand luggage/day pack as carry-on luggage in order to save space in your suitcase.
Our bicycles are not equipped with odometers. From our experience, we found that for the majority of our clients, (contrary to our expectations) odometers made route finding more of a challenge. Should you wish to use an odometer, please bring your own from home and attach for the duration of your trip, but please remove it afterwards. Our route descriptions indicate the distance between each instruction and the cumulative distance for the day. The distances are rounded to facilitate the reading and for indication only. There is enough additional information (type of intersection, landmark, road sign, direction…) in the instructions to find the route without knowing with precision the distance traveled since the last instruction. And if using RideWithGps, you will always know where you are and can use as an odometer also.
For insurance reasons, we are no longer able to provide panniers. If you want to use panniers for your trip and feel the handlebar bag will not offer you enough space, you are free to bring your own but please note that only the hybrid bikes have rear racks capable of holding panniers.
In regions where we do not own bikes (yet), we source the best available and these are of comparable quality standards to our own fleet.

Hiking Guided
A guided small group hiking holiday is ideal for travellers who prefer the camaraderie of like-minded, active individuals, and appreciate the local knowledge imparted by expert guides. Your hiking guide is with you from the time your tour commences until it concludes. On a guided hiking tour you’ll share memories and laughs with travellers from around the world who also appreciate the benefits of exploring Canada by foot.
On all of our group hiking tours, we’ve done our best to lighten your load as much as possible. On some tours, this means hiking with just a day pack and returning to a comfortable hotel at night, or having luggage and group gear transferred to the next campsite. On others, it means carrying a full backpack for a portion of the trip, or for the full duration of the hike, but with food drops and/or extra porterage to reduce pack weight.
During camping-based hikes, our experienced guides seemingly perform magic by preparing incredible camp meals each day. Camping-based tours are generally partially-supported, requiring some group participation such as setting up and taking down camp. When accommodated – whether at a charming country inn, guesthouse, atmospheric hotel, B&B, or remote mountain hut – you will enjoy a friendly, local atmosphere that compliments your Canadian wilderness experience.
Depending on your chosen destination and style of hiking tour, the maximum group size ranges from just 6 to 12 participants, meaning you can always enjoy the peaceful surroundings of nature and an intimate wilderness experience.
Our guided hiking holidays are a great way to hike Canada's more remote trails and discover untrodden treasures in the safety and comfort of a small group and with an expert local leader.

Discovery & Cruising
These are our least demanding trips. These journeys of discovery and cruises involve little or no extended activity and are suitable for people with a basic level of fitness and good health. The itinerary may take place in remote areas (with basic facilities) and may involve long travel days on various types of transport. Sightseeing may be conducted on foot and all participants should be capable of carrying their own luggage from vehicle to hotel rooms. These adventures rarely involve camping.
Adventure Touring
These adventure tours may visit remote areas where facilities are often basic. Some of these trips involve camping or basic lodging. These adventure tours will sometimes involve long journeys and rough roads. Sightseeing and optional day walks are often included and these days may involve up to 5 hours of physical activity.
These trips involve trekking or walking, cycling, or paddling for up to five or six hours a day at a slow but steady pace and should never be misinterpreted to mean they are easy trips. Hikes are mainly on well-defined trails with undulating terrain and cycling is on mostly flat surfaces.
These trips involve a combination of what is described in our Introductory and Moderate levels. The emphasis is on introductory activity with some moderate components. Hiking trips typically require carrying a daypack only, but could involve carrying a pack of up to 20 pounds (9kg), depending on personal gear.
These adventures involve trekking, cycling, or paddling for up to 6 or 7 hours a day at a steady pace. Many moderately graded hiking trips involve the carrying of a daypack only, though some may involve carrying a backpack of up to 30 pounds (14kg), depending on personal gear. Hikers should be prepared for plenty of roots, rocks, significant elevation gain, wilderness camping, and potential variable weather conditions. Cyclists should be prepared for undulating terrain and some steep hills.
Moderate to Challenging
These trips involve a combination of what is described in our Moderate and Challenging levels. The emphasis is on moderate activity with some challenging components. Hikers should be prepared for very rugged off-trail hiking, significant elevation gain, wilderness camping, and to carry a pack weighing up 45 pounds (20kg), depending on personal gear.
Challenging
These adventures involve trekking, cycling or paddling in remote areas in variable weather conditions for up to 8 to 10 hours a day (possibly more subject to weather conditions and altitude). Hikers should be prepared for very rugged off-trail hiking, significant elevation gain, wilderness camping, and to carry a pack weighing up to 45 pounds (20kg), depending on personal gear.
These journeys of discovery and cruises are suitable for people with a basic level of fitness and good health.
Suggested preparation: Once or twice a week, we recommend you walk on undulating terrain for an hour, for at least 2-3 months prior to departure.
To enjoy these adventures, we suggest you are reasonably fit, healthy, have a moderately active lifestyle and have a positive attitude.
Suggested preparation: Two or three times a week, we recommend you walk on undulating terrain for an hour or more, for at least 3 months prior to departure.
Our introductory trips are not ‘easy’ trips and you will need a reasonable level of fitness and good health.
Suggested preparation: 30 minutes of aerobic exercise (either cycling or jogging) three times a week for 3 months leading up to your trip.
On these adventures you will need a good level of fitness and be in good health.
Suggested preparation: We recommend 45 minutes of aerobic exercise three times a week from a minimum of 3 months leading up to your trip. This can include swimming, jogging, hard walking or cycling. For hiking trips, hill or stair walking with a 15lb daypack is highly recommended at least once per week.
These adventures require a good level of fitness and be in good health.
Suggested preparation: 1 hour of aerobic exercise, three to four times a week and extended periods of exercise during the weekend. This can include swimming, jogging, hard walking or cycling. For hiking trips, hill or stair walking with a full day pack is strongly recommended at least once per week (or a 30lb pack for backpacking trips).
These trips require an excellent level of fitness and be in good health.
Suggested preparation: 1 hour of aerobic exercise, four to five times per week for three to six months leading up to departure. Hill walking with a full pack in variable weather conditions or on/off road cycling is essential.
On these adventures, you will need to be completely comfortable in adverse weather conditions, have an excellent level of fitness and be in good health.
The exact inclusions and equipment for each of our adventures is listed once you've found the trip you want. Our trips are generally more inclusive than others in the market place in line with our philosophy of minimising 'extra payments' displayed outside of the main trip price as well as out of pocket expenses once you reach your destination.

When is the Best Time to Hike in Canada
Canada is a truly outstanding all-year-round destination with amazing hikes to enjoy regardless of season (yes, even in the winter!). While temperatures are more pleasant in the shoulder seasons, spring and fall, the winter season brings a whole new scenery with snow blanketing the trails. In the summer, hikers can enjoy plenty of lake dips to cool down on hot days and bursting wildflower fields, but trails can be busy and overrun with tourists.

Castle Provincial Park is new, but growing in popularity for its fascinating archaeological and historically significant sites. And Waterton Lakes is tucked away where the prairies meet the Rocky Mountains and home to a bit of everything.
Over in British Columbia, Kootenay National Park forms one of seven parks that connects the Canadian Rocky Mountain Parks World Heritage Site. Yoho National Park is often overlooked, but is an adventure enthusiasts dream with options for hiking, biking, or skiing. In Whistler , this iconic ski destination offers fantastic training trails and is just a quick drive from Vancouver. Strathcona Provincial Park is tucked away on Vancouver Island remains a bit of a hidden gem, we won’t tell if you won’t! Finally, Vancouver’s North Shore isn’t to be missed, with stunning beach fronts and challenging trails.

Best Hikes in Canada
Lake o’hara all souls route.
The All Souls Route at Lake O’Hara is one of the finest hikes in the Canadian Rockies. Crowds are kept at bay on this hike due to limited access to Lake O’Hara by bus. We love this walk!
User Ratings
Howe sound crest trail.
The Howe Sound Crest Trail (HSCT) is arguably one of the best hiking trails near Vancouver for serious hikers, stretching over 30.0 km from Cypress Bowl to Porteau Cove. Keep your hiking boots laced tight as you head over multiple summits, offering spectacular views of Howe Sound, The Lions, and the beautifully turquoise Deeks Lakes, to name a few.
Stawamus Chief
For one of the most popular hikes in Squamish, try hiking up Stawamus Chief. Located within Stawamus Chief Provincial Park, The Chief provides amazing views of Howe Sound over three different summits and is a can’t miss British Columbia experience.
Crystal Falls
Crystal Falls is a gentle hike following the Upper Coquitlam River, which ends at the stunning Crystal Falls waterfall on Pritchett Creek. While this is an all-year trail, summer takes this hike to the next level, with crystal clear canyon pools available for a refreshing dip.
Lindeman Lake Trail
The Lindeman Lake Trail is a 3.5 km out-and-back hiking route in Chilliwack Lake Provincial Park that features some rocky stretches of trail and a beautiful lake setting. After making your way through the forest and over boulder fields, you will arrive at the charming turquoise waters of Lindeman Lake that sits nestled in a scenic woodland atmosphere. The lake may be too cold for a swim, but the views are enough of an incentive to complete this short hike.
Panorama Ridge Hike
The Panorama Ridge hike will bring you up through lush forests to beautiful alpine meadows, followed by a stunning ridge with views you won't forget. This is a long day trail, but it can be easily broken up as a backpacking trip.
Tent Ridge Horseshoe
The Tent Ridge hike is spectacular. Tent Ridge is the location for many of the incredible photos you regularly see on social media, showing stunning peaks over the Spray Lakes. Tent Ridge is a wonderful hike, though there is a bit of a scramble on the way up Tent Ridge that some hikers don’t like, which is why we rate this as a 4/5 instead of a 3/5.
Weaselhead Flats
Escape to nature without leaving the city! Weaselhead Flats offers 237 hectares of pleasant pathways tailor-made for chilled-out hikes and gusts of fresh air. This area is more of a network of routes than just one individual walk, so you can go on an aimless wander or find a path you like. And we have the directions for our favourite loop below!
Macbeth Icefield
The Macbeth Icefield hike in the West Kootenays, is the best hike for those who are after a challenging day trip. You will venture through marsh land, forest, staircases, ridgelines and rock until you reach the epic Macbeth Icefield towering above you. Enjoy a narrow waterfall that can be seen for the last few hours of the hike. Rarely visited by tourists, it is a serene and peaceful place to view the vastness of the surrounding wilderness and immerse yourself among locals who have hiked this route for many years.
Heart Mountain Horseshoe
Hiking the Heart Mountain Horseshoe is a wonderful hike near Canmore. Hiking the full Horseshoe gets you away from the highway and into incredible, big-mountain views. Who knew hiking around Heart Mountain would be this great? We love this hike!
