Address of the Tour Eiffel for simple access

Eiffel tower address: directions and practical information.

The Eiffel Tower is located on the Champs de Mars at 5 Avenue Anatole France in the 7th arrondissement of Paris . The symbolic monument in the heart of Paris can be spotted from a distance and is easily identifiable. Are you looking for the easiest way to get to the Eiffel Tower or the fastest route? There are many ways to get there by public transit or on foot.

Public transportation to the Eiffel Tower

Metro and RER lines are ideal public transit solutions in Paris to avoid traffic jams and save precious time during your vacation. If you enter the Eiffel Tower's address in your smartphone, your GPS navigation app may propose one of the following lines:

  • Line 6 (Metro) Ecole Militaire
  • Line 8 (Metro) Etienne Marcel
  • Line 4 (Metro) Champ de Mars - Tour Eiffel, (RER C line)

You may prefer to travel to the Eiffel Tower by bus. Several lines access the monument, with no fewer than five stops close to the Iron Lady.

  • Tour Eiffel
  • Line 42 Tour Eiffel
  • Line 82 Champ de Mars
  • Line 87 Champs de Mars
  • Line 69 Champs de Mars

From the major Paris monuments to the Eiffel Tower

You can find the Eiffel Tower  address  in every Paris travel guide. But how do you plan your trip when you are arriving from another tourist attraction in the capital city  ? Here are five routes for quick access to the Eiffel Tower from the Arc de Triomphe, the Louvre Museum or the Musée d'Orsay.

From the Arc de Triomphe:

From the Charles de Gaulle Etoile stop, take Metro Line 6 (heading toward "Nation") and exit at Bir-Hakeim. Allow five minutes on the subway and 10 minutes of walking to get to the Eiffel Tower.

From the Louvre Museum:

The shortest route is to take the No. 72 bus. From the Palais Royal-Musée du Louvre stop (heading toward "Parc de Saint Cloud"), it will take about 10 minutes to ride to Pont d’Iena. Then it will only take five minutes on foot to get to the Eiffel Tower .

From the Musée d’Orsay:

From the Musée d’Orsay station, take RER C line (heading toward "GOTA Gare de Montigny Beauchamp") and exist at the Champ de Mars-Tour Eiffel stop, which is five minutes away on foot.

From Notre Dame de Paris Cathedral:

You will also take RER C line (heading toward "NORA Gare de Pontoise) from the Saint Michel-Notre Dame stop to the Champ de Mars-Tour Eiffel stop.

From Les Invalides:

You are only 1.25 miles from the Eiffel Tower, or about 25 minutes of walking. If you are short on time, the shortest path is to turn left on Rue de l’Université and continue walking straight to the Eiffel Tower. If you want to a leisurely stroll, you can walk along the Quai d'Orsay , then the Quai Branly and reach the Eiffel Tower with about five extra minutes of walking.

Eiffel Tower access for the mobility-impaired

To facilitate access for the mobility-impaired, the Eiffel Tower has reserved access to the pillars that spares visitors steps and turnstiles.

Only the very top of the Eiffel Tower is inaccessible to people with reduced mobility for safety reasons (especially in the event of an emergency evacuation).

It is, however, possible to reach the first and second levels via the elevator, which is roomy enough to accommodate wheelchairs.

Walks around the monument

If time allows, meander through the Trocadéro gardens , from which you can admire the Warsaw Fountain and views of the Eiffel Tower .

You can also wander through the paths of the Champs de Mars gardens – a great spot because it affords the best views of the Eiffel Tower.

On a rainy day, opt for destinations like the Maison de la Culture du Japon on the Quai Branly or the Quai Branly Museum.

Eiffel Tower

Top choice in Paris

Lonely Planet's Ultimate Guide

Explore insider tips, fascinating history and surprising secrets to make the most of your experience.

There are different ways to experience the Eiffel Tower, from a daytime trip or an evening ascent amid twinkling lights, to a meal in one of its restaurants. And even though some seven million people come annually, few would dispute that each visit is unique – and something that simply has to be done when in Paris.

Named after its designer, Gustave Eiffel, the Tour Eiffel was built for the 1889 Exposition Universelle (World's Fair). It took 300 workers, 2.5 million rivets and two years of nonstop labor to assemble. Upon completion, the tower became the tallest human-made structure in the world (324m) – a record held until the 1930 completion of New York's Chrysler Building. A symbol of the modern age, it faced opposition from Paris’ artistic and literary elite, and the ‘metal asparagus’, as some snidely called it, was originally slated to be torn down in 1909. It was spared only because it proved an ideal platform for the transmitting antennas needed for the newfangled science of radiotelegraphy.

Sporting six different colors throughout its lifetime, the tower has been painted red and bronze since 1968. Work is underway to strip the previous 19 coats and apply the yellow-brown shade originally conceived by Gustave Eiffel, giving it a new golden hue in time for the 2024 Olympics.

Eiffel Tower Observation Deck

First floor: cafe and souvenir shop

Of the tower's three floors, the 1st (57m) has the most space but least impressive views. The glass-enclosed Pavillon Ferrié houses an immersion film along with a small cafe and souvenir shop, while the outer walkway features a discovery circuit to help visitors learn more about the tower’s ingenious design. Check out the sections of glass flooring that provide a dizzying view of the ant-like people walking on the ground far below. This level also hosts the restaurant  58 Tour Eiffel . The 1st floor's commercial areas are powered by two sleek wind turbines within the tower.

Second floor: Le Jules Verne restaurant

Views from the 2nd floor (115m) are the best – impressively high but still close enough to see the city below. Telescopes and panoramic maps pinpoint locations in Paris and beyond. Story windows give an overview of the lifts’ mechanics, and the vision well allows you to gaze through glass panels to the ground. Also up here are toilets, a souvenir shop, a macaron bar, and Michelin-starred restaurant  Le Jules Verne .

Top floor: Champagne bar and 'secret apartment'

Views from the wind-buffeted top floor (276m) stretch up to 60km on a clear day, though at this height the panoramas are more sweeping than detailed. Celebrate your ascent with a glass of bubbly (€13 to €22) from the Champagne bar (open 10.15am to 10.15pm). Afterwards peep into Gustave Eiffel’s restored top-level office, otherwise known as the 'secret apartment', where lifelike wax models of Eiffel and his daughter Claire greet Thomas Edison.

The Eiffel Tower, symbol of Paris

Tours, tickets and other practicalities

Visitors must pass through security at the bullet-proof glass barriers surrounding the tower's base. The two entrances to the glass enclosure are on avenue Gustave Eiffel; the two exits are on quai Branly.

Ascend as far as the 2nd floor (either on foot or by lift), from where there's a separate lift to the top floor (closed during heavy winds). Pushchairs must be folded in lifts and bags or backpacks larger than aeroplane-cabin size aren't allowed. Note that the top floor and stairs aren't accessible to people with limited mobility.

Pre-purchasing tickets online gives you an allocated time slot and means you only have to queue for security. Print your ticket or show it on your phone. If you can’t reserve your tickets ahead of time, expect lengthy waits for tickets in high season.

Aerial view of Paris at sunset.

Stair tickets can't be reserved online. Buy them at the south pillar, where the staircase can also be accessed: the climb consists of 360 steps to the 1st floor and another 360 steps to the 2nd floor.

If you have reservations for either restaurant, you're granted direct post-security access to the lifts.

For the best view of the light show, head across the Seine to the Jardins du Trocadéro.

Eiffel Tower Stadium

PARIS2024-JO-EIFFEL-BEACH-16-9-V5

For Parisians, the Champ de Mars is a place to meet up and celebrate, regularly attracting thousands of people to share in events such as the traditional 14 July firework displays or a football World Cup final. On a daily basis, people meet up there to enjoy some sport, take in the views or simply walk around the vast alleyways and lawns of this magnificent site, which is now one of Paris’ most iconic public gardens. A temporary outdoor arena will be built in 2024 in order to stage the beach volleyball and blind football events, thus enabling everyone to enjoy this venue’s magical setting.

Between the Ecole Militaire’s (military school) impressive facade to the south and the equally remarkable Eiffel Tower on the River Seine side, the Champ de Mars will once again be a community space for gathering and a key venue during the Paris 2024 Games. Alongside the Eiffel Tower Stadium’s overlay arena, it will host other events in the Grand Palais Overlay: a temporary structure set up on Place Joffre to the south of the site.

The venue will be dismantled following the Games. The Champ de Mars will continue to be a magnificent setting for living, gathering and meeting, just as it was before the Games.

The Best Hotels Near the Eiffel Tower

By Lauren Burvill

view of Eiffel tower from hotel room.

It's only natural that first-time visitors to  Paris  gravitate towards the Eiffel Tower—the 81-story wrought-iron tower is amongst the most recognizable buildings in the world, and thus a bucket-list sighting to tick off. Its location, though, on the Seine in the 7th arrondissement, is one of the city's biggest tourist hotspots and thus one of the biggest tourist traps. And while there are plenty of hotels nearby— Hotel Pullman  might have the closest location—these boltholes aren't typically amongst the  best hotels in Paris . For a standout stay that neighbors the tower, you're best to opt for an  Airbnb  ( this apartment is one of the top trending Airbnbs in Paris ) or venture a little further to a  Condé Nast Traveler  editor-approved hotel that's within easy (and scenic) walking distance. Here we round up our favorite hotels near the Eiffel Tower.

Four Seasons Hotel George V Paris

Four Seasons George V Arrow

Walking distance from the Eiffel Tower: 21 minutes

Situated off the Champs Elysées, this landmark hotel is a swish experience from the outset—staff in winter coats greet you by name every time you come and go, and the lobby is a flutter of pink ferns and white marble. The bedrooms are a sea of gold—thick curtains with cream tassels, swirly carpets, and gold-trimmed frames. The Four Seasons are renowned for being brilliant with families , and there’s nowhere in the hotel little ones aren’t welcome, including all three of the Michelin-starred restaurants . Le Cinq is the hottest table to secure with three Michelin stars—Parisians book months in advance to taste chef Christian Le Squer’s “foie gras like a pebble,” a truly beautiful trio of pebble-like pate poached in iodized vinegar broth. But there are two more stars to choose from—one at Italian Le George, which serves fluffy focaccia and crispy saffron arancini, and another at L’Orangerie for the fish and plant-based tasting menu. Downstairs, the basement spa is an instantly tranquil escape that feels a long way from the hustle at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, just a short walk away. A dream Parisian pied-a-terre. — Tabitha Joyce

Bulgari Hotel Paris Arrow

Think of this quietly decadent hotel on Avenue George V as a portal, or possibly even a break in the space-time continuum—one that can spirit you from Paris to Rome in the time it takes to order a croissant. Between the Gio Ponti artwork, plush Maxalto furniture, and even the dozen signature Italian pastries on offer, there’s more than a hint of the bel paese suffused into this high-polish Parisian hideaway. Close to Le Bristol and the Plaza Athénée on the so-called Golden Triangle, it’s the sort of place where patrons in Prada glasses might convene for an aperitivo at the backlit onyx bar to discuss the latest show at the Palais de Tokyo while nibbling on plump Castelvetrano olives and crumbly focaccia rings. Swiss businessmen swim morning laps in a semi-Olympic pool glimmering with malachite and gold mosaics.

There’s a certain pristine perfection to the place, which was a decade in the making. Italian architectural firm Antonio Citterio Patricia Viel led the renovation of a Seventies post office, extending the window openings over two floors—a nod to the Renaissance palaces designed by Andrea Palladio—and constructing the façade with the same pale ashlar masonry as Paris’s most recognizable monuments, including the Louvre and the Trocadéro. The food and drink, developed by science-driven chef Niko Romito and former Ritz mixologist Leonardo Zanini, is precise but unfussy—expect luscious spaghetti e pomodoro preceded by fizzy tequila cocktails. The Bulgari feels like a crisply sumptuous cocoon; a slice of high-fashion Italy that somehow fits just right into one of the world’s great hotel quarters. — Betsy Blumenthal

Monsieur George Hotel Spa Hotel Paris

Monsieur George Hotel & Spa Arrow

Walking distance from the Eiffel Tower: 30 minutes

George Washington never went to Paris. The farthest he ever got from home was a short visit to Barbados . Yet the Parisians held him in sufficiently high esteem to erect two fine statues in his honor and to name a street after him, each of them in a notably posh part of the capital. Now the street dubbed Rue Washington in his memory has a hotel in a converted townhouse at number 17 that bears his name too: Monsieur George, a delicious bite-sized macaron of a place. Credit for the hotel’s deliciousness must go to its interior designer, Anouska Hempel, a woman of many talents and exceptional energy. Among her claims to fame is nothing less than the invention of the boutique hotel—an era-defining phenomenon that sprang into existence when she opened Blakes in London in 1978. Blakes was full of mirrors, velvet, and exotic flourishes suggestive of a well-traveled, sophisticated, possibly rather decadent way of life. And so is Monsieur George.

The mirrors, the velvet, and the exotic flourishes are very much in evidence—and it is testament to the enduring strength of the Hempel aesthetic that it all still works so nicely, that it all still seems so fun and fresh, sexy and chic. The rooms at Monsieur George, let it be said, are not large. Rather compact. Ask, therefore, for one of the suites, either the Marly, in the courtyard to the rear, a sort of miniature mews house with the bedroom upstairs and lots of clever partitions and screens; or the Franklin, on the sixth floor, an utterly unexpected white-on-white affair beneath the eaves, an essay in monochrome minimalism, more monastic than presidential—and only the more delightful for it. — SK

Brach

Brach Paris Arrow

The staid 16th arrondissement hasn’t exactly drawn visitors over the years. So it’s a testament to the cool factor of Evok Hotels that it can take a former mail-sorting facility in this bourgeois, residential district and make it le talk of Paris. After a four-year renovation overseen by designer Philippe Starck, the resulting hotel is as much about a lifestyle as a place to crash. For one thing, the buzzing restaurant draws fashionable locals starting at breakfast and continuing until the early hours with its patisserie, plates-to-share, and potent drinks. A terrace bar lures the pretty people. The subterranean fitness club channels a Thirties boxing club and had a waiting list the minute it opened. Even the swimming pool has a killer sound system. The party continues in the rooms, each with its own mini-concept store (the mini-bar is so 2018), stocked with pre-made cocktails by the Avantgarde Spirits Company. The design smacks of Starck’s typical sassy eclecticism: walls covered in rich rosewood and leather, African masks and Masai-style beadwork, and in the bathrooms, there are potted cacti next to sinks hewn from unfinished blocks of marble. Who knew that the 16th of all places would become the city’s next hip address?
