For nearly four decades, the American Lung Association’s (ALA) Trek Across Maine has drawn in hundreds of cyclists to ride 180 miles over three days through Maine communities. This year, the Trek will bring more than 600 cyclists to Maine in-person (with a virtual option), setting the same goal of raising $1 million as last year. Taking place from Friday, June 16, to Sunday, June 18, this year, the Trek has already raised $500,000 to date. The ALA is asking drivers and residents for their support, patience, and extra care as the cyclists make their way through Brunswick, Freeport, Durham, Auburn, Lewiston, Naples, Standish, and surrounding cities and towns. The Trek attracts cyclists ranging in skill and age, support vehicles, medical vehicles and police escorts through small towns, often causing traffic delays and congestion on the roads; rain or shine.

The Trek schedule can be found below:

Friday, June 16, participants ride from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Starting line is at Thomas Point Beach and Campground in Brunswick and the finish line at Bates College in Lewiston. On Saturday, June 17, participants ride from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Bates College in Lewiston to St. Joseph’s College in Standish. Day three, Sunday, June 18, participants ride between 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. starting from St. Joseph’s College in Standish and finishing at Thomas Point Beach and Campground in Brunswick. Along the route, some areas can experience more traffic slowdowns than others. Law enforcement officers will be positioned at all major intersections where cyclists need to pass through traffic. Motorcycle officers and state police vehicles will also drive the Trek route to ensure the safety of motorists and Trek cyclists alike.

Local drivers play a key role in making the Trek safe and fun for everyone. Please slow down and share the road with families, friends and neighbors.
