Explore Taliesin, the extraordinary home, studio, and 800-acre property of American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. Taliesin is located in the Driftless Region of southwestern Wisconsin and includes buildings from nearly every decade of his career from the 1890s to the 1950s.

Wright appropriately named his Wisconsin residence Taliesin, which means “shining brow,” in honor of his Welsh heritage. He built his home on the side or “brow” of the hill because he said if you built on top of the hill, you’d lose the hill.

Taking inspiration from the surrounding hills and valley of his boyhood, he constructed a “living laboratory” in harmony with nature. Multiple wings and terraces frame the landscape to embrace the site from which Taliesin stands. Today, Taliesin is a National Historic Landmark (1976) and is one of eight historic buildings inscribed on to the UNESCO World Heritage List for The 20th Century Architecture of Frank Lloyd Wright (2019).

In addition to a variety of tours, guests have the opportunity to experience Taliesin on a more immersive level through adult workshops, speaker salons, summer camps, business retreats, and more. Adult workshops invite visionaries in the fields of architecture, nature, culture, painting, photography, culinary arts, agriculture, and more to engage in shared learning and meaningful exchanges. Dynamic youth summer camps empower the next generation of changemakers by providing skills to reimagine the future.

Taliesin rock wall

Our chosen tour at Taliesin — the Highlights Tour — consisted of two (very quickly passing) hours, first inside the original architectural school with its huge assembly Hall, and then to Taliesin itself, where we were awed by Wright’s Personal Studio. The tour was devoted to exactly twenty visitors, curious about the architect and where he lived and worked.

HILLSIDE SCHOOL AND MIDWAY BARNS

Promptly at 10:15 am, we boarded a 20-passenger bus and, along with our guide, Ms. Julie Shockey, took a short ride down Route 23, turning into a gravel driveway that led to one of Wright’s first designs, the Hillside School. Dedicated to educating children based on “learning by doing”, the first building (and Wright’s first commission) was designed for his aunts Jane and Nell Lloyd-Jones in 1886. The remainder of the complex was completed in 1902, situated on land originally cleared by his grandparents. Although the school was closed in 1915, the other Wright-designed buildings on the property were destined to become the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture, formally initiated in 1932.

We would tour the giant Assembly Hall first, an area with a mighty fireplace and expanse that was designed with a large first floor, as well as a magnificently cantilevered balcony above. The building’s corners anchored and supported the structure part-way up the roof line instead of exterior walls providing support at the edges of the roof, as was common practice. Allowing for greater strength as well as increased space inside, this type of structural element was one of the earmarks of Wright’s designs. We also viewed the Fellowship Dining Room, where all the apprentice architects would share meals together and the incredible 5,000 square-foot Drafting Room; with its unique roof and lighting, “the Abstract Forrest” is a stunning workspace where aspiring architects still study. Curiously, the triangular roof trusses have pins at the bottom of them that essentially are not attached to anything; they rest on steel plates that sit atop stone piers on which they rest. According to Ms. Keiran Murphy from Historic Research at Taliesin Preservation, Inc.:

“When Mr. Wright was constructing the room originally, it was done in such haste (and with so little resources) that they milled the wood and put it up ‘green’ – not letting it age & dry. So the wood warped. Because the triangular supports are not directly connected to the piers, the ‘pins’ lifted up over time due to warping. So they (had to) put shims under them. You can see metal shims around the room under the ‘pins’. The weight (of the roof) isn’t concentrated in any one particular place.”

We also got to sit in the cozy and unique Theater. With not a bad seat anywhere and excellent acoustics, it was a perfect venue for Sunday get-togethers, where performances were regularly scheduled events.

Outside the building is an interesting windmill; Wright christened the structure the “Romeo and Juliet Windmill Tower”. Designed in 1886 to carry water to the Hillside School — and to withstand some of the area’s strongest storms — critics said it would never remain standing more than 10 years. Romeo (a diamond shaped structure) and Juliet (an octagonal-shaped structure) are locked in an embrace that inspired the moniker. True to the strength of Wright’s design and a testament to his engineering genius, the windmill — although now undergoing renovation to repair damage done by marauding squirrels — still stands, proudly thumbing its nose at the naysayers, the ravages of time and the elements.

Filing back onto the bus, we took a short ride past the large Midway Barns, a farming complex that Wright envisioned would be the agricultural center of the estate, supplying dairy and other products to the apprentice architects at the school. Winding our way up the narrow road on the back side of Taliesin, I was taken by the enormous and sprawling structure that was to serve as Wright’s home, studio and eventual workspace for his apprentices. Frank Lloyd Wright was, in addition to a master architect, an incredible landscaper as well. He felt that a structure should be a part of the land, rather than an encumbrance upon it. Taliesin is so well tucked into the hillside, it is difficult to believe just how large it really is… a total of approximately 38,000 square feet!

SHINING BROW

The jewel of the tour — the Taliesin residence (actually built for his mistress, Mamah Borthwick Cheney) — is an absolutely awesome building. Every detail oozes function; every line, every corner, every brick and every stone has a reason to be where it is. From Wright’s personal drafting area, to the living room, to the guest bedroom and to his personal bedroom, the house is a study in architectural achievement. Taliesin was not only a home to Wright, it was a place in which he could constantly experiment, both with the building and with the land. He was always changing something. In fact, according to Ms. Murphy’s calculations:

“Wright made at least 200 changes just to that structure (The Taliesin Residence) alone (not counting Midway Barns, the waterfall, Hillside, Romeo & Juliet, Tan-y-Deri – his sister’s house – or the landscape).”

An extremely long and cantilevered balcony allowed Wright or any of his guests to leave the living room for a walk that felt almost as if one were in the canopy of outside trees… right along with the birds. And then there are the corner windows… with no corners, making it appear as if the window line were one continuous panorama.

We stood silently in the guest bedroom, where many famous people have been rumored to have stayed, including Ayn Rand, author of The Fountainhead. The book was supposedly about Wright, but Rand has always refuted this. We were also led through Wright’s personal bedroom. It too, is currently undergoing extensive renovation; time and some of Wright’s own roof changes have necessitated raising and re-leveling the floor. The view from here was incredible, and it took little imagination to picture Frank Lloyd Wright at a drafting table here, conjuring up his next commissioned structure.

As we left the building and followed the curving driveway past the small lake and dam that Wright had designed, I couldn’t help but wonder what things had looked like back in the 1930’s. Taliesin — a Welsh word meaning “shining brow” — was an apt description of this beautifully-sculpted brow of the hill that Wright would rebuild two additional times after fires consumed much of it… I am unsure I would have had the strength or resolve to even attempt such a task.

After the tour we enjoyed a light lunch in the Riverview Terrace Cafe; I was overwhelmed, I believe, by what I had seen and felt as I walked though the places that Frank Lloyd Wright himself had walked; the places that he had designed and built; the places that have endured and are being preserved for all to see and appreciate. The Lloyd-Jones family had an interesting motto, and one that I shall remember: “Truth Against the World”.

On July 7, 2019, UNESCO announced the addition of Taliesin along with seven other Frank Lloyd Wright designed buildings to the United Nations’ list of the world’s most significant cultural and natural sites. View the complete list.

TALIESIN VISITORS’ CENTER

The building from where the Taliesin tours start is easily discernible as a Frank Lloyd Wright structure. Designed in 1953 and adjacent to The Taliesin Estate, Wright originally intended that the building serve as a restaurant, along with a meeting room for potential clients. He never saw the completion of the project, as he died in 1959. Former apprentices of Wright did finish the building in 1967; in 1993, The Spring Green restaurant was renovated and converted to a Visitor Center — finally becoming pretty much what Wright had originally envisioned it to be. Along with books and other re-creations of Wright artifacts, the building still contains a small restaurant. Called the Riverview Terrace Cafe, it offers lighter fare for visitors and tour guests alike, and allows for a marvelous panorama of the Wisconsin River. It was not difficult to imagine Wright as a child, climbing the slight rise and creating the vision that would one day become Taliesin.

Taliesin - A Guided 360 Virtual Tour

taliesin highlights tour

  • Written by Alison Furuto
  • Published on October 13, 2011

Frank Lloyd Wright ’s Taliesin turned 100 this year. As part of the commemoration Tour de Force 360VR produced an award winning “guided” 360 degree virtual tour of the estate. The center of Frank Lloyd Wright’s world was Taliesin near Spring Green , Wisconsin . It was his home, workshop, architectural laboratory and inspiration for nearly all his life. Our international award winning Tour de Force, allows visitors from around the world to experience this place in ways only a personal visit could provide before. The response has been dramatic. More information on the tour after the break.

A Guided Tour where you are in control: This virtual visit introduces our powerful guided tour capability which is unique in the industry. If they want, visitors can sit back and be lead on the tour by a guide directing their attention to various aspects of a location, even augmenting the presentation with still images (or any media) to illustrate points. This is much like a physical tour or narrative video. Unlike either visitors are in control. They can move around to locations and topics of interest to them in any order they want. They can always drop out of the guided tour to explore on their own and “rejoin” the tour at any point. This becomes highly interactive and engaging and is proving quite intuitive.

Move inside: A still photo may show a view of Wright’s design studio but you remain an outside observer without a sense of context. An immersive 360 image puts you inside the image, the space and to a degree inside Wright’s head. Experience what he saw daily, surrounded by Asian art, expansive views of Wisconsin ’s rolling hills, his own courtyard gardens and a space to relax before a fire watched over by a portrait of his mother. See the actual drafting tables where Wright designed his most famous buildings while immersed in all this and you begin to feel how it reflected and influenced his design.

Masters 2024 highlights: Round 2 leaderboard, how Tiger Woods did and more

The  2024 Masters  continued Friday with the completion of Round 1 followed by Round 2.

What did we learn after all that golf? The weekend should be pretty exciting.

There's a three-way tie for first, with Max Homa, Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau all sitting at 6 under.

If that weren't enough, we get to watch Tiger Woods play the weekend at Augusta National once again. The five-time Masters champ has now made the cut at his 24th consecutive Masters Tournament .

Check out USA TODAY Sports ' updates on all the action from Friday, including Tiger Woods’ status, the leaderboard, highlights and more:

Who is leading the Masters 2024?

It's a three-way tie atop the Masters leaderboard. Bryson DeChambeau, Scottie Scheffler and Max Homa are all tied at 6 under. Homa had the best outing of the trio Friday, shooting a 1-under 71. Scheffler, the 2022 Masters champ, shot an even par 72 and DeChambeau, the leader after Thursday's first round, shot a 1-over 73.

Check out the full Masters leaderboard here .

Masters tee times for Saturday's third round

Tee times for Saturday's third round can be found here .

What did Tiger Woods shoot Friday?

Tiger Woods shot an even par 72 Friday after recording four birdies and four bogeys.

Did Tiger Woods make the cut?

Yep, Tiger is playing into the weekend once again, setting a record with 24 consecutive made cuts at the Masters.

Woods shot a 1-over 73 Thursday and even par 72 Friday to make the cut.

Tiger Woods grinds through 23 holes at Masters and somehow gets better. How?

AUGUSTA, Ga. — Tiger Woods is 48 going on 68 on good days, probably more like 78 on the others. His body is a mess, especially his right leg that was crushed and rebuilt after his 2021 car crash. The only way he can compete on tour these days is to give himself plenty of time between rounds to recover, ice up, get some rest and try again the next day. To circumvent any part of that process is to tempt fate, likely leading to a poor round, a missed cut and one fewer tournament left to be played in Tiger’s storied career.

So how do we explain  what happened Friday at the Masters,  when Tiger had to play 23 holes in a gusting wind with only a 52-minute break between the first five and the last 18, and actually got better as the day wore on?

Read the rest of Christine Brennan's column from Augusta here .

Masters cut line 2024

The cut line for the 2024 Masters came in at 6 over. Any golfer who shot 7 over or worse is going home.

Who missed cut at Masters?

See who missed the and who will be playing into the weekend here .

Did any LIV Golf players make Masters cut?

Yep. In fact, one of them is in the lead .

Scottie Scheffler tied atop leaderboard after second round

The top of the 2024 Masters leaderboard is crowded with Americans. Scottie Scheffler, Max Homa and Bryson DeChambeau are all tied at 6-under through two rounds at Augusta National. Both Scheffler and DeChambeau held the solo lead at various times before ending the day in a three-way tie.

Scheffler shot an even par 72 in the second round with three bogeys and three birdies. He had the opportunity to take the sole lead on the 17th but he narrowly missed an uphill putt for birdie to the left.

Scheffler is in great position to win his second Masters Tournament in three years. He took home the green jacket in 2022.

Scottie Scheffler bogeys 13th hole after ball lands in water

Scottie Scheffler almost escaped Amen Corner without incident until he got to the Par-5, 13th hole. The World No. 1 found the water on his second stroke. “No,” Scheffler yelled after the errant shot. He dropped in on the edge of the creek and used a club to chip the ball onto the green. He narrowly missed a par putt and finished with a bogey, his third of the second round. Scheffler drops to 6-under on the tournament and is now tied for first place alongside fellow American Bryson DeChambeau.

Bryson DeChambeau drops out of lead after bogey on 18, Scottie Scheffler in front

American Bryson DeChambeau was even through the second round, all the way until the 18th hole (Par-4, 465 yards). DeChambeau bogeyed on his final hole of the day, marking his fourth bogey, along with three birdies in the second round. He finished 1-over 72 on the day and 6-under on the tournament.

With the bogey, DeChambeau fell from the top of the leaderboard to second place alongside Max Homa. Now, fellow American Scottie Scheffler is in sole possession of first place at 7-under through 12 holes.

Bryson DeChambeau hits bomb tee shot on No. 17

American Bryson DeChambeau made history at the 17th hole (Par-4, 440 yards) at Augusta National. The American co-leader teed off a 372-yard drive down the fairway. He found the green his next stroke on a wedge shot, setting up a birdie putt, which he couldn’t convert. DeChambeau has had several opportunities to birdie that he’s narrowly missed. He remains even on the day and 7-under on the tournament.

Americans Bryson DeChambeau, Scottie Scheffler share Masters lead

Fore! American Bryson DeChambeau didn’t get off to the best start on the 16th hole (Par-3, 180yards) and launched the ball into a group of bystanders to the left of the green. But he rebounded nicely with a chip shot onto the green and knocked down a putt to save par.

DeChambeau remains even on the day and is 7-under overall, but now he has company. Fellow American Scottie Scheffler picked up a birdie on the 10th hole to take the co-lead with DeChambeau at 7-under.

Masters leaderboard: Bryson DeChambeau on top through 15

American Bryson DeChambeau is at the top of the leaderboard, but he had an opportunity to add to it on the Par-5, 15th hole. His birdie putt looked inline with the hole, until the ball caught the lip and spun out. DeChambeau remains even in the second round with three birdies and three bogeys and is 7-under on the tournament. DeChambeau has company — one stroke above fellow Americans Max Homa and Scottie Scheffler, who are currently tied for second place.

Tiger Woods sets record by making 24th straight Masters cut

On Friday the 15-time major champion  shot an even-par 72 in the second round  of the  2024 Masters  to walk off the golf course at 1 over for the tournament and solidify his weekend tee time.

Woods has now made 24 consecutive cuts at the Masters, the most all-time in the tournament’s illustrious history. The five-time Masters champion, in  his 26th Masters appearance , was previously tied with Fred Couples (1983-2007) and Gary Player (1959-1982).

“I was forced to get up-and-down a few times today, and I was able to do that. A lot of those chip shots I was able to get up and down because I left it in the perfect spot, and that’s understanding how to play this golf course,” Woods explained. “Probably the only exception was the spot I put myself in on 14. Most of the up-and-downs I was in a perfect spot.”

Max Homa finishes second round tied for second

American Max Homa is one stroke away from the lead through two rounds at August National. He’s currently tied for second place at 6-under with Scottie Scheffler, who both trail American Bryson DeChambeau.

Homa made it through 13 holes at 4-under on Thursday, before play was suspended due to darkness. He resumed his first round on Friday and finished at five-under, with seven birdies and two bogeys in the round.

He continued his steady pace during the second round, where he shot two birdies and one bogey to bring him to 6-under for the tournament.

It was a great showing for Homa, who is in pursuit of his first major title. His best major result was 10th place at the 2023 Open Championship, but his highest finish at the Masters was 43rd place last year.

Homa had a chance become a co-leader on the 18th hole with a birdie putt, but the strong wind at Augusta National on Friday afternoon kept the ball from breaking into the hole.  – Cydney Henderson

DeChambeau birdied on No. 12 to move back atop the leaderboard, with Max Homa and Scottie Scheffler tied for second at 6-under as of 4 p.m. ET.

After a bogey on the 14th hole, Woods bounced back with a birdie on No. 15 to get back to 1-over-par for the tournament. Woods nearly eagled the par-5 five hole, but left his putt a little short for a tap-in bogey.

Scottie Scheffler birdies No. 2 to tie atop leaderboard

Scottie Sheffler birdied No. 2 to tie Bryson DeChambeau atop the leaderboard at 7-under, with Dechambeau through eight holes in the second round on Friday. Max Homa is in third at 6-under-par as of 2:45 p.m. ET.

Masters second round: Tiger Woods survives No. 13

Tiger Woods bogeys for third time

Tiger Woods's chipping game has been on fire which put him in a good position on seven. Unfortunately, Woods overhit a seven-foot putt on and ended up with a bogey, bringing his score to 2-over.

Tiger Woods with the birdie chip

Tiger Woods is doing Tiger Woods things. After back-to-back bogeys, Woods chipped in from nine yards for his second birdie of the second round on No. 6, giving the five-time Masters champion a reason to smile.

Tiger Woods hits back-to-back bogeys

Tiger Woods struggled on his second consecutive hole at No. 5. His attempt to make a 28-foot putt wasn't enough, resulting in another bogey, leaving him at 2 over. On the par-3 No. 4, he bogeyed while playing into the wind.

Gusty at Augusta National

The weather for the Masters tournament may be sunny with blue skies, but the wind could pose a problem. According to the National Weather Service in Columbia, winds are expected to reach up to 20 mph on Friday, with gusts reaching speeds of 36 mph by 3 p.m. ET

Max Homa tied for the lead

Max Homa talked about his previous struggles at the Masters, but this time around, he is on top of his game. Homa made a birdie on No. 4 to tie Bryson DeChambeau for the lead.

What is the Masters cut line?

The  cut line  is approaching at the  Masters .

By the end of Friday, the field of 89 golfers will be trimmed by nearly half.

To  make the cut after the first 36 holes , a player must be in the top 50 places on the leaderboard, including ties. After the first day of play, the  cut was projected at 1 over , according to Golfweek, a number that could be on the move throughout Friday's action.

Tiger Woods back to even par

After his second par of the round on No. 2, Tiger Woods sank a 10-foot putt for a birdie on No. 3 in the second round, bringing him to even par. He sits seven strokes off the lead and is projected to make the cut.

Max Homa dialed in to start Round 2

Max Homa carded the lowest round of his Masters career with a 67 (-5) − tying him for third place after the first round. He moved into a second place tie with Scottie Scheffler with a birdie on hole No. 2. Bryson DeChambeau, who doesn't tee off until 11:54 am ET, leads the Masters at -7.

Tiger starts second round, pars first hole

Tiger Woods started his second round on the par 4, 445 yard No. 1. He is attempted to set the all-time record for most consecutive cuts made (24) at the Masters. His first shot again made the fairway, setting him up for a birdie opportunity. But he settles for par with multiple chances to make up the score with par 5’s coming up

Jordan Spieth cards a quadruple bogey

Jordan Spieth, the 2015 Masters winner, was in contention until he resumed the completion of his first round. Spieth was sitting at 2 over through 11 holes when play was suspended due to darkness Thursday. When he returned Friday, his game fell apart on hole No. 15. The three-time major winner carded a quadruple bogey with nine shots on the 15th hole.

He finished the first round +7 (79) tied for 81st.

Tiger completes first round at 1-over, 8 shots behind DeChambeau

Tiger’s first shot on 16 hit the left of the bunker, leaving him a 20-ft chance for a birdie, but he left it 3-ft back of the pin and had to settle for another par.

On 17, Woods hit his driver straight down the middle of the fairway nearly 300 yards, leaving him 160 yards from the hole. His second shot split the bunker and landed 20 yards from the pin, but again left his birdie putt three feet short and carded another par.

Tiger’s last hole of the first round started with another drive down the fairway. Woods has hit 77 percent of the fairway so far, and this one leaves him 171 yards from paydirt. Yet, another excellent birdie went awry as his second shot landed in the bunker. His par putt missed and he settled for bogey.

Woods' second round begins at 10:18 a.m. ET.

Bryson DeChambeau is still the leader at 7-under, with Scottie Scheffler one shot back. Nicolai Højgaard and Max Homa are at 5-under. Højgaard's 67 is tied for the lowest debut score by a European player at the Masters. Neal Shipley, who was 1-under after his first 18 holes, is the top amateur score through Round One.

Tiger bogeys first hole after resuming first round

Tiger Woods got off to a rough start as he completes his first round, which was delayed by weather on Thursday. Woods dropped to even par after a bogey on 14 and after a great start on the 550 yards par 5 15th, managed to save par, leaving him seven shots behind the leaderboard, tied for 29th place

About Taliesin West

Taliesin West is Frank Lloyd Wright’s desert laboratory in Arizona

“Taliesin West is a look over the rim of the world.”

– Frank Lloyd Wright, 1943

Taliesin West is a World Heritage site and National Historic Landmark nestled in the desert foothills of the McDowell Mountains in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Wright’s beloved winter home and desert laboratory was established in 1937 and diligently handcrafted over many years. Deeply connected to the desert from which it was forged, Taliesin West possesses an almost prehistoric grandeur. It was built and maintained almost entirely by Wright and his apprentices, making it among the most personal of the architect’s creations.

Having purchased several hundred acres of land in the then rural foothills of northeast Scottsdale, Wright began to conceive of a desert utopia comprised of low-slung buildings designed to reflect the sweeping expansiveness of the desert. Always in favor of local materials, Wright would construct Taliesin West largely of “desert masonry”: local rock set in wooden forms and bound by a mixture of cement and desert sand. In so doing, Wright hoped to preserve as much of the desert environment as possible by embedding his structures within the landscape. Canvas roofs bathe the interior spaces with light, while redwood beams provide Wright’s favored red accents. Over the years, the complex was continually altered and expanded, eventually including a drafting studio, dining facilities, three theaters, a workshop, Wright’s office and private living quarters, and residences for apprentices and staff. Each building is connected through a series of walkways, terraces, pools and gardens. Wright designed all of the interior furniture and decorations, the majority of which were made on site by the apprentices.

Wright would continue to spend winter in Arizona until his death in 1959. As the buildings of Taliesin West took on greater permanence, steel and fiberglass replaced the less durable materials. Life in the desert was active. The Fellowship’s hands-on architectural education was complimented by an active calendar of lectures, evening entertainment, concerts and theatrical performances. Taliesin West continues to serve as the vibrant home of both the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation carrying on many of the Fellowship’s traditions. A small number of the Legacy Fellows who lived and worked with Wright continue to live on the grounds.

Before the Masters starts Thursday, there was one more tradition unlike any other to enjoy: Wednesday's Par 3 Contest.

Rickie Fowler carded 5-under 22 to win the Par 3 Contest. Fowler finished two strokes clear of Sepp Straka, J.T. Poston and amateur Santiago de la Fuente.

The Par 3 Contest was contested Wednesday, as per tradition, at Augusta National's nine-hole par-3 layout just a stone's throw from the tournament course. Players signed up to compete in groupings of up to three players, with several spouses and children also enjoying the action inside the ropes – caddying and sometimes even hitting a few shots.

In addition to Fowler's glittering crystal bowl for winning the Par 3 Contest, five players also earned hardware for recording holes-in-one Wednesday. Luke List recorded the day's first ace, followed by Gary Woodland, Sepp Straka, Lucas Glover and Viktor Hovland.

No player has won the Par 3 Contest and the green jacket in the same year, but who's to say this year can't be the first? Fowler will strive to break that streak amidst the loblolly pines.

Read below for a capsule look of Wednesday's aces and memorable moments at the Masters Par 3 Contest, a tradition unlike any other that precedes a tradition unlike any other.

4:19 p.m.: The cup is filling up at the 141-yard sixth, the latest magic trick coming at the hands of Viktor Hovland.

The Norwegian cards Wednesday's third ace at No. 6, the day's fifth hole-in-one overall. Hovland's ball lands on the front of the green and takes a couple hops before grabbing and spinning back toward the hole; it trickles in with sublime pace. Hovland raises his hands with a mischevious smile as the patrons roar in appreciation. Former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is on the scene, clapping in appreciation as well.

Hovland isn't keeping an official score, but the moment will remain etched in time nonetheless. Rickie Fowler (5 under) maintains the clubhouse lead that he has held for some three hours.

3:27 p.m.: Lucas Glover makes Wednesday's first ace at No. 7, the day's fourth hole-in-one overall. Glover's tee shot lands on the green's back-right portion, some 50 feet from the hole, but it carries plenty of zip and releases all the way back into the hole. The Clemson alum throws his hands in the air and high-fives his playing partners Brian Harman and Harris English, along with family on the scene.

3:20 p.m.: Nearly two hours after posting 5-under 22, Rickie Fowler maintains the clubhouse lead at the Par 3 Contest. Sepp Straka and J.T. Poston share second place in the clubhouse at 3 under, with Matt Fitzpatrick (through 7) and Sungjae Im (through 6) still on the course at 3 under.

2:27 p.m.: Austria's Sepp Straka makes an ace at the 142-yard fifth, the day's third hole-in-one overall (the first two coming at No. 6). The ball lands just a few feet past the hole and spins in; Straka leaps into the air as the ball drops into the cup.

2:20 p.m.: After Gary Woodland finds the water on the eighth hole, leading to a triple bogey, Rickie Fowler (5 under) has assumed a three-stroke lead over Woodland and Austin Eckroat.

Woodland's son Jaxson drains a 12-foot birdie from just off the green's front edge at No. 9, followed by a raucous family celebration. It means Woodland's score won't be official, but hearts are warm across the board.

1:40 p.m.: Gary Woodland records the day's second ace (both on the 140-yard, par-3 sixth hole); his tee shot lands roughly 30 feet long-right of the flag and spins back softly, dripping in the hole with perfect pace. It marks Woodland's first ace at the Par 3 Contest. He's now 5 under through six holes, co-leader with Rickie Fowler (in the clubhouse).

1:30 p.m.: Rickie Fowler makes an 8-foot birdie at the ninth to post 5-under 22. He's the leader in the clubhouse thus far.

1:15 p.m.: Scottie Scheffler is underway at the Par 3 Contest, with his sister Sara on the bag, dialing in yardages amidst back-and-forth with the broadcast crew.

Scheffler's wife Meredith is not on-site this week, as she is "a few weeks" from the due date for their first child. "Meredith's resting up," Scheffler said. "We're a few weeks away, so we could not get the OK from the doctors."

Were Meredith to enter labor during the Masters, Scheffler would leave immediately, he said Wednesday, regardless of his leaderboard position. "That is extremely factual; I will be out of here," he said. "I think first child wins, over many things in my life."

1:05 p.m.: Local hero Luke List makes the first ace of the Par 3 Contest. The Augusta resident spins it back and in at the 140-yard sixth hole.

12:50 p.m.: Gary Woodland is joined at the Par 3 Contest by his three kids, Jaxson, Maddox and Lennox. It's an emotional scene for Woodland, who underwent brain surgery last September to remove a lesion, which was situated on a tract that caused fear. "I was very fear-driven every day, mostly around death," he said in January.

Now he's playing the Masters, and the journey isn't lost on him. Far from it. "This is what it's all about," Woodland said on the first tee at the Par 3 Contest. "This is what the fight was for."
