Top 10 Food You Must Try in Thailand

Is Thailand suitable for Seniors?

The most intuitive feeling when people get old is that they are more afraid of the cold, and the weaker elderly have to wear sweaters with long sleeves in the summer. In Thailand, you will not feel this embarrassment at all when you grow old. Thailand only has a rainy season and a dry season, and the temperature is above 20 degrees. You don't have to worry about being troubled by diseases, and the prices in Thailand are also relatively cheap.

Many foreigners choose to retire in Chiang Mai, Thailand, because the climate is very comfortable with four seasons like spring. Chiang Mai is the second largest city in Thailand, which is also suitable for leisure travel.

Which island in Thailand is more recommended for Seniors?

If you want an island that is convenient, well developed and can fly directly, Phuket is preferred, followed by Krabi and Koh Samui.

If the beach environment is more important, Krabi is a good choice. Many places have direct flights to Krabi, followed by a 1-hour bus ride to Ao Lan. Here is great, compared to Phuket clean a lot, prices are also lower than Phuket.

If you travel in the rainy season, be careful about island hopping. It will be uncomfortable to take a boat when the sea is rough. In the dry season, you can try to choose a big boat, because the weight of the big boat can reduce the bumps and bring a better travel experience.

How many days is Thailand suitable for playing?

If you only have a week or so of travel time, it is recommended that Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Phuket only choose 1-2 places plus short trips around the city. If you have about ten days, the choice can be much more abundant. For one city, you can choose Bangkok, with Ayutthaya surrounding, the water market, the beauty beach of Pattaya, etc.; or you can also expect Chiang Mai, with Chiang Rai, Bay County; or for beach tour, Phuket will provide you with three major beaches, there you can properly arrange your island tour.

If you can arrange a private customized tour, then do it, since with the group you will be more tired, and they will not take care of everyone.

What is the best time of year to visit Thailand?

Due to the tropical monsoon, Thailand is clearly divided into three seasons throughout the year: March to May, when the temperature is the highest, averaging 89 - 100℉(32 - 38°C), is called the "hot season" and the air is dry. During the rainy season, the average monthly temperature is maintained at around 80 - 82℉(27-28℃). After the rainy season, Thailand has the best season of the year, the "cool season", which is from November to February, with an average temperature of 66 - 79℉(19 - 26℃). Although it is called "cool season", the temperature is not low.

For seniors, the cool season is undoubtedly the best season to travel. If you need to travel to Thailand during the hot season, summer dress is recommended. You will need a spare jacket and long pants because many of the attractions in Thailand are Buddhist-related and you must wear long pants to enter, and there is a big temperature difference between indoor and outdoor. Also a special reminder, don't forget to bring sunscreen hats and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun during this period.

Is Thailand Suitable for Seniors?

A senior couple enjoying a peaceful stroll through a beautiful Buddhist temple garden.

Thailand is a country that offers  accessibility, safety, and excellent medical facilities  for senior travelers.

HOW TO TRAVEL THAILAND 🇹🇭 (Ultimate Guide To Paradise)

Accessibility for seniors

A senior couple enjoys a leisurely walk in a wheelchair-accessible garden.

Thailand has put a lot of thought into travel for seniors. Hotels are now built with ramps and lifts, making it easy for senior citizens and wheelchair users to get around. These changes show Thailand’s  disabled-friendly policies  in action.

Big cities like Bangkok have become famous because they take good care of older people.

Plus, there are  Care Resorts in Thailand  that focus on elderly care. They have special services just for older folks. Seniors can enjoy their trip without worry as the staff at these resorts understand their needs well.

You’ll find many places that give travel advice just for mature travelers too! This all shows how much value is given to accessible tourism in Thailand.

Safety concerns

A woman is seen enjoying bottled water on a busy beach in Thailand.

Thailand tops the list as a  safe place  for all, including seniors. Both city spots like Chiang Mai and Bangkok, and more quiet areas are secure for all age groups. Yet, some things need care.

Tap water may give you  stomach bugs . It is best to drink only  bottled water .

Washing hands before eating is also vital in Thailand. This simple act can keep you safe from many health problems during your trip. If you plan on visiting beautiful Koh Phi Phi Island, be careful during  boat trips  and other activities.

The  U.S State Department shares important safety updates  through  Travel Alerts and Advisories . Make sure to check these before your visit to stay informed about any threats or concerns for travelers in Thailand.

Medical facilities

A modern hospital with a garden, showcasing diversity in people and outfits, captured in a sharp and vibrant photograph.

Thailand has a  mix of public and private health systems . Big cities like  Bangkok have top-notch hospitals . They are great for medical tourism. But healthcare is not free for people from other countries.

In these hospitals, you get fine care. Many seniors come here to get affordable treatments. Yet, the quality of healthcare can change in rural areas. It may not be as good as in the city.

So, if you plan to visit more quiet places, think about this fact first. Make sure your health insurance covers any costs that may come up while traveling there! This way, you are always safe on your tours around Thailand.

Recommended Islands for Seniors

A couple enjoying a peaceful stroll on a beautiful beach surrounded by lush greenery.

When considering the best islands for seniors to visit in Thailand, it’s important to weigh factors such as crowds, activities, and accessibility.

The BEST ISLANDS In Thailand 2023 🇹🇭 (Travel Guide)

Comparison of popular islands

A group of senior tourists enjoying a beautiful sunset on a Phuket beach.

Phuket, Ko Samui, Ko Phangan, Ko Lanta, and Ko Chang are some of the popular islands in Thailand that are  recommended for senior travelers . These islands offer a range of family-friendly activities and attractions suitable for all ages.

From picturesque beaches to luxury hotels and vibrant nightlife options, these destinations have something for everyone. The Trang Islands, including Koh Lanta, Koh Ngai, Koh Lipe, and Koh Libong, are also worth considering for their beauty and tranquility.

If you’re looking to explore the natural wonders of Thailand while enjoying a relaxed atmosphere, Krabi Island is another excellent choice.

When comparing these islands for your senior-friendly trip to Thailand, consider factors such as crowds and accessibility. Some islands may be more crowded during peak tourist seasons than others.

Additionally, certain islands may offer more activities tailored towards seniors like guided tours or easy hiking trails. By researching the different options before making your decision about which island(s) to visit during your trip to Thailand will ensure an enjoyable experience for all seniors involved.

Remember that choosing the right island(s) is crucial in creating a memorable vacation experience in Thailand. Take into account factors like safety concerns and medical facilities available on each island when making your decision.

Factors to consider (crowds, activities, etc.)

When planning a senior-friendly tour in Thailand, there are several factors to consider. One important factor is the crowds. It’s best to visit popular islands during the  off-peak season  when there are fewer tourists and more affordable prices.

This allows seniors to enjoy their trip without feeling overwhelmed by large crowds.

Another factor to consider is the range of activities available for seniors. It’s important to choose destinations that offer a  variety of tourist activities  suitable for older adults, such as  historical landmarks  and island exploration.

For example, Ayutthaya offers historical sites and activities that are perfect for seniors.

Additionally, it’s crucial to think about  accommodation options  and  transportation services . Look for hotels with amenities like private balconies or resorts that provide easy accessibility for seniors.

Consider booking private accommodations or hiring transportation services that can cater specifically to older adults’ needs.

Number of days recommended

A diverse group of friends explores the vibrant streets of Bangkok, capturing the bustling atmosphere in crystal clear detail.

When planning a senior trip to Thailand, it’s important to consider the  ideal duration for your visit . The Ultimate Guide to Thailand recommends various itineraries for different lengths of stay, including a  2-week itinerary  that allows you to explore the country’s diverse attractions.

If you’re short on time, there are also sample itineraries available that provide options for spending  one week in Thailand . It’s worth noting that tourists from the U.S., UK, and EU are given a  free 30-day tourist visa  if they enter Thailand by air and 15 days if they enter overland.

This gives you  flexibility in planning your trip  and allows you to make the most of your time in this beautiful country.

Whether you choose to spend your entire trip in Bangkok or divide your time between the bustling city and the serene islands or northern regions, there are plenty of  options available based on your preferences .

For example, The Ultimate Thailand Itinerary for Any Traveler suggests  spending 2-3 days in Bangkok  and 3-4 days either exploring the North or relaxing on one of Thailand’s stunning islands.

Suggested itinerary

A peaceful sunrise over the ancient temples of Ayutthaya, captured in stunning detail and vibrant colors.

For an ideal duration of two weeks, we have created a  suggested itinerary  that covers different aspects of Thailand and is suitable for seniors. Begin your trip by spending 2-3 days in Bangkok, exploring its  vibrant markets, stunning temples, and delicious street food .

Then, choose between the  North or the Islands  for the next 3-4 days. In the North, you can visit Chiang Mai to experience local culture and explore ancient temples. Alternatively, head to the islands such as Phuket or Koh Samui to relax on beautiful beaches and enjoy water activities.

Afterwards, spend a few days exploring other areas of interest in Thailand. You can visit  historical sites like Ayutthaya or Sukhothai  to learn about the country’s rich history. If you prefer nature, consider visiting Khao Sok National Park for  jungle treks and breathtaking scenery .

Throughout your trip, make sure to take breaks and rest as needed. Stay hydrated and wear comfortable shoes for walking tours or excursions. Additionally, don’t forget important essentials such as sunscreen protection against sunburns.

Best Time of Year to Visit Thailand

A photo of a vibrant sunset over a picturesque rice field with a diverse group of people enjoying the scenery.

The best time to visit Thailand is during the dry season, which runs from November to February.

Weather considerations

A vibrant beach scene with a multitude of colorful umbrellas and people enjoying the sunny day.

Thailand’s weather plays an important role in determining the best time to visit. The country has a  tropical climate , with  hot and humid conditions  throughout the year. However, there are certain months that offer more favorable weather for seniors.

The ideal time to travel to Thailand is during the  cool and dry season  between  November and early April . This period is characterized by  pleasant temperatures and low humidity levels , making it comfortable for seniors to explore the country.

During this dry season, you can expect  sunny days with average temperatures  ranging from 75°F (24°C) to 90°F (32°C). It’s neither too hot nor too cold during these months, which makes it perfect for outdoor activities and sightseeing.

In addition, November through March experiences  less rainfall compared to other months  in Thailand. This means you’ll have fewer chances of encountering heavy downpours or having your plans affected by unpredictable weather.

On the other hand, May is associated with rainy weather in Thailand, with long and relentless showers occurring throughout the country. This can make traveling challenging for seniors as it may limit their ability to fully enjoy outdoor activities or explore popular tourist destinations comfortably.

Peak tourist season

November to February is the  peak tourist season  in Thailand. During this time, the weather is cool and dry, making it an ideal climate for senior travelers. Temperatures range from 84°F to 97°F, providing comfortable conditions for exploring popular tourist destinations.

In addition to pleasant weather, the peak season also offers a  variety of festivals and celebrations  throughout Thailand. It’s a great time to witness  cultural events  and immerse yourself in the  vibrant atmosphere  of the country.

Whether you’re looking to relax on beautiful beaches or explore historical sites, visiting Thailand during the peak tourist season ensures optimal travel experiences with  favorable weather conditions .

How to Plan a Senior-Friendly Tour in Thailand

A group of seniors exploring a peaceful Thai temple garden in a variety of outfits and hairstyles.

When planning a senior-friendly tour in Thailand, it is important to choose a reputable tour company that specializes in catering to the needs and interests of older adults. These companies can help customize itineraries with slower-paced activities, comfortable accommodations, and easy accessibility for seniors.

Choosing a reputable tour company

When planning a senior-friendly tour in Thailand, it is essential to choose a  reputable tour company  that specializes in  catering to the needs of older travelers . Look for companies that are  trustworthy, reliable, and well-established  in the industry.

Reading customer reviews and considering the reputation of tour companies can help you make an informed decision. It’s also important to consider factors such as price, activity level, guest ratings, and service when selecting a tour company.

One recommended option is Zicasso, which offers Thailand senior tours and vacation packages from top competing travel agents and tour operators. Another reputable company is EF Educational Tours, known for their excellent accommodations, knowledgeable tour directors, exciting activities, and commitment to safety.

So take your time researching different options before making a final decision on which tour company to go with for your senior-friendly trip to Thailand.

Customizing itineraries for seniors

When planning a senior-friendly tour in Thailand, it’s important to  customize the itinerary  according to the preferences and needs of elderly travelers. One option is to choose a reputable tour company that specializes in customized private or group tours for seniors.

These companies have local knowledge and expertise in creating itineraries that take into account factors such as  accessibility, safety concerns, and medical facilities .

Customization can also involve selecting destinations and activities that cater specifically to older adults. Historical and cultural sites are often popular choices among seniors, as they provide an opportunity to learn about Thailand’s rich heritage.

Additionally, opting for  small group tours  allows for a more intimate experience while still enjoying the benefits of guided travel.

By customizing itineraries for seniors, travel planners can ensure that the trip includes  suitable accommodations , leisurely-paced activities, and enough downtime for rest and relaxation.

Packing essentials

When packing for your senior-friendly tour in Thailand, it’s important to pack the right essentials to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable trip. Start with  lightweight clothing  made from breathable fabrics, as Thailand can be hot and humid.

Don’t forget to bring  sun protection  like hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen with a high SPF. It’s also wise to pack  insect repellent  to protect yourself from mosquitoes. Comfortable walking shoes are a must, especially if you plan on exploring the beautiful temples or bustling markets.

Additionally, bring any necessary medications along with a copy of your prescriptions. And lastly, don’t forget to pack an extra set of clothes in your carry-on bag for any unforeseen travel delays.

Preparing for long flights

To prepare for long flights to Thailand, there are a few things you should keep in mind. First, make sure to  get a good night’s sleep  before your flight. This will help you feel more refreshed and ready for the journey ahead.

It’s also important to  stay hydrated  during the flight, as this can help prevent jet lag and keep you feeling your best. Be sure to drink plenty of water throughout the flight.

In addition, it’s a good idea to  move around and stretch  during the flight. Sitting for long periods can lead to stiffness and discomfort, so try doing some simple exercises or walking up and down the aisle when it’s safe to do so.

If you’re an elderly passenger, consider requesting an aisle seat for easier access to the restroom and stretching your legs. And don’t forget to pack any necessary medication or comfort items in your carry-on bag.

Very much enjoyed the tour. Very well structured and included lots of interesting things to see. I could have done with less temples. Too many temples on the tour, however, all the temples were interesting. Tour guide was very good. His English needs work but overall we could understand him. Very good tour and would recommend it.

The tour was a good experience as it was kinda unique in a different way. Our guide , Suchin Temo was excellent and an added asset to your company indeed! Driver was nice and a safe one too. The only complain to this trip was accommodation. Hot water services was inadequate in most of the hotels (Doi Maesalong, has intermittent hot water and Diamond Park Inn ) has no elevator and AC was blowing hot air all night. Most of the hotel staff (receptionists & resto staff can not speak English or can hardly understand English at all. NEEDS IMPROVEMENT !!!

What people love about northern thailand tours for seniors.

Johnathan was an excellent guide. His knowledge and demeanour were excellent
Geweldig!
Fantastic trip ! I thoroughly enjoyed this experience. Our guide spoke excellent English and was always explaining things to us, sharing information about plants or food or the history of the area and people. He had a great way of keeping the motivation and energy of the group high using laughter and fun. He’s just so good at his job. The local guides worked so hard for us as well carrying water and supplies and stepping stones if necessary. The host families were amazing preparing delicious foods and sharing their culture and customs. This is a really unique and challenging trip to take (from the perspective of opening your mind to a very different lifestyle). A few things to be aware of: you absolutely need proper water shoes or sandals as there’s a lot of river crossing and flip flops are too unstable, facilities in some places may be limited such as electricity, indoor plumbing or showers. Water may be boiled. The children in the villages are the best as they seem to really enjoy interacting with the tourists! Along with the introduction to traditional Thai cultural customs I got to make friends with a group of people of all ages who came from all over the world. So fun ! Just do it you won’t regret it !

"I didn’t take this tour exactly, but made some changes based on my schedule and interests and travel dates. It was my first time in Southeast Asia and I was a traveling solo female. Liz my trip consultant and contact person was so helpful and responsive to any and all my concerns and questions. It was a trip of a lifetime. I can not gush enough about the itinerary and experiences. I am completely impressed with is company and this person. Ya ya in Chang Mai and Sam in Bangkok are top notch guides. The diving in Phuket was arranged with Siam diving, a small private boat not an over stuffed crowded one. It felt like we were the only people in the ocean. Goo, GO, GO!!!!"

Tips for Senior Travelers in Thailand

Senior citizens are highly revered in Thai society and are treated with deference and respect, which comes as a pleasant surprise to many first-time Western visitors. Unfortunately, this deference does not stretch to offering the kind of discounts on transport and admission fees that you might be used to back home. There are exceptions, however, and it's always worth asking politely if there are preferable rates for senior citizens, as Thais take pride in accommodating their guests' wishes.

Note : This information was accurate when it was published, but can change without notice. Please be sure to confirm all rates and details directly with the companies in question before planning your trip.

Thailand Tours & Vacations

Two women talking with their guide next to the buddhas at the WatPho temple

Thailand is an idyllic paradise, where jungle-covered karsts plunge into aquamarine waters and the sand is sugar white.

But no matter how clichéd the fantasy, Thailand delivers in spades. The water around Krabi and Ko Tao really is that deep, cool shade of blue. Phi Phi’s limestone karsts really do look like some alien world. And the food? Let’s just say your local Pad Thai has nothing on Chiang Mai’s street stalls or the floating markets of Amphawa, where little old ladies do things with fish sauce and chili you never thought possible. From the waterfalls of Erawan to a homestay with the hill tribes of the Golden Triangle, these adventures go beyond the tourist traps. Buckle up.

Best time to visit thailand.

Thailand's climate is generally hot, humid, and at times (like other South East Asian countries) monsoonal. The seasons differ from coast to coast, so depending on which areas you're visiting, the weather can vary.

Thailand's mainland region is great to visit from November to February when the weather is cooler and dryer.

If you are planning on visiting the Gulf Coast (east), avoid the northeast monsoon that brings rain from October to January. For destinations like Phuket on the west side of the peninsula, the best time is November to April to avoid the other monsoon which causes Thailand's wet season from May to October.

Culture and customs

Often considered the epicenter of Buddhism, religion permeates daily life in Thailand. Sprinkled throughout the country are thousands of golden temples, where you’ll find Buddhist monks in orange robes walking the streets. Young men are expected to spend some time as a monk as it bestows honor on their families. Visitors should be respectful of monks and dress modestly when visiting a temple (cover your knees and shoulders and remove your shoes).

Like other Asian nations, the concept of ‘saving face’ is important. This means avoiding conflict or embarrassment in order to preserve social standing, dignity, and honor. Thai people will go out of their way to avoid ‘losing face’. Losing your temper or raising your voice are surefire ways to lose face and can be perceived as volatile or rude.

Eating and drinking

Thai food has everything from spicy dishes packed with chilis to milder coconut-based curries. With street stalls and night markets all over the country, it's really easy to pick up a snack wherever you are in Thailand. On many Intrepid trips, you'll be given the opportunity to have dinner with a local family – this offers a great chance to see how meals are prepared and learn more about the local culture. Go a step further on our 8-day Thailand Read Food Adventure to watch, eat, prepare, and present tasty and traditional Thai cuisine.

Things to try in Thailand

1. Pad Thai (Phat Thai)

A well-known dish but for good reason. This delicious plate of stir-fried rice noodles garnished with peanuts is full of flavor and can be served with fresh prawns, chicken, tofu, or vegetables.

2. Tom Yum (Tom Yam)

Usually prepared with stock, lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, and chili, this soup is widely available in Thailand and has been popularised around the world.

3. Green curry

One of many curries that Thais do so well. Green curry consists of chicken, Thai eggplant, and chilies bathed in a coconut milk-based sauce.

4. Som tam (green papaya salad)

This northern dish of shredded raw papaya, cherry tomatoes, and green beans is a tantalizing mix of sweet, spicy, and sour flavors.

5. Coconut water

For a super fresh thirst quencher, try coconut water straight from the husk.

6. Tropical fruit

Fruit shakes and fresh fruit juices are widely available from markets and restaurants – make the most of all the tropical fruits of Thailand.

Geography and environment

Sharing borders with South East Asian neighbors  Cambodia ,   Laos ,   Malaysia   , and   Myanmar   (Burma), Thailand's natural environment varies greatly from region to region. From the steamy jungles and misty highlands in the north to the white sand beaches and picturesque islands of the south, Thailand's everchanging landscape has been fascinating and entertaining travelers for centuries.

The capital, Bangkok, is a heaving, urban jungle with skyscrapers, street vendors, markets, cars, tuk-tuks, bicycles, and masses of people all competing for space. Despite this, there are pockets of quiet beauty to be found with parks, temples, and traditional shop fronts scattered throughout the city.

Rural areas in the north are typically quieter, with locals living a more traditional way of life; the frenetic pace of the city giving way to a more slow-paced, agricultural-based lifestyle. Houses are simple, there's more space and less of the modern conveniences. Jungles, rivers, bamboo huts, and teak houses are more commonly seen here, and birds and other animal life are more abundant.

History and government

Early history.

Communities based on agriculture (such as rice growing) inhabited Siam (Thailand) as early as the 6th century. In the following centuries, Siam came under the influence of the Khmer, Dvaravati, and Malay cultures, with some temples and monuments in modern-day Thailand showing evidence of this influence. In the 13th century, the city of Sukhothai in northern Thailand became an important capital. The ruins of the Sukhothai Historical Park (a UNESCO World Heritage site) feature remnants of the royal palace, temples, and other buildings and highlight the artistic and architectural features of the era.

Ayutthaya rose to prominence as the new capital in the 14th century and was considered a powerhouse of South East Asia as one of the most important centers of trade in the world. Enduring many battles, invasions, overthrows, and coups, Ayutthaya's far-reaching trade with other regions ensured a flourishing influence of art, weaponry, religion, and cuisine. Much wealth was generated by this enormous empire, with grand palaces, ornate buildings, and huge temples featured throughout the city. All this came to an end when the Burmese invaded in the 18th century, bringing the kingdom to ruin and resulting in the loss of many artistic and cultural treasures. Despite this, the ruins of the city are still standing, have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, and are a great day trip from Bangkok. See the sights of ancient and recent Thai history during a 3 day River Kwai and Ancient Thai Kingdoms tour.

Recent history

Thonburi was established as the capital of Siam by General Taksin in the late 18th century, yet this didn't last long with Taksim being deposed and executed not long after. Bangkok was then named capital by General Chakri, who became Rama I - the first king of the Rama Dynasty.

Over the years, Siam (Thailand) remained the only South East Asian country to remain free from European colonization. In 1932, the Siamese Revolution resulted in a constitutional monarchy being formed, and in 1941, Thailand invaded French Indochina, overpowered the French, and claimed Laos.

In the last thirty years, Thailand has seen political power change hands many times, often due to coups, revolutions, and protests. Despite this, Thailand’s economy continues to grow due to its strong tourist industry. Enduring all this, the much-loved King Rama IX has reigned as the Head of State since 1946 - claiming the title of the longest-reigning monarch in the world and providing Thai people with a stable figure to rely upon.

Enjoy this historical park for yourself during a 10 day Highlights of Thailand tour.

6. Sukhothai

This former capital is a history buff's heaven. Nicknamed the 'Dawn of Happiness', Sukhothai still recalls Siam's golden age with its superb statues, marvelous monuments, and lotus flowers in full bloom. A trip to the night market is a real eye-opener; try everything from fried rice to fried bugs.

Stop by Sukhothai on our 8 day Explore Northern Thailand adventure.

The waters surrounding Krabi are dotted with hundreds of limestone karst islands. Kayakers and rock climbers will love exploring them, while others can travel to the nearby floating villages or just relax on one of the region's perfect beaches.

We've made sure to stop by Krabi on our incredible 28 day Bangkok to Bali adventure - you'll thank us later.

Coast through the must-see sights of Phang Nga Bay on our 8 day Phuket Sailing Adventure.

Bustling street markets filled with colorful vendors selling an assortment of goods can be found in small villages and large towns throughout the country. Luxurious, multi-level shopping malls that rival those in European cities are increasingly popping up.

The Chatuchak Weekend Market in Bangkok is perhaps the largest and most extensive market in the world. Here vendors sell everything you can think of, from ceramics to Thai silk to vintage clothing. Bartering is expected at markets and most small vendors. As a rule of thumb, if the price isn’t listed, it’s negotiable. But remember, Thais appreciate friendliness and a sense of humor. The more aggressive you are in trying to get a deal, the less likely you are to get one.

Things to buy in Thailand

  • Vibrant fabric cushions, tablecloths, and hammocks
  • Silver jewelry (look for reputable stores)
  • Handcrafted umbrellas or parasols
  • Thai silk scarves, ties, wraps, and clothing
  • Colorful Celadon ceramics
  • Tailor-made clothing

Festival and events

Loy krathong (festival of lights).

During the 12th lunar month, people across the country gather around lakes, rivers, and canals to symbolically let their worries float away in the most magical way – by releasing colorful lotus-shaped rafts holding candles, incense, and flowers onto the water.

Yee Peng (or Yi Peng)

At the same time that Loy Krathong is taking place, Chiang Mai also celebrates Yee Peng. Religious events, cultural activities, and street parades all mark this Buddhist tradition. But what makes this festival truly spectacular is the release of thousands of sky lanterns that illuminate the sky.

Songkran (Thai New Year)

What happens when New Year’s Day falls during the height of summer? It morphs into a giant water fight. Some towns celebrate just on the day (April 13), while others stretch it out for several days of concerts, ceremonies, and other wet festivities.

Chiang Mai Flower Festival

Flowers are used in ways you never thought imaginable at this colorful three-day event in February. Come for the parade of impressive floral floats, and stay for the tasty Thai street food, music, and performances.

What's the transport like in Thailand?

Intrepid believes half the fun of experiencing a new country is getting there, and getting around once there! Where possible, Intrepid uses local transport options and traditional modes of transport - which usually carry less of an environmental impact, support small local operators, and are more fun.

Depending on which trip you're on while in Thailand, you may find yourself traveling by Songthaew.

Get to know the locals as you share a ride in these converted pick-up trucks. Snagging a seat on the ‘two benches’ (the literal meaning of songthaew) is a popular way of getting around South East Asia.

See Thailand from the ground level on a Saamlaw, the three-wheeled wonder. Sometimes motorized but usually pedal-powered by a local, it’s a fun way to get from A to B or see a new city's sights.

Traveling with Intrepid is a little bit different. We endeavor to provide travelers with an authentic experience to remember, so we try to keep accommodations as unique and traditional as possible.

When traveling with us in Thailand you may find yourself staying in a Homestay.

Experience friendly Thai hospitality while staying with a local family living a traditional way of life. Make new friends, pick up some local lingo and leave smiling.

The ultimate room with a view - spend the night on a floating bamboo raft house. Enjoy the seclusion, soak up the serenity and leave feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.

Does my trip to Thailand support The Intrepid Foundation?

Yes, all Intrepid trips support the Intrepid Foundation. In fact, we make a donation on behalf of every traveler. Trips to Thailand directly support our foundation partner, EcoThailand Foundation .

EcoThailand Foundation is on a mission to educate and empower local communities, on the tourist Islands of Koh Phangan and Koh Paluay, about environmental issues like climate change, waste management, nature appreciation, conservation and sustainable lifestyles. Donations from our trips help EcoThailand's environmental guardianship education program for children in local state schools.

Intrepid will double the impact by dollar-matching all post-trip donations made to The Intrepid Foundation.

Do I need to purchase travel insurance before traveling?

7 Things You Must Do In Thailand

thailand tour packages for senior citizens

Table of Contents

Have you ever considered traveling to Thailand? It should be on your bucket list and there is no time like the present to make it happen. Thailand is a long way from the United States so plan on going for more than a day. A couple of weeks is a better time frame. Just plan your trip carefully and take advantage of stops along the way. Remember to talk to your doctor before starting your trip. Taking baby aspirin and wearing compression socks may be of benefit as you will be on the flight for quite a few hours. However, the planning is worth it. Travel to see the best of Thailand.

Travel to Thailand between November and April to avoid the rainy weather notorious during the other months of the year. The jet lag going there is not easy but the jet lag coming back is much worse. Be prepared but do not let this stop you. The best of Thailand is a must-see at least once in your life. Per the Coworker Lab:  Thailand is simply “heaven on earth for foodies.”  Be prepared for a feast!

Arrive in Bangkok

Getting to Thailand is not inexpensive but the relatively low cost after you arrive makes the trip more affordable. The Thai baht is the currency in Thailand. As of this writing, one Thai baht is an awesome $.029. You read it correctly! However, expect to pay “normal” travel costs for lodging and food in Bangkok. The costs go down significantly when you reach the outlying areas. You can discover rooms in Bangkok for 400 THB ($11.60), or a hotel for 1350 THB ($39.15). This may not be the norm so do not plan your costs according to this. Be prepared for Western rates as travel to Thailand becomes more frequent by those in the United States.

Must Do’s In Thailand

Thailand’s majestic temples and other historical structures prove its name, the “Jewel of South Asia”. The country consists of a treasure chest of sultry beaches, breathtaking sceneries, highly imbibed traditions, and lush culture that you must do in Thailand. You should definitely dive into its exquisite culture and cuisine. Be sure to try the street food as it is delicious. You will be disappointed if you do not experience this part of your travel to Thailand.

Bangkok is the country’s capital which is a mecca of tourist attractions in itself but heading out to the outskirts of Bangkok will truly make your entire Thai experience complete. Be sure to visit all of the other great locations you must do in Thailand: Chiang Mai, Hua Hin, Phuket, and Ko Tao.

Khao Yai National Park

Khao Yai National Park is a protected area in Thailand that was established in 1962. It covers an area of over 2,000 square kilometers and is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, including elephants, tigers, and several species of birds and reptiles. Haeo_Suwat_waterfall

It is the third largest national park in Thailand and contains over 50 kilometers (or 31 miles) of hiking trails. You can go on a night safari and admire the abundant fauna. If you are up for it, you can trek to Wang Haew Falls and get a glimpse of the dinosaur footprint.

The park is also home to lavish sites including the fauna and some gorgeous waterfalls. It is a site worth seeing and is one of the best in Thailand.

Wat Phra That Doi Suthep, Chiang Mai

Visitors to the temple can explore the beautiful grounds and buildings, and learn more about the history and culture of Thailand.

The Grand Palace

It is a major attraction in Bangkok and is visited by millions of tourists each year. The palace is located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River and covers an area of over 2 million square feet.

Thailand FAQ

Thailand facts for visitors.

thailand tour packages for senior citizens

His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej is the longest reigning monarch in the world, having celebrated his 67th year of reign in 2013. He and the rest of the Royal Family are greatly revered by the Thai people.

Thailand is one of the most strongly Buddhist countries in the world with more than 90% of Thais practicing Theravada Buddhism. There are many other faiths in Thailand, all of which are allowed full freedom of expression. The temple (wat) is very important in Thai society and is the heart of social and religious life. Monks are highly revered.

Thailand has a growing population of about 55 million and 10% is flooded in the capital of Bangkok. It is basically an agricultural country and about 75% of the people work in the fields. Those living near the coastal zones are engaged in commercial fishing and marine farming from fish and prawns to oysters. The other 25% work in the cities. Assimilation of other races from Burma, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam in the early past was inevitable, being sandwiched in the middle of these countries. It is the tolerant nature of the Thais, which largely account for the large groups from neighboring countries who have now become Thai citizens. Besides its neighbors early immigrants come from as far as India, China, Malaysia and even European countries. These groups thus account for 20% of the population amongst 80% of ethnic Thais. The ethnic composition is as diverse as Thailand's attractions, especially so among tourist belts and coastal regions. The hill-tribes form a very interesting group in the northern highlands. History links them as far as China and Mongolia and some of them have fair skin and slanted light brown eyes. There are about 400,000 hill tribes living in the north, with their own language and culture - truly an enriching experience when visiting their homesteads. They are the Karen, Lahus, Yao, Akha, Lisu and Meo. The last hill tribes are more exposed to the commercial world and could be seen even in Bangkok and other provinces selling their handicraft. (Handicrafts purchased at their villages have a better chance to be authentic, as duplicates have been manufactured.)

Thai is the official and national language in Thailand used at all levels of administration in government and other commercial offices. Thailand Frequently Asked Questions

We help you prepare for your trip and ensure an effortless and enjoyable travel experience.

How many days are enough for Thailand?

Thailand is one of the most sought-after destinations, especially for those planning their first international trip. From radiant beaches and majestic temples to delicious street food, exotic spa treatment, and bustling shopping hubs, there is something for everyone in Thailand. Also, there are many exciting places to visit nearby, such as Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi, Chiang Mai, and more. So, the number of days in Thailand depends on your requirements and the places you wish to visit. However, to get the most out of Thailand, you should plan on spending about at least 6 to 8 days. You can check and book any of our Thailand packages with an itinerary that includes all popular places in the country.

Is Thailand safe to travel to?

Yes, Thailand is a safe country to travel even if you are a solo traveller. However, you should always take safety precautions and be aware of your surroundings when travelling to Thailand, or anywhere for that matter. As long as you stay alert, be cautious and keep an eye on your belongings, etc., you will not have to worry about it. Also, COVID-19 restrictions and preventative measures are still in effect in many places, so be prepared with proof of vaccination or a test result. Additionally, we assure your safety and security throughout the visit with Veena World’s Thailand tour package.

What should avoid in Thailand?

Thailand is a must-visit country for any budding traveller. But to enjoy your trip to the fullest, you should know what to do and what not to. It is a country dominated by the Buddhist school of thought, so it is wise to maintain more silence and avoid being loud. Drugs and gambling are illegal, so you must avoid them. Some other avoidable things include avoiding touching anyone's head as it is seen as disrespectful, overstaying your visa period, wearing shoes at religious places, clicking pictures with animals, and drinking tap water. Book from the best of Thailand holiday packages, but be aware of things to do and not to do in this beautiful and culturally-rich country.

What are the most popular tourist attractions in Thailand?

Whether you are a fun traveller, an avid history buff, or a nature enthusiast, Thailand has all the attractions to please everyone. From sleepy mountain villages to bustling cities and pristine islands, you can find everything here. Some of the best places to visit here are Railay tops, one of the best beaches in the country, Phi Phi Islands, The Grand Palace, Bangkok, Sukhothai Old City, Historic City of Ayutthaya, Beaches of Koh Samui, Doi Suthep, Floating Markets, Kanchanaburi Bridge, Waterfalls at Erawan National Park and more. You can select the best Thailand trip package from Veena World that includes the places listed above and enjoy an unforgettable trip with your family and friends.

Is Thailand worth visiting?

Absolutely! Thailand is called one of the jewels of Southeast Asia, and for a reason. There are many attractions in Thailand, and each provides a great experience in its own way. So, everyone should visit this country at least once in their lifetime to explore the local culture, exotic wildlife, welcoming people, magnificently-structured temples, and many more. Thailand is known as the Land of Smile, where your trip experience is sure to stay with you for a long time! Veena World’s Thailand travel packages will allow you to enjoy your time like never before.

Do you provide a customized holiday to Thailand?

Yes, we do provide Customized Holidays  to Thailand. The customized holiday allows you to personalize the tour your way, as we keep your preferences on the top of our priorities. Enjoy your trip according to your needs and desire by customizing your Thailand tour without hassles. All you need to do is contact and tell us about your preferred places and stay options in Thailand to include in your itinerary, and we will create a customized holiday for you.

What is the best month to go to Thailand?

The best time to visit Thailand is between November and February when the weather is cool and pleasant. The rainy season, which lasts from July to October, is characterized by heavy rainfall and high humidity. Many islands closed down during this time to ensure safety. The second-best can be the shoulder season from April to June, with fewer crowds and less humidity. Flight tickets and accommodation prices fall during this time period, making it ideal for budget travel. You can book one of the Thailand tour packages from Veena World during this time to make your trip more cost-effective.

Is a Group tour a good option for travelling to Thailand?

If you want to witness Thailand in an affordable, lively, and unified way, then a group tour is the best option for travelling to Thailand. Moreover, booking one of Veena World's group tours to Thailand allows you to travel hassle-free with our professional and caring Tour Manager. This way, the group's on-road needs are taken care of well. The group can enjoy their trip to Thailand to the fullest. Group tours to Thailand are an excellent way to experience a new place together, whether you are travelling with your extended family, groups of friends, colleagues, or other like-minded travellers.

Which is the best part of Thailand for stay purposes?

Thailand being one of the big countries in terms of size, you can expect many worthful parts in and around to stay. It usually depends on your preferences and overall budget. Veena World offers customized holiday packages to Thailand that allow you to stay in your preferred part of the country. Some of the best parts of Thailand are:

•    Bangkok – Budget-friendly accommodations.

•    Phuket – Cultural attractions are within walking distance of hotels.

•    Chiang Mai – Peaceful and vibrant surroundings.

If you want to discuss more or have suggestions for your stay options, connect with our travel advisor to plan your trip conveniently.

How much money should I bring with me to Thailand?

Although Thailand is quite an economical place, the money you should carry here depends on the purpose and luxury of your visit. When you make a booking with Veena World, we usually take care of all services and sightseeing included in your Thailand tour package itinerary. However, tourists should bring enough money for personal expenses to indulge in shopping, trying out the local cuisine, having beverages, renting a vehicle and other amenities offered by the hotel/resort as well as for any emergency due to medical reasons or unforeseen situations. You can get your currency exchanged for the local currency (Thai Baht) through several providers located in proximity to tourists’ attractions or carry an international credit or debit card or a forex card.

Exclusive Tourist Packages For Retired Seniors At Travel Agent Rates Announced

Many retirees plan to spend their golden years traveling, but recent spikes in travel costs are cutting deeper into their savings than expected. Travorium, a little-known travel booking platform, announces new tourist packages for senior citizens at prices normally only available to travel agents.

thailand tour packages for senior citizens

Englewood, United States - April 11, 2024 —

The announcement comes as the off-season, when many seniors vacation due to lower prices and volume, draws to a close. Seniors living on fixed incomes are more likely to be able to afford the rates Travorium offers even during the traditional summer holiday season.

Interested parties can learn more at https://legacybuildersalliance.com/secret-travel-booking-site?ts=a913c057

Many in the industry trumpet how good travel is for younger individuals, but experts say it’s extremely beneficial for seniors, too, according to Senior Living. Globetrotting keeps older adults active, which lowers their risk of high blood pressure, stroke, heart disease, and other health challenges. The problem-solving and exploring inherent to any vacation stimulates and challenges the brain, too.

While many senior citizens discuss traveling during retirement, only 18 percent have saved to fund those dreams. And even that money may not go as far toward today’s expenses. But using Travorium, seniors can pay members-only rates for lodging, rental cars, excursions, and more. Many packages include pre-planned, easy-booking options.

Popular travel booking sites are known to increase their prices to boost their own profits. Travorium, a secret travel site, cuts out unnecessary fees and other extra costs to offer rates that travel agents normally pay. Some users pay up to 70 percent off typical retail costs.

Warmer destinations like Florida, Nevada, Las Vegas, and Texas still top retirees’ lists of places to visit, according to U.S. News & World Report. Travorium offers stays at resorts in Orlando and Las Vegas, in addition to further-flung options like the Mexican Riviera and Bali. Members can use their travel points at more than 2,000 resorts around the world.

Travorium’s revolutionary direct sales model allows individuals to build income to support their travel expenses or other lifestyle needs. As individuals grow their network, they create a residual income that continues to pay month over month and can be passed down through family.
