FAQ: Disney Cruise Line Room Service

There is no shortage of food available on the Disney Cruise Line ships – from the elaborately themed main dining rooms and the elegant adult restaurants to the unlimited soft serve ice cream on tap and the pool deck burger and pizza stations, there are noshes around every corner. But if you don’t feel like venturing out of your stateroom, there is plenty you can eat right there. Yep, you can get room service during your cruise!

disney cruise line room service breakfast

There are plenty of times when you might need some sustenance but you don’t want to venture out of your room. These might include:

  • You have an early morning port excursion and you want to sleep as long as possible before heading out.
  • You have the late seating for dinner and you want an afternoon snack to tide your over.
  • You have the late night, or middle of the night, munchies.
  • You want to surprise your kids/parter with a sweet treat.
  • Your port excursion arrived back at the ship late and you missed your assigned dinner seating.
  • You have a hankering to eat something that’s on the room service menu.
  • You’re watching a great movie on your stateroom TV and don’t want to stop to go to a restaurant.
  • You need to stay in the room with your napping child and want a snack.
  • You want to feed your children early before dropping them at kids clubs as you head out to dinner at the adult dining venues.
  • Your stateroom is on Deck 2 and you’re feeling too lazy to go up to Deck 11 for a sandwich. (It’s vacation, we don’t judge.)
  • You love dining on your own verandah, looking at the sea.

Where do I find the menu?

disney cruise line room service breakfast

The main source for room service menu information is your Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. In the post-COVID world, the app, which was once merely helpful, is now an absolute necessity. In addition to serving many (many, many) other functions, the app has complete menu information for all the onboard restaurants, bars, and other dining experiences, including room service.

In addition to the app, you may also find a room service breakfast order form located in your stateroom’s desk drawer.

What’s on the menu?

Here are the official offerings.

Continental Breakfast:

  • Beverages: orange juice, apple juice, grapefruit juice, low fat milk, whole milk, skim milk, chocolate milk, hot chocolate, decaf coffee, regular coffee, hot tea
  • Cold cereals: Corn flakes, raisin bran, Rice Krispies, Froot Loops, Special K, Frosted Flakes, low-fat granola
  • Fresh fruit bowl
  • Bakery items: danish, muffins, croissants, doughnuts, English muffins, white or wheat toast, bagel
  • Condiments: butter, margarine, cream cheese, jam, honey

disney cruise line room service breakfast

Lunch and dinner:

  • “All Hands On Deck” – cheese and cracker plate
  • Salads: Chicken Caesar salad, Greek salad, mixed green salad, grilled salmon salad
  • Soups: Creamy tomato soup, chicken noodle soup
  • Baked macaroni and cheese
  • Chicken tenders with fries
  • Grilled hot dog with fries and sauerkraut
  • Cheeseburger or hamburger with fries and coleslaw
  • Buffalo chicken wings with dipping sauces
  • Pizza: Pepperoni, cheese, or Margherita
  • Sandwiches (served with coleslaw and potato chips): BLT; New York steak panini with caramelized onions; tomato, basil, and mozzarella panini; grilled cheese
  • Desserts: Key lime pie, chocolate chip cookie, oatmeal raisin cookie

What is this going to cost me?

Everything listed above is free. (Well, free in the sense that there is no additional charge above the cost of your cruise.) The only cost for ordering the items above is a tip for the cast member that brings the tray to your stateroom.

disney cruise line room service breakfast

Is there a different menu that costs money?

You can get few snacky items added to your room service order, for a small additional charge. These include packaged M&Ms, salted peanuts or cashews, or packaged popcorn.

Beer, wine, canned soda (Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, ginger ale), and bottled water (Dasani, Smartwater, or Evian) are also available for an additional fee, as are specialty coffees, a fruit smoothie, and a fresh green juice.

As an example of pricing, a can of Coke costs $2.00 via DCL room service.

A member of my party has a food allergy, can we be accommodated with room service?

Probably. A few of the items on the regular menu (above) have allergy information next to them. For example, the chicken soup is coded DF, for dairy free, and the Greek salad is coded GF, for gluten free.

Additionally, there may be allergy-friendly items available that are not on the official menu. For example, if you need something like almond milk or soy milk instead of cow’s milk, they may be able to provide this. There may also be packaged allergy-free cookies and other snacks that are available off-menu.

disney cruise line room service breakfast

That said, all the DCL menus have a disclaimer at the bottom which reads, “Disney Cruise Line cannot guarantee that allergens may not have been introduced during another stage of the food chain process or, even inadvertently, during preparation. We do not have separate kitchens to prepare allergen-free items or separate dining areas for guests with allergies or intolerances. Please alert your server to any food allergy concerns before placing your order.”

Whenever you’re traveling with someone with a food allergy or other medical issue, be sure to complete and return the Request Special Services form at least 60 days prior to your departure.

How do I order room service?

To order room service breakfast, fill out the order form that’s in your stateroom desk. Be sure to note the number of each item you’d like to receive. For example, if you two glasses of orange juice, mark a “2” in the OJ box. You should also select a half-hour delivery window. Place the order form on the outside doorknob of your stateroom prior to 3:00 a.m.

disney cruise line room service breakfast

For all other room service orders, or if you have questions about any menu items, just pick up the telephone in your cabin and press the “Room Service” call button.

How much do I tip?

A gratuity is optional for most room service orders; however, tipping is polite and greatly appreciated. The amount you tip is at your discretion. If you’re looking for a rule of thumb, start with $1 per item ordered or $2-3 per person and go up from there.

On a recent cruise on the Dream, my daughter and I ordered room service continental breakfast of coffee, fruit, and cereal. We tipped $5.

How do I tip?

You can hand your server cash, or there is a line on the room service delivery receipt to have a gratuity added via your stateroom account.

disney cruise line room service breakfast

Do I have to order a whole meal?

Nope. My unofficial assessment of the situation is that it may be more common to order a few disparate items rather than a full meal, though you’re certainly welcome to do that as well. Go ahead and just order cheese and crackers as an afternoon nosh or just a plate of cookies and milk before bed.

How long will it take my room service order to arrive?

In my experience, breakfast orders reliably arrive during your selected delivery window.

In most cases, non-breakfast room service orders arrive with 20-30 minutes. If you have concerns about timing, just ask what the situation is when you place your order. They may know if they’re running behind.

Are there times when I can’t order room service?

Room service is available 24 hours a day up until 1:30 a.m. on debarkation morning for most guests.

Guests staying in concierge level rooms often have the ability to order breakfast room service on their departure morning.

disney cruise line room service breakfast

I’ve seen people post photos of food in their room that doesn’t look like it’s on the room service menu listed above. What’s up with that?

There are a number of possible explanations:

  • They’re eating food that they picked up themself at the pool-deck quick service location or at the buffet. You’re welcome to get a plate of peel-and-eat shrimp at Cabana’s, for example, and bring it back to your room.
  • The food is an onboard gift item purchased by the cruiser, by the cruiser’s travel agent, or by the cruiser’s friends or family. Onboard food-related gift items include cakes and cupcakes, fruit platters, and specialty beverages.
  • The food was a Castaway Club perk. Platinum level Castaway members (guests who have completed at least 10 DCL sailings) are entitled to a gift that may include food items.
  • The guests are in a concierge level stateroom. Guests in concierge rooms that include a dining table are allowed to order any main dining room food to their stateroom.
  • The food is related to a special sailing. For example, DCL will often give a box of fancy chocolates to guests on holiday sailings.
  • It’s an off-menu item. DCL may have some room service offerings available that aren’t on the official menu. For example, you may be able to get Mickey-shaped ice cream bars delivered. If there’s something you have hankering for and don’t see it on the menu, it can’t hurt to ask.

What do I do with my room service tray when I’m done?

disney cruise line room service breakfast

You can just put the tray in the hallway outside your room when you’re done eating. The proper next step is to call room service again to ask them to remove the tray from the hall, but it will eventually disappear whether you do that or not.

If you have something messy on your tray, a half-eaten bowl of mac & cheese, for example, it’s nice to cover your tray with a napkin when you put it out so that other guests don’t have to look at your discards.

If you’ve ordered something from room service that you’d like to save for later, maybe you got a fruit bowl for breakfast but want to eat it later in the day, you may want to put it into your stateroom refrigerator so that your room attendant doesn’t mistake it for refuse.

I just need some ice. Is that part of room service?

You can get ice by calling room service, or if you happen to see your stateroom host, you can ask them for ice as well. You can also use either of these methods to get things like extra glasses or a corkscrew.

Any other room service tips?

Some guests will order a pot of coffee just before bedtime. The DCL coffee carafe typically keeps drinks warm for many hours. By ordering at night, they’ll be able to wake up to a pot of coffee without having to wait for a morning delivery.

Dining on a Disney Cruise: A Complete Guide

Whether traveling with family or a couples-only trip, Disney Cruise Line is our absolute favorite way to vacation! One of the highlights for us is the food. We absolutely love the amazing food, fabulous service and unique dining experiences on board these four wonderful ships. In this post, we will provide a complete guide with everything you need to know about rotational dining and the main dining restaurants, the buffet, counter-service locations, specialty restaurants, room service and more. After reading this post, you will know exactly what to expect when it comes to dining on a Disney Cruise!

Dining on Disney Cruise Line

  • Rotational Dining on Disney Cruise Line

Rotational Dining is one of the highlights of a Disney Cruise Line vacation! It’s definitely something that sets apart a Disney cruise from other cruise lines. Many cruise lines have a ‘Main Dining Room’ where you dine each night. On many lines, you will have the same server each night. If you want to dine elsewhere, there are often what is called Specialty Restaurants that you can dine at instead. These Specialty Restaurants typically have an additional charge to eat there, while the Main Dining Room dinners are included. Essentially, you are having to choose between having your food included and getting to eat at a variety of restaurants. Plus, you only get the same servers if you eat in the same place each night.

The Disney Cruise Line Difference

Disney Cruise Line has developed a system that allows you to have the best of both options – Rotational Dining. With Rotational Dining, you have the same service team each night, your dinners are included and you still get to eat at each of the different restaurants!  Your party will have an assigned table number and service team which will remain the same throughout your cruise, regardless of which restaurant you are eating at. Each night, you will be assigned to one of the 3 main restaurants on the ship, and you will rotate through them each night depending on the duration of your cruise. For example, on a 3-night cruise you will eat at each restaurant once, while on a 7-night cruise you will eat at two restaurants twice, and one restaurant 3x.

As you move to a new restaurant each night, you sit at the same table number and your server, assistant server and head server move with you! On the 4 th night, you will return to the first restaurant again and if your cruise is longer, you will continue to cycle through the restaurants again. However, each night of the cruise there will also be a different menu. This system is one of our favorite parts about dining on a Disney cruise!

Your Dining Team on Disney Cruise Line

The incredible service team that follows you each night is a highlight of their cruise for many guests! By being with you throughout the cruise, they really get to know you and your family. They’ll probably remember what you like to drink by the second or third night, and have it ready for you when you arrive at the table! Another highlight is the uniquely themed restaurants you’ll be dining in throughout your cruise! Keep reading to see which restaurants are offered on each ship.

Disney Cruise Restaurants

Click here for more about Rotational Dining!

Main Restaurants

Each ship has three main restaurants that you will rotate through with Rotational Dining. However, each ship has different restaurants! Some of them are present on multiple ships, while others are exclusive to just one or two ships. In addition to eating your main dinners here, typically one of the restaurants will be open each day during breakfast and lunch for an a la carte option. Check out our list below to see all of the main restaurants on the ships!

Enchanted Garden

On the Dream and the Fantasy, the Enchanted Garden Restaurant is located on Deck 2 Midship. This gorgeous dining room is themed after the beautiful gardens of Versailles. Enjoy a delightful meal at twilight with the day fading to evening around you as you dine. As the sky turns from daylight blue to sunset red, and finally to the twinkling stars, you’ll also see flower light fixtures bloom around you. This is certainly an enchanted garden, indeed! This restaurant is so beautiful we actually took some wedding photos here, which turned out beautiful (see below!)

disney cruise line room service breakfast

Tritons/Lumiere’s/Royal Palace/Royal Court

First, these restaurants all have a different name and a slightly different design on each ship. However, these restaurants have a similar vibe and are all located in the lobby atrium of the ship on Deck 3 Midship. The lobby atrium is the first place you see when you enter the ship for the first time! These restaurants each have an elegant, upscale theme inspired by gorgeous palaces and Disney royalty. You’ll feel as though you’ve entered a royal ballroom in one of Disney’s classic princess movies!

Animator’s Palate

Animator’s Palate is the only restaurant that is on all 4 of the Disney ships. However, the concept varies depending on which ship you are on. On the Magic and Wonder, the restaurant has a black and white hand-drawn sketch theme, which will turn to color during one magical dining experience. Meanwhile, on the Dream and Fantasy, the theme of the restaurant is designed after an artist’s studio. Here, during your meal you’ll be immersed under the sea and into the world of Finding Nemo. On sailings 7 nights or longer, you’ll also get to enjoy Animation Magic. This is a show where every guest gets to draw their own character and see it come to life during the show. Regardless of which ship you’re on, dinner at Animator’s Palate will be an amazing experience!

Rapunzel’s Royal Table

On the Disney Magic, you can experience a delightful dining experience at this restaurant themed after the movie Tangled! Enjoy a feast fit for royalty as you celebrate the return of the lost princess, Princess Rapunzel. You’ll be treated to lively entertainment and appearances from your favorite Tangled characters!

Tiana’s Place

Princess Tiana’s dream was always to open a restaurant, and her dream has finally come to life on board the Disney Wonder! Experience a celebration of southern cooking and live jazz music in this festive restaurant. Full of southern charm, you’ll enter this Louisiana-themed restaurant and be transported straight to the bayou and into the story of the Princess and the Frog!

Cabanas Restaurant on Disney Cruise Line

On board all 4 Disney Cruise Line ships, Cabanas is the main breakfast and lunch buffet restaurant! This is where most guests will choose to eat breakfast or lunch (or both) each day. It’s convenient and delicious, and buffets are just quick and easy! Plus, since it is located on the pool deck, you can easily pop in and grab your meal before taking it outside to eat on the deck or by the pool. Though many buffet items change every day, there are plenty of selections that are available every day! This boardwalk-themed restaurant has ten food stations serving an array of classic American fare. They have a top notch breakfast buffet with all the staples. We love that for lunch they always have pizza, chicken fingers, fries and macaroni & cheese available for the kids (and for guests like us, who just love ‘kids’ foods!). Additionally, they have a ton of other options like salmon, chicken, steak, seafood and vegetarian options. A salad bar, soups and dessert bar are all available too.

Dinner at Cabanas on a Disney Cruise

For dinner, if you miss your regular rotational dining seating or just prefer a quieter setting with an ocean view, you can also choose to dine in Cabanas. For dinner, Cabanas transforms into an a la carte dining experiences serving signature dishes from the main restaurants and other delicacies. If this is your first cruise we definitely don’t recommend skipping your scheduled dinner, as each of the main restaurants is exceptional. However, if you are a repeat cruiser or if you miss your main dinner for any reason, this is another great option for dining on a Disney cruise ship!

Counter Service Restaurants

Chicken Nuggets and Fries

Each ship has a selection of quick service options to enjoy as well. Order at a walk-up counter and you can immediately enjoy pizza, chicken tenders, burgers, fries and other favorites. They also have healthier options available like fruit and wraps! These counter service restaurants are a great option if you want to grab and go, eat by the pool or want a mid-day snack.

On the Dream and Fantasy, Flo’s Café combines Luigi’s Pizza, Tow Mater’s Grill and Fillmore’s Favorites with all the options located in a row. On the Magic and Wonder, the options are a bit more spread out throughout the Deck 9 pool area. Pinocchio’s Pizzeria serves up hot, fresh slices while Daisy’s De-Lites offers some great healthier options. The Duck-in Diner on the Magic and Pete’s Boiler Bites on the Wonder offer delicious American fare. The Duck-in Diner also serves Middle Eastern shawarma which is another delicious option!

Tip: When the Wonder sails to Alaska, you can also get an amazing soft pretzel from Pinocchio’s Pizzeria on sea days.

Specialty Restaurants

Romantic restaurant on a Disney Cruise

There are two specialty restaurants on board the Disney ships, which serve dinner and brunch. Palo is located on all four ships, while Remy is only available on the Dream and Fantasy. Both Palo and Remy are adult-exclusive, and offer an exceptional dining experience at an additional fee.

Palo and Remy

Palo is a delightfully chic Italian restaurant serving exquisite cuisine inspired by Northern Italy but with a twist.  Remy on the other hand is the most upscale dining experience on any of the Disney ships. This authentic French restaurant offers fine French fare in a first class, elegant dining experience. Of course, Remy is inspired by the Disney Pixar film Ratatouille.

Brunch and dinner at Palo are both $40 per person. For Remy, brunch is $75 while dinner is $125 (gratuities not included for either restaurant). As a bonus, if you are a Platinum Castaway Club member (have sailed 10+ times on DCL), you get a free meal at Palo.

Should you dine at Palo or Remy?

If this is your first cruise, don’t feel like you have to skip your wonderful main dining restaurant in order to pay extra for one of these specialty options. However, these restaurants are absolutely fabulous and definitely worth experiencing if you are celebrating a special occasion on board, or just want a special adults-night out!

Looking for other ways to enjoy some romantic, adult-only time on a Disney Cruise? Check out our post about experiencing romance on Disney Cruise Line!

Tip: If you have dinner at Palo, be sure to order a soufflé for dessert! The chocolate soufflé that Josh loves is famous among Disney cruisers, while Brittany prefers the Amaretto soufflé. Either way, you’re in for a treat!

Couple enjoys dinner at Palo, a romantic night on Disney Cruise Line

Room Service (24-hr Dining on Disney Cruise Line!)

Room service is included on Disney Cruise Line, which we absolutely love! There are some items on the menu (canned soda, pre-packaged snacks like M&Ms, etc.) that are an added cost, and gratuities are not included, however for the most part you can order to your heart’s content without any additional cost. Some people love to order room service for breakfast. If you have a verandah stateroom, this is a great option because you can eat outside on your private balcony! Personally, we love to order room service as a late night snack. Brittany love the All Hands on Deck cheese platter, and the Macaroni and Cheese. Josh loves the Chicken Tenders and the Pepperoni Pizza. They also have some great dessert options, including a cake selection that changes daily. Having 24/7 room service is a highlight of the dining experience on Disney Cruise Line for many guests!

Tip: You can order a Mickey Ice Cream Bar from Room Service, even though it’s not on the menu!

Other Dining Locations on a Disney Cruise

Although we’ve covered all the main options, this wouldn’t be a “complete” guide if we didn’t cover the rest of the food service locations on board the ships! From snack spots to theater concessions to where to grab a smoothie, we’ve outlined the rest of the food locations below:

Eye Scream Ice Cream

Unlimited free soft serve ice cream? Sign us up! It’s no wonder that Eye Scream is probably one of our most visited spots on the ship. On our last cruise, we had visited this spot for ice cream cones five times before the ship even sailed out of port! They always have chocolate and vanilla available (plus vanilla-chocolate swirl) however they also switch out additional flavors throughout the cruise. You can check back throughout the cruise for flavors like banana, strawberry and blueberry!

Ice Cream on a Disney Cruise

O’Gills, Crown and Fin Pub, Pub 687

Each ship has a pub that is located within the nightclub/lounge area (which are 18+ after 9:00 PM). These pubs offer a small selection of pub grub which is available for an additional cost.

Cove Café and Vista Café

The Cove Café offers a relaxing atmosphere for adults to enjoy a specialty beverage in an adults-only setting. On all four ships, Cove Café is adjacent to the Quiet Cove adult pool. On the Dream and Fantasy, Vista Café is another option with similar selections in a setting overlooking the lobby atrium. The coffees, teas and specialty beverages at these cafes are an additional cost. In both Cove Café and Vista Café, they have a small selection of snacks and desserts available. Though it may look like they cost too, they are actually complimentary, so definitely give one a try!

Vanellope’s Sweets and Treats/Sweet on You

On the Fantasy and the Dream, a specialty ice cream, gelato and dessert shop offers a delightful selection of tempting treats! All options are available at an additional cost.

Theater Concessions

The Walt Disney Theater (where you’ll see Broadway-style shows and variety acts) and the Buena Vista Theater (the on board movie theater) both have a concession stand where you can purchase popcorn and other snacks for an additional cost.

Senses Juice Bar

Enjoy a freshly made blended smoothie or beverage for an added cost on the Dream and Fantasy as you enjoy a beautiful ocean view. The Senses Juice Bar is located inside Senses, between the fitness center and the spa. It’s the perfect place to enjoy a nutritious juice or smoothie after a workout or treatment!

Frozone/Sulley’s Sips

This poolside spot (Sulley’s Sips on the Disney Wonder, and Frozone on the other three ships) offers refreshing frozen beverages and smoothies for an added cost.

Nightly Adult-Area Buffet

Lastly, on most cruises, there is a small nightly buffet of late-night snacks available for the adults. The food items change day-to-day, but they typically have fruit and hot items such as dumplings, pigs in a blanket, etc. The location of this complimentary buffet varies by ship, but is located in the adult-only areas  (District, Europa or After Hours).

Dining on a Disney Cruise: Conclusion

There are so many options for dining on a Disney cruise that it’s almost impossible to go hungry! Food is available at all times of the day and you can eat as much as you’d like. While there are some options that have an additional cost, for the most part everything is included! You can certainly make it through the cruise without paying extra for food.

Dining is one of favorite parts of a Disney Cruise! From the amazing food to the fabulous servers, and the unique and exciting restaurants, it’s sure to be a highlight for many guests. Wheezy’s Freezies (Disney Wish) – Inspired by everyone’s favorite penguin from Toy Story II , this poolside spot mixes up frozen-fruit smoothies.

Rotational Dining

One of the most unique dining aspects of a Disney Cruise is its rotational dining. Each night, your party rotates between three main restaurants on board, and your wait staff rotates with you. This allows you to try all that Disney has to offer while at the same time giving your waiters the opportunity to serve you better as they get to know you!

1923 (Disney Wish) – Step back in time and experience classic Hollywood glamour with a touch of Disney magic. This dining destination pays homage to the year when the legendary animation studio was founded in Southern California. With two stunning dining rooms named after the brothers who started it all – Walt and Roy, 1923 is a feast for the senses. Admire drawings, props, and other animation tools that depict the evolution of Disney animation from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to Frozen II.

Animator’s Palate (Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy) – This is definitely one of the most unique dining experiences onboard, and you can find it on four Disney cruise ships. Offering Pacific Island foods, Asian cooking, and fresh California fare, Disney animation comes to life throughout your meal.

Arendelle - A Frozen Dining Adventure | Magic in the Planning

Lumiere’s (Disney Magic) – This Main Dining restaurant found only on the Disney Magic serves American cuisine for breakfast and lunch and contemporary French fare for dinner.

Rapunzel’s Royal Table (Disney Magic) – This restaurant is only available on the Disney Magic and currently serves dinner on Disney’s rotational dining. It serves American favorites as well as flavors from around the world. And did I mention there is also live entertainment and character appearances?

Royal Court (Disney Fantasy) – This restaurant, serving French-inspired, continental fare, is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner on board the Disney Fantasy, and its decor is inspired by several different Disney fairy tales.

Dining on Disney Cruise Line | Magic in the Planning

Royal Palace (Disney Dream) – This restaurant is very similar to the Royal Court on the Disney Fantasy. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, it serves French-inspired, continental fare, and is inspired by Disney royalty.

Worlds of Marvel (Disney Wish) – This restaurant is truly unique and takes guests straight into “an action-packed Avengers mission that unfolds around you.” It serves a menu inspired by the MCU, including Wakanda.

How to Make the Most of Your Room Service Experience

Let’s dive into a quick list of the most useful tips that you can use to ensure that you maximize the top-notch Disney Dream room service offerings and make your stay much more excellent:

Knowing the Schedule and How to Order

You can access the Disney Dream room service on the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app. The breakfast menu is on a card that you will find in the desk drawer – if it isn’t there then just ask your Stateroom Host for one.

The lunch and dinner menu is available all day and night or up until 1:30 AM on debarkation morning.

For room service orders or questions, all you have to do is pick up the telephone in your cabin and press the ‘Room Service’ button.

When it comes to room service breakfast, fill out the order form on your stateroom desk and note the number of each item you’d like. Make sure to leave it outside your door before 3:00 AM.

Tipping Your Servers

A gratuity is not required for most room service orders but it is greatly appreciated. The amount is up to your discretion. A general rule of thumb is to start with $1 per plate and go up from there based on the items you ordered.

You can give a tip for Room Service as cash, or add it to your onboard account by filling in the slip that your server will give to you. There is no need to take cash on a Disney Cruise.

Customizing Your Orders

Before placing an order, remember to alert your server to any food allergy issues. There are many allergy-friendly items available both on and off the official menu.

To fully customize your food options to accommodate dietary needs, submit the Request Special Services form at least 60 days before your departure.

Final Impressions

There’s nothing more relaxing than enjoying an intimate in-room dinner with your loved ones or snacking on convenient treats in your cabin while on a magical Disney Cruise at sea.

Whether you are on a romantic getaway or a family vacation, understanding the room service menu and how it works can significantly enhance your overall Disney Dream cruise experience.

You can find the Disney Dream room service menu on the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app.

Yes. Apart from select beverages and snacks, the entire Disney Dream room service menu is free and covered by the cruise fare.

The ultimate guide to Disney Cruise Line ships and itineraries

MSN has partnered with The Points Guy for our coverage of credit card products. MSN and The Points Guy may receive a commission from card issuers.

After decades of success making families smile and laugh at its theme parks, Disney dipped its toes into the world of cruising in 1998. Disney didn’t just copy another cruise line’s model for success or slap its name on the side of an existing ship. It created its own brand of cruising.

Disney went so far into charting its own path as to get special approval from the U.S. Coast Guard for its ships’ lifeboats to be yellow instead of regulation orange, to tie into the colors of Mickey himself — black, red, white and yellow.

Now, Disney Cruise Line has five ships sailing in those signature colors, along with three more on order. In a normal year, those five ships take tens of thousands of families on sailings to the Caribbean , Mexico, Alaska, Europe, Bermuda, Bahamas, through the Panama Canal and even to Australia and New Zealand.

For more cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG’s cruise newsletter .

Having sailed four of Disney Cruise Line’s five ships, I can say the experience is indeed special — especially if you have kids. But Disney’s not a one-trick cruise line that’s only good for one age group. It offers kids clubs and activities to suit babies through teens and has several adults-only areas of the ship . Its newest ship, Disney Wish , provides more cool spaces for adults than any previous vessel.

Disney’s attention to detail transfers to its voyages on the sea. But unlike at the Disney theme parks, which can be a bit complicated to navigate, long lines and complex strategies are rarely a part of the Disney cruise experience.

Get the free planning help of a Disney vacation planner via TPG’s partner, Mouse Counselors .

What TPG loves about Disney Cruise Line

  • Broadway-caliber shows and first-run movies.
  • Disney-level service and attention to detail.
  • High-quality Disney character interactions and kids clubs.
  • Innovative, included rotational dining.

What we could do without

  • Disney cruises are expensive.
  • The onboard Wi-Fi is not the fastest, especially on ships that haven’t been upgraded. And it’s not cheap.

Disney Cruise Line fleet

While Disney may be a household name, Disney Cruise Line is actually a small line. It currently sails just five ships, compared to 27 at its family-friendly competitor Royal Caribbean .

Of the five, two are smaller ships, and three are larger.

The largest ships in Disney’s fleet are Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, at 1,115 feet long and 14 decks high, and Disney Wish , at 1,119 feet and 15 decks high.

These three ships each have a passenger capacity of 4,000 people spread out across approximately 1,250 cabins. The overwhelming majority of cabins on these ships have an ocean view or private verandah, with only 10%-12% being windowless inside cabins. (On its oldest four ships, these interior rooms have a “magical porthole” that displays a live feed from outside to replicate a window.)

Disney Treasure , expected to join the fleet in 2024, will be in the same larger Triton class of ships as Disney Wish.

Disney Wish is currently a workhorse of short three- and four-night sailings from Port Canaveral , Florida, to the Bahamas, home to Disney’s private island , Castaway Cay.

Disney Fantasy often sails weeklong cruises out of Florida. With the addition of Disney Wish to the fleet, Disney Dream now spends its summer across the Atlantic, offering European cruises from May to September, then spending much of the rest of the year based out of Fort Lauderdale.

The smaller two ships in the Disney Cruise Line fleet are Disney Wonder and the line’s first ship, Disney Magic .

These two ships are 984 feet long and 11 decks high, and each has the capacity for 2,713 passengers across 875 staterooms. On these two smaller ships, 70% of passenger cabins have ocean views or verandahs.

Disney Wonder is often on the move and currently splits its time among Alaska , the South Pacific, Hawaii, California, Mexico and beyond. Disney Magic spends part of its year based out of Galveston, Texas, or New Orleans and much of the rest based out of Fort Lauderdale and Miami.

Disney Wish has, by far, the highest number of annual sailings, with 105 three- and four-night cruises departing from Port Canaveral to the Bahamas. These sailings all go to Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay; some also stop in Nassau, Bahamas.

Some Disney cruises do what’s called a “double dip” and make two stops at the private island, where you can step ashore without leaving the Disney bubble.

Pro tip: If you go to Castaway Cay, rent a bike for a little exercise and a self-guided tour of the island. Or, you can run the at-your-pace 5K that morning around the island.

Coming in summer 2024 , Disney will have a second exclusive beach destination in the Bahamas — Lighthouse Point.

This won’t be an entire private island like Castaway Cay, but it will be an exclusive beachfront space designed for Disney Cruise Line with many similar offerings to Castaway. Disney Magic, Disney Wonder and Disney Fantasy will call on this new destination for the first time in 2024.

Who sails Disney Cruise Line?

Let’s start with the obvious: Families love Disney Cruise Line.

The ultimate sweet spot for taking a Disney cruise starts when a child is at least 3 years old and potty trained (the criteria that get them into the included kids clubs) and lasts until they outgrow their love of Disney characters. Remember, Disney now includes the “Star Wars” and Marvel brands and offers themed cruises featuring those characters, too.

A Disney cruise costs more than a similar cruise on a line like Royal Caribbean , so it’s easiest to justify the expense when your kids love Disney the most.

So, yes, the stereotype that Disney Cruise Line is full of families is 100% correct.

You’ll see many families with kids in those preschool, elementary and middle school years. But you’ll also see families with little babies (the minimum age is 6 months on most sailings, 1 year on Panama Canal and transatlantic sailings), tweens, teens, college-age kids and even grandparents who have made a Disney cruise an enjoyable multigenerational travel tradition.

Related: Comparing Disney, Carnival and Royal Caribbean cruises for families

You’ll also see cruisers who love Disney regardless of age and are proud to wear their Mickey ears while hearing the first seven notes of the “When You Wish Upon a Star” melody blown from the ship’s massive horn.

Just like you don’t need kids to have a great time at Disney World or Disneyland, you can happily cruise as adults without offspring on Disney Cruise Line. All the ships have active adults-only sun decks, pool and lounges. Disney Wish especially invested in its adult offerings with an infinity pool, along with more bars spread around the ship instead of being clustered into one main area.

Disney Cruise Line cabins and suites

At a basic level, Disney Cruise Line offers five main types of cabins across the fleet. In its simplified version, the types of cabins on a Disney cruise include:

  • Windowless inside cabins
  • Ocean-view cabins
  • Verandah cabins (with private balconies)
  • Verandah cabins with concierge service
  • Suites with concierge service

These cabins start at 169 square feet for a standard inside cabin and go up to a two-story, 1,966-square-foot Tower Suite on Disney Wish .

Unless you are OK with the smallest space on the ship or have a budget for the largest, the sweet spot for price and comfort on Disney Cruise Line vessels is probably the cabins that are around 204 square feet and usually come with a queen bed, single sleeper sofa and upper-berth pull-down bed and a split bath.

This split bathroom situation places a sink and the shower/tub combo in one bathroom and the toilet and another sink in the other. Each has its own separate door, so someone could use the toilet/sink room while another takes a shower, all in private and at the same time.

You’ll find this cabin layout within the Deluxe Inside Staterooms, Deluxe Oceanview Staterooms and Deluxe Oceanview Staterooms with Verandah categories.

The Deluxe Family Oceanview Staterooms and Deluxe Family Oceanview Staterooms with Verandah add about 40 more square feet to the equation. If you want the largest within those room categories, search for rooms that can hold five people on the Disney Cruise Line website.

Pro tip: You can ask your cabin host for cartoon bedding for the kid’s bed if you think your child will be excited to come back from dinner to one of their Disney favorites.

You can connect many of the cabins on the ship , which is often a much more economical solution for a family looking for more sleeping space (and bathrooms) than upgrading to a multibedroom suite. Roughly speaking, a family of four will pay about 50% more for two cabins than they will for everyone to stay in one cabin of the same size.

If you are going all-out on a particular trip, or are simply working with a larger budget, Disney concierge suites are special.

The smallest available room with this service is the Concierge Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah, which isn’t all that different from the Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah, other than the included concierge service. From there, you can go up to the one- or two-bedroom suites.

Be prepared for sticker shock, though, as these suites will almost certainly be near or over five figures on many sailings.

While pricey, Disney concierge service eliminates almost all of the potential pain points of a Disney cruise (not that there are many pain points to begin with).

Disney concierge service gets you access to the Disney Concierge Lounge, which has food offerings multiple times per day and a fully stocked fridge with sodas, juices and bottles of water.

In the evenings, you’ll find included beer, wine and spirits in the lounge — which you can also take with you as you head out to dinner or to enjoy the view from the deck.

The Concierge Lounge also has its own private deck, and Disney characters have been known to make a private appearance there during the cruise. (Don’t worry, you’ll get a heads-up.)

Related: Is Disney Cruise Line concierge service worth it?

You also have your own check-in area at the port and are among the first to board the ship, which can mean extra time to enjoy having the waterslides to yourself. At the end of the cruise, you can have a private elevator that takes you down to be some of the first off the ship — which should protect you from a long line to say goodbye.

There are other perks of the concierge level, too, such as early front-row seating at shows, included popcorn and the ability to submit your request for meal reservations at Palo or Remy, cabanas on Castaway Cay, spa treatments, character meet-and-greets or whatever else you wish before other guests. These can be made for you starting 120 days before your sailing, which is before all other guests except those with the highest elite status tier in the Castaway Club .

Passengers on their first Disney cruise don’t get to make those reservations until 75 days out if they aren’t in the concierge level. The reality is the hottest items are often booked up by then, especially on shorter cruises when there’s less time to do everything.

Those in the concierge level in one-bedroom suites and higher can also order room service from the restaurants to their cabin, which means you can have a hot breakfast on your verandah if you wish instead of the regular continental options available to most guests.

If you are on the fence about concierge service, it’s arguably most valuable when you are on a shorter cruise, have some specific popular must-have items on your reservation wish list or want someone else to take care of everything. You can also inquire about discounted upgrades at the port, assuming rooms are left unsold on your voyage.

Pro tip: Regardless of your cabin, bring magnetic Mickey or nautical-themed decor for the entrance, as most of the cabin doors are magnetic. Decorating is a fun tradition on a Disney cruise.

Disney Cruise Line restaurants and dining options

You will not go hungry on a Disney cruise. From room service to evening dinners, meals are (mostly) all included.

Rotational dining

On each Disney ship, three main dining rooms serve as dinner restaurants that participate in rotational dining. Each ship has its own lineup of themed rotational restaurants, but the concept remains the same on each.

Each night, your tablemates and servers will move from one restaurant to the next as a team. This way, the servers get to know that you always want to start with a glass of red wine, or your kids’ food needs to come ASAP so you can take them to the kids club as soon as they finish, or (in my case) your daughter wants a side of barbecue sauce with … everything.

You must choose between an early and a late dinner time, with your showtime opposite your dining time. Some restaurants, such as Animator’s Palate, are found on multiple ships, while others are unique to one ship, such as Tiana’s Place on Disney Wonder and all of the rotational restaurants found on Disney Wish .

Included restaurants on Disney Magic

  • Animator’s Palate
  • Rapunzel’s Royal Table

Included restaurants on Disney Wonder

  • Tiana’s Place

Included restaurants on Disney Dream

  • Enchanted Garden
  • Royal Palace

Included restaurants on Disney Fantasy

  • Royal Court

Included restaurants on Disney Wish

  • Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure
  • Worlds of Marvel

At these restaurants, you can order whatever you want on the menu at no extra charge, with a few exceptions (for example, alcohol and specialty drinks cost extra).

While many guests dress up a bit for dinner (compared to their afternoon pool deck attire), most stay relatively casual for the rotational dining restaurants. Disney does not impose a specific dress-up requirement.

Disney cruise ships offer many other dining options beyond the three included themed restaurants — most included, some not.

Room service

Room service is mostly free (other than sodas or alcohol), though the menu is limited if you aren’t staying in a concierge-level cabin. Still, it’s free room service, so I’m not one to complain.

Pro tip: Fill the breakfast card out the night before and hang it on your stateroom to get breakfast exactly when you want it the next morning.

And you haven’t lived until your kids learn how to call and order free Mickey ice cream bars to the cabin … every night (just be sure and add a tip).

Buffet and grab-and-go

Your Disney cruise will also include a buffet known as Cabanas on the original four ships and Marceline Market on Disney Wish. The buffet is usually open for breakfast and lunch, though not in the evening hours.

In addition to the buffet, a few grab-and-go quick-service restaurants on the pool deck serve salads, chili, pizza, barbecue and more, depending on which ship you’re sailing.

Don’t miss these options, as some are quite good. They are typically open from late morning until later into the evening.

Room service, the buffet and the on-deck food counter dining options don’t cost extra and are available to you in addition to or instead of your rotational dining.

You’ll also find included ice cream on one of the upper decks. A pro-level hack is to get Mickey churro waffles from the buffet in the morning (only available some mornings) and add vanilla ice cream for a vacation-worthy breakfast.

Extra-cost, adults-only restaurants

At the top of the “costs extra” list are the restaurants Palo (found on all five ships, though it’s Palo Steakhouse on Disney Wish), Remy (on Dream and Fantasy) and Enchante (only on Disney Wish).

Remy is a fancy adults-only French restaurant that costs $125 per person for dinner (more if you order drinks). This is the type of place where men need jackets and women are expected to wear dresses, pantsuits or a skirt and blouse. Enchante on Disney Wish is similar — you’re dressing up for these meals.

Palo is also fancy, though a notch less fancy than Remy. You’ll see jackets and dresses in Palo, but you can also get by with nice jeans if you want. This adults-only restaurant serves Northern Italian fare and starts at about $45 per person for a multicourse brunch or dinner, though you can also order a la carte for dinner, which could cost more or less, depending on your order.

I can say with 100% certainty that if you enjoy a nice meal, this is worth the extra $45 once during your cruise . From the breadbasket to the dessert, it’s all amazing. You’ll gain 5 pounds, but you won’t regret a bite.

These reservations are hard to get, especially for brunch, so you’ll want to make them the second you are eligible and keep checking back for cancellations if you miss out the first time.

Coffee shops and snack shops

On a Disney cruise, the snacks and pastries you’ll see in the coffee shop or kiosk are all included, but the specialty coffee will cost extra. Drink prices are roughly similar to Starbucks, if not a notch lower. Be sure and ask for the Cafe Fanatic card if you’re a regular, as your sixth drink will be free.

In addition to the included soft-serve ice cream and Mickey bars available via room service, your ship may have some shops with extra-fee ice cream. This can confuse kids, so I want to warn you beforehand. On Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy and Disney Wish, you’ll find an ice cream shop stuffed with candies, gelato and ice cream — all for an extra charge.

Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy also have a juice bar that costs extra.

The exact bars will vary by vessel, but you can expect spots like a wine and Champagne bar, a pub, a laid-back lounge and a bar with live entertainment.

These bars are a lot of fun and are not to be missed if you like live music or a nice drink at the end of the day. Keep an eye out in your app for when and where the happy hours are on board if you want to save a few dollars on your drinks. Some bars also offer a sommelier bin where you get a nice glass of wine at a discounted price — as long as you put the bartender in charge of choosing your drink.

Some of the drink-tasting classes that you book in advance can be a good value if you’re a fan of the drink on offer and are interested in learning a little bit while you sip. You’ll want to book these before sailing, as many do sell out.

Food on Castaway Cay

If your cruise takes you to Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, you’re in luck, as there’s plenty of included food to eat there, too.

Just like on board, some of the food on Castaway is included, while alcohol and specialty drinks are not. The Cookie’s and Cookie’s Too lunch shacks on the island are both included, so load up on hot dogs, barbecue, hamburgers, fries and all the fixings. Vegetarian options are available.

While the food options here are somewhat basic, they still make for a fun and free meal.

Entertainment and activities on a Disney cruise

A valid reason to want to sail with Disney is the onboard fun that awaits — especially for those who love Disney characters and stories.

Theaters and shows

Each Disney cruise ship features two theaters. In the massive Walt Disney Theatre, you’ll enjoy Broadway-caliber evening shows such as “Beauty and the Beast,” “Frozen,” “Tangled,” “Disney Dreams,” “The Golden Mickeys” and more. If you want a good seat, arrive about 30 minutes early since seating is first come, first served.

The Buena Vista Theatre screens first-run Disney films. These will be the same films still showing in theaters on land. If you happen to be at sea when a new Disney movie premieres on land, you’ll also get that same first look at sea.

Pirate Night is a staple on many Disney cruises in the Caribbean. On that themed night, expect everyone to be dressed in their pirate-y best for the evening, so pack accordingly. Your dinner will also have a pirate theme, followed by a fun show up on deck, complete with fireworks.

Pro tip: If you plan to stay up late for Pirate Night, try to work in a nap that afternoon so you don’t miss out on the nighttime fun.

Game shows, karaoke, bingo and more

The extensive lineup of interactive game shows, trivia, karaoke, dance parties, bingo and more listed in the Disney cruise app are worth checking out. Some of these are adults-only, while others are fun for the whole family. Most are included in the price of the cruise, though bingo does cost extra — and you could win real money.

Other interior attractions and activities

Meeting Disney characters is a fun part of a Disney cruise.

You can make reservations to meet the popular princesses, but most characters are easy to walk up to and meet via a short line. Or, even better, you often see them roaming about the ship at unexpected times.

You can work off some of those treats and drinks at the onboard fitness center on each ship.

The Senses Spa & Salon is a full-service spa with everything from massages to pedicures and hair care. Promotions are available if you book more than one treatment. If you have a Disney Visa card , you can also save 20% on select onboard services.

Pro tip: The showers in this part of the ship are full-size, in case you are getting a bit claustrophobic in the shower in your cabin.

If you like getting away to relax, look at purchasing access to the Rainforest Room for heated stone loungers, aromatherapy showers and even hot tubs on the larger ships. You can buy a one-day or full-cruise pass to this area of the spa, but get a tour first as the layout and inclusions in this space vary dramatically from ship to ship.

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique

Little cruisers can be transformed into a princess or pirate at sea at the onboard Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, which does themed kid makeovers and sells costumes as part of the package. You’ll need an appointment; expect to pay $100 to $200 for most packages.

This is a fun thing to do before meeting a princess, before a more formal night or anytime you want to see a huge smile on your kid’s face. If you have a princess dress or outfit from home you want to use or reuse, you can purchase a cheaper package at Bibbidi Bobbidi.

Decktop attractions

Waterslides.

All of Disney Cruise Line’s ships have some kind of waterslide on board.

The AquaDuck waterslide on Dream and Fantasy takes riders in single or double tubes 765 feet from Deck 12 up and down, through the forward funnel and on a four-deck drop. It’s pretty epic. AquaMouse on Disney Wish is also an inner tube-based ride and is not to be missed.

These lines can get long, so I recommend riding first thing when you board if the port is warm enough. Nighttime rides usually have short waits, too.

Disney Magic has the most thrilling waterslide in the fleet, called AquaDunk, and Disney Wonder has its own waterslide in the AquaLab splash area.

Each Disney ship has multiple pools, though if you’ve never been on a cruise, you may be initially shocked at how small they are — and how busy they can get.

As with the waterslides, we recommend enjoying these first thing when you board if you want to try them without crowds. Otherwise, you won’t find so many people in the pools on port days, early in the morning and right before dinner. There are thousands of people on the ship and only a few small pools, so plan accordingly.

Each ship has a pool and hot tub area for adults 18 and up. It can also get busy, but typically less busy than the family area. Select ships also offer an in-pool bar area for adults.

The adult sun deck is a nice place to grab a chair and relax, even if you have no intention of getting in the water.

Splash pads

Your little one has to be potty trained to use the onboard pools. The option for those still in swim diapers is some splash areas, such as Nemo’s Reef and Dory’s Reef.

Sports deck

If you want to be more active, head to your ship’s sports deck to play basketball, foosball, miniature golf and more. You may even have some sports simulator options beyond your traditional in-person fun.

Children’s programs

As a parent, my favorite part of a Disney cruise might be the included kids programs that children actually want to attend. If the kids are happy for a few hours, the parents can actually relax, too.

Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab for children ages 3–12

All five Disney ships have amazing spaces for kids in the 3-to-12-year-old range in the Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab.

Here you’ll find video games, an indoor slide, fun programs and games with the staff, arts and crafts, surprise character visits and more. Your kids need to be potty trained to stay in this club, so use that as motivation for a kid approaching 3 years old before your next cruise.

Your kids don’t need an appointment to pop in here; they can come anytime from open to close — and the club stays open pretty late.

Parents can stay with kids and play during open hours on the first day and select times on other dates, but most of the time, the Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab are kids-only. Your kids will check in and out by scanning a special MagicBand that also tracks where they are within the kids clubs.

Disney Wish has the added perk in the kids club of a slide that takes the kids straight from the main atrium and into the fun.

Know that once your child turns 8, you have the option of giving them self-checkout privileges. While kids up to 12 are welcome in the main Oceaneer Club, they may start moving up to the tween club by the time they are 10 years old.

Edge tween club for children ages 11–14

When your kid outgrows the fun in the main kids club, don’t worry. Edge is waiting just upstairs.

Technically, Edge is for kids ages 11-14, but you can get your 10-year-old in with permission — and once they figure that out, it’s probably all over for the “little kid club.”

Edge is a much smaller space, but tweens have tons of fun playing video games, having dance parties, doing crafts, playing trivia games and more with their newfound cruise friends.

This club does not utilize parent sign-in and -out, so you need to trust your kid if they are coming to Edge. If your 10-to-12-year-old child visits Edge, they can also play at the Oceaneer Lab and Oceaneer Club, so they have options.

Vibe teen club for children ages 14–17

Get ready to be jealous of this one. On Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, the teen club has its own set of small pools at the front of the ship.

Inside all versions of the teen club, Vibe, you’ll find a tech-friendly world with loungers, dance parties, smoothies and other teen-approved fun. Some of the coolest inside space on Disney cruise ships is dedicated to teens ages 14-17, but you can request for your child to attend this club starting at 13 years old.

‘It’s a small world’ nursery for children 6 months to 3 years old

While the three previously mentioned kids clubs are free and do not require reservations, the nursery operates differently. You will need to make reservations, and the fee is $4.50 per half-hour for the first child and $4 per half-hour for each additional child.

What to know before you go

Required documents.

The specific documents you will need will vary by cruise destination. Having a passport is always a good idea, but it’s not technically required on all Disney cruises. For example, round-trip cruises originating in Port Canaveral, Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Galveston, San Diego, New Orleans, New York and San Juan, Puerto Rico, often do not require a passport.

Passports, when required, must be valid for at least six months. For cruises from international ports, you’ll need a passport. Note that it is important that the name on your reservation be exactly as it is stated on your passport or other official proof of nationality.

Disney Cruise Line adds a service gratuity of $14.50 per person per day to final bills. If you are unhappy with the service you receive, you can lower this amount. Of course, you can visit guest services and adjust it upward, too.

To give an idea of the cost, a four-person family on a four-night cruise would pay $232 in recommended tips. The amount is split among your team of dining room servers who quickly learned your kids’ preferences for dinner and your cabin hosts who made your room look like magic while you were out enjoying yourself.

An 18% gratuity is added to onboard spa, bar, beverage, wine and deck service tabs. You can always add an additional gratuity for any of your services or servers.

While room service is free, it’s customary to add a few dollars of tip when you sign the “bill.”

While some gratuity is included at Palo and Remy, you’ll likely want to add an additional tip if you enjoyed the service. If you stay in a concierge-level room or suite, it is customary to tip the Concierge Lounge hosts at the end of your cruise a recommended amount of $8 per night per guest.

Disney Cruise Line’s Wi-Fi, Connect@Sea, is in the process of being upgraded, so speed, bandwidth and cost vary by ship.

If you are on a ship that charges by day instead of by the amount of data used, expect the prices to vary from $12-$36 per day, depending on the speed you select. There are often discounts for buying Wi-Fi access for the length of the cruise.

If you are on a ship that still charges by the amount of data used, we recommend not doing that and connecting either when you are in port or via a plan from your cellphone provider.

Carry-on drinks policy

Guests 21 years and older may bring a maximum of two bottles of unopened wine or Champagne (no larger than 750 milliliters) or six beers (no larger than 12 ounces) on board at the beginning of the voyage and at each port of call. These beverages must be packed in carry-on (not checked) bags or luggage. You can keep drinks chilled in the small fridge in your cabin.

Guests wishing to consume wine or Champagne that they have brought on board in one of the dining rooms will be charged a corkage fee of $26 per bottle.

Smoking policy

Smoking is permitted only in designated deck areas. It’s forbidden in cabins and on cabin balconies, and those who violate this rule will face a $250 cleaning fee.

For an additional fee, Disney ships offer full-service laundry and dry cleaning services that will pick up and deliver clean clothes to your cabin.

Ships also provide 24-hour, self-service guest laundry facilities equipped with washers and dryers, along with detergent and complimentary ironing equipment. You pay for the facilities by using your Key to the World card. These services can get busy during sea days on longer cruises, so plan accordingly.

Electrical outlets

All cabins are equipped with multiple 110-volt outlets, which are standard in the U.S. and Canada. Cabins on Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy are equipped with a combination of 110- and 220-volt (European) outlets.

Small electrical appliances such as electric shavers, curling irons and flat irons with standard North American plugs will function on board; 110-volt items should not exceed 1,500 watts, and 220-volt items should not exceed 2,000 watts. A hair dryer is provided in every cabin for your convenience, but you may bring your own as long as it meets the guidelines above.

The currency on Disney Cruise Line ships, regardless of location, is the U.S. dollar.

When you are on the ship, you will not need cash or a credit card — all incidentals, purchases and services will be charged to your cabin folio. Your Key to the World card (or your DisneyBand+ on Disney Wish ) serves as your onboard payment method. The only exception is if you want to tip a crew member in cash.

In port, you may wish to carry cash or a credit card to buy snacks and souvenirs or to tip your tour guide.

Drinking age

For most Disney sailings, the drinking age on board is 21.

However, on round-trip cruises departing European countries with a lower drinking age, passengers 18-20 years of age can drink alcohol on board with signed parental consent. For round-trip cruises from Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland and Brisbane, guests 18 years of age and older may purchase and consume alcoholic beverages without parental consent.

During the day, people dress casually. If it’s a sea day in a warm-weather destination, and you’re bound for the top deck, that means looking like you’re going to the beach. T-shirts, shorts and bathing suits (with a cover-up to go inside) are fine.

During the evenings, dining attire in the three main dining restaurants is “cruise casual,” meaning no swimwear or tank tops, but you don’t have to put on a party dress. That said, many guests do dress up a bit in the evening, but it’s not required unless you are dining in Palo, Remy or Enchante.

Cruises that are seven nights or longer schedule one “formal night” — though even then, it’s only encouraged, not required. On that night, you will see suits, sports coats, cocktail dresses and similar from some guests.

Pro tip: Be sure and pack that pirate gear for Pirate Night.

Disney Cruise Line loyalty program

Disney Cruise Line has a simple loyalty program, the Castaway Club , with four “elite status” levels that you earn based on how many cruises you’ve taken with Disney. A three-night and 10-night cruise both count as one sailing for these purposes.

  • Silver: One completed cruise
  • Gold: Five completed cruises
  • Platinum: 10 completed cruises
  • Pearl: 25 completed cruises

This isn’t the kind of loyalty program where you earn free cruises the way you earn free flights with airline miles. Instead, as you go up in status, you earn perks and earlier access to booking cruises and activities — which is key for getting those hard-to-snag adult dining or Castaway Cay cabana reservations

  • Unlimited Digital Photo Package.
  • Select port arrival time with online check-in starting 40 days before the general public.

How much does a Disney cruise cost?

Magic ain’t cheap, and Disney cruises are expensive. They aren’t the priciest voyages out there, but they will cost more than cruises with family-friendly competitors such as Royal Caribbean by a noticeable margin.

For a family of four, the cheapest Disney cruise currently available (not counting the two-night cruises in Australia and New Zealand) is about $2,500. An ocean view will add about $90 and a verandah will add about $500.

On these shortest cruises, concierge-level cabins and access start at a little over $5,000 for a family of four.

Those sorts of prices will only be available during the offseason, such as in mid-to-late January and early February or for repositioning cruises as the ship moves from, say, Puerto Rico to Florida. That same cruise during spring break can cost double or more, so the more date flexibility you have, the better.

A seven-night cruise in the Caribbean will likely start around $5,000 for a family of four. Expect Alaska and Europe cruises to start at $5,000 to $6,000 for inside cabins for a week, and prices go up for longer sailings and upgraded cabins.

You can save money on your next Disney cruise by putting a $250 deposit down while you are at sea on a previous Disney cruise. It’s a popular way to get 10% off your next cruise.

Another way to save on a Disney cruise is to look at a one-way repositioning sailing , as those often price lower than other similar cruises. For example, the cruise line may need to end a cruise in a particular port to reposition the ship to do some sailings from there. You’ll have to get yourself back home from that port, but you may save on the cruise in the process.

How to book

You can book your Disney cruise directly with Disney Cruise Line either over the phone or online, but I’d argue you shouldn’t.

Cruises are easy to enjoy but can be complicated to plan if you are new to this type of travel. This is an industry where a travel agent is still a good call. You want someone who can help you pick the right cabin type and location for your group and keep track of when you can snag those onboard activities you really want.

When the wave of pandemic-related cruise cancellations hit in 2020, I was so grateful to have a travel agent — instead of me — spending time dealing with the cruise line.

Related:  How to book a cruise with points and miles

Another reason to consider going through a travel agent is to get onboard credit. Some travel agents will offer onboard credit based on the amount you spend on your Disney cruise. This is credit you can use toward drinks, spa treatments, excursions or anything else you can charge to your room.

Whether you use a travel agent or not, make sure to maximize your credit card points  when paying for the cruise by using a credit card that offers extra points for travel purchases and maybe even offers some built-in travel protections .

  • The Chase Sapphire Reserve offers 3 points per dollar on travel and dining and an annual up-to-$300 travel credit.
  • The Chase Sapphire Preferred Card earns 2 points per dollar on travel.
  • The Disney Premier Visa Card is also a good option, specifically with Disney Cruise Line, as it gives you access to a 0% introductory annual percentage rate for six months following the purchase date on eligible Disney vacation packages, such as a Disney cruise (then a variable APR of 18.99% to 27.99% applies). The card also gets you 10% in savings on some onboard activities and packages while at Castaway Cay.

Bottom line

Whether you are on a three-night trip to Castaway Cay or a bigger crossing to the South Pacific, a Disney cruise is a special vacation that actually feels like a vacation.

The classic styling of the original four ships, the modern storybook styling of Disney Wish, the vast number of inclusions, the rotational dining, waterslides, private island, fun kids clubs, Disney characters, high-caliber entertainment and Disney service shine through.

You’ll certainly pay more for the privilege of sailing with Mickey and Minnie than with some other family-friendly lines. But for those with kids in that Disney age range, or for adults who know and trust the Disney brand, it’s hard to go wrong in choosing Disney Cruise Line for your next vacation.

And when you do spend on dining, you should use a credit card that will maximize your rewards and potentially even score special discounts. Thanks to temporary card bonuses and changes due to coronavirus, you may even be able to score a meal at your favorite restaurant for free.

These are the best credit cards for dining out, taking out, and ordering in to maximize every meal purchase.

The Treasure is the latest ship Disney is introducing to its cruise line fleet, and there are going to be some exciting things on board!

disney cruise line room service breakfast

The ship doesn’t have its first cruise until December, but we’ve already learned so much about what will be on board (like a Haunted Mansion-themed lounge 😲). It’s never too early to start planning in our opinion, so let’s look at some Loungefly bags that would be perfect to take on the ship with you!

You’ve never had a friend like this  Aladdin Loungefly Backpack !  Say hello to the entire crew from Disney’s  Aladdin  movie.

disney cruise line room service breakfast

The Grand Hall on the Disney Treasure takes inspiration from the world of  Aladdin  with dark blue, gold, and turquoise. So it’s only fitting that you bring a Loungefly like this on board!

Shop on Amazon

Since the main area of the ship is inspired by  Aladdin,  we couldn’t have just one bag based on the movie! We also spotted this Aladdin and Jasmine Palace Loungefly Backpack .

disney cruise line room service breakfast

This is a Funko Pop! backpack with Jasmine and her pet tiger Rajah in Funko form on the back. The front features that iconic castle from Agrabah. Only 3,000 of these bags exist, so grab it while you can!

If you’re a sucker for details like we are, check out this  Peter Pan London Loungefly Backpack !

disney cruise line room service breakfast

Peter Pan is also a huge part of the Disney Treasure — you’ll find him and Captain Hook out on the stern of the boat. We can’t wait to see!

One of the main restaurants on the Treasure is themed to  Coco,  so of course we had to include this  Miguel and Hector Performance Loungefly Backpack .

disney cruise line room service breakfast

The backpack will parallel what’s going on in front of you because, at the Plaza de Coco restaurant, characters from the movie will be singing and dancing around the place!

The most highly-anticipated part of the Treasure just might be the new Haunted Mansion Parlor. What better accessory to bring than the  Haunted Mansion Clock Crossbody Loungefly Bag ?!

disney cruise line room service breakfast

There will be tons of hidden details to look for in the lounge area and based on the concept art, we have a feeling it will be a fan-favorite!

If Constance is your favorite Haunted Mansion character, we found the bag for you to bring! It’s the  Haunted Mansion Portrait Loungefly Backpack .

disney cruise line room service breakfast

The bag is covered in the iconic wallpaper print with a purple trim and straps. On the front pocket, you’ll find a take on the portraits with Constance and her ex-husband(s). Anyone else up at night with the “Hurry Back” quote haunting their dreams? Just us?

Get your dad jokes ready! The Disney Treasure will also have a Jungle Cruise-themed bar called Skipper Society. Before your trip, you can grab the  Mickey Adventureland Loungefly Backpack !

disney cruise line room service breakfast

While Mickey doesn’t look exactly like a Jungle Cruise skipper, he does represent Adventureland well, the place where the classic ride is located at Disney World and Disneyland.

One of the best parts of Disney is its top-tier live entertainment! The Treasure will produce an all-new Moana  stage show which is why you need this  Moana Cosplay Loungefly Backpack !

disney cruise line room service breakfast

“Disney The Tale of Moana” is a Broadway-style musical, marking the first time Moana has been brought to the stage. We love all of the little details on this bag, especially the necklace!

Speaking of details, check out this  Mulan Cosplay Loungefly Backpack !  It’s wild how realistic it looks!

disney cruise line room service breakfast

There will be a couple of cafes on the ship, one named Jade Cricket Cafe which is inspired by Mulan . Sip on some specialty drinks or snack on some eats — there will be plenty of room for leftovers in this Loungefly!

Beauty and the Beast  is one of the most famous Disney movies of all time so it’s no surprise it would be incorporated on the Treasure one way or another! Because of that, we introduce you to the  Beauty and the Beast Stained Glass Loungefly Backpack .

disney cruise line room service breakfast

Disney is bringing back the beloved “Beauty and the Beast” stage show on the Treasure. Get ready to see your favorite songs brought to life on stage!

Disney Cruise Line is known for many things, but one thing that comes to mind for most is Pirate Night! Now imagine attending Pirate Night with this  Pirate Mickey Loungefly Backpack !

disney cruise line room service breakfast

Mickey is looking as adventurous as ever with a classic pirate hat, bandana, and eye patch. Also, do you see the front pocket zipper? It’s like a skull and crossbones with a Mickey head! It’s the little things, people.

Be prepared — The Lion King  is also going to be part of the Disney Treasure! (We hope you’re singing that song in your head now). Get ahead of the game and order this Lion King Friends Loungefly Backpack   on Amazon now.

disney cruise line room service breakfast

Sarabi will be an all-new two-story entertainment space on the ship with daytime activities and adults-only entertainment. It will be themed around the fierce lioness it’s named after and it will be quite a sight when the ship starts sailing!

We’ll keep you updated on any new developments with the Disney Treasure, so stay tuned to AllEars and you’ll be the first to know!

Subscriber only, travel | new cruise ship disney treasure gets 1st taste of water.

The Disney Treasure cruise ship was floated out at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany in March 2024 ahead of its December debut out of Port Canaveral. (Courtesy/Disney Cruise Line)

Disney Cruise Line’s new ship can float.

The Disney Treasure entered the next phase of construction as work continues at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Papenburg, Germany, with the float out of the 144,000-gross-ton, 4,000-passenger vessel.

The sister ship to Disney Wish that debuted in 2022 will also be coming to Port Canaveral this December, set to take on seven-night Caribbean itineraries.

The ship’s first taste of water came last month, according to an update on the Disney Parks Blog .

disney cruise line room service breakfast

“Water from the Ems River was pumped into the building dock where the ship is being constructed, lifting the hull from the floor of the chamber,” the post reads. “The shipyard team was then able to guide the Disney Treasure to a new location, where it will undergo the next phase of construction.”

The ship had its keel laid in March 2023 and is expected to be complete after 20 months of construction. The vessel still has a lot of interior and top-deck work to be completed before it makes its way along the Ems River for sea trials after which it will be handed over to DCL.

Haunted Mansion bar is coming to Disney’s new cruise ship

Among spaces coming to the ship are bars inspired by the Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea theme park attractions and an Aladdin-themed Grand Hall atrium. Its top deck will once again feature the AquaMouse water coaster-dark ride combo. One new dining venue on board will be themed to the Pixar movie “Coco.”

Construction recently began on a third sister ship in what was originally referred to as the Trident class that will be named Disney Destiny.

“The Disney Treasure and the Disney Destiny will soon be next to each other in the shipyard, marking an unprecedented era of growth for Disney Cruise Line,” the post reads.

The three ships along with the purchase of the unfinished Global Dream cruise ship that DCL acquired in 2023 and was renamed Disney Adventure will grow the DCL fleet to eight vessels by the end of 2025.

Disney Adventure is headed for the Asia market, and Disney Destiny’s first home port has yet to be announced.

Disney’s first two ships, Disney Magic and Wonder, debuted in 1998 and 1999, followed by sister ships Disney Dream and Fantasy in 2011 and 2012.

The doubling of the fleet from four to eight vessels in three years coincides with the debut of a new private Bahamas destination set to open this summer called Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point on the tip of the island of Eleuthera.

The line has also expanded its year-round presence in Florida with not only its main home port out of Port Canaveral, but a new second Florida home base out of Port Everglades that opened last fall.

  27. APELSIN HOTEL

Strandard Hotel for an industrial city like Electrostal. For one night is ok. The room is ok. What I did not like was the receptionist not very friendly and the breakfast which was very poor. I am used to travel in Russia in minor cities and villages so I do not pretend a continental breakafst like a 5 star hotel but a minimum accpetable yes.
