I recently worked as a DJ at a surprise 50th party at Cruise bar and was blown away by their professional and friendly attitude towards me as an outside DJ. They looked after me very well and were extremely helpful whilst I was setting up. I would love to come back and serve their clients and guests another time. Thank you

We thought this would be a good place to grab a drink with some views. Ehhhhhhhh..... Views aren't great honestly as the whole patio is screened with fences and plants. You'll order inside and they'll bring items out for you. The Mister had an Oktoberfest special - a pint and pretzels for $10, and I had a really lovely Taz sparking for $12. We also opted for a charcuterie plate ($25) that was straight up bad. The pickled veg was nice but all of the meat was processed sandwich quality and IMO some of it was not fresh at all and possibly turning. If you want a drink on the water, head to the other side of the Quay and look for some of the cheap HH ($5!!) deals.

Yikes. There are endless nice places for a bite or drink. This place is aggressively bad. From the music (which cuts in and out), to the endless product placement, to the insufferable seats. Who has gorgeous views and blocks it with gross, heavy, bulky furniture? The service was rude. All day nothing but older folks getting off the cruise ship thinking this place is hip or nice. I fell for the trap!

I attended a cocktail party/ professional event. I was impressed with the options of outside and inside seating. The service at the bar was good, despite the large crowds and long lines. The appetizers passed through the crowd were a mixed bag, but that is typical for this type of event. The ladies room was exceptionally clean. I would like to return for another visit to see how it is when not so crowded with a professional event.

See related pic of the stopwatch I started while waiting for any staff to approach me as I sat there at a table waiting. I never got service.

This pic is worth a 1000 words. I left after receiving no service whatsoever, despite waiting over 35 minutes.

It just seemed like the staff kept getting distracted with others a lot. There was not much in the way of drinks when we tried them.

Cruise Bar is a great stop for a reasonably priced meal with a stunning view or a cheeky little after work beverage with someone you're sweet on. I went to Cruise first on a date. It was a Friday night and I was fairly new to the city. My suitor chose the spot and we met in front of the Contemporary Art Museum. I remember it being particularly balmy and me being equally nervous, so I was glad the walk to the restaurant was a short one. I could have easily ended up in a puddle of hairspray and makeup on the Circular Quay walkway. We grabbed a seat at one of the high wooden tables out on the patio facing the magnificent Opera House. The drinks were decent and the conversation was alright, but I couldn't help feeling like vibe was magical. Don't tell my date, but I was actually busy lusting after Sydney itself. It's beauty and charm, especially from that sparkly vantage point, stole my little beating heart.

There is a view of the Opera House outside. One in their patio area and the other in front. It would be nice if they changed their gate so that the view wasn't obscured by the gate design. Food and drinks were pricey. Fries were very salty.

Photo of Anita C.

We went there only for the New Year's Eve Countdown event. We bought the VIP tickets. The view was great but it's most certainly not VIP in anyway. There were very few chairs. This means most people would have to stand for an entire evening. There was also not enough food for everyone. Music was very loud. Good for club- going crowd but a torture to those who didn't like it. We ended up going to the restaurant Yuki's one floor up. So much better in every way. At least everyone could sit. The view was better, the place much more spacious. And the food very reasonably priced.

Thank God summer is coming! It means that I can go hang out at Cruise and Opera bars respectively! There is nothing better than a nice cold one after work while looking at amazing water views. The atmosphere is relaxed and the crowd equally so, which belies the location. You would expect a snobbish crowd but it seems they prefer to go to Ivy :p This is still a great place to have a drink and you don't have to spend lots of dough at the fine dining restaurants to hang out at the Overseas Passenger Terminal. See you in December! :)

Location and contact.

We went to Cruise Bar two celebrate our 53rd Wedding Anniversary. The staff were confused and distracted with other things. There was no table service, we sat for a long time before someone told us to order from the counter. We ordered oysters (6) they... we so small I had to put my reading glasses on to see them. My wife orders Fish and chips, she said it was great. I ordered the ocean trout, it also was very nice, no it was great also. The food was great, the service was very lacking, we had to ask for water, servietts, when the water did come the waiter spilt water over me opening the bottle Would I go back again , probably not, service was so bad. So sad as the food was great More

Dropped in on a Sunday lunch for food and drink. The bar staff were not the best, slow in action and strangely offering a glass with ice and straw for none alcohol beer. (And when my wife asked for another glass they offered her ice... again …). And the glass she received was dirty and wasn’t used. Food was okay for a bar. More

Fabulously location looking over Circular Quay to the Sydney Opera House. Open air with more than half the seating outside. It’s a great setup. You can order via a QR code order system or go to bar. They have a happy hour if that’s of... interest. Best of all is a live band. Fantastic. The staff including security were all friendly and helpful ... even though I see there are some bad comments about them. We had no problems and neither did anyone else that we could see. More

Shocking experience. Beginning from booking last year to the day of the party. Event management staff is incompetent and rude together with their general manager. My chosen vine list was printed wrong, the table numbers were missing and And they had to print them on... the spot, the food was everage and to top it up they embarrassed me in front of all my guests by not providing all the food that was printed on the menu. I would suggest the management to train their staff to provide better customer service or change them altogether. This venue is good for drinks only and dont have an experience to hold big sit down formal dinners ( Even though my party was only 55 people) Would never recommend that venue to anyone More

We decided to take our elderly parents to the Cruise Bar the night before they embarked on a trip of the lifetime cruise the following day. As we had a booking for dinner elsewhere, we thought we would enjoy Happy Hour at this establishment. After... having been given normal drinks menus, we had to ask for the Happy Hour menus, which are separate and smaller. The bottled Peroni beer listed had, according to staff, run out. When asked if the Peroni beer on tap was included in the Happy Hour prices, we were told yes. We were later charged the full price. Be aware that house white and bubbles are included in this charade but Rose is not.. again not explained when we ordered. We had to ask twice for an ordered cheese platter, and when it arrived after 30 minutes, had only 4 crackers! Staff were chaotic, unreliable and disinterested. Our view was nothing like what appears on the website, but that of an enormous Ship wall. Clearly geared towards weary and desperate travellers, take this place off your list if you want to enjoy with family and friends More

Where do I start??! We paid 200pp for Melbourne Cup and after waiting 20 minutes to walk in (the package was meant to start at 12) we finally get in. Once we get there (after they waste time because they can't locate anyone's names) we're... told we're sharing table with strangers (at the rooftop package, and there's absolutely no info about this on the receipts we paid for.) Of 5 tables on the rooftop there was just 1 getting service, they had 1 of which wine, beer and drink from the drinks package served to their table whilst everyone else had to keep going to the bar to ask for drinks. There was a hair on the food as you can see in the photo, and we got no apologies from it as the server replaced it.They got a laugh from it as well as "it happens". We were not given any napkins and had to wait 30min for it after the request. Please see the photo I've uploaded for the "best dressed male". YES. That was it. A white casual shirt with a bege pants. Nothing more, nothing less. YES!!!! It was the ONE table given drinks and table service. Hilarious, isn't it? Also, this same table got cocktails outside of the package, whilst when a lady from my table went to the bar to request for a glass of wine that was not on the drinks package and said she would pay for it, she was refused service. ????? Also, stay away from the food. They served us warm raw seafood. I feel like throwing $400 on the bin is the same thing as dining here, with low quality food and absolutely awful service. I will never come back here and won't recommend this to anyone. More

Extremely poor service by management! Having a staff member aggressively approach me and my guest while trying to express our dissatisfaction with our time at this venue. Not only did we ask to speak to management but manger by the name of Nathan completely brushed... off our concerns and did not help resolve the issue or reprimand the staff member who was aggressive towards us when trying to make a complaint. Noting that our group had spent more than $1K in drinks within a couple of hours which seemed to have no impact on the staffs response to us. Will never book a corporate function at this venue again. More

Place has a nice view and bar staff was nice. Main security had some issues tho, he was terrorising customers as they were travelling between the bar and table to get the drink. They even throw my drinks I just bought without my permission, we... spend thousands $ in this place but it was disappointing, security guard really aggressive to costumers. I think some people were thrown out after midnight because of standing up beside their table, while everyone was standing up during fireworks. Security ruins the place, owners/management should intervene. More

I have just been here to have the crab and chorizo stuffed sea trout and it was absolutely delicious. The crispy skin on the trout was the best I have ever had. Very reasonable prices and friendly staff made the whole experience perfect.

The glass of Coopers beer I had was very poor quality. I consider I have knowledge regarding the quality of tap beers and the beer I received was served in a dirty glass. Considering the price charged for drinks at the Cruise Bar one would... expect to receive quality drinks. They need to learn how to effectively clean their glasses More

We Ordered the Pimms cocktail jug. The Photograph on the menu was full of fruit. (Berries, apple, mint) What we received had a slice of lemon & lime. When we went back to the bar I showed the bar man the image on the menu... which we ordered on from the app. He didn’t apologise or seem too happy to have to change it. All he said was “that’s pimms”He took the jug from us and started to fix it. The other waitress over seeing this apologised and said she’d bring it down. Wouldn’t recommend here. The quality of cocktail & service wasn’t friendly. You can see the before & after pics of the cocktail attached. More

Worst place in Sydney I have been too … everything is bad about you guys . Time to shut it down and go home . Spare the paying customers . I can’t imagine anyone still running this . Simple fries seemed to be cooked 12hours... ago . No service , bad food , bad ambience More

Last night in Sydney so we ordered the seafood platter ($160) and a couple of glasses of wine. Had to go and find water and serve ourselves. Ordered our meal via the Q code (whatever happened to table service?) …. Platter was totally underwhelming ….... Chewy mussels, padded out with a lot (!) of lukewarm fries, calamari had seen better days (lukewarm also) and the lobster was decidedly average as well. More

I have been to the Cruise bar about 5-6 times in the last two years, always with some Aussie friends. Today I went to get a drink with my husband and asked if we could enter. The security did not want us crowding the entrance... so they told me to stand in a corner a little far away . After that the security staff came to me and said that we would not be allowed to enter since we were wearing running shoes ( which is what I have been wearing to Cruise bar every time I’ve been there and it has not been a problem so far). About 10 seconds after the security told us we would not be allowed inside, a couple wearing the same were allowed in, clearly the colour of their skin made the shoes invisible. If you don’t want people of colour /a different country to come in, just put up a sign. Wait, you can’t do that anymore. Racist . Racist. Racist. More

We had quite a large group of friends getting together which can be a bit daunting for any venue but absolutely nothing was s problem for the delightful staff at Cruise Bar! sensational harbour views, delicious cocktails & nibbles & great live musical all provided... the perfect ambience for a wonderful night out for us all. A few of us have visited Cruise more recently for a quieter, more relaxed evening & the vibe was the same, simply wonderful! Can highly recommend More

Venue Testimonials

Cruise Bar is possibly in one of the best locations on the Harbour. The views are amazing and the food and drink options are fantastic. Definitely recommend for a romantic after-dinner drink, a corporate lunch, or even group drinks after work.

The food at Cruise Bar was beautifully cooked and the service was excellent. The service staff had extensive knowledge of the drinks menu. Good place for a first date or to celebrate special occasions!

I was at Cruise Bar with a group of friends just to celebrate a birthday on Saturday that just passed, the staff were amazing and very accommodating and I really want to give a shout out to one of the bar staff who was serving at level one bar.

This Eccentric Western Sydney Bar Has Refreshed Their Cocktail Menu Just In Time For Autumn

By Louis Costello 4th Apr 2024

cruise bar menu sydney

For creative types and food connoisseurs, Western Sydney is heaven on earth—you just need to know where to look.

There’s a good reason Parramatta is unofficially known as Sydney’s second CBD, as its vibrant nightlife and endless hole-in-the-wall food joints cater to nocturnal folks on a feverish mission to keep the good times going.

With the help of Porsche Centre Parramatta , we’ve pulled together a handful of things to do in Western Sydney, from two-fork dining to engrossing local performances.

Things To Do In Western Sydney: Eat

Pho pasteur.

Bowl of Pho

While pho eateries can be notoriously tricky to navigate for vegans and vegetarians, Pho Pasteur caters to both and goes above and beyond the classic ‘vegetable and noodle’ combo—think succulent soy curds in a rich marinade. Scoring a light Vietnamese lunch with mates has got to be one of the best things to do in Western Sydney.

Sharing the same street as Pho Pasteur, Oribu has recruited former Nobu prodigy Harry Cho as Head Chef—so you know they’re not messing around with their menu.

Experience fine dining to the nth degree and don’t skirt around the kingfish carpaccio, served with jalapenos, fresh ginger and a signature plum sauce to kick your taste buds into overdrive.

CicciaBella

Italian’s firmly on the menu at CicciaBella , and this industrial-style Western Sydney restaurant will serve up porcini arancini that’ll make you want to order a whole tray to store in the freezer.

Filling and flavoursome, CicciaBella Trattoria hits the bullseye if you’re fiending for multiple courses paired with a smorgasbord of playful cocktails.

Things To Do In Western Sydney: Play

Riverside theatre.

Three people performing on stage

As Parramatta continues on an upward trajectory to securing the cultural hub crown, more and more local and international artists are flocking to the Riverside Theatre to put on a show.

From cabaret and comedy to music and film, there’s something playing most weeks to satisfy the cinephiles and toughest critics.

Scram Escape Rooms

Yes, escape rooms have flooded the Australian markets of late, but you (presumably) are yet to attempt a prison break from Scram Escape Rooms .

Found on O’Connell Street and Church Street, the activities vary from family-friendly to full-blown intensity. What better thing to do around Western Sydney than to put your relationships and friendships to the test in an escape room?

Drive To Wentworth Falls

Car in front of building

Things To Do In Western Sydney: Party

Venue with couches and lamps

If you're looking to nurse that post-trivia hangover from the night before we recommend the brekky pie baked with fried egg, bacon, tomato, cheese, mayo and tomato or bbq sauce.

Nick & Nora’s

Not to be confused with the Nick & Nora’s found in Melbourne, Parramatta's own N&N will transport you back to the American prohibition era. Nurse an elegant tipple of whiskey as you gaze down at the city from the 26th floor of the V Building and leave your 2024 modern-day mentality at the door.

Theo’s Rooftop Bar

Not every bar in Western Sydney is named after a person, but every bar named after a person is a guaranteed good time.

For warmer nights, there’s no better place to kick back with a drink than Theo’s Rooftop Bar , complete with a lavish swimming pool and ice buckets of prawns. It’s incredibly Australian with an upscale twist, so naturally it deserves a spot on the list.

Craving an adrenaline-fuelled adventure? Visit Porsche Centre Parramatta and feast your eyes on the stunning display of finely crafted motor vehicles that fill the showroom floor.

20 Best Hidden Bars in Sydney

A n added descriptor to make any good, small, or weird bar a little more special. Sydney is home to some of the best hidden bars in all of Australia . It’s true that many cities have these scattered around, adding a little surface flare to different neighbourhoods, but in a city the size of Sydney, with so much history and character, hidden bars truly are special places to hang out. If you’re stuck trying to find them, or you just want a new recommendation, we’ve done some digging to find some true hidden gems.

RELATED : These are the best bars in Sydney overall, outdoors, rooftop, and more .

  • The best hidden bar in Sydney overall : Shady Pines Saloon

Located through an unmarked door on Foley St just off Crown St, Darlinghurst, Shady Pines Saloon is our local and it’s widely considered the best hidden bar in Sydney. Once you get past the slew of character-adding mounts adorning the walls, you’ll find the décor warming and comfortable with plenty of space to kick back and enjoy a few drinks and a bowl of peanuts with friends. Our number one drink recommendation is the ‘Goldie Griffith’ with Tennessee whiskey, white cacao, lychee, cinnamon, pineapple, and citrus because it’s like a whisky sour taken up 10 levels. However, you can always keep it neat with a can from their beer collection.

Address : 4/256 Crown St, Darlinghurst NSW 2010

Hours : Sun-Thur 4pm-12am, Fri-Sat 4pm-1:30am

You’ve probably seen this place all over social media, but we can assure you the trip to Manly is worth your while if you haven’t visited The Cumberland. This top hidden bar in Sydney is home to some of our favourite cocktails and with enough space to accommodate large groups, everyone can partake in the action. Also a great spot if you’re looking for food , the range of tapas includes Sydney Rock Oysters and Burrata that goes perfectly with a glass of white wine or a ‘Lemon Aspen Fizz’ cocktail with kombucha, mezcal, Grand Marnier, lime, and jalapeno.

Our favourite hidden bar in Sydney if you’re trying to impress, Apollonia is a teeny-tiny spot hidden below Hinchcliff House. First, be warned this place gets busy very quickly so we recommend heading in early if you want to tick this off your bucket list. Food is sophisticated,m with oysters, yellowfin tuna, and a range of cheeses, however, it’s the cocktails that really stand out here. Our favourite is the infamous ‘Cassata’ with Michters bourbon, amaretto, spiced honey, and pumpkin ricotta.

Address : 5-7 Young St Basement Level, Sydney NSW 2000

Hours : Mon-Wed 3pm-12am, Thur 3pm-1am, Fri 3pm-2am, Sat 4pm-2am

Welcome to one of the newest hidden bars in Sydney with candle-lit ambience, old-school Mexican music, and walls adorned with agave. You’ll love the rotating menu of curated cocktails by the Maybe Sammy team, with the menu including the Encanto with Patrón Silver, dry vermouth and cherry soda, Perfume de Gardenias with Patrón Reposado, peach & citrus cordial and jasmine soda, and Pastel de Planto with Patrón Reposado, banana and cinnamon cordial, salt and agave.

Sitting high above Clarence St, Sydney, Old Mates Place is one of our favourite hidden bars in the Harbour City. It’s been a favourite hangout of ours for a long time because you can visit during all seasons, basking in the sun at the rooftop bar during the summer or chilling out inside and sipping on a whiskey during the winter. Choose from any of the listed cocktails and you’ll be satisfied or let the team of skilled bartenders make you something from scratch. Food includes a range of cheese steaks, with all dietary requirements covered.

Address : level 4/199 Clarence St, Sydney NSW 2000

Hours : Tues-Thurs 4pm-2am, Fri-Sun 2pm-2am

Address : 152/156 Clarence St, Sydney NSW 2000

Hours : Tues-Sun 4pm-3am

One of the best bars in The Rocks, The Doss House is a hidden bar in Sydney that houses some of the finest whiskey we’ve come across. This is our pick of the bunch if you want to hang out and taste a range of whiskies with tasting flights available and a full menu that reads more like a book. Sip on a glass of The Macallan 12 Triple Wood before transitioning to a glass of Glenglassaugh 30, there’s plenty to choose from.

Address : 77/79 George St, The Rocks NSW 2000

Hours : Tues-Thurs 5pm-1am, Fri-Sat 4pm-2am, Sun 2pm-12am

Their drinks menu includes all of your favourite beers and spirits, but we head here for biodynamic, minimal intervention, and natural wines. Hours : Mon-Wed 4pm-12am, Thur 12pm-12am, Fri 12pm-1am, Sat 4pm-1am

Huxley’s doesn’t look like much from the outside, but inside it’s like stepping to the other side of the world: Manhattan to be exact, fashioning itself like a classic American sports bar. This Newtown gem is a throwback to the great bars in New Orleans, Louisiana, with drinks strong enough to make you feel like it’s always Mardi Gras and a cozy wooden interior that just makes you want to spend the night. Bar Harbor resident sues town to reduce 2024 cruise ship visits

A Bar Harbor resident who has spearheaded a local citizen effort to greatly reduce local cruise ship visits has gone to court to try to force the town to slash the number that will visit this summer.

Charles Sidman , who in 2022 initiated a successful citizens’ petition to limit cruise ship passengers to 1,000 per day, filed a complaint  Tuesday in Hancock County Superior Court. Sidman is seeking to overturn a town council decision not to fully enforce the 1,000-passenger daily limit until 2025.

Sidman’s court appeal is the latest wrinkle in a years-long skirmish involving residents, local businesses and town officials over the impact cruise ship visits have on Bar Harbor. Local business owners say the visits — which grew from fewer than 20 each year in the late 1980s to more than 150 in 2019 — are an important source of income for the town and for locals, but many residents say the ships cause congestion downtown in the summertime and have an overall harmful impact on the town.

In addition to Sidman’s court appeal, the town is facing an appeal in federal court from a local coalition of businesses that thinks the daily 1,000 passenger limit is too low. The group, called Association to Preserve and Protect Local Livelihoods, said last week that it planned to appeal a federal court decision that upheld the passenger limit.

Sidman and town officials released accusatory statements on Thursday, while the business group released one of its own last week.

The business group said the cruise ship reduction, and the resulting drop of $1.6 million in cruise ship fee revenue for the town, is “a major reason why” some residents are seeing 20 percent increases in their property tax bills.

Town officials said Thursday that over the past two years, since Sidman began his campaign to force the town to drastically reduce local cruise ship visits, the town has incurred more than $300,000 in legal bills.

“It’s unfortunate that, especially in an extremely tight budget year, any individual or group would pursue frivolous litigation over healthy political dialogue,” said Val Peacock, the council chair. “This only serves to divert attention and resources from other important issues while unfairly adding to the tax burden of their friends and neighbors.”

Sidman, who is running this year for a council seat, said the council has “overreached” in its efforts to delay full implementation of the daily passenger limit.

“I believe that our town council has gone rogue and dysfunctional,” Sidman said. “I continue to believe that the majority of our citizens are smarter than the misinformers [on the council] claim, and can understand and will uphold what is at stake.”

The debate over local cruise ship traffic came to a head after more than half of respondents to a town survey  said in the summer of 2021 that the volume of cruise ship visits was hurting the town. Town officials then came up with a plan, supported by local businesses, that would have set daily limits of 3,500 or 3,800 passengers, along with higher monthly limits, that varied with the time of year.

The November 2022 citizens’ referendum  spearheaded by Sidman circumvented that plan.

The business group, which in January 2023  filed a federal suit against the town over the daily 1,000-passenger limit, argued that it violated federal maritime law and parts of the U.S. Constitution, and that it would hurt their businesses.

But in February, Judge Lance Walker ruled that the voter-approved limit is legal  because it does not discriminate against out-of-state interests in favor of local businesses, which federal law seeks to prevent.

Last month, after the federal court ruling, the town council said it would not ban all ships with more than 1,000 passengers this summer because some of those ships made their reservations before the November 2022 referendum. Ships with large passenger capacities that made reservations after the referendum, despite being informed of the vote results, will have their reservations canceled.

“It is the position of this council that this is the fairest and most legally responsible approach, based upon careful consideration of costs and risks associated with enforcement,” the council said. “Canceling the bulk of the 2024 season now would be fundamentally unfair, would potentially expose the town to additional legal liabilities, and would have a drastic fiscal impact on an already strained and nearly complete municipal budget.”
