Chrysler reintroduced the Voyager as a 2020 model to take the place of lower-spec models of the Pacifica, which made its debut in 2016. The Voyager competes with more affordable trims of the Honda Odyssey, Kia Sedona, and Toyota Sienna.

What We Think

Based on our brief experience with the Voyager , the new model offers most of what we like about the Pacifica at a lower price point, and it does so without feeling cheap. Comfortable cloth seats and soft-touch plastic interior materials come off as high-quality.

The Voyager also offers the same light-on-its-feet handling and surprisingly quick performance of the Pacifica, thanks to its solid V-6 engine. Because the Voyager shares most of its body panels with the higher-end Pacifica, it shares the more expensive van's dashing looks.

Some Pacifica features aren't offered on the Voyager—no exceptionally practical second-row Stow 'n Go seats, no touchless power liftgate or power doors, no adaptive cruise control—but it's an excellent affordable minivan.

Performance and Fuel Economy

Every Voyager is powered by Chrysler's 3.6-liter naturally aspirated V-6. In this application, it produces 287 hp and 262 lb-ft, which are routed via a nine-speed automatic to the front wheels. The Voyager is EPA-rated at 19/28 mpg city/highway. We haven't tested a Voyager, but a Chrysler Pacifica with the same engine, transmission, and platform can hit 60 in as little as 6.7 seconds.

Chrysler's affordable minivan performs relatively well in safety testing by the IIHS . The Voyager earns the highest possible Good rating on five of six crashworthiness evaluations and a second-best Acceptable rating in the small overlap front passenger-side test. It struggles in headlight ratings, where it earns the lowest available rating of Poor as a result of inadequate visibility on both sides of the road.

Cargo Space and Interior Room

Front legroom measures 41.1 inches, and there are 39.0 and 36.5 inches in the second and third rows, respectively. Cargo volume measures 32.3 cubic feet behind the third row, 87.5 with the third row folded, and an impressive 140.5 cubic feet behind the first row with all the seats folded down.

All Voyagers feature six-speaker audio and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality as standard. LX models add satellite radio compatibility.

What 2020 Chrysler Voyageur Trim Level Should you Buy? What is the Difference Between Trims?

1983 was the year the world of family transportation changed. This is when the Plymouth Voyageur minivan was introduced to America. Instead of the cramped spaces of full-sized sedans and station wagons, the Voyageur gave families three rows of seating for seven occupants.

After many years as a lead in the minivan world, the Voyageur disappeared. Now it's back under the Chrysler banner. Not only is the name familiar but the design it has been placed on is also recognizable.

The reason is that the 2020 Chrysler Voyageur adopted the two lowest trims from the Pacifica. Thus, whatever enhancements were made in the 2019 model year are now part of the Voyageur.

The L and LX are the trims reintroducing the Voyageur to the American market. On average, there's only a $3,000 difference in MSRP between the two trims. This guide demonstrates the main differences between them. The goal is to help buyers decide on the Voyageur design that works best for their needs.

Compare the 2020 Chrysler Voyageur L vs LX Trims. What is the difference?

Engine components are important no matter the type of vehicle driven. Even a minivan requires a certain amount of power for acceleration in all driving environments. It also requires the ability to shift to a maximum gear without clumsiness or slipping.

There's no difference in the power trains between these two trims. The LX doesn't even have an option to upgrade. Everyone gets a 3.6-liter V6 engine connected to a nine-speed automatic transmission. The maximum horsepower at 4400 RPM is 287. The pound-feet of torque is rated at 262. This is about average for a minivan the size of the Voyageur

The LX does have one thing the L does not -- final drive ratio. This feature is the end gear, and it can transform the way the Voyageur operates if it’s adjusted. For instance, lowering the final drive ratio can reduce the amount of torque while simultaneously increasing speed.

Fuel Efficiency

Fuel economy goes hand-in-hand with the engine. This is especially the case when driving a larger vehicle like the 2020 Chrysler Voyageur. Without a decent miles per gallon (mpg) rating, the low cost of the minivan doesn't outweigh the constant fill-ups.

Luckily, the fuel efficiency of the L and LX trims on the 2020 Chrysler Voyageur are worth its base MSRP. Each gets 19 mpg in the city and 28 on the highway. With a 19 gallon tank and an average of 23 mpg, the Voyageur can travel about 430 miles before a fill-up.

When comparing trims, the vehicle's exterior design is one area that tends to be different between the styles. Some of these changes may be minor, especially when looking at family-based cars. In other words, there isn't a sports package and rear spoiler available for the 2020 Chrysler Voyageur.

Nevertheless, the L and LX differ with exterior features, thus the variation in basic MSRP. Starting with the wheels, the L has 17-inch wheel covers along with a 17" by 7.5" steel wheels. The LX has 17" x 7" aluminum wheels. Both styles come with all-season tires that are checked by with air pressure sensors.

Both trims come with sunscreen glass that absorbs the heat and light. In turn, the interior of the 2020 Chrysler Voyageur remains comfortable even during hot days. On cold days, the L and LX trims can thaw the side-view mirrors via heated elements.

Lighting is where consumers see the difference between the two trims. The L has basic halogen headlamps. The LX goes beyond with automatic headlamps and LED lamps for the front and back.

Exterior design is nearly similar in the 2020 Chrysler Voyageur trims. Both come with the Chrysler and Voyageur badges on the front grille and back liftgate. They also have a capless fuel-fill -- a design that minimizes wear and tear of a fuel cap and subsequent check engine alerts. The only exterior difference is in the LX. It adds active grille shutters to the design. These open and shut automatically to control airflow. The result is better aerodynamics and increased fuel efficiency.

These days, the design of a minivan's interior is extremely important. It can't have the style that the original Voyageur came out with in the 1980s. Instead, it needs to accommodate technology and comfort for long drives and drop-offs/pick-ups of various family members.

Thus, the interior of the 2020 Chrysler Voyageur is another location where differences are seen in the two trims. For instance, the LX features the ever-popular in-floor storage bins in the second row. Not only do these expand the amount of payload capacity they also permit the second-row seats to be completely folded. As a result, the maximum amount of flat cargo space is increased.

A second difference is floor mats. Yes, the L doesn't have these as standard options. The LX provides them for the front second rows. These may seem trivial at first. However, their use can drastically increase the life of the floor covering.

In the category of seating, the LX contains enhancements over the L. The low-end trim has a manually adjustable six-way driver’s seat. The higher-end trim offers an automatic eight-way driver’s seat with four different lumbar settings.

The LX also has a seating feature that is very convenient for third-row passengers. It's the Easy Slide bucket seats in the second row. This permits the back row occupants to exit the minivan easier than climbing over each other and the middle row of seats.

Audio and Multimedia

Both audio and multimedia are critical components in today's vehicles. Particularly when it comes to a minivan. The more ways to stream entertainment the better for a variety of passengers.

Both trims of the 2020 Chrysler Voyager have these components. Like the other interior and exterior features, the L and LX differ. However, not in every category.

The trims come standard with a six-speaker audio system and a seven-inch touchscreen in the center panel. The L and LX also utilize Chrysler's UConnect 4 technology.

More advanced than other infotainment setups, UConnect 4 integrates Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In turn, drivers can utilize their phone apps on the Voyageur's touchscreen display. In addition, it's compatible with Bluetooth for hands-free phone operations. Furthermore, UConnect 4 allows for voice-command recognition.

The LX goes slightly further in its multimedia setup. On top of what UConnect 4 does for the L trim, it comes standard with a one-year subscription to Sirius XM Radio. For ease of use, volume and audio controls are built into the steering wheel.

Surprisingly, the L and LX trims are similar in security features. It doesn't mean they're subpar. On the contrary, they meet or are above the standards of other minivans on the market.

Each trim has remote keyless entry and push button start. Because the key needs to be in proximity to the button to activate the engine, this severely reduces the risk of vehicle theft. Both also feature a Sentry Key deterrent system.

With the ability to carry seven occupants at one time, the 2020 Chrysler Voyageur has sufficient safety tools to protect everyone. Airbags are one important component. All rows are protected by a series of multi-stage and side curtain airbags that deploy if necessary.

A rear-view camera helps to detect objects in a large space behind the vehicle. Meanwhile, daytime running lamps allow drivers coming in the opposite direction to see you.

The other safety features are connected to the Voyageur's performance. Both the L and LX trims come with electronic stability control. This mechanism permits the minivan to keep all four wheels on the road when it's slick or when an emergency maneuver is required.

Hill start assist is another important safety tool. Used while on an incline, the assist mechanism keeps the brake down until it detects acceleration. The end result is the minivan doesn't slide downhill as the foot is moved from the brake to the accelerator.

Unfortunately, neither trim of the 2020 Chrysler Voyageur the suite of driver assist aids that come with minivans from other manufacturers. They don't even offer tools like blind zone alert and lane assist as optional upgrades.

There is no difference in the warranty between the two trims. Actually, what's provided is standard protection of the exterior and powertrain.

Chrysler offers a three-year 36,000-mile limited warranty on all parts of the 2020 Voyageur. The powertrain is five-years and 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. Roadside assistance for flat tires and jump starts is similarly covered. The only item that has an unlimited range of miles is rust protection. That ends in 60 months.

2020 Chrysler Voyageur: Which Trim to Choose?

When Chrysler decided to strip the two lower trims from their Pacifica line to continue the Voyageur legacy, they didn't leave consumers with different options to choose from. As they were the lowest-priced trims, the L and LX were very basic. In addition, there were no further enhancements for the 2020 model year. The only changes came from the 2019 model year.

Therefore, when deciding on what 2020 Chrysler Voyageur trim to choose, consumers need to drill down and look at the smaller differences. For instance, in examining the powertrain configuration, both trims seem to be identical. However, if one reviews the line items, they'll find the LX has an addition that helps increase the minivan's overall acceleration at the last up-gear.

There isn't much different inside the vehicle. The seats on both the L and LX are cloth. The dash and armrests are made of hard plastic. The flooring surface is a standard carpet found in other minivans.

The biggest change is in the way storage is handled between the two trims. Here, the LX has an advantage with the in-floor bin storage. It allows for both the second and third rows to be flattened to expand the cubic feet of space behind the driver's row.

The LX also has a slight advantage in multimedia. Consumers receive a one-year subscription to satellite radio. In addition, they have the ability to control various media and audio settings via buttons built into the steering wheel.

In the end, the LX trim of the 2020 Chrysler Voyageur is the best one for consumers. With only a $3,000 difference between the two trims, buyers get more bang for their buck. While it may not seem like a lot, these small differences can help.

The final drive ratio is certainly a benefit. As consumers may not use the minivan to haul equipment, the increased acceleration is more useful than torque. The automatic adjustable seats are also a plus, particularly the ones for lumbar control. The driver needs this on long journeys for family drop-offs and pickups.

Overall, this is a basic guide. What consumers need to do is visit a dealership to see the two trims and take a test drive. It's then that they can decide if the L or LX trim of the 2020 Chrysler Voyageur is the right one for their needs.

This new minivan is positioned between the long-running Dodge Grand Caravan and the current Chrysler Pacifica, on which it's based. The Voyager is essentially the two cheapest trims of the Pacifica, the L and LX, spun off under a new model name. (The fleet-only LXi version is headed primarily for rental car lots.)

The Voyager, and its twin the Dodge Caravan, was redesigned for 2001. Although engine power increased, acceleration remains lackluster and fuel economy unimpressive with the popular 3.3-liter, 180-hp V6. A harsh and unresponsive 2.4-liter, 150-hp four-cylinder, shared with the PT Cruiser, continues as the base engine. Powertrain shortcomings aside, the Voyager rides fairly comfortably, and its handling is secure. The third-row seat is a handy 50/50 split bench that's fairly easy to remove, though not as versatile as some competitors' fold-into-the-floor designs. An entry-level eC model joined the lineup for 2002. Optional power-adjustable pedals were also added.

Chrysler brought back the Voyager in 2020 to split its minivan offering as a lower-cost version of the Pacifica. The Voyager takes over for the L and LX trim levels, which account for about a third of Pacificas sold, thereby offering a more affordable entry into the minivan line. It uses the same 3.6-liter V6 engine as the Pacifica, matched with a nine-speed automatic transmission. That combination delivers good power in the Pacifica, where it returned 21 mpg overall. The Voyager does not offer key advanced safety systems, such as forward collision warning or automatic emergency braking. At least, blind spot warning is optional. 

All Voyagers became Chryslers since the Plymouth brand was phased out. The Chrysler Voyager/Dodge Caravan twins are still competitive. They ride fairly quietly and handle reasonably well. A handy second, left-side sliding door is optional, but power operation isn't offered. The 3.3-liter, 158-hp V6 is the engine to choose. Other engine choices are a 2.4-liter four-cylinder and a 3.0-liter V6. The front seats provide decent support. The middle and rear seats are easy to unhitch for maximum cargo room. They're very heavy, but small wheels make them easier to move.

Subterranean commuting might not be anyone’s idea of a good time, but even in a city packing the war-games treasures and priceless bejeweled eggs of the Kremlin Armoury and the colossal Soviet pavilions of the VDNKh , the Metro holds up as one of Moscow’s finest museums. Just avoid rush hour.

The Metro is stunning and provides an unrivaled insight into the city’s psyche, past and present, but it also happens to be the best way to get around. Moscow has Uber, and the Russian version called Yandex Taxi , but also some nasty traffic. Metro trains come around every 90 seconds or so, at a more than 99 percent on-time rate. It’s also reasonably priced, with a single ride at 55 cents (and cheaper in bulk). From history to tickets to rules — official and not — here’s what you need to know to get started.

Moscow’s Metro was a long time coming. Plans for rapid transit to relieve the city’s beleaguered tram system date back to the Imperial era, but a couple of wars and a revolution held up its development. Stalin revived it as part of his grand plan to modernize the Soviet Union in the 1920s and 30s. The first lines and tunnels were constructed with help from engineers from the London Underground, although Stalin’s secret police decided that they had learned too much about Moscow’s layout and had them arrested on espionage charges and deported.

The beauty of its stations (if not its trains) is well-documented, and certainly no accident. In its illustrious first phases and particularly after the Second World War, the greatest architects of Soviet era were recruited to create gleaming temples celebrating the Revolution, the USSR, and the war triumph. No two stations are exactly alike, and each of the classic showpieces has a theme. There are world-famous shrines to Futurist architecture, a celebration of electricity, tributes to individuals and regions of the former Soviet Union. Each marble slab, mosaic tile, or light fixture was placed with intent, all in service to a station’s aesthetic; each element, f rom the smallest brass ear of corn to a large blood-spattered sword on a World War II mural, is an essential part of the whole.

The Metro is a monument to the Soviet propaganda project it was intended to be when it opened in 1935 with the slogan “Building a Palace for the People”. It brought the grand interiors of Imperial Russia to ordinary Muscovites, celebrated the Soviet Union’s past achievements while promising its citizens a bright Soviet future, and of course, it was a show-piece for the world to witness the might and sophistication of life in the Soviet Union.

It may be a museum, but it’s no relic. U p to nine million people use it daily, more than the London Underground and New York Subway combined. (Along with, at one time, about 20 stray dogs that learned to commute on the Metro.)

In its 80+ year history, the Metro has expanded in phases and fits and starts, in step with the fortunes of Moscow and Russia. Now, partly in preparation for the World Cup 2018, it’s also modernizing. New trains allow passengers to walk the entire length of the train without having to change carriages. The system is becoming more visitor-friendly. (There are helpful stickers on the floor marking out the best selfie spots .) But there’s a price to modernity: it’s phasing out one of its beloved institutions, the escalator attendants. Often they are middle-aged or elderly women—“ escalator grandmas ” in news accounts—who have held the post for decades, sitting in their tiny kiosks, scolding commuters for bad escalator etiquette or even bad posture, or telling jokes . They are slated to be replaced, when at all, by members of the escalator maintenance staff.

For all its achievements, the Metro lags behind Moscow’s above-ground growth, as Russia’s capital sprawls ever outwards, generating some of the world’s worst traffic jams . But since 2011, the Metro has been in the middle of an ambitious and long-overdue enlargement; 60 new stations are opening by 2020. If all goes to plan, the 2011-2020 period will have brought 125 miles of new tracks and over 100 new stations — a 40 percent increase — the fastest and largest expansion phase in any period in the Metro’s history.

• If you’re going to be using the Metro regularly over a few days, it’s worth getting a Troika card , a contactless, refillable card you can use on all public transport. Using the Metro is cheaper with one of these: a single ride is 36₽, not 55₽. Buy them and refill them in the Metro stations, and they’re valid for 5 years, so you can keep it for next time. Or, if you have a lot of cash left on it when you leave, you can get it refunded at the Metro Service Centers at Ulitsa 1905 Goda, 25 or at Staraya Basmannaya 20, Building 1.
• You can also buy silicone bracelets and keychains with built-in transport chips that you can use as a Troika card. (A Moscow Metro Fitbit!) So far, you can only get these at the Pushkinskaya metro station Live Helpdesk and souvenir shops in the Mayakovskaya and Trubnaya metro stations. The fare is the same as for the Troika card.
• You can also use Apple Pay and Samsung Pay.

Stand to the right on the escalator. Break this rule and you risk the wrath of the legendary escalator attendants. (No shenanigans on the escalators in general.)

Get out of the way. Find an empty corner to hide in when you get off a train and need to stare at your phone. Watch out getting out of the train in general; when your train doors open, people tend to appear from nowhere or from behind ornate marble columns, walking full-speed.

Always offer your seat to elderly ladies (what are you, a monster?).

An Easy Tour

This is no Metro Marathon ( 199 stations in 20 hours ). It’s an easy tour, taking in most—though not all—of the notable stations, the bulk of it going clockwise along the Circle line, with a couple of short detours. These stations are within minutes of one another, and the whole tour should take about 1-2 hours.

Start at Mayakovskaya Metro station , at the corner of Tverskaya and Garden Ring,  Triumfalnaya Square, Moskva, Russia, 125047.

1. Mayakovskaya.  Named for Russian Futurist Movement poet Vladimir Mayakovsky and an attempt to bring to life the future he imagined in his poems. (The Futurist Movement, natch, was all about a rejecting the past and celebrating all things speed, industry, modern machines, youth, modernity.) The result: an Art Deco masterpiece that won the National Grand Prix for architecture at the New York World’s Fair in 1939. It’s all smooth, rounded shine and light, and gentle arches supported by columns of dark pink marble and stainless aircraft steel. Each of its 34 ceiling niches has a mosaic. During World War II, the station was used as an air-raid shelter and, at one point, a bunker for Stalin. He gave a subdued but rousing speech here in Nov. 6, 1941 as the Nazis bombed the city above.

Take the 3/Green line one station to:

2. Belorusskaya. Opened in 1952, named after the connected Belarussky Rail Terminal, which runs trains between Moscow and Belarus. This is a light marble affair with a white, cake-like ceiling, lined with Belorussian patterns and 12 Florentine ceiling mosaics depicting life in Belarussia when it was built.

Transfer onto the 1/Brown line. Then, one stop (clockwise) t o:

3. Novoslobodskaya.  This station was designed around the stained-glass panels, which were made in Latvia, because Alexey Dushkin, the Soviet starchitect who dreamed it up (and also designed Mayakovskaya station) couldn’t find the glass and craft locally. The stained glass is the same used for Riga’s Cathedral, and the panels feature plants, flowers, members of the Soviet intelligentsia (musician, artist, architect) and geometric shapes.

Go two stops east on the 1/Circle line to:

4. Komsomolskaya. Named after the Komsomol, or the Young Communist League, this might just be peak Stalin Metro style. Underneath the hub for three regional railways, it was intended to be a grand gateway to Moscow and is today its busiest station. It has chandeliers; a yellow ceiling with Baroque embellishments; and in the main hall, a colossal red star overlaid on golden, shimmering tiles. Designer Alexey Shchusev designed it as an homage to the speech Stalin gave at Red Square on Nov. 7, 1941, in which he invoked Russia’s illustrious military leaders as a pep talk to Soviet soldiers through the first catastrophic year of the war.   The station’s eight large mosaics are of the leaders referenced in the speech, such as Alexander Nevsky, a 13th-century prince and military commander who bested German and Swedish invading armies.

One more stop clockwise to Kurskaya station,  and change onto the 3/Blue  line, and go one stop to:

5. Baumanskaya.   Opened in 1944. Named for the Bolshevik Revolutionary Nikolai Bauman , whose monument and namesake district are aboveground here. Though he seemed like a nasty piece of work (he apparently once publicly mocked a woman he had impregnated, who later hung herself), he became a Revolutionary martyr when he was killed in 1905 in a skirmish with a monarchist, who hit him on the head with part of a steel pipe. The station is in Art Deco style with atmospherically dim lighting, and a series of bronze sculptures of soldiers and homefront heroes during the War. At one end, there is a large mosaic portrait of Lenin.

Stay on that train direction one more east to:

6. Elektrozavodskaya. As you may have guessed from the name, this station is the Metro’s tribute to all thing electrical, built in 1944 and named after a nearby lightbulb factory. It has marble bas-relief sculptures of important figures in electrical engineering, and others illustrating the Soviet Union’s war-time struggles at home. The ceiling’s recurring rows of circular lamps give the station’s main tunnel a comforting glow, and a pleasing visual effect.

Double back two stops to Kurskaya station , and change back to the 1/Circle line. Sit tight for six stations to:

7. Kiyevskaya. This was the last station on the Circle line to be built, in 1954, completed under Nikita Khrushchev’ s guidance, as a tribute to his homeland, Ukraine. Its three large station halls feature images celebrating Ukraine’s contributions to the Soviet Union and Russo-Ukrainian unity, depicting musicians, textile-working, soldiers, farmers. (One hall has frescoes, one mosaics, and the third murals.) Shortly after it was completed, Khrushchev condemned the architectural excesses and unnecessary luxury of the Stalin era, which ushered in an epoch of more austere Metro stations. According to the legend at least, he timed the policy in part to ensure no Metro station built after could outshine Kiyevskaya.

Change to the 3/Blue line and go one stop west.

8. Park Pobedy. This is the deepest station on the Metro, with one of the world’s longest escalators, at 413 feet. If you stand still, the escalator ride to the surface takes about three minutes .) Opened in 2003 at Victory Park, the station celebrates two of Russia’s great military victories. Each end has a mural by Georgian artist Zurab Tsereteli, who also designed the “ Good Defeats Evil ” statue at the UN headquarters in New York. One mural depicts the Russian generals’ victory over the French in 1812 and the other, the German surrender of 1945. The latter is particularly striking; equal parts dramatic, triumphant, and gruesome. To the side, Red Army soldiers trample Nazi flags, and if you look closely there’s some blood spatter among the detail. Still, the biggest impressions here are the marble shine of the chessboard floor pattern and the pleasingly geometric effect if you view from one end to the other.

Keep going one more stop west to:

9. Slavyansky Bulvar.  One of the Metro’s youngest stations, it opened in 2008. With far higher ceilings than many other stations—which tend to have covered central tunnels on the platforms—it has an “open-air” feel (or as close to it as you can get, one hundred feet under). It’s an homage to French architect Hector Guimard, he of the Art Nouveau entrances for the Paris M é tro, and that’s precisely what this looks like: A Moscow homage to the Paris M é tro, with an additional forest theme. A Cyrillic twist on Guimard’s Metro-style lettering over the benches, furnished with t rees and branch motifs, including creeping vines as towering lamp-posts.

Stay on the 3/Blue line and double back four stations to:

10. Arbatskaya. Its first iteration, Arbatskaya-Smolenskaya station, was damaged by German bombs in 1941. It was rebuilt in 1953, and designed to double as a bomb shelter in the event of nuclear war, although unusually for stations built in the post-war phase, this one doesn’t have a war theme. It may also be one of the system’s most elegant: Baroque, but toned down a little, with red marble floors and white ceilings with gilded bronze c handeliers.

Jump back on the 3/Blue line  in the same direction and take it one more stop:

11. Ploshchad Revolyutsii (Revolution Square). Opened in 1938, and serving Red Square and the Kremlin . Its renowned central hall has marble columns flanked by 76 bronze statues of Soviet heroes: soldiers, students, farmers, athletes, writers, parents. Some of these statues’ appendages have a yellow sheen from decades of Moscow’s commuters rubbing them for good luck. Among the most popular for a superstitious walk-by rub: the snout of a frontier guard’s dog, a soldier’s gun (where the touch of millions of human hands have tapered the gun barrel into a fine, pointy blade), a baby’s foot, and a woman’s knee. (A brass rooster also sports the telltale gold sheen, though I am told that rubbing the rooster is thought to bring bad luck. )

Now take the escalator up, and get some fresh air.
