Ice Cube, Cypress Hill and The Game: 2023 Australian Tour

Add three more names to the hefty list of big music stars heading Australia's way in 2023: Ice Cube, Cypress Hill and The Game. In what's basically a 90s and 00s hip hop and rap fan's dream come true, the trio are teaming up on the same bill for an Aussie arena tour, including hitting Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney in autumn.

This isn't just any old nostalgia-dripping tour, either. It'll also mark the 30th anniversary of two influential albums: Ice Cube's Lethal Injection and Cypress Hill's Black Sunday . The former was the N.W.A member's fourth solo release, and included singles 'Really Doe', 'You Know How We Do It' and 'Bop Gun (One Nation)', while the latter gave the world 'Insane in the Brain', 'Hits from the Bong', 'When the Shit Goes Down' and 'I Ain't Goin' Out Like That'.

Expect to hear plenty of those songs get a whirl on Sunday, March 26 in the Harbour City.

For Ice Cube, the tour marks his first visit to Australia since 2018, when he became the first-ever rap artist to headline at the Sydney Opera House.

"I love performing in Australia. It's been four long years since my last visit and I can't wait to return for a couple of history-making shows in 2023," said the rapper, aka O'Shea Jackson Sr (and yes, his son O'Shea Jackson Jr did play him in N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton ).

Ice Cube and Cypress Hill will be joined by The Game, who came to fame in the 00s in the West Coast scene. The US talents will also feature Aussie talent in support, with exactly who else will take to the stage yet to be announced.

Time Out says

Calling all '90s hip-hop fans, this stadium tour is insane in the membrane

In news that’s got teens of the '90s giddy, some of hip-hop’s heavy-hitters are making their way Down Under in March 2023. American rapper and actor Ice Cube is celebrating the 30th anniversary of his famous 1993 Lethal Injection album, with Cypress Hill and The Game in tow. They’ll be performing at the Qudos Bank Arena, as well as in Melbourne, Adelaide and Brissy.

They’re big names, and the shows will be big, in-your-face productions. “I love performing in Australia. It’s been four long years since my last visit and I can’t wait to return for a couple of history-making shows in 2023,” says Mr Cube, who’s famous for politically-driven solo albums. He's also known for his lyrics on N.W.A’s 1988 album Straight Outta Compton , which were instrumental in the development of gangsta rap. Ice Cube’s musical mastery saw him and N.W.A. inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.

Californian rap group Cypress Hill of ‘Insane in the Brain’ fame earned fans around the world (as well as a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and three Grammy Award nominations) thanks to their genre-shifting sonic tapestry. The group introduced Latino sounds and rhymes to hip-hop. Cypress Hill also celebrates an anniversary next year – 2023 will be 30 years since they released Black Sunday , the album featuring songs like ‘Hits from the Bong’ and ‘I Ain’t Goin’ Out Like That’.

Then there’s double-platinum artist The Game, who emerged from the US’s West Coast hip-hop scene in the early 2000s with his intensely autobiographical narratives.

These huge international acts will also be joined by some exciting homegrown Aussie talent (still to be announced).

Tickets go on sale to the public at 2pm (local time) on Wednesday, November 22, 2022. Buy tickets here .

Ice Cube

Ice Cube, Cypress Hill and The Game to Tour Australia in 2023

By Giuliano Ferla

Three icons of 90s/00s rap,  Ice Cube ,  Cypress Hill   and  The Game , have announced a multi-headline arena tour of Australia in March 2023. The tour comes at an auspicious time for Cube, as he celebrates the 30th anniversary of his fourth solo album,  Lethal Injection. Ice Cube was a founding member of seminal gangster rap group N.W.A, which also featured of Dr. Dre, Eazy-E and MC Ren.

Dre and Cube were early pioneers of G-funk, a style of gangster rap heavily influenced by the P-funk styles of  George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic . G-funk was pervasive in its popularity and greatly influenced  Kendrick Lamar ’s 2015 album  To Pimp a Butterfly.

Ice Cube – Bop Gun (One Nation)

Ice Cube was criticised by Dr. Dre on the latter’s 1992 album,  The Chronic , and  years of acrimony  between the two followed. Although, as of 2015 it appears the pair have overcome their differences, with Cube and Dre appearing on the cover of Rolling Stone to promote the N.W.A biopic,  Straight Outta Compton.

Ice Cube will be joined on the tour by fellow Californian hip hop trio, Cypress Hill, who are celebrating the 30th anniversary of their second album,  Black Sunday.  Early 2000s Compton rapper, The Game, rounds out the lineup. Shows have been announced in Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane.

UPDATE [22/03/2023]: The Game will no longer be performing alongside Ice Cube and Cypress Hill when the rap legends tour Australia this month. Replacing the Compton rapper will be A.B. Original.

Original Article – Ice Cube, Cypress Hill & The Game Are Touring Australia In March 2023

All three acts are set to play some massive arena shows around Australia in late March 2023 across just five days, kicking off at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, heading to Adelaide Entertainment Centre and Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena and then wrapping up at Brisbane Entertainment Centre.

All three acts have played numerous shows in Australia over the past decade, with the most recent being Cube’s earth-shattering performance at the Sydney Opera House in 2018. He joined the likes of Wu-Tang Clan and Kanye West before him as some of the only rappers to play on Australia’s most iconic stage, validating his status are one of the industry’s most prolific, important and influential emcees.

RELATED: 50 Cent Is Hitting Australia This Year To Perform His Classic Bangers

Headliner Ice Cube will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of his 1993 album, Lethal Injection , so it’s more than likely a few of the singles from that banger should be creeping onto the setlist. Expect to hear the Funkadelic-laced ‘Bop Gun (One Nation),’ smash hit ‘You Know How We Do It,’ and fan-favourites like ‘Really Doe’ and ‘Ghetto Bird.’

The Game has also got plenty of acclaim to his name. Ever since bursting onto the scene as 50 Cent’s protege with 2015’s The Documentary , his gruff voice has made a massive impact at the cross-section of gangster rap and pop, borrowing some of 50’s radio-friendly sensibility but managing to bring more shades of Compton to the table and paving the way for new-age west coast rappers like Kendrick Lamar and YG.

It’s looking like the promoters behind the massive tour want to turn the triple bill into a bit of a festival as well. A bunch of Australian support acts should be announced closer to the date and we’ll update this piece when they are.

The Ice Cube, Cypress Hill and The Game shows in Australia are the latest to be added to the schedule of live music helping kick off 2023. The others includes:

  • Arctic Monkeys
  • Red Hot Chilli Peppers
  • Freddie Gibbs
  • The Backstreet Boys
  • Joey Bada$$

ICE CUBE 2023 Australian tour

In a holy union of Hip-Hop, legendary rap banners Ice Cube, Cypress Hill and The Game have announced an additional show in Melbourne on Wednesday 22 March, after the first date has sold out. The tour will now kick off on Wednesday 22 March at Rod Laver Arena for two nights before the iconic lineup hits the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney and Brisbane Entertainment Centre.

Event-goers will see large scale, next level production from those among the greatest names in Hip-Hop. The acts have graced the world’s largest stages, from Coachella to Rock The Bells and Once Upon a Time in L.A, and are bringing that energy down under.

O’Shea Jackson Sr., AKA Ice Cube, is an American rapper, actor, and filmmaker. His lyrics on N.W.A’s 1988 album Straight Outta Compton were instrumental in gangsta rap’s widespread popularity, and his politically-driven solo albums AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted, Death Certificate, and The Predator gained critical and commercial success. In addition to his perhaps equally iconic career in film, Ice Cube’s musical victories saw him inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of N.W.A. in 2016.

This is Ice Cube’s first show in the country since making history in 2018 by being the first ever rap artist to headline at the Sydney Opera House, also aligning with the 30th anniversary of his 1993 album, Lethal Injection.

“I love performing in Australia. It’s been four long years since my last visit and I can’t wait to return for a couple of history-making shows in 2023,” says Mr Cube.

As their music captivated millions of listeners, Cypress Hill earned fans around the world thanks to theirriveting stage show. The California rap group ushered in a genre-shifting sonic tapestry, performed thousands of shows at a time when rappers were having a hard time getting booked for live gigs, and helped pave the way for rappers to use Spanish in their rhymes.

Along the way, Cypress Hill earned a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, sold more than 9 million albums, and were nominated for three Grammy Awards. Another anniversary, 2023 will be 30 years since the crew released their album, Black Sunday, which features, ‘Hits from the Bong,’ and ‘I Ain’t Goin’ Out Like That.’

Completing the killer lineup is double-platinum artist The Game. Emerging in the early 2000s as one of the rawest voices on the West Coast scene, combining intense autobiographical narratives and a creatively referential approach to hip-hop that has justified his stage name. The international hip-hop heavyweights will be joined by exciting homegrown Australian talent, still to be announced.

Live Review: Ice Cube, Cypress Hill and AB Original rock Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena (26.03.23)

ice cube australia tour 2023 sydney

Ice Cube’s reputation as one of the signature artists of hip hop and an architect of the culture is not up for debate. The famously barbed and politically-charged emcee played a significant part in solidifying hip-hop as a vehicle for sweeping cultural commentary, change and documentation throughout the 90s. Hence, an Ice Cube concert is more than just another headline gig from a legendary Golden Era rapper.

It’s an insightful look into the career of a man who has pushed hip-hop in necessary and dramatic ways. Much like Kanye West, JAY Z, Eminem or fellow NWA founder Dr Dre, Cube is responsible for a large slice of DNA that has gone on to influence rappers throughout history.

Case in point: Briggs.

The Indigenous rapper has long been seen as lightning rode and a fierce commentator on some of Australia’s most important cultural conversations. Along with equally adept emcee Trials, they form the first support act of the evening: AB Original.

Truth by told, I wasn’t too excited by The Game’s inclusion on this line up of hip hop legends, so AB Original stepping in to replace the last-minute drop-out was some nice news. The comparison I made between Briggs and Ice Cube is no accident, and this is felt most heavily with the caustic “Bad Apples,” contextualising pain and rebellion in the face of unscrupulous authorities and oppression. Briggs’ delivery is forceful and completely appropriate for the tune’s seismic riff, matching the pace of AB’s other bangers which fit well with Cube’s foray – we’re talking the West Coast inspired bounce of “January 26” to the volcanic thump of “2 Black 2 Strong.”

Then it was on to Cypress Hill, a group that could have easily headlined the entire night based on reputation alone. Much like Cube, Cypress Hill have been out to Australia many times before and has always managed to put on muscular, memorable shows that quash any cries of irrelevancy.

Yes, the pioneering South Gate locals may lack the star power they once embodied but there’s no mistaking their vitality once loud, stadium-worthy jams like “Rock Superstar” and “Insane In The Brain” are elevated by a tight live band who know exactly how to fuse hip hop with big, powerful rock.

As for Cube. The headliner didn’t pull one of those overly indulgent moves and rely too heavily on medleys or fill the set list with Mount Rushmore songs (although a few from the excellent supergroup album would have gone a long way). Instead, Cube gave us a very greatest hits set, much like he did the past few times I’ve seen him out here.

And that says a lot.

For an artist to really sync with their legacy and enjoy performing old songs for new fans is really rare to see. Cube relishes in his older material in a way a hardcore fan would be immensely satisfied with. Songs like “Wicked” and “What Can I Do?” were pleasant surprises, as was “Friday” and racous opener “Natural Born Killaz.”

The weakest moments were the more mainstream ones. “Why We Thugs” was always one of Cube’s weakest hits and only really popular amongst those who would ride around Parramatta blasting “How We Do” in the mid-2000s, wearing gang colours and awkwardly throwing up sets despite having never even set foot in L.A. “You Can Do It,” as timeless as it is, felt squashed towards the end of the set and more obligatory than anything else. The absence of anything from Cube’s iconic debut album, AmeriKKKas Most Wanted was defeating and not even signature song “The N**ga Ya Love To Hate” was on the set list.

There were others. “Gangster Rap Made Me Do It” represents Cube in his more tired years, as does the lazy “Aint Got No Haters.” These are songs which could have made way for some of the aforementioned or deeper cuts like “When Will They Shoot?” or “I Rep That West” (one of the better songs from his latter career).

Furthermore, although it has been 30 years since Lethal Injection , only three songs from Cube’s fourth studio album were included on the set list. There was “Bop Gun” of course and also “You Know How We Do It” and “What Can I Do?” I imagine the latter wouldn’t have made the cut if its album wasn’t celebrating a milestone, but the other two are signature Cube songs. I would have imagined some deeper cuts from the album like “Down For Whatever” or “Ghetto Bird.”

And yet, it’s hard not to be completely satisfied with Cube’s set. This is a man who’s always going to be welcome on stage by any discerning hip hop fan, whether that at the more intimate Sydney Opera House or the overbearing Qudos Bank Arena.

MADCAP Global Entertainment

Hip hop heavyweight Ice Cube leads a contingent of West Coast legends on an Australian tour next March.

Ice Cube unites with Cypress Hill and The Game in an unmissable triple-headliner hitting Melbourne, Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane.

Promising large-scale production, the shows will see three of the biggest names in hip hop grace the stage to perform iconic hits from their extensive catalogues.

Born O’Shea Jackson Sr in 1969, Ice Cube helped develop the West Coast rap scene in the late ‘80s as a member of N.W.A. and is a leading progenitor of gangsta rap, owing to his immense lyrical contributions on the group’s 1988 album ‘Straight Outta Compton’.

By the early ’90s Ice Cube had embarked on a solo career, releasing his debut ‘AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted’ in 1990, which courted further contempt and controversy for its lyrics.

Throughout subsequent releases, Ice Cube solidified his reputation as an unapologetic truth-teller holding up a harsh mirror against the ills and injustices of society.

Among his massive swag of hits and classics, Ice Cube is perhaps best-known for urban hymns ‘It Was A Good Day’ and ‘Check Yo Self’.

Ice Cube has also maintained a prolific film career since the ‘90s, debuting as Doughboy in John Singleton’s ‘Boyz N The Hood’. He’s also turned his hand to filmmaking, co-writing and producing the cult favourite ‘Friday’ series.

Alongside Ice Cube, Cypress Hill played a pivotal role in defining the West Coast scene with a string of iconic hits throughout the ‘90s, including ‘Insane In The Brain’, ‘How I Could Just Kill A Man’, ‘Dr Greenthumb’ and ‘When The Shit Goes Down’.

The Game is a Compton native who came to prominence in the early 2000s with his full-length debut album ‘The Documentary’. Representing a new generation, The Game injected gangsta rap with new credibility due to his former involvement in the violent Crips and Bloods gang feud.

A.B. Original added to Ice Cube and Cypress Hill arena tour

Briggs and Trials from A.B. Original leaning on the hood of a Chevrolet

  • X (formerly Twitter)

A.B. Original , the multi-award winning hip hop powerhouse comprised of Briggs and Trials are a last minute addition to the forthcoming Ice Cube and Cypress Hill arena tour, which kicks off in Melbourne tomorrow night.

This is a rare outing for the duo, who have only performed a handful of shows over the past few years, most recently hitting arenas in support of Aussie hip hop heavyweights Hilltop Hoods.

A.B. Original have been making new music as they look to follow up the release of their instant classic debut Reclaim Australia , which won just about every award worth winning after its release in 2016.

"It was the most passion-felt passion project ever," Trials told Double J about their debut album last year . "Everything we wanted to say at the time, and then some."

It appears as though the duo are a last-minute replacement for Californian heavy hitter The Game, who has disappeared from all promotion of the event.

Double J has approached the show promoters for comment on the line-up change.

One of the biggest hip hop events of the year is coming, as Ice Cube , Cypress Hill , and The Game   [Ed: The Game is no longer coming to Australia] today announce four massive shows to happen in Australian arenas early next year.

It's an all-out showcase of hip hop royalty, featuring three artists who've not just sold a hell of a lot of records, they've made a genuine impact on the art form through their work.

UPDATE:  The first Melbourne date has sold out, so the full line-up will play a second show at Rod Laver Arena on Wednesday 22 March. Scroll down for all the dates.

Ice Cube was one of the major players in perhaps the most legendary hip hop group of all time, N.W.A.

It was his rhymes that brought gangsta rap to the mainstream and showed the world the realities of life for a man like him on the streets of South Central.

He's had an enormous solo career since leaving N.W.A. in 1989, making classic records like 1990's AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted , 1991's Death Certificate , and 1993's Lethal Injection , which celebrates its 30th anniversary next year.

Add in his work on films like Friday , Boyz n The Hood and Three Kings , to name just a few, and Ice Cube's huge standing in modern popular culture becomes very apparent.

These will be his first Australian shows since 2018 when he played a string of sold out, history making shows at the Sydney Opera House, and took some time to tell us about the music that has meant so much to him throughout his life.

Cypress Hill have sold more than nine million albums. Not that record sales are any indication of the quality of artistic output, you just have to show respect for such mammoth popularity.

What's more important is the trio's incredible string of records and their always hugely entertaining live shows. Sen Dog and B Real were two of the most distinctive, game-changing rappers of the 90s and their work continues to hit hard today.

With classics like 'Insane In The Brain', 'Hits From The Bong', 'How I Could Just Kill A Man', 'Rock Superstar' and many more, Cypress Hill are an absolute force.

Rounding out the bill is The Game , one of the most influential rappers of the 2000s whose 2005 debut The Documentary is now a bona fide classic, and who continues making great music to this day.

All three artists will play five shows while in Australia, kicking off in Melbourne then hitting arenas in Adelaide, Sydney and Brisbane.

There will be some Australian talent added to the line-up closer to the shows. We'll let you know when they're announced.

Here are the dates. Tickets are on sale from 1pm Wednesday 23 November.

Wednesday 22 March – Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne

Thursday 23 March – Rod Laver Arena, Melbourne [SOLD OUT]

Saturday 25 March – Adelaide Entertainment Centre

Sunday 26 March – Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney

American rapper The Game has pulled out of his Australian tour with Ice Cube and Cypress Hill .

The news was announced via an email to ticketholders overnight, stating that The Game is no longer able to make the tour due to “last minute commitments”, though concrete details were not shared.

The Game has yet to comment on the last-minute cancellation of the tour.

The tour’s organisers have also announced a replacement for The Game in the form of rap duo A.B. Original ( Briggs and Trials ) and DJ Total Eclipse. Briggs of A.B. Original said on Twitter: “Oh it aint over mfkr”.

The tour is set to kick off tomorrow, March 23 at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena before continuing to Adelaide Entertainment Centre on March 25. The tour will head to Sydney’s Qudos Bank Arena the following evening, wrapping up at Brisbane Entertainment Centre on March 28.

This marks the latest instance in which The Game – real name Jayceon Terrell Taylor – has cancelled a tour of Australia. The Game hasn’t toured Australia in more than a decade, last performing in the country in 2011. He was set to tour the region in 2017 before cancelling it a week before it was slated to kick off. He was similarly set to tour Australia in 2013 before cancelling the tour hours before it was supposed to begin.

The upcoming tour marks Ice Cube’s first Australian shows since 2018. It will also be Cypress Hill’s first Australian shows since late 2014.
