The program works to ensure that participants pursue personal recovery goals, including employment, education, decreasing isolation at home, social skill development and basic living skills.  In addition, Journey House has incorporated an evidence- based employment/education model of Individual Placement and Support IPS.

Journey Home

Christopher Houlston’s short drama “Journey Home” had me in tears. It tells the story of a soldier who came home to his wife but silently battles the emotional and mental trauma, also known as PTSD, that he endured during his service. Conflicted to tell his wife of his suffering, it starts to deteriorate their communication and relationship. But little did his wife know that there is more to just the trauma of the war that has been troubling the thoughts of her husband. The climax of the film is very emotional. Kudos to lead actor Mike Bodie for a heartfelt and excellent performance.

The Dopamine Response Is What Causes PTSD And/OR Complex PTSD AKA The "Fight, Flight, Fawn, & Freeze" Responses To Triggers of Trauma, AKA "Flashbacks". Complex PTSD Is One Of The Most Difficult Disorders To Heal, BUT We Have Watched THOUSANDS of Women & Girls Heal From & Overcome Trauma Since Our Opening In 2014.

Our Work Within The HOPE Prison Mentoring Program Has Helped Reduce Recidivism Rates In The Utah State Prison From 2014 to 2020, Disrupting The Sexual Abuse & Trauma To Prison Pipelines, Until The Pandemic Forced Us To "Hit Pause" On The Program. BUT We Are Now Re-Starting The HOPE Prison Mentoring Program, & We Are Currently Training NEW Volunteer Mentors! Our Organization helped reduce recidivism rates in the Utah State Prison from 2014 - 2019, to just 17%, with our HOPE Prison Mentoring Program, which focuses on Mentoring Prisoners who are being released and re-entering Society. We provide nurturing, support, and Case Management Services, while helping each Prisoner plan for re-entry. Making sure they have Housing in place, food, clothing, & after-care support, while assisting them in building a solid foundation for themselves so they can successfully complete Parole and/or Probation and have stable, successful, and balanced lives.

Water-Based Cremation

Aquamation is a gentle water-based process known as alkaline hydrolysis that is an eco-friendly alternative to flame cremation and burial.  Alkaline hydrolysis is the process that occurs as part of nature's course when a body is laid to rest in the soil.  A combination of water flow, temperature, and alkalinity (95% water and 5% alkali) are used to accelerate nature's process.

Aquamation is an environmentally friendly technology.  There are no direct emissions of harmful greenhouse gases, no burning of fossil fuels, and it's non-toxic.  With aquamation, all organic material is reduced to its most basic building blocks.  The sterile process water is released for recycling, and only the bone minerals remain.  

The family receives about 20% more cremains (ash remains) back compared to traditional flame-based cremation. Both private and communal services are available using Aquamation.  Private cremation means your pet will go into their own individual compartment within the aquamation machine, and your pet's cremains will be returned to you.  A communal cremation means your pet will not be separated from other pets.  And your pet's cremains will not be returned to you.  However, Dr. Jessica Smith and her family will respectfully spread the communal cremains.

‘It’s been amazing’: 40-pound cat loses more than half his body weight after finding new home

RICHMOND, Va. ( WWBT /Gray News) - It’s been about a year since Patches took social media by storm.

The once hefty 40-plus-pound cat is now living a slimmer and healthier life after being adopted last year.

“When you look at them in the face and they look at you, and you say to yourself I can’t imagine them being anywhere else, it makes me emotional,” said Patches’ owner Kay Ford.

According to Ford, she will never forget when she first met Patches.

“I just feel a very special bond with him,” she said.

Patches was a whopping 42 pounds when Ford adopted him from Richmond Animal Care and Control.

The animal shelter team said he was the most giant cat they’d ever seen.

Ford said she immediately got to work helping Patches lose his extra weight.

“It’s very easy to give into the begging,” Ford said. “But if they know that you’re not going to give in, they stop, or at least Patches is like that.”

These days, Patches looks a little different and Ford’s new lifestyle for him has made a difference.

Patches currently weighs just a little more than 16 pounds.

“He goes up and down the steps,” Ford said. “I really attribute it to his partnership with Wellesley [Ford’s other cat], his connection with Wellesley because that’s a lot.”

But this is not the end of Patches’ weight loss journey.

Ford hopes Patches can drop another 6 pounds through diet, exercise and determination.

“His first goal was to get to 20 pounds,” Ford said. “It’s been amazing. He has consistently lost weight every single week.”

Patches’ weight loss journey has also inspired other pet owners to make their pets a little bit healthier as his social media page has grown to nearly 50,000 followers.
