Fantastic day out enjoyed by all. Would definitely recommend. Will go again, great work team!

Absolutely amazing, I wouldn’t go anywhere else for well lead, interesting and authentic Cypriot tours.

Thank you so much for this great experience. The girls and I had a fantastic time. Our tour guide Tas was exceptionally funny. Even with his corny jokes. He made our day. Our only regret was not having enough time to do a few other tours. But will be back and definitely will be recommending you. Thank you.

Couldn’t recommend this company enough, I saw some of the most beautiful places ❤️ will definitely be coming back and using them. Thank you for making my Cyprus holiday more memorable x

Friendly service, would defo recommend and use again xxx

What can I say, from start to finish a first class friendly service.

The best service for tours. Absolutely brilliant day and our guide was very professional, knowledgeable and such a great guy! Many thanks, I’m still smiling. I cannot recommend highly enough and I’ll definitely use A D S again.

15 Wonderful Day Excursions from Paphos, Cyprus

15 Wonderful Day Excursions from Paphos, Cyprus

Paphos is a popular destination in Cyprus. The sunny, seaside city is close to an international airport and offers plenty to keep you happy whether it’s ancient history, glorious beaches or authentic places to eat.

Its proximity to some of the island’s most beautiful sites makes it a fantastic base to explore more of Cyprus too.

So, if you’re looking for day excursions from Paphos, you’re in luck. I’ve put together a list of some of my favourite places to visit on the island and the easiest ways to reach them.

Don’t worry if you don’t drive. Most of these trips can be done without a car, which is a win for sustainable travel too!

From UNESCO-certified villages to the birthplace of a goddess, discover 15 wonderful day trips from Paphos, Cyprus.

Map of the day excursions from Paphos

Be amazed at avakas gorge .

Narrow limestone rock formations creating a tunnel known as the Avakas Gorge in Paphos.

Avakas Gorge is one of the best day excursions from Paphos.

A true natural gem, it was formed by a stream which wore through the limestone rock over thousands of years, creating 30-metre-high walls and rock formations.

You can hike the 10.6km circular nature trail and spot amazing native flora such as the endemic centauria akamantis plant and wildlife including hares, lizards and falcons.

One important thing to note, parts of the trail are rated difficult as some of the rock formations are narrow and slippery. Sturdy footwear is advised.

The gorge is about a 40-minute drive up the coast to the beginning of the Akamas Peninsula.

If you would prefer to step your Paphos day excursion up a notch, I recommend travelling to Avakas Gorge in a 4×4 like this highly-rated Jeep safari tour.

The tour includes a trip to the stunning baths of Aphrodite’s Grotto and Lara Bay Turtle Conservation. It also includes sea caves, a shipwreck and a wine tasting.

The small group tour is very popular so book it in advance to avoid disappointment!

Visit Lara Bay Turtle Conservation

A golden sandy beach curved around with foothills inland and clear blue waters of Lara Bay in Cyprus.

If you’re a wildlife lover then Lara Bay Turtle Conservation Station is a must-visit.

Located about 27 minutes by car from Paphos as you had towards Akamas Peninsula, Lara Bay is a secluded beach dedicated to nesting and hatching turtles.

The conservation team is run by the State Department of Forests and Fishery, and it works to ensure that baby turtles hatch and make it to the sea successfully.

The best time to visit is between mid-May to August when turtles lay their eggs and the babies hatch. All nests are protected and you can only access the beach on foot so that you don’t disturb them.

Explore Omodos Village

Traditional lace cloths hung up around a doorway surrounded by plants in Omodos Village, Cyprus.

Omodos is a pretty UNESCO-certified mountain village about an hour’s drive from Paphos.

It’s one of the most popular Cypriot villages but don’t let that put you off! It was a top favourite place of mine when I visited Cyprus. I loved exploring its labyrinth of cobblestone streets and picturesque cottages.

Plenty of opportunities for souvenir shopping can be found in its many artisan shops too.

You’ll spend a happy few hours browsing tables laden with sweets, glassware, fresh bread, homemade arts and crafts, and lace.

Make sure you have a look at the True Cross Monastery, one of the island’s oldest historic monasteries. It’s also thought to be the home of the True Cross.

Rather not drive? This tour combines a trip to Omodos with Kykkos Monastery and the highest village in the Troodos Mountains.

It also includes a stop at Paphos Forest, and you have a chance to enjoy the views across the island at Throni.

Sample the wine at Oenou Yi Winery

Views of vineyards and a village nestled among the foothills of the Troodos Mountains at Oenou Yi Winery.

A couple of minutes’ walk from Omodos Villas is Oenou Yi Winery, a contemporary winery overlooked by Mount Olympus.

It was founded in 2017 so it’s relatively new but it’s helmed by a tenth-generation winemaker so I can attest that the wine is pretty great.

I did a tour of the winery before stopping off at the tasting room where a good few wines were sampled. I finished off the tasting with a shot of Zivania, a Cypriot pomace brandy.

My absolute favourite thing about Oenou Yi Winery isn’t actually the wine, but the restaurant terrace.

As you go through two enormous glass doors, you’re greeted by panoramic views of the Troodos Mountains and Omodos nestled among vineyards.

It’s a pretty spectacular choice if you’re looking for day excursions from Paphos with incredible views!

Enjoy a leisurely day at Tochni Village

Tochni Tavern view for Cyprus itinerary. Pink flowers surround a terrace with a view of Tochni village on the hill opposite.

With a history spanning more than ten or twenty centuries, Tochni is thought to be one of the oldest villages in Cyprus.

Many medieval houses made from traditional Cypriot stone still stand today. They’re protected under an agrotourism designation which aims to keep traditional Cypriot heritage alive in small rural communities.

The village is a fascinating higgledy-piggledy labyrinth of winding streets and ancient houses. One of the best things to do here is simply wander and see where the streets take you. Look out for the ruins of a Latin church in the village centre.

If you find yourself getting peckish, head to Tochni Tavern which has great views of the village and quite possibly the best halloumi around. Seriously, I couldn’t get enough of it!

Tochni is just over an hour’s drive from Paphos, between Limassol and Larnaca so it’s best enjoyed combined in a short one-day road trip along the south coast of Cyprus.

Feel the power of Millomeris Waterfall

Image of Millomeris Waterfall tumbling down rock into a pool below with a tree growing beside it in Cyprus.

Deep among the pine trees of the Troodos foothills is the village of Pano Platres. This quiet and unassuming village has three surprising stories to tell.

First, it was here that Daphne du Maurier planned and wrote some of the famous gothic novel, Rebecca.

Second, the Nobel prize winner for Literature, George Safaris also stayed here.

Third, it’s home to one of the tallest waterfalls in Cyprus – Millomeris Waterfall.

The waterfall is a spectacular sight hidden among the trees. Water tumbles down the side of a rock at a height of 15 metres into the pool below.

The best way to access it is via the Millomeris Waterfall Nature Trail which takes about 30 minutes to complete.

Why not combine Millomeris Waterfall with all the top sights of the local area on a small group day tour from Paphos?

This tour will take you to the 15th-century Venetian Bridge in an ethereal location surrounded by forest. You’ll also visit Omodos and the highest point of the Troodos Mountains.

Set sail in the Blue Lagoon

The coastline of the northern coast of the Akamas Peninsula with the clear blue waters of the Blue Lagoon in Cyprus.

Possibly one of the most famous day trips from Paphos is the Blue Lagoon. Found on the northern side of the Akamas Peninsula, the Blue Lagoon is characterized by a dazzling blue sea within a sheltered bay.

Both fairly shallow and warmer than the rest of the sea, it’s a perfect place for swimming and snorkelling. You can also find a remote yet beautiful beach which is only accessible by boat or a bumpy road which best suited to 4x4s.

Save yourself the stress of risking your car or rental vehicle by taking a tour that includes a three-hour boat ride in the Blue Lagoon instead.

This popular tour includes a wine tasting and a visit to Aphrodite’s Grotto before you set sail on the Blue Lagoon where you can relax and swim to your heart’s content.

Fall in love at Aphrodite’s Rock

Aphrodite's Rock in Cyprus, surrounded by blue sea.

If you know your Greek mythology, you’ll be familiar with Aphrodite the Goddess of Love. Legend has it that she was born on a rock which sits just offshore between Paphos and Limassol.

Known as Aphrodite’s Rock or Petra tou Romiou (Rock of the Roman), you can visit the rock today. It’s thought that any person who swims around it will be blessed with eternal beauty.

Whatever you believe, it’s a pretty sight and well worth a stop at Aphrodite’s Rock Viewpoint to look down at from the shore.

Alternatively, you can spend a leisurely few hours on the pebble beach which runs beside it.

One thing to note, the current was quite strong when I was there so just be careful if you’re thinking of swimming after that eternal beauty!

For non-drivers, this tour from Paphos includes a tip to Aphrodite’s Rock as well as the ancient Greek city of Kourion and Limassol Castle. This is a great excursion from Paphos for seeing the south coast of the island.

Tour the Troodos Mountain Villages

Agios Ioannis Lombadistis, a monastery in Kalopanayiotis. A road trip to the mountain villages is one of the best day excursions from Paphos, Cyprus you can do.

Cyprus’ mountain villages hold the keys to centuries of heritage and culture. Here, rural industries have been preserved for generations whether it’s crop cultivation, winemaking or handicrafts.

Many villages are members of Cyprus’ agritourism project which works to protect artisanal and agricultural businesses through tourism.

Discover the best villages to visit for halloumi, wineries, mezes and crafts in my guide to the Troodos Mountain villages.

Day trips from Paphos to the Troodos Mountains are tricky with public transport. If you don’t fancy driving, I recommend doing this top-rated tour.

A mix of culture and food, the tour picks you up from Paphos and takes you to villages such as Omodos and Lofou. Highlights include halloumi tasting and trying traditional wine at a local winery!

Eat around the island on a food tour

One of the best excursions from Paphos, Cyprus is a food tour of the island. In the image, two hands dig into a Greek salad with serving spoons next to bread and other side dishes sit on the table.

There’s no better way to get to know a place than through your stomach. Cyprus has some incredible culinary offerings from creamy halloumi to traditional sweet wine.

Explore the island’s mouth-watering heritage nestled within the Troodos Mountains on a small group food and wine tour.

One of the top Troodos tours from Paphos, you’ll be taken to five different product workshops, sample Cypriot delicacies and visit a winery.

To top it off, you’ll have lunch at a traditional village tavern where the meze platters will be rolling out non-stop.

If there’s one thing Cyprus knows how to do exceptionally well, it’s feeding you up on delicious food. Seriously, I definitely came back from my trip heavier but happier!

Editor’s tip: If you get the chance to try a local meze, my biggest advice to you would be don’t fill yourself up on the first few plates. Those plates just keep coming. Delicious, though!

Find the hidden Adonis Waterfalls

The sheltered Adonis Waterfalls, surrounded by trees and mossy rocks in Cyprus.

Add a little adventure to your Cyrus trip with a quad bike tour to the hidden Adonis Waterfalls. It’s the only place in Paphos where the water stays freezing cold all year round.

This secretive spot on the Akamas Peninsula is accessible by a rugged track which takes you past Coral Bay, the sea caves shipwreck and Lara Bay Turtle Conservation.

By the time you’ve ridden on the buggy and had a leisurely lunch you’ll want to cool off with a dip in the pools underneath Adonis Waterfall – so bring your swimwear on this Paphos day trip!

Discover new and ancient history at Choirokitia & Famagusta

Image of the crenellated towers of Othello Castle in Famagusta in Nothern Cyprus.

There’s one part of Cyprus I haven’t spoken about yet, Northern Cyprus, a territory under Turkish control.

Despite political tensions and a military presence, it’s safe. However, if you want to visit, I recommend going on a tour just to be sure. Plus, it’s pretty far if you’re attempting it as day excursions from Paphos on your own.

This full-day Choirokitia & Famagusta Guided Tour takes you from Paphos to the village of Choirokoitia for coffee and a chance to see one of the oldest and most important Neolithic settlements in the Eastern Mediterranean.

Next, it’s onwards to the United Nations Green Line and the ruins of the Kingdom of Salamis which date back to the 12th century BCE.

You’ll see the city of Famagusta with its Gothic churches and Venetian walls.

There will be some free time to explore here but don’t miss the guided walk to the Varosi Ghost Town to see abandoned houses which have been closed off since 1974.

Important: You’ll need a passport to cross the border to the Northern territory. Some nationalities need a visa too.

Visit the city of Limassol

Limassol from above next to the blue waters of the sea in Cyprus.

Just under an hour’s drive along the coast from Paphos is the city of Limassol.

It’s the second largest urban area on the island after Nicosia so it’s pretty built up. There are still some interesting sites and attractions that make it worth visiting.

History lovers should visit the centuries-old Limassol Castle which is now home to the Cyprus Medieval Museum. Limassol Old Town can be found in the heart of the city with its narrow streets and traditional markets.

Saripolou Square is the best place to go for coffee, cocktails and food – although it’s also the busiest neighbourhood in the city centre!

Find ancient history at Kourion Archaeological Site

Ancient Roman mosaics in the remains of a bathhouse in Kourion Archaeological Site in Cyprus.

Paphos excursions don’t get much better for history lovers than Kourion Archaeological Site.

Just under an hour’s drive from Paphos lies the remains of what was once one of Cyprus’ most important city-kingdoms.

Kourion was destroyed in an earthquake in 365 AD, but it’s home to some magnificent Greco-Roman structures such as the 2nd-century BCE amphitheatre and the House of Eustolios with 5th-century mosaics.

There’s also the House of Achilles, the House of the Gladiator and the remains of the Roman Agora all on the same site.

It’s well worth a visit if you’re interested in ancient history – plus the amphitheatre is still used today for concerts and performances!

The entrance fee is about €8.50 per person for a day pass.

Take an eco-friendly trip with Eco Tour Adventures

A stone cottage window with brown shutters surrounded by potted plants in Arsos Village, Cyprus.

If you’re keen to see the real Cyprus in an ethical way, I recommend booking a small group tour with Eco Tour Adventures.

The top-rated tour operator specialises in off-the-beaten-track adventures to sites that are normally inaccessible to commercial tourism.

Guides with 20+ years of experience drive its fleet of 4×4 cruisers and are passionate about Cypriot culture.

There are three day tours from Paphos you can do. Choose to cruise up the Akamas Peninsula, take a quiet dip in the Blue Lagoon or explore the villages of the Troodos Mountains.

Day excursions from Paphos final thoughts

Twin cottages in Tochni village, Cyprus with blue shutters and pink and white flowers.

Paphos is a fantastic base from which to explore Cyprus thanks to its proximity to historical sites, incredible beaches, traditional villages and wineries.

Day trips from Paphos are a lot easier if you have your own car as public transport isn’t particularly reliable on the island. However, you can still enjoy these excursions in a sustainable way by opting to do a small group tour instead.

The Treasures of Cyprus Tour

The Treasures of Cyprus

Cyprus is an amazing country and I was glad I was able to visit it. Booking the tour through Tourradar was quite easy and even though I had not heard of Cyprus Incoming Tour before, I booked this tour because of Tourradar. Overall, the tour was good and our group had 8 people with half of them from Spain. So, the tour guide, George, explained everything in both Spanish and English. I was impressed with all the sites, especially the occupied Northern Cyprus, which was eye-opening to see the tension and see all the occupying forces. I gave the tour 4 stars instead of 5 stars because there were a few issues, which could be improved in future offerings of this tour. First, another tour member and I who booked this tour through Tourradar were booked for only 5 nights at the Best Western Plus hotel in Laranaca even though the tour itinerary clearly said the tour included 7 night hotel accommodation. When I checked in at the hotel, the hotel reception staff said the reservation was only for 5 nights and didn't know what would happen for the remaining 2 nights. I messaged Cyprus Incoming through Tourradar and they promptly acknowledged the mistake, and said they would resolve it. I didn't know Cyprus Incoming had subcontracted the tour to another company called OLTA Travel, which had to correct the issue. In the meantime, when I checked with the hotel staff 2 days later, one of the staff at the front desk was very abrupt and said the reservation was only for 5 nights and there were no rooms available for the remaining 2 nights. This caused a lot of anxiety and concern, but eventually the hotel accommodation was extended for 7 nights. There were 2 other members of the tour group, who were booked in another hotel 25 kms away, which delayed the tour each day by half hour or more as the tour bus had to pick them up first and then drive to our hotel. So, the hotel accommodation issue must be resolved in future tours, and those who book the tours must be clearly informed that Cyprus Incoming organizes the tour through OLTA Travel. Best Western Plus is a good hotel but its location in the middle of a residential area instead of near the city center was not ideal. One had to walk at least 15 to 20 minutes to get to the city center. Second, the tour guide George was good but if he emails or uses Whatsapp as other tour companies do to inform the tour group what the next day's itinerary would be, what to bring, what to wear (as some in the group couldn't enter a famous mosque because they were wearing shorts and sleeveless shirts), lunch is included or not, approximately at what time we would return back to the hotel, etc., it would be very helpful. Some tour group members get nauseated on long bus rides and so including information on how long the ride before a stop would be very helpful. Also, a brief overview of the country on the first day will help the group orient itself to the tour better. Third, if the lunch duration is shortened and the time is used for seeing more sites, it would be great as some of us may not return again to the same country to see one or two important places. I really wanted to see the mosaics in Paphos but we didn't as we spent nearly 2 hours at lunch. Fourth, we had a leisure day but there were no recommendations on what we could see on our own, how to get the transportation, etc. It would have been nice to be given a list of options not covered by the tour itinerary. Overall, the tour was good and Cyprus is a wonderful country to visit. It has a lot of history, interesting sites to visit, beautiful beaches to enjoy, and if the mentioned issues could be addressed, this tour would be excellent.

Are you wondering where to go in Cyprus? Well, follow this detailed Cyprus itinerary to ensure that you plan the perfect trip and get the most out of this fascinating island nation.

This Mediterranean country has so much to offer visitors and it is very much worth exploring. From historic and divided cities to ancient archaeological sites to beautiful beaches and charming mountain villages, Cyprus may just have it all.

Combine all of this with some of the best year-round weather in Europe and incredibly hospitable people and Cyprus may just be the ideal place to visit if you’re after a Mediterranean adventure.

Table of Contents

Best Time to Visit Cyprus

Located in the southeastern Mediterranean and blessed with over 300 days of sunshine every year, it can seem like there may not ever be a bad time to visit Cyprus.

Its perennially warm and sunny climate is certainly attractive to those looking to escape the dreary winter months on mainland Europe and its endless sandy coastline is great for those looking to work on their tans no matter what time of year it is.

Though the nation rarely sees cold and rainy weather, many would-be visitors planning a trip to Cyprus still want to know when is the best time of year to travel to this country.

It’s true that temperatures in Cyprus — especially in the more popular tourist areas — will rarely dip below 17 or 18°C (62-64°F), meaning that there isn’t really a bad time to visit, especially if you’re planning your trip to Cyprus outside of the hot summer months. However, there are still some times of year that are arguably better to visit than others.

The summer months of June-August is the most popular time of year to visit Cyprus. This is also the time of year that experiences the highest temperatures.

If you like hot weather and don’t mind fighting your way through tourist crowds, then this might be a good time of year to visit. You can, however, expect temperatures to reach well over 30°C (86°F) every single day, with the capital city of Nicosia and the central part of Cyprus experiencing an average high temperature of 38°C (100°F).

While most places are air-conditioned inside, visiting Cyprus in the height of summer may not be the best idea if you’re sensitive to the heat.

A far better solution for those looking for some warmth and sunshine without increasing their risk of heatstroke is to visit in the shoulder season months of March-May and September-November.

These months are still very warm and sunny but tend not to see as high of temperatures as the summer months. Crowds also tend to be fewer during the shoulder season, meaning that you will likely find more accommodation availability and allow for a bit more flexibility in your trip.

The average high temperature in March-May is about 22°C (72°F), making it perfect for spending some lazy days outside and enjoying the beautiful scenery. It is worth noting that water temperatures can still be a bit chilly, however, so this may not be the best time of year to visit if you want to do a lot of swimming.

Conversely, the average high temperature in the months of September-November tends to be a bit warmer, clocking in at 25°C (77°F). Sea temperatures are at their warmest all year, as well, meaning that it is incredibly comfortable to go for a swim in the Mediterranean.

The autumn also sees fewer average days of rain than the spring, meaning that this is likely the ideal time to visit Cyprus.

How Many Days in Cyprus?

Despite its apparent small size, there are a surprising amount of things to see and do on this island nation and if you want to fully enjoy it, you’re going to need to devote a proper amount of time to exploring Cyprus.

That is why I would say to plan to spend at least one week in Cyprus in order to enjoy both the seaside and the history of this lovely and complex nation.

Planning for a full 7 days in Cyprus will allow you to get to all of the main sites and explore a few of its dynamic cities, while also allowing you ample time to lounge on the beach and catch some rays.

If you don’t have as long as a week in Cyprus, it is possible to get a lot of out of the nation in just about 5 days, however, you will need to make some sacrifices depending on your holiday priorities.

If you have more time, I would say that 10 days in Cyprus might be the ideal amount of time to spend, however, it is a long stint and you can still get just as much out of the country in a week.

While you will certainly be able to occupy yourself no matter how many days you spend in Cyprus, really the ideal amount of time to spend here is one week. As mentioned earlier, this will allow you to get the most out of this island nation while still giving you time to chill out and enjoy the seaside vibes.

Getting Around Cyprus

Unfortunately for those who like to like to forgo the car rental and rely on public transit when travelling, Cyprus isn’t the most friendly of destinations for those who don’t want to drive.

There is a bus system that will connect the biggest cities and can effectively get you from Larnaca to Nicosia or from Paphos to Limassol , however, this is pretty much the extent of it.

If you want to venture out and explore some of the most interesting and cultural places on the island of Cyprus independently, it is incredibly difficult and sometimes impossible to do this while relying on public transit. Therefore, if you are an independent traveller planning a Cyprus itinerary, it is more or less necessary to hire a car while visiting the island nation.

Road quality is good and driving in Cyprus is relatively easy , however, there are some unpaved roads that lead to some popular attractions like the Adonis Baths and Lara Beach. While you could drive on these with a normal car (we did), it might make you more comfortable to rent a car with 4WD. Keep in mind that they drive on the left-hand side in Cyprus.

If you want to cut down on your overall Cyprus trip cost , however, this isn’t altogether necessary. We, for instance, had no problem driving all over Cyprus in just a simple economy rental.

If you plan to rent a car in Cyprus, you can browse options here to compare prices across many different car hire companies. Alternatively, you can browse Localrent to rent from smaller companies or private individuals.

It can also be a good idea to take out an excess insurance policy with iCarHireInsurance in order to save on any high deductibles the rental company might charge should any damage happen to your car.

Finally, have you considered taking out travel insurance for your trip to Cyprus?  World Nomads   offers flexible and simple travel insurance policies with coverage for more than 150 activities that you can buy or extend while on the road.

7 Days in Cyprus Itinerary

Now that I’ve covered all of the essential information that you need to know before planning your itinerary, it’s time to finally discuss where to go in Cyprus.

This is written as a Cyprus road trip itinerary and it would be fairly difficult to do and see everything that you could without having your own car. Though the itinerary begins in Nicosia, you could easily begin it in any of the cities mentioned depending on where it is you fly into.

Day 1 – Nicosia

Whether you arrive in Cyprus via Larnaca or Paphos airport, we recommend properly beginning your route in the underappreciated capital, Nicosia.

Though its located in the centre of the island and there is a distinct lack of coastline, Nicosia is an absolutely fascinating and dynamic city that is 100% worth visiting, especially if you want to gain a better understanding the history and culture of Cyprus.

Nicosia is the last divided capital in Europe and there are two distinct sides to this historic. Like the rest of this itinerary, the majority of your time will be spent in the southern part of the city, which is officially part of the internationally recognised and EU member state the Republic of Cyprus.

The northern part of the city, located on the other side of the Green Line, is considered the capital of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, which is only recognised as its own country by Turkey.

Though Nicosia is the largest city and the capital of Cyprus, you can see a lot of what it has to offer in just one or two days. Spend your time exploring the historic sights and venturing into its many museums.

Spend your first day simply wandering around the Greek side of Nicosia and taking in all of the fantastic sites to see. Wander along Ledra Street, visit the Levatis Museum, see some of the historic sites, enjoy some delicious Cypriot cuisine and simply enjoy the energy of this bustling city.

Where to Stay in Nicosia

Asty Hotel – This centrally located hotel is situated within easy walking distance of all the top attractions in Nicosia’s old town. They have a number of clean and comfortable rooms available — all equipped with air conditioning to help you escape from the heat!

MAP Boutique Hotel  – This locally-run boutique is another great option if you’re looking for a chic place to stay in the Cypriot capital. Conveniently located within walking distance of all main attractions, there are numerous comfortable rooms available and breakfast is included in the nightly rate.

Nex Hostel  – If you’re a solo or budget traveller, then this hostel is a great choice for you! They are centrally located close to everything that Nicosia has to offer, they have great common areas making it easy to connect with other travellers, and they have a range of both private and dorm rooms available.

Day 2 – Nicosia

We also recommend spending at least part of your time in Nicosia in the Turkish side of the city.

You can easily walk across the border and explore the historic sites of North Nicosia in a few hours — just keep in mind that you will need to bring your passport with you (you will not, however, get a stamp) and that they use the Turkish Lira as currency rather than the Euro.

Plan to spend a good portion of your second day in Nicosia exploring the northern part of the city – there is a lot to see over here and it’s well worth exploring.

It’s also an excellent idea to walk along the Green Line in the southern part of the city afterwards – both of these activities can really solidify how divided Nicosia really is.

End your day cooling off with a local craft beer – Pivo Microbrewery is and excellent option in the city!

There are numerous cool and interesting things to do in Nicosia and the city sees a fraction of the tourists that the coastal cities of Cyprus do. If you want to enjoy the dynamic energy of the Cypriot capital while getting a bit further off the beaten path, then no itinerary is complete without a bit of time spent in Nicosia.

nicosia border crossing

Day 3 – Paphos

After spending the first part of your itinerary in the capital of Nicosia, it’s time to head to the coast with a few days in the historic city of Paphos.

Located in the southwest of the island, Paphos is known as the historic birthplace of the Greek goddess of love and beauty, Aphrodite (though the Greek island of Kythira also claims this), and is blessed with both a beautiful coastline and numerous fascinating historic sites.

There are so many things to do in Paphos that you could easily occupy your entire time in Cyprus, however, three days should be sufficient to both see a lot of cool things while also allowing you plenty of time to relax by the Mediterranean.

It takes about 2 hours to drive from Nicosia to Paphos, but consider taking the route through the Troodos Mountains and visiting some of the villages, wineries and monasteries along the way. For instance, the Kykkos Monastery is well worth visiting and it’s never a bad idea to explore the village of Omodos.

This is the most convenient way to explore the surroundings of Paphos before seeing the sites that the city itself has to offer.

Where to Stay in Paphos

Casa Mespilea – Centrally located and locally run, this small hotel is a great option for travellers who are keeping an eye on their budget while visiting Cyprus. They have many comfortable and clean rooms available (equipped with air conditioning!) and a hearty buffet breakfast is included in the room rate.

Pyramos Hotel – This boutique hotel is the perfect place if you’re looking for a romantic getaway in Paphos. They have several comfortable rooms available, an inviting lounge, and it is located within the centre of old Paphos. Breakfast is also included in the nightly rate.

Anemi Hotel & Suites – This is a great option if you’re after a luxury hotel during your time in Paphos. They are located on the sea within spitting distance of the beach, they also have numerous other amenities like a swimming pool, spa, and fitness centre.

Private Rental – A private rental is a great option in Paphos — and elsewhere in Cyprus — if you would rather have your own space such as this ground floor apartment.

Kykkos Monastery

Day 4 – Paphos

Plan to spend your first full day in Paphos exploring both the old town of Paphos and some of the nearby ancient ruins.

Some of the must-see historic sites include the incredible Tombs of the Kings and the stunning Hellenistic mosaics and monuments at the Kato Paphos Archaeological Park. The entire town of Paphos is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the history to explore here is incredibly rich and fascinating.

Both the Tombs of the Kings and the Archaeological Park take several hours to explore on their own, so this is a great activity to devote to your second day here.

The Tombs of the Kings

Day 5 – Paphos

Spend your final day in Paphos enjoying the gorgeous seaside of the city and its surrounding area.

If you’re more interested in natural scenery, then make sure to drive up to the Akamas Peninsula where you can go for a hike along the coast and cliffs, have a swim at a secluded beach or take a boat trip to the Blue Lagoon.

Just a bit south lies Lara Beach, where you can sometimes spot baby sea turtles depending on the season.

One of the most beautiful natural and historical sites near Paphos is Aphrodite’s Rock (Petra tou Romiou), said to be the place where the eponymous goddess was born from the sea foam. You can have a swim in the beautiful location free of charge, as well. Paphos leans hard into being the birthplace of Aphrodite and it’s a great pace to visit.

Aphrodite's Rock

Day 6 – Larnaca

The final stop on this 7-day Cyprus itinerary is in the third-largest city of Larnaca. This is a logical last stop on your route as Larnaca is home to the largest airport on the island.

Larnaca is a pretty small city and most of the sites and attractions can be seen in one day, however, we recommend spending one of the two days mentioned here enjoying all of the cool attractions that are located on the drive from Paphos to Larnaca. Stopping by places like the Kourion Archaeological Site, Kolossi Castle, Kalymnos Beach, and many others.

Once in Larnaca, you can occupy yourself by wandering through the picturesque old town and taking in the Church of St Lazarus and the energy of the beach promenade.

You can also venture a bit from the city centre to see the Larnaca Salt Lake (which is home to migratory flamingoes in the winter months!) and the Hala Sultan Tekke Mosque.

Where to Stay in Larnaca

Mikes Kanarium City Hotel – This mid-range hotel is an excellent option for those on a middle-of-the-road budget. Centrally located close to both the beach and the city centre, they have a range of clean and comfortable rooms available and a great breakfast included in the nightly rate.

Les Palmiers Beach Boutique Hotel – This boutique hotel is a great base if you’re looking for a chic and romantic accommodation option in Larnaca. They have an array of plush and comfortable rooms available, great amenities, and a great breakfast included in the room rate.

Church of Saint Lazarus in Larnaca

Day 7 – Larnaca

If you want to see some more of the incredible natural scenery that Cyprus has to offer, drive north to Ayia Napa (about 45 minutes from central Larnaca) and visit the stunning sea caves and marvel at the crystal clear waters.

Ayia Napa is a very popular resort area in Cyprus, but it is worth visiting as a day out from Larnaca due to the beautiful natural scenery you can explore.

For instance, along with the sea caves, take the time to visit Cape Greco National Park which is home to the Kamara Tou Koraka arch, a gorgeous arch in the Mediterranean.

End your time in Cyprus back in Larnaca, having one last delicious Cypriot meal or enjoying a seaside cocktail if you wish.

Sea Caves in Ayia Napa

Have 10 Days in Cyprus?

If you have 10 days in Cyprus or just longer than a week, then you could easily extend your time in Paphos to see more of what the country has to offer.

If you’re interested in exploring more of the mountain village life, you could also spend a night or two in a family-run bed and breakfast in the Troodos Mountains.

While it isn’t recommended to drive there in a car rented in southern Cyprus, you could also elect to visit more of the northern part of the island. The ruins of Kyrenia and the seaside city of Famagusta are both popular tourist attractions, as are the many sandy beaches.

Regardless of how long you plan to spend in Cyprus, you are sure not to get bored!

Omodos Village

Planning an independent Cyprus itinerary doesn’t have to be a difficult task. There are so many interesting places to see and fun things to do on the island that there is absolutely no need to spend all of your time in an all-inclusive resort!

Day Trips from Larnaca without a Car

Last modified on June 14th, 2023 at 06:19

Cyprus is an island steeped in history and mythology. Known for being the legendary birthplace of the Greek Goddess, Aphrodite, the ‘Island of Love’ is home to sun-kissed shores and a rugged mountainous interior.

Cyprus is a country with natural beauty and cultural richness that is wholly disproportionate to its size. The country’s tumultuous and multilayered past has left ancient riches strewn across this island. Remnants of these archeological relics can still be seen today—littering wildflower-splashed mountainsides and overlooking azure seas.

During my six day Cyprus vacation, I took day trips from Larnaca to the far reaches of the island, packing my itinerary with some of the most beautiful destinations in the Mediterranean. My comprehensive six day Cyprus itinerary included many of the historical, natural and cultural gems that make the island a unique all-in-one destination.

Table of Contents

DAY TRIPS AROUND CYPRUS

While I used Larnaca as my home base, I spent the majority of my Cyprus itinerary exploring the country’s archeological sites and national parks. For an island its size, Cyprus has a remarkable number of places to see. The island features everything from verdant mountainous scenery to glistening sandy beaches.

Instead of spending my holiday on Larnaca’s beaches, I chose to use the city as a base and fill my week in Cyprus with five distinct day trips from Larnaca; one to Turkish-influenced North Cyprus and four to the southern half of the island.

The Kourion Ruins on the southern coast of Cyprus

Most tourism in Cyprus centers around beach-lounging and partying. As a result, traveling the island as a budget backpacker can be an unexpected challenge. In Cyprus, public transportation between smaller towns and cities is virtually nonexistent. And while buses connect the island’s largest towns, some of the country’s top attractions can be difficult to visit without a car or organized tour.

Since I was traveling Cyprus without a car, I relied on a combination of public buses and local tours. For day trips to Paphos, Kourion and Cape Greco, I depended on the country’s public transportation network. For day trips to the Troodos Mountains and North Cyprus, however, I joined organized excursions with Eman Travel.

Though I spent five nights in Larnaca, I dedicated little time to the city itself. Instead, I used Larnaca as a base for exploring Cyprus—partly because of its proximity to the island’s largest international airport, and partly because of its central location.

There are surprisingly few accommodation options for those looking to travel Cyprus independently and on the cheap. While in Larnaca, I stayed at the Katka Hostel . Though the hostel was poorly signposted and difficult to find, it proved to be an inexpensive and convenient base from which to explore the island.

Larnaca’s lack of hole-in-the-wall eateries surprised me, too. Most of the restaurants in downtown Larnaca are pricey chains that cater to Americanized palettes. Notable exceptions are the cheap and tasty Souvlaki.gr near St Lazarus Cathedral, and the Cyprus Taverna on Lordou Vyronos Street.

The beautiful St Lazarus Cathedral located near the waterfront in downtown Larnaca

Though Larnaca lacks big-name tourist attractions and must-see sites, the city has a pleasant restaurant-lined waterfront and a handful of interesting places to see—including a small beachside castle, a palm-lined promenade and the beautiful St Lazarus Cathedral.

CAPE GRECO NATIONAL PARK DAY TRIP

Following a fantastic day trip to North Cyprus , I decided to spend the following day on a self-guided day tour to Cape Greco National Park.

The Cape Greco Peninsula is one of the most beautiful places in Cyprus. The park lies near Ayia Napa, in the country’s southeastern corner. The area is somewhat reminiscent to Comino Island , with its cave-punctured cliffs, rugged hillsides and captivating shades of blue.

Cape Greco Caves

Multiple buses a day make the journey between Larnaca and Ayia Napa. The buses leave from the Larnaca waterfront and travel along the island’s southern coast to downtown Ayia Napa.

From Ayia Napa, bus 101 travels to the Cape Greco Visitor Center. Ayia Napa is also the gateway to Nissi Beach—one of the most beautiful family-friendly beaches in the Middle East .

Since the Cape Greco Visitor’s Center was closed during my visit, I picked a path and began to wander. The walk along the eastern side of Cape Greco is beautiful. The shadeless path weaves through brush and passes by a blue and white church, a delicate stone arch and numerous sweeping views of the sea. After walking along the eastern side of the peninsula and stopping every few feet to take photos, I followed a sign for the Cape Greco Sea Caves.

When I reached the caves at the water’s edge, the beauty of the water stopped me in my tracks.

Cape Greco Sea Caves

The area around the sea caves is home to some of the most mesmerizing shades of blue I’ve ever seen. Before visiting Cape Greco, I never knew so many shades of blue existed in nature. The water’s colors ranged from indigo to sapphire and from cobalt to turquoise.

I was totally and utterly in awe.

PAPHOS DAY TRIP FROM LARNACA

The following day, I hopped on another bus and headed westward, toward Paphos . I’d read somewhere that Paphos is one of the top places to see in Cyprus. I’d also read that the city is vastly underwhelming and doesn’t live up to its status as the 2017 European Capital of Culture. Since Paphos constitutes a convenient day trip from Larnaca using public transport, I decided to make a trip out west to see for myself.

Paphos is one of Cyprus’ most historically rich cities. Home to two large archeological sites (the Paphos Archeological Park and the Tombs of the Kings) it is a treasure chest for history buffs and lovers of antiquities.

Wildflowers in Paphos, Cyprus

When I arrived in Paphos, I immediately hit the ground running. I strolled along the waterfront and snapped a few photos of the Paphos Fort. Then, I made my way to the Paphos Archeological Park in order to see some of the most beautiful mosaics in the eastern Mediterranean.

PAPHOS ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARK

There is something indescribably beautiful about the Paphos ruins. The ancient city sits tucked up against the ocean, its remnants strewn among rippling grasses that are dotted with poppies and yellow daisies.

I meant to spend an hour at the Paphos Archeological Park. On the bus ride, I’d meticulously planned out my day—mapping out the amount of time to spend at the various attractions in order to make it back to the bus stop in time for my return trip to Larnaca.

Mosaics in Paphos, Cyprus

But somehow, while admiring the exquisite mosaic floors of the House of Dionysius, two and a half hours sped by and I found myself rushing toward the exit as fast as my legs could carry me.

THE TOMB OF THE KINGS

After visiting the archeological park, I still hoped to make it to the Tombs of the Kings. I walked along the oceanfront promenade as quickly as I could, hoping to somehow shave a few minutes off the maps.me estimate.

I made it to the Tombs of the Kings far later than I had originally planned. And, breathless and gasping for air, I paid the €2,50 entrance fee and began exploring.

The Tombs of the Kings is a UNESCO World Heritage Site that lies 2km north of the Paphos Harbor. The tombs, many of which date back to the 4th century BC, never actually housed any kings. Instead, the rock-hewn chambers are thought to have accommodated Paphos’ aristocrats and high-level officials.

Like the Paphos Archeological Park, the Tombs of the Kings overlooks the cobalt Mediterranean waters. While listening to a soundtrack of crashing waves, I sped around the area’s pathways–climbing up and down stairs, peeking into small chambers and squeezing through passageways.

Tomb of the Kings in Paphos, Cyprus

I found the tombs to be impressive, in large part because I wasn’t really sure what to expect.

Had I had more time, I would have loved to spend a few hours meandering about the tombs and soaking in the views of the sea.

Yet since I was traveling to Paphos as a day trip from Larnaca, I had to turn back prematurely to ensure I would have enough time to make the last return bus.

LIMASSOL AND KOURION FROM LARNACA

I had such a wonderful time meandering through the archeological wonders of Paphos, that I decided to spend my next day in Kourion–another of Cyprus’ top historical sites. Kourion sits atop a steep hill that overlooks the ocean. It is a popular day trip from Larnaca, and accessible using public transport.

To travel between Larnaca and Kourion, I had to change buses in Limassol. A direct bus from Larnaca to Limassol leaves every few hours (7 euros roundtrip). From Limassol,  bus #16 travels the remainder of the way to Kourion.

Kourion is a spectacular place to visit. Built in the 2nd century BC, the ancient ruins were once part of an important city state in southwestern Cyprus. The ruins sit perched on a hillside, with sweeping views of the precipitous cliffs.

Kourion Cliffs

I spent a few hours at the archeological site, admiring the historical relics and the Mediterranean Sea. A walk around the ruins brought me to a well-preserved Greco-Roman amphitheater and various mosaic-laden rooms and chambers. Some, including the House of Achilles and the House of Gladiators, had mosaics that rivaled those in Paphos.

After soaking in the spectacular views of Kourion, I caught the bus back to Limassol and ate a fabulous traditional Cypriot meal at the Kipriakon Restaurant. Once I filled my stomach with delicious home-style comfort food, I spent the remainder of my day trip strolling along Limassol’s pleasant promenade.

Waterfront Promenade in Limassol, Cyprus

DAY TRIP TO NICOSIA AND THE TROODOS MOUNTAINS

I spent the last day of my Cyprus itinerary exploring the island’s mountainous interior. Since the interior of Cyprus is poorly connected by public transport, I chose to join an organized tour for a whirlwind adventure through Nicosia and the Troodos Mountains.

day tours cyprus

NICOSIA: A DIVIDED CITY

My day tour to the Troodos Mountains included a brief visit to Nicosia. During the visit, I spent about an hour meandering the streets of the old town and peeking into the Turkish-controlled areas of North Cyprus .

In contrast to the day trip I took to the northern towns of Kyrenia and Famagusta , my day trip to Nicosia and the Troodos felt slightly rushed. Both Larnaca and the Troodos would have been better suited for a full day of exploration.

KAKOPETRIA VILLAGE, TROODOS MOUNTAINS

From Nicosia, my day tour continued with a pit-stop in Kakopetria Village. The rustic Kakopetria village is amongst the most beautiful in Cyprus. Nestled in the Solea Valley, amid verdant trees and alongside bubbling rivers, the town is an ideal place for a quiet retreat.

day tours cyprus

After allocating about an hour to Kakopetria, our tour proceed to the village of Troodos, high in the mountains. There, we ate lunch at the Troodos Hotel , before continuing toward Omodos.

Omodos is an attractive village near Cyprus’ wine region. Despite a proliferation of souvenir shops and boutique hotels, the village’s backstreets have a timeless cobbled charm. As I wove through the city’s narrow alleyways and peeked into its courtyards overflowing with orange trees, I had the sensation of stepping back in time.

day tours cyprus

Though touristy, the small village of Omodos is worlds away from the high-rise resort towns and beach clubs that characterize much of southern Cyprus’ coastline.

Surrounded by the vineyard-carpeted slopes of Cyprus’ krashoria , the sleepy town of Omodos is the perfect place to sit back, sip a glass of wine, and soak in the beauty of Aphrodite’s homeland.

Cyprus is nicknamed the ‘Isle of Love.’ And there is a lot to love about the enchanting island.

My six day Cyprus itinerary gave me a varied sampling of the island’s offerings. Throughout Cyprus, mountaintop castles and Byzantine churches lay sprinkled about—revealing ancient tombs, intricate mosaics and sites dripping with historical significance. From flower-speckled mountainsides to water so blue it matched the sky, my excursions around Cyprus revealed the country’s beauty, introduced me to its ancient history, and allowed me to understand a bit more about its complicated political present.

8-day 5-star cultural tour of Cyprus

Nicosia – ancient salamis – golden beach – famagusta – bellapais’ monastery – kyrenia, your itinerary.

Based on our own experience and the many tips we have received from enthusiastic holidaymakers, it is our pleasure to present one of the UK’s most popular cultural tours!²

Day 1: Arrival in Ercan and transfer to our star hotel

day tours cyprus

We will land in Ercan on the wonderful northern half of the island. Our friendly and competent English-speaking guide will meet us at the airport and accompany us to our modern travel coach. We travel together in our modern and air-conditioned coach to our star hotel in the Famagusta area, where we will spend the first three nights.

Day 2: Nicosia, Ancient Salamis & St. Barnabas’ Monastery

day tours cyprus

Welcome to the labyrinth of tranquil narrow streets in Nicosia – Europe’s last divided capital. We will start off by exploring the northern section of the city where we will visit the Ottoman caravanserai (admission included) with its splendid inner courtyard and oriental flair. We will continue on foot across the “border”, the so-called Green Line, to the southern section of the city. Immerse yourself in the exciting bustle of the picturesque alleys and walk along the Venetian Wall. We will then travel to the wonderful Roman city of Salamis, by the sea (admission included). There we will marvel at the ruins of the gymnasium, the forum and the thermal baths. To finish our eventful day, we will visit the nearby St. Barnabas’ Monastery (admission included) to stand quietly in front of the sarcophagus of St. Barnabas’ the Apostle, martyr and patron saint of Cyprus.

Day 3: St. Andrew’s Monastery, Golden Beach & Agios Afksentios Church

Golden Beach - most beautiful beach of Cyprus

Today, we undertake a panoramic trip to the untouched part of Northern Cyprus towards Karpaz. We first pass by the picturesque fishing village Dipkarpaz and continue on to the fascinating St. Andrew’s Monastery (admission included). It was dedicated to the apostle Andrew and is considered one of the most significant pilgrimage destinations of the island. We then arrive at the Golden Beach, probably the most beautiful beach in Cyprus. On a leisurely walk, we might, with a bit of luck, spot the tracks of the well-known sea turtles ”Caretta Caretta” in the sand. As a final highlight, we visit the impressive Agios Afksentios Church in Büyükkonok (admission included), which an EU cultural project has restored.

Day 4: Famagusta, St. Nicholas’ Cathedral & Miniature Park

day tours cyprus

The next highlight of today’s discovery tour: the majestic St. Nicholas’ Cathedral (admission included), now known as Lala Mustafa Pasha Mosque. Then, in the port of Famagusta, we will encounter a fascinating, centuries-old handicraft in a modern rug production business. The variety, designs and riot of colours seen in these hand-knotted carpets will inspire us. We will then head towards the Miniature Park (admission included) where we can look forward to miniatures of the 15 most important highlights offered by the island. We will spend the next 4 nights in the peaceful Kyrenia region.

Day 5: Bellapais‘ Monastery, Kyrenia seaport, castle & Ship museum

day tours cyprus

Through the mighty Pentadaktylos Mountains, we drive up to an altitude of 700 metres and experience the famous Bellapais Monastery (admission included) – a masterpiece of Gothic architecture built with the help of the crusaders. During the 13 th century, countless Christian pilgrims visited the monastery where a fragment of the Holy Cross was stored. We will enjoy a breath-taking panorama view of the coastal town of Kyrenia, which once inspired the author Lawrence Durrel to write his famous book titled “Bitter Lemons”. After that we will set off for the old harbour in Kyrenia where white boats bob peacefully in the turquoise water. We will stroll along the promenade as far as the castle (admission included), the city‘s landmark. Its walls tower an impressive 21 metres in front of us. Not far away, we admire an ancient shipwreck from 300 BC. In the museum (admission included), we can admire the wellpreserved original parts of the ancient ship. The great craftsman tradition will shortly afterwards take us to a jewellery and leather gallery. While we are there, you will also have the opportunity to purchase a personal souvenir of your holiday. We round off the evening in a comfortable star hotel.

Day 6 – 7: Kyrenia - the cultural pearl of the sunny island

day tours cyprus

To conclude this interesting and eventful cultural trip, there will be plenty of time for relaxation and new discoveries. Relax by the pool wander slowly along the stunning or visit a traditional steam bath. The picturesque cafés in the port town of Kyrenia also offer the perfect opportunity to linger and enjoy. Other people might explore natural and cultural treasures in the surrounding area on their own: the Gecitköy dam and the ancient city of Soli as well as the impressive Church of St. Mamas with its fantastic frescoes.

Day 8: Homeward journey

Homeward journey

Today, an unforgettable week of holidays draws to a close. We have experienced a lot together and made plenty of friends, many of whom will doubtless be saying “We hope to see each other again on the next trip!“.

General note:.

Below is an information overview. The conditions of entry, as well as the political and health situation, can change anywhere in the world at any time. We therefore recommend checking before your trip. Please check the website of the Foreign Office ( www.gov.uk/ ) before your departure.

The island of Cyprus is in the eastern Mediterranean and is the third-largest Mediterranean island after Sicily and Sardinia. Geographically, the island belongs to Asia but is regarded as European both politically and culturally. Cyprus has been divided since 1974. The internationally recognised Republic of Cyprus only controls the southern section of the island, not the northern section which is delineated from the South by a demarcation line (Green Line). Only Turkey recognises the northern section of Cyprus as an independent state. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus comprises just over one-third of the island. Hand-made carpets, jewellery and leather goods are an integral part and in some cases a centuries-old tradition of oriental culture – which is why our tour also includes a visit to a jewellery maker, a leather merchant and a traditional carpet weaver. Here you will discover some fascinating facts about the art of carpet weaving and see how hand-woven carpets have been made throughout the generations. In interesting demonstrations, you will learn more about preparing the silk threads, natural wool dyeing and very intricate and elaborate knots. You will then get to spend an hour or two in the respective factories looking at the works of art and products. Bartering is a typical Turkish custom. If you are not interested in buying anything, the traders will also accept a clear no. No bartering takes place in department stores and supermarkets, or at markets where local farmers sell their vegetables. In Cyprus, it is customary to give tips. Similar to the USA, this forms part of income for people working in the service sector. Moreover, it symbolises recognition for the service provided. One can tip chambermaids £1 per night. In a restaurant or taxi, tipping around 10% of the billed sum is customary. Tips are not given in shops. On group trips, the suggested tip for a tour guide could be £2 per person per day, while for bus drivers the appropriate tip is around £1 – 2 per day per person. Of course, everyone may decide for themselves whether and how much of a tip they wish to give.

In the “Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus”, traffic drives on the left.

Electricity:

The supply voltage is 240 V, 50 HZ. An adapter is necessary.

Local time:

The time difference between the UK and Northern Cyprus is plus two hours throughout the year.

Making telephone calls:

The country code for Northern Cyprus is 0090 with the zero cancelled before the area code. If you are calling the UK from Northern Cyprus, please dial 0044 and the area code without the zero.

Entry requirements for British citizens:

British citizens do not need a visa for stays of up to 90 days within a period of 180 days. The passport should be valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry, less than 10 years old and should have a full blank page for the entry and exit stamps. As a visitor, your passport will be stamped when you enter and exit Cyprus. Border guards will use the passport stamps to check you are complying with the 90-day visa-free limit for short stays. Please note: All travellers travelling from Northern Cyprus to the UK must officially enter Türkiye before flying on to the UK. All travellers must pass through the Turkish entry checkpoint at the Antalya airport and then check in again for the connecting flight. Nationals of other countries are advised to inquire at the Turkish Embassy about the entry requirements applicable to them. Regulations in respect of passport and visa requirements for Cyprus are the responsibility of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (“MFA”) whose Web site is http://mfa.gov.ct.tr/consular-info/visa-regulations/ . Whilst we endeavour to provide guidance where necessary, we can not be responsible for any problems encountered (whether at any point of entry or elsewhere) in the event that passport and visa requirements are not satisfied.

Crossing the “Green Line”: Travelling between the northern and southern sections of Cyprus does not generally present a problem with valid travel documents at the designated border crossings. Usually, there are no waiting periods.

Tour guides:

Additional packages:, currency in turkey and northern cyprus:.

Since 1 January 2009, the currency has once again been called the Turkish lira (TRY). Exchange rate (as at February 2024): 1 GBP = 39.43 TRY; 1 TRY = 0.03 GBP.

Banks/Credit cards:

Euro cheques and travellers’ cheques are accepted by most banks, hotels and bureaux de change. Cash can be exchanged at the banks during business hours: Mon. to Fri., 8 a.m. to 12 midday in summer and Mon. to Fri., 8 a.m. to 12 midday and 2 to 4 p.m. in winter. ATTENTION: Caution is advised when paying with bank or credit cards as criminals may try to copy the traveller’s bank card and obtain the relevant PIN code without being noticed to then withdraw cash from cash machines using fake cards. Travellers are therefore advised to keep an eye on their bank card when paying with it and to enter their PIN number with discretion. Care should also be taken when using bank and credit cards with PIN code in exchange offices.

Customs regulations:

The following regulations apply for tourists: import of foreign currency is unlimited. As for exporting currency, a total amount of 5,000 US dollars or the equivalent in TRY is permitted. Travellers may import and export personal jewellery to a total value of 15,000 US dollars. Any value higher than this must be declared when entering the country. Documentation is required for purchases made in Cyprus. Otherwise, the following goods per person may be carried upon entry into Turkey (does not apply to transit travellers): personal belongings as items for personal use, incl. medical articles (devices) and medicine as well as giftware to a value of £ 250. The purchase, possession and export of “cultural and natural properties” is severely punished (prison sentence of up to 10 years), as this property is regarded as state-owned assets. In case of violation, several months of custody and high bail fees (currently approx. £ 7,540) are common procedure for tourists, too, even if they hold antiques or old objects of supposedly small value. In individual cases, prison sentences are imposed. You are therefore urgently advised not to acquire or take along antiques, old coins, fossils etc. from retailers. Important: If you are travelling to Great Britain from outside the UK, your personal allowances mean you can bring in a certain amount of goods without paying tax or duty. If you go over your allowances you must declare all your goods and pay tax and duty on all the goods in that category. Please inform yourself about the current customs regulations: www.gov.uk/bringing-goods-into-uk-personal-use/arriving-in-Great-Britain

Please note:

Photographs may not be taken near the buffer zone and military facilities throughout Cyprus. Such bans may not always be indicated.

Medical information:

At least 8 weeks before your trip, check the latest country-specific health advice from the National Travel Health Network and Centre (NaTHNaC) on the TravelHealthPro website ( https://travelhealthpro.org.uk/countries ). Each country-specific page has information on vaccine recommendations, any current health risks or outbreaks, and factsheets with information on staying healthy abroad. Every traveller should be sufficiently protected against tetanus and polio as well as hepatitis, if needs be. Caution is advised when eating uncooked food, unpasteurised dairy products (e.g. fresh milk, ice cream) and fruit that can not be peeled. Please avoid drinking tap water and ice cubes in drinks! Rule of thumb: do not eat anything that can not be cooked or peeled! The costs of medical treatment in the northern part of Cyprus are not generally covered by British health insurance companies. Take out comprehensive travel and medical insurance before you travel. Make sure you have private travel health insurance. Such policies usually also offer benefits not covered by state health insurance companies, e.g. the costs of repatriation. Customers should ensure that they are physically and psychologically fit for undertaking the selected trip and make the necessary queries concerning the level of physical and psychological fitness required. Please observe that the excursions are accessible by foot only and that the buses used for the roundtrip are not customised to transport wheelchairs or similar devices.
