Worth It? Celebrity Cruises Drink Packages Explained (Prices, What’s Included, and More)

Celebrity Cruises also offers a full lineup of drink packages, giving you the ability to pay one set daily price and then have your choice of beverages without worrying about a bill. Drink as much as you want, and you’ll know exactly what you’ll spend.

celebrity cruise ship drink packages

But these packages can be pricey and definitely have some fine print attached that you should know about. So is Celebrity’s drink package worth it? We have all the details, including our take on if you should purchase it or not.

What Drink Packages Are Available on Celebrity?

Celebrity offers multiple drink packages that can be tailored to whatever your tastes, from high-end alcoholic beverages to water and soda. So whether you are an adult that wants to let loose, or you are sailing with a kid that wants non-alcoholic drinks, the cruise line has an option.

Classic Drink Package: The basic drink package that offers everything from cocktails to coffee, beers, wine, bottled water, soda, and more. This package limits you to drinks that are $10 per glass or less.

Premium Drink Package: Have higher-end tastes? Or maybe you just want the freedom of more options? In that case, the Premium Drink Package might be for you. It includes drinks up to $17 per glass, giving you everything in the Classic Package, plus much more.

Zero Proof Package: If you want some of the tasty drinks on the ship but aren’t an alcohol drinker, then there is the Zero Proof Package. This deal offers premium bottled waters (Evian, San Pellegrino, etc.) specialty coffees and teas, plus zero-proof cocktails, soda, Vitamin Water and bottled teas.

How Much Do Drink Packages Cost?

Following a price increase and some tweaks to the packages in late 2022, Celebrity lists the following prices for each drink package:

  • Classic Drink Package: $89 per person, per day
  • Premium Drink Package: $109 per person, per day
  • Classic Non-Alcoholic Package: $30 per person, per day

Note that these prices are lower than what you will see on the ship. Celebrity offers a discount for booking early, so if you want a drink package, book before you sail.

Is Gratuity Included in the Price?

The prices shown above are before gratuity. There is an automatic 20% “service charge” that is added onto the daily cost.

So the Classic Drink Package at $89 per day actually costs a total of $106.80 per day after this charge . The Premium Drink Package comes out to $130.80 per person, per day .

Does Everyone in the Cabin Have to Purchase the Package if One Person Does?

celebrity cruise ship drink packages

What do you do if one person wants a drink package but another person doesn’t? In that case, Celebrity requires that if one person buys an alcoholic package, then all people in that cabin must buy one as well. This includes non-alcoholic packages for teens traveling with parents.

However, there are some exceptions for kids or those with medical/health reasons for not drinking:

  • Kids 12 and under: Not required to buy any package
  • Kids 13-20 (U.S.) or 13-17 (Rest of World): Must purchase Zero Proof Package
  • Pregnant: Must purchase Zero Proof Package
  • Medical issue or in recovery: Must purchase Zero Proof Package

What’s the Difference Between the Classic and Premium Packages?

As mentioned above, Celebrity offers two different alcoholic packages. The biggest difference between the two is that the Classic package offers drinks up to $10 per glass while the Premium plan offers drinks up to $17 per glass. The Premium package also offers a 20% discount on wine by the bottle compared to 15% for the Classic offer.

In short, you simply have more options with the higher-end Premium package.

Still, that’s not to say you’ll go thirsty with either package. Here’s just a sample of what Celebrity says is included with the lower-priced Classic package :

  • Vodkas: Tito’s, Absolut, New Amsterdam, Smirnoff
  • Whiskeys: Dewar’s White Label, Famous Grouse, Jim Beam, Johnnie Walker Red, Monkey Shoulder, Seagram’s VO
  • Rums: Bacardi, Captain Morgan’s, Kraken, Malibu, Myer’s, Wray & Nephew
  • Tequilas: Don Julio Blanco, Teremana Blanco
  • Beers: Bud, Bud Light, Coors Light, Corona, Franziskaner, Heineken, Kirin, Miller Lite, Michelob Ultra, Morette, Newcastle Brown Ale, Stongbow Cider

In addition, the cruise line says it offers “a large selection of classic cocktails made with Classic Beverage Package spirits.”

So if you’re just looking for a drink, then the Classic should have you covered. If you have finer tastes or enjoy fancy cocktails, the Premium package is likely a better choice.

What If I Buy a Drink Above the $10/$17 Price Limit?

Say you have the Classic Beverage Package — which only has a $10 per glass limit — but want a drink that costs more.

In that case, Celebrity’s policy is that you have to pay for the overage. So if you order a $14 cocktail, then you’ll be charged only $4, plus the 20% gratuity on that overage amount.

It’s the same situation if you have the higher-priced package and go over the $17 per glass limit.

Can I Share Drinks With the Package?

It is universal across cruise lines — including Celebrity — that sharing is not allowed. This is a reason that cruise lines require all adults to buy the drink package if one person in the cabin does so. That way, there isn’t a big worry about sharing.

That said, unless you are blatantly obvious it’s not likely that anyone will know if you do share a drink.

How Many Drinks Can I Buy at Once With the Package?

celebrity cruise ship drink packages

While most people simply order one drink at a time, there are times where you might want to order more. Unfortunately, Celebrity’s drink package rules state that you can only order one drink at a time. Extras are charged at the regular menu price. So if you’re wanting to get a drink for you and your spouse, you’ll both need to order something instead of just one person heading to the bar.

Is There a Limit on How Many Drinks I Can Order in a Day?

No. While some cruise lines have daily limits on the number of drinks you can buy in a 24-hour period with their drink packages, Celebrity specifically says that there is no daily limit on the cruise line.

That said, if you are obviously overserved, then don’t be surprised if the crew declines to give you another drink.

Do I Have to Buy the Package For The Entire Cruise?

If you decide that you want to buy a drink package, then you should know that it must be bought for the entire length of the cruise. So on a 7-day cruise, you’ll pay the daily charge each day for the entire week.

You can’t just pick and choose days to purchase the package.

How Can I Save Money on the Drink Package?

There’s no doubt that the drink package can cost a lot of money over the course of your cruise. But there are a few ways that you can save some cash.

First, if you know that you’ll want one of the drink packages, then buy it ahead of time. Celebrity prominently displays a notice on its website that “Pre-Cruise Pricing Always Lower Than On Board.”

Second, you can potentially save with Celebrity’s “All Included” offer. The cruise lines offers two different fares — cruise only and All Included. With the offer, you pay more than the base cruise fare, but gratuities, wi-fi, and a drink package is included. (For most cabins, the Classic Drink Package is included; those cabins in The Retreat receive the Premium Drink Package.)

While you’ll want to do the math, this can be a less expensive way to get the drink package. For instance, we priced an 8-night cruise with the All Included package for about $440 more per person over the base cruise fare. The Classic package would cost more than $700 alone for that length of trip (before gratuity).

Is the Celebrity Drink Package Worth It?

There’s no argument that the cost of a drink package can be pricey. Over a 7-day trip, the cost of the Classic Drink Package would run $747 with gratuity included. The Premium Drink Package would cost 916.

So is it worth it?

Obviously, the answer is going to depend on the specific person. Are you the sort of person that isn’t on vacation unless there is a drink in your hand? Then yes, the drink package is likely going to be worth it.

Or are you the sort of person that may like to let loose for a night or two but then take it easy? In that case, it’s likely not. But it’s helpful to do the math.

On a cruise ship beers are typically around $7-8 each. Cocktails run around $12-14 each (though Celebrity offers many under the $10 price point for the Classic Drink Package).

For the $89 Classic Drink Package, you have to drink nine $10 cocktails each day to get your money’s worth. For the higher-end Premium Drink Package, you’d have to drink eight cocktails priced at $15 each before you come out ahead.

That is a lot, but that figure doesn’t include things like bottled waters, coffees, or sodas, which can also add up quickly.

As well, there is something to be said about not having to worry about having to keep tabs on your bar bill during the cruise. Want to try a new drink? There’s no risk of not liking it. If that’s the case, you can just order something else.

If you are on the fence of being unsure whether the package would be worth it for you or not, remember that the All Included offer may make the choice much easier. With a potentially lower price for the package, it could put the math in your favor.

Is the 20% gratuities on the drinks that get charged to your account covered by the gratuities package?

Yes, you are charged the 20% on the value of the package. Then you’re covered when you actually get a beverage at the bar.

Is the non-alcoholic package worth buying? I was thinking that we could buy that and only pay out of pocket for a few drinks for me since my husband no longer drinks alcohol. Thanks for your time!

If you got the classic drink package as part of the all inclusive, where do the 20% gratuity come in? Is is part of the cruise price or is it added later? Tx

I can’t seem to find a price list for none alcoholic drinks like juice and specialty coffee, do you know how much they generally cost? I have a feeling during a day I might like a special coffee a juice and perhaps one non alcoholic cocktail so just 3 drinks would it be better to just pay for them individually?

You can estimate about $3-5 for these items ($5-7 for a non-alc cocktail). At just three drinks, you’d want to skip the drink package. However, Celebrity offers the all-inclusive package with fares. In that case, you’ll want to see how much more the included fare (which has drinks, tips, and wi-fi included) costs versus the bare bones cost.

But at three non-alcoholic drinks, you’ll be spending around $15-20.

Sorry I meant, Drinks without the drink package.

Is there anything included in the standard cruise without packages.

Not alcoholic drinks. Basic drinks like tea, water, and coffee are included.

Standard “bar brand” type cocktails are around 10 bucks. Some are more. Look at the list of included booze for the different packages. If you don’t see what you like in the classic checkout premium. Moat everything you can order at any of the bars is included in the premium. Only some very high end top shelf stuff like Louis xiii or Macallan 18 or 20 yr old scotch are over the 17 buck limit. If you juat like basic booze the classic is fine. I check with the bartender when ordering to make sure. You may end up signing for an overage if you don’t check.

20% is added on to the total. They add gratuities to drinks if you buy them one at a time as well. No different

Hello, I have been searching to find the answer to the Classic Drink package as to whether or not it includes soda and regular bottle water? I have reached out to celebrity several times but the wait times have been over 2 hours. If you happen to know the answer to this, I would greatly appreciate your input.

Yes. From Celebrity’s website of what’s included:

“Non-Alcoholic: Juices, Sodas, Non-Premium bottle water, Premium coffees, Premium teas”

So what is the cost of a Jim Beam and water or Canadian Club and water?

Or a frozen drink like a mud slide or strawberry daiquiri?

I’m confused on the difference of the drink packages when you don’t know what is charged per drink

If there are 2 adults in the room with the classic drink package, can only one of them upgrade to the premium package? Since the other doesn’t drink.

Yes. Use your card for premium drinks for you. If the other doesn’t drink just get the zero proof package for them. No need to waste money on a classic. The package is listed on your room key/ID card.

Thanks for great info. I was wondering if I book a celebrity veranda room for 3 guests ( 2 adults and 10 year old kid ) with all inclusive ( drink, wifi and gratuity), do we get any discount for kids or is it same price for kid as adults. Thanks

So the 10 year old will obviously get the zero-proof package, but not sure if it’s priced less.

Thanks for the info, does the ship offer events like cocktails making glasses or Martin testing g do glasses, that the package will cover?

Tastings are all ala carte charges, not included in drink package.

So wait…the 20% gratuity is added per day instead of per drink?! Is there a way to opt out of the daily gratuity if you don’t intend to use the package that often…like say you don’t get any drinks for a few days or something like that?

With drink packages you pay one set daily fee — no matter what. Drink 10 drinks and you pay the same as if you had 0 drinks. Then the 20% is added on to the daily cost of the package. That’s why you want to do the math before you buy to see if it’s worth it.

Celebrity Cruises Drink Package: Ultimate Guide

Disclosure: This post may contain affiliate links. We may receive compensation when you purchase via my links at no cost to you. See my disclosure for more information.

When you sail with Celebrity Cruises, you no longer need to consider purchasing a drinks package. Every Celebrity cruise includes a drink package, gratuities, and basic Wi-Fi with the “Always Included” cruise fare.

Including the Celebrity Cruises drink package with the standard fare provides a more all-inclusive approach to cruising.

If the Classic package isn’t enough, you can always upgrade to the Premium drinks package, which includes higher-priced beverages, large martinis, and Champagne.

But is the drink package worth it on Celebrity Cruises?

We’ve got all the details and a simple calculator to help you decide if Celebrity Cruises drink packages are right for you.

Keep reading to learn all about the beverage packages, or click the link to visit the drink package calculator .

Table of Contents

Celebrity Cruises Drink Package

Celebrity Cruises offers four drink packages:

  • Classic Package: Starting at $89 per day
  • Premium Package: Starting at $109 per day
  • Zero Proof Drink Package: Starting at $30 per day

Classic Package

Celebrity Cruises’ Classic Beverage Package is popular among Celebrity guests.

The Classic package starts at $89 per person per day and includes the following up to $10 per drink:

  • Frozen drinks
  • Non-premium bottled water
  • Specialty coffees and teas
  • Vitamin Water

You receive a complimentary Classic drink package when you purchase the Celebrity Cruises “Always Included” cruise fare . The “all-inclusive” cruise fare includes the beverage package bundled with your cruise fare, among other extras.

The selection of beverages covered by the drinks package covers most of the beers and wines on the ship.

You also receive a 15% discount on bottles of wine.

What if you want to purchase a drink over $10?

It’s simple. If you want to purchase a drink that costs more than $10, you will only be charged the difference plus a 20% gratuity on the difference.

Premium Package

Celebrity cruise drink packages martini bar

The Premium Package is a good option if you want higher-priced drinks.

Premium Package starts at $109 per person per day and includes the following up to $15 per drink:

The premium package covers most drinks offered at the onboard bars and restaurants.

With the premium package, you also get a 20% discount on bottles of wine.

The normal price for the package is $109 per person per day. But, when you receive the Classic package as part of the Always Included fare, you can upgrade to the premium package for only $12 per person per day.

The premium drinks package is your best option for a truly all-inclusive experience on your Celebrity cruise.

Zero Proof Drink Package

Celebrity Cruises Drink Package kids beverage

The Zero Proof Drink Package is Celebrity Cruises’ non-alcoholic drink package.

The Zero Proof Drink Package starts at $30 per person per day and includes the following:

  • Zero-proof cocktails (Frozen & Non-Frozen)
  • Fresh squeezed juices
  • Premium coffees and teas
  • Bottled water

Is it Worth Upgrading to the Premium Beverage Package?

Passengers enjoying the Celebrity Cruises beverage package on the magic carpet bar

If you have the Classic drink package in your Always Included fare, you might wonder if it’s worth upgrading to the Premium beverage package.

Remember, if you have the Classic package, you can upgrade to the Premium drink package for $12 per person per day.

For most beer and wine drinkers, the upgrade to the premium package isn’t worth it because many of the included drinks are already included in the Classic Beverage Package.

There’s no benefit to upgrading unless you want to purchase higher-priced cocktails, beers, and fine wine.

I would only suggest upgrading if you want a particular brand or prefer to drink higher-priced beverages such as cocktails or gluten-free beer.

How to Upgrade to the Premium Beverage Packages

Bartender on a Celebrity Cruise Ship

So, you’ve received the Classic drink package with your Always Included fare but want to upgrade to the premium package. Now, how do you upgrade?

Celebrity Cruises allows guests to upgrade their drink package costs $12 per person per day.

The first way to upgrade your beverage packages is to upgrade only your drink packages from the Classic Beverage Package to the Premium Package.

After you upgrade, you will receive all of the benefits of the premium package.

But there is another way to upgrade that may save you more money in the long run.

Many cruisers are surprised that you can bring alcohol on a cruise ship .

If an adult purchases an alcoholic drink plan, guests between the ages of 13 and 20 must buy the Zero Proof Drink Package, while guests under 12 are not required to purchase any package.

Of course, purchasing a drink package is optional, but it is required that all adults sharing a cabin purchase the same beverage package.

Celebrity no longer offers the Elevate or Indulge Packages. These packages ended July 14, 2022. While they were a spectacular deal, it seems the cruise line would rather you spend your money piecemeal instead of on packages…

Good catch! I’ve removed mentions of the Elevate and Indulge package. It will be missed.

I have just booked through Cruise Nation to sail with Celebrity. They say that the drinks package is not included. I telephoned Celebrity and was told it was and to call back cruise nation. We did this and were told after contacting Celebrity the drinks package isn’t included. Most websites say it is, so how do I get this sorted? Thanks in advance.

The cruise fare you are referring to is Celebrity’s Always included fare. This price package includes the drink package, wifi, and gratuities in the base cost of the cruise. It appears that you might have booked the regular cruise fare that doesn’t include these extras.

Your best course of action is to contact Cruise Nation to get it sorted.

Are cruise drink packages worth the price? What to know before you buy

Gene Sloan

Are cruise drink packages worth the price? The short answer is that it depends.

It depends on how expensive a cruise line's alcohol package is on any given ship as compared to the cost of drinks purchased individually. Both things vary greatly from line to line.

It also depends on how much you drink in any given day and what sort of drinks you typically order.

For more cruise guides, news and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

In addition, it depends on whether you'll have access to any free drinks on a ship before paying up for a drink package. On many river cruise ships, for instance, wine and beer with lunch and dinner are included in base fares. You only pay extra for other alcoholic drinks served at meals or outside of meal times.

At some lines, the question isn't even relevant, as they include all or most alcoholic drinks in their base fares. At some other lines, drinks normally cost extra but often are thrown in for free as part of booking promotions.

Thinking about buying a cruise drink package or just wondering how much you should budget for drinks when cruising? Here, we talk about everything you need to know about whether purchasing an alcoholic drink package when cruising is right for you.

What is a cruise drink package?

One of the big allures of a cruise for many vacationers is that quite a lot is included in the fare, including a room, most meals and a wide range of entertainment. Alas, at many lines, drinks are not part of the package — and they can be quite pricey. For heavier drinkers, it's easy to run up an enormous bar tab when ordering drinks by the glass.

Enter the drink package, a flat-fee, all-you-can-drink offering that many lines have added over the years. For a fixed per-day rate, a drink package lets you order as many alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks as you want every day.

The price of such packages varies widely from line to line, from around $60 a day at cruise giant Carnival Cruise Line (if booked in advance) to $138 a day at Norwegian Cruise Line . For more on what's included in such packages and a line-by-line breakdown of what they cost, see TPG's ultimate guide to cruise line drink packages .

The benefits of a cruise line drink package

It can pay off to buy a drink package if you are someone who normally orders a lot of individual drinks on a cruise ship, particularly pricier drinks such as premium cocktails and wines by the glass. It's not uncommon for premium cocktails to cost as much as $15 or more on some lines, and wines by the glass also can approach $15 or more on some lines, too.

The first thing you should do when considering a drink package is carefully think through how many drinks (and what type) you normally order while on vacation.

As noted above, cruise drink packages on ships often are quite pricey, and they only make sense if you're a big spender on drinks — a really big spender. Carnival, for instance, charges $59.95 per person, per day for its Cheers! drink package if booked in advance ($64.95 if booked on board). Royal Caribbean drink packages sometimes cost as much as $89 per day. One Norwegian drink package is $138 a day. These packages only make sense if you routinely spend more than those amounts on drinks on a per-day basis.

celebrity cruise ship drink packages

If you're a beer drinker, the packages generally are not a good deal. It's better just to pay for beer as you go. On Carnival ships, for instance, many beers cost $7 to $7.95. You'd have to order more than seven to eight beers a day at that price for Carnival's Cheers! package to start paying off.

The packages make better sense for wine drinkers, as the cost of wine by the glass on cruise ships often is high. Wines by the glass on Carnival ships range from around $10 to $15. At the higher end of that spectrum, you'd have to order five glasses a day for the package to start paying off.

Related: The best drinks to order with a cruise ship beverage package

In addition to alcoholic drinks, passengers purchasing a cruise drink package typically can order an unlimited number of nonalcoholic beverages, such as specialty coffees and sodas that normally come with an extra charge. So the packages can be a good value to vacationers who are fond of ordering a high number of lattes, Cokes and other nonalcoholic beverages during the day in addition to alcoholic drinks.

To use the Carnival example again, someone who orders two or three lattes in the morning, several sodas during the day and three or four glasses of premium wine in the evening would come out ahead by buying a drink package.

For some cruisers, drink packages also prove to be a valuable budgeting tool. You typically can buy a drink package in advance and know exactly what you're going to spend for drinks for your entire cruise before you even step on board. Having a drink package also makes bar-hopping on ships easy, as you don't have to worry about paying for drinks as you go.

The drawbacks of a cruise drink package

The big drawback of buying a drink package when you cruise is that you may not get the value out of it that you think.

One thing to keep in mind is that lines generally sell drink packages by the cruise, not by the day. That means that you can't just buy a package for the specific days when you want to bar-hop on a ship. If you're on a seven-day cruise, you'll have to pay the steep per-day rates for all seven days — even for days when you don't plan to drink heavily.

Even if you think you'll use a drink package every day, remember that you might be spending a significant amount of time off your ship during port days on your cruise. On days when you're off the ship much of the time, you won't be ordering nearly as many drinks on board as on a sea day. Some cruise lines don't even allow you to use your drink packages on their private islands.

The packages make the most sense for passengers who consistently order a large number of drinks from day to day — even on port days.

On many ships, you'll also need to factor in the drinking habits of your traveling companion. Several lines including Carnival, Holland America and MSC Cruises have a rule that if one adult in a cabin orders a drink package, all adults in the cabin must order the package. This is to prevent two people in a cabin from sharing a single drink package.

In such cases, it often doesn't make sense to buy a cruise drink package unless everyone in your cabin is a significant drinker. If one of you drinks and the other does not, you'll save more money by buying drinks by the glass.

Two lines that notably don't have such a rule are Princess Cruises and Windstar Cruises .

Another downside of many cruise drink packages is that they often have unexpected exclusions and price caps. Even the priciest drink packages might not include your favorite brand of whiskey or vodka, for instance. And many drink packages only apply to drinks on menus that cost under, say, $15. Note that in some cases, lines offer more than one drink package, with a pricier tier that gives you access to a broader range of brands and a higher per-drink cost limit.

If you're someone who is picky about wines, meanwhile, you may find that the wines included in drink packages don't quite meet your expectations. Generally, cruise drink packages only can be used for the wines by the glass that are available at bars and restaurants on ships, not the wider array of bottled wine in cruise ship cellars. That said, signing up for a drink package will get you a discount when buying wines by the bottle on some lines.

How to get a free cruise drink package

The decision about whether or not to get a cruise ship drink package changes when you can get a package for free. Some big-ship lines will throw in drink packages for no extra cost as a perk during limited-time or ongoing booking promotions.

The line perhaps best known for throwing in free cruise drink packages as a booking perk is Norwegian Cruise Line. Norwegian seemingly always is running some variation of its "Free at Sea" promotion that brings a free drink package, specialty dining, excursions and other perks. Depending on the cabin category you book, you typically can get one or more of the freebies thrown in.

Other lines that historically have run promotions with free drink packages include Princess Cruises and Holland America, although both lines now are touting new all-inclusive fares that include drink packages and other perks.

Related: The best cruise booking perks – and which ones are actually free

Just note that the free cruise drink packages that lines sometimes offer with booking promotions aren't always their top-tier drink packages. Celebrity Cruises , for instance, includes a drink package with one of its fare classes called All Included fares. But it's not Celebrity's top-tier Premium Drink Package. The included package only covers drinks up to $9 and does not include premium brands of liquor and beer. For an expanded list of covered brands and drinks up to $15, you'd need to pay to upgrade your package.

Another drawback of the free cruise drink packages that lines sometimes offer with booking promotions is that they're not really free. Cruise lines typically charge customers who get a free drink package a gratuity fee for receiving the package in the amount of 15% to 20% of whatever the package normally costs. That can result in your "free" drink package actually costing you more than $100 a week.

Bottom line

Buying a drink package on a cruise ship instead of paying for drinks individually can be a good way to save when cruising. But they aren't for everyone. Drink packages generally make sense only for cruisers who typically order large numbers of drinks every day or particularly expensive drinks such as premium cocktails. For cruisers who only have one or two or three drinks a day, or order low-cost drinks such as beers, a cruise drink package generally doesn't make sense.

Celebrity Cruises Drinks & Bar Menus – Know what to expect on your next cruise

On a recent voyage (December 2023), we took the time to scan each of the drink menus on the Celebrity Constellation. These menus are representative of the drink & cocktail prices across the fleet of Celebrity ships, though some newer ships may have more unique bar menus.

Don’t forget that the prices do not include the mandatory 20% gratuity/service charge

We thought the prices were in line with most major cruise lines, however, there were an incredible number of standard wines and other beverages that were not available during the voyage leaving only more expensive options to choose from. If this is what is happening across the company it makes the drink package(s) seem like a decent deal if you can get it at the right price.

Pool Bar & Buffet Beverage Menus on Celebrity

The typical menus found at the pool bars and in the buffet area of the ships. Some of the beer, in my opinion, is excessively priced. The rest of the drinks seem on par with what you’d expect on any cruise line.

Cocktail & Bar Menus

The bar menus in the lounges vary, but this is the staple offering across the cruise line. Most cocktails were $12 throughout the ship and none were poured “light”.

Celebrity Cruises Wine Menu

Even though there was a dedicated wine bar on our latest cruise, the options seemed quite limited. Many weren’t available even if listed. What is posted as the available brands on the Celebrity website is unfortunately quite different than what the reality is.

Celebrity Cruises Martini Bar Menu

The martini bars on the Celebrity ships are hugely popular, for good reason! But the prices have gone up quite a bit in recent years. At $17 each, there are no martinis that now fit within the Classic beverage package, meaning you have to splurge for the Premium drink package if you want them included (or pay the difference in cost of a few dollars).

Other drink Prices on Celebrity Cruises

We try to scan every menu while we’re on a cruise, but for whatever reason, Celebrity has pulled many of the menus that are more general and replaced them with the above cocktail menus that aren’t totally inclusive.

It could be because of the rapid price changes across the fleet.

It left us asking everywhere we went, how much certain spirits were before we ordered. It was relatively frustrating to not be able to know what was offered and what the pricing was like.

Here are a few takeaways from our inquiries while onboard:

  • Macallan is $19 a pour now.
  • Woodford is at $17 a pour
  • There are very few wines and beers within the $10 price of the basic drink package
  • Wines by the glass and beers are priced between $12 and $17
  • There is an “elevated” selection of wines by the glass anywhere between $22-$36

Thanks for sharing the drink menus. Helps us to decide to upgrade out drink package to premium. Much appreciated. Pattie

I’m glad this helped Pattie! Unfortunately you almost have to upgrade the drink package to get anything decent now 🙁

Enjoy your cruise!

Thanks so much for the above information, really helps me. I’m trying to find out the cost of spirits, especially whiskey.Do you have this information please. Thankyou

Hi Sue – They weirdly didn’t have separate spirits menus! I do know Dewar’s White Label, Famous Grouse, Jim Beam, Johnnie Walker Red, Monkey Shoulder, Seagram’s VO were all under $10 for a single pour. Since these are under the higher end drink package, they’ll be less than $17 : Aberfeldy 12, Bulleit Bourbon, Chivas Regal 12, Dewar’s 12, Gentleman Jack, The Glenlivet, Jack Daniel’s Black, Jack Daniel’s Rye, Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel, Johnnie Walker Black, Johnnie Walker Double Black, The Macallan Lumina, The Macallan Quest, Maker’s Mark, Rittenhouse Rye, Wild Turkey, Woodford Reserve.

I hope this helps a little. Unfortunately, I looked at all the menus we have and none are specific with prices of their other brands.

Perfect, thankyou so much. Just trying to work out if it’s worth the drinks package, this helps a lot. Do they put the 20%on every drink you order rather than the package?? Thanks for your help

If you don’t buy a package, and buy drinks as you go, the gratuity is added on every drink. If you buy the package, there is a 20% gratuity added to the package during checkout, and you won’t pay anymore – UNLESS – the drink you order isn’t covered by the package, then you pay 20% on the difference of the price only.

Thankyou, It’s very strange because we’ve reserved the package and the 20%wasnt added, just wanted to check it wouldn’t be later. Really appreciate your help and advice.

That is strange, are you by chance outside of the US? On European and UK prices, the price includes gratuities (not separate line item during checkout like it is in the USA)

Yes,I did wonder if this was the case. Yes in uk

8 best drinks to order with a cruise ship beverage package (and 3 to avoid)

I f you're going to spend $60 to $140 per day for a cruise ship drink package , you will want to make sure you're getting the best value. Order the right drinks and you can definitely get your money's worth. Choose the wrong drinks, and you'll end up spending more money than necessary.

The most cost-effective option is to get a cruise line drink package free as a booking perk . If you can't do that, focus on these eight best drinks to order with a beverage package to get the most out of your alcohol budget. I'll also clue you into three drink types that will work against your plan to make that package worth the money.

For cruise news, reviews and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Expensive cocktails

If you prepay a flat price for alcohol, you can order pricey specialty cocktails without worrying about paying $15 to $20 a pop. Hands down, the best drink you can order from a value standpoint is the most expensive cocktail that falls within your plan's limit.

For example, Carnival Cruise Line includes beverages that cost $20 or less in its Cheers Beverage Program. The limit is $15 with Norwegian Cruise Line 's Unlimited Open Bar Beverage Package and $14 with Royal Caribbean 's Deluxe Beverage Package. Prioritize drinks that cost close to the limit. If you go over, most onboard bars will charge the difference, so you might want to try that expensive cocktail for just a few bucks.

Name-brand liquor

Order a gin and tonic, and the bartender is likely to pour you the cheapest house brand of gin he's got on hand. Get the most from your beverage package by asking for your tonic with Tanqueray or Bombay Sapphire.

The same rule of thumb applies to any liquor. Ask for your booze by name to get the nicer, more expensive drink and the best value from your beverage package. Just make sure the brand you're requesting is included in your package — otherwise you'll be charged extra. (Note that if your cruise line offers multiple tiers of drink packages, the top-shelf liquors might only be included in the priciest option.)

Weirdest drink on the menu

I like to try new drinks, but at $10 to $15 a cocktail, it can be an expensive experiment. With a drink package, however, experimentation is a risk-free proposition — especially on lines that have no limit on the number of alcoholic drinks you can purchase in a 24-hour period.

Try that fruit-infused vodka, the crazy-colored shot or the spiked cappuccino. There's no extra cost if you don't like it, and you only have to wait a few minutes before you can order a replacement.

The drink doesn't have to be eye-raising to be experimental. Use your beverage package to sample new wines by the glass or a cocktail you've never tried. You might discover your new favorite drink.

Specialty coffee

Cruisers have trouble leaving their Starbucks addiction behind them and flock to the extra-charge coffee cafes onboard. With a beverage package, you can indulge your caffeine addiction with the good stuff at no extra charge.

Make your morning latte a vacation habit, or grab a chai tea on a rainy sea day or an iced coffee on a hot one. Nonalcoholic drinks do not count toward any drink limits, so the more you sip, the more value you get from your drink package.

Bottled water

Many cruisers don't like the taste of the ship's tap water. If you fall into that category, bottled water is another great beverage package buy, even if it's not the most earth-friendly option.

Grab a sealed bottle from the poolside bar to bring back to your deck chair so you can stay hydrated while you sunbathe. Collect bottles from the onboard bars to stash in your cabin so you can drink them after a shipboard pub crawl or throw them in your day pack when you head off the ship.

Prefer sparkling water with dinner? You can order it with no second thoughts when you have a beverage package.

Embarkation day drinks

Do you feel a little awkward making a beeline for the bar as soon as you step inside a cruise ship on embarkation day? You definitely should not feel this way if you've purchased a beverage package. The packages are priced by the length of your cruise, and embarkation day counts.

Grab a celebratory bubbly to mark the start of your cruise. Start your vacation with a glass of wine to unwind. It's five o'clock somewhere, and skipping out on embarkation day drinks means you're paying for a full day of beverage service you are not using. You might as well change that up and get more bang for your buck.

Related: 27 cruise ship embarkation day do's and don'ts

Frozen drinks on private islands

Like I said earlier, cruise lines price their beverage packages by the day, and you can't prorate the pricing to skip port days when you're hardly on the ship. Most of us can't party all night after touring in the sun all day, which makes it hard to break even on the package cost on port days.

The bars on certain cruise line private islands — Royal Caribbean's Perfect Day at CocoCay , Norwegian's Great Stirrup Cay and MSC Cruises' Ocean Cay — let you use your drink package ashore. (Half Moon Cay and Harvest Caye do not.) That pina colada set against a palm tree backdrop will jazz up your social media feed and is a great choice for making your beverage package worthwhile.

Related: How to get free or cheap drinks on a cruise

Other nonalcoholic beverages

Some lines, such as Carnival and Princess Cruises , limit passengers to 15 alcoholic drinks per day, which can make it harder to break even on the package costs. Make the plan cost-effective (and drink responsibly) by interspersing your bar drinks with nonalcoholic options, such as soda, energy drinks, freshly squeezed juices and other bottled beverages like Gatorade or Honest Tea.

Even better, if you can purchase resealable or unopened bottles or cans, you can save them to take off the ship in port. That strategy will help you get full value from your drink package on days you're mainly off the ship.

3 drinks to avoid

You don't really need to avoid any drinks when you have a beverage package, but some choices aren't as useful as others for making the package cost-effective. If you can, go easy on the following drinks — or reconsider whether that beverage package is the right choice for you in the first place.

Beer is usually the cheapest alcoholic drink on board, and it can be filling. If you only drink beer, you might find it more difficult to reach the break-even point for your drink package. (Others will have no trouble downing eight or more beers a day.) Whether you crave craft brews or stick to Bud Light, ask if your cruise line has a cheaper beer-and-wine-only package (such as Windstar Cruises ' Topmast Discoveries Beer & Wine Package) that might make more sense for you.

Well drinks

If your drinks are already paid for, you have no incentive to order cheap well drinks when you can get name-brand liquor for the same price. If you don't specify which vodka or rum you want, the bartender will give you the most basic option. Call out your booze by name, and if you're not sure, ask the bartender which bottles are included in your package. This tip is especially true if you've paid extra for the priciest, most inclusive drink package your cruise line offers.

Bottles of wine

It's true that you will get a 20% to 40% discount on bottles of wine with most cruise line drink packages. But you're still paying extra for alcohol when you have already paid for wine by the glass, beer and cocktails. Filling up on extra-fee wine might prevent you from ordering as many additional drinks as you normally would, keeping you from breaking even on your package price. Stick to wine by the glass, and you can get all your vino without plunking down more cash.

Sure, you can't get all the same vintages by the glass as you can order by the bottle, and you might want a nice wine to celebrate a special occasion. If you intend to order several bottles of wine during your cruise, you might be better off with a wine-only package instead of a broader alcoholic beverage package.

Bottom line

Most people who purchase a cruise drink package will order a variety of alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages each day. However, if you're set on getting the most value from your package purchase, you'll want to be smart about which drinks you order. If you're not at least breaking even with your wine, beer, soda, coffee and cocktail orders, you might want to rethink whether you've chosen the right beverage package for your drinking style.

Travel agent reveals amount of alcohol you need to drink to make cruise drinks package worth it

Travel agent reveals amount of alcohol you need to drink to make cruise drinks package worth it

There's a very specific point where you start having 'free drinks', so to speak.

Tom Earnshaw

Tom Earnshaw

A travel agent who specialises in cruise ship holidays has revealed all when it comes to drink packages and if they're really worth it.

Those heading on a cruise ship can make the experience truly immersive and all-inclusive by upgrading to premium drinks packages .

The prices can differ significantly depending on who you're sailing with and what you're booking. P&O Cruises will cost you between £44.95 and £54.95 per day for its alcohol packages. In comparison, Royal Caribbean's booze option is around $89 (£71) a day.

Then there's the alcohol-free packages, which for P&O are £24.95 a day or up to $38 (£30) a day with the likes of Royal Caribbean.

Sure, it's not for everyone and they add to a cruising experience that certainly isn't cheap . One former cruise-worker-come-traveller even explains why she would never pay for one again .

But they are chosen by so many travellers year in, year out, that some people might feel peer pressured into it from the off.

Well, listen to the experts is our advice. And over on TikTok , one travel agent has revealed all when it comes to making that big decision.

Elisa, who runs The Paradise Travel Group , has posted a handy explainer to all her viewers that's been viewed thousands of times already.

Lots of travellers question whether they should purchase the drinks package on a cruise. (Getty Stock Image)

"As a travel agent that specialises in cruises the number one question I get is 'should I purchase the drinks package?'" Elisa says .

"Let's talk about it. On average, the drink package typically pays off once you've had about six or seven drinks per day on your cruise. That's typically the point in which you're going to break even with your drink package.

"Now any drink above and beyond that is what you're benefiting from when you're purchasing the drink package. You're almost getting them for free.

"If you're the type of person that knows they're going to drink probably less than six to seven drinks per day, then that's the point in which you really want to ask yourself if the drink package is worth it for you.

Delicious. (Getty Stock Image)

"Because nine times out of ten, at that point it is just going to be less expensive to go a la carte for all your drinks. The one exception I say to this is if you are looking to go in to your cruise with an all inclusive mindset, you don't want to have to think about the drink prices, you don't want to have to worry, you want to know that it is prepaid and you can get whatever you want.

"In that case yes it's probably worth it to just splurge and get the drink package."

Elisa also shares a handy hack when it comes to getting the best price for your package, with the cost of them fluctuating significantly prior to sailing as cruise lines put on sales.

A cruise ship in port. (Getty Stock Image)

Well, you can take advantage of this. Elisa says: "The cruise lines totally vary but something I tell my clients is, especially on Royal Caribbean, those drink package prices are going to fluctuate a lot from the time you book your cruise up until the day of your cruise.

"It's always cheaper to purchase the drink package before your cruise but the day on which you purchase it might be a bit more expensive than two weeks later when they throw in a great sale.

"A lot of people don't know that these cruise add ons are refundable. So if you purchase the drink package and then three weeks go by... you find the drink package has dropped in price you can cancel your drink package and rebook it for the new lower rate. You can do this up until the week before the cruise."

There's so much more than alcohol too.

With Carnival cruises for example you get speciality coffees, energy drinks, bottled water, teas, and carbonated drinks.

"For Royal Caribbean you're getting all of that plus Johnny Rockets [milkshakes] which is a great perk," Elisa says.

"And for Celebrity Cruise Lines Premium drink package you're getting specialty coffees, teas, bottled water, mocktails."

So before booking, it's worth thinking how much you're actually going to drink and weighing up the costs.

Please drink responsibly. If you want to discuss any issues relating to alcohol in confidence, contact Drinkline on 0300 123 1110, 9am–8pm weekdays and 11am–4pm weekends for advice and support .

Princess Cruises is taking a page out of the ultra-luxury cruise industry with new all-inclusive, $3,000 cabins

  • Princess Cruises says its new Sun Princess and upcoming Star Princess will have all-inclusive cabins.
  • Guests who've booked the new Sanctuary Collection category would get an inclusive package and private lounge.
  • It's a move that could appeal to ultra-luxury cruisers .

Insider Today

If you want to go on an all-inclusive vacation at sea, you no longer need to book an ultra-luxury, ultra-expensive cruise line .

Just sail on Princess Cruises' new ship instead.

In October, Princess says its two-month-old Sun Princess will debut in the US with the company's first-ever Sanctuary Collection, an adult-only lounge exclusive to guests who've booked one of the collection's high-end cabins. These luxurious accommodations comprise 10% of the ship's 2,157 staterooms, including all its suites.

But the Sanctuary's biggest perk arguably isn't the lounge's private pool and restaurant — it's the all-inclusiveness , a rarity among mass-market cruise lines.

It's the Carnival Corp. brand's latest appeal to ultra-luxury cruisers

Mass-market cruise lines like Princess, Royal Caribbean, and Norwegian typically follow the " budget airline " strategy: charge a cheap base fare and offer plenty of irresistible up-charged amenities (like specialty restaurants, as is the case of Sun Princess).

It's a stark contrast to the high-end cruise industry, where all-inclusivity is often considered the standard.

For example, luxury cruise line Explora Journey's fare includes alcoholic beverages, WiFi, and access to the spa — amenities that would typically cost extra on ships like Sun Princess. On Regent Seven Seas , all this, plus excursions, pre-cruise hotels, and roundtrip flights are also included in the cost to sail.

Related stories

Over the last few years, Princess has begun following in these high-end cruise lines' foosteps.

In 2022, it launched Princess Premier, an optional inclusive package covering amenities like WiFi, drinks, some upcharged restaurants, and workout classes. It's the same package Sanctuary Collection guests would get, along with the private restaurant and adult-only lounge with cabanas, a pool, and private events.

The exclusive lounge concept is nothing new. Royal Caribbean's two largest cruise liners have a "neighborhood" exclusive to suite guests. The same applies to Norwegian, Celebrity, and MSC Cruises' vessels.

However, while these competing retreats offer perks like drink packages, WiFi, or private restaurants, none are as "inclusive" as Princess'.

In 2024, Sun Princess' Sanctuary cabins start at more than $3,000 per person for a weeklong Caribbean cruise in mid-December. To compare, the cheapest interior cabin for the same itinerary starts shy of $700 per person.

The cruise line says its next ship, Star Princess, which will debut in late September 2025, will also carry the Sanctuary Collection.

Following in the footsteps of high-end, all-inclusive cruise lines could be a wise decision for Princess. These luxury vacations at sea have become increasingly popular as travelers continue to spend big on their trips.

Like Princess, expedition cruise company HX recently shifted to an all-inclusive model as well.

Back on dry land, hotel giants like Hyatt and Marriott have also seen a boom in these "everything free" resorts .

Apparently, every vacationer — whether on water or solid ground — just wants one thing: stress-free poolside lounging with bottomless drinks.
