Pig Island itself is very busy and over crowded. It is dirty and the shop is very expensive. The lunch they include is not good, you get some vegetables, ONE overcooked chicken wing, rice and some fruit. Not worth it. Was worried about pick up a few days beforehand as I hadn't heard from GoJo at all. I called them many times but the line was always busy. I emailed and also tried to reach them on Facebook messenger. Never heard anything. I ended up hoping that they would come pick us up. They didn't. This wasn't so, all the pigs were around the food areas. You can buy bags of pellets and bottles of water to feed the pigs, there are a lot of little ones which are so cute. Where the boats moor, I couldn't believe all the litter that has washed up and makes the place look a bit dirty. There's also puppies running around, don't know why they feel the need to breed them, is it just for tourists. The beach on this island is beautiful, the sand is lovely and the water too. We didn’t have enough space for our legs and we couldn’t help to lean on the stranger next to you. One of the engines was not running right so the Captain kept revving the motor which caused gas fumes to permeate the cabin. Many participants became nauseous. Our daughters enjoyed seeing the pigs but it was not a place to hang out on the beach as the photos portrayed. The restaurant was very basic (we didn't eat there). The speed boat trip we took was very short about 10 mins. It was a good experience and the lunch provided was very good. The crew couldn’t speak a lot of English but we all seemed to get by. The staff were wonderful - very helpful and patient accommodating mobility issues within my group. It was a nice small group too (approx 10). The timing was good - enough time to play with the pigs, have a swim, take a hundred photos, and enjoy a pina colada! The snorkelling was fun too - perhaps not as impressive as other snorkelling spots but still a good time. Lunch was served back on the dock rather than on one of the islands but still beautiful and they catered specifically for us vegetarians. Overall, a great experience. Door to door this was a 7 and a half hour trip, we were the only pick up going and there was one drop off on our return.  Our pick up time was changed from 9 to 8am meaning we had over an hour wait at the boat jetty.  The speedboat trip is  about 20 minutes and pretty uneventful,  you can't see anything as you are below windows. We had been to pig Island a few years before but there are now many more pigs who leave behind what pigs do - naturally.  You get about 2 hours on the island.  Some tours provide lunch there,  this one doesn't-  you get lunch on your return to the jetty at about 2pm, so have breakfast. The facilities, toilets on the island are a disgrace,  go before you go!  Then you are back on the boat for 5 minutes to the snorkeling place.  Visibility was very poor, ( no one's fault) but in some places the coral is just under the surface and you couldn't see it, so a couple of minor scrapes on those that didn't realise. Back on the boat to the jetty and lunch which was just ok.  But preferable to the facilities on the island.  If I were choosing again I'd opt for a slower boat trip so I could enjoy the trip and scenery.  There are plenty of options available.   Read more Written September 13, 2023

Hatsune Miku Expo Under Fire for Abandoning Hologram for Underwhelming LED TV Experience

The Hatsune Miku Expo 2024 North American tour is under fire for putting the virtual pop star on a TV screen over the traditional hologram experience.

On Thursday, April 4, the Hatsune Miku Expo 2024 North American concert tour rolled out at the Thunderbird Arena in Vancouver, Canada. However, longtime Hatsune Miku fans expecting the traditional hologram experience were presented with an underwhelming TV screen presentation instead.

On social media, Miku Expo 2024 attendees are airing out their grievances over the mishandling of what should have been a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Vocaloid concert performances of Hatsune Miku deploy an optical illusion technique known as a Pepper's Ghost trick to make it appear as if the virtual pop star is performing live on stage. For reasons currently unknown, the North American tour discarded the Pepper's Ghost technique in favor of a plain LED TV. The results, as disappointed attendees have fiercely noted, are not the same. A TikTok video humorously comparing the traditional hologram performance of Hatsune Miku vs. her TV performance has gone viral.

Social media websites like X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, TikTok and Reddit are being flooded with complaints about Miku Expo 2024, warning others not to spend money on tickets that vary between $55-$300. On the official Miku Expo website, there is no mention of using LED TV screens over Hologram performances. However, the gallery page is filled with screenshots of Miku's past hologram performances, making it appear as though North American attendees will experience the same.

Hatsune Miku Fans Demand Refunds From Crypton & Crunchyroll Over North American Expo

As a result, a Change.org petition with over 5,000 signatures has been created to demand refunds from Crypton Future Media and Crunchyroll. Below are a few examples of social media posts calling out Miku Expo 2024 for its lackluster LED TV presentation.

Jojo Siwa Is Trying Too Hard To Shock Us

Before she dropped her song “Karma” on Friday, JoJo Siwa spent several weeks letting the world know that she was done with bows and glittery-y pastels. In March, she posted a parental advisory message on her Instagram grid — teasing a new (and more explicit) era.

It became clear immediately that the 20-year-old was hoping for a rebrand built on shock-value: photos of the openly gay star embracing two girls at once, wearing Kiss-inspired face paint and teasing lyrics about being a “bad girl” were rolled out in the weeks following the content warning. Once it dropped, “Karma” was a major shift from her usual anti-haters empowerment fodder. Instead, Siwa sings about how cheating leads to bad karma, a nod to some romantic drama the singer had been embroiled in not too long ago.

Siwa’s “Karma” wants it too badly. Arguably, Siwa was the biggest network-backed child star since Cyrus and Jonas’ Disney era. While Ariana Grande and Zendaya came out of Nickelodeon and Disney respectively in the years following, both didn’t reach household name status until they left those shows. Siwa, however, had built a children’s entertainment empire with her massive merch deals, YouTube channel, tours and Nickelodeon specials. Her reach was much younger than the child stars who had been famous in the years leading up to her rise; shows like Hannah Montana and Victorious as well as any generation’s boy bands appealed more to the double-digit tween base while Siwa’s content was raking in the kindergarten set who would proudly sport her bedazzled bows and rainbow-emblazoned clothes.

She indicated this in my 2019 interview with her as well, citing Freddie Mercury as her biggest inspiration. “I literally sleep with a piano on my bed,” said. “I do see myself going into more musical music that will be timeless.” She tried her hand at masterminding a young girl group on her reality competition Siwa’s Dance Pop Revolution . Since then, a former member, mother and sources close to production recently spoke to Rolling Stone about the group’s experience, alleging a toxic environment created by Siwa and her mother as well as allegations of bullying and grueling rehearsal hours for the underage performers. (The Siwas denied all allegations in a response via their counsel, alleging that the member’s mother was the abusive one.) Even with the controversy looming, Siwa’s own music career is going full steam ahead, as she is releasing music through a major recording label for the first time.

During that 2019 interview, Siwa also expressed her own feelings on what it looked like for previous generations of child stars, especially the moment when they begin to feel trapped and need to break out of their family-friendly chrysalis. But it seems like relying on tepid shock and hate-watches could be more of a trap for her than any bow-tied high ponytail could have ever been.
