There are two titanic rocks gaps at the way of the post and as of now, some remodel work is in progress to update the structure. There are also some delightful rocky patches which prompt you to indulge in some level of rock climbing! However, there is also a ladder now which makes crossing it far less demanding. Tiger’s Leap is a famous weekend destination, located 8 km away from Lonavala. It offers an astonishing view of the hills and the Western Ghats. It is well-known for its stunning sunrise and sunset view, especially on a clear day. Tiger’s Leap is derived its name as its resemblance of the shape with that of a tiger leaping into the valley.  The stream collects the waterfalls a which is an activity for water adventures like river rafting.

Lonavala

Rajmachi point is a tiny hilly village of Sahyadri mountain. It is at the top tourist list of Lonavala. It is located 6 km from Lonavala railway station on the east Pune-Mumbai state way. Rajmachi has faced many changes from Shivaji Maharaj, Shahu Maharaj, Emperor Aurangzeb, and even in the British era. Rajamachi Point derives its name from the Rajamachi Fort of the famous Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The fort was nestled opposite this point. Bhaja Caves:

Bhaja Caves are considered the oldest caves in India. It is also a popular attraction of this region. The Bhaja caves have been existing since the 22nd century BC, which are a group of 22 rock-cut Buddhist caves . Bhaja caves are look-alike Carla caves in style and architectural designs. There are statues of Surya Narayana and Indra Dev are installed inside the Bhaja cave. There is a group of 14 majestic stupas in Bhaja cave which are the successor of the resident monks who died at Bhaja. There is also a small waterfall presents near the caves, which increases the beauty of this place.

Lohagad Fort is a famous heritage site as well as a tourist spot of Lonavala. Lohagad Fort is a UNESCO world heritage site and is situated at the height of 3400 feet, 11 km from Lonavala. It is a historic fort located on the Sahyadri hills in the Lonavala in Maharashtra, India. Lohagad Fort was constructed in the 18th century and is a perfect destination for trekking and nature lovers, and adventure lovers. Lohagad Fort is a massive structure that was once under the control of the Maratha Empire. Famous Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj used to keep his treasury in this fort .

Karla Caves:

Karla Caves is one of the famous and oldest Buddhist cave shrines in the country and is a beautiful place to visit in Lonavala. This cave is also called Karli Caves , Karle Caves , or Karla Cells . These caves have one of the largest Chaityas or prayer halls with a stupa in India. Karla Caves is well-known for the Ekvira Temple located inside. This cave was formerly known as Veluraka . Karla Caves has a major 15 – meter pillar along with a temple that is dedicated to Goddess Ekveera.

Ekvira Devi Temple:

Lonavala Hill Station – Lonavala Tourist Places

Lonavala Hill Stattion which has been aptly dubbed the Jewel of Sahyadri Mountains features various health resorts and is only 5 kilometers away from the Khandala Hill Station. At an altitude of just about 625 meters above sea level and only 100 kilometers away from Mumbai, Lonovala is an excellent choice for a weekend get away from the hustle and bustle of the urban Mumbai City scene. There is also a series of caves that one should check out near Lonovala which were hand cut by Buddhist monks.

During the months between June and Semptember, the monsoons that hit the region are usually fairly strong and even build up to the point that a 100 foot waterfall is created nearby. The winter months which fall between November and February while cold are still bearable and there is always something that you can find to do. The best time though is during the summer months that fall between April and June when the weather is just amazingly perfect.

Offering an awe inspiring view of the lush and green panorama of the surrounding Sahyadri mountain range, there are a number of great vantage points for which to choose from or you can just opt to see them all. The area around Lonovala is filled with a wide variety of plant and animal life as well as a number of mountain lakes to picnic around. Also while you are checking out the lakes, you might as well stop by the Walvan Dam.

There is also a famous resort and spa nearby called the Kaivalyadhama Yoga Hospital and in conjunction with the ancient Bhaja Caves which were hand cut by Buddhist monks into the rock faces, one can seek enlightenment on this hill station. Furthermore, there are quite a few yoga training centers throughout Lonovala.

If you are not into yoga and prefer a more adrenalin packed experience, you can make your way over to Duke’s Nose where you will be able to try some rock climbing. There is also several other locations around Lonovala like the Karla Hills where you can also get some rock climbing practice in.

When it comes to visiting Lonovala, getting there is not the issue; it is having to go when your time is up. With so many things to see and do around this hill station, it is always worth a return trip to make sure that you can see everything there is to see.
