Death to All (Death Tribute) Announce “The Scream of Perseverance Tour”

Cryptopsy will provide support on the extensive North American outing

Death to All (Death Tribute) Announce “The Scream of Perseverance Tour”

Death to All — the all-star tribute outfit honoring the band Death and its late frontman Chuck Schuldiner — have announced a 2024 North American tour that will celebrate two eras of the legendary death metal act. The trek will feature support from Cryptopsy.

The outing, dubbed “The Scream of Perseverance Tour,” will find Death to All performing two shows in most cities. The first night will feature the band playing the classic Scream Bloody Gore in full, as well as classic tunes from Leprosy and Spiritual Healing . The second night will find the band performing The Sound of Perseverance  in its entirety, along with songs from Human , Individual Thought Patterns , and Symbolic . In cities where Death to All play only one concert, the shows will feature an all-encompassing “greatest classics” setlist.

The tour kicks off with a two-night stand at the Milwaukee Metal Fest on May 18th and 19th, and runs through a June 29th show in Phoenix. A Live Nation pre-sale is under way using the code ENERGY , while general sales start Friday (February 9th) at 10 a.m. local time via Ticketmaster . Fans can also check for deals or pick up tickets to sold-out shows via StubHub , where your purchase is 100% guaranteed through StubHub’s Fan Protect program.

Death to All’s band members include singer-guitarist Max Phelps (Exist, Cynic), drummer Gene Hoglan (Dark Angel, Testament, Dethklok), bassist Steve DiGiorgio (Testament, Sadus), and guitarist Bobby Koelble (Death).

“We’ll be joined by our good friends, the legendary Cryptopsy, who have some special plans of their own for this tour,” stated Hoglan. “Death to All is extremely pleased to be bringing these special nights to the fans of the one and only Chuck Schuldiner… as only Death to All can…his entire DEATH legacy! As Chuck liked to say, ‘Let the Metal flow.’ You’ll want to catch every night possible.”

Everyone was fantastic. Max does an incredible job doing the vocals. If you’re a fan of Death I highly recommend going!!

No more all ages would be great!

The show was amazing, I only had one issue. All ages, resulting in kids crowd surfing which resulted in a concussion I got when someone crowd surfing from behind me landed all 100+ lbs on my head because I didn't know they were coming. Staff was amazing in how they handled it, again bands were awesome but it's been a rough few days since. That's the only reason for the 4 stars, everything else was 5 stars.

It was an awesome concert. It sounded really good.

What an amazing show

Steve Bobby Max and Gene brought the energy and love to everyone there. And we all felt it! Thank you again, guys! Cheers to everyone that attended also!

I think the show was great, but I still very much resent Live Nation's business practice, as it hurts both the artists and the industry as a whole. You guys asked for a review, well here it is.

Show was awesome seeing Death to all was killer and always great seeing Suffocation and Nukem was an awesome live

Best show in a while

Suffocation destroyed as always and the sound was phenomenal! And Death to All was Amazing and sounded great as well!

Perfect tribute to the band Death. So glad to hear these songs again live and the band was very tight. Older classics sounded amazing, and we sure hope you come back again for the Symbolic 30 year anniversary tour.

Moshing with Banana Man!

Opening acts were very strong. Every Death song sounded recording studio quality and precise. DiGiorgio played the whole set on a 3 string bass and best of all there, was a guy dressed in a full size BANANA suit in the crowd. In guitarist Bobby’s own words, “that guy sure has appeal!!!”

Unfortunately in 2001, metal music lost a very well respected artist, Chuck Suldiner, the guitarist and vocalist for the American metal band, Death. But fear not metal world, because Death DTA tours has come together to bring you the best of the tribute bands for Death. According to their facebook page, “The DEATH DTA tours was randomly named to make it clear that it is not an attempt to re-launch DEATH but is a tribute to Chuck & DEATH by the people who knew Chuck - his musicians, family & manager.“

Regardless of what exactly it is made up of, it is an opportunity to rock out and mosh to a great band that deserves only the best tribute. The tour does an extremely good job of delivering exactly what Death fans are looking for and it is done with the upmost respect. There is still just as much face-melting, guitar rocking, sometimes overwhelming (but in the best way possible) music from Death that is executed almost to the tee. Since I have never seen Death live before the unfortunate passing of Chuck, I can’t compare, but I can say that it was a show and an experience, one that I do not regret having.

DEATH TO ALL Feat. GENE HOGLAN And STEVE DIGIORGIO: March/April 2023 North American Tour Announced

DEATH TO ALL ( DTA ) — which features former members of DEATH celebrating the life and music of Chuck Schuldiner — will embark on a North American tour in March. The trek will kick off on March 2 in Seattle, Washington and will conclude on April 1 in Denver, Colorado. Support on the tour will come from SUFFOCATION and NUKEM .

Tour dates:

Mar. 02 - Seattle, WA @ El Corazon Mar. 04 - Portland, OR @ Hawthorne Theatre Mar. 06 - Sacramento, CA @ Goldfield Trading Post Mar. 08 - Los Angeles, CA @ The Belasco Mar. 09 - Santa Ana, CA @ The Observatory Mar. 11 - San Diego, CA @ Brick By Brick Mar. 12 - Mesa, AZ @ The Nile Theater Mar. 14 - Austin, TX @ Come and Take It Live Mar. 15 - Dallas, TX @ Amplified Live Mar. 16 - Houston, TX @ White Oak Music Hall Mar. 17 - New Orleans, LA @ The House Of Blues Mar. 18 - Tampa, FL @ The Orpheum Mar. 19 - Atlanta, GA @ The Masquerade Mar. 21 - Greensboro, NC @ Hangar 1819 Mar. 22 - Baltimore, MD @ Baltimore Sound Stage Mar. 23 - Philadelphia, PA @ Underground Arts Mar. 25 - Boston, MA @ The Middle East Mar. 26 - Montreal, QC @ Corona Theatre Mar. 27 - Toronto, ON @ The Opera House Mar. 28 - Flint, MI @ The Machine Shop Mar. 29 - Chicago, IL @ House Of Blues Mar. 30 - Minneapolis, MN @ Skyway Theatre Apr. 01 - Denver, CO @ The Summit Music Hall

The current lineup of DEATH TO ALL includes Gene Hoglan (also of TESTAMENT , DARK ANGEL , DETHKLOK ), Steve DiGiorgio ( TESTAMENT , CONTROL DENIED , SADUS ) on bass and Bobby Koelble on guitar. Max Phelps ( CYNIC ),who has been touring with DEATH TO ALL , is once again handling the vocal and second-guitar duties.

In a 2014 interview with Metal Rules , DiGiorgio was asked what DEATH TO ALL means to him. He responded: "Our formulated answer is that it is a tribute memorializing the memory of Chuck . To me, it means getting back with buddies. And you've seen their lineup change a little bit here, we had Paul [ Masvidal ] and Sean [ Reinert ] from CYNIC . We had Shannon Hamm in for a while. And now Gene and Bobby . I've jammed with all these guys over the years. They're pretty much some of the best musicians in the world. At least in my opinion."

He continued: "We did those albums back in the day, and when our cycle was over, and when whoever lasted however long, we went our own ways. Now we're back together again and it's cool, from my point of view, to do music with some of the best, amazing musicians/guys in the world. It's awesome. And we have a lot of fun every night, man, because we all realize that not only did we make a statement 20-something years ago, but here we are 20-something years later in our mid-40s playing that stuff as we did as young men. It's kind of, like, yay us. Because we are only just a few years off of 50 and we're playing this music we did just turning the corner into 20 and we're doing it pretty good. And that's not a brag. The reason is we push each other. Somebody falls a little bit behind and this guy's right behind him. You don't want to let your guard down, because everybody's really good at what they do. And that's what it means to me, man. It means to carry on what we did back then with no idea where we'd be in the future, and here we are doing it with conviction."

Schuldiner died on December 13, 2001 after a battle with pontine glioma, a rare type of brain tumor.

In recent years, DEATH 's storied catalog has undergone a meticulous reissue campaign via Relapse Records .

Relapse released the first-ever fully authorized DEATH tab book, featuring 21 classic songs tabbed out for guitar from the band's entire discography. The book, which includes traditional notation as well as tablature, also comes with a digital download of all tracks.

In a 2011 interview with Bass Musician magazine, DiGiorgio stated about working with Schuldiner : "Sometimes people make good music together, and sometimes they vibe like yin and fucking yang. Chuck is credited with a lot of things in the music world (metal world, of course),but one thing a lot of people don't know much about is how aware he was. What I mean is that he was a good listener. If I thought of a wacky bassline to something he was writing, before I could even try to explain why it came to me, he was already ahead of it and looking for something on the next part. He had a good sense of when to hold me back and when to push me. It was great to have someone, especially the 'main man' of the band not only appreciate what I contributed but also help me find my inner demon to conjure even sicker and more abstract things to play. There really was some math going on in that roiling storm sometimes."

Napalm Death are credited as pioneers of the grindcore genre by incorporating elements of crust punk and death metal, using a noise-filled sound that uses heavily distorted, down-tuned guitars, grinding overdrive bass, high speed tempo, blast beats, and vocals which consist of incomprehensible growls, or high-pitched shrieks, extremely short songs, fast tempos, and sociopolitical lyrics.

Even after exerting an indelible influence on the entire world of heavy music for nearly 40 years, there is still no band on Earth that sounds like Napalm Death. Not just the pioneers, but an enduring benchmark for invention and fearlessness in heavy and experimental music of all kinds, the Birmingham legends are still hurtling forward at full pelt.

Rolling Stones Kick-Start ‘Hackney Diamonds’ Tour With Thrilling Houston Concert

By Andy Greene

Andy Greene

Over the past couple of decades, the Rolling Stones have looked for any reason to hit the road besides the release of a new album of original songs. They’ve launched tours celebrating their 50th anniversary, reissues of select archival records, the 2016 covers LP Blue & Lonesome , and their 60th anniversary. Some years they headed out on the stadium circuit for no particular reason whatsoever, knowing a Stones tour is a major event in and of itself.

The first step was Houston’s NRG Stadium on Sunday night. After a strong opening set by Gary Clark Jr. that centered around his new LP, JPEG Raw , the band took the stage to the familiar opening notes of “Start Me Up.” This is the first time Mick Jagger has faced a stadium crowd since his 80th birthday last year, but his voice and body seem like they stopped aging sometime around Steel Wheels . It’s almost impossible to fully believe until you see it in person. (“People say Joe Biden is too old to be president,” an elderly woman behind me said early in the night. “They need to look at Mick!”)

Editor’s picks

Every awful thing trump has promised to do in a second term, the 250 greatest guitarists of all time, the 500 greatest albums of all time, the 50 worst decisions in movie history.

He wasn’t kidding. The 1965 Aftermath track wasn’t played live once until their 2022 European tour, and this was the first time it crossed the Atlantic. But it’s not something you hear much on classic rock radio, and the audience reaction was pretty muted at first. “I don’t think you really knew it,” Jagger said at the end. “But you got to know it as it went along.”

The Hackney Diamonds portion of the evening began at this point with leadoff single “Angry,” which popped onstage much like it did during their surprise album release show at the New York club Racket last year. “Beast of Burden” won the fan vote for the night, and it provided veteran backup Stones singer Bernard Fowler with a much-deserved spotlight moment. “You’ve got one more vote in November,” Jagger said. “Don’t forget to vote then too. What to play now? Something old … something new.”

Watch the Rolling Stones Play 'Time Is on My Side' With Irma Thomas at Jazz Fest

Rolling stones unveil 'hackney diamonds' edition of band's crossfire hurricane rum, neil young stuns at 2024 tour launch, unveils lost 'cortez the killer' verse.

At the midway point of every Rolling Stones concert in recent memory, Jagger introduces the band one by one before heading offstage so Keith Richards can sing a couple of songs. For some reason, perhaps to squeeze more new songs into the set without cutting any of the standards, Richards was limited to just a single tune. He made it count by singing 1981’s “Little T & A” for the first time since 2016, though it was disappointing he didn’t get a chance to break out “Tell Me Straight” from Hackney Diamonds . It feels inevitable that’ll happen before this tour ends.

Jagger returned for “Sympathy for the Devil” and “Gimme Shelter,” which gave new background singer Chanel Haynes a chance to emerge from the wings and show off her stunning pipes. She first entered Stones World in 2022 when Sasha Allen, their previous background singer, couldn’t make a Milan show. Haynes was playing the lead role in the West End musical Tina at the time, and she parachuted in at the last second to save the show. This frustrated the producers of Tina , who fired her for handing the show off to her understudy that night when she wasn’t ill, but it impressed the Stones enough to hire her for this tour.

The main set wrapped up with “Honky Tonk Women,” “Miss You,” “Paint It Black,” and “Jumpin’ Jack Flash.” These are songs they’ve done hundreds and hundreds of times for good reason. The hardcores may yearn for deeper cuts like “Memory Motel” or “Moonlight Mile,” but Jagger knows they’d cause many people to sit down and start scrolling through Instagram. And when you have a song like “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” in your repertoire, you simply have to play it every time you do a gig.

“Sweet Sounds of Heaven,” one of the finest songs on Hackney Diamonds , kicked off the brief encore set. If it wasn’t challenging enough to channel Merry Clayton a few songs back, Haynes had to now deliver Lady Gaga’s soaring vocal parts from the original recording. Unsurprisingly, she crushed it. For a moment, it really felt like witnessing a scene from some alternate-universe version of A Star Is Born.

The night closed out with a joyous “Satisfaction,” meaning they played just three songs from Hackney Diamonds. That’s typical for a tour in support of a latter-day Rolling Stones album, but this one really deserved more. They dropped “Midnight Rambler,” one of the Richards songs, and the acoustic set to make room for the three new ones in the show, but it be worth further restructuring to squeeze in “Whole Wide World,” “Bite My Head Off,” and “Tell Me Straight.” These are stellar songs that deserve a spot in the set, even if it means tossing aside “Paint It Black” or “You Can’t Always Get What You Want” sometimes.

“It is with great sadness that I share the news of the passing of my long-time collaborator and dear friend Richard Tandy,” the statement read. “He was a remarkable musician & friend and I’ll cherish the lifetime of memories we had together.”

The post also featured snaps of the two musicians together, as well as a video of Tandy playing the piano while Lynne sang and played the guitar.

“So sorry to hear of the passing of Richard Tandy. I loved this stripped down version of ‘Telephone Line’ that you did with him,” one person commented, while a second wrote, “Terrible loss Condolences to you and the Tandy family.....sending love, hugs and prayers of comfort for all of you We will cherish our memories of him as well.”

Meanwhile, another added, “So sorry to hear this. My condolences to you for losing a friend and to his family. Richard was an incredible talent and a huge part of ELO. His presence in ELO will be missed.”

The BBC reported that Tandy first joined the band after the group released their debut album in 1972. While he initially played the bass guitar, he became the group’s keyboardist after the exit of Roy Wood.

Tandy was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2017 thanks to the many years of being Electric Light Orchestra’s keyboardist.

The band also marked its 50th anniversary in 2021 after forming in Birmingham, England in 1970.

Russia arrests another suspect in the concert hall attack that killed 144

  • Copy Link copied

`MOSCOW (AP) — A Moscow court has detained another suspect as an accomplice in the attack by gunmen on a suburban Moscow concert hall that killed 144 people in March, the Moscow City Courts Telegram channel said Saturday.

Dzhumokhon Kurbonov, a citizen of Tajikistan, is accused of providing the attackers with means of communication and financing. The judge at Moscow’s Basmanny District Court ruled that Kurbonov would be kept in custody until May 22 pending investigation and trial.

Russian state news agency RIA Novosti said Kurbonov was reportedly detained on April 11 for 15 days on the administrative charge of petty hooliganism. Independent Russian media outlet Mediazona noted that this is a common practice used by Russian security forces to hold a person in custody while a criminal case is prepared against them.

Twelve defendants have been arrested in the case, including four who allegedly carried out the attack at the Crocus City Hall concert venue, according to RIA Novosti.

Those four appeared in the same Moscow court at the end of March on terrorism charges and showed signs of severe beatings. One appeared to be barely conscious during the hearing. The court ordered that the men, all of whom were identified in the media as citizens of Tajikistan, also be held in custody until May 22.

A faction of the Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for the massacre in which gunmen shot people who were waiting for a show by a popular rock band and then set the building on fire. But Russian officials including President Vladimir Putin have persistently claimed, without presenting evidence, that Ukraine and the West had a role in the attack.

Ukraine denies involvement and its officials claim that Moscow is pushing the allegation as a pretext to intensify its fighting in Ukraine .
