Camel cancel 2023 Europe and UK live dates

Back surgery for mainman Andy Latimer scuppers Camel's The Final Chapter live dates

Andy Latimer

UK prog legends  Camel have announced that they have cancelled their upcoming live dates as guitarist and singer Andy Latimer requires urgent back surgery.

The band were originally due to head out on their The Final Chapter tour across Europe in May with UK dates following in June . However last night the band announced on their website these had now been cancelled.

In a statement on the band's website they said: "It is with great sadness and regret that Camel Productions must announce the cancellation of Camel's 2023 tour.  Shortly after rehearsals, Andrew Latimer became troubled by a sharp pain in his lower back that advanced into his leg and foot.  He was sent for diagnostic tests which quickly revealed a severe condition that requires urgent surgery.  Recovery time is uncertain and it is this uncertainty that prevents us looking at other options such as postponement. However recovery is suggested to take 8-12 weeks minimum so there is no possibility of Andrew continuing with the tour. And without Andrew, there can be no tour so cancellation is unavoidable.   "We know this news will be immensely upsetting to fans as it is to the band.  We are all so grateful for the support of fans who purchased tickets and particularly appreciative of the many emails from fans near and afar who shared their excitement.  hroughout his career, Andrew Latimer has had numerous physical challenges on tours and has always overcome them. Camel look to the future for another opportunity to write The Final Chapter."

Latimer famously recovered from the rare bone marrow cancer myelofibrosis, from which he suffered throughout the early part of the 2000s, with the band returning to touring in 2013.

Camel-50-Years-Strong-Tour

UK prog legends Camel have announced a short run of English and Scottish tour dates for 2023, under the banner of ’50 Years Strong’. Of course Camel formed in 1971 but released their self-titled debut album in 1973.

The current line-up features founding member Andy Latimer alongside long-standing bass player Colin Bass and drummer Denis Clement and more recent addition Peter Jones (Tiger Moth Tales, Cyan) on keyboards.

These will be the band’s first live dates for five years, since they celebrated the release of 1975’s Moonmadness , culminating in a stunning show at London’s Royal Albert Hall in September 2018. Tickets and further information about all the shows is available from the band’s official website .

‘In The Land Of Grey And Pink’: Caravan Evoke A ‘Middle Earth Sunset’

‘cyclone’: tangerine dream add new layers of flavor, ‘the snow goose’: camel hit their mid-1970s stride with instrumental masterwork.

Pioneers in the field of the ambitious concept album and masters of progressive rock, not to mention their facility with space jams and symphonic structures, Camel have been a fixture on the scene since the young group formed in the early 1970s. Still thrilling their fans today – they’ve been touring their classic The Snow Goose and playing it in its entirety – Camel is one of those names that everyone knows but may not yet have discovered.

Their legacy is there for all to bear witness – tribute acts and groups directly inspired by their work exist in Japan and Norway, and their British fan base remains as solid as ever. The chance to revisit them or to enjoy their music for the first time gives added piquancy to a formidable catalogue which features the original core line-up and subsequent ensembles boosted by top-notch specialists.

Camel’s ’50 Years Strong’ England and Scotland tour dates for 2023 include the following shows:

Jun 2: Manchester O2 Apollo Jun 3: Edinburgh Usher Hall Jun 6: Southampton O2 Guildhall Jun 7: Aylesbury Friars Waterside Jun 8: Birmingham Symphony Hall Jun 10: London Eventim Apollo.

camel tour 2023 cancelled

CAMEL Lift Up A Massive Box Set

2023 marks the 50th anniversary of CAMEL ‘s self-titled debut longplay, one of the most memorable statements in the field of prog-rock with instrumental slant, and what’s a better way to celebrate this date than to embark on a tour and compile a great box set? Unfortunately, the ensemble had to cancel their 2023 concert trek due to leader, Andy Latimer’s surgery – which was successful – yet the massive collection of the band’s classic era material will be issued on May 26th.

What is to be put out under the title “Air Born: The MCA & Decca Years 1973-1984” to span a little more than the first decade of the group’s existence comprises a whopping 27 CDs and five Blu-ray discs and includes ten studio albums – half of these featured not only in remastered form but also as new stereo mixes and 5.1 Surround Sound versions – from that period as well as a lot of concert recordings in both audio and video variants, plus lavishly illustrated book with essay and a poster. I tried to attribute all of it as best as I could below, since details on particular discs are scarce, and even the cover artwork is temporary, yet the tracklist is impressive – as is the package’s price which seems to fluctuate around 150 dollars, euro or pounds, depending on the territory. Time to save up, then.

Camel will be on the road again in 2023. I hope to be catching them in Oslo, Stockholm and later in London. I see that this tour also will be called The Final Chapter, so it seems that this one might be a farewell tour. https://www.camelproductions.com/tou...tourdates.html

I guess the US already had our final chapter. Well, glad that Andy is up to touring!

Do not suffer through the game of chance that plays....always doors to lock away your dreams (To Be Over)

I bought tickets for the show in Utrecht. They are not my favorite band but I never get tired of Andys guitar playing.

I guess I'll never understand the quirks and idiosyncrasies of the booking/promotion business. Like... How can it pay for a promoter to bring Camel to Japan for four shows in one club, nothing more... But then no one can profitably bring them to the US? You would think five or six East Coast dates without much travel could generate a similar profit for a promoter here as it apparently does in the land of the rising sun... But I must be missing something, right? Because no one is doing it... Are the Japanese fans willing to pay far more for their tickets than are US fans? Are performance visas cheaper and easier to get in Japan? (I would doubt it, but it's gotta be something...). Does anyone have some factual knowledge about this issue?

But if he still lived here, it would easier for him to mount a US tour. Originally Posted by arturs I guess I'll never understand the quirks and idiosyncrasies of the booking/promotion business. I can only imagine that they recoup part of their expenses through merchandise sales and so maybe they rely on the Japanese to spend more money on CDs, t-shirts, etc. It could also be that if you are playing one show and not traveling, it cuts down on expenses. Moving from city to city, even in the packed northeast, there's going to be some expense with that. Just my own speculation, I have no idea. Just sucks that for another Camel tour, they aren't playing anywhere in the US.

I could go and see them in Southampton (UK) but the tix are very expensive, maybe - we'll see.

His comments that night were something along the lines of "this is the easiest tour I've ever done. I simply followed interstate 95 and hopped off to the nearest venue then hopped back on." Mind you were talking about 1 person with minimum gear etc. vs. a whole band. But he had a point..

I don't know what they get these days, but back in the 00's Camel charged an enormous guarantee to do a show. Most U.S. promoters could simply not afford them. Moving from city to city, even in the packed northeast, there's going to be some expense with that. Just my own speculation, I have no idea. Just sucks that for another Camel tour, they aren't playing anywhere in the US. Well you are correct that Andy/Camel did not really tour the USA when he lived in the Bay Area... But he made 4 lp's while he lived here and toured everyone on those in California. They even had rehearsal gigs here, San Rafael and Lake Tahoe were particularly good. They played San Jose, Palo Alto, San Francisco and Santa Cruz as proper gigs... a few in LA as well. Other that that I beleive it was one show in Virginia and one show in the NYC area. I knew someone on team Camel when they lived here... it really came down not being able to find a promoter. Second thing was the wide open space of the USA and the travel cost because of that.

one of the best things that occurred behind the scenes at Nf 2003 was Andy Latimer imitating my American accent the day after my now infamous party-busting in the hotel suite under his room. He and Susan heard the whole thing through the vent...

Most promoters were not going to have the resources to shell out that kind of money. Someone had asked the question why they did not play more in the U.S.

Aerosmith Announce Rescheduled Dates for Peace Out Farewell Tour

By Andy Greene

Andy Greene

Aerosmith have announced rescheduled dates for their Peace Out farewell tour, which was suspended in September 2023 because Steven Tyler fractured his larynx. This new leg kicks off Sept. 20 in Pittsburgh and wraps up Feb. 26 in Buffalo, New York. They’ll once again be joined by the Black Crowes.

The band announced plans to wrap their career with one final tour in May 2023, but they played a mere three shows before Tyler severely hurt his larynx. “I am heartbroken to not be out there with Aerosmith, my brothers, and the incredible Black Crowes, rocking with the best fans in the world,” he wrote in a message to fans. “I promise we will be back as soon as we can!”

Country star Morgan Wallen arrested in Nashville at Eric Church's Chief's for throwing chair: Police

E leven-time 2023 Billboard Music Award-winning country music performer Morgan Wallen was arrested late Sunday at Chief's, the six-story Nashville honky-tonk recently opened by his business partner and longtime confidant Eric Church.

Wallen has been charged with three counts of reckless endangerment and one count of disorderly conduct.

In a police report, the 30-year-old singer was accused of throwing a chair from the establishment's rooftop down to the street below while the bar just before 11 p.m. Metro Nashville police officers were standing in front of the bar and saw the chair hit the ground just feet from where they were standing, the report said.

Start the day smarter. Get all the news you need in your inbox each morning.

Officers who viewed security footage saw Wallen "lunging and throwing an object over the roof," the report said.

Witnesses said Wallen laughed afterward.

In a statement issued to the Tennessean by Wallen's representatives, Wallen's lawyer, Worrick Robinson of Worrick Robinson Law, noted, "At 10:53 p.m. CT Sunday evening, Morgan Wallen was arrested in downtown Nashville for reckless endangerment and disorderly conduct. He is cooperating fully with authorities."

Wallen was released around 3:30 a.m. Monday on $15,250 bond. He is due in court on May 3, a date that coincides with one of three planned concert dates at Nashville's Nissan Stadium . The singer is scheduled to perform there May 2-4.

No statement has been issued yet about the April 20, 2024, make-up date for his canceled 2023 appearance at Oxford, Mississippi's Vaught-Hemingway Stadium or if his headlining appearance at the Stagecoach Festival on April 28 will be canceled in light of his recent arrest.

Last year, Wallen said he needed vocal rest on April 24, 2023 and canceled that show. It was only 11 dates into his seven-month global tour. He refunded the cost of the tickets.

"I am so sorry, I promise you guys I tried everything I could," he said at the time.

Morgan Wallen's history with Lower Broadway

Wallen has a history of run-ins with the law on Lower Broadway.

On May 24, 2020 , Wallen was arrested for public intoxication and disorderly conduct outside of Kid Rock's honky-tonk in downtown Nashville.

In the arrest warrant, the Metro Nashville Police Department said Wallen got kicked out of Kid Rock's Big Ass Honky Tonk Rock N' Roll Steakhouse at about 11 p.m. for "kicking glass items." On the street, police said he verbally fought with passersby while officers watched.

"Officers gave (Wallen) several opportunities to walk away with his friends, but he refused to walk away," Metro said at the time, noting that he was "a danger to himself and the public."

Wallen recently announced that he will open a Nashville bar called 'This Bar' in 2024 to pay homage to his Tennessee roots. The six-story establishment will be located at 107 4th Avenue North on Lower Broadway and is planned as a live music venue and restaurant.

The bar's title comes from Wallen's 2019 song of the same name, where he sings, "I found myself in this bar / Making mistakes and making new friends."

In a press release announcing the opening, Wallen said, “I sing about finding myself in 'This Bar,' and now it's coming to life. This venue will hold true to everything I love and is inspired by my fans and the way they have embraced me and my music."

Morgan Wallen's 2024 at-present

Sunday saw Wallen not attending CMT's 2024 Music Awards in Austin, Texas .

In response to a 2021 controversy surrounding him being recorded while drunkenly using a racial slur in front of his home, CMT had removed Wallen's music from all of their platforms.

"We do not tolerate or condone words and actions that are in direct opposition to our core values that celebrate diversity, equity & inclusion," CMT representatives said via social media.

Wallen was at Chief's after returning to Nashville from a headlining domestic kick-off for his nationwide "One Night at a Time" tour at Indianapolis' Lucas Oil Stadium on April 4 and 5. Attendance for both of those dates set the venue's attendance record.

Church and Wallen's business interests

Chief's opened on April 5 with the first night of the venue's Country Music Association Entertainer of the Year namesake's "To Beat The Devil" residency. The event was held in the intimate, 400-person Neon Steeple venue.

Church's venue was announced in early 2022, with AJ Capital leading the renovation.

AJ Capital has become a leading real estate developer in Music City during the past decade.

Collaborations with Church for Chief's and Wallen, via his Morgan Wallen Foundation and donors, including Church (via the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee and the Chief Cares Fund) to work on the renovation of North Nashville's historic Club Baron venue are two ways in which they have recently engaged with Nashville's music community.

Also, Church and Wallen recently announced a partnership to acquire and relaunch the 152-year-old Field & Stream outdoor lifestyle brand.

Among the pair's forthcoming Field & Stream-branded concepts are a limited-edition apparel collection and the announcement of an outdoor fall "Field & Stream Music Festival" co-produced by Southern Entertainment.

Prosecutors later abandoned the charges.

Wallen was a double nominee at the 2021 American Music Awards, receiving nods in the favorite male country artist and favorite country album categories.

However, he was barred from attending and accepting awards due to his use of the racial slur.

"Morgan Wallen is a nominee this year based on charting," said the show's producers in a statement. "As his conduct does not align with our core values, we will not be including him on the show in any capacity (performing, presenting, accepting).

"We plan to evaluate his progress in doing meaningful work as an ally to the Black community and will consider his participation in future shows."

During the awards ceremony, host Diddy said he was "uncanceling" Wallen.

Morgan Wallen arrested after throwing chair from rooftop of Nashville bar, police say

Country star Morgan Wallen was arrested on reckless endangerment charges after throwing a chair from the rooftop of a six-story bar in the popular Broadway district of Nashville, Tennessee, on Sunday night, police said.

Wallen, 30, was booked early Monday on three counts of felony reckless endangerment and one count of misdemeanor disorderly conduct, the Metro politan Nashville Police Department said.

He was at country singer Eric Church's new bar, Chief's, and the chair fell close to two police officers on Broadway, police said.

Video from the rooftop showed Wallen “lunging and throwing an object over the roof,” according to his arrest affidavit. Witnesses also told police they were standing to the right of Wallen and “observed him pick up the chair and throw it over him, laughing afterward,” the affidavit said.

He was arrested around 12:30 a.m. Monday. His bond was set at $15,250 and he was released around 3:30 a.m., online Davidson County Jail records show.

Wallen is “cooperating fully with authorities” following his arrest, his attorney Worrick Robinson told NBC News.

Chief's, two blocks from the famed Ryman Auditorium, was celebrating its opening this weekend.

Representatives for Church and the bar were not immediately available for comment.

Wallen, one of country's biggest names, was temporarily shunned from the business in 2021 when he was caught on video shouting a racial slur outside his Tennessee home after a night of partying in Nashville.

“There’s no excuse. I’ve never made an excuse. I never will make an excuse,” Wallen told Billboard in an interview two years after the controversry that nearly derailed his career.

In 2020,  he was pulled as the “Saturday Night Live” musical performer  after he  was seen in TikTok videos  partying without a mask and kissing women, putting him at risk for Covid during the pandemic.
