Yonex RDS 001 Racquets Review

Yonex rds 001 mid:, groundstrokes, last shots from our playtesters.

Chris "A solid playing racquet, but not as sweet as the RDX 500 Mid for this playtester.

Brad "I found the RDS 001 Mid to be a very demanding racquet compared to the RDS 001 Midplus. The Mid was a lot less powerful compared to the Midplus. This one definitely falls into the advanced player's racquet category."

Ryan "Overall for me, this racquet is that racquet that you love for the first hour of play. Then, after an hour, you start to get tired and all of a sudden the racquet seems to be not playing as well! Just a little too much racquet if not playing top competition tennis everyday."

Jon "The RDS 001 Mid would be great for a player looking for low power and good spin potential in a 12 ounce racquet. For me, the RDS 001 Midplus was much more suitable to my playing style."

Granville "This was a nice stick. It offered a good feel with a crisp response. I used my usual Pete Sampras vibe damp during the playtest. Grip seemed a bit smaller than advertised. I'd recommend paying close attention during demoing to ensure you find the right grip size."

Technical Specifications

Babolat rdc ratings, yonex rds 001 midplus:.

Chris "My favorite of the two by far. A very different racquet compared to the Mid and I could feel more Yonex heritage in this one. I was very pleasantly surprised by the performance of this racquet, most notably in the spin department."

Brad "I didn't find anything significant about the RDS 001 Midplus that would make me want to switch from my RDX 500 Midplus. I found that the weight and swingweight of the RDX 500 Midplus, although very slightly different, were better suited to my game. The RDS 001 Midplus just doesn't have that unique feel that the RDX 500 Midplus has when I strike the ball on the sweetspot."

Ryan "Overall, this is a racquet that I could use for prolonged periods of play. However, I liked the Mid better. The spin on this frame is great for serving, but can be a little troubling on returns. Slice will sometimes float too. All in all, a great racquet for players looking to be able to hit more spin on their strokes. For me, I already hit with a lot of spin, so this was a little much."

Jon "The RDS 001 Midplus was night and day different from the mid. I really enjoyed the Midplus and would consider making it my primary racquet."

Granville "Another nice racquet, and could be a stand alone as it is very different than its Mid counterpart."

Yonex RDS 002 or RDS 003?

  • Add to quote

I am a beginner and have already a Prince Ozone 7. The Prince is 27.25" and 105 sq. in. and the swingweight is 325g/11.35oz while the static weight 301g/10.5oz. I want something more compact and headlight. The racquet does not feel heavy but feels bigger than I like. I am 173cm/ 5ft 8" and weigh 67-68kgs/148lbs. Do lots of activities, not very strong in arms but fit. So I want to try something different than the Prince. The Yonex are headlight and also not heavy. I have the feeling that the RDS 003 specs are closer to my Prince Ozone 7 than the RDS 002 . Yonex RDS 002 Yonex RDS 003 Length: 27"/69cm 27.25"/69.2cm Headsize: 98 sq.in. 100 sq. in. I have an inclination towards the Yonex RDS 002 (not the Tour version). Any suggestions, feedback, opinions appreciated.

yonex rds 002 tour specs

both the yonex are similar rackets. the rds003 is slightly closer to your racket in terms of headsize and gives a little more power. with the rds002 you get more control and have to put in a little more effort. really, if you are a beginner and set on one of these 2 rackets, i would recommend the rds003 because its just easier to use

Why am I always attracted to the difficult ones? What I really care is that they are 6pts headlight even when strung, and strung-weight is less or same as swingweight and below 320-315 grams. I know the RDS 003 has larger sweetspot and it is more forgiving but I like the RDS 002 smaller haedsize and length.

a quarter of an inch in length makes very little difference; in fact most people wouldnt notice it. and the difference between a 98sq inch head and a 100sq inch head is minimal. as a beginner there is no way you will be that sensitive to such small differences

For sure you are right about the small differences, but I wonder if going from Prince Ozone to RDS 003 will be a noticeable difference. I am thinking that if you want to leave from something like the Ozone 7 the travel distance to the RDS 003 is not that big.

Yonex: Who uses Yonex Racquets, and which Model by player?

  • Add to quote

I want to learn a lot about these racquets including which models the pros are using, and maybe why a specific model is suited to a type of game. Help me list who is using what, and I'll keep a master list here in the first post. ==================== RQiS 1 Tour XL - Ana Ivanovic RQiS 1 Tour - CoCo Vandeweghe RQiS 2 Tour - Maria Kirilenko, Nicole Vaidisova, (looks like Kimiko Date is using this one) RDS 001 Mid Plus - Elena Dementieva RDS 002 Tour - Michaella Krajicek, Su-Wei Hsieh RDS 003 Mid Plus - Jie Zheng, Aleksandra Wozniak, Tatjana Malek, Alisa Kleybanova, Angelique Kerber, Lauren Albanese, Akiko Morigami, Tiantian Sun RQS 11 - Zi Yan, Ayumi Morita, (isn't this the one Martina Hingis was using?) Of course I've been looking at this a lot. Only a few players are listed by racquets - many more are using Yonex. Still, I'll take what is there for starters.

yonex rds 002 tour specs

CoCo Vandewegh was using the RQ iS Tour 1 at the USOpen. Wozniak and Zheng use the RDS 003. I think Michaella Kraijeck is using a paint job of the RQ iS Tour 1.

Kleybanova- RDS 003 Malek- RDS 003 Kerber- RDS 003 Morigami- (last seen) RDS 003 I can't be sure but I seem to recall Albanese using a RDS 003 as well.

Yonex makes the most incredible sticks. I love them.

yonex rds 002 tour specs

Wow, just realised all four of my favourites are using Yonex now.

yonex rds 002 tour specs

I really loved the RD Ultimatum Ti-80 a few years ago. Love that stick! Yonex racquets are soooo unique! I personally use the RQis 1 Tour which is a perfect combination of power and consistency to me. Mary Pierce still uses the RD Ti-80 I think, just like many other players did...

yonex rds 002 tour specs

i stand by yonex and love my rds 001, me and lena d are so fly with it lmao. seriously i dont think i'll ever switch brands now, love yonex rackets.

^^ I tried to get that racquet to demo, but one shop in town doesn't carry Yonex, and the other doesn't have the racquet yet. (I'd get the Team version, 100 sq in head.)

yonex rds 002 tour specs

Take note that most of the players' racquets (especially top players, like Ivanovic) may be heavily modified and just painted/marketed as a specific racquet.

Yonex RD002 Tour Vs RDiS 200 Vs URD Ti 80

Herve

Dear Players and Yonex fans, I'm a former College player who has started to play serioulsy again after a long hiatus (Life happened, all worth it though!). I am currently based in Dubai, so testing rackets is not an option. I know that feedback can be suggestive, however your input would help me make a decision. I currently use a Yonex RD 002 Tour SL, with Babolat Hurricane (Mains 60) and Excel (Cross 58) strings. I have to say that I *love* this stick, despite the fact that it can be demanding at times and requires a lot of concentration on every shot. After years of playing with RQ series, I found that the RD provides a feel (classic Yonex soft pop) that is much gentler on my ageing arm! I was disappointed that Yonex discontinued the 002 Tour, and the only options are either: RDiS 200 Heavyweight or the recently re-introduced URD Ti 80. Based on your experience, if you were to find a replacement for the 002 Tour, would you go for the URD Ti 80 or the RDiS 200? Which of these provides a similar feel, and is perhaps more forgiving than the 002 Tour? Many thanks in anticipation for your valuable input. Herve

ayuname

Try the RDiS 200. I'm pretty sure it would feel similar to your RDS002T. Although, I'm pretty sure the URD Ti 80 is similar in specs to the RDS002T.

I think TW was selling some RDS002Tour demos.

The RDiS 200 isn't really going to be reminiscent of the RDS002. I play with the 200 and have played with new Ti-80. I'd say go for the Ti-80.

  • Jul 18, 2010

Thanks All for your input. I suspected that the Ti80 was closer. I guess I'll have to order one and have it shipped over to find out for good. Even **** is out of 002 Tour. I did handle a RDis 200 (lighter version) whilst in the UK, and it doesn't feel right, at least not by 002 Tour standards. This might explain why Yonex re-introduced the URD Ti 80? For all the 002 Tour users for whom the RDiS 200 is not the natural upgrade path. That's just me speculating. Again, I am very grateful for your take on it. Take care, Herve

TennezSport said: I am sponsered by Yonex so I am in the same situation that you are and I recently tested the RDiS200 HW and have to say that I agree with the chart. The URD80T is much closer to the RDS002T. The RDiS200 just did not have that solid feel and off center shots lack any power, even strung at lower tension. I found that the RDiS100 actually felt better, so for now I am sticking with the RDS200T until they come up with a real replacement. If I have to I can fall back on the RDiS100MP; good luck. Cheers, TennezSport Click to expand...
Herve said: Hi Tennez, What tension would you suggest for the URD Ti 80 to "emulate the feel" of the RDS 002 Tour? Do you think the 80 needs to be strung at a slightly lower tension? Click to expand...

Hi - I played with the RDS002 Tour SL for about 3 years, tried out the RDiS100 90 and 98 for a month, hit for a few hours with the URD-Ti80 (and incidentally played with the RDS100 90 and 98 before the 002T). I actually also have been hitting with the Dunlop Aerogel 4D 200 for a few months but I've been getting elbow pain and so have picked up my Yonexes again (I never had elbow pain with them). The Dunlop swings nicely and as other posts on this board have also remarked, has a solid "old school" feel. It actually felt good the first time I hit with it and my hitting partners have said that I hit a heavier ball with the Dunlop compared with the RDS002T. I didn't like the RDiS100 at all; it felt strangely muted and didn't get the feedback that I got from my other Yonexes and the Dunlop. I'm still not sure what to make of the URD-Ti80. It felt slower through the air than the RDS002T, is very controlled, holds the ball well and feels very solid, but provides less feedback than the RDS002T. I really want to like it (probably the Paradorn connection) and will give it some more time. Interestingly, the Ti-80 that I picked up from TW has "US" after the model name on the frame, whereas it doesn't appear on the frame on the Yonex Japan website. As for stringing, I generally have poly mains @55, gut crosses @58.

Sure. Brief update on the rd ti80. It feels heftier than the 002T, but is still manoeuverable. I can hit good heavy serves with it, and get decent variety on groundstrokes. I don't hit with a ton of topspin and don't have huge racquethead speed, but I feel that I can still get depth when I want it. So, I'm starting to feel that it is a good racquet for my playing style. Will be playing again tues or wed and will update later in the week.

Btw it has "JAPAN" on the buttcap as per the 002T (and the other Yonexes I've played with)

basil J

TI 80 is a fantastic frame once you get dialed in with the right strings & tension. It is hefty& but solid in all areas. Not the spinniest racquet I ever hit with, but produces a nice heavy ball in the hands of the right player. I thought the level of control was much better with the TI 80 than with the more powerful 002 Tour.

  • Jul 27, 2010

Basil, Subprime, would you recommend a full VS Gut setup on the ti80 or can I keep my hurricane / excel setup which works well on my 002 Tour? I currently string at 62/60 on the 002 Tour, would a full gut at 60/58 work bext on the ti80? thanks herve

vndesu

im just wondering but have you tried the rqis tour 1?

Full gut on the TI 80 is great but I found much greater control with a gut/poly or gut/ synthetic hybrid. I like full gut more for the comfort, but for control and spin I got better results on both the TI 80 and the 002T with gut/synth hybrids. 60/58# or 58/56# depending on string type was my preferred tension.

I've not used full gut before (maybe once in a fischer many many years ago). I have strung my 002T's with gut on the mains and big ace or alu rough on the crosses. I find this setup a little too soft compared to having mono/poly on the mains.

ervinxhufka

I tried many set-ups on my Rd Ti-80 and the best was WC Scorpion/Forten Sweet 16 at 50/55 lbs. It feels great. I use power pads and babolat dampener. Spin, comfort and power. SPPP/Forten work the same too, just hate the orange colour in my Red and Blue URD 80 versions.

Yonex RDS002 Tour (UL) . String - NXT 17g @ 55lbs. Weight - 12.1oz with Vantage leather grip, Wilson Pro Overgrip, and Yonex Dampener . Design & Comfort 8/10. Even though I am not a fan of Orange, the comfort and quality make up the difference in scoring.. The RDS002 is basically an orange RDS001 MP when it comes to appearance.

  2. Yonex Rds 002

The Yonex RDS 002, with a 98 sq. in. head size, weighs 10.6 oz. unstrung, is a very spin-friendly and maneuverable tennis racquet. The RDS 002 is very light in my opinion and easy to swing. With the lighter weight of the racquet, I was able to easily generate faster racquet head speed from the baseline, letting me rip though my shots.
