Generally good. Sadly there were repeat negative interactions with staff who seemed pre programmed to just say no to even basic requests who would then revert to rude and aggressive when questioned.

I went on the ship due to personal history connection as I saw it being launched. (My father worked in the shipyard). I was disappointed as there was no entertainment at all. The food at all buffet was always cold, when this was stated at the time nothing was done about it. Also advertised as having pool (this was indoor only at the gym and more like a plunge pool for after a workout. I certainly won't be back or recommend to anyone.
Excellent stay

Britain’s famed Queen Elizabeth 2 ship now a hotel in Dubai

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Britain’s famed Queen Elizabeth 2 cruise ship will finally open as a floating luxury hotel moored off Dubai, nearly a decade after completing its last ocean voyage.
It’s been another long trip for the ship known as the QE2 to even open to the public, as Dubai’s financial meltdown and years of slow growth nearly sank the project and left the ship languishing at port. After initially planning to gut the vessel, Dubai’s government ultimately decided to restore the ship at a cost of over $100 million, down to replicating its 1960s carpeting, with work still underway.
“It’s like walking into a time capsule — this is the ship in 1969. It’s a hotel and a museum,” said Hamza Mustafa, the CEO of Dubai’s Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corp.'s investment arm. “We’ve put in 2.7 million man hours working on her ... making sure that she can really shine.”
“She’s going to live on for many more years now in her final home in Dubai,” he added.
The QE2, built by Cunard and put to sea in 1969, is the second ship the company named after the wife of King George VI, not the current British monarch — hence the number rather than the Roman numeral.
The luxury ship traveled some 6 million miles in decades of service even as airlines came to dominate trans-Atlantic travel. It carried 2.5 million passengers and crossed the Atlantic more than 800 times. Britain requisitioned the ship as a troop carrier for the Falklands War against Argentina in 1982.
In 2007, Cunard sold the QE2 to an arm of the state-run conglomerate Dubai World for 50 million pounds ($100 million). She arrived to Dubai’s Port Rashid the following year as part of a glitzy armada led by a mega-yacht owned by Dubai’s ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, at the height of the former British protectorate’s real-estate bubble.
An economic crash left the QE2’s owners in debt for billions of dollars. Rumors circulated for years after that the ship could be sold. All the while, she sat mothballed at Port Rashid near Dubai’s historic downtown creek, a 149,000-ton reminder of the crash.
Three years ago, the Dubai government’s Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corp. took over the project. It marks the first foray into hotels for the corporation, said Mustafa, who previously served as a managing director at the government-owned developer Nakheel and at the investment arm of Dubai World. He said the corporation planned to open other hotels in the future.
The ship has been hooked up to Dubai’s power grid, but still floats in the Persian Gulf. An Associated Press team that visited the ship Tuesday could feel her list slightly while walking through portions of her completed passageways.
“She lists. She’s supposed to that, she’s a ship,” Mustafa said.
Today, around seven of the QE2’s 13 decks are under operation, with 224 cabins available, Mustafa said. Prices will range from $150 a night in the simplest berthing to $15,000 a night for the Queen Elizabeth and Queen Mary suites, he said.
A green-hued British pub and other restaurants will serve alcohol, a common practice across Dubai’s hotels. However, its nickel, quarter and dollar slot machines will remain turned off as gambling is illegal.
The ship also will feature shops run by Dubai Duty Free, the government-run conglomerate that had $1.93 billion of sales in 2017, with 9.7 million cans of beer and 7.4 million bottles of liquor and wine sold.
Workers hurried across the ship Tuesday to finish up work ahead of the hotel’s soft opening Wednesday. By October, Mustafa said the hotel hopes to have a grand opening with “600 to 800 rooms” ready.
“If you want to come and have a sense of how it was during the ocean liner era but at the same time being a doorstep away from Dubai, this is the place you want to be,” he said. “We’re not a theme. We’re not a concept. This is what this ship was.”

A Journey Through Time
On 20 September 1967 at John Brown’s shipyard on Clydebank in Scotland, Queen Elizabeth the second named the QE2 in the company of Prince Phillip and 30,000 spectators.
“I name this ship Queen Elizabeth the Second. May God bless her and all who sail in her,” she proclaimed.
Then, with the ceremonial shattering of a bottle of Australian wine against the huge bow, the ship began her first journey into the water.
On May 2 1969, thousands of well-wishers gathered in Southampton to watch the QE2 set sail on her maiden voyage to New York.
Four days, 16 hours and 35 minutes later, the QE2 arrived at Ambrose Light and thousands turned out to welcome the new Queen in New York on 7 May.
Mayor John Lindsay boarded the ship from a coastguard cutter outside the Verrazano Bridge along with other civic dignitaries and officially proclaimed it ‘QE2 Day’ in New York.
On 4 January 1975, the QE2 set sail from Southampton on her first World Cruise, a journey of 38,000 miles. She visited 23 Ports in 92 days and it was the first of 25 world cruises during her career.
In March 1975, the QE2 made its first transit of Panama Canal, making it the biggest ship ever to travel through the canal. There was less than a foot to spare as the ship made its way through the canal locks.
In May 1982, the QE2 was requisitioned for the Falklands War as a troop transport, a decision which reportedly gave the then Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher a sleepless night.
The ship sailed for South Georgia with 3,000 troops aboard, arriving back in Southampton on 11 June 1982.
The QE2 engines were converted from steam to diesel in Germany, in a move that was expected to save Cunard £12 million a year in fuel and ensured the QE2 remained reliable for the remainder of her career.
The plant came with two new propulsion motors and new variable pitch propellers, while parts of the passenger accommodation was also modernised.
To allow for the work, the QE2 was out of service from November 1986 to April 1987. The Cunarder’s Sagafjord and Vistafjord were used to cover QE2’s transatlantic schedule as well as world cruises.
Sydney was a popular port of call during the QE2 world cruises, and in 1988, she stayed there for three days. During this time, the Australian TV channel ‘X10’ hosted their daily program ‘Good Morning Australia’ aboard the ship while docked in the ever-popular, Sydney Harbor.
Thanks to the renowned photographer, Arthur Gibson this amazing picture was captured and subsequently regarded as “The Photo of the Century”.
In July 1990, The Queen became the first reigning monarch to go on a voyage on a commercial liner with passengers.
The Los Angeles Times reported: “The Queen will attend a luncheon on board the QE2. An aerial display and fly-over by the Royal Air Force has been scheduled, and the same evening, passengers on the QE2 will attend a star-studded variety show and a laser-light and fireworks display.”
Until this date, the QE2 was owned and operated by the Cunard Line, a British/American cruise line based at Carnival House at Southampton, but in 1996 the Cunard Line ownerships was transferred to Norwegian construction company Kvaerner.
During this year she was also treated to a further $18 million refit. Works were undertaken in Southampton’s King George V dry dock – the final time QE2 would use the facility before its closure.
The refit concentrated on completing work outstanding from the 1994 refurbishment, as well as general touch ups.
To raise funds for the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund, Nelson Mandela and Graca Machel travelled aboard the QE2 between Durban and Cape Town in March of 1998. Whilst staying in the Midships Suite on Two Deck, President Mandela met with passengers and crew alike. He unveiled a Plaque, took part in a Q&A, attended a fund-raising dinner and was interviewed by Sir David Frost in the Captain’s Cabin. In the Visitors Book, Mandela wrote: “Travelling on QE2 was an unforgettable honor and a pleasure.”
On 29 August 2002, at approximately 21.50 hours ship’s time, the QE2 completed five million miles – a world record and a world first.
Other ‘in numbers’ facts about the QE2 include: Withstanding a 30-metre high wave breaking across her bow during a hurricane, having the largest library on the seas, with over 6,000 titles on board and her Passengers consuming almost 20 tons of lobster and 1 ton of caviar each year.
After nearly four decades as the world’s most celebrated ocean-going liner, it was announced that the QE2 was to become a floating hotel off the coast of Dubai.
She was bought by Istithmar, the Dubai Government’s investment arm, in a £50.5 million deal that demonstrated the Gulf emirate’s continued commitment to investment in its tourist industry.
The QE2 began her farewell voyage around the UK. So great was the demand from customers wanting to experience the iconic ship, that her last sailing, from Southampton to Dubai on 11 November sold out in just 36 minutes.
Managing director of cruise agency Sovereign Cruise Club, Stefan Shillito said: “It’s like the Concorde effect. That was a travel icon and the QE2 is the same ilk and people want to experience it.”
More than 60 naval vessels and private boats met the 70,000 ton ship in the Persian Gulf as she arrived in her new home.
Following an extensive refurbishment, the iconic QE2 once again opened her doors to welcome guests on board as a luxury destination.
Now a one-of-a-kind floating hotel, her guests have the opportunity to share in her 50 years of history and heritage with guided tours to the Captain’s Bridge, Boat Deck and the Traveler’s Cove Museum, whilst simultaneously enjoying the grandeur of years gone by.

Frequently Asked Questions
Full itineraries for world cruises typically last anywhere from around 100 to 180 days, though Royal Caribbean International 's Serenade of the Seas is currently sailing the longest world cruise at 274 days. If you're not able to set sail for three to five months (or longer), some cruise lines also offer select, shorter segments of their full world cruise itineraries or grand voyages, which are typically two to three months in length.
World cruise fares can vary significantly between cruise lines. Some lines advertise cruise-only fares, which do not include meals at specialty restaurants, alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, excursions, some entertainment, or other expenses. On top of that, many cruise lines' base prices exclude port fees and taxes. Given the length of a world cruise, even small expenses can add up after several months on the ship and in ports around the globe. Typically, travelers can expect to spend a base fare of about $15,000 for an inside cabin and as much as $90,000 (or more) for luxury accommodations and an all-inclusive fare.
If you're considering sailing beyond 2025, Regent Seven Seas Cruises recently announced its 140-night 2027 world cruise, World of Splendor, sailing from Miami to New York. The voyage embarks on Jan. 11, 2027, aboard Seven Seas Splendor , and prices start at $91,499 per person. If you want to reserve the over-the-top Regent Suite, you'll need to budget an unheard-of $1.7 million for two guests ($839,999 per person, to be exact).
Regent Seven Seas' all-inclusive fares include almost everything you could need, including door-to-door luggage service, first and business class airfare, pre-cruise gala events, exclusive shoreside experiences, unlimited dry cleaning and laundry, prepaid gratuities, meals, open bars and lounges, unlimited Wi-Fi access, and more. Silversea also offers door-to-door pricing that includes private executive transfers, international business class flights, pre- and post-cruise hotels and transfers, baggage valet, all meals and beverages, butler service, bespoke special events, and other amenities.
Depending on the cruise line, you may receive many additional perks when booking a full world cruise, including shore excursions. All-inclusive luxury lines like Silversea and Regent Seven Seas offer a list of complimentary shore excursions in every port. In addition, Silversea hosts a bon voyage reception, a private dinner and an overnight hotel stay for world cruise guests. It also features exclusive world cruise cultural events in ports around the globe. If you're sailing with Regent Seven Seas, you'll also have pre-cruise gala events and exclusive shoreside experiences throughout the cruise.
Special inclusions, upgrades and other amenities are available with other lines that are not all-inclusive. For example, guests on boutique cruise line Azamara's 2025 world cruise will receive $25,000 in benefits, including $3,000 for shore excursions, 13 exclusive events and much more. Oceania's " simply MORE" offer includes $8,200 in shore excursion credit, as well as many other amenities.
If you're sailing with a larger cruise line, it's also possible to find deals that may include shore excursions or onboard credit you can use for booking tours. Holland America Line offers guests an early booking bonus that includes a list of additional perks, including one complimentary shore excursion, $2,000 per person in onboard credit ($4,000 for solo travelers) and more. MSC Cruises includes 15 free shore excursions and other perks when you book its world cruise.
You may want to consult with a travel agent specializing in cruises to see what additional perks they can offer if you book your world cruise through their agency.
Royal Caribbean International's 274-night Ultimate World Cruise, which set sail in December 2023, will visit all seven continents before guests disembark in September 2024.
Holland America Line's 132-day Grand World Voyage cruise aboard Volendam in 2026 will also visit seven continents, circumnavigating the globe. The epic journey will include a four-day Antarctic experience.
