where campus comes to Choose from 20 different unique communities on campus

Congratulations! You’ve made a big decision. We believe that living on campus is an essential part of the Guelph experience.

Now, let us help you navigate your residence choices. We have 20 different unique communities to meet your personal and academic needs. 2

Disclaimer: All room layouts shown in this booklet are representative examples. Layout and furnishings may vary.

Which residence is best? Just like you, each of our residences is unique. The best residence for you will be based on who you are and what you want to get out of your residence experience. The first step before selecting your residence preferences is to ask yourself a few important questions... Do I want to live with other students in the same academic program? Am I looking for leadership opportunities? Do I want a full meal plan or a full kitchen with an optional meal plan? Do I study better in a quiet living environment? Am I motivated by having lots of activity around me? Do I want to live in a single gender or co-ed community? Do I want to live with suitemates who care about the environment, speak French or who celebrate diversity? Would I prefer independent living in a townhouse? Do I have a preferred roommate(s)?

roommates & suitemates We think it’s important for you to be comfortable living in a multi-occupancy room, suite or townhouse. On your Residence Application we will ask you some questions about yourself that will help us to get to know you a little better so that we can try to find a match. It’s important for you to be honest when you answer these questions to avoid potential future conflict.

Have a roommate(s) in mind? No problem. If you both meet the Application & Deposit deadline you will be invited to add each other to your Residence Application in mid-June. You can add 1 or 2 roommates in traditional residence or up to 5 suitemates for our East Residence or East Village townhouses.

Who you live with is just as important as where you live.

helpful hints If you and your best friend(s) want to live together in residence at Guelph, we can help you make that happen. Or if you met another future Gryphon on a tour, at an open house or online and you think you would be great roommates, you can request each other as well. The first step is for everyone to apply and pay your deposit by the deadline. The second step is to add each other to your Residence Application. Based on our experience mediating roommate conflicts, we suggest that you and your potential future roommate(s) or suitemate(s) talk ahead of time about your expectations. Here are some questions you can talk about: • are you a neat person or more “freestyle”? • are you an early riser or a night owl? • how do you feel about visitors staying over in our room? • how will we handle conflict if we disagree? • does it bother you if we share and borrow personal belongings?

Why live in residence?

There are countless reasons why you may choose to live in residence during your time at the University of Guelph!

1. Meet and Make Lifelong Friends

Living away from home can be difficult, especially when in a new environment. Residence provides an opportunity to meet other people who are sharing that same experience. The people you meet during orientation may become your best friends for the rest of your life!

2. Independence (With Support)

While you have your privacy when living in residence, our Residence Life Staff are only a message or a couple of doors away! We have staff to support you with academics, getting involved, making connections, and learning how to navigate campus.

3. Convenience

You can get to the heart of campus within 5-8 minutes from  all  of our residences. Enjoy the meal plan and spend your time studying and meeting others, what really matters!

4. Campus Community Connections

Student Housing Services works closely with campus partners to offer you the services you need. We can help you get in touch with health & wellness services, extracurriculars, employment opportunities, and more.

5. Academic Success

Residence Life has a team of students living in residence to support you through academics. Our Cluster Leaders and Academic Programmers plan events around big tests, midterms, and assignments to help you ask questions and get resources. Academic Drop-In Sessions are offered weekly covering a wide variety of topics, available exclusively to those living in residence.

6. 24-Hour Assistance

Your safety is our priority. We have residence desks open 24-hours a day and Residence Assistants on-call to respond to whatever needs you may have in residence. We work closely with the Campus Safety Office to ensure that you feel safe and accepted in our community.
