That’s what awaits you on Koh Poda

The islet of Koh Poda is certainly one of the most beautiful islands in Krabi and a visit to this natural jewel is truly recommended. Already on arrival with the longtail boat to Koh Poda one thing becomes clear: this island is paradise. Fine white sand beach and a sea so clear that you just feel like jumping in. The perfect place to unwind and enjoy the brilliant beach scenery. The water here is also clean, crystal clear, and an interesting underwater world invites you to snorkel. In addition, the imposing limestone cliffs of Koh Poda provide a dramatic backdrop.

As part of the Had Noppharatthara – Mu Koh Phi Phi National Park , the island is uninhabited and a true paradise for nature lovers. This park helps to preserve the natural beauty and marine life of the region. Therefore, visitors to Koh Poda must pay a national park fee. The park entrance fee is currently 400 baht per person and must be paid directly to the park ranger.

Tip : The best time to visit Koh Poda is during the dry season from November to April when the sea is calm and the weather is pleasant.

Since the island is quite small, you can go on a beach walk to explore a part of the island and search for a nice spot to unwind. The most beautiful stretch of beach is right next to the eye-catching limestone cliff , which will probably remind you of the famous Railey Beach. The further you walk up the beach, the sooner you will find an undisturbed spot for swimming.

If you are hungry, you can buy some food at the beach kiosk , or grab some snacks at the beach vendors. Although you will find plenty of shade on the island, you should not forget the sunscreen during a Poda Island trip. With a little luck, you should also be able to discover monkeys on Koh Poda. So watch out and take good care of your food and belongings.

Longtail boat crossings are offered at most hotels, travel agencies and even directly on the beach. Costs vary depending on season, provider and resort. If you want to charter a boat for yourself, you can negotiate a price on the spot. In general, the self-organized trip from Ao Nang to Koh Poda and back costs 300 baht per person. As soon as the boat is full with at least 6 people, the trip will start. Usually 4 pm is the last return trip.

From Krabi mainland to Koh Poda is about 8 kilometers. The longtail boat ride to Koh Poda takes about 20 minutes and is a scenic highlight. It is also worth getting up early and renting a private longtail boat to have the island to yourself for an hour.

Koh poda island: a hidden gem.

Koh Poda (Poda Island) – Krabi

The Poda Island, also known as Koh Poda is a beautiful island in South Thailand. It is found just off the coast of Krabi. It’s the largest of four islets in the Poday Group of Islands. What makes it easy to explore is that its near major holiday spots like Ao Nang, Railay Beach and Klong Muang. So you only need a day or half a day tour for you to cover this holiday destination. This islet is heavenly… from the smooth sandy beaches to the clear turquoise sea water that just invites you to jump in, the reefs which are perfect for snorkeling a magnificent backdrop with rock formations, this is a place worth visiting… It’s dreamy I tell you. If you are looking for a place to unwind, then this is the perfect spot.

How to get to Koh Poda

Ko Poda island can only be accessed by boat. The long tail boar tour is an experience to die for. So if you are planning a boat tour when in Krabi, then this is your first choice island. This island is owned by Had Noppharatthara – Mu Koh Phi Phi National Park . So you will have to pay a National Park fee to park – which is about 400 baht per person. And the fee needs to be paid to the park rangers.

How to get from Ao Nang to Ko Poda Island

Good old national park fees will bleed you dry in Thailand. It’s like a tax you can’t avoid and you’ve no idea what it actually contributes to. At each end of Ao Nang beach, you will find the long tail boat ticket offices where you can choose your Krabi boat tour.

What to expect and explore

Ok. You have to hand it to Ko Poda. It’s a beautiful island. The surroundings alone are just enough. But once you get to that amazing shore, trust me, you will be tempted for more…

The Poda island is very popular despite being small and with no fancy bars, restaurants and beach resorts. There are plenty of long-tail boars and speedboats at the shores ready for customers.

One thing I have never understood is why tourists normally crowd themselves in a small patch of water while swimming when there are the other sides of the island that are pretty much empty. Catching up, maybe? So when you find people crowded in one place, this is me letting you know that there is more to explore and you can find your own perfect spot.

Activities to enjoy

Koh Poda is surrounded by fine white sand and super clear water that’s ideal for swimming as well as snorkeling. Don’t get me started on the coral reef that has a numerous number of colorful fish. If you are planning on snorkeling while visiting Poda island, there are some tour companies that will sort you out equipment-wise. However, if you are not using a tour company you might have to carry your own snorkeling equipment. You can get them at a fair price from shops around Ao Nang beach before getting on the boat. Snorkeling Phuket is the perfect way to explore the crystal clear turquoise water and the colorful fish that the region has in huge supply.

Seeing as the waters are calm and clear, they make the island a great place for kayaking. This is also included in most tour packages. Plus, you could also rent the boats and kayaking gear from vendors on the island. So how about booking a kayaking excursion and paddle the amazingly beautiful corners of Ko Poda as you take pictures of the beach scenery.

The calm, clear waters of Poda island also make it a great place to enjoy a spot of kayaking, which are often included in tours but can also be rented from vendors on the island itself.

Of course, if you are in Krabi for a sustained period of time, it is always worth considering scanning more than just Ko Poda. This is best achieved as part of a boat tour with one of the credible operators in the area. Of course, boats can get crowded in the region, especially in the summer months. This is why choosing a boat tour that provides smaller intimate groups is the way to go, and nobody does this better than Simba Sea Trips. Book a Krabi Island Tour with Simba today and you’re guaranteed a day to remember.

The perfect view

Ko poda is about a kilometer in diameter. So before settling on a spot just because you see a number of people there, you could easily walk through the entire and pick a spot that is perfect for you. If you are looking for a breathtaking view, then the northern shore is the place to go. Then there is an amazing view of limestone karst from the beach protruding out of the sea. This image is similar to that one used to market Poda island to tourists.

At the center of the island is the perfect mix of pine trees and palm trees so you need not worry about the sun much as there is plenty of shed. That said, sunscreen is still important.

Food, drinks and accommodation

The Poda island has a small bar that sells drinks and snacks. Nothing too fancy. If you are using a tour company, lunch comes included in the package. IF you are on your own on the other hand, you must make your own lunch arrangements. OR… work with what’s available.

There is a beach kiosk where visitors can buy food. Alternatively, one can grab a snack from the beach vendors. Just a heads up… there are some monkeys there so watch out for your stuff… especially food.

Koh Poda has one resort that provides bungalow accommodation. However, they are a bit on the higher side in terms of pricing. That said, the island is close to the mainland so most visitors feel no need to stay overnight. It’s the perfect day trip tour. So if you are a tourist, get accommodation on the coast of Krabi. Here are some places to stay:

  • Bhu Nga Thani Resort & Spa (RailayKrabilife Resort (Klong Muang):
  • The Krabilife Resort
  • Holiday Inn (Ao Nang): Holiday Inn Krabi Resort Ao Nang Beach

This island is a place that can be visited all year round. It has become a popular destination for tourists who visit Krabi, especially on weekends and peak season. So it’s important to start your day early. This island is worth the choppy conditions you have to endure to get there, as well as the national park fees.

Tourist’s guide to Poda Island in Thailand – Beach Vacations Far from Cities

Poda (Thailand) is the nearest island located off the coast of Ao Nang, near the beaches of Raili and Phra Nang. Poda leads the island group, which also includes the island of Chicken, Tab and More. The attraction is located in Krabi province , 8 km from the mainland of Thailand, so the road to the island takes no more than 20 minutes. On the shore, travelers are waiting for soft, fine sand, a large accumulation of vegetation, and there are also many monkeys who feel like the full owners of the island and behave accordingly – brazenly steal tourists’ things and food.

Poda Island in Thailand

general information

The island of Poda, with an area of 1 km by 600 m, is covered with palm trees and is undoubtedly one of the most visited natural sites in Thailand. The main attraction of the island is picturesque cliffs and comfortable beaches. Many travelers say that such a clear sea is difficult to find all over the world. The main purpose of a trip to Poda in Thailand is to swim, sunbathe, and swim in a mask.

The picturesque cliffs of the island of Poda

Interesting fact! Two tens of meters from the coast there is a coral reef. If you plan to go snorkeling, take a banana with you – the aroma of the fruit will attract marine life. Tour operators in Thailand are required to pay a fee for the tour. This amount is used to clean the island of garbage that remains after vacationers. The island is famous for original and rather dangerous entertainment for climbers – boats take travelers to the rock, people climb onto the rock and jump into the sea.

Previously, the only hotel in the center of the island was offered to tourists to stay in traditional bungalows, but today there is no such opportunity, so you can’t spend the night on Poda.

How to get to the island in Thailand

Only the waterway leads to the Poda island in Krabi, you can get here in several ways, each of which is convenient and costly.

Thailand Public Boat - Longtail Boat

Transport in Thailand is called longtail boat, it is an ordinary motor boat. Departs from Ao Nang Beach from 8-00 to 16-00. In the morning, boats leave for the island, and after lunch they return to Ao Nang.

Ticket price – 300 baht. Be sure to check with the boatman – what time the boat will be sent back, because the passengers leave in the same transport that brought them to Poda. Boats are numbered, so remember its number.

The boat is usually hired for half a day, the cost of such a trip will cost 1,700 baht. This option is suitable for companies with at least three people. In this case, it is not necessary to coordinate the rest time with other passengers in the boat.

Flyer excursion "4 islands"

This tour is called one of the most interesting, you can buy it on the beach in Ao Nang in Thailand . During the trip, tourists visit the islands of Poda, Tub, Chicken, as well as Pranang Beach. The journey begins at 8-9 in the morning, by 16-00 tourists are brought back to Ao Nang. If you want to save money, choose a trip on local boats – speed boats, the tour will cost 1000 baht. You can buy a tour on the beach or at the hotel. The only drawback is the strictly regulated time and nothing depends on the tourists. On the inspection of the island of Poda, no more than one and a half hours are allotted.

Good to know! This is the cheapest way to visit the four islands in Thailand, relax on the beach and go snorkeling. The price includes transfer from the hotel and lunch.

What does the island look like

Poda Island Bar

The island is small and uninhabited, located south of Ao Nang, is part of Thailand National Park. There is no infrastructure, hotels, shops and all the more expensive. Of the amenities there is only:

  • a bar serving drinks and traditional Thai dishes;
  • washstands.

In fact, there is only one beach surrounding the island in a semicircle. The southern part is less suitable for swimming and relaxation, since there is a rocky shore and many stones in the sea. The south beach is considered wild, even at the peak of the tourist influx it is calm and quiet. In addition, it is quite difficult to walk around the island due to the mountain landscape and the lack of hiking trails.

Poda Island Beach

Numerous boats bring travelers to the island’s North Beach. It is here that a lone rock rises from the sea, which gives the landscape a certain mystery and color. Despite the abundance of boats and tourists, the water in the sea remains clean and clear. Entering the water is smooth and soft. The coast is wide enough, so there is no feeling that the beach is crowded, everyone will find a secluded place for themselves.

The main attraction of the island of Poda is a rock that rises directly from the water. Locals call it the “Green Pillar”. All tourists must be photographed against a cliff. The shots are bright, especially against the sunset.

Green Pillar at sunset

If you love nature, the island of Poda will be a pleasant discovery. It is best to visit the attraction before 12-00 or after 16-00, when there are fewer tourists. At this time, the atmosphere of the island is especially conducive to rest and relaxation.

Good to know! Before heading to the island in Thailand, stock up on food and drinks, as the local bar may be closed, and the prices are several times higher than on other beaches in the Thai province of Krabi.

Useful Tips

Beach holidays on the island of Poda

  • First of all, the island is suitable for those who like a calm, measured outdoor recreation. There are no attractions here, the only thing you can enjoy at Poda is a beach holiday.
  • The best time to visit is before 12-00 and after 16-00, the rest of the time crowds of tourists come here.
  • Many tourists come to the island and have a picnic right on the beach or on the grass.
  • The local bar does not work in low season, so it is better not to take risks and take food and drinks with you.
  • At first glance it may seem that the island of Poda is small, but there is enough space for everyone. If you walk along the coast, you can find a more secluded coast.

Pod Island Snorkeling

  • As for snorkeling, the opinions of tourists are mixed. Sophisticated athletes are not interested here, but beginners will surely like to watch the life of marine inhabitants. Some travelers recommend snorkeling off the coast of Chicken Island in Thailand. If you plan to dive, choose rocky areas or swim to a coral reef.
  • On the left side of the beach is a small lagoon – beautiful and deserted.
  • Be sure to bring sunscreen, a large towel, glasses and a mask, as well as a garbage bag, to the island, as Thai law requires tourists to clean up after themselves.
  • Stay on the island of Poda in Thailand is paid – 400 baht per person. Money from tourists collect boaters off the coast before arrival.
  • Going to swim, do not leave food ashore, monkeys behave arrogantly and steal food.

Poda Island (Thailand) will surely appeal to lovers of natural beauties and picturesque landscapes. Here the beauty of the tropics has been preserved, there is no city noise and the usual fuss.

half day poda island tour

  • talk2cj 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Fun experience with family Booked 2 days before the date for a family of 2 adults 2 kids. Initially it was for Princess cruise but that was sold out but YTS team (Sanjeev) found a alternative cruise company in same price. There are several cruise companies pretty much offering similar cruise experience. We boarded ChaoPraya Luxury 5 star dinner cruise from Asiatique riverfront. Picked up ticket from warehouse #7 where all the cruise companies have their desks to exchange your vouchers with tickets and your sticker with table number on it. Experience to collect tkt and instructions were clear. It was quite crowded as all the cruise companies conduct sunset cruise and dinner cruise one after another around same times. So it can feel bit overwhelming but follow the instructions and have patience. Cruise started 15 mins late as they off board previous one and onboard us. Got a nice reserved dinner table for 4 at the upper deck so that was a relief that you don't have to fight for the spot :). With some entertainment, buffet started right way. Food sections were clearly marked. For vegetarian (like us) there were only 5-6 items like Indian - daal fry, rice, naan and potato curry. fruits and salad options were there. But we had low expectations. The staff was nice enough to make a special order of vegetable spring roles upon request. Drinks including juices and coffee were all paid except water and coffee. Entertainment was decent. The singer and saxophone player made very good connection by moving around between guests and engaging them. Along with DJ they belted our popular US and western songs along with some Thai songs. Allowed guests to let loose and dance as well. Both lower and upper decks have their separate entertainment. The cruise does a round trip so you still can catch viewing all the landmarks which are nicely illuminated. Overall great memories, must do to have relaxing evening. One star reduced due to vegetarian food options. It's a dinner cruise so expect more choices like they could have easily made papaya salad or stir fry veggies by not putting shrimps or broth in it. We used Grab app to book ride it was much cheaper and convenient option. Had no problems both ways. Asiatique river front is also a vibrant and lovely place with well organized shops and restaurants. Thanks to YTS team for a prompt communication and felicitation. They earned our trust for other tour options also. Hope this review helps. Read more Written May 6, 2024

  • C5468JYmargotb 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Tremendously Terrific Triple Temple Tour Our tour guide was Johnny! He was very personable, informative, funny and friendly. My friend and I had a wonderful experience. The temples were gorgeous! Note that it was extremely hot, so a bucket hat and sunglasses are a must. (Peak temp was 106 F). The best part was the boat ride and the last temple. At sunset, it is a truly spectacular place to stroll around. We wish we had more time at each site, but we understand the restrictions that come with a half day tour. Please note that lunch is your responsibility - there are places to get a quick bite at the temples, but this does cut into the 40 min interval allotted for each site. It would be best to bring your own food or a snack to eat on the bus between the sites to use your time most efficiently! The tour did provide hand made roti with candy floss inside, which was very tasty. :) Overall a wonderful experience that I would recommend to any traveler coming to Bangkok. The guides English was very difficult to understand. He kept apologizing because he was just learning. We took over 1 hour to pick up everyone on the tour because the driver didn’t know where he was going! We circled the same place twice!! The floating market was a joke. A dam with some crap shops built around it. The Big Buddha was nice. The mountain Buddha nice but save your money and get a taxi straight to the Sanctuary of Truth. Forget the rest!!! Very bad. • Amii_OuO 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles A trip for the history buffs and those interested in WWII Highly recommend this tour. We had a very knowledgeable tour guide who ran us through the itinerary at the start of the trip and provided background before arrival at the first point of interest. He also took pictures of the group through the tour on his phone which are sent to you at the end, complimentary. Good for solo travellers. The war cemetery was peaceful and you could walk through the rows to see the different allied forces that rested there (aussies near the front entrance to the left). The museum, though small, was a good reminder of what war actually looked like. The railway, particularly near the river is a stunning but somber reminder of what people died to create and that this was all done by hand. Some of the track is being replaced due to its age but the line is thesame. Other notes, I did quite enjoy the extras that I paid for; the short boat ride under the bridge thay was bombed by the US Air Forcr and the upgrade to reserve seating in the train which guaranteed a seat, snack, water for the 1hr train ride (economy looked full that day and it was too hot to potenially stand for that long) which was THB 300 for each extra (THB 600 total for extras). The buffet lunch was a solid selection of Thai food and desserts with instant coffee or tea included. Ate till full and awesome view of the river :). Option to buy cold drinks too if desired. An amazing way to discover Bangkok. In krabi the stay was good.. Travel to nearby places were very good.. Hotel staff were very good.. In Phuket (Patong) the place was horrible.. The hotel you suggested was very bad..

I’ve been to Bangkok 3 times now and never really been that in love with the city but going on this tour gave a whole new appreciation for it, I saw places I’d never been, the temples at night are just amazing and so different to the crowded day scen

Just beautiful! I would highly recommend this tour!

About Krabi and the Four Islands

Island hopping in Krabi is super fun. One of the best ways to get involved in this adventure is to book yourself onto a tour of the four nearby islands just off the coast — arguably one of the popular tours in the area.

Named Koh Poda, Chicken Island, Koh Tub, and Koh Mor, these four little land masses are pieces of paradise, boasting pristine beaches, snorkelling spots galore and all the beautiful scenery you’d expect.

We were staying in Railay Beach , one of the most famous beaches in Thailand, but personally we found that the beaches of Four Islands were considerably prettier than Railay Beach.

The sand is whiter, the water is clearer and the surrounding nature is wilder, more untouched. They’re gorgeous islands, just waiting to be discovered!

Discover some of the most popular Krabi 4 Island tours below!

Four Islands Tour Overview

There are lots of companies that offer the chance to embark on the famed Krabi Four Islands tour . Most of these tours offer the same sorts of things, but sometimes in different orders and in slight variations.

All tours usually include pick-up and drop-off from your hotel, lunch, drinks on the boat and snorkelling equipment.

They might visit them in different orders, but on any four islands tour in Krabi, you’ll be guaranteed stops at the following spots in the Krabi Archipelago.

This island, known for its stunning beaches and super clear water, lies just off the coast of Krabi. It’s actually the largest of the four islands and is a super dreamy spot to drop anchor and explore for a while.

The white sand beaches lapped by turquoise seas are the main draw here, but you can’t discount the vibrant coral reef teeming with life just offshore — don’t forget your snorkelling gear!

You won’t get high-end bars or development here, it’s just a rustic place to kick back and enjoy the scenery.

Koh Tub & Koh Mor

The twin islands of Koh Tub (also Koh Tup – or Tup Island and Tub Island in English) and Koh Mor are two tiny slivers of land linked by a sandbar.

Called Talay Waek, this cool sandbar only reveals itself properly at low tide and can actually be walked across by visitors on the four islands tour.

Koh Tub itself is surrounded by typically sparkling waters that brim with tropical fish and colourful corals, attracting tourists from around the world; Koh Mor is equally as stunning, but feels even more remote than its neighbour.

Chicken Island

Chicken Island (Koh Kai in Thai) may seem like a weird name, but it’s actually because this island boasts a cool rock formation shaped like a chicken.

Lying just south of Koh Poda, it is also connected by a sandbar to Koh Mor and Koh Tub, making these three islands almost like one connected landmass.

When the tide is low, you can walk the Y-shaped sandbar between all three. It’s a unique stop-off on the tour for this reason, but also it’s a chance to snap pics of the rock formation (obviously).

Koh Kai also has a few facilities, like toilets and a beach bar or two, so you can grab a snack to eat if you’re feeling peckish.

The Other Side of Chicken Island (and Koh Poda)

On the other side of Chicken Island, opposite to the shore where the sandbar connects, is where you’ll find the eponymous rock formation itself jutting out of the limestone cliffs.

You can also see smaller islets that dot the sea here, like Koh Khom, as well as some colourful marine life offshore.

Likewise, the other side of Koh Poda is a wilder, less crowded portion of the island known for its not-so-hidden but still not very busy Secret Beach.

Some tours will take you to these lesser-visited sides of each island.

Phra Nang Cave Beach

Part of Railay peninsula, right on the southern tip opposite Koh Rang Nok, lies Phra Nang cave beach. This scenic spot is a popular place for the four island tour to end.

It’s not just picturesque: The cave is actually home to a shrine dedicated to the deity Phra Nang, goddess of fertility, which is decorated with stone phalluses of different shapes and sizes.

Since there is now a line of buoys to prevent boats from docking on Phra Nang Cave Beach, I don’t think any of the tours stop at this beach. They just cruise past it to show you the cool rock formations.

The 7 Island Tour  Krabi

As I mentioned earlier, every Krabi four island tour package varies from the next one, but they all go to the same places.

If you want to do something different, there’s actually a seven islands tour , which obviously includes stops at three extra islands, plus a BBQ dinner at sunset, which is pretty cool.

Beyond the classic Koh Poda, Koh Kai, Koh Tub and Koh Mor, the Seven Islands tour also includes stops at Koh Yawasam, Koh Tan Ming and Koe Raeng.

Here you’ll find slightly less people, as most travellers stick to the four islands tour, which will give you the opportunity to enjoy beautiful beaches and snorkelling spots all to yourself.

It’s a great option if you want an all-day activity. The four island boat tours usually only take up half a day, but if you’re ready to spend a whole day at sea, this is the tour for you!

Krabi: Phi Phi Sunrise & 4 Islands by Speedboat with Lunch

The Phi Phi Islands may be quite far away, but you can get there thanks to a tour by a zippy speedboat.

This tour may start early (and it’s a long day), but it begins with a trip to Phi Phi for an incredible sunrise, and then whisks you to the famous four islands — via Maya Bay (famous as the location of The Beach ).

It’s pricier than just doing a four islands tour, but that’s because you’re basically getting two trips in the same tour! A day trip to Phi Phi , and your classic 4 Islands tour in Krabi.

It’s a great option for those who have a tight Thailand itinerary , so that you can see more in less time. It also includes lunch in Phi Phi Don, plus pick-up and drop-off from your Krabi hotel.

Krabi: 4 Islands Day Trip by Speedboat Including Lunch Box

While many of the tours of Krabi’s four islands take place on longtail boats, this tour one speeds things up by allowing you to jump aboard a speedboat.

I included this tour as I wanted to include a speedboat option, but to be entirely honest, I would suggest a long-tail boat tour over a speedboat one.

The four islands aren’t far from Railay Beach, so even with a long-tail boat, it won’t take long to reach them. Plus, you’ll have a more traditional Thai experience.

But if you have your heart set on a speedboat, then this tour is the best choice. You’ll travel in style to the four islands, and it also includes lunch on the beach.

Railay: 4 Islands Sunset & Night Snorkel Boat Tour

This option really adds value to the four island tour.

Beyond the classic four islands, this tour also includes Railay Beach, specifically Ao Nang, with its amazing diving spots to glimpse an array of underwater tropical life.

You’ll get to see a sunset and even do a spot of night snorkelling, to see bioluminescent plankton. An unforgettable experience.

Krabi: Private Long Tail Boat to the 4 Islands

If you want to keep things private, this private long-tail boat is a great option. Since I was travelling to Railay Beach with my family we opted for a private 4 Islands tour, and we couldn’t have made a better choice.

Having a private boat will give you more flexibility, allowing you to change the order of your stops from the classic tour, so as to visit each stop while the crowds are somewhere else.

Plus you’ll be able to spread out on the boat, and not be squished next to strangers. Like all the tours, it includes pick-up and drop-off, lunch and drinks.

Krabi: Private 4 Islands & Sunset Dinner Luxury Speedboat

If a private tour isn’t enough, and you really want to splurge, this is the tour for you. You’ll do all the usual four islands stops, but on a luxury speedboat all to yourself.

Plus, add to it dinner with sunset over the ocean, and you have a magical travel bucket list experience ready. It’s perfect for special occasions or groups of friends who can split the cost.

Our experience doing a 4 islands tour in Krabi

I was in Thailand with my parents and little sister, so we decided to opt for a private tour. It was the best decision we could have made, as it gave us more privacy and flexibility.

We didn’t book it until we arrived in Railay Beach, from one of the many tourist stands located on the main road of Railay Beach.

This was a bit risky, since we were there over New Years, and many of the boats were already booked out. However, since we were there for a week we had quite a lot of flexibility on dates.

If you’re not spending long in Krabi, it might be better if you book your 4 islands tour online beforehand. That way you don’t risk missing out, plus you’ll be able to see reviews from other travellers.

Our four islands tour was super smooth and enjoyable. We were picked up from Railay East Pier, and taken directly to the beautiful four islands.

The crystal clear water of Koh Poda in Krabi, Thailand

We started with a long stop in Koh Poda, at a lovely white sandy beach with crystal clear water, before making our way to a snorkelling stop close to the sandbar of Koh Tub and Koh Mor.

In theory there is an entrance fee to the national park of the islands of Krabi, but our skipper was cheeky and told us that if we just snorkelled in the middle of the sea, without going to shore, we wouldn’t have to pay it.

We then sailed past Chicken Island, admiring the rock formations that give it its name. My favourite stop was actually the beach we visited on Koh Kai, as it had crystal clear water and we had it all to ourselves.

Our final stop was once again Koh Poda (or Poda Island), but on the back side in a little cove with only a couple other boats.

Overall it was a very enjoyable day, and one of the highlights of our Thailand itinerary . If you’re planning a Krabi itinerary, I highly suggest adding a four islands tour to it.

Where to stay for your Krabi Four Islands tour

In my opinion, the best place to stay in Krabi is Railay Beach, and more so if you plan to do the four islands tour. Railay Beach is a super chilled town, with one main street, lots of bars, restaurants and a laid-back vibe.

Plus, most of the tours that set off from Ao Nang or Ao Nam Mao will do a stop in Railay Beach to pick up other travellers, so you get to sleep more and start later if you stay in Railay Beach!

Here are the best places to stay in Railay Beach for every budget.

Budget: Railay Viewpoint Resort   – This budget option is tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the main road, and it’s a great for those who want spacious rooms and a pool with view for an affordable price.

Click here to book your stay at Railay Viewpoint Resort!

Mid-range: Railay Princess Resort & Spa   – This is where we stayed for a week and really enjoyed it. The property is clean, the rooms spacious, it offers a lovely breakfast buffet, has a great pool with view and is in an easy position close to East Railay Pier and the main street.

Luxury: Rayavadee   – If you want to treat yourself, this is the place to do so! Located in Phra Nang Beach (the only hotel there) this luxury property offers gorgeous private villas nestled in nature.

What to pack for your 4 Island tour in Krabi

For a full breakdown of what you should pack for Thailand, check out my Thailand packing list . Here I just included a few essentials that you will need for your four islands boat trip.

Waterproof jacket – If you visit in rainy season, you’ll be glad to have one of these!

Fast drying towel – There’s a lot of swimming and lounging on beaches involved in these boat tours, so make sure to have one of these! I love these because they dry quickly and they don’t take up much space.

Power bank – You don’t want your phone to die on you just as you’re about to snap a gorgeous photo of the crystal clear water of Koh Poda!

Dry bag – To keep your valuables safe and dry from any rogue water splashes during your boat trip.

Final thoughts on doing a 4 Islands tour Krabi

There you have it, the ultimate guide to doing a Krabi four islands tour! Have you been to Krabi before? How did you find it? Let me know in the comments below!

I’ve been to Thailand four times, and yet this was my first time visiting Krabi. I can confidently say it was one of my favourite places in Thailand, especially Railay Beach and its surroundings.

We spent a week in Railay Beach, and loved its chilled and laid-back atmosphere. Plus, the fact that from here you can go island hopping to gorgeous beaches is a great addition!

On previous trips to Thailand I visited other pristine beaches like Koh Lipe , the Surin Islands , Phi Phi Islands and Similan Islands , but I find that the four islands in Krabi beat them all.

They might not be as famous for scuba diving , but they’re still pretty beautiful, and the fact that they’re so close to shore (30 minutes by long-tail boat compared to the 2-hour speedboat required to get to the Similan Islands), makes them all the more appealing.

I hope you found this guide on the best four island tours in Krabi useful, and that it helps you choose the perfect tour for you! If you have any questions, just let me know in the comments below.
