Overall, the tour was very fun and we'll put together. The tour guides were all friendly, and seemed to work well as a team. Accomodations were not bad, but there were better options directly adjacent. Food options were pretty much all fast food, which makes sense for the tour concept. However, dinner options could have been a bit better. We really would have appreciated a little more hiking and exploring time, and a couple of the guides did the best to accommodate that. However, 20 minute stops are just not enough time to get "out and experience" the areas.

We experienced more of Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons with this tour, than we would have on our own. We enjoyed meeting new people, seeing all the sights, and not having to worry about driving and directions. Be prepared to do a lot of walking/hiking - but it is worth it!

Winter Tours Of Rocky Mountain National Park

Backcountry skiing .

Rocky Mountain National Park doesn’t have any designated ski areas, however backcountry skiing is popular here. The park’s acres of untracked terrain are full of fresh powder, excellent for skiing.

Backcountry skiing is not easy here, and it’s imperative to be aware of conditions and avalanche danger within the park. For this reason, a professional guide is a safe bet.

Sledding 

Above I said RMNP doesn’t have any designated skiing areas, however that hasn’t always been the case. RMNP’s Hidden Valley Ski Area was in operation during the 1950’s.

While the resort’s long closed, the area is now extremely popular for something a little more low key, sledding.

The current sledding hill was formerly a ski bunny slope, meaning it has a gentle grade, perfect for sledding.

Our guide was Aaron. He was very friendly and knowledgeable, always accommodating and caring. I learned a lot about the landscape and wildlife and history of the park. The best part was using all the senses to explore the environment. I would recommend this trip to anyone who enjoys the outdoors and wants a fun day in nature!

This tour was definitely a highlight of my short weekend trip to Denver..I am so glad I decided to do this tour. Communication with Aspire Tours ahead of time was quick and easy, and our guide Ty was top-notch! He gave lots of interesting information about Colorado history and the various ecosystems we encountered on our trip. He also made sure we were adequately hydrated and periodically checked on everyone to make sure they were feeling good and no altitude sickness. The hike was perfect in terms of difficulty level and pace. We had plenty of time to enjoy the beautiful scenery and take photos. This tour takes the guesswork out of visiting the Rockies, especially if you are on a time constraint. I would recommend this tour to anyone looking to enhance their Colorado experience.

His knowledge of the Denver area, the Rocky Mountains, and the hike itself were amazing. The hike was easily the most incredible hike I’ve ever had. I will always remember the most breathtaking views hiking with my daughter in the Rocky’s! It was such a beautiful day and Nick our tour guide with awesome! He was so fun, kind and informative. A must-do if you are remotely interested in hiking, and that goes for for locals and Colorado visitors alike. Ryan was a phenomenal, passionate tour guide. He's not only intelligent about the area, but had a fun sense of humor. His guidance ensured I got to experience an especially scenic trail, filled with fun facts and stories about the individual mountains, the wildlife/birds, and the plants/nature along the way. If I'd of ventured to Rocky Mtn National park and tried to find my way solo, I'd likely of missed out on the extra-amazing photo opps, and my brain definitely would have missed out on learning dozens of fun facts about the area I just hiked through. The pickup/dropoff from downtown Denver was convenient as well.

Our guide Clyde was so knowledgeable about tips for adjusting to the high altitude, flora and fauna of the area, other areas to visit, and places to eat. He showed us incredible spots around several lakes, and we even spotted elk! Clyde was prepared with Yeti traps for each of us as it had just snowed the day before, also with chains/sand for icy driving conditions. And I loved my lunch that catered to my dietary restrictions!

We went on the full day hiking trip to the Rocky Mountain national park and had a fantastic time! We felt well prepared based on the information we’d been given. Paul Kullman was an amazing guide! We saw beautiful views, had such a fun day, and we felt in good hands the whole day. We spotted elk and birds. Paul was incredibly knowledgeable and we learnt so much. It was our first time in the Rockies so we appreciated how convenient the trip was. We would definitely recommend this trip!

Our 5-Day Best of Rocky Mountain National Park Tour is an inn-based immersion in the ecology, human, and natural history of the Colorado Rockies . From our base in comfortable and historic lodging in Estes Park, Colorado, we’ll experience all of the diversity the Park has to offer: from pristine mountain lakes to high peaks and alpine glaciers, to the iconic Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep – our hikes are chosen to highlight the most remarkable features of this National Park.

We begin our tour from our lodging base in Estes Park, Colorado, gateway to Rocky. We’ll stay at a lovely lakeside lodge minutes from the national park boundary, with each day of adventure designed to create a unique experience and window into the Park’s variety and beauty.

This Rocky Mountain National Park hiking tour begins with a scenic drive to Gem Lake Trailhead, nestled within the ancient granite cliffs and boulders of Lumpy Ridge. We will hike in a labyrinth of rock formations, while taking in amazing views of the country we’ll be hiking through over the coming days. The route provides excellent opportunities for photography, acclimatization, and serves as a great first hike. After lunch at the lake, we’ll make our way back to Estes Park to check into our rooms and enjoy our first dinner at a hand-picked, local mountain eatery.

• Hiking Mileage: 10 miles
• Elevation Gain/Loss: 1520 feet
• Accommodations: Inn on Fall River

Today we’ll find the pleasures and power of mountain water: from rushing rivers and waterfalls, to high mountain lakes. Our hike will take us through the reaches of Wild Basin, a wildlife- and flower-strewn region of the Park. Moose have recently been seen in this river valley as well!

We’ll hike along the North Saint Vrain River, past Calypso Cascades and Ouzel Falls to Ouzel Lake and the mountain cirque that envelopes it. From there, time and interest permitting, we’ll continue along to the higher reaches of Bluebird Lake and take in another view of the Continental Divide beyond. From there it’s back down trail to our lodging, where evening dinner awaits.

• Elevation Gain/Loss: 1440 feet

Day 3 will find us headed into the land of glaciers, past and present. We’ll make an “alpine start”, with an early breakfast and early departure to Glacier Gorge, the trailhead from which we’ll begin our ascent.

Our route will take us past Alberta Falls, into the sub-alpine forest, and from to a emerald string of mountain lakes, from Mills to Jewel, and at last to Black Lake, which sits in a silent and imposing mountain cirque, testament to the power of glacial ice. We’ll enjoy a hearty lunch, scope out the granite crags above us, including Spearhead and Keyboard of the Winds, before making our way home to Estes for the evening. On our return we’ll get great views of Andrews Glacier, the pyramidal Storm Peak, and the stark vastness of Longs Peak, Pagoda, and Chiefs Head mountains.

Please Note: We’ll always have good alternatives if weather or other factors require an itinerary change. Also, it’s important to dress in layers and prepare for cold and windy conditions above tree line.

• Hiking Mileage: 9+ miles
• Elevation Gain/Loss: 2380 feet

Our time spent hiking at altitude has prepared us for an ambitious hike to the Chasm Cirque. Our trail begins with a steep start and gradually eases as we crest above tree line and are welcomed with a view of Long’s Peak. Arriving to Chasm Lake, one can not help being enthralled by the 1,800 foot vertical cliff known as “The Diamond.” A world-famous climb, we’ll likely see rock climbers high above us on this granite wall while we enjoy lunch. We will take our time returning the way we came, while enjoying the countless wildflowers that seemingly bring the mountain meadows to life.

• Elevation Gain/Loss: 600 feet

To finish off our week of adventure, we spend much of our final day above tree line, touring the highest continuous paved road in the United States. Starting at 11,400 Feet, we’ll begin our hiking tour on the famous Ute Trail. This trail provides superb views of summits, ancient volcanoes, glaciers, and often wildlife. From our vantage point we will have an amazing view of the park and the previous days’ adventures, which often fosters an appreciation for all we’ve seen and done.

After our starter hike, we will continue down the road for another brief hike at The Alpine Ridge visitor center. This viewpoint resides above the headwaters of the Colorado River and offers breath taking views of the Never Summer Range.

Meals: What To Expect

We provide all your meals from breakfast the first day through lunch the last day. Your guide will prepare breakfasts and lunches with a variety of hot and cold meals that are appropriate for the day’s activities. Feel free to tell us about your food preferences, as we’re more than happy to tailor the menu to your needs/desires. Some specialty diets may require an additional fee.

For dinners, we’ve hand-picked local restaurants you’re sure to enjoy! We made our decisions based on the quality of their food, their charm, and how much local color and character they have.

We regularly accommodate vegan, vegetarian, kosher and non-gluten diets and will make adjustments for food allergies. These and other special dietary requests may require an additional fee.

Where Do We Meet?

You will meet your guide and group in Estes Park, Colorado at 8:30 AM the first day of the trip (if staying in Denver, Estes Park Shuttle offers a 5:00-8:00 am shuttle). Your guide will be in contact approximately 2 weeks before your trip and will specify the exact location of the orientation meeting at that point.

We recommend guests arrive in Estes Park (or another nearby location that is 7500′ or higher) 1-2 days before your trip starts. This will help you acclimatize to the higher elevation, and make for a more enjoyable experience during your tour. This is especially important if you have never been to higher altitude, or are flying in from sea level.

Travel to Estes Park, Colorado

All Rocky Mountain National Park trips begin and end from Estes Park, Colorado. Estes Park does not have an airport. The most convenient airport is Denver International Airport (DIA), which is served by most major airlines and is an inexpensive airport to fly into. From DIA one can take a shuttle or rent a car to reach Estes Park. It is a 1.5-hour drive from DIA to Estes Park on good roads.

You will meet your guide and group in Estes Park at 8:30 am the first day of the trip. We will drop you off at your hotel on the final day normally before 5 PM (this time is not guaranteed, as a variety of circumstances can influence our exact return time).

Safety Precautions

Your safety is our top priority. Our hiking tours are led by professional hiking guides, all of whom are wilderness-certified first responders or EMT’s, each with years of guiding and wilderness experience. Guides adhere to standardized risk management protocols in case of any potential or actual incident, and all tours carry an emergency communication device and comprehensive first-aid kit. Additionally we have a “24/7” system through which guides or guests can reach Wildland support personnel at any time.

Essential Eligibility Criteria

Essential Eligibility Criteria (“EEC”)  have been specifically identified to help you understand the skills and abilities necessary to participate on each Wildland trip, and they apply uniformly to all potential trip participants, irrespective of the presence or absence of any disability.

Once you identify a trip in which you may be interested, please carefully review the  EEC  and itinerary details. If after reviewing the EEC that apply to your desired trip, you determine you need an accommodation in order to meet the EEC, please  contact us  prior to registering to discuss your requested accommodation.

The EEC exist for your own safety and the safety and enjoyment of all participants. If you are unable to meet the EEC for the trip, with or without an accommodation, you are not eligible for that trip. If you register and arrive for a trip for which you do not meet the EEC, you will be disqualified from participation on the trip and will be dismissed or evacuated from the trip without a refund.

Guide Working Parameters

Guides are required to take 8 hours off each 24-hour period to sleep, recuperate, take personal/down time…etc. In addition, as part of the 8 hours off they must sleep/rest or be in their tents/rooms uninterrupted for a minimum of 5 hours each night. We ask guests to respect these requirements and to not interrupt guides’ off time and sleep time unless there is a true emergency.

Age Restrictions

Age restrictions on this trip are as follows:

• 12 and older to join scheduled tours (mixed groups)
• 5 and older to join private tours, with final approval and specific logistical requirements (such as porter or stock assist) determined on a case by case basis

Weather in the Colorado Rockies

Being a high mountain environment, the Rocky Mountains are prone to sudden temperature and weather shifts. This is an exciting aspect of being in Colorado’s high country. On trips in June, snow is a slight possibility, and the rest of the summer rain is always a possibility on your trip. To be fully prepared, please follow the recommended clothing list closely (this list comes as part of your trip packet when you register). See below for average summer temperatures:

Beyond outstanding!

Wildland Trekking is an amazing company for hiking adventures. I recommend them to everyone I know looking for a great National Park hiking 🥾 experience. Beautiful Country

I spent a week with some of my girlfriends in Estes Park. We spent the week with Wildland Trekking hiking in the Rocky Mountain NP area, Inn base. We stayed at the Inn on Fall River. It was nice sleeping in a bed every night , showers, hot tub, dining at fabulous restaurants and hiking. Dakota and Chris were an absolute joy to spend a week with. They took care of us . Also they put up with eight ladies talking a lot , laughing and having fun while hiking, dining and drinking. We saw some beautiful country. Are lunches and some of our breakfasts were made by our guides. Always delicious. It was just a really delightful week. I would recommend this trip !

Denver Tour Guide

Getting There –

Getting to Denver from within the US is very easy and with so many different options, you’re sure to find something that works for you.

Air – Did you know that Denver International Airport is the 3 rd -busiest airport in the US if you can believe it! With a whopping 24 airlines operating in and out of it, no matter where you’re located you’ll find a good route. Not only that, but their airport makes it easy to get to the city center with the public train that has a stop there. There are always cabs and rideshares available, too.

Amtrak – The California Zephyr line actually makes a stop right in the center of Denver, at their beautiful Union Station. Running daily, they start in San Francisco but make stops in various other cities around the US.

Car – Driving to Denver is possible from anywhere within the continental US, and for those located on the Western side of the country is quite easy to do. Thanks to its somewhat-central location within the west, driving may be a preferable option for some travelers.

Getting Around –

Getting around Denver is also very easy. In fact, we’d be willing to bet that it has some of the best public transportation in the country.

Driving – If you’re going to drive to Denver, that’s not a problem. Driving here is very easy, and we noticed that there isn’t usually too much traffic. The streets are well-maintained, even in the older neighborhoods. They’re wide, and the drivers overall are respectful. However, parking downtown is very expensive, so if you’re going to be traveling around this area you may want to explore other options.

Buses – The city has over a thousand city buses with more than an impressive 10,000 local stops in 8 different counties. If you’re looking to head to the airport or suburbs to/from downtown, grabbing a bus is probably the easiest way. They make getting to just about any part of Denver a breeze, and we found the buses clean and well-maintained and they run 365 days a year!

Light Rail – The light rail, part of Denver’s Regional Transportation District (RTD), consists of 12 different lines that cross not only Denver, but Boulder and some other areas! While it does depend on the specific line, day, and time of day, you can expect each train to run every 15 to 30 minutes. Make sure to check the schedules and routes online – also to see the fees as they do vary.

Scooters – Electric scooters have exploded in popularity over the last few years, and are currently one of the most popular way that locals navigate Denver. They’re meant to be used in the bike lane, and can go pretty fast! You’ll see both Lyft and Lime scooters all over the city, usually available for around 30 cents a minute. If traveling short distances, it’s a nice alternative to walking and will get you where you need to go faster.

Lyft/Uber/Taxi – These are all available all over Denver, but they can add up quickly if you’re just relying on them or if you’re traveling longer distances. However, for the times when the light rail or bus isn’t available it’s a great option to have.

Where to Stay –

The great thing about Denver is that there really is something for everyone. Whether you’re looking for a busy city life that never stops, or quiet, calm suburbs, you can find that here.

Union Stations/Lower Downtown – If it’s your first time in Denver, or if you really want to see as much as possible, we highly recommend staying in lower downtown. Thanks to Union Station reopening in 2014, it makes traveling anywhere around the city a breeze. Oh, and if you love checking out incredible restaurants, boutiques, and bars, then this is the place to be. However, it is a bit more expensive than the rest of the city.

Five Points/RiNo – This neighborhood is just north of Union Station, making it still very conveniently located. This one is almost like the “Brooklyn” of Denver, with all kinds of trendy clubs, breweries, and interesting food options like markets are available. If you’re a foodie or super into nightlife, you may just prefer it over lower downtown. However, it is notably noisy on the weekends due to loud music coming from bars.

Cherry Creek – Do you like luxury? Then Cherry Creek is hard to beat. It’s known for luxe residential units, massive shopping complexes, and wide streets that are perfect for strolling around. Not to mention, it’s overall quiet and you won’t have to deal with struggling to find parking. However, it’s not close to much of anything else and if you aren’t driving you’ll definitely have to grab an Uber/Lyft everywhere.

Central Business District – If you’re heading here for business or a convention, you may find this the best area to stay in. Skyscrapers, shuttles, the Denver Convention Center, and all kinds of events are found here. However, if you’re into nightlife you’ll likely find this option a bit boring as once business hours are over it goes quiet.

Capitol Hill – Why does it feel like every neighborhood named Capitol Hill is like this one? Older, beautiful residential homes, contrasting more “edgy” areas like tattoo parlors, liquor stores, and bars are what this one boasts. It’s known to be a bit more “hipster” and is awesome if you’re looking for an entertaining area to stay on a budget. Not only that, is it’s still quite close to downtown and the CBD.

Restaurants and Eating Out –

If you’re a foodie, you’re sure to enjoy the Mile High City. Let’s break things down by meal so you have a better idea of what Denver has to offer your taste buds.

Breakfast – There are a ton of people who have moved to Denver from Mexico, and that’s evident in the local cuisine. El Taco de Mexico is simply the best if you’re recovering from a long plane ride or a long night. Their egg-and-chorizo burritos are serious lifesavers! Other great options are the huevos con machaca and La Machaca de Mi Amá. If you’re looking for a lighter option, try a red bean bun with a matcha latte at Tokyo Premium Bakery. We’re also big fans of “ Onefold” , which is sublimely “Denver” with their Bacon Fried Rice bowls, and all kinds of meat-heavy to veggie options.

Lunch – Listen, we’re going to recommend Mexican food in Denver, no matter what the meal is. So, aside from Kiké’s Red Tacos, Denver also has some great pizza (of all different styles!). For Neapolitan, try Marco’s Coal-Fired, or White Pie for Connecticut Style. If you’re trying to stick to a healthier diet, we love The Turtle Boat ! Delicious poke always seems super fresh here, and you can indulge without the extra calories or feeling sluggish afterward. We can’t recommend the frybread and curry at Tocabe if you’re really feeling hungry!

Dinner – Inspired by the NYC neighborhood, Greenwich is trendy, and your ultimate “hipster” dining spot. Pizza with Brussels sprouts, bacon marmalade, and lemon relish are just some notable details we really liked. However, their cocktails are unique, “crafty”, and pair perfectly with their dishes. For an interesting take on Mexican food, check out Cantina Loca. From their perfectly-sweet pulque to cactus tempura, you’re sure to find something here you haven’t tried before. Three Saints Revival is a pan-Mediterranean spot, “celebrating old and new world wines”. Despite being beverage-forward, it’s great for grabbing some pork belly with saffron-pickled apples or scallops.

Nightlife and Entertainment –

Denver has a pulsing, lively nightlife and you can find just about anything here.

Bars – If you’re going downtown, you have to check out their bars. 54thirty Rooftop and Le Mèridien Hotel are both some of the top options, with amazing views high up of the city. The open-air spots make them ultra-busy during the warmer months and are perfect to start off the night with. Howl at The Moon is a blast, and people here are looking to really party and have a good time.

Clubs – Denver has some of the best clubs in the country, especially if you’re into electronic music. Glow Lounge is beautiful and overall such a good vibe. With the glowing parts of the venue, it is great to dance a bit here and meet some locals as everyone seems so friendly and in a good mood. If you’re just looking to dance and don’t have a particular genre in mind, “Your Mom’s House” has everything from jazz and soul to techno and house, to Latin and Reggae.

Temple Nightclub is known for having some of the best DJs in the world (mostly mainstream/EDM). SoCo Nightlife District consists of 6 popular venues: The Church, Club Vinyl, City Hall, Milk Bar, Living Room, and Bar Standard. They all take production and talent seriously, and you’re sure to have a good time here. Oh, and there are plenty of underground warehouse events going around the city if you’re into techno!

Breweries – Denver is a hotbed of supreme breweries, and you’d be remiss to skip them! Wynkoop has been around for over 30 years, and was started by one of the state’s former governors and mayors. They offer all kinds of obscure flavors like green chiles and gummy bears.

Blue Moon is global now, but it started right here in 1995. It’s calm, and the crowd tends to lean slightly older. Cerebral Brewing is more “sterile” in both the looks and the approach to their brewing. However, the result is delicious, from all kinds of sours to a rich imperial coffee stout. TRVE looks kind of like a cave, and is a great place for hanging out for hours and trying delicious brews like oak-fermented saisons and cultured sours. Make sure to grab their signature fried chicken sandwich, too!

Weather –

Denver is a city that definitely gets seasons – seasons which can have a great effect on what you plan on doing. If you like the warmth, we recommend going from the beginning of June to the middle of September, where the daily average is around 80 degrees. The colder months is from mid-November to the beginning of March, where it can definitely snow and be outright frigid. However, September and October and March/April are nice jacket weather where it’s neither too cold nor too hot.

Attractions –

Union Station – If you’re going to be in the area, make sure to check the station out. In 2014 it underwent a massive restoration, turning it into a cultural and entertainment hub. The Mercantile Dining and Terminal Bar are favorites, along with some bookstores, a hotel, and of course the convenience of having the rail, Amtrak, and shuttle bus station right there.

Denver Art Museum – The building alone is worth going to see, and looks like a fortress! The large gallery space inside showcases art from Asian, Indigenous North American, Alaska Native, European, and American art before 1900.

History Colorado Center – This is a newer attraction, but is great if you want to learn more about Denver and the state. It covers its history through technology and hands-on exhibits that are fun for kids and adults, alike.

Confluence Park – Founded originally as a gold mining camp, this beautiful park is great to walk or ride around. If you’re looking to get some fresh air, it’s fun for taking a picnic or a cup of coffee and just enjoying the day. Not to mention, you can take the Platte River Trolley to the Downtown Aquarium!

Elitch Gardens Theme & Water Park – This is the only waterpark in all of the country located downtown. Surprisingly, they’ve managed to fit in over 50 rides, including rollercoasters and plenty of wet rides!

Coors Field – Even if you aren’t a huge baseball fan, checking out an MLB game here is a great way to spend an evening. Grab a hotdog, beer, and have fun with the local fans.

Cherry Creek Shopping – Boasting over 500 stores, boutiques, galleries, and more, you can easily spend all day here. If you’re looking to buy a souvenir or treat yourself, this is the place to do it.

Pikes Peak – The red rock formations around it make it one of the top spots in Colorado for escaping the city noise and crowds. If you’re looking to do the same, we highly recommend take a tour of Pikes Peak .

Tips –

• Denver isn’t called the “Mile-High City” for nothing. It really is very high in altitude, and if you aren’t used to it it can really ruin your time. Make sure to drink plenty of water before and during your trip. Also eat foods high in potassium. The extra hydration and potassium will help your body better acclimate to the higher altitude.
• Make sure to bring a jacket. While Denver is not located in the mountains, the weather can be quite finicky. Not to mention, when you’re going to Rocky Mountain National Park, you are going to be up in the mountains, which can have completely different weather than Denver.
• Be respectful of nature. Colorado is a state that really values its wilderness and wildlife, and it’s important to follow outdoor etiquette.
