Whether you take the tour purchased from your cruise excursions desk, or take the tour with on-and-off privileges purchased from Old Town Trolley directly, you will have time to shop, visit attractions, and find your way to some of our most famous landmarks.

Admissions

For over 35 years, Old Town Trolley has brought guests closer to Key West attractions like Harry S. Truman’s Little White House, Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum, the Southernmost Point and the beaches just to name a few. And great shopping can be found throughout the island including famous Duval Street. For a memorable dining experience, look no further than Hog’s Breath Saloon , Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville and the Hard Rock Cafe. So come and see all the great things Key West has to offer aboard Old Town Trolley Tours .

Tour Option 1: Purchase from your shore excursions desk

Our tours are designed to maximize your time here in Key West. You’ll receive an overview of the historic district, covering 100 points of interest including the Ernest Hemingway House and Museum, the Audubon House, world famous Duval Street , the Southernmost Point in the continental US, the neighborhoods of Old Town, one of the largest historical districts in the US, the Key West Bight, West Martello Fort, and tropical flowers and plants. The tour ends in Mallory Square.

When using an excursion through the ship, the ship guarantees that it will wait until the excursion returns.

* Additional fees may apply.

Tour option 2: purchase from old town trolley directly.

Purchase tickets online or through our ticket depots. We provide a 1.5 hour tour with on-and-off privileges at 13 stops*. How to get to old town trolley tours:.

picture of key west map showing cruise ship pier locations

Mallory Square

  • The Westin ‘Pier B’

The Navy Mole

To return to any of the piers, adults must have both ship’s card (which usually doubles as your room key) and a valid photo identification (passport, driver’s license, etc.)

Mallory Square is the closest to Key West’s downtown area. It is a short walk into town—just look for the ‘Welcome to Mallory Square’ archway, and walk though.

The Westin ‘Pier B’

Pier B, located at the Westin Resort, is where most of the Royal Caribbean ships are docked. It is close to downtown, but is 200-250 yards from the pier to the tour locations. This distance is not affected by whether you take the excursion from the ship or if you walk downtown to take the regular tours.

The Navy Mole requires transportation to get into town. You will be met on the pier by trolleys and given shuttle service into town. There is no cost to this service. It is provided by the city of Key West. You will be transported to Mallory Square (in front of the Sponge Market). Walking is not an option, due to Homeland Security regulations. The Navy is still active on this pier.

Foreign Languages

Old Town Trolley Tours offers a 60-minute, non-stop Key West tour in German, French, Spanish, Italian and Portuguese to cruise ship passengers. Please ask at your shore excursion desk or an Old Town Trolley sales representative when you disembark.

Questions on Trolley shore excursion in Key West

By ItzRav , November 16, 2017 in Celebrity Cruises

Cool Cruiser

Greetings. We're planning shore excursions for the Western Caribbean Cruise on Equinox, leaving from Miami on Feb. 10, and we have some questions on a particular excursion, the Key West Old Town Trolley, which makes 12 stops within 1 hour 30 minutes. We called both the main Celebrity number and the Shore Excursions number, but both places knew nothing more than what the web site says, which isn't much. Our questions are:

1. Is this a hop on/hop off type of thing, where you can get off and back on at multiple stops, and continue on the trolley to the next stops?

2. Is it just one trolley that goes around just once and waits a few minutes at each stop for everyone to get back on, or does just one trolley go round and round among the stops, or are there multiple trolleys?

3. If multiple trolleys, how often do they run? So if you do get off at a stop, how long does it typically take for another trolley to come along to take you to the next stop?

4. How far do you have to walk to get to the start of the trolley tour, or does it start at the pier, and does it bring you back to the pier at the end?

5. How late in the day do the trolley(s) keep running?

Thanks for any help or advice. Paul and Robyn

It is the traditional type HOHO. You're much better buying a discount ticket online. It's a very short walk from the pier to the street trolley stop. Here's their web site which should answer your questions. https://www.trolleytours.com/key-west?phta=kwtrolley&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI9IT71LLD1wIVFbjACh2y6wSwEAAYASAAEgJOQvD_BwE#home-section

There are several trolleys running constantly until 4:30pm every 30 minutes or so.

There are two Hop ons in Key West. One is a tram and the other a “trolley”.

Google Key West tours or tourism

Best is once you are on to take the complete tour around to see everything and then get off where you want to spend more time on the second time around.

I have found that most of those HOP Ons are usually very crowded and once off it is difficult to get back on because they are full. Most times you spend more time waiting than it would take to walk to where you are going.

Happy cruising 🌊 🛳 🇺🇸 🌅

This is true. One is a typical HOHO run by Gray Line and the other is called the Conch Train and I think (but not sure since I've not done it) it's a tour that takes you all around but you don't get on and off. If this is incorrect, I apologize and am certain someone will correct me. :) I have taken the HOHO and it's excellent...stops at the Truman White House, Southernmost point, Hemingway House, etc. I would also agree that you are better off buying tix on line ahead of time and there can be a wait for them especially if there's more than one ship in town. (We weren't on a cruise when we visited Key West)....if you're physically capable of walking, all of the things I mentioned are reasonably close together and there's loads of restaurants, bars, shops and other places to take a break for a bowl of conch chowder. :D

The Conch one we took thru the cruiseline was a narrated tour..stopped at Southernmost Point for photos....but can't recall any other stops.

We purchased our tickets through Celebrity when there was a 72 hour sale on excursions. The Old Town Trolley is a hop on hop off trolley that covers the entire area, not just the downtown area.

You can gather more details on their website: https://www.trolleytours.com/key-west/1-day-tour

Entrance to a small museum was included. We found it very interesting.

Last time Inc Key West we hired an electric golf trolley type thingy.

It was about 99 dollars and was brilliant fun. We could get ahead of the trolley so we’re always first so no lines.

They offer a pick up drop off at the port.

We booked in advance but there were some available at the pier.

Loving this idea so thanks for posting 👍

I live less than two hundred miles north of Key West and have visited often--both by car and by cruise ship; eight or ten times total--along the way... And I've done The Conch Train [tram] or Trolley during most of those visits; both have been big hits with visiting friends/cruise mates [particularly those who are "first-timers"] and either is a great way to become acclimated/get one's bearings [we tend to walk "Old Key West"/Duval Street/Mallory Square after]...

The biggest difference between the two [best I recall, both are "hop on/hop off"] is that The Conch Train [open air] route concentrates on "Old Key West" [with fewer stops; perhaps four/five] whereas the Trolley [a jitney] covers the entire island [with more stops; about fifteen]... Selection of one versus the other really depends upon what one wants to see; most come to explore historic "Old Key West" [The Conch Train is the more popular and the one I've most often used] but your personal mileage may vary... As I remember--and things surely may have changed/my memory may be bad--narration aboard The Trolley is recorded and narration aboard The Conch Train [i last did it two years ago] is live...

Both run multiple vehicles simultaneously with frequency varying by demand/tourist load... And both are readily accessible--a few blocks--from where cruise ships typically dock near Mallory Square...

I'm returning to Key West on 3 December while aboard Equinox and will again do The Conch Train with five cruise friends... While an earlier poster noted that one can book either [they tend to price out the same] at a discount [i've done so many times in the past] via the web relative to Celebrity's tour price [when available to me], that was not the case--I looked last month--for our upcoming trip [and we did not book during a Celebrity sale; it's still priced the same way today]...

Suggest that you visit the websites for both, decide which is more appealing to you in terms of content and style, check for discounts [perhaps they were suspended for a time in Irma's aftermath], and compare direct advance-reservation pricing to that offered by Celebrity to aid your decision...

Either way, you'll have fun!

I live in Key West - I can;t comment on what the ship offers but there are actually 3 Trolley options:

Conch Train

Old Town Trolley (owned by the same company as Conch Train) and

City View Trolley

Conch Train is the most known and the only one of the 3 that I have been on as one of my neighbors is a driver. It is open air so the worst option in bad weather and is focused on Old Town. City View primarily is Old Town.

Old Town Trolley has stops that go outside Old Town although I don't really see why a tourist would need or want to go there but that is up to you. I would just google each and see what looks best given the length, what you want and the price. I agree there is no need to do this through the ship unless they offer a deal which I doubt.

I agree there is no need to do this through the ship unless they offer a deal which I doubt.

As noted in my earlier post, I carefully looked at online pricing for both The Conch Train and Old Town Trolley back on 18 October before six of us booked The Conch Train [for the same "content" reasons that we have both suggested in our posts]... And I was truly surprised to learn that purchasing either tour through Celebrity--during the Equinox port call at Key West on 3 December--was a bit more cost effective than if purchased directly via the Internet [as I have always done in the past as the better alternative]...

The Internet prices for either The Conch Train or Old Town Trolley--both a month ago and today [i just looked again a few moments ago]--were and still are identical as follows...

  • Non-Military Adults Under Age 62 - $28.30 per person
  • Adults Age 62 And Older/Military - $25.47 per person

The Celebrity price for either The Conch Train or Old Town Trolley--both a month ago and today [i just looked again a few moments ago; we did not book during an excursion sale]--was and still is identical as follows...

  • All Adults Regardless Of Age Or Military Status - $25.00 per person

While I suppose it is conceivable that Celebrity's pricing could vary during other port calls at Key West during the upcoming season, I know--no doubt about it--that booking through the cruise line was the better alternative for us... Half of my six person group is younger than age 62, half is older than age 62... Total savings in our case = $11.61 [about 7.5%; virtually all of it attributable to those not yet age 62]...

The price differentials have never been significant and would never make one wealthy--even when the ship's offering was the more expensive alternative in the past by about the same margin--but the difference does but a dent in the price of a slice of Key Lime Pie or a drink! It can pay to shop and compare regardless of intuition...

There’s a long thread about the trolleys on the Key West board.

Sent from my iPad using Forums

We staying in a hotel next to the entrance to key west island bridge, we caught the local bus into the town and got off at the main tourist area, we walked to watch the sunset, walked back to town and had a meal before walking back to to the hotel.

What I'm trying to say is key west is tiny and easy ( if able) to walk around we are over 50 , we will be in key west in december , on an equinox cruuse and will be walking around the main sites again, BTW there are not nany of them.

There may not be many but what there is is not to be missed like: the Truman White House; Hemingway House; Southernmost point of the U.S. (primarily a photo stop) and the nightly sunset entertainment and view is tons of fun (trained cats) and spectacular (sunset). Old Town is more like a place to just be rather than a place where you dash around trying to see everything....there's no place quite like it really.

One Day in Key West

By Candyce H. Stapen

Last updated: December 4th, 2023

One day in Key West

  • Find a Cruise

Over the course of one day in Key West, you can experience the joie de vie of the southernmost city in the continental United States.

At only four miles long and about two miles wide, the city packs  a lot into a small space—beaches, historic homes, an iconic lighthouse, fabulous food, lively bars, interesting shops, and intriguing galleries, all wrapped up in an official philosophy of “One Human Family.”

This itinerary circles you through Key West’s highlights. You start early at the always-open attractions in order to maximize the time for museums and facilities with designated hours. But allow time to soak up the happy vibe of this quirky, tropical place, like nowhere else in the United States.

7:30 a.m.: Take Photos at Southernmost Point

Family taking a picture in front of the Southernmost Point

Southernmost Point

Make the most of your day by getting out early. Visit Southernmost Point,  South and Whitehead streets.

As the name suggests, the red, white, and black concrete buoy, with the whimsical “The Conch Republic” insignia, marks the southernmost point in the continental United States, a spot just 90 miles from Cuba. It’s a place to take selfies and to enjoy the expansive sea views.

8 a.m.: Breakfast Near Southernmost Point

Crepes on a plate

Stop for breakfast near Southernmost Point. The French-inspired bistro, the Banana Café, near the foot of Duval Street, specializes in tasty breakfast crepes but also serves bagels, lox, seafood omelets, and granola.

Alternatively, nearby Southernmost Sandy’s Café, on Duval Street, has been serving Key West Cuban and seafood cuisine since 1954. Try omelets or Cuban egg and meat sandwiches to fortify you for the day ahead.

9 a.m.: Meander Through the Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservancy

Butterflies eating fruits

Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservancy

The nearby Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservancy places you in a dreamlike garden of tropical plants, beautiful birds, including two flamingos, and hundreds of brightly colored butterflies.

A stroll through the enclosed glass aviary is peaceful and exciting, especially when a butterfly alights on your shoulder or arm.

Increase your chances of the delicate creatures being attracted to you by wearing bright red or yellow. An introductory film describes the butterfly’s life cycle from egg to caterpillar, chrysalis, and butterfly.

A bonus of a morning arrival may well be the increased chances of watching the marvel of a butterfly emerging from its chrysalis and drying its wings.

9:45 a.m.: Climb the Key West Lighthouse

View of Key West Lighthouse, Florida

Key West Lighthouse

The panoramic view of sea and sand from the top of the Key West Lighthouse is worth the 88-step climb. Constructed in 1848 and decommissioned in 1969, the lighthouse remains an iconic Key West symbol.

Exterior of Keeper’s Quarters Museum

Keeper’s Quarters Museum

In the Keeper’s Quarters Museum, you learn about some of the lighthouse keepers, including the fascinating history of Barbara Mabrity, who took over her husband’s job as keeper after his death in 1832.

Mabrity, the first woman in the U.S. with that job, maintained the 1825 lighthouse and a temporary beacon that was used after an 1846 hurricane destroyed the original lighthouse. She kept up the new 1848 lighthouse until 1864, when she retired aged 82.

10:30 a.m.: Tour the Ernest Hemingway House

One day in Key West - Ernest Hemingway House

Ernest Hemingway House

An icon of American literature, Ernest Hemingway and his wife Pauline lived at the Key West house,  a gift from Pauline’s wealthy uncle, from 1931 to 1939.

During this time, the Hemingways restored the 1851 Spanish colonial-style home and installed the first in-ground pool in Key West.

The pool cost a whopping $20,000 in 1938 dollars. Legend has it that Hemingway jokingly told Pauline to take his last penny, too, as he pressed one into the cement surrounding the pool. That penny is still visible.

Six-toed cat at the Ernest Hemingway House

Six-toed cat

Also visible are some 60 descendants of Snow White, a six-toed cat gifted to Hemingway. About half the kitties have six toes; you’ll see them around the grounds of the house.

You learn about the house, the Hemingways, and their lives in Key West on the 20-30 minute guided tour. At the house, Hemingway completed such well-known works as The Snows of Kilimanjaro and Death in the Afternoon.

11:30 a.m.: Stroll Duval Street and the Surrounding Neighborhood

One day in Key West - Duval Street

Duval Street

From the Hemingway House, walk a block or so to Duval, Key West’s main street, which stretches from the Southernmost Point marker to Mallory Square.

In the evening, Duval is a pub crawl paradise, hopping with bars and partygoers. During the day, though, the street exudes a family-friendly atmosphere, making it one of the best things to do in Key West with kids .

Street view of Duval Street

Meander up and down Duval and the surrounding streets, admire the pastel-painted homes with gingerbread trim, and browse the T-shirt and gift shops.

For an unusual souvenir, consider a lifelike statue of yourself created by 3D Mini Me Key West. After technicians scan you in a 3D photo booth, a process that takes seconds, you choose the size of the sculpture, from three to 14 inches, and the base. The shop promises you will receive the lifelike miniature within four to six weeks.

Rainbow Crosswalk in Key West

Rainbow crosswalk

The official logo of inclusive Key West is “One Happy Family.” At Duval and Petronia streets, the four crosswalks feature the stripes of the rainbow flag, a symbol of LBGTQ unity.

For local art, browse the Gallery on Greene, a showcase for Floridian, Cuban American, and international artists.  At the Key West Art Center, view works by local artists.

12:15 p.m.: Go Local for Lunch

Exterior of Sloppy Joe’s

Sloppy Joe’s

Take in some Key West history by having a drink or a meal at Sloppy Joe’s at the corner of Duval and Greene. From 1933, the establishment operated as a speakeasy on a nearby street, under a different name.

Interior of Sloppy Joe’s

In 1937, the saloon, then called the Blind Pig, moved to its current location. Hemingway, who patronized both places, convinced the owner to rename the bar Sloppy Joe’s after a Havana spot.

Menu items include conch fritters, pizza, Cuban sandwiches, and the original Sloppy Joe, a mega-sandwich of ground beef with sauce.

At the Conch Republic Seafood Company,  try the cracked conch (lightly breaded and fried), crab cakes, or mahi mahi. The restaurant plates burgers, chicken sandwiches, and other items for non-seafood lovers.

1:15 p.m.: Swim and Snorkel  at Fort Zachary Taylor State Park

Beach in Fort Zachary Taylor State Park

Fort Zachary Taylor State Park

Glistening turquoise water surrounds you in Key West. Take advantage of the setting by relaxing at Fort Zachary Taylor State Park’s beach, one of the best beaches in Key West .

Combine beach fun with history at the facility on the island’s southwestern coast, just two miles from downtown.

Rental chairs and umbrellas are available, making beach relaxing easy. Since the hard-packed sand is rocky in places, be sure to wear beach shoes. The water is relatively calm and refreshing.

Snorkelers may spot lobster, parrotfish, and other sea creatures near the jetties. The beach area has lockers, showers, and bathrooms.

For lunch, if you haven’t already had some, the park’s restaurant serves burgers, Cuban sandwiches, and other fare.

Historic forts in Fort Zachary Taylor State Park

Before departing the state park, explore the historic fort. Situated where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Gulf of Mexico, the stone fort, completed in 1866 and controlled by Union forces, guarded the area against Confederate forces.

Known for a large collection of Civil War weapons and equipment, the fort’s row of cannons impresses. See them on a guided tour or explore on your own.

3 p.m.: Discover the Booty of Spanish Galleons at the Mel Fisher Museum

Exterior of Mel Fisher Museum

Gold coins, gold and silver jewelry, emeralds, and a gold chalice embedded with stones that supposedly neutralize poison are some dazzling exhibits at the Mel Fisher Museum.

Fisher, a persistent and renowned wreck diver, salvaged items from the Nuestra Senora de Atocha and the Santa Margarita vessels, both of which sunk off the Florida Keys in 1622.

After a 16-year search, Fisher found the Spanish galleons in 1985, salvaging more than $400 million in treasure.

Learn about Fisher’s quest, the scientific tools used to identify the sunken vessels, and piracy and the slave trade.

4 p.m.: Take a Key Lime Pie Break

Exterior of Kermit’s Key Lime Shoppe

Kermit’s Key Lime Shoppe

Key lime pie is a famous dessert that Key West is known for . The iconic treat, the official state pie of Florida, uses Key limes, a variety that’s juicier and sweeter than Persian limes.

Locals consider the dessert to have been invented in Key West, although some food historians dispute that. Never mind; the custard and graham cracker crust pie is delicious.

People eating at Kermit’s Key Lime Shoppe

Many places serve delectable versions of this treat. Consider ordering slices from Kermit’s Key Lime Shoppe, Key Lime Pie Company, or the Key Lime Pie Bakery

Key Lime Pie Company. Some places even feature slices dipped in chocolate.  Near Mallory Square, El Meson de Pepe, a Cuban restaurant, serves a delicious version called torta de limon, plus fragrant Cuban coffee.

4:30 p.m.: Visit Mallory Square

Waterfront view of Mallory Square

Mallory Square

Key West is the kind of place where there’s a party at Mallory Square every night. Two hours before the sun sets, musicians and jugglers start arriving, as do food vendors and local artists selling canvasses and trinkets.

Seattle Shore Excursions Offer a Chance to Discover the Emerald City’s Charms

Seattle shore excursions offer Alaska cruise passengers an opportunity to explore “the Emerald City” beyond its legendary Space Needle, and become captivated by its many charms. Seattle comes by its nickname naturally, as the city and its environs are perpetually green. It’s surrounded by parks, forests, and mountains, and is set picture-perfect between Puget Sound and Lake Washington.

The marine setting beckons visitors to enjoy activities on the water and throughout the lively waterfront and you can book shore excursions before or after your Alaska cruise from Seattle that offer everything from ferry rides across the Sound and sunset cruises aboard luxury yachts, to Aquarium visits to view marine mammal and Pacific coral reef exhibits. There are stretches of restaurants for every taste from picnic lunches to fine dining, with indoor and outdoor spaces to enjoy the food and the view.

For an unparalleled view of the city that comes with the thrill you can only get from a ride on a Ferris wheel, the Seattle Big Wheel is not to be missed. The Wheel towers over the waterfront and is almost as famous as the Space Needle.

And without a doubt, Seattle shore excursions that include a trip to the Observation Deck of the Space Needle, with or without a meal or drink at the revolving restaurant, are a must. And, booking a combo tour that includes a visit to Chihuly Garden and Glass to revel in genius glassblower-artist Dale Chihuly’s fantastic and whimsical exhibits and lush gardens is your own kind of genius.

One of the most fascinating of Seattle cruise excursions combines a city tour with an opportunity to learn about the Northwest Coastal Native Tribe on a boating tour to Tillicum Village. The village, accessible only by boat, is located on Blake Island, where visitors are treated to a buffet feast of salmon roasted on cedar stakes; a native dance performance, film and storytelling follows.

Intrepid food explorers will love an opportunity to revel in the sights, smells, and sounds of the Pike Place Market, the oldest continuously operated public market in the U.S. Visitors flock to this extraordinary market as much for the incredible variety of its fresh-from-the-sea fish and seafood, as for the amazing sing-song banter and fish-throwing routines found at Flying Fish, one of the market’s oldest vendors. In addition to an amazing fruits and vegetables, breads and cheeses, you’ll find many ethnic food stands, and an array of artisan handicrafts.

There’s Something for Everyone on Bermuda Shore Excursions

Lazing on amazing pink-sand beaches ; snorkeling through clear blue waters; sailing on a luxury catamaran with a tropical drink in hand; pub crawling in Hamilton—these are just a few of the Bermuda shore excursions you can schedule when your port of call is Royal Naval Dockyard.

Bermuda cruise excursions that combine activities like sightseeing and beach trips are perfect ways to appreciate the history, culture, and natural beauty of the island. Take a guided tour the entire length of the island, then spend time relaxing on a beach chaise. Stroll a 12-acre nature reserve with walking trails and spectacular views of Castle Harbor.

Sightsee in high tech style on a Segway tour of the Royal Naval Dockyard   that includes the Victualling Yard, center of naval operations, Casemates Prison, and the Clocktower Mall and shops.

Book one of the most popular Bermuda shore excursions: Board a sleek and spacious catamaran, one of the largest and most luxurious in all of Bermuda, which sails to a protected cove, where you can swim or snorkel, and enjoy splashing around in calm, clear water, and wiggling your toes in that iconic pink sand. Stop for an ice cream treat at one of the best sweet spots on the island.

There’s no shortage of fabulous food finds on Bermuda, and when you book a culinary tour with guest chef Bryan Voltaggio, a James Beard Award-nominee and “Top Chef” finalist, who’s partnered with a renowned Bermuda chef, you’ll be treated to a visit to the island’s only organic farm with behind the scenes glimpses of the farm’s animal housings and greenhouses. And, your instructors will prepare Bermudian feast, using seasonal farm-fresh ingredients, for an unforgettable farm-to-table experience.

Enjoy an afternoon of sightseeing with a trip to Haydon Trust Park and Chapel, a lovely acreage of lush gardens, which houses 10 old buildings, including the smallest chapel on the island, dating back to the 1620s, and Somerset Bridge, the world’s smallest drawbridge. Conclude your sightseeing adventure with a very proper, very British afternoon tea that includes tea sandwiches, scones and teacakes.

Family-friendly Bermuda shore excursions include swim-with-dolphins fun and games; glass-bottom boat trips that show off the undersea world of tropical fish, sea grass, and even a shipwreck; and a crystal caves exploration, complete with stalagmites and stalactites, in tandem with a visit to the island’s aquarium, museum, and zoo.
