  • Contactless help & FAQs

Contactless FAQs

What is the difference between tap & cap and paying by contactless.

Tap & Cap can only be used to pay for Adult West Midlands Single, Day and 3 or 7 day capped tickets. You can buy any single or Day ticket on the bus when paying by contactless.

Which contactless cards are accepted on the bus?

Most contactless cards issued from the UK can be used on our buses. We do not accept the following: American Express, Diners Club, JCB or Union Pay Fees or charges may apply if non UK cards are used, for further details please check with your bank.

Can any contactless card/device be used on every bus?

You can use your contactless card/device on most National Express buses. You may not be able to use contactless on certain special services. These may include school services, sporting or leisure event services or specific works services.

Where can I see my payments or the journeys I have made?

To see journeys and payments you have made, please use the buttons below:

I used my credit/debit card    I used my mobile device

Why have I had more than one payment taken on the same day?

You may find that there are more than one pending payments showing on the day that you travel. At the end of our working day our system will check your total journeys and cap this at the best price for you. Our working day starts at 3am and ends at 2:59am the following day. If you have travelled on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday or bank holiday payments will be taken the next working day. This will mean that you will have more than one payment showing at this time. If you are unsure about your payments you can see the journeys you have made by clicking the buttons below:

Why has my card not worked on the bus?

If you see a red screen when you have tried to pay using your contactless card/device, please wait for 5 seconds and try again. If this happens again, your payment has not gone through. You will need to find a different way to pay for your journey. Our drivers will not know why your card/device has not worked on the reader.

I think my card is blocked, what do I do?

If your card/device has been blocked, you will need to contact your card issuer. We do not have the ability to block or unblock contactless cards/devices.

Tap & Cap

What is tap & cap.

This is a quick and easy way of paying for Adult travel on our buses, without the need of hunting for change. Make as many bus journeys as you like using the same card/device from Monday to Sunday and we will cap your payment to give you the best value for your travel.

How does Tap & Cap work?

Simply tap your contactless card/device to the reader, wait for the green screen and take a seat. Don't forget - No ticket will be printed - You don't need to tap your card/device when you leave the bus - You need to use the same card/device for every journey you make - We cannot cap your payment if you use Tap & Cap alongside regular contactless payments

What are the Tap & Cap prices?

3 day and maximum capping is calculated for journeys made between a set time period of Monday to Sunday.

I have been charged £6 for one day of travel...

Sometimes transactions are not communicated immediately if a bus cannot connect to the network. We will store the information until it is connected securely, this can lead to a higher charge than expected when the delayed payment is added. Please check your previous travel as you should find you've been charged correctly. I used my credit/debit card    I used my mobile device

Can I pay for someone else using Tap & Cap?

Tap & Cap is not suitable to buy tickets for other people because you have to use the same contactless card/device every time you travel for the payments to be capped. If you need to buy tickets for other people, you are able to pay using contactless by asking the driver for the tickets you need. For more information please see our paying by contactless information below.

Can I pay for child travel using Tap & Cap?

Tap & Cap cannot be used to buy child tickets. If you need to pay for child tickets on the bus, you can pay using contactless. For more information please see our paying by contactless information below.

Can I pay for Short Hop journeys using Tap & Cap?

Tap & Cap cannot be used to pay for Short Hop journeys. If you need to buy a Short Hop ticket, you can pay using contactless. For more information please see our paying by contactless information below.

How will a bus inspector know that I have paid?

Bus Inspectors will be given a list of Tap & Cap customers from the driver. If you have used a credit/debit card: You will need to provide the inspector with the last 4 digits of the card number. If you have used Apple Pay: You will need to go into the 'Wallet & Apple Pay' from your settings, select the card and then click on 'Info' to display the Device Account Number. This will be different to the last 4 digits of your card number. If you have used Android Pay: You will need to go into the Android Pay app, select the card and display the Virtual Account Number. This will be different to the last 4 digits of your card number.

If the bus cannot continue and we have to board another, do I tap again?

If you have to change your bus during a journey due to it breaking down or driver availability at a changeover point, you do not need to tap your card again on the replacement bus. Drivers and Inspectors will be made aware of this.

What is FlixBus?

Is flixbus available in the u.s., what amenities does flixbus provide, how to book flixbus tickets, how much is a flixbus ticket, how much luggage can you take on flixbus, what is flixbus' cancellation policy, is flixbus legit.

In the last decade, FlixBus has become a go-to long-distance bus company across Europe. It’s become an internationally recognized travel brand providing passengers with a convenient, inexpensive, eco-friendly bus and rail experience.

Here is what you need to know about FlixBus, how to book a ticket and how much it costs.

FlixBus is a European intercity transport operator based in Munich. The company was founded by three entrepreneurs with a goal of making travel affordable and convenient, and a sustainable alternative to private transport.

FlixBus claims to apply high environmental standards to its fleet of buses by using alternative drive and fuel technologies, so saving money goes hand in hand with saving the environment.

With the addition of FlixTrain, the company began offering intermodal travel options. Flix is now the largest long-distance bus network in Europe. It’s now available in more than 40 countries in Europe, North America, South America and India.

Yes, FlixBus is available in the U.S. In 2021, Flix acquired Greyhound, the largest intercity bus company in North America, meaning you can book Greyhound buses through the FlixBus site or app for travel across the United States.

In terms of onboard amenities on long-distance buses, FlixBus passengers have access to free Wi-Fi, extra legroom and electricity outlets. Coach buses are also equipped with lavatories. As for luggage allowance, each passenger is allowed one carry-on and one checked bag that goes in the storage compartment under the bus.

FlixBus provides an easy-to-use digital booking platform. You can start booking your FlixBus ticket on the website or on the app.

Numerous cities in Europe are connected by FlixBus, so you should have no problem finding a bus on your preferred route.

Say you want to travel from Zagreb, Croatia, to Split, Croatia. You’d start your search by selecting a one-way or a round-trip journey, departure and destination cities, departure date and number of passengers. Once every field is filled out, click “Search.”

nx bus free travel

Bus departures are listed in chronological order, but you can re-sort them by lowest price, shortest duration or back by the earliest departure.

You can also toggle the departure and arrival time sliders to narrow down your search. This works well if you’re trying to be somewhere on a certain schedule. For example, you have tickets to a sporting event in the arrival city or need to be at an airport for a flight.

nx bus free travel

Among the results, the tickets with the lowest price and the fastest trip will be indicated in green. In some cases, the same bus departure can be both the least expensive and will get you to your destination the quickest.

nx bus free travel

Once you choose your departure time, fill out passenger information and complete your purchase by clicking on the “Pay now” button.

nx bus free travel

Once your ticket is reserved, you’ll receive a PDF confirmation with a QR code that you can use to board a bus. You don’t have to print your FlixBus ticket — a digital version will do.

As with all things travel, FlixBus prices vary based on demand and route. Bus tickets start at just 5 euros ($5.50) and go up from there. U.S. routes start at $4.99. Generally speaking, the earlier you book your ticket, the less you’ll pay.

All transactions charge a flat service fee of $4.49, so if you’re traveling with multiple passengers, it’s best to book all the tickets at once to lower your overall per-ticket cost.

At checkout, you'll also notice an option to pay a little extra to offset your carbon dioxide emissions through Atmosfair, a German nonprofit climate protection organization. These voluntary donations are used to develop renewable energies in developing countries and thus offset the carbon dioxide that fossil fuels would have created in those countries.

nx bus free travel

The FlixBus luggage allowance is as generous as you’d find on a full-service airline. Each FlixBus ticket includes one piece of hand, or carry-on, luggage and one piece of travel, or hold, luggage.

FlixBus baggage dimensions are as follows:

Hand luggage: 16 x 12 x 7 inches (42 x 30 x 18 centimeters), weighing up to 15 pounds (7 kilograms).

Hold luggage: 31 x 20 x 12 inches (80 x 50 x 30 centimeters), weighing up to 44 pounds (20 kilograms).

It’s worth noting that there may be exceptions to the policy, depending on the route.

If you have excess or bulky baggage, you can pay extra for additional luggage either at booking or by managing your reservation after completing the booking process.

nx bus free travel

FlixBus claims to provide maximum flexibility at the lowest price. If your plans change, you can cancel your ticket or rebook for a different departure date or time. If your new ticket is more expensive, you’ll have to cover the difference. If it’s less expensive, you’ll receive a voucher for the price difference.

Fees apply to both changes and cancellations. They are based on when you make a modification.

You can cancel your FlixBus ticket as late as 15 minutes before departure for a partial refund. Excess baggage and seat selection fees are 100% refundable, but note that the service fees aren’t.

Yes, FlixBus is a legitimate transport company that provides a great option for affordable travel, especially in Europe. Its user-friendly website is easy to navigate, and sustainability efforts are noteworthy. If FlixBus covers your route, there’s no harm in taking a ride and trying it for yourself.

The city streets are full of remnants of the communist regime and the Cold War. This is a walking tour where I will show you the most exciting places in Soviet Moscow: from the notorious KGB headquarters, also known as Lubyanka to the Karl Marx Monument to small hidden remains from the time of hammer and sickle. Moscow has several airports serving both domestic and international flights, and each airport has its own transportation options. In this guide, we will discuss the different ways to travel from the Moscow airports to the city center.

Sheremetyevo International Airport (SVO):

Sheremetyevo Airport is the largest airport in Moscow and is located about 29 kilometers northwest of the city center. Here are the transportation options available:

  • Aeroexpress Train: The Aeroexpress train is the fastest and most convenient way to reach the city center from Sheremetyevo Airport. The train runs every 30 minutes and takes around 35-40 minutes to reach Belorussky Railway Station. From there, you can easily transfer to the Moscow Metro or take a taxi to your final destination.
  • Taxi: Taxis are available at the airport, and you can either pre-book one or find them at the designated taxi stands. It is important to choose official taxi services or use ride-hailing apps like Yandex.Taxi for a safe and reliable ride.
  • Bus: Several bus routes connect Sheremetyevo Airport with different parts of Moscow. The bus stops can be found at the terminal exits, and it is advisable to check the routes and schedules before your arrival.

Domodedovo International Airport (DME):

Located about 42 kilometers south of Moscow, Domodedovo Airport is another major airport in the city. Here are the transportation options available from this airport:

  • Aeroexpress Train: Similar to Sheremetyevo Airport, Domodedovo also has an Aeroexpress train service that operates between the airport and Paveletsky Railway Station. The journey takes around 40-45 minutes, and from Paveletsky station, you can transfer to the Moscow Metro or take a taxi.
  • Taxi: Official taxis and ride-hailing services are available at Domodedovo Airport. Always opt for licensed taxis or trusted ride-hailing apps to ensure a smooth and safe journey.
  • Bus: Several bus routes connect the airport with various locations in Moscow. The bus stops can be found outside the terminal buildings, and it is advisable to check the bus routes and schedules beforehand.

Vnukovo International Airport (VKO):

Vnukovo Airport is the closest airport to the city center, located approximately 28 kilometers southwest of Moscow. Here are the transportation options available:

  • Aeroexpress Train: The Aeroexpress train from Vnukovo Airport runs to Kievsky Railway Station in the city center. The journey takes around 35-40 minutes, and from Kievsky Station, you can easily transfer to the Moscow Metro or take a taxi.
  • Taxi: Official taxi services and ride-hailing apps are available at Vnukovo Airport. Make sure to use licensed taxis or trusted ride-hailing apps for a secure and reliable ride.
  • Bus: Several bus routes connect the airport with different parts of Moscow. The bus stops can be found outside the terminal buildings, and it is recommended to check the bus routes and schedules in advance.

It is always a good idea to research the transportation options and plan your journey before arriving at any of the Moscow airports. Consider factors such as budget, convenience, and the number of passengers in your group when choosing the most suitable option. With the variety of transportation options available, reaching the city center from any of the Moscow airports should be a hassle-free experience.

Is it Possible to Travel to China on a Tourist Visa?

Navigating Moscow's public transportation system can seem daunting at first, but with a few simple tips, you'll be able to travel from Moscow's airport to the city center with ease.

  • Understand the transportation options: Moscow has an extensive public transportation network that includes buses, trams, trolleybuses, and the metro. Familiarize yourself with these options before your trip so you can choose the most convenient one for you.
  • Research the airport connections: Depending on the airport you arrive at, there are different transportation options available. For example, if you arrive at Domodedovo Airport, you can take the Aeroexpress train, while Sheremetyevo Airport offers both the Aeroexpress train and shuttle buses. Check the official airport website or ask the information desk for the most up-to-date information.
  • Use the Aeroexpress train: The Aeroexpress train is one of the fastest and most convenient ways to travel from the airport to the city center. It operates from all three major airports (Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo, and Vnukovo) and provides a direct connection to specific train stations in Moscow. Tickets can be purchased at the airport or online, and the journey takes around 35-45 minutes.
  • Consider taking a taxi: Taking a taxi is another option for getting from Moscow's airports to the city center. There are official taxi services available at each airport, or you can use ride-hailing apps like Uber or Yandex.Taxi. Keep in mind that traffic in Moscow can be quite congested, so the travel time by taxi may vary.
  • Learn the metro system: Moscow's metro system is efficient, affordable, and the easiest way to get around the city once you're in the center. The metro stations are well connected and have clear signage in both Russian and English. Purchase a reusable Troika card at any metro station and top it up with the desired amount. Trains run from around 6 am to 1 am.
  • Plan your route: Before heading out, plan your route using online map services or mobile apps like Yandex.Maps or Google Maps. These apps provide real-time information about public transportation options, including bus, tram, and trolleybus routes, as well as metro connections. They can help you optimize your journey and avoid unnecessary transfers.
  • Be aware of rush hours: Moscow's public transportation system can get crowded during peak hours, especially on weekdays from 8 am to 10 am and 5 pm to 8 pm. If possible, try to avoid traveling during these times to make your journey more comfortable.
  • Ask for help if needed: Don't hesitate to ask for assistance if you're unsure about something. Most Russians are friendly and willing to help, especially if you ask politely. There are also information desks at major metro stations and at the airport where you can get guidance.

By following these simple tips, you'll be able to navigate Moscow's public transportation system with ease and reach the city center from the airport in no time. Remember to plan your route, consider using the Aeroexpress train, and familiarize yourself with the metro system to make the most of your journey.

Understanding the Visa Requirements for Traveling in South America

When it comes to traveling from Moscow airport to the city, there are a few options to choose from. One of the most popular choices is taking a taxi or using a rideshare service. Whether you are a tourist or a local, it is important to consider a few factors when selecting a taxi or rideshare service to ensure a smooth and hassle-free journey.

Firstly, you need to consider the cost. Taxis and rideshare services may have different pricing structures, so it is important to compare the rates of different companies before making a decision. Some taxis may charge a flat rate, while others may charge by the distance traveled or the time taken. On the other hand, rideshare services often have dynamic pricing, which means that the fare can vary based on the demand at that particular time.

Another factor to consider is the reputation and reliability of the taxi or rideshare service. It is always a good idea to choose a well-established company with positive reviews and a good track record. This will ensure that you are getting a professional and reliable service. You can check online reviews or ask for recommendations from locals or fellow travelers to get an idea of the reputation of different taxi companies or rideshare services in Moscow.

In addition to reputation, it is also important to consider the safety of the taxi or rideshare service. Make sure that the drivers are licensed, and the vehicles are well-maintained and meet the necessary safety standards. You can inquire about these details when booking the service or look for any certifications or licenses displayed in the vehicle.

Convenience is another factor to consider. Check if the taxi or rideshare service offers options such as booking in advance, multiple payment methods, or the ability to track the location of the driver. These features can make your journey more convenient and give you peace of mind.

Finally, consider the level of comfort provided by the taxi or rideshare service. If you have a lot of luggage or are traveling with a group, make sure that the vehicle can accommodate your needs. Some taxis or rideshare services may offer different vehicle options to choose from, such as sedans or larger vehicles like minivans.

In conclusion, when choosing a taxi or rideshare service from Moscow airport to the city, consider factors such as cost, reputation, safety, convenience, and comfort. By taking these considerations into account, you can make an informed decision and enjoy a comfortable and stress-free journey from the airport to your destination in Moscow.
