Camel cancel 2023 Europe and UK live dates

Back surgery for mainman Andy Latimer scuppers Camel's The Final Chapter live dates

Andy Latimer

UK prog legends  Camel have announced that they have cancelled their upcoming live dates as guitarist and singer Andy Latimer requires urgent back surgery.

The band were originally due to head out on their The Final Chapter tour across Europe in May with UK dates following in June . However last night the band announced on their website these had now been cancelled.

In a statement on the band's website they said: "It is with great sadness and regret that Camel Productions must announce the cancellation of Camel's 2023 tour.  Shortly after rehearsals, Andrew Latimer became troubled by a sharp pain in his lower back that advanced into his leg and foot.  He was sent for diagnostic tests which quickly revealed a severe condition that requires urgent surgery.  Recovery time is uncertain and it is this uncertainty that prevents us looking at other options such as postponement. However recovery is suggested to take 8-12 weeks minimum so there is no possibility of Andrew continuing with the tour. And without Andrew, there can be no tour so cancellation is unavoidable.   "We know this news will be immensely upsetting to fans as it is to the band.  We are all so grateful for the support of fans who purchased tickets and particularly appreciative of the many emails from fans near and afar who shared their excitement.  hroughout his career, Andrew Latimer has had numerous physical challenges on tours and has always overcome them. Camel look to the future for another opportunity to write The Final Chapter."

Latimer famously recovered from the rare bone marrow cancer myelofibrosis, from which he suffered throughout the early part of the 2000s, with the band returning to touring in 2013.

Camel cancels farewell tour due to andy latimer’s urgent surgery.

' src=

Camel ‘s farewell tour was canceled due to a health emergency, as stated on the band’s official website. According to the explanation, the fate of the upcoming tour is uncertain because the band’s guitarist, Andy Latimer , has to undergo surgery.

Camel was getting ready to take the stage for the last time as a band with ‘The Final Chapter,’ and their fans were excited about the upcoming shows. Unfortunately, Andy Latimer’s health condition created an obstacle to the initial plans.

In the statement shared on their website, the band expressed their sadness over announcing the cancellation of the tour and explained that the guitarist was experiencing serious problems with his lower back . To resolve it, he needed an operation and an indefinite amount of time to heal, causing making the cancellation obligatory.

The text covering the situation read as follows:

“It is with great sadness and regret that Camel Productions must announce the cancellation of Camel’s 2023 tour. Shortly after rehearsals, Andrew Latimer became troubled by a sharp pain in his lower back that advanced into his leg and foot. He was sent for diagnostic tests, which quickly revealed a severe condition that requires urgent surgery .

Recovery time is uncertain, and it is this uncertainty that prevents us [from] looking at other options, such as postponement. However, recovery is suggested to take 8-12 weeks minimum, so there is no possibility of Andrew continuing with the tour. And without Andrew, there can be no tour, so cancellation is unavoidable .”

Following the first part of the statement, the band wrote:

“We know this news will be immensely upsetting to fans as it is to the band. We are all so grateful for the support of fans who purchased tickets and particularly appreciative of the many emails from fans near and afar who shared their excitement. Throughout his career, Andrew Latimer has had numerous physical challenges on tours and has always overcome them. Camel look to the future for another opportunity to write The Final Chapter . “

Camel’s farewell tour was put aside, and there will not be a new date announcement until Andy Latimer’s condition and recovery process take a more certain shape. Hopefully, the guitarist will get well soon, and the band will meet their fans one more time before their retirement.

Camel-50-Years-Strong-Tour

UK prog legends Camel have announced a short run of English and Scottish tour dates for 2023, under the banner of ’50 Years Strong’. Of course Camel formed in 1971 but released their self-titled debut album in 1973.

The current line-up features founding member Andy Latimer alongside long-standing bass player Colin Bass and drummer Denis Clement and more recent addition Peter Jones (Tiger Moth Tales, Cyan) on keyboards.

These will be the band’s first live dates for five years, since they celebrated the release of 1975’s Moonmadness , culminating in a stunning show at London’s Royal Albert Hall in September 2018. Tickets and further information about all the shows is available from the band’s official website .

‘Asia’: The Continent-Straddling Debut Of A Rock Supergroup

‘nursery cryme’: phil collins and steve hackett join the genesis cast, ‘the single factor’: a camel classic that wears its years lightly.

Pioneers in the field of the ambitious concept album and masters of progressive rock, not to mention their facility with space jams and symphonic structures, Camel have been a fixture on the scene since the young group formed in the early 1970s. Still thrilling their fans today – they’ve been touring their classic The Snow Goose and playing it in its entirety – Camel is one of those names that everyone knows but may not yet have discovered.

Their legacy is there for all to bear witness – tribute acts and groups directly inspired by their work exist in Japan and Norway, and their British fan base remains as solid as ever. The chance to revisit them or to enjoy their music for the first time gives added piquancy to a formidable catalogue which features the original core line-up and subsequent ensembles boosted by top-notch specialists.

Camel’s ’50 Years Strong’ England and Scotland tour dates for 2023 include the following shows:

Jun 2: Manchester O2 Apollo Jun 3: Edinburgh Usher Hall Jun 6: Southampton O2 Guildhall Jun 7: Aylesbury Friars Waterside Jun 8: Birmingham Symphony Hall Jun 10: London Eventim Apollo.

CAMEL Lift Up A Massive Box Set

2023 marks the 50th anniversary of CAMEL ‘s self-titled debut longplay, one of the most memorable statements in the field of prog-rock with instrumental slant, and what’s a better way to celebrate this date than to embark on a tour and compile a great box set? Unfortunately, the ensemble had to cancel their 2023 concert trek due to leader, Andy Latimer’s surgery – which was successful – yet the massive collection of the band’s classic era material will be issued on May 26th.

What is to be put out under the title “Air Born: The MCA & Decca Years 1973-1984” to span a little more than the first decade of the group’s existence comprises a whopping 27 CDs and five Blu-ray discs and includes ten studio albums – half of these featured not only in remastered form but also as new stereo mixes and 5.1 Surround Sound versions – from that period as well as a lot of concert recordings in both audio and video variants, plus lavishly illustrated book with essay and a poster. I tried to attribute all of it as best as I could below, since details on particular discs are scarce, and even the cover artwork is temporary, yet the tracklist is impressive – as is the package’s price which seems to fluctuate around 150 dollars, euro or pounds, depending on the territory. Time to save up, then.

Camel is an English progressive rock band, formed by singer and guitarist Andrew Latimer in 1971, hailing from Guildford, Surrey, in the UK.

Originally formed as a trio named The Brew consisting of Andrew Latimer, drummer Andy Ward and bassist Doug Ferguson, the band released an album as the backing-band for singer-songwriter Phillip Goodhand-Tait entitled “I Think I’ll Write a Song”. After recruiting keyboardist Peter Bardens and changing their name to Camel, the group signed with MCA Records who issued their eponymously-titled debut in 1972.

The album failed to draw any attention and Camel subsequently signed with Deram Records to release their sophomore “Mirage” in 1974. Despite not charting in the UK, “Mirage” found success in the States, earning the band a three-month tour of the U.S.'s west coast. The band’s third “The Snow Goose” (1975), inspired by the Paul Gallico novella of the same name, marked Camel’s official breakthrough. The album, which reached No. 30 in the UK albums chart was considered a masterpiece in symphonic rock, and gained an intimidatingly positive response from the musical press.

Camel’s subsequent album “Moonmadness” (1976), became the band’s highest charting album in the States, however was the last to feature the original line-up, with Ferguson departing shortly after its release. He was replaced by Richard Sinclair for the band’s fourth full-length “Rain Dances” in 1977, and as tensions were running high between Latimer and Bardens, the latter left the group following the release of “Breathless” in 1978.

With the emergence of punk rock, Camel’s brand of progressive rock took a hit both in terms of sales and press coverage, and their 1979 album “I Can See Your House From Here” received less attention than any of its predecessors. In 1981 Camel returned to release another concept album “Nude”, marking the departure of Ward with a serious hand injury, followed by “The Single Factor” in 1982, and “Stationary Traveller” in 1984. The same year the live album “Pressure Points” was issued, and following being dropped by Deram, Camel underwent an extended hiatus until 1991. Having packed his things and moved to California, Latimer, now the only consistent member of Camel, started the label Camel Productions, through which he issued Camel’s 1991 album “Dust and Dreams”.

Latimer has subsequently released “Harbour of Tears” in 1996, “Rajaz” in 1999, and “A Nod and a Wink” in 2002. The compilation album “Rainbows End: An Anthology 1973-1985” saw its release in 2010, followed by a re-recording of “The Snow Goose” in 2013.

Live reviews

Kicked off prompt at 7.30pm - no support band (no need that's why). Andy and the current line up went through first half playing "Moonmadness" so note perfect it was like dropping the vinyl and having them spring out and start playing in front of you. Skilful, ear-worm melodies. Colin Bass did a lovely job on vocals especially "Spirit of the Water" - they made the album sound still fresh and intriguing.

Second half was material old and newer. "Ice" was played with love and got a great reaction. The wonderful "Lady Fantasy" finished the set and was powerful - this song's from 1974 but still takes you somewhere pastoral and folky.

The whole gig took you somewhere more positive and caring than today's world - credit to Latimer sticking to his guns and his sound.

The line up other than Andy (guitars; flute; recorder) had Colin Bass (er, bass); Denis Clement (drums and superb); and the wonderful Pete Jones (keyboards; saxophone. All except Denis did vocals at different point.

Simply superb and RAH a great venue with well-produced sound.

The venue was packed, not just with hardcore Camel fans but a fair proportion were dragged along wives and sons.

The first set was, in full, the album they were celebrating during this tour, followed by an extended set 2 of assorted tracks. Remarkably faithful to the original sound but jazzed up/rocked up in places to make the occasion something special.

Not only was this a fantastic gig but it was nice to see 2 veterans of prog rock clearly having fun together on stage, accompanied by incredibly talented new(ish) members.

Camel will be on the road again in 2023. I hope to be catching them in Oslo, Stockholm and later in London. I see that this tour also will be called The Final Chapter, so it seems that this one might be a farewell tour. https://www.camelproductions.com/tou...tourdates.html

JKL2000 is online now

I guess the US already had our final chapter. Well, glad that Andy is up to touring!

Do not suffer through the game of chance that plays....always doors to lock away your dreams (To Be Over)

I bought tickets for the show in Utrecht. They are not my favorite band but I never get tired of Andys guitar playing.

It was a sad day for us USA Camel fans when he moved from California back to England. Having said that JKL, it's only a plane flight away from NYC!

I guess I'll never understand the quirks and idiosyncrasies of the booking/promotion business. Like... How can it pay for a promoter to bring Camel to Japan for four shows in one club, nothing more... But then no one can profitably bring them to the US? You would think five or six East Coast dates without much travel could generate a similar profit for a promoter here as it apparently does in the land of the rising sun... But I must be missing something, right? Because no one is doing it... Are the Japanese fans willing to pay far more for their tickets than are US fans? Are performance visas cheaper and easier to get in Japan? (I would doubt it, but it's gotta be something...). Does anyone have some factual knowledge about this issue?

But if he still lived here, it would easier for him to mount a US tour. Originally Posted by arturs I guess I'll never understand the quirks and idiosyncrasies of the booking/promotion business. I can only imagine that they recoup part of their expenses through merchandise sales and so maybe they rely on the Japanese to spend more money on CDs, t-shirts, etc. It could also be that if you are playing one show and not traveling, it cuts down on expenses. Moving from city to city, even in the packed northeast, there's going to be some expense with that. Just my own speculation, I have no idea. Just sucks that for another Camel tour, they aren't playing anywhere in the US.

I could go and see them in Southampton (UK) but the tix are very expensive, maybe - we'll see.

His comments that night were something along the lines of "this is the easiest tour I've ever done. I simply followed interstate 95 and hopped off to the nearest venue then hopped back on." Mind you were talking about 1 person with minimum gear etc. vs. a whole band. But he had a point..

I don't know what they get these days, but back in the 00's Camel charged an enormous guarantee to do a show. Most U.S. promoters could simply not afford them. We inquired back when I was involved in ProgDay and Camel alone would have cost more than the budget for the entire festival. I used to know what Rob and Chad paid them for NEARfest. It is getting fuzzy these days, and I don't remember the exact amount, but it was a lot of money.

But he made 4 lp's while he lived here and toured everyone on those in California. They even had rehearsal gigs here, San Rafael and Lake Tahoe were particularly good. They played San Jose, Palo Alto, San Francisco and Santa Cruz as proper gigs... a few in LA as well. Other that that I beleive it was one show in Virginia and one show in the NYC area. I knew someone on team Camel when they lived here... it really came down not being able to find a promoter. Second thing was the wide open space of the USA and the travel cost because of that.

one of the best things that occurred behind the scenes at Nf 2003 was Andy Latimer imitating my American accent the day after my now infamous party-busting in the hotel suite under his room. He and Susan heard the whole thing through the vent...
Originally Posted by nearfest It was worth every single penny. Want to fill a 2000 seat hall? You have to pony up for BIG bands... I didn't mean to imply that is was not worth it as I loved every second of it, but my point was that the cost that Camel wanted to play a gig was a big part of the reason there were not more U.S. shows back then. Most promoters were not going to have the resources to shell out that kind of money. Someone had asked the question why they did not play more in the U.S.

I didn't think you implied it wasn't worth it. It was. NF was lucky to have the audience funding to make stuff like this happen.

I’m A Celebrity winner gets a warning from the police for ‘causing a disturbance’

Sam Thompson winning I'm A Celebrity

Sam Thompson and Pete Wicks were told off by the police after fans went ‘wild’ for the TV personalities as they passed through Nottingham.

The Made In Chelsea star, who was dubbed King of the Jungle in 2023, travelled across the UK with podcast co-host, The Only Way is Essex star Pete, in April for their fast-selling Staying Relevant Tour.

Their flashy tour bus featured their names emblazoned in massive letters, huge avatars of themselves and the tour name written in gold. Needless to say, it was an eye-catching vehicle, costing £15,000 for the decor alone.

As Sam, 31, and Pete, 36, travelled to the north – including cities such as Manchester and Newcastle. They originally planned to travel through Nottingham on their route, but were forced to change their plans.

As Sam told the Daily Mail , when they arrived hoards of fans had caught whiff of their plans and showed up to enthusiastically greet them.

At the time they were warned about causing a disturbance and forced to change route, although Sam found it ‘absolutely hilarious’.

Sam Thompson and Pete Wicks in front of their tour bus

It was only on Friday that they discovered the whole debacle had been reported by the Nottingham police due to ‘the tour bus’.

‘Apparently, we created a disturbance on the roads, and basically, they were like, we can’t have people honking their horns at you all the time because we had our faces plastered all over the tour bus,’ the reality star told the publication.

As they travelled through ‘there were literally so many cars beeping us and passengers were filming us and stuff like that’.

Sam Thompson winning I'm A Celeb in 2023

The I’m A Celeb winner continued: ‘The drivers were beeping their horns to the point where the police in Nottingham got in touch and were like,

‘”Guys, we can’t have you driving through Nottingham like this. You’re creating disturbance on the roads”, which I found absolutely hilarious.’

‘So we had to circumnavigate and go a different way because it was going wild in Nottingham.’

Both Sam and Pete have had to bat off the advances of their adoring fanbase while on stage as well.

https://www.instagram.com/p/C5Oi0bQrrNs/

Sam recalled several pairs of underwear and bras being chucked on stage for the men to pick up that, on occasion, even had messages transcribed on them.

‘There was also a lady who took off her bra on when she was at her seat and then whipped her bra onto stage. So she just had nothing there.

‘I was more so the underwear picker upper, where I would I would pick it up [and] be like, “Thank you, thank you for that miss”,’ he added.

Sam conquered the jungle at the end of last year after choking down a pig’s vagina and a camel’s toe among other stomach churning items.

Sam Thompson, Zara McDermott and Pete Wicks

The presenter, who is in a relationship with fellow reality star Zara McDermott, told fans they had ‘made a young boy’s dream … come true and I will never ever forget that’ after securing the crown.

In February, Sam came under fire on social media after asking Dune star Timothee Chalamet what it was like filming romantic scenes with co-star and friend Zendaya.

After people slammed him for the awkward question, Sam responded: ‘You should have seen the bit where I asked Timothee if he wanted to play call of duty with me, you’d have loved it.’

Metro.co.uk has reached out to Nottingham Police for comment.

Sam and Pete return for three more dates of the Staying Relevant Tour in September in London.

'Barbie' concert tour scraps Pine Knob show, most of summer trek

Fans will have to 'dance the night' somewhere else..

camel tour 2023 cancelled

Barbie won't be heading to Pine Knob this summer after all.

The touring "Barbie The Movie: In Concert" event, which was set to play Pine Knob on Aug. 10, has been canceled, according to an announcement on the event's Ticketmaster page . No reason was given for the cancellation.

The local concert was part of a planned 37-city tour featuring live music from the Barbie Land Sinfonietta, an all-women and majority women-of-color orchestra, while the 2023 blockbuster was set to play on an LED screen set up above the stage.

As of Monday, all but three of the tour dates have been canceled, according to online listings for the individual concerts. Shows still remain in Greenwood Village, Colorado, (July 17); Holmdel, New Jersey, (Aug. 17) and at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, California (July 27).

The tour was announced in March and was set to kick off July 2 in Tampa.

Refunds for ticket buyers will be issued to the original method of payment and should appear within 14-21 days, according to a message on the event's Ticketmaster page.

"Barbie" was released in July 2023 and was the year's highest grossing movie, earning $636 million at the North American box office and $1.4 billion worldwide. It was nominated for eight Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and won Best Original Song for Billie Eilish's "What Was I Made For?"
