Hey, so very good and helpful service you guys got here, but, please, fix your filters as this particular one filter "close/near dates of departure" that is constantly on and active when you make new search is pretty annoying))... Thanks and Best Regards! You Are Doing a Great Job Keep Doing It And Right On!

“You lie and steal, why can I not make any changes or...”

You lie and steal, why can I not make any changes or cancellations? Your bot system goes on an endless loop to avoid addressing the issue and your "travel experts" can't even manage to do even one thing aside delay further. This whole experience has left me feeling like this company is a total scam. I'm having my bank cancel your charge and issue a fraud claim.

Top Ten Reviews Verdict

An average travel site, OneTravel doesn't bring more discounts than the bigger players in this area. We do like the hotel theme filter, though.

Good hotel search options

No cancellation fees

Prices are rarely the cheapest

Why you can trust Top Ten Reviews Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out more about how we test .

OneTravel lets you book flights, hotels, rental cars, cruises and vacation packages. You can also search for flights under different price caps based on your budget. This price cap search is a great feature for international flights, which typically cost over $1,000.

OneTravel has average prices compared to the best online travel sites , but it adds a per-person processing fee, which may tip the total price into a range that is more than what some travelers can afford. If your plans fall through, you may find a hefty cancellation fee on your bill, which is even higher for canceled international flights. However, OneTravel will waive these fees and others (when permitted by airlines or other suppliers) for active military members, senior citizens, disabled and bereaved travelers. If you're booking a vacation package for your family, we recommend you book with Expedia because it makes booking packages easier than other sites.

One of the features of OneTravel's hotel search is its theme filter. With it, you can search for hotels under a wide variety of themes, such as family, pet-friendly and romantic, golf or and spa vacations. Pictures and descriptions can be deceiving; OneTravel posts TripAdvisor user reviews so you can read a range of guest experiences and opinions.

If you plan to travel internationally but you're not sure what you'll need, the visa and passport assistance feature is a great tool. This handy feature lets you select your country and state of departure, plus your destination and reason for traveling, like business, pleasure, transit or journalism. Results tell you whether a visa or passport is required to enter your destination country and how to obtain these documents before you leave.

OneTravel has several ways you can reach its customer support department. The FAQs section is massive, so if you have a simple query, it's likely you'll find it there. This section covers flights, cars, hotels, billing and payment, and general questions, to name a few. You can't email questions to OneTravel, but it's one of the few online travel services with a live chat feature.

OneTravel offers some of the lowest base prices, but you want to be absolutely sure of your travel plans before booking to avoid the hefty cancellation and itinerary change fees. These types of fees are standard for any online travel site that collaborates with airlines and other travel service providers, but the costs add up quickly. This online travel agency offers plenty of promos and coupons to knock down the service fees and lower the prices even more. If you're looking to redeem travel points for your vacation, we recommend you book using CheapTickets because you can redeem hotel and airline points and also get points through CheapTickets' own point system.

Great Experience!!

Cheap O Air had the best fares and their web site was very easy to use.

Date of experience : August 14, 2014

Simply the best discount travel site.

So easy to use and gave me the best discount. Definitely cheapest deals I could find on the internet by far. You should definitely use it next time you're booking a flight.

Date of experience : August 13, 2014

cheapoair is okay

Cheap flights good as long as you dont miss your flight

Date of experience : August 12, 2014

I was very please and satisfied

My first time booking online by myself I would normally called them and have them doing it for mi but I went to do it my I wonder y wasn't I doin it for myself all along because al I did is put in the date and thats it every thing else is right there in front of me if it's a non stop flight r nt how long is the flight the time of departure n arrival so easy like 1, 2, 3 no reason to go no where else

Date of experience : August 10, 2014

Easy to book and then had to change airports. No problems doing it.

I had to go to a funeral in Florida and booked to fly into Orlando. Then I found out it was easier to fly into Daytona Beach. I was able to change my flights without much effort on my part. I was very happy with my experience.

Always good deals

Cheapoair seems to have some of the best deals out there— it's definitely my go-to website for traveling!

Date of experience : August 07, 2014

Easiest booking experience

Cheapoair was the easiest booking experience I've found. I found Cheapoair by mistake and glad I did. I use it everytime I book a flight.

Date of experience : August 06, 2014

Just couldn't be any easier!

Was looking at diffenent sites, everything came up exactly how I wanted it! Price, nonstop flight, times, everything was just perfect! Very impressed, and my "best deal" on pricing was truly effortless! Very happy with the whole process, and will recommend to all family and friends! Thank You, Margaret Grinley

I didn't think it was possible to book a flight in such a short amount of time under $300 but they certainly came through!! Thanks!

Cheapoair was very easy to navigate through and gave me the best rates without five million pop up windows for other sites offering other deals! I also booked my trip within 2 days of flying out and much to my surprise the trip was less than $300! I was convinced I would be paying at least $400-500!

Date of experience : August 05, 2014

Great first time experience.

My first flight to Miami went great. The airline had all of my correct info and even tho my flight was delayed, I recvd a call from the airline updating me the entire time. My hotel was really nice and in a convenient location as advertised, fair price as well!!!

Date of experience : August 04, 2014

EAsy, quick and efficient

I would use this service again.

The choices and the prices were great. Met my needs given my busy schedule.

I was very happy booking through CheapOair. The selection of flights along with the prices offered allowed me to choose the best flight for me without having to pay extra for my conveniences.

Date of experience : August 01, 2014

My flight was on point

I am really happy with the price both ways I really satisfied both ways

good service online and on the phone

I had an easy time ordering tickets and when i had to speak with a customer rep it was hassle free. I'd use them again and recommend them to anyone.

Cheap by name, but not by nature.

I needed a flight at the last minute and every other site was finding flight options at about $100 more than Cheapo. The whole process was smooth and user friendly. It's Cheapo air from now on for me.

Date of experience : July 30, 2014

Fast & Easy Airline Booking

I found the experience on the web site to be very easy and feel as if I got a very good fair. Definitely will use again.

Date of experience : July 29, 2014

Affordable price , excellent service

I was looking for a flight to Toronto I was going to attend a marriage but I couldn't find any ticket on the July first Week so I tried one travel I got it on Time . I think everyone should try one travel. I m very satisfied !!!

Knowledgable agents there to help

Not a seasoned international traveler I phoned a Cheapo Air agent for help planning my flight to Ireland. I'm a tough customer but my agent didn't get aggravated with me but rather worked hard and found a flight with layover times and price that satisfied me.

Date of experience : July 28, 2014

By far the easiest way to book our flight

Cheap o Air made the booking of the flight easy and simple. The best part was that we got to where we were headed with little time wasted. Prices didn't hurt my feelings either.

Date of experience : July 27, 2014

I did not have any trouble in my journey

I was impressed and stisfied

No idea - however, my personal rule of thumb would be that if I had to resort to asking a rag tag (that's you mfuwe!) bunch of strangers whether I could trust a company that I'd never heard of before, which is offering deals that are seemingly too good to be true, then it's probably worth paying that bit extra with someone else...

Just me though :)

Oi, Scots_Al! Rag tag, us? Durrr.

You may find that booking directly with the airline will be the way to go, but it depends on the airline , route flown and dates of travel.

I see nothing wrong with the company - they get the same rating as many others like Travelocity

The Most Trusted Travel-Review Sites

Hundreds of online platforms post traveler reviews, but only a handful police recommendations for fake or promotional content. Which ones should you rely on when planning a trip? Our expert weighs in.

Any number of concerns are on our radar as we plan our next trip, from serious issues like how destinations are working to mitigate tourists’ environmental impact to inconveniences like months-long passport wait times. In this column, our travel expert addresses your questions about how to navigate the world.

There are so many online review platforms out there—Google, Tripadvisor, Yelp. When I’m planning a trip and looking into hotels and activities, which one should I trust the most? —After Good Advice

Online, everyone has an opinion. Even seasoned travelers can find themselves easily led down the rabbit hole of online review platforms and come out overwhelmed.

A friend of mine was recently considering vacationing in Hawaii and interested in the Hana-Maui Resort. Five-star reviews on Tripadvisor tout the property as a 2022 Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice winner, with comments highlighting it as “Exceptional” and a “Bungalow in Paradise,” though others cautioned, “Not Quite as Expected” and “Don’t Stay Here.”

When she looked further into the critiques, she discovered that the negative reviews complained of the lack of air-conditioning and TVs in rooms (who goes to Maui to watch TV?) and of wind and rain during their stays—the latter something no hotel could remedy. Knowing I live part-time on Maui, she reached out to see if I had any first-hand intel. The handful of negative comments on varying review sites gave her pause.

I believe nothing compares to word-of-mouth recommendations, particularly from someone who knows you and your travel tastes. My friend relayed that she and her husband were planning to use points to stay at a trio of Hyatt properties on Maui—in addition to the Hana-Maui Resort, they’d booked the Andaz in Wailea, and Hyatt Regency near Lahaina, both tony, amenity-laden areas on the south and west coasts, respectively.

The town of Hana, on the eastern side of the island, is the exact opposite: remote, undeveloped, sleepy. I knew my friend and her husband preferred the ocean to hiking, and they loved restaurants and nightlife. While I thought the Hana-Maui Resort was heaven, I knew they’d be bored to death and said as much.

“We’re not perfect, but we are constantly working to stay one step ahead of the fraudsters,” says Brian Hoyt, a spokesperson at Tripadvisor.

Trust plays a huge role in our travel decisions. When a friend who shares your tastes posts rave reviews about a hotel or restaurant on their Facebook page, you’re more likely to check it out. When we don’t have personal recommendations to go off, we tend to turn to review sites to see what others thought of it.

Online reviews can be a great tool for anyone planning trips, as well as for businesses looking to drum up interest from prospective adventure seekers. But how do you know which reviews and which platforms to trust?

Someone uses a city review on their phone to determine the best restaurant and hotel

Where to Find Reliable Reviews

For starters: no one site can (or should) be considered the only option. Because users are providing the information, the sites can inadvertently post misinformation, says Nick Ewen, director of content at The Points Guy, a travel-resource site that reaches over seven million people each month. It’s best to use multiple sites, as casting a wide net allows for a wide variety of perspectives.

Based on my interviews with dozens of travelers and industry veterans, including agents, hotel owners, and tour operators, Google, Tripadvisor, Trustpilot, and Yelp have the most reliable user-generated content. These companies have policies in place to ensure the trustworthiness of the reviews that appear and allow users to dispute content or to click icons within the post to flag suspicions, such as a review that’s promotional or not based on a genuine experience.

Tripadvisor , the world’s largest travel-guidance platform with more than one billion total reviews, has an investigations team of experts specializing in network forensics and fraud detection to help spot suspicious reviews. Shady posts often include review boosting, where a business owner asks someone connected to their company to sing their praises; review vandalism, in which someone tries to slander a business with negative reviews; or review optimization, which occurs when companies are paid to falsify reviews on a business’s behalf.

“We’re not perfect, but we are constantly working to stay one step ahead of the fraudsters,” says Brian Hoyt, a spokesperson at Tripadvisor. Last year, 1.3 million reviews were identified as fake and removed from the platform, and 72 percent were caught before being posted, he says.

Yelp also maintains a team of moderators who keep a hawkish eye out for companies that might be engaging in compensated or incentivized review behavior, which is strictly prohibited. In 2022, Yelp closed more than 77,400 user accounts for violating such policies. Both Google and Trustpilot, too, use software to automatically screen for fake reviews or promotional content.

Tips for Navigating Travel-Review Platforms

Even when you feel solid about a site, it doesn’t mean you’re immune to the barrage of opinions, good and bad. Here’s how to filter what you’re finding.

1. Consider When the Content Was Posted

The more recent the review, the more relevant an experience might be, but older reviews can paint a picture of more consistent experiences had by travelers over time. If reviews suddenly go from positive to less than glowing, consider whether the hotel, restaurant, or tour operator might be under new ownership. If someone is complaining about limited things to do at a resort while visiting in the off-season, that won’t apply if you’re planning to visit during peak periods, says Ewen. And remember: post-pandemic, the service industry continues to lack sufficient personnel; as a result, you might see more negative reviews than positive ones on this front.

2. Read Beyond the Stars

Everyone has different travel preferences, so take time to read the actual review closely, whether it’s a five- or one-star rating, says Ewen. “Someone might give an all-inclusive resort a one-star review because they were traveling for their honeymoon and couldn’t stand all of the families,” he says. “That’s hardly a negative if you’re traveling with your kids.”

3. Look for Consistency

Gather insight across review platforms to look for trends. If a hotel boasts high marks on multiple sites, chances are the reviews are accurate and it’s great. If it has mixed ratings, however, you may want to reconsider. Similarly, when looking at tour operators that run trips in multiple destinations, make sure you’re seeing positive reviews in all of those places but specifically where you’re headed. If, for example, its experiences in California are five-star but those in Utah and Colorado have been rated as mediocre, you might want to do more research or even call the outfitter and enquire about the inconsistency.

4. Use Search Filters to Save Time

As noted, first make sure you’re sorting remarks by most recent. Then use any other filters to zero in on things like the time of year you’re visiting (Tripadvisor has this functionality), specific mentions of amenities (Google has this), or even specific keywords you want to search, such as surfing or hiking (both Tripadvisor and Google offer this), recommends Ewen. With restaurants and hotels, he typically starts a search with Google, as it provides both the location and star rating together.

5. Take Bad Reviews with a Grain of Salt

You can’t please everyone. When I looked for comments about Yellowstone National Park, one of America’s most visited destinations, on Google Reviews visitors lamented, “There was no service and no way to update my Instagram” and “They don’t even let you touch the geysers, and there’s only black and grizzly bears no panda.” Before you write off an experience because of some bad reviews, take the time to actually read the criticism and decide whether it’s warranted. If there’s one bad review but 20 great ones, likely someone had a bad day.

It’s also worth noting whether anyone from the company responded to a negative post. “A bad review is a great opportunity to showcase your true colors,” says Melanie Fisher, an Oregon-based travel agent who also rents a property on Airbnb. “As the business owner, how you respond is very important. If you come across as rude and condescending, you are just confirming the bad review was deserving. Instead, if you respond, explaining how you couldn’t meet the customer’s needs—unsafe, unrealistic, never agreed upon, natural disaster—and you did everything in your power to make it right, others will understand more about you and your business—and in most cases respect the business more.”

Go Beyond the Reviews for Information

Tripadvisor’s forums and journalist-reported travel stories , on topics like family-friendly Greek islands and epic road trips in Ireland, can offer helpful vacation tips and trip inspiration. And take a gander at traveler- or diner-submitted photos. Yelp’s Ask the Community feature allows users to post queries for Yelpers to weigh in on, like how much time you should budget for a visit to New York City’s Museum of Natural History (at minimum four hours).

When looking for activities, Ewen’s first stop is often the website of the local tourism board. “While these marketing organizations have a vested interest in promoting the destination, they also have no incentive to send you on a bad tour, because that’s a loss for the destination itself,” he says. “Virtually every tour or activity I have booked in this way has been positive.”

Magazines, both print and digital (like Outside ), are another great source to legitimize any opinions you read on user-generated review sites. Additionally, the social-media feed of a company can provide insight. Have travelers left positive comments on a hotel or tour operator’s Instagram or Facebook feed? Has that company made an effort to interact with customers? Finally, if you’re mid-trip and still looking for recommendations, chat up the locals. I’ve discovered some of my most memorable meals and hikes based on tips from a bartender.

What is Kayak? How does it work?

Is kayak reliable, ways to get a good deal on kayak, the bottom line.

When it comes to booking travel, it sometimes feels like there are an unlimited number of online travel agencies to choose from — and Kayak is one of them. But is Kayak legit? Can it actually help you get a good deal when booking travel? We did some digging to find out.

Kayak bills itself as the world’s leading travel search engine. It’s not a booking site. Instead, think of it as an aggregator: Kayak scans hundreds of third-party travel and brand websites and shows you the best prices. That means you’ll likely find a wider range of pricing for a single room or rental car than you would on direct booking sites.

Kayak shows you a list of pricing and booking options for every flight, rental car or hotel from dozens of individual travel operator websites, including other popular booking platforms like Priceline and Booking.com (Kayak is owned by the same company as those two).

To find the best travel deal, select what type of travel you want to book and insert your dates and destination. You can search for:

Rental cars.

Vacation rentals and more.

Then, Kayak shows available options from multiple companies and booking platforms.

Take flights, for example. When you search and see an option that suits you, click on the listing for more details and information on where you’ll be booking, then click “View deal” and Kayak will transfer you to the booking website, whether that’s an airline website or a different OTA like Expedia.

If there’s a drop-down menu, that means there are various booking and pricing options for your selected itinerary and you can click on the arrow to check prices across multiple platforms.

Booking a hotel works about the same way. Perform your search, browse the list of available options, then click on the property listing to see more details and prices across multiple platforms. Click “View deal” to be taken directly to the booking page on the site with the best price. There, you may be shown similar properties for even more booking options.

is one travel trustworthy

Rental cars work similarly, though the car rental company will be displayed on the search page in addition to details about the cars available.

Kayak is just as reliable as other travel search engines, so there’s no need to wonder, "can I trust Kayak?" In reality, it can often be more reliable than third-party booking sites since its users are driven to individual travel providers for booking. This act of booking directly often means you’ll have access to better customer service in case your plans change, you have to adjust your travel schedule or you want to update a booking. Since Kayak isn’t a booking platform, their customer service can’t help with those issues.

Do be aware that price fluctuations are a possibility. Occasionally, you may conduct a search that reveals one price, then, when you select “View deal” and are taken to the booking page of another website, you could see a price change alert and a slightly different deal than was just listed on Kayak.

Likewise, it’s not a bad idea if you book a hotel using one of the third-party sites listed to call and confirm your reservation as sometimes third-party bookings can get lost in the shuffle. And keep in mind that if you’re hoping to earn points for your stay, the easiest way to do so is to book directly with the provider.

There are, of course, tips and tricks for getting even better deals on travel when using Kayak.

Use search filters and price calendars

For hotels and other stays, you can select filters like:

Hotel chain.

Neighborhood.

Review scores.

Specific amenities like free parking and breakfast.

Star rating and more.

There’s also a color-coded calendar that highlights what days might be cheaper for travel, which could help you locate a better deal if your plans are flexible. Search flexibility based on price isn’t as robust as on search sites like Google Flights, which offers detailed graphs, charts and calendars, but there are still options.

Consider a Hacker Fare

It sounds like cheating, but these fares are legit. They usually occur when Kayak finds a great deal on a round-trip flight by utilizing multiple airlines. For example, the cheapest round-trip flight Kayak found from Miami to Boston was a departing flight on American Airlines and a return flight on JetBlue Airways booked through Expedia.

This search concept isn’t original to Kayak — you can perform similar searches on Google Flights — but it’s a handy one to consider if you’re looking for the absolute best deal on air travel.

Create an account to save cash

At least for hotel bookings, travelers with a Kayak Explorer Rewards account can sometimes get access to exclusive deals. It doesn’t cost anything to sign up for this loyalty program, so anyone can claim these deals, plus, those with an account can also track price fluctuations, get notified when prices drop and organize travel plans.

Set a price alert

Most travel search engines offer the option to set a price alert and Kayak is no exception. So if you’re not quite ready to book, set up an alert for your preferred travel days and destinations, and Kayak will notify you when prices go up or down to help you score the best deal. The feature is available for flights and hotels.

» Learn more: The best travel credit cards right now

Is Kayak legit? Absolutely. Is Kayak a good deal? It can be. While it isn’t a booking platform, it can help you find better prices for flights, hotels, rental cars and more by scanning actual booking sites across the web. Just make sure to take note of what platform or travel site you actually book with in case you have to make changes to your itinerary.

Using the site’s many search and alert tools can be a smart money move for finding a good travel deal.

Among the myriad of travel perks that can help you save money or enjoy complimentary upgrades, loyalty program membership stands out as a significant one. The second annual Barclays US Consumer Bank’s Travel Rewards and Loyalty Reports delve deep into the loyalty programs and benefits that are most frequently used by travelers, shedding light on their importance in the travel landscape.

Loyalty Program Membership is Important

Of the 1,000 US travelers surveyed by Wakefield Research, 77% report currently belonging to a travel loyalty program of some kind. These respondents report flying by air at least once in the last 12 months and intend to travel again during the next 12 months. Additionally, 89% of respondents indicate being a loyalty member at some point.

The program types include:

  • Car rentals
  • Cruise lines
  • Online booking sites

Roughly 51% join to earn airline rewards, 43% for hotel rewards, and 30% for booking sites. Cruises and car rentals are the smallest programs as they tend to have fewer travel opportunities.

Of the travelers currently enrolled in loyalty programs, 76% cannot imagine taking the caliber of trips they currently do without the benefits. Not having the rewards can mean having to switch travel providers, opt for more affordable accommodations, reduce the trip length, or book a less convenient travel method.

Millennials are most likely to enroll in loyalty programs with an 83% enrollment rate versus a 75% average for Gen X, Gen Z, and Baby Boomers. Further, Millennials are more likely to travel this year.

As travel loyalty programs are so prolific and offer plenty of value for most members, 77% of respondents anticipate traveling more in 2024 than in 2023. Specifically, 79% are leisure trips and 21% are business-related.

With that in mind, below are the most wanted benefits (ranked by highest demand):

  • Ability to earn and redeem rewards (70%)
  • Lower costs, reduced fees, and low rate guarantees (58%)
  • Elite status or perks, free checked bags, priority boarding, etc. (55%)
  • Improved travel experience through upgrades, lounge access (51%)
  • Access to experiences like concerts and events (29%)

Travel points are the most valuable benefit of being a loyalty program member or by using a particular credit card rewards program. While points have multiple redemption options, respondents plan on using 65% for flights and 54% for hotels.

Most Valuable Travel Points

Unsurprisingly, airline miles are deemed the most valuable type of travel point. Eighty-nine percent of travelers report that points are essential to their preferred travel style.

Below is the extent to which travel rewards support award travel:

  • Airline miles (69%)
  • Hotel points (60%)
  • Car rentals (37%)
  • Cruise lines (26%)

Airline and hotel points typically provide the most value. They can also be the easiest to earn or redeem as there are numerous travel options for domestic and international trips.

The majority of respondents (72%) will be using their travel rewards for travel within the United States this year, although international travel is increasing. Europe (29%), the Caribbean (23%), and Canada or Mexico (22%) or the most popular foreign destinations.

Most Valuable Travel Deals

Travel points are the most valuable perk, but several non-point travel rewards are also worth the membership.

Here are the three most popular discounts and upgrades available to elite members and travel credit card customers:

  • Hotel deals (71%)
  • Flight upgrades (70%)
  • Priority boarding (60%)

Additionally, frequent travelers who take at least five or more flights per year perceive gaining the most value from travel rewards.

Business Travel is the Most Rewarding

These various perks make it possible for the majority of survey-takers to get more value from their rewards programs than they put into them. The success rates vary by travel type and generation:

  • 84% of business travelers (versus 67% of leisure travelers)
  • 79% of Millennials
  • 72% of travel credit cardholders

While business travel is far less common than leisure travel, loyalty membership and travel points are more rewarding for those who can book work trips.

Final Thoughts

Every travel loyalty program has different perks, point redemption options, and destination choices. Finding the right program makes it substantially easier to travel more often and with a better experience. To find out more, see the full survey results .

I went on one date with a man, and then we decided to travel together indefinitely. It's not as romantic as it seems.

  • After traveling full-time, I joined a dating app and went on a date; we fell for each other.
  • Since we have similar values, we decided to travel together indefinitely.
  • It's been difficult at times, and our future is uncertain, but it's the perfect life for us.

Insider Today

Last year, I finally fulfilled my dream of traveling full-time when I got a job aboard a cruise ship. I was loving every moment of my nomadic life. I was too busy enjoying myself to worry about a relationship.

But in my second year of the job and third year of being single, I joined the Nomad Soulmates dating app . I wasn't necessarily looking for my soulmate because travel was my priority for most of my life. But at 32, I knew I had to make a proactive choice to prioritize relationships and dating.

In April of 2023, I disembarked the ship in Lisbon and tried out the app. However, I was skeptical it would lead anywhere because I only had two months off the ship before I had to head to Norway to join my next contract. Plus, I had already scheduled my travel plans for the next two months.

But then I matched with someone that made me rethink everything.

We had an instant connection

I matched with a man who was in Lisbon for the month. He asked me out for Greek food, and I figured it was worth a try. Once again, I didn't imagine it would go anywhere because I only planned to stay for a week before heading to Porto for the weekend and then off to Spain for the next leg of my trip .

Related stories

But our date ended up being so much fun that I was interested in seeing where this could go. He was silly, and that was refreshing. We shared many of the same values and loved traveling, so the conversation never lagged.

I surprised myself when I invited him to stay with me for a few nights in Porto. During our visit to Porto, I canceled my trip to Spain and accepted his invitation to return to Lisbon with him, beginning our partnership.

We decided to keep traveling together

I had to choose between my travel plans and my partner . Having been a solo traveler, giving up my travel plans for something that may or may not work out was not a decision I took lightly.

But I wanted to take a chance on this as we found ourselves on the same page about everything — especially what we were looking for in a long-term relationship and what we wanted in the future. I never saw myself returning to the US; I wanted to return to Italy or continue traveling full-time with my future partner and kids. He also had no plans on returning to his home country of Germany and, having been traveling full-time since 2018, was uninterested in stopping. He also wants children and plans to travel with them full-time.

I saw that we were on the same page regarding how we wanted to incorporate parenting, traveling, and our careers, so we decided to continue traveling together — which was a decision we made exceptionally quickly.

I was fearful at the beginning of our relationship because I heard horror stories from friends about traveling with partners they just met. Luckily, being seasoned travelers , we face inconveniences quite similarly and calmly. Within the last year, we have dealt with being separated for months at a time and spending every second together for months at a time. We have also experienced missed flights, scooter accidents, cockroach infestations, and a lack of necessities such as hot water. It's not all romance and dreamy vacations.

Like so many other relationships I've had, I thought each new inconvenience would fracture our relationship, causing us to decide that maybe this wasn't the right partnership for us. But it all had the opposite effect, building the foundation of our relationship as we moved into the second year of traveling full-time together.

Bound by wanderlust , we aren't sure what our futures hold, but we will sculpt it with our shared dreams.

12 Best Beach Towns on the East Coast

Travel to the best beach towns on the East Coast for fresh seafood, buzzy boardwalks, and leisurely days under the sun.

is one travel trustworthy

William Reagan/Getty Images

From the rocky shoreline of New England down to the flat beaches of the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida, the Eastern Seaboard is a region that shines its brightest in the warmer months. As temperatures increase, many travelers make the journey to their favorite East Coast beach towns to soak up the restorative, nostalgic nature that comes with salt water, sand, and good old-fashioned summer fun.

“East Coast beach towns have a certain distinct charm that you have to experience yourself to fully embrace,” says Katie Cosgrove, the director of sales and marketing at Ashore Resort & Beach Club in Ocean City, Maryland. “These towns tend to be more laid back, with an appeal for every type of traveler — whether it's families, beach week groups looking for nightlife, couples looking for a getaway, and everyone in between.” Plus, she adds, most of these destinations are relatively close to larger cities — like Savannah, Richmond, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, and New York City — which “makes for a quick and easy getaway for urban dwellers.”

With summer right around the corner, we had a few local experts, including Cosgrove, share their picks for the best beach towns on the East Coast. See which ones made the cut below.

Kennebunkport, Maine

DenisTangneyJr/Getty Images

According to Natalie Kurtzman , a travel advisor at Fora , you’ll want to head to Maine for “wide sandy beaches, amazing food (homemade blueberry pie and fresh lobster are a New England rite of passage), and charming towns.” While there are several beach towns to choose from, Kennebunkport is her top pick. She recommends starting your vacation by checking into Hidden Pond , where you can stay in cottages and bungalows, and then spending a day at Goose Rocks Beach. “A visit to the area requires a stop at Mabel’s Lobster Claw for — you guessed it — lobster and their award-winning blueberry pie,” she adds.

Newport, Rhode Island

shunyufan/Getty Images

“Newport is filled with amazing history and incredible food,” says Caroline Broome, founder and designer of Tillie , a Palm Beach-based fashion brand. While some beach towns veer toward cute and kitschy, Newport is all about the glamor; if you’ve watched The Gilded Age on HBO, you may remember the mansions, the cocktail parties, and all of the social drama between Manhattan’s elite as they enjoyed summers in Newport. Modern-day Newport still holds onto that level of glitz, with several luxury hotels welcoming travelers to the seaside destination. Broome recommends staying at the historic Castle Hill Inn , but there’s also The Chanler at Cliff Walk , The Brenton Hotel , and The Vanderbilt, Auberge Resorts Collection . During your stay, be sure to check off all of the classic Newport activities: Go sailing, explore the 3.5-mile scenic Cliff Walk , and visit the International Tennis Hall of Fame .

Montauk, New York

MikeRega/Getty Images

As New Yorkers know, the train ride out to the very end of Long Island can be stressful (particularly if you’re joining the throngs of people leaving Manhattan on a Friday). Montauk, however, is worth the four-hour ride and ensuing hassle — and there are even pockets of quiet , if you know where to look. It’s a bit more rugged than some of the other towns in the Hamptons, and I find that to be a significant part of its appeal. There’s a rustic-meets-luxury charm to the town, which you’ll experience at Crow's Nest , a bohemian hotel with both rooms and cottages. Or, if you want to take it up a notch, spend a long weekend at Gurney’s Montauk Resort & Seawater Spa , where 158 rooms and suites overlook the ocean. If it’s your first time out East, I also recommend visiting the Montauk Point Lighthouse, indulging in a lobster roll at Duryea's , and getting some dinner essentials at Gosman’s Fish Market .

Chatham, Massachusetts

benedek/Getty Images

“Chatham feels so nostalgic, with the evening bandstand concerts and the charm of Old Cape Cod,” says Kurtzman. “I spent time in Chatham as a child and have some of the fondest memories at Oyster Pond Beach and strolling Main Street.” If you’re traveling with a family or a larger group, you may want to opt for a quintessential Cape Cod beach cottage for your stay. But for those hoping for a more romantic or luxurious stay, she recommends Chatham Bars Inn : “The inn has one of the best spas in New England if you’re looking to sneak away for some quiet time. Plus, you can walk into town, which is such a highlight.” Between beach trips, bike rides, and popping into the t-shirt stores, galleries, and boutiques on Main Street, check out two of Kurtzman’s can’t-miss Chatham staples: local watering hole The Chatham Squire and Chatham Candy Manor .

Nantucket, Massachusetts

Tetra Images/Getty Images

Nantucket has its own brand of island magic — one created by foggy weather, blooming hydrangeas, cobblestone streets, lobster rolls, and stunning oceanside homes. “There is so much to love [on the island], but a few of my favorites include dining at Cru , Lola 41 , and The Nautilus . For a special meal with gorgeous sunset views, go to Galley Beach . A visit to Cisco Brewers is a must — and this is well paired with grabbing picnic items for the beach at Bartlett’s Farm ,” says Kurtzman. The beach scene is also notable (her favorites are Surfside Beach and Jetties Beach), and there are several top-tier hotels to book for an extra-luxe getaway.  “To stay, I love the White Elephant for its location, great accommodations (especially great for families), and amazing service. I also love The Nantucket Hotel for the location and amazing kids programs,” she says.

Ocean City, Maryland

aimintang/Getty Images

“Ocean City, Maryland is by far my favorite East Coast beach town. I grew up going to Ocean City with my family, and I couldn't be happier to now call this beach retreat home,” says Cosgrove. “I love that you can get a little bit of everything… easy beach access, family activities, great seafood, and vibrant nightlife.” Some beach towns may be sleepy, but Ocean City is the opposite; there are amusement parks ( Trimper Rides and Jolly Roger Amusement Park ), mini golf courses, playgrounds, piers, and plenty of dining options to keep you full and energized. “Aside from our new signature restaurant [at Ashore Resort & Beach Club], Tide Room , I'd recommend visitors also check out The Hobbit and Liquid Assets , which has a great wine selection. Plus the downtown boardwalk and Thrasher's famous french fries are not to be missed,” she says.

Duck, North Carolina

For families who “love a mix of adventure and relaxation,” Cosgrove recommends Duck, a beach town in the Outer Banks. With one of the best beaches in North Carolina , this is the type of town where you can really kick back and take it easy. If you prefer to spend your vacation days on the move, take a spin around the beach town on a bike (you can rent one from Duck Cycle ), head out on the water with Nor’ Banks Sailing & Watersports , or get your steps in while exploring the Duck Town Park and Boardwalk . And if you end up craving something sweet? Duck delivers. “One of my absolute favorite places to go is Duck Donuts ,” says Cosgrove, “They make incredible hot donuts made to order.”

Sullivan’s Island, South Carolina

Ray Tan/Getty Images

Broome calls Sullivan’s Island “one of the most lovable, laid-back beach towns in the South,” and it’s not hard to see why. Just a short drive from downtown Charleston, the 2.5-mile-long island is a local favorite, thanks to its proximity, easy beach access, and number of incredible restaurants — including The Obstinate Daughter , Sullivan’s Fish Camp , and Poe’s Tavern . “The homes here are swoon-worthy, and the beach is extra wide, making for incredible views and endless beach walks,” she adds. Pro tip: Rent a bike from Sealand Adventure Sports to explore both Sullivan’s Island and neighboring Isle of Palms.

Hilton Head Island, South Carolina

If you’ve traveled to Hilton Head Island even just once, you know it’s the kind of destination that feels like home the moment you arrive; it’s just that special. “Travelers will love Hilton Head's great long stretches of beaches and historic touches — it's also a really great beach town for those who love walking and biking,” says Cosgrove. An easy weekend trip from Savannah , this part of the Lowcountry boasts more than 12 miles of sandy beaches, 30 golf courses, and endless ways to spend a long, leisurely day. Watch the boats arrive at Shelter Cove Harbour & Marina , learn about the island’s history from a Gullah Heritage Trail Tours guide, search out dolphins with Dolphin Discoveries Nature Tours , or pick up fresh seafood at Hilton Head Farmers Market .

St. Simons Island, Georgia

DorothyBlahnik/Getty Images

Broome, who got married on nearby Sea Island , names St. Simons Island one of the best East Coast beach towns — a title given due to its perennial appeal. “[I] love that this destination is a wonderful place to visit year-round. There is always something festive going on with activities for the whole family,” she says. In the summer, East Beach beckons; in the off-season, visitors can still enjoy the scenery on a bike ride along the St. Simons Island Trail System, pop by the St. Simons Light House Museum , or fill up on the famous pancakes at Palmer’s Village Cafe . During the holidays, a visit to The Cloister is paramount (although you’ll need to be a guest — or have a dining reservation — to get on Sea Island).

Tybee Island, Georgia

When the summer heat descends upon Savannah, locals flock to Tybee Island, where the wide beaches offer a reprieve from the humidity. It’s an extremely family-friendly destination that offers something for everyone. For the history buffs, there’s Georgia’s oldest and tallest lighthouse; the adventure seekers can paddle out on the open water with Sea Kayak Georgia ; and nature lovers will appreciate the unparalleled access to wildlife with Captain Derek's Dolphin Adventures . Come mealtime, there’s no need to get dressed up. In true beach town form, Tybee Island is extremely casual — whether you’re dining at Breakfast Club (my personal favorite), The Crab Shack , or Salt Island Fish and Beer .

Palm Beach, Florida

Sean Pavone/Getty Images

East Coast beach towns come in all shapes and sizes, and Palm Beach, Florida is certainly one of the most glittery — and photogenic.  “Filled with endless style and abundant sunshine, Palm Beach is an oasis that feels a bit like stepping into a postcard,” says Broome. “With breezy palm trees, blooming flowers, and beautiful colors around every corner, the inspiration is endless.” The 18-mile-long barrier island is known for its high-end shopping along Worth Avenue, historic landmarks (the Flagler Museum ), and an impressive roster of hotels ; both The Breakers and The Brazilian Court Hotel are centrally located in town. Following a pool day or a ride on a beach cruiser, stop by Buccan Sandwich Shop for a quick lunch, followed by drinks at HMF or Florie’s at the Four Seasons Resort Palm Beach .

Budget airlines are dropping notorious fees. What changed?

You’ll still need to pay for your pretzels, though.

is one travel trustworthy

Budget airlines have become infamous for setting low fares and charging passengers for everything from picking a seat to ordering a soft drink.

But two leaders of that model, Frontier and Spirit , have launched a different tactic: eliminating flight-change and cancellation fees for some or all customers. The change of heart is all rooted in business, industry experts say.

Both Spirit and Frontier are hurting financially and looking to better compete with major airlines, which have started offering their own stripped-down fares. Even as the budget airlines’ costs have increased, they are trying to win customers in non-leisure markets where bigger rivals are already established.

That means they can’t rely on their old model, said Mike Boyd, president of aviation consulting firm Boyd Group International, who called the airlines’ previous flight-change fees “usurious.” “They have to now provide something better,” Boyd said.

Passengers on Spirit will no longer have to pay a fee to change or cancel a flight; those charges previously ranged from $69 to $119, depending on when the change was made. There was no fee for flights changed or canceled 60 or more days in advance.

Frontier now is offering different fare categories with perks built in at higher price points, and only the barest-bones price will come with a change or cancellation fee. For people who purchase that basic fare, flight changes seven to 59 days in advance will carry a fee of $49, while that jumps to $99 within six days of a flight. Cancellation fees for the basic fare are $99.

Major airlines got rid of change fees during the early days of the pandemic, though their “basic economy” fares generally do not allow changes now. The budget airlines’ hope is to appeal to travelers who will pay more — not the “premium” customers who help keep larger airlines afloat, but the “less price-sensitive and more restriction-sensitive customers,” said Robert W. Mann, an airline industry analyst and consultant.

The changes at the two airlines went into effect Friday. Frontier included its news as part of a broader refresh it’s calling “The New Frontier,” which also includes the return of phone-based customer service, a year and a half after ending it ; extensions for flight credits; and a promise of free miles if someone finds a lower price on their flight elsewhere.

“Today marks the beginning of a new era for Frontier — one with transparency in our prices, no change fees and the lowest total price,” Frontier CEO Barry Biffle said in a news release. “This is ‘The New Frontier’ and we are committed to offering more than the lowest fares — we deliver the best price for all the options you want and the customer support you need, when you need it.”

Spirit’s rollout of its new policy came with less pomp. The airline is promoting the end of the fees all over its website but did not make a formal announcement. When asked about the change, the carrier said in a statement that it has “many other enhancements in the works.”

“Spirit has been evaluating changes to our product and strategy that will help us better compete, elevate the guest experience and return to profitability,” the statement said.

The airlines will continue to charge for things like snacks and drinks that are free on larger rivals. Frontier is including many extra fees in its new bundles, though passengers who buy the cheapest fare would still need to pay extra for a carry-on or seat selection. Spirit will still charge for carry-on bags and picking a seat.

The changes come as the Biden administration has cracked down on what it calls “junk fees” charged by businesses, including airlines. A new Department of Transportation rule that was recently announced will force carriers to disclose certain fees up front, including those for changes and cancellations. Airlines are challenging that rule in court.

Boyd, the aviation consultant, wrote in a blog post this week that the recent changes at Frontier and Spirit were unrelated to such regulations.

Some industry watchers have questioned whether the changes will provide the business boost the airlines need. But they lauded the moves as good for customers.

“It’s exciting to see ultra low cost carriers try to create products that consumers may actually want to purchase,” Ben Schlappig, founder of the travel site One Mile at a Time , wrote in a post, “rather than just being the airlines that people reluctantly book when everything else is too expensive.”

The 5 best nyc dinner cruises for food & views.

These dinner cruises provide some of the best views of Manhattan.

The Best NYC Dinner Cruises

Friends enjoying a La Barca Cantina dinner cruise.

Courtesy of La Barca Cantina

When you're strolling the streets of Manhattan, it can be difficult to grasp the magnitude of the city, with its skyscrapers and densely packed landmarks. The solution? A boat ride. A breezy sail in New York Harbor can feature everything from an elegant dinner to a live jazz band to tacos and tequila. Read on to discover the top-rated New York City dinner cruise options as determined by travel expert opinion and recent reviews.

City Cruises New York Bateaux Premier Dinner Cruise

Price: From $144 Duration: 3 hours Standout perk: This all-glass boat delivers panoramic skyline views.

Climbing aboard the Bateaux feels like stepping into a greenhouse, with its glass-enclosed structure and water views in every direction. There are no bad seats on this boat, but as an upgrade you can reserve a window table for the best views of the Hudson River, the East River and the New York Harbor. This cruise is a match for anyone seeking elegance: The tables are covered in crisp white cloths, wine and cocktails are served in sparkling glasses, and a three-course a la carte dinner is served at a relaxed pace (no buffet here).

The Bateaux cruise is an experience to get dressed up for, where the dress code is semi-formal and dinner is accompanied by live music. The sunset can provide the perfect backdrop for pictures, and don't forget to snap a shot of the Statue of Liberty . Children younger than 6 are not permitted on this cruise, so expect a polished, for-adults atmosphere complete with creative cocktails and dancing under the stars. The Bateaux has rightfully earned a reputation for its fresh food; this three-course, plated menu includes several tempting a la carte options from a ravioli starter with crispy pancetta to osso bucco with cauliflower polenta.

City Cruises New York Signature Dinner Cruise

Price: From $109 Duration: 2.5 hours Standout perk: A live DJ gives this dinner cruise an extra dose of atmosphere.

Looking for a casual night of dining and dancing with the addition of a skyline backdrop? This dinner cruise offers just that. Set sail from Chelsea Piers in a climate-controlled boat along the Hudson and East rivers, admiring New York City landmarks like the Empire State Building . For dinner, indulge in a chef-prepared buffet with a wide range of options from Greek salad to oven-roasted salmon with miso to Caribbean jerk braised pork. If you're bringing a sweet tooth on board, be sure to check out the ample dessert station.

After snapping some pictures on the open-air deck, return to the cabin for cocktails from the cash bar, interactive games and upbeat music from the onboard DJ.

Those traveling with young kids will be pleased to know that infants younger than 3 cruise free – so feel free to bring your little ones along to enjoy the experience with you.

La Barca Cantina

La Barca Cantina dinner cruise with lights on boat at night.

Price: Varies Duration: 2 hours Standout perk: You'll find an extensive tequila and mezcal list on board to accompany the Mexican fare.

One criticism of New York dinner cruises is that they don't offer good value for money, but the "taco boat" challenges that critique with ceviche, tacos, churros, cocktails and skyline views for an affordable price. Climb aboard a yacht at Pier 81 to experience a youthful, modern interpretation of a dinner cruise – think: low lighting, couches for lounging and three bars, complete with Latin pop, salsa and dance music playing in the background. Raise a glass while the yacht sails south on the Hudson River to check out world-famous Manhattan skyline views.

La Barca Cantina also offers a bottomless brunch cruise with a DJ, as well as special events.

Classic Harbor Line NYC Evening Jazz Cruise

Live jazz trio performing for the Classic Harbor Line NYC Evening Jazz Cruise on the Manhattan II yacht in the summer.

Courtesy of Classic Harbor Line

Price: From $108 Duration: 1.5 hours Standout perk: A jazz trio typically featuring a sax, keyboard and drums plays live on board.

Listen to jazz standards aboard a 1920s-style yacht with this fun sightseeing cruise departing from Pier 62 in Chelsea Piers. Choose between kicking back in the climate-controlled cabin or on the open-air deck throughout this evening cruise, which includes views of Manhattan landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Live music is played outside on the deck or inside the salon, depending on the season (and the boat, Manhattan or Manhattan II).

While this cruise doesn't offer dinner, one complimentary alcoholic beverage is included, and a cash bar offers additional drinks and snacks. Listen to music by Duke Ellington, George Gershwin and more as you sail past the twinkling Manhattan skyline. Those traveling in a group should keep in mind: Tickets are slightly discounted for groups of 4 to 16.

Circle Line New York City Harbor Lights Cruise

Circle Line's Harbor Lights cruise at night with New York City buildings in the background.

Courtesy of Circle Line

Price: From $54 Duration: 2 hours Standout perk: This no-fuss, excellent-value cruise option has drinks and snacks available for purchase on board.

When you're craving panoramic views rather than a three-course meal, choose the Circle Line's Harbor Lights cruise departing from Pier 83. This sightseeing sailing delivers an up-close experience of the Manhattan skyline lights coming to life, while cruising past landmarks including the Brooklyn Bridge and the Chrysler Building . A live guide provides narration and historical context for what you're seeing. As the sun sets behind New Jersey, watch the glow of the sinking sun reflect in the windows of skyscrapers.

Food from the onboard cafe – like salads, sandwiches and snacks – as well as beer, wine and cocktails at the bar are available for purchase. This is an ideal situation for groups with varying levels of hunger and thirst. Sit alfresco in the breeze or indoors in the climate-controlled cabin – it's up to you.

Non-English-speaking guests can download the Circle Line app for narration available in several languages; just be sure to bring your own headset.

Wonderful service

I had been trying for weeks to get a round trip flight online to go to Florida to see my grandkids. Something told me one day to try again and there it was very simple easy and I got my confirmation number and ticket confirmation number right there in a text within maybe 30minutes or less. I would recommend this company to anyone.

I have been left with 5 emails from One travel stating I have an outstanding balance, each quoting different amounts. As far as I'm concerned, I paid for my flight. What is going on? I also can't get in touch with anyone, their customer service is poor I might add. 26.05.24

CHARGED $64 EXTRA SO I WOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR MY SEAT BUT DID NOT DELIVER PROMISE

I was never clear as to what the extra $64 dollars I paid for were intended for. I thought it meant I would not have to pay for the seats on ea. flight although I ended up paying for them. In any case, through your "expert" I was able to change the flight and that amount together with the rest of the price was restituted to me. All in all I am satisfied with your service. Thank you

Date of experience : 03 May 2024

You booked this online and when you selected the seat it shows the cost of it you choose a "preferred seat" which has a fee. However you cancelled this so no further action is needed.

Simple and User friendly

It was simple also I had tried others but for a person who is not so acquainted with booking online this was the easiest and very simple. Guidelines were easy to follow.

separating family due flight change. Horrible customer service and did not

The airline changed my seat on 4 segments due to a change of schedule and they failed to reinstate my 15 year old son's seat on all 4 segments. from doh to ist, ist to dfw, dfw to ist and ist to doh. they are trying to escape responsibilites by saying I did not book seats for my son. this is a very expensive trip with 6 of us traveling, why would I not assign seat for my youngest child on all 4 segments. I have another flight where my other son would meet us in istanbul and they did the same to him. Although we paid extra for these seats, the airline and one travel will not take responsibilities and they are only making excuses. so what's the solution, my 15 year old still has no seats!

Date of experience : 06 May 2024

We have reviewed the reservation and you did speak with an agent who went over the seat assignments and Mohammad has seats within the group we also only see 4 people in this reservation and not 6 so if you have another booking number please give that to the agents when you call so they can view that booking.

Date of experience : 29 April 2024

Thank you for your feedback. As an agency we must abide by the rules set by the airline. We regret any inconvenience.

Memorial Day weekend travel: The busiest days to fly and drive

AAA data predicts 3.51 million people will take to the skies for the holiday.

ABCNews logo

A record-breaking number of travelers are expected to hit the road and take to the skies this Memorial Day weekend.

Whether you're headed to the beach or to check out a new city, here's what you need to know:

The skies: The busiest days to fly

AAA data predicts 3.51 million people will travel by plane over the holiday weekend. This is a 4.8% jump from last year and marks the busiest Memorial Day weekend at U.S. airports since 2005.

United Airlines forecasts 2024 will be its busiest Memorial Day weekend ever, with over 3 million passengers expected to fly between Thursday, May 23, and Tuesday, May 28. United said May 23 will be its most crowded day, with nearly 520,000 passengers.

Delta expects nearly 3 million customers to fly during the Memorial Day period, from May 23 to May 27. The airline said this is a 5% increase from last year.

The busiest days to fly will be May 23, Friday, May 24, and Memorial Day itself, Monday, May 27, according to Hopper data.

The most packed airports are expected to be Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, Denver International Airport, Chicago O'Hare International Airport and Los Angeles International Airport, Hopper said.

According to AAA, the top domestic destinations are: Orlando, Florida; Seattle; New York City; Las Vegas; Los Angeles; Denver; Anchorage, Alaska; Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Miami; and Boston.

The roads: The best times to drive to avoid traffic

A record high of 38.4 million people are expected to travel by car over Memorial Day weekend, according to AAA. This is a 4% increase from last year.

Drivers heading out the door on May 23 or May 24 should leave before 11 a.m. or wait until the evening to avoid the worst traffic, according to transportation analytics company INRIX.

When you're driving home from vacation on May 26 or May 27, the worst time to be on the road is from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., INRIX said.

The cities with the highest rental car demands are Orlando, Denver, Atlanta, Boston and Las Vegas, according to Hertz.
