Great tour indeed. Looked online to check the prices and Zadar Day Trips had a great deal for me because of that entrance ticket which were pretty expensive if I decided to buy it myself. The nature and the memories from the tour are just amazing. Looking forward next time I will definitely visit it again.

Fortunatelly, Plitvice were amazing, we saw waterfalls from the boat tour, we took some great photos to last as a long memory. Only bad thing we didn’t stay longer as there is definitelly something to see. Shame we dont have such park in Poland haha.

Best, Tommy

Testimonials

My boyfriend and I took a private tour to Plitvice Lakes National Park this March and it was the highlight of our trip to Croatia. Our guide, Silvio, was very informative and super friendly. He picked us up from our hostel in the morning and then we were off to Plitvice. The drive was over two hours long and Silvio was great at explaining the history of Croatia with us. He told us a lot of really interested facts.

Once we arrived at the park, Silvio was great at leading us throughout all of the parts of the park that were open. He was super patient and was a great guide. After our amazing tour of the park, Silvio took us to an authentic restaurant on the way home and we got a huge meal that was very traditional. We definitely recommend this tour as well as Silvio! Thanks for the amazing memories!

This was the most amazing service. The guide was professional, helpful and very flexible and went out of his way to accommodate our preferences. I truly enjoyed this experience due to the thought and care put into the tour. I would highly recommend this to anyone. Thank you again for a well organized trip and unforgettable Plitvice Lakes

This was a fantastic experience! We loved every part of the Plitvice Lakes, and it was memorable! Plitvice Lakes national park is heavenly beautiful, and very well protected. Going on an organized trip was a good choice because we got many valuable insights. Plitvice Lakes is a complex of 16 lakes of various sizes that pour one into another, divided by travertine barriers.  Lakes are painted with an incredible spectrum of greens and blues thanks to the algae, mosses, and plants. Since travertine deposits are the primary cause of lakes and take millennia to create, they are one of the most significant natural occurrences. A thickness of 3 mm of travertine requires a year to produce. Additionally, all these natural processes are still in motion now and are continually transforming Plitvice Lakes.

Plitvice Lakes National Park is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, making it a living nature paradise. Visitors can explore the park's forest paths, meadows, and caves, and may spot the famous brown bear and other wildlife such as fish, birds, and small forest animals. Table of Contents 👇

Zadar to Plitvice Lakes by Car

My personal favorite, and the most straightforward way to reach Plitvice Lakes from Zadar, is by car.

The quickest route is to take the E71 highway before exiting off on the state road D1 towards Plitvice Lakes. The drive takes about 1 hour and 30 minutes, and along the way, you’ll be treated to beautiful views of the Croatian countryside.

There are tolls along this route, so keep that in mind when planning your journey.

I love traveling by car because it gives you the flexibility to start from Plitvice Entrance 1 or 2 , stay at the park as long as you like, and even overnight nearby for a full day of exploring.

If you do decide to spend the night, book Fenomen Plitvice to stay in a cozy cottage just footsteps away from the park!

Discover Cars is my go-to when renting a car in Croatia because they check both local and international providers – they’re kind of like the Skyscanner for car rentals.

My daughter and I are arriving in Zagreb on Sept 12 and will be driving down to Dubrovnik, returning back to Zagreb on Sept 20, via air. We would like to see both Plitvice and Krka National Parks and then head to Split and down the Dalmation Coast. What is your recommendation on how to best see both parks? Thank you.

See them en route to Dubrovnik, stay in Zadar 2 nights, and you can drive to both parks in under 2 hours.

We will be going to Plitvice Lakes National Park, in September and will be spending one full day there. We are staying over night so we will get up early. What is the best route to see everything. We are staying near Entrance 1 but can go to Entrance 2 if that will give us the best route to see everything early with out crowds for the first hour or so. Thanks for recommending a route.

You can not see the whole site in one day – you can see the main sights / falls from either entrance. Enjoy.

Im travelling solo(no car) & plan to go from Zagreb to Plitvice to Split and make a night stopover to see splitvice. How easy it is to get from any accomodation to the lake and take the bus to split after that?

Its doable, you just need to line up the bus times with your day at the lakes.

Hi there, I am staying in Zadar, then heading up to Zagreb after. We would like to visit the lakes but was hoping to do this enroute to Zagreb so as to avoid coming back and forth. Is there any luggage locker facilities at the lakes? If not, would you recommend driving instead? (We drive on Right hand side!) thanks!

Hey. yes, there are is a luggage storage facility at the lakes, but get there very early before it fills up. Enjoy your trip.

Thank you for all your travel tips love your website found last night and haven’t stop looking into everything you have post and I’m so excited to traveling to all of these places. Leaving Rome on April 7th and flying to Split renting car for Dubrovnik staying for 2 nights then heading back up to Split for one night then up to Zadar for one night and go to the Plitvice national park then maybe hiring a driver to take us to Venice for 2 nights then one night in Florence taking train down to Sorrento for three nights then back to Rome and heading back home. Just wondering if this is a good itinerary. Thanks, Donna

Your itinerary sounds exciting but also quite packed, especially considering the distances you plan to travel vs actual enjoyment time. L

Split to Dubrovnik (2 nights): Good for exploring Dubrovnik – but why not just stay in Split? Back to Split (1 night): This is a long drive back; consider if it’s necessary to really drive there and back Zadar (1 night): Brief stay; might feel rushed, if you skip Dubrovnik you’d have more time here Plitvice National Park: Great choice, but time here seems limited. Drive to Venice (2 nights): Long drive; hiring a driver is a good idea. Florence (1 night): Very brief. What can you see? Sorrento (3 nights): Good duration for relaxation and exploration. Hope that helps.

  • Description

Situated in the Region of Lika, in the part of Croatia that is due to its exceptional natural beauties used to be called Devil`s Garden, Plitvice Lakes are truly a small piece of Heaven on Earth. Many times proclaimed as one of the most beautiful places in the world, 16 lakes and their waterfalls are among most visited and popular sights of Croatia. It is not just about the relaxing sound of water and stunning landscapes, Plitvice also provide you a cultural elevation giving you the chance to learn about life and traditions of the people living in the area. National Park is inhabited by many protected plant and animal species so all the visitors are kindly asked to respect the rules concerning the ecology, flora and fauna. Plitvice Lakes are also Croatian oldest National Park and only Croatian natural sight in the UNESCO`s World Heritage Register. Lakes are divided into the Upper and Lower Lakes. Their characteristic is water saturation with dissolved calcium carbonate that in combination with the force of water dispersion creates travertine.

Main attractions of Plitvice:

Upper Lakes – this group includes 12 of 16 Plitvice lakes separated of each other by the travertine barriers.

Kozjak Lake – is the largest and the deepest lake in Plitvice Lakes National Park. It belongs to the group of Upper Lakes. Nature played merging two smaller lakes into one and created Kozjak, the only navigable lake of Plitvice. On the lake stands a travertine Stephanie`s island that was named by the Austrian princess who visited the Park in distant 1888.

Lower Lakes – idyllic scenes of small waterfalls, turquoise water and surrounding greenery characterize this group of lakes. Nearby is situated the underground cave of Šupljara.

Great Waterfall – located within the group of Lower Lakes , with the height of 78 meters is the heighest waterfall in Croatia.
