Remote start system

Your ford may be equipped with a remote start system that allows you to turn on the ignition from up to 300 feet away. whether it’s a cold winter morning or a hot summer day, just press a button, and the remote start feature can help adjust your vehicle’s interior to a comfortable temperature before you even get inside..

The remote start button is located on your key fob transmitter, which has an extended operating range. Remote start allows you to start your engine without ever entering the vehicle. You can disable or enable the remote start system through the information display.

If your vehicle has automatic climate control, you can configure it to begin operating when you remote start your vehicle. A manual climate control system will run at the setting it was set to when you switched the vehicle off.

Many states and provinces have restrictions on the use of remote start. Check your local and state or provincial laws for specific requirements regarding remote start systems.

Troubleshooting

The remote start system will not work if:

• The ignition is on
• The alarm system is triggered.
• You disable the feature.
• The hood is open.
• The transmission is not in park (P).
• The vehicle battery voltage is too low.
• The service engine soon light is on.

WARNING: To avoid dangerous concentrations of exhaust fumes, do not use remote start if your vehicle is parked indoors or in an area that is not well ventilated.

Note: Do not use remote start if your vehicle is low on fuel.

Remote Control Feedback (If Equipped)

An LED on the remote control provides status feedback for remote start or stop commands.

Solid green.

Remote start or extension successful.

Remote stop successful; vehicle off.

Blinking red.

Remote start or stop failed.

Blinking green.

Waiting for status update.

Using Remote Start

Remote starting the vehicle.

The label on your transmitter details the starting procedure. To remote start your vehicle, first press the lock button to lock all the doors. Then press the remote start button twice. The exterior lamps will flash twice.

The horn will sound if the system fails to start, unless quiet start is on. Quiet start will also run the blower fan at a slower speed to reduce noise. It can be switched on or off in the information display. See General Information.

The power windows will not work during the remote start and the radio will not turn on automatically. The parking lamps will remain on and the vehicle will run for 5, 10, or 15 minutes, depending on the setting.

Remote Starting with an Intelligent Access Transmitter

If the vehicle has been remote started with an integrated keyhead transmitter, you must switch the ignition on before driving your vehicle. With an intelligent access transmitter, you must press the Start/Stop button on the instrument panel once while applying the brake pedal before driving your vehicle.

Extending the Remote Start Run Time

To prevent the vehicle from turning off after a remote start, repeat steps 1 and 2 with the vehicle still running. This will extend the run time for another remote start duration. If you programmed the duration to last ten minutes, the second ten minutes will begin after what is left of the first activation time.

For example, if the vehicle had been running for five minutes from the first remote start, the second remote start will cause the vehicle to continue to run for a total of 15 minutes.

You can extend the remote start up to a maximum of 35 minutes. Wait at least five seconds before remote starting after a vehicle shutdown.

Turning the Vehicle Off After Remote Starting

Press the button once to turn the vehicle off after remote starting. The parking lamps will turn off. To turn the vehicle off, you may have to be closer to the vehicle than when starting due to ground reflection and added noise from the running vehicle.

Memory Feature

You can use your intelligent access keyfob recall the memory seat position, mirror position, and steering column position (if equipped) upon remote start. The keyfob must first be linked to a pre-set position. See Memory Function.

Best remote start for 04 f350 6.0?

Any recommendations for a remote start on an 04 f350 6.0? I live in a cold weather area and I think that it would be a good idea to let it warm up for a while before leaving in the morning.  

I am new to the world of powerstrokes, but the '06 f350 6.0 that I just bought had a Code alarm installed by the previous owner that has remote start. It works fine and the range on the remote is the best I have had on any vehicle. Sorry I don't know the model of the unit, but it comes with the 4 button carbon fiber remote. I have heard that should tell you which system is installed. Good luck and it is a great extra on these cold winter mornings.  

I got a Cobra Alarm and Remote start installed on my 06 F250 and it works pretty well, only problem I've had started happening about 8months ago, the remote start won't always work the first time, esp when it is below 30* and sometimes when I push the button for the start it will set off the alarm instead. Also periodically the shock sensor will short and activate the alarm. So I think it is all due to that faulty sensor. The only major drawback is its limited range of about 100ft, depending on any walls that you have in your way. I'd be happy if I could boost it to 500ft. You should look into Viper or Clifford, and I also found a site that gives great deals on those systems. I'll try to get the site and post it up. -BG06.  

I got the Automate AM9. Works good, dont start till light is off.  

i was able to work a deal on a remote start from Ford when i bought the truck in may, im not sure off the top of my head what the cost was cause i haggled it into the price of the truck to make their asking price more reasonable...with nothing between you and the truck it will work for probably close to 1000ft, but if your truck is around the corner of a building or something like that you get down to 2-400ft or so. it is also upgradable to their security system, has valet option, panic, etc etc  

I have two copmustar one for each PSD both are great and can be installed to start after the glowplug light goes out and have great range  

I have a Python Alarm with Remote on my 05,it works great,10 sec Delay for the Glow plugs (Too long IMO) have had it for over two years no Problems with it,the transmitter will also alert you if your alarm is going off (Limited range,I believe 1/2 a mile) Most of the alarms are made by this Company. I just had the Clifford 50.5 installed. They had a few issues with the remote start but got it worked out and so far no problems. The remote works well over 1 mile away and will notify you of anything going on with the truck, it also has a turbo timer and a short run timer for running into the store, leaving the truck running and setting the alarm.  

I have a Code Alarm, think model is CA-620, is the best alarm I have ever had!. Range is killer, and is a 2 way, One is plain 5 button w/ auto start, other is LCD, with killer features, and will start when glow plugs are ready, also has a defeat that will disarm alarm when using the keypad on the door (if you have one) Also shows interior temp on LCD, and has a turbo timer included. Really a bad a$$ system if you ask me... well worth it... btw: I am in NW Indiana, and temps have been sub, and below zero, with no problems starting.  

"Best" is subjective - you can spend a fortune and get one that almost makes it's own payments or drives itself, but for simple, cheap and reliable, I always use Polar remotes - cost about $125 plus another $100 or so for the install.  

man for like 270$ i had a Scytek installed, 1-1 1/2 mile range, it is 2 way, glow plug delay, turbo cool down, quick trip, (will run for like 15mins), you check the temp in you truck, you can set it to start at a certain time, and you can set it to start when the temp drops or rises to a set temp,,, sooo all in all it rocks,,, but it still cant get me a :beer:

i got a bulldog work great range is great like 2block  

right now as we speak there installing my new alarm in my truck. i went with a viper, was gonna get a scytek but the remotes on those things give out alot and i ve seen some alarms act up. So ill be getting start delay, turbo timer, couple of sensors through out the truck, window modules so when i arm it my windows roll up. One of my homies set me up real good.  

Arctic Start on my 03 here, can start quarter way across campus.

Expedition - Remote Start

I was going to have my dealer order a remote start kit for an '05 Expedition. He is confused as to which one to order. I was wanting the remote start that uses the same key fob to operate the doors and start the vehicle. I'm unsure of the differences between the different levels involved with these systems. The dealer is not sure if the remote start can be ordered without the alarm system in order to get all the functions on one key fob.  

Just got an '04 Expedition EB a couple of weeks ago and had the dealer install the remote start. It's a Ford accessory product. It comes with 2 new key fobs that also control the doors, so all functions are on one key fob. I did not get the alarm, just the remote start, although you can always add the alarm to the system later if you wish to upgrade. Great feature to have and works flawlessly. Hope this helps. Frank  

FYI, I believe this is the item I had installed on my truck.  

Hey guys. I work for Factory Motor Parts here in Kansas City and am an installer for the Ford Accessory Division. I install about 6 remote start/alarms a day. In the winter season I do as many as 10 to 15. I am an ex DEI/Viper technition and have been installing car audio/video/security professionaly around the Kansas City area for 15 years. There are many ford units available. RKE (100K) - Standard Keyless Entry System VSS (400K) - Add on Alarm for vehicles with keyless RKE/VSS (600K) - Keyless Entry/Alarm for vehicles without keyless RMT (bronze) - Add on Remote Start System for vehicles with keyless RMT/RKE (silver) - Remote Start w/ keyless RMT/RKE/VSS (gold) - Remote Start/Keyless/Alarm We install the gold system for $349.74 and they drop from there on the other models. The remote starts can do many things such as turn your headlights on, rear defrost on, remember your seat position, turn on heated seats, motorize the running boards on navigator, open the lift gate and the rear window, and much more. The new units are modular now where basically the brain module can be popped out of the main unit and swapped out for a higher or lower unit.  

DirtyDoggT, I'm hoping you can help me. I have a 97' expedition 4.6L that about every 6 months will not read the chip in the key. As you know this prevents me from going anywhere and I'm stuck with a towing bill. I've had the modules replaced numerous times and would like to bypass the PATS system. Will a remote starter do this? If so which one do you recommend? Any suggestions you have are greatly appreciated.  

Thanks for all the replies. My Expy will arrive at the dealer in a few days. They have the "Silver - Remote Start w/ Keyless" ordered. Hopfully the install will go well as my "small town dealer" has not installed very many remote start kits.  

I plan on installing an after market remote start, alarm, door unit in the "new" 1998 Expedition that I have just purchased. The unit is a "Bull-Dog" RS-602E unit which has a claimed reception range of 1000 ft. The unit that I had purchased 5 years ago also has a RF cabin sensor, and bump sensor, and alarm. They seem to be pretty reliable, and have many options, but are best used separately from the OEM device in the unit. :afro:
