This fun and adventuresome nature safari takes you to remote, volcanic Kruzof Island .

Head to a local jetty and board a boat for a fast, fun ride through numerous picturesque islands. Keep your eyes peeled for American bald eagles, sea otters and sea lions.

As you approach Kruzof Island, your captain will point out some intricate volcanic rock formations. Step ashore and meet your guide.

Get acquainted with your Polaris Ranger vehicle and, after a safety orientation and operating instructions, it's your turn to drive. Follow your guide on a trail through forest surrounded by beautiful scenery. Drive over bridges with gurgling streams with salmon running up them in season, and pass along a wildflower meadow on your way to a scenic estuary. Here, you will stop and search for wildlife such as Alaska coastal brown bear and Sitka black-tail deer.

After enjoying a snack , it's time to ride back to the jetty and take the boat back to Sitka.

Wildlife sightings and wildflowers blooms vary with the season. This tour operates in the Tongass National Forest under a Special Use Permit issued by the US Forest Service. Minimum age is 9 years; minimum age to drive is 18 years with a valid driver's license. Participants must be in good physical condition. Waiver must be signed and medical conditions disclosed. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed. Ride will be bumpy; guests who are pregnant or have a back or neck condition are not allowed to participate. Waiver must be signed and medical conditions disclosed. You may get wet and muddy. Dress warmly in layers with a wind- and waterproof outer layer; bring gloves, a scarf and a warm hat.

The adventure starts at 6 AM by the docks where you board a fishing boat with comfortable seating for 6. Captain Ken went over some safety topics while 2 other guides joined for the ride to the island where they guide the UTV portion of the trip. The ride takes about 30 minutes and the waters were smooth. The views were spectacular as the boat scooted along between the islands…be sure to layer up! We saw black tail deer, a sea lion and a variety of waterfowl. Once the guides are dropped off at the island, Captain Ken took us to a spot for about 30-45 minutes of fishing. We caught a couple rockfish, but the fish weren’t biting. We went back to the island where we hopped on UTV’s and began the 8 mile ride. Speeds top out at 15 mph, and the trails are fairly bumpy yet fun. We did make a couple stops for nature interpretations from the guides, then moved on. You might feel rushed, but it’s because there’s a lot of area to cover and more fishing to be done. Lunch was on a beautiful black sand beach, and consisted of turkey sandwiches, tomato soup and Russian tea. From there, we returned to the boat where Ken put us on some HOT rockfish, and we ended up catching about 10 keepers. Ken even filleted them for us! The return to the dock wasn’t complete without a humpback whale breaching 50 feet from our boat! Stop reading this and go book a trip with these pro’s, you won’t forget it! The boat ride was nice and it was fun being on the ATVs but it was disappointing not seeing wildlife. That being said, we also know there's no way they can control when the animals will show up. ;) It's beautiful out there and we appreciated our guide and boat captain. The first one was with Tim, he was a great guide and made sure we had a lot of fun. This tour is very different with all the views and the black sand beach he took us to was so beautiful. The second tour was the fly fishing with Trent and Carson. This tour was so so amazing too. Trent and Carson took the time to talk to my kids and make sure they had a great time. We caught a ton of salmon (catch and release) owner Ken came and picked us up at the lighthouse and was very kind us. Shout out to Captain Cory and Madison always with a smile!!! He quickly put me on dolly varden and was extremely patient with my lack of flyfishing skills. He was very attentive and helpful throughout the day. When fishing slowed he was quick to move and I really appreciated that. I would be thrilled to have the opportunity to go with him again. We had a tight schedule flying in and out from Juneau. Debbie picked us up at the airport, then Dave expertly captained the amazing ocean-going raft and brought us to see whales, seals, sea lions, otters, and a wide range of sea birds. Then for the ATV portion of the journey, Joe gave us a wonderful tour of Kruzof Island, and we got to see a mama bear with her two cubs! The tour culminated with a lunch stop on a beautiful spacious deserted black-sand beach! Then we had a tight schedule to make our flight back to Juneau, but the team worked together to get us to the airport on time! The ocean raft is especially remarkable, modeled after Coast Guard rescue boats, where you sit on a comfy inflated tube, like riding a horse, to soften the impact of waves. Amazing 7 hour tour of Sitka Sound islands and of an uninhabited island with a black sand beach. We were fully outfitted with “Dry Suits” goggles, hats, and gloves, to protect us from the Sitka weather. We boarded the Ocean Zodiac which was VERY comfortable and safe and were off to so many awe inspiring islands, spotting humpback, sea otters, puffins, eagles, harbor seals and sea lions. It’s obvious that Thelton is a wealth of knowledge about the waters as well as an ace of a captain. After a couple of hours we went on adventure #2, Mud Island where we boarded Polaris Rangers and followed Cory on trails across the island to the black sand beach where we had a little bagel sandwich, tomato soup and hot tea. Many incredible stops and information from Cory. We saw a bear in the distance, the salmon aren’t running yet so they are not in the streams! Words cannot put the adventurous beauty of this tour. • Patty C 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Avoid the ocean raft if you don't like carnival rides We did the Ocean Raft and UTV Nature Tour. The Bad: There were six of us, ranging from 9 to 74. On the raft, you're basically sitting on an inflatable saddle. While the younger kids had a blast on the ocean raft, the grandparents in the group hated it. Half way through the trip, grandpa had to ask if we could avoid the open water because it was like a carnival ride. It was also raining, windy, and very cloudy. I'm sure on a calmer day with better visibility, this would have been fine. However, had I known what this part of the tour entailed, I would have not booked it. The Good: The UTV trip was amazing. The island was awesome, and we even got to see a coastal grizzly bear. If I knew then what I know now, I would have just booked the UTV trip because it was well worth it. We can highly recommend this private company. We took a cruise to Alaska, got off the ship in Sitka, and looked over the private tour offerings. The owners of this company were friendly, personable, and made things work just for us. The price was more than reasonable. We were a group of 6, and 2 more people joined us in the van. Small, easy group. Our tour guide, Deanna, is a Sitka native and was just delightful. We couldn't have been happier.

One of the best excursions we had in Alaska. We were on a small boat with only 6 guests. Sonny was our Captain/guide. He is personable, knowledgeable and knows where to find the marine wildlife. First, however, we saw more bald eagles on one of the islands than I could imagine. Next came sea otters, sea lions, and of course whales. As an extra, we also saw Puffins. A great two hours with a wonderful guide. We highly recommend this excursion and this company.

We finished a cruise in Sitka and had less than a day in town. This tour fit the bill because we really wanted to see these sights before leaving. The owners worked with us about pickup (originally scheduled to be picked up at port, but we arrived earlier than expected. Luckily we were able to make last minute arrangements to change our pickup time/location). Our guide was amazing -- so enthusiastic about her town & the sights. She really made the tour enjoyable and shared her love of Sitka with us.

I always seek out local tours and this has to be one of the best! Bruce and Rhonda run a great business that can show you Sitka better with a smaller, more personalized tour and even save you some money over the cruise line excursions. Highly recommended!

We always try local companies and this time we hit the jackbox! Sikta Wildlife Tours are the best!, they are smaller group tours with most tour guides that have grown up in Sitka so they really know what they are talking about.

This was a wonderful tour and birthday celebration, most especially due to our amazing guide, Lindsay!! As a native of Sitka, she knows every inch of this beautiful place and shared her joyful knowledge with us along the way. I highly recommend the premium tour. There were only 7 of us in a comfortable small van. You will see unforgettable sights!!

Our group of six had the best time on our Sitka Wildlife Tour. Our captain was on time, friendly, and prepared (safety wise and with snacks). None of us could believe the amount of wildlife we observed during our 3 hour tour. Our Captain had a plethora of information from the history of Sitka to the migration patterns of the native species. It was an unforgettably perfect day.

Rhonda was a great guide, a native with lots of personallity and good insights! I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the totems, raptors, and bears. There was just enough time at each location! What a lovely experience!

The Peregrine is the perfect vessel for your group of up to 6 people - enclosed cabin, bathroom and outside viewing area. He showed us EVERYTHING! Otters, sea lions, ORCAS, and a gray whale that came right up to our boat - a rare treat! Captain John was always considerate of the animals and careful not to approach too close; they approached us. He also showed us interesting historic military sites along the coast, and explained the history of Sitka dating back to the Aleutian and Russian era. 5-Stars simply isn't enough! Our entire family enjoyed our customized outing in Sitka, Alaska. John & Alison are the most gracious hosts and give an amazing tour. We went on a custom wildlife and beach picnic tour. We were able to see sea lions, whales, otters, and a variety of birds on our excursion. We got incredibly close to the Saint Lazaria Islands. It was amazing to see the many different types of birds that inhabited this island. Captain John is incredibly respectful of the wildlife. We also enjoyed an AMAZING picnic lunch on a secluded beach. Alison is a wonderful chef and my family is still talking about the tour and lunch. This was easily the best excursion of our whole Alaska cruise. I would not hesitate to book with them again! Captain John might be the best kept secret in Sitka. The experience we had with him was the highlight of our whole trip. He knows the area better than just about anyone and is extremely knowledgeable about all of the wildlife. HAL Alaska 4X4 Nature Surfari

Boarded Boat and had a really good, well guided trip to Kruzof Island. Saw Eagle and other birds. ATV easy to drive - fun to cross up and over a few puddles -- yahoo from this 72 year old Grandmother. Tongas National Forest is beautiful! Guide pointed out editable and non-editable foliage. It did not rain and was not muddy. 14 and 13 year olds enjoyed the forest -- found giant slug, starfish, sea urchins, tiniest crabs, etc., etc. And saw Coastal Brown Bears! 2 young sister bears were drinking from the stream. Both, boat and ATV, guides were informative. Highly recommend taking a family on this adventure. Layer up as it can be hot and chilly. Chilly on the water. Go to see this beautiful bay and forest. Imagine a rainforest in Alaska. A must see. If you see a bear, the siting will be an added bonus. Go 'fast' and have fun!

Husband and I booked this tour through Holland America in late May 2019. Weather was about 50 degrees, kind of misty, with some rain, and cloudy. Would recommend a light water resistant jacket. Serious hiking shoes not needed, gym shoes should do. We went out to Kruzof island, which was very neat. Out of the shore excursions in Sitka, AK, this was one of the more pricier ones. The ATV workers were very timely and professional. A woman who picked us up in a bus had us sign waivers and fill out short form about our medical history and any medications we were on, just for liability purposes. She was local born and raised in Sitka, and she was very nice. From the port, it was a 10 minute or so drive over. Waiting for our boat, for about 20 min, we looked at some marine life off the dock, which actually was very interesting. Saw huge starfish, a lot of mussels, sea cucumber, and fish. The latrines that were available were surprisingly clean and not too bad if you need to go to the bathroom. On the boat ride there, about 20-25 minutes, we saw a lot of bald eagles. Our captain was friendly. We met our tour guide Nate there on the island, who was very friendly and knowledgeable. After going over the safety guidelines and how to ride the ATV (very easy), we were good to go. My husband and I were expecting quad 4 wheelers, where one would sit behind the other if there were two, but these were not it. It was a bumpy ride, but did not mind. There were 6 in our group, so my husband and I took the last ATV to get some good pictures. They did provide caramel nut popcorn (couldn't eat due to an allergy) and yummy Russian tea, which apparently is very popular in Sitka. We had three stops, to look at some things in the trail and discuss some plants and wildlife. It was very dense rainforest that I had not experienced before, and coming from southwest Ohio, it was very beautiful. We did get to see two grizzly cubs and one adult male grizzly bear. It definitely made it worth it!

We booked this tour with Holland cruise. It was wonderful! We boarded a small boat just 4 of us with the captain and headed to the national reserve island. On the way we saw whales, otters and bald eagles. The ATV was fun informative and beautiful. The ATV was not a rough ride, very enjoyable. We did not sight a bear but saw many prints and a den. On the boat trip back we witnessed a deer swimming a long distance in search of a new island home.

We took this excursion while visiting Alaska with three other couples. Overall it was a satisfactory time, however when compared to other excursions we took in other ports of call this one perhaps was the least "valuable". As mentioned in prior reviews, much of the time it's spent getting to the island by bus and then boat. The 4x4 excursion itself lasted about an hour and consisted of riding along a bumpy dirt path through some rather interesting terrain. My experience was that while driving and trying to minimize the potential for an overly jarring ride, one's attention isn't necessarily focused on the forest itself. The mid way point takes you to a wide open area where presumably wildlife may be observed. Unfortunately, we didn't see any. Then, we turned our vehicles around and returned over the same path that got us there, rather than a large loop that would prevented a repeat view of the first leg of the trip. When considering the cost ($269 apiece) this was not even close to the best value offered at our various stops. $150 per would have been more reasonable.

We found the tour through the Regent Seven Seas Cruise. My friend and I were taken via a short bus ride and a boat trip to a secluded area to look for bears and wildlife on a Yamaha FWD. The guide Henry was friendly enough and it was a pleasant drive through bumpy forest roads to looks for bears and stuff, but we really didn't see anything along the road until we got to the viewing bridge where the wide open meadows were. From that bridge we saw two bears which were very far away - even with telephoto lenses the bears would be a dot in the picture. All in all if you are into spotting wildlife (at closer range) I don't think this is the tour. However, if you enjoy driving FWD's through bumpy rainforests on the off-chance of running into a bear then this is fine. Overall the tour was fine but we were a little disappointed with how little we saw. I know there is no guarantee for wildlife sighting, but all the other wildlife tours we were on in Alaska offered abundant viewing at close range - thus the disappointment. Otherwise the tour is fine.

We booked this excursion through Celebrity cruises. My husband I LOVED this excursion. Our boat captain, Jason, took us over on the boat. On the way back, he found us a grey whale to watch. He went out of his way to make our boat ride was a wonderful part of our tour. Tristan and Ethan did an awesome job as our guides. We found 8 bears (3 young siblings and a mama with three cubs). Our guides kept us at a safe distance but allowed us a great vantage point to take it all in. When we got to the beach they had homemade scones, caramel popcorn, and spiced tea to snack on - Very yummy! What a great day we had. The ATVs were well maintained. The road is bumpy but it's a great off-road experience!! I would highly recommend this excursion.

Your 4x4 adventure begins in Sitka and takes you to a remote island, where you will ride Polaris Rangers. You’ll enjoy exploring wildflower meadows, beautiful scenery while searching for wildlife such as Alaska Brown Bear and Sitka Black Tail Deer. You’ll be greeted at the tender pier by your van driver who will take you to an aluminum landing craft for a high speed boat ride to Kruzof Island where your 4x4 ride begins. Upon arrival, you’ll meet your guides who will have your 4x4’s warmed up and ready to go. After a quick safety orientation and operating instructions, you’re ready to set off on your adventure.

Your guide leads you along an off highway vehicle trail though muskegs and forest on the way to Iris Meadows estuary where wildlife are frequently seen. Stops will be made along the way for interpretive sessions and photographic opportunities. When you arrive at the estuary you can park the 4x4 to walk around and enjoy the scenery, watch for wildlife and take photes. After a snack, it’s time to ride back and catch the boat back to Sitka.
