More information about united states.

Land of dreams, the United States of America , is a huge nation which spans most of North America , covering a staggering 3.8 million square miles. The 4th largest country in the world, and 3rd most populous, the USA is composed of 50 states , a federal district, and 5 self-governing territories. Its sheer size makes a vacation to the USA a great choice for those looking for a large variety of activities, landscapes, and cultures. With environments ranging from the beaches of California to the forests of the Atlantic seaboard , the Appalachian Mountains , the Great Plains , and the Mojave Desert , the USA contains a whole world to discover within its borders. The capital city and seat of government, Washington D.C., is situated on the East Coast, although the largest city by population is enigmatic New York , a must-visit destination on a tour of the USA, bursting with culture and countless recognizable sights, immortalized in movies and television shows. Other major cities that should be included on a vacation package to the USA are the so-called City of Angels, Los Angeles, charming San Francisco , and the ‘windy city’ of Chicago. In contrast to the metropolises of America’s mainland, the islands of Hawaii delight visitors with their natural beauty and laid-back atmosphere. Admired for its Hollywood film industry, diversity and stretching landscapes of its interior, a holiday to the USA is an opportunity to lose yourself in the wild plains, walk in the footsteps of the stars and explore the land of the free.

History of the USA

The territory of modern-day America has been inhabited for approximately 12,000 years, it’s first inhabitants are thought to have been Paleo-Indians who crossed from Siberia on ice-sheets during the last Ice-Age. In more contemporary history, the story of the USA as we know it today began in the 16th century when European colonists voyaged across the Atlantic to settle on the East Coast of the giant land mass, forming the first communities and cities in America. Conflicts between British settlers and Patriot colonies, in alliance with the French , resulted in the violent American Revolution and the Declaration of Independence in 1776, marking the beginnings of the United States of America. This made the USA the first country in the world to gain independence from European powers. By the end of the 18th century , the Constitution and Bill of Rights were adopted, granting its inhabitants a series of fundamental civil liberties. Over the next century, intrepid American ’s continued to expand westwards, acquiring new territories as they journeyed further but also displacing many Native American tribes as a consequence. By 1848 , the whole continent from the Atlantic to the Pacific had been discovered and the Californian Gold Rush began. The pivotal events of the Civil War and Abolition of Slavery followed, and by the 20th century , industrialization had engendered an impressive economic boom. By traveling across the country on a tour of the USA, you have the opportunity to trace the fascinating and complex history of this great power. Involvement in both WWI and WWII cemented the USA’s status as a global superpower and the second half of the 20th century was marked by the Civil Rights Movement of the 60s and the ‘Space Race’, with the USA successfully putting the first man on the moon in 1969, spelling a golden era in American history. With the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the USSR, the long-lived Cold War came to an end, earning the USA the status of the sole world superpower. It is still true that this enormous country occupies a significant space in world politics and culture, therefore traveling to the USA is a fantastic opportunity to get to know its history and significance for yourself.

Nature in the USA

Unsurprisingly for a country of its size, the USA is home to a dizzying range of landscapes and climate zones. It is classified as a ‘ megadiverse’ country, meaning that it contains a significant percentage of the worlds animal species and had a large number of endemic species too. For travelers looking to explore great open spaces and wilderness, a trip to the USA is a perfect choice, once you venture outside of the big cities and popular resorts. 59 National Parks help to keep the country’s impressive ecosystem protected and offer a wonderful array of landscapes and a chance to get in touch with nature. Yosemite National Park is perhaps the most famous reserve of all, renowned for its ancient sequoia trees and the stunning Sierra Nevada mountains. It is well known that the United States is brimming with natural wonders, from the scorched Death Valley in the Mojave Desert , the lowest and driest place in North America to the gushing Niagara Falls. The Giant Redwoods of California attract travelers who want to come face to face with the tallest trees on the planet. Arizona’s Grand Canyon , carved into spectacular shapes by the Colorado River, is a popular destination for helicopter tours, whilst the enormous Mississipi River spans an impressive 3,778 kilometers through the country from north to south and hosts a range of leisure activities both on the water and along its banks. The lush everglades and dreamy beaches of Florida , make the state one of the most popular holiday destinations in the country. Despite the huge population of America, there is plenty of room for the nation’s wildlife to flourish and it is home to more than 400 mammal species. The western states play host to a rich array of wildlife, from brown, grizzly and black bears to coyotes, raccoons, mountain lions, and even jaguars, not to mention the national bird, the bald eagle, so this region is surely worth a visit during a tour of the USA , if only to explore it’s wide open spaces and untouched nature.

Culture in the USA

With a recognisably Western culture, the USA’s cultural exports have spread across the world in recent decades due to globalisation and mass media, although the diverse nature of its people, a result of large scale migration, ensure a rich cultural landscape and a fabulous mix of cuisines, festivities, and traditions, not to mention music and arts scene. Of course, the original culture of the colonists who founded the United States was adopted from the British , as seen in the country’s language and legal systems, but today Latin, African and Asian cultures are also prevalent. Aside from the omnipotence of the American film industry, music is another integral part of the cultural landscape in the States, with world-renowned names such as Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra and Michael Jackson finding their success in the USA. The importance of national celebrations is another of the cornerstones of American culture, with Thanksgiving and 4th of July celebrations being amongst the most important dates in the calendar. If you’ve ever dreamed of visiting the sets of your favorite movies, walking in the footsteps of the stars or want to experience the multiculturalism of the country's biggest cities, a holiday to America can fulfill these dreams!

It’s global importance, inspirational history, and exceptionally diverse landscapes, people and states make a tour to America a fascinating journey, on the list of almost every traveler. From the sweeping skyscrapers of New York to the Mojave Desert and the snow-capped mountains of Alaska, there is something for everyone in this vast nation.

16 Best All-inclusive Resorts in the USA

Who says you need to leave the country to enjoy an all-inclusive vacation?

Suzanne Rowan Kelleher is a New York City-based staff writer for Forbes magazine and an award-winning travel writer. Her work has been featured in Travel + Leisure, TripSavvy, Conde Nast Traveler, Afar, Reader’s Digest, The Boston Globe, and Good Housekeeping.

When you picture yourself escaping to an all-inclusive resort, you likely imagine flying to Cancún, Jamaica, or maybe even the Maldives. And, of course, retreating to a far-flung destination where the swim-up bar drinks are included and your daily itinerary is created for you is pretty delightful. But here's the thing: you can find all of those perks right here in the U.S. — perhaps even within driving distance of your home.

When you take an all-inclusive vacation, meals, accommodations, and many activities are included, and the advertised rates often extend to alcoholic beverages. While private sessions like spa treatments are rarely included, it's easier to factor in extras because you know exactly how much you're spending upfront. With that in mind, here are 16 of the best all-inclusive resorts in the U.S.

The Lodge on Little St. Simons Island, Georgia

This lodge , which can be reached only by boat and hosts a maximum of 32 guests, feels like a true hideaway. Built in 1917 as a private hunting lodge, it opened to the public in the late 1970s. You're in for VIP service, fresh seafood meals, and animal encounters. The property is located within an 11,000-acre sanctuary full of roaming wildlife, including more than 250 species of birds. Rates include meals, non-alcoholic beverages, naturalist-guided excursions, boat transfers to and from the island, and unlimited access to island activities and recreation gear.

"When we visited this most secreted away of Georgia’s Golden Islands, Little St. Simons, with our then-toddler son, my husband and I remarked that it felt almost like staying at a national park," said T+L contributor Terry Ward . "Indeed, the privately owned Little St. Simons Island is managed as a conservation property. Historic cottages surround a 1917 hunting lodge and are your basecamp for eco-adventures into the surrounding oak forests and along seven miles of pristine beaches. Rates are all-inclusive, wrapping in boat transfers to the island, garden-to-table meals with lots of fresh seafood from the surrounding waters and bikes, kayaks and fishing supplies to get you out into nature and enjoying. We towed our little son in the resort’s loaner bike trailer along the island’s golden beaches, stopping for photos together at sunset that I'll always cherish."

Vista Verde Guest Ranch, Colorado

Located in the backwoods of Colorado, Vista Verde Guest Ranch offers everything you could ever want on a luxury ranch vacation. Here, rates include meals and all beverages; horseback riding; guided hiking, biking, and fly-fishing; kids' and teens' programs; evening barn dances and rodeos; and shuttle service to and from Steamboat Springs. After an activity-filled day, enjoy dinner on the ranch (some meals are upscale multi-course affairs, while others are served in a backyard-BBQ style). Then, retreat to your cozy log cabin, wrap yourself in the provided spa robes, and slip between the Italian linen sheets.

T+L Backpack Quiz

Castle hot springs, arizona.

At the Sonoran Desert retreat that is Castle Hot Springs , you can expect the ultimate in relaxation thanks to the resort's three luxurious soaking pools. You'll also find an on-site farm and greenhouse, and a wealth of activities for guests ages 16 and older including yoga, meditation, farm tours, and guided nature hikes. Dine at the resort's in-house restaurant, Harvest, or sip on a farm-fresh craft cocktail at Bar 1896. "The all-inclusive menu is great — think extravagant, five-course meals every night, with ingredients plucked from the on-site farm," Maya Kachroo-Levine, T+L senior editor, said after a 2021 visit. "The grounds are unreal — the three-tiered hot spring pools are some of the hottest in the world. And perhaps the most exciting part of this World's Best Award–winning hotel is the via ferrata course, which can help even the heights-averse traveler summit an Arizona mountain."

The 34-room boutique property is set on 1,100 stunning acres in Arizona, with an all-inclusive rate covering your daily meals, a $25 beverage credit per person per night, accommodations, most activities, access to the hot springs, and gratuities. Note that alcoholic beverages, massage services, and certain activities such as horseback riding as well as the gratuities you'd pay for such services, will cost you extra.

Bungalows Key Largo, Florida

Courtesy of Bungalows Key Largo

One of the best all-inclusive resorts in Florida , this adults-only property is located within a lush botanical garden by the beach, offering private bungalows that come with your own veranda and an outdoor shower or soaking tub. Rates at Bungalows Key Largo include access to several pools and Jacuzzis, poolside cabanas, daily yoga classes, cruiser bikes, a courtesy car to take into town (based on availability), a fitness center featuring Peloton bikes, and most on-property dining (reservations at Bogie & Bacall's, its fine dining restaurant, require an extra fee).

"When the first-ever all-inclusive resort in the Keys opened in 2018, this Florida girl knew she had to be one of its first guests," said Skye Sherman , a T+L contributor and Florida native. I arrived by seaplane (and you can, too, via Tropic Ocean Airways ) and was blown away by how chic and elegant the 12-acre boutique property was. Since all 135 rooms are standalone private bungalows with outdoor verandas, oversized soaking tubs, and garden showers, there’s no bad room on the property. Spend your days at the spa, between two pools, exploring on Huffy cruisers, relaxing on the 1,000 feet of shoreline (a rarity in the Keys), taking advantage of all the aquatic activities on offer (including boozy tours on the floating tiki boats), and sweating in the fitness tiki hut."

Alila Ventana Big Sur, California

Courtesy of Alila Ventana Big Sur

About three hours from San Francisco (or 5.5 hours from Los Angeles), adults-only Alila Ventana Big Sur is a destination in itself. The toughest part will be choosing your accommodations, which range from plush guest rooms featuring fireplaces to suites sporting outdoor showers and hot tubs to super-luxe private cottages. The inclusive rate covers all your meals, amenities like keepsake water bottles and snacks, concierge services, and access to free picnic and hiking supplies at the Excursion Outpost, so you can make the most of your Pacific Coast getaway.

"I've been to all three Alila hotels in California, and overall, this one was my favorite because of the incredible natural setting," Nina Ruggiero, T+L digital editorial director, reported after an August 2022 stay. "You're wedged between redwood forest and ocean — the perfect example of California's diverse beauty. My room had a hot tub and hammock on its deck, overlooking the forest. The Sur House restaurant really makes the most of the view, and it's worth going for that alone, but the food is also fresh and local and it has a nice wine selection. There's great wellness programming (yoga, hikes) and Japanese baths which are an incredible place to stargaze."

Fair Hills Resort, Minnesota

This affordable old-fashioned summer camp , built in 1906 on Minnesota's Pelican Lake, earns rave reviews from families who return year after year, generation after generation. The no-frills resort is decidedly unpretentious — and that's exactly what devotees love about it. Guests stay in rustic lake cabins and come together for a wide array of activities, from fishing and scavenger hunts to swimming, tennis, and golf.

Skytop Lodge, Pennsylvania

Sprawled across 5,500 acres, this historic mountain resort has been luring guests high into the Poconos since 1928. Book a room in the grand stone lodge or at the inn that opens right onto the championship golf course. As for all-inclusive plans, Skytop Lodge offers a Modified American Plan for the whole family, which includes breakfast and dinner at the lodge's eateries.

The Tyler Place Family Resort, Vermont

At the northeast corner of Lake Champlain, this all-inclusive resort has accommodated guests on its 165 acres of private shore each summer for five generations. Here, you'll find a mix of cottages and suites, as well as a slew of amenities geared toward family vacations, such as a pool complex, field house, sports fields, art workshops, hiking trails, and bike rentals. Intimate dinners are for adults only and include bistro-style meals with ingredients sourced from 75 New England farms and food vendors; kids' programming is provided during dinner.

Miraval Resorts & Spas in Arizona, Texas, and Massachusetts

Miraval Resorts & Spas now has three U.S. locations — Austin , Texas; Tucson, Arizona; and Lenox, Massachusetts — plus a luxury spa experience at the Park Hyatt Aviara in Carlsbad, California. The brand offers an immersive wellness experience with a program that focuses on healthy elevated eating. Guests can attend cooking classes to take these good habits back home, and there are plenty of included yoga and cardio classes. Miraval also gives guests nightly credits as part of its all-inclusive package to be used toward a host of treatments and packages, including facials, massages, and Reiki sessions.

Of Miraval in Tucson, T+L contributor Devorah Lev-Tov reported, "Set an hour outside Tucson in Arizona’s Sonoran Desert, Miraval Arizona is a U.S. pioneer in wellness retreats, first opening in 1995 and joining the Hyatt portfolio in 2017. The 118 rooms are housed in adobe buildings and feature a modern design with wood furnishings and private patios, with thoughtful touches like a labyrinth-inspired circular shower stall and a cozy fireplace."

Lev-Tov said that the Miraval experience offers "holistic and immersive wellness retreats that go far beyond fitness classes (although they have plenty of those to choose from daily)."

Blackberry Farm, Tennessee

About 45 minutes from Knoxville, Blackberry Farm is picturesque with ribbons of white fences, a pond stocked with fish, and houses constructed from Tennessee fieldstone. Set on 4,200 acres in the Great Smoky Mountains, Blackberry's 68 rooms are spread throughout the main house, one-bedroom cottages, and six guesthouses. The all-inclusive package includes lodging, snacks, and three meals a day. A plethora of activities are also available to be added on to your stay.

"I had high expectations when arriving at Blackberry Farm for the first time, fully aware that it was a sprawling estate scattered across 4,200 acres, at the foot of the Great Smoky Mountains," Brad Japhe, a T+L contributor, recalled. "But the actual experience here exceeded anything I could have imagined. From the outside it's pure rustic charm: barns, horse stables, country cottages. Hidden within is all the trappings of cosmopolitan luxury. Spacious guesthouses are appointed with plush bedding, fireplaces, antique furniture, and patios positioned toward scenic vistas. It’s also a gastronomic wonderland, featuring a James Beard Award-winning restaurant, relying heavily on estate-sourced produce, one of the largest wine cellars in the country, and its own working brewery. The five star property doesn’t merely pay lip service to farm-to-table; it owns the farm, the table, and everything in between."

Grand Hotel, Michigan

Courtesy of Grand Hotel

This colonnaded 19th-century summer resort, complete with lawn games and after-dinner dancing, is majestically set on a bluff on Mackinac Island overlooking Lake Huron. Every couple of years, the legendary 1887 Grand Hotel unveils an addition, such as the Gate House restaurant, where gentlemen can finally dine sans coat and tie. Each room is unique, creating a custom experience for every guest who walks through the door. There are a variety of packages to select from depending on when you visit and which events (such as jazz, murder mystery, or wine appreciation weekends, among other themes) are taking place. Choose one with a full American plan to include daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner, or a modified American plan to include daily breakfast and dinner (but not lunch).

"Since the island doesn’t allow cars, I was greeted at the airport by a special kind of taxi: a horse and buggy," raved Katy Spratte Joyce , a T+L contributor. "After a slow, beautiful jaunt through dense woods and a cute town, one of the best small towns in Michigan, my carriage neared the sprawling Grand Hotel and its famed porch, said to be the longest in the world. I notice the architecture first. The hotel is a registered National Historic Landmark and one of just 12 properties nationwide to earn the title of 'Distinctive Destination' from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. With roots dating back to 1887, the Grand has a strong sense of history and place. There are 388 signature rooms and suites, none of which are alike. Aim for a room with a private balcony, if possible. The views are worth the splurge."

Mohonk Mountain House, New York

Courtesy of Mohonk Mountain House

Mohonk Mountain House is a 251-room Victorian castle in New Paltz with a well-planned kids' program and 21st-century perks like high-speed Wi-Fi, an indoor pool, and plush in-room toiletries by Gilchrist & Soames. Your nightly room rate also covers three farm-to-table meals, curated by the hotel's executive chef and culinary team and made with locally sourced ingredients. The outdoor fun includes hiking in the surrounding Shawangunk Ridge (a.k.a. the Gunks, a famous rock-climbing locale) and, in the winter, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice-skating on the resort's own rink.

"There are seemingly limitless activities to fill your day at Mohonk," said Stefanie Waldek , a T+L contributor and upstate New York resident. "My personal favorites included tomahawk throwing, hiking some of the property's 85 miles of wooded trails, and soothing my sore muscles with a massage in the newly refurbished spa. If I had visited during the summer, I'd have loved to have gone for a swim in Lake Mohonk off the sandy beach. The specialty culinary experiences are also worth mentioning: breakfast and lunch are buffet-style and dinner is à la carte in the main dining room, but don't miss the monthly wine-pairing dinners or twice-weekly Chef's Table for an elevated meal. And, of course, one must always stop for tea and cookies in the afternoon — and an egg cream at the old-fashioned soda fountain in the gift shop."

Twin Farms, Vermont

Just north of Woodstock in southeast Vermont, Twin Farms is an all-inclusive resort set on the former estate of Sinclair Lewis and his wife, journalist Dorothy Thompson. Surrounded by woodlands and wildflower meadows, the 300-acre resort has 10 suites — most of which feature American folk art and wood-burning fireplaces — and 10 private freestanding cottages. The cottages are individually decorated and may include stone terraces, 18th-century limestone floors, and living rooms with fireside hot tubs. Twin Farms also provides customized meals with wine pairings, as well as a wide range of outdoor activities such as hiking, fishing, and downhill skiing on private trails.

"When my husband and I had a rare two nights away from our children, any semi-romantic hotel would have done the trick of providing quality alone time. But when we arrived at Twin Farms, an idyllic, luxurious hideaway set on 300 sprawling acres of woodlands in Barnard, Vermont, we knew we were in for something extra-special," said Devorah Lev-Tov after a recent stay. "The 30-year-old adults-only luxury hotel has 20 distinctively designed cottages with details like wood-burning fireplaces and private stone hot tubs, and they are adding eight new cantilevered treehouses. It’s easy to huddle up in your cottage, but if you venture out, days here are never boring, no matter the season. A multitude of nature-focused activities await, like canoeing and fishing on the pond, hiking to a dreamy picnic set up in a secluded location, skiing and sledding in winter, and soaking in the Japanese furo tub with floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the forest. Guests of the all-inclusive Relais & Châteaux property dine at Twiggs, the Farm’s new a la carte concept, and in the main dining room, where they’re treated to an elaborate tasting menu by chef Nathan Rich — even the property’s extensive alcohol collection is included in the rate. You can even get an ultra-rare Heady Topper beer anytime you want."

The Ranch at Rock Creek, Montana

It's a 100-mile drive from Missoula International Airport to this 6,600-acre property in Philipsburg, but the posh high-mountain pampering is worth it. At The Ranch at Rock Creek , the water is full of trout, each of the 29 rooms comes with well-stocked fridges, and spa treatments are tailor-made for two. The ranch also offers farm-to-table meals and a selection of outdoor activities to take in the Montana scenery.

Triple Creek Ranch, Montana

Triple Creek Ranch , just 90 minutes from Missoula, is a stunning Relais & Châteaux property that seamlessly blends the luxury ranch lifestyle with the resort's rustic surroundings. Dining is a big draw here, with ever-changing dinner menus that focus on fresh, local ingredients. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks are also included in the rate, as are handcrafted cocktails at the rooftop lounge, and house wine, spirits, and beer. Guests have access to a range of activities like horseback riding, fly fishing, yoga, meditation, guided forest hikes, geocaching, and artisanal soap and candle making, among others, so you'll have plenty to keep you busy.

C Lazy U Ranch, Colorado

Courtesy of C Lazy U Ranch

Two hours from Denver, C Lazy U Ranch offers an all-inclusive escape for the whole family, designed to help everyone from the tiniest toddlers to their parents and grandparents embrace the dude ranch life. Open year-round since 1919, the ranch has everything from horseback riding (for kids and adults), cattle pushing clinics, and a weekly rodeo to archery, hatchet throwing, fly fishing, hiking, yoga, and paddle boating, among a ton of other seasonal activities. Guests also gain access to the game room, tennis courts, a 24/7 fitness center, swimming pool, and hot tub. After a big day out, retire to one of 38 luxury cabins, which sleep anywhere from two to eight people depending on the style.

"During my May 2022 trip to C Lazy U Ranch in Colorado, I was celebrating motherhood. I was celebrating my own mother, who has loved and supported me for over 35 years, and also myself; the trip marked both my first mother’s day and my first night away from my baby. It turned out we were in good hands. Family is the root of C Lazy U’s mission and offerings — and has been since it was first established in 1919," said Evie Carrick, a T+L contributor and Colorado resident. "The ranch boasts the oldest kids’ program in the state — dating back to the 1950s — and provides kids with the space to run free and be wild. There are plenty of ranch activities — including archery and mountain biking in the summer and sleigh rides and tubing in the winter — but the real heart of the C Lazy U is their horse program, which runs year round for both adults and kids. The property is all-inclusive, with private cabin accommodations and three hearty meals. The day starts with cowboy coffee and hot chocolate around the campfire and ends with a boisterous family-style meal served on communal tables."

Backpacking

Our backpacking trips are all about switching off and getting back to basics. Say goodbye to running water, and hello to cathole toilets! Carrying a backpack loaded with camping gear, personal items and group supplies, you’ll hike through untamed backcountry and set up a new camp each day with your group. Two words: pack light.

all inclusive usa tour

Our base camp trips are perfect if you don’t want to lug a backpack around, or if you'd prefer to camp with a few extra creature comforts. After enjoying daily hikes on front country trails, you’ll return to the same campsite each day equipped with proper toilets, showers, bigger tents and a camp kitchen.

If you’re an adventurous type who also likes sleeping on a real mattress (we don't blame you), our hut-to-hut trips could be for you. You’ll still need to carry your backpack as you hike through the backcountry, but you’ll stay in huts each night that range from basic bunkhouses to comfortable motels depending on the trip.

Walking and trekking tours

Our hiking & backpacking tour reviews, essential info & faqs, what's the range of backpacking and hiking trips available.

We offer a wide range of all-inclusive backpacking and hiking tours in some of the USA's best national parks and scenic trails. Apart from getting yourself to the meeting point and bringing your personal items, everything is organised and provided for you including an expert hiking guide, permits and fees, meals, and most camping and hiking gear. Our trips range from base camp tours that include easy to moderate day hikes on front country trails to multi-day backpacking or hut-to-hut adventures in high mountains and backcountry routes.

What do I have to carry when we hike?

On our backpacking and hut-to-hut tours you'll need to carry a backpack that weighs between 25-45 lbs (11-20 kg) depending on the itinerary and season. It'll be loaded will be with your personal items (clothing, camera, toiletries, water bladder, etc), camping gear (tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad, etc), and a portion of the group's food supplies or camping gear. Base camp tours are a bit different – we'll return to the same campsite each day so you can leave your main bag at camp. You'll still need a small daypack to carry your water bottle, snacks, camera and any other essential items while we're out hiking.

Should I bring/pack anything special?

We'll provide you with camping gear including a daypack, trekking poles, tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad and pillow. Essentials you'll need to bring from home include a three-litre water bladder or bottle, hiking clothes and boots, headlamp, toiletries and medication, camera and any other personal items you might need. Just remember, it's no fun lugging a really heavy bag around so try to pack as light as possible.

How fit do I need to be to join?

While our range of backpacking and hiking trips differ in difficulty, it is recommended that you have a reasonable level of fitness so that the tour's enjoyable and you can get the most out of your holiday. To do this, try participating in some form of physical activity (such as long walks, running, cycling, etc) at least six weeks out from your trip. It's also a good idea to do some shorter test hikes with a backpack or something similar so you can become comfortable carrying your gear when the trip comes.

To help you choose the trip with the right level of difficulty, our team will forward an assessment form to you at the time of booking, and we will be open to discussing your choice and making suggestions if need be. You won't be confirmed for the trip until your form has been received and reviewed.

What sort of safety precautions are taken?

We value the safety of our customers, staff and fellow travellers very highly so you can rest assured that you'll be safe throughout the duration of your trip. Our leaders are well-trained and experienced (as well as insured) and don't cut corners when it comes to the wellbeing and safety of others. This means we only take well-researched trails and listen to all safety warnings when it comes to changing weather conditions.

Do I need special insurance for backpacking trips?

The short answer is no and yes - you won't need any extra insurance to cover any additional or technical activities that come with a backpacking and hiking trip but you will need to have an insurance policy that covers activities such as hiking and trekking. To make sure you're appropriately covered, we recommend presenting your insurer with the trip's itinerary.

Are backpacking and hiking trips accessible?

Intrepid is committed to making travel widely  accessible , regardless of ability or disability. That’s why we do our best to help as many people see the world as possible, regardless of any physical or mental limitations they might have. We’re always happy to talk to travellers with disabilities and see if we can help guide them towards the most suitable itinerary for their needs and where possible, make reasonable adjustments to our itineraries.

Do I need a COVID-19 vaccine to join a backpacking and hiking trip?

Travellers on this particular trip are not required to produce proof of full vaccination against COVID-19. However, any guest who has been in close contact with someone known to have COVID-19, or who develops flu-like symptoms (cough, fever, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, muscle pain, headache, sore throat, body aches/chills, recent loss of taste or smell), or who tests positive for COVID-19 within 14 days of their scheduled trip will not be allowed to join the trip without a negative COVID-19 test result.

7 of the best all-inclusive experiences to book this year, from a travel planner

  • As a travel planner, my clients seem to be increasingly interested in all-inclusive trips .
  • Some of my favorite luxury resorts are in Costa Rica, the Maldives, and Isla Mujeres.
  • Cruises, group tours, and adults-only lodgings can also come with all-inclusive options.

Insider Today

As a travel planner at Marvelous Mouse Travels , I know vacations are expensive — especially if you're looking to go somewhere this summer . But all-inclusive travel is often a great way to get the most value out of a luxury experience.

I've been on several all-inclusive vacations with my family, friends, and work, and I've helped other people book them in destinations around the world .

Here are some of the best all-inclusive experiences I'm recommending to my clients this year.

Try a split-stay vacation to see the best of Costa Rica.

all inclusive usa tour

Costa Rica is one of the most sought-after vacations , and for good reason. It's great for both relaxation and adventure.

I recommend booking a split stay, starting at an all-inclusive resort in Guanacaste near the beach for some fun in the sun and moving to a resort near the famous Arenal Volcano for a jungle adventure.

Some of my favorite resorts in Costa Rica are the Westin Reserva Conchal and the Dreams Las Mareas. And if you're looking for an even more unique experience, check out the glorious swim-out suites with private pools at Dreams.

Baglioni Maldives is one of my favorite all-inclusive resorts.

all inclusive usa tour

The Maldives, a remote set of islands in the Indian Ocean, offers a plethora of resort options for couples and families, but Baglioni Maldives is my favorite.

For many in the US, getting to the islands can be daunting — there are very few direct commercial flights, and it can take almost an entire day. But it's hard to beat the country's luxury accommodations and gorgeous landscape.

The Maldives also has some of the most beautiful marine life and coveted spots for snorkeling and scuba diving.

No matter where you go, overwater bungalows are the ultimate all-inclusive splurge.

all inclusive usa tour

Overwater bungalows — villas standing on poles over open ocean water — are prevalent at all-inclusive resorts in destinations like the Maldives, Fiji, and Bali.

But I've also come across the luxurious accommodations at select adults-only Sandals Resorts throughout the Caribbean.

I think having a private villa on the water is the perfect way to unwind and relax.

Adults-only vacations are on the rise.

all inclusive usa tour

Traveling with kids can be a blast, but I also think it's important for adults to take a much-needed break on their own.

Adults-only resorts have been a total respite for me and my husband after hectic months of juggling work with our kids' school and sports schedules.

If you're looking to unwind with a partner, relax on a girls' trip, or even connect with your adult children, there are countless adults-only, all-inclusive resorts to choose from, depending on where you're looking to visit.

Some properties, including Sandals and Beaches Resorts, also offer butler service. Designated staff members can help with anything from room requests and dining reservations to cabana rentals and transportation coordination.

I upgraded to the service at my favorite adults-only spot, Le Blanc Los Cabos, and I felt totally pampered.

Isla Mujeres is pure luxury.

all inclusive usa tour

Isla Mujeres, a small island off the coast of Cancún, is known for its crystal-clear, turquoise water and peaceful vibe. It's also home to Playa Norte, one of the best beaches in Mexico .

Impressions Isla Mujeres by Secrets is a gorgeous all-inclusive resort on the island. It offers luxury at its finest, but with only 125 rooms, it has a boutique feel.

One of my favorite features of the resort is the waterslide that leads right into the beautiful ocean.

There are plenty of all-inclusive packages at sea.

all inclusive usa tour

Cruising is one of the most popular vacations , whether it's an epic adventure on a Royal Caribbean Cruise, a couples-only journey on Virgin Voyages, or a regal tour of Europe on Viking River Cruises.

Although cruises aren't traditionally considered all-inclusive, with the right booking, they can have the same feel as a luxury resort.

Most cruise bookings include food, nonalcoholic drinks, and live entertainment. If you add beverage packages and excursions in advance, your trip should be fully paid for before you depart.

Book a small-group or private tour if you're looking for adventure.

all inclusive usa tour

Group travel is a great way to explore new places while soaking up culture and history.

Popular destinations include Italy, Japan, Costa Rica, and Alaska, and many travel companies take care of everything for you, essentially making it all-inclusive.

I like Adventures by Disney , which offers small-group travel all over the world facilitated by seasoned guides. All the trip details are taken care of, including experiences, food, lodging, and transportation.

Additionally, Kensington Tours offers luxury private travel where every facet of the trip is meticulously planned for you.

11 top affordable all-inclusive resorts for 2024.

A stress-free getaway awaits at these affordable all-in-one properties.

Top Affordable All-Inclusive Resorts

All-inclusive resorts promise a simplified vacation: One upfront fee covers food, drinks and select activities, so you can relax with a cocktail in hand instead of worrying about your spending. However, not every all-inclusive accommodation option offers the same budget-conscious bang for your buck; some end up costing much more than you may be hoping to pay thanks to extra fees for amenities like kids clubs or meals at specialty restaurants.

These U.S. News picks for affordable resorts are properties where two guests can stay in one room for around $250 per night or less. These prices may not be available year-round: You may need to settle for off-peak travel periods or reserve well in advance for peak seasons (usually December to April for warm destinations). Round-trip flights are not factored into these prices, but some resorts may offer packages that include air travel.

Whether you're dreaming of a family-friendly beach trip or an adults-only escape, these reasonably priced all-inclusive resorts across the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America ensure a memorable travel experience that won't break the bank.

Tips on Trips and Expert Picks

Travel tips, vacation ideas and more to make your next vacation stellar.

El Cozumeleño Beach Resort: Cozumel, Mexico

Package deals: Romance packages are available, as are hotel and flight combination deals.

If you're hoping to head to the white sands of Cozumel , a popular island just off the coast of Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula, El Cozumeleño Beach Resort is one of the cheapest all-inclusive choices. Choose between rooms facing the garden or ocean (typically more expensive), all of which are fitted with balconies.

Rates include free diving lessons in the pool and snorkel equipment rentals, plus other activities like kayaking, tennis and dance classes. Otherwise, spend your days lounging by your choice of five pools (including one indoor option), two hot tubs and a private beach. Dining venues include the upscale Veranda restaurant, the casual Cocal eatery and an assortment of bars. Recent guests describe El Cozumeleño as a great place to relax, with particularly friendly staff. Per-night costs can dip as low as $130 per room and typically don't rise above $200 per night.

Paradise Village Nuevo Vallarta: Mexico

Starting rate: From $155 per night

Package deals: Travelers can choose between the all-inclusive plan, a breakfast buffet plan, a golf package or specials determined by the length of their stays. A "Kids Stay Free" deal for children ages 2 to 12 may also be available in combination with these packages. On top of that, guests can save time and money by booking their hotel rooms and air travel together.

For an affordable option within reach of Puerto Vallarta , consider Paradise Village Nuevo Vallarta, located just under 10 miles northwest of the center of the popular resort city. The hotel's all-inclusive plan encompasses unlimited food and beverages, gratuities, nonmotorized water sports, Wi-Fi access and more.

You'll enjoy access to two lagoon-style pools with slides, hot tubs and waterfalls – plus another lap pool for workouts and a kids area. Meanwhile, palapas and chairs are available at the beach, and guests will have a long list of sporty activities to choose from, including bocce and kayaking.

Restaurant options include Mexican fare, Italian dishes and sushi, plus the Copan Sunset Sky Bar for drinks with a view. Recent visitors say that Paradise Village is a good bet for family vacations, thanks to the plentiful activities at the property.

Hotel Riu Playa Blanca: Río Hato, Panama

Pools at Hotel Riu Playa Blanca.

Courtesy of Riu Hotels & Resorts

Package deals: Hotel Riu Playa Blanca lists a variety of "best offers" on its website for select dates throughout the year.

If you'd like to look beyond classic all-inclusive destinations like the Dominican Republic or Mexico, consider Hotel Riu Playa Blanca, located about 80 miles southwest of Panama City, Panama. This modern property, opened in 2014, features a red-and-white color scheme and a sleeker design than your average all-inclusive. Accommodations all come with free Wi-Fi access, a minibar, and a balcony or terrace.

This resort is a good place for a relaxed trip; you'll have access to three main pools (plus another for kids) and the shores of Playa Blanca along the Pacific. Daytime activities include volleyball and a kids club, while live music and dance venues rule the night. In addition to activities and entertainment, the all-inclusive fares cover all meals, snacks and beverages. Dining options include a buffet, an Asian restaurant and a steakhouse, among other options. Past visitors note that the resort is ultra-clean and boasts friendly staff.

Fiesta Resort All Inclusive Central Pacific: Puntarenas, Costa Rica

Package deals: Fiesta Resort offers discounts throughout the year based on the length of your stay.

This all-inclusive resort sits about 55 miles west of Costa Rica's capital city, San Jose, and has the unusual feature of a volcanic black sand beach at its doorstep. Whether you're lounging there or near one of multiple pools, the resort's lush gardens give the feel of a tropical paradise. Activities include hits like water polo and beach volleyball, as well as some more unique options like a coffee class and palm weaving.

The property offers four main restaurants and seven bars, including poolside options. Given Costa Rica's prominence as an ecotourism destination, you may also want to visit the pristine rainforests or tropical islands in the area (however, such excursions aren't included in the hotel rates). Previous guests love the proximity to nature and the option to go on wildlife tours, though some travelers feel the resort caters more to locals.

Note: The property will be renovating its 408 guest rooms in different stages between 2023 and 2027.

Frequently Asked Questions

There's no one agency or website that offers the best deals for every all-inclusive resort. Instead, a solid approach is to use a website like Kayak or Expedia to search for resorts that have cheaper pricing available at the time you want to travel. Then, once you have the names of a few affordable options, you can shop around different agencies or websites to see which one offers the cheapest deal.

If you're on the hunt for an all-inclusive deal, it's important to think about your timing – both in terms of when you're booking and when you want to travel. Better deals tend to involve traveling when there's less demand. According to Laura Sangster, founder of luxury travel agency Caribbean Journey , there's typically less demand for all-inclusive properties in the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America during September and October, which are typically part of hurricane season .

"This is when hotels, including all-inclusive resorts, experience the lowest occupancy and thus offer the best deals in an effort to fill rooms. Historically, these have been very active hurricane months. Hurricane season runs from June 1 to Nov. 30, so rates within this period are always less than December to May."

While Sangster notes that it's possible to find last-minute resort deals for travel during these more popular months, she doesn't recommend holding out for such bargains.

"While you might benefit from a decreased hotel rate, airfares currently price the other way and will only be more expensive closer to travel," she says. "It's also important to plan ahead to ensure you are able to secure the room category you want."

Sangster advises travelers to book well in advance to get better prices, particularly if you're hoping to travel during peak season. "We saw very few deals during the 2021 and 2022 peak seasons. All-inclusive resorts seemed to follow a trend of increasing as the weeks and months ticked by," she says. "Our clients who didn't book the initial proposal we prepared often faced higher rates when they came back to book weeks or months later."

Read: The Trick to Finding Cheap Flights

Unfortunately, there isn't one easy answer to this question. It's generally possible to find cruise fares at a cheaper price than all-inclusive vacations, but cruises are known for having more hidden costs that can rack up during your trip. For example, not all cruise fares include alcoholic drinks; you may need to purchase a daily beverage package , which can quickly add to the bill. You may also have to pay more to access some restaurants on board or for excursions when the ship docks.

In contrast, all-inclusive resort rates usually include drinks (alcoholic and nonalcoholic) and meals at all restaurants on the property. It's still possible to incur additional charges for services like spa treatments or some activities like a scuba diving trip, but such fees tend to be for much more obvious extras.

The best way to know whether a cruise or all-inclusive resort is right for you is to do your research before booking. Look at what a cruise fare does and doesn't include, and try to figure out how much you'll need to pay in extra fees to have the vacation you want. You can also check out our breakdown of how much a cruise costs and even browse all-inclusive cruise options to see if they're right for you.

As a travel writer and editor for over a decade, I learned a thing or two about planning domestic and foreign trips…but I didn’t come around to the delight of the practically-planning-free allure of the all-inclusive resort until later in my experience excursion-ing. This appreciation was hard-won—I discovered how much more stressful it is to plan a trip budgeting my own money rather than company funds; you would too, if an a-la-carte resort charged an exorbitant amount for room service oatmeal and pot of coffee. Here are my suggestions for the top affordable all-inclusive resorts I’d travel to in 2024, ranging from beachy escapes in the Caribbean and Mexico to a couple surprising escapes right here in the U.S.

20 of the Best All-Inclusive Resorts in the U.S.

What Are the Advantages to All-Inclusive Resorts?

If you stay at an all-inclusive, you’re (mostly) safe from sticker shock when you’re presented with your final bill. Since the food, resort activities, Wi-Fi, parking and all the other little extras are bundled into the nightly rate, you are free to just roam the grounds booking your dinners, borrowing your water sports equipment and parking your kids in the kids’ club when you want that much-deserved me (or us) time.

However, buyer beware: While the term “all-inclusive” sounds definitive, the precise meaning can change depending on where in the world you’re booking your stay. For example, in coastal Mexican and tropical Caribbean resorts, the label usually means the price of the nightly room includes meals, activities and—this adds up, vacationers—unlimited alcoholic drinks. (So, for instance, imagine you’re on a cruise , except the ship analog would be the boundaries of your Cancun resort.) By contrast, in popular destinations including Hawaii, Las Vegas and continental U.S. resorts, room charges usually only cover the overnight room stay itself, with possibly a breakfast included. In these cases, sometimes domestic resorts will bundle room nights together and add themed perks—say, a show at the resort’s casino and dinner or a set of activities suitable for children—for a special price.

How I Chose the Top Affordable All-Inclusive Resorts

I searched for resorts with high-ranking user reviews costing below $350 per night, including meals and activities. Resort rates can swing wildly—from the premium on high season bookings during spring and summer school holidays, as well as during winter to the relative bargain shoulder season booking opportunities between Thanksgiving and New Year. So for comparison’s sake, I quoted prices for the May-June booking season. When resort rates diverge from the all-meals, all-activities model, I note it in the text. Now then, on to your stress-free moveable feasts of sun, fun and vacation affordability.

American Gateway – 4 Days

The sights were amazing but this is a lot of ground covered in a short amount of time. Perfect if you have few days and want to see as much as you can but it’s a little exhausting. Would have loved two days in Washington to see everything and not feel rushed. Our guides were wonderful. Joseph was especially interesting and thorough. The hotels were very good but would have liked to reach them a little earlier in the evening to settle in. Nevertheless, we had an awesome time and the impressions of the iconic sights seen will stay with us always.

What people love about east coast usa tours.

Overall the 2 tour guides were good, especially Brian who guided us from NJ La Quinta to Philadelphia, Amish Country to DC and back to NY. Loved his sense of humor, his knowledge- will definitely recommend him to anyone! Great job Brian! And thank you !!
A hectic and fast paced trip, starting with early mornings. Loved Niagara Falls and being able to go to the Canadian side for one night (remember to apply for a Canadian Esta and bring your passport). Pennsylvania and Amish country side was a treat. Wish we had more time there. Love hearing about American history. Then Washington DC- amazing city. We disembarked after touring DC monuments and aeronautical museum and spent two more days in DC. Wharf, eateries, sights and monuments within reach.

Youtube star wesley bryan is rocking a mustache, has a new putter and, oh, is winning this week, share this article.

all inclusive usa tour

The changes in Wesley Bryan’s life seem never-ending these days. Sure, the co-star of the Bryan Bros Golf YouTube channel is still creating crazy content, like when he and brother George recently tried to break 50 from the front tees at Aiken Golf Club, just a half-hour east of Augusta National.

But Bryan and his wife Elizabeth just welcomed a third baby girl into the world eight weeks ago, he’s dropped a new putter in his bag and he’s sporting a new facial hair look.

How is all this change affecting his golf game?

Just wonderfully, thanks.

Bryan followed up a 63 in the opening round of the Corales Puntacana Championship with a second-round 66 on Friday, one that included him going 4 under on the day’s final three holes to get to 15 under at the event’s midpoint.

The week in the Dominican Republic started with a new L.A.B. putter that has Bryan leading the field in putting through two days at Puntacana Resort and Club.

“This is week one with the L.A.B. in the bag. It cooperated, it’s going to stay in there for the forever future at this point, that’s what it feels like,” Bryan said. “I just saw a lot of people that are switching to it and I was like, man, I’ve got to at least give it a try.

“To be fair, it’s a little bit polarizing on the internet and a lot of people love it or hate it, whatever. Art, science, whatever it is, I just wanted to try it.”

Bryan’s consecutive low rounds have him in a good position to claim his second PGA Tour title as Justin Lower continued his run of solid play and is a stroke behind Bryan at 14 under, but the field drops off from there. Coincidentally, Bryan’s first win came back in 2017 at the RBC Heritage, where the top players are playing this week without him.

But he’s shown no signs of holding a grudge. In fact, he and his burgeoning family seem to be living the life at the beachside resort. Bryan said his crew spent plenty of time at the pool on Thursday and the group was planning to hit the nearby lagoon on Friday.

“I don’t know how life gets any better than that, honestly,” he said.

As for his new look, Bryan said the new mustache came by circumstance, but it’s potentially a look he could stick with. Especially if he continues to play like he has thus far this week. Bryan missed the cut in his only other PGA Tour start this year in Puerto Rico and missed the cut in 11 of  19 starts last season.

“It started with a beard to start the week and my wife, she doesn’t like when I have a beard, so I said I would shave it off,” he said. “I brought a really bad razor blade down here and a trimmer and anything so I tackled the cheeks a few days ago and it was brutal, and I went for the chin yesterday. Now unfortunately I think the stache is here to stay for the rest of the week.

“Sorry, Elizabeth … but I feel like until we shoot over par or whatever, then we’ll shave it off, but right now it’s here to stay. Shout out, Carson Young.”

While there are numerous dining options, be sure to make reservations at Spacewalker , where you dine aboard a spaceship and enjoy creative interstellar cuisine. It’s a delightful and fun experience for the entire family.

FAMILY HOTELS: 9 fun hotels for kids with incredibly cool kids clubs

Kids will love the outdoor pool and water slides at the Aqua Nick water park, where they can get "slimed" if they aren't careful (it's just green water and the kids love it). Club Nick offers games, activities, and learning programs for kids ages four to 12 years old. Little ones will get to meet their favorite characters at this resort, from Dora the Explorer and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to SpongeBob SquarePants and many other Nickelodeon characters.

For adults, you can unwind with a spa treatment for two at Vassa Spa . Enjoy an outdoor couples massage followed by an afternoon at the relaxation lounge. Adults can also partake in some of the pop-up events at the resort such as tequila and culinary tastings.

Rates begin at $250 per adult/per night and kids start at $87 per night. Children three years old and under stay free. There's also a Nickelodeon resort in Mexico that's also among the best value all-inclusive resorts for families ( read our full review ).

6. Vista Verde Guest Ranch

Clark, Colorado

An all-inclusive dude ranch resort that caters to families with kids six years old and up, Vista Verde Guest Ranch has upscale one- to three-bedroom log cabins with private decks and hot tubs. Fully stocked refrigerators and goodie baskets upon check-in are just some of the delights you’ll find upon arrival. Your oasis has plush mattresses and cozy sitting areas, but what you won’t find are TVs or phones. You won't need them because there's so much to do, and though this is quite a pricey resort the value here is real.

COWBOY UP: 11 best dude ranches for families in the U.S. and Canada

The horses are the big draw for this ranch, but there are plenty of activities to keep all family members busy. Go paddling on the water or fly fishing in the warmer months. Come wintertime, try fat biking through the snow, or be whisked away to nearby Steamboat Ski Resort for skiing and snowboarding. For a fun family activity, book a dog sledding tour with professional guides who take you on a thrilling ride. (Off-site activities incur additional costs.)

Foodies rejoice because elevated cuisine can be found at Vista Verde. Expect weekly formal dining affairs where multi-courses are meant to be enjoyed while connecting with loved ones. There are also romantic candlelit dinners for adults so couples can spend some alone time together. This is a family resort, but at various times throughout the year Vista Verde caters to an "adults-only" crowd. Rates range from $800 to $1,165 per night, per person, depending on the season. Kids six to 13 are $100 per night less than adults throughout the year.
