Barrhead Travel was found in 1975, when Bill Munro began operating from an unremarkable shop in the south Glasgow suburb of Barrhead with just 4 employees.

Fast forward nearly forty years, and you’ll find that our company has mushroomed into a multi-faceted travel giant with around 800 employees in over 45 branches – and Barrhead Travel is now one of the largest and most successful travel groups in the UK.

I always request Hugh Doran at Barrhead Travel at  Braehead  in Glasgow. I usually provide a place where I would like to visit and then I leave it to him and he always comes up with a first class holiday for me as I travel alone.

Tokyo cruise

Paperwork nightmare

We booked a p and o cruise and have never experienced so much admin and paperwork to deal with. We had a form to complete for entry to Barbados, I was unable to upload the passport picture. I became extremely distressed as we are leaving in a couple of days. I went to Barrhead travel in  braehead  and spoke with Iona who was a trainee but was extremely supportive, the manager came over and then located Chris a cruise expert who immediately helped us. I cannot stress how thankful I am to Chris and Iona who were so helpful, reassuring and supportive. Would def use this branch to book future holidays.

Thorough, professional and friendly

Simon was very thorough, efficient and approachable from our initial enquiry through to booking our cruise. Nothing was too much trouble and he was not pushing us into a decision in any way. It was our first experience booking a holiday through Barrhead Travel but I doubt that it will be our last. I interacted with other members of staff in person and on the phone during our experience and was also impressed. A very positive experience overall.

Barrhead Travel opens new flagship store in Glasgow

Barrhead Travel has opened a new flagship store in Glasgow.

The Gordon Street shop is split across two levels, with the ground floor as a retail space and the first floor as a dedicated hub for the agency’s specialist sales divisions, including cruise, long-haul and Canada departments.

There is also an events space, a training room and a private meeting room.

More than 35 agents are based in the store, which is the first in the company’s portfolio to be paperless, in line with its sustainability targets.

Additional positions are expected to be added this year, including apprenticeships.

Jacqueline Dobson, president of Barrhead Travel, said: “With travel demand exceeding 2019 levels, we’re pleased to be making significant investments in our team and retail locations.

“Our new flagship store marks the start of an exciting new chapter for Barrhead Travel as the industry embraces continued demand for responsible travel.

“The new space gives us the flexibility to offer a people-first, book human approach that’s designed to offer clients the personalised support they need to secure the holiday of their dreams.

“Although we are now a UK-wide business, Glasgow is our home and we’re delighted to continue to invest in the city with offices and retail premises that will play an important role in skills development and job creation.”
