All about beşiktaş jk museum entrance ticket.

Football is the most popular and most watched sport branch in Turkey . There are many big sports clubs and there are millions of people supporting them. Besiktas Gymnastics Club is one of the biggest sports clubs of Turkey and is one of the long-established ones of Istanbul. It was found in 1903, when there were no big stadiums that pursue football activities. Besiktas supporters and the members of Besiktas football team liken the stadium with the concept of home and call it by the name “Eagle’s Nest” because Besiktas team is identified with black eagles. It is not hard to guess that the stadium located in the Besiktas district of Istanbul is very significant and valuable to the residents of Besiktas. It has an unstable story but also a glorious one. It witnessed many breath-taking moments in the history of football in Turkey as well as many unbelievable stage performances by globally famous artist. Seeing Besiktas JK Museum and not discovering Besiktas in its entirety would be a shame therefore we prepared you a humble advice on what to do in Besiktas alongside with information on the museum.

A Brief History of Beşiktaş JK Stadium

In 1939, by Turkish architects’ cooperation with invited architects from Italy initiated the project of a stadium, on the area which was used as the Dolmabahce Palace’s horse stables before. These were the groundworks for Inonu Stadium. Unfortunately, the conditions as results of the Second World War, inhibited the construction. In 1943, it was reinitiated. It took 4 years to build the stadium and on 27 November 1947, it was opened. Later the name Inonu, which was the name of Ataturk’s brother-in-arms and the first president of the republic was eliminated because of the political conflicts.

When it was first opened it had the capacity to host 16 thousand people because the aim of the construction was to be aesthetic rather than seating thousands of people. However, when the number of supporters enlarged in big numbers through the years, in 1950 they had to add 5000 seats more. Later it reached 41.000 people capacity by further additions and adjustments.

After the final restoration in 2004, even though the stadium was considered as a football sanctuary, almost like a sacred place for the supporters, building a new stadium from scratch became an issue. Finally, in 2013 the foundations were established to build a new stadium and on the 10th of November 2016, the stadium began functioning under the name of Vodafone Arena . In September 2023, Tüpraş becomes the title sponsor for the Beşiktaş Gymnastics Club’s (JK) Stadium so between the years 2023-2026 the Stadium will be called 'Tupras Stadium'.

Why Beşiktaş JK Museum is Significant?

Bjk Stadium became an exceptional stadium because it did not only host unremarkable football matches but also many events and memorable concerts. In the summer of 1993, which is now remembered as the unforgettable summer of Inonu Stadium, many concerts took place in the stadium. Michael Jackson, Guns N’ Roses, Elton John, Bon Jovi, Metallica, Madonna Sting and Scorpions gave a musical feast to the ears of Istanbul residents on that summer. Then it continued hosting many more legends of millennial culture even until today. A museum, carrying the title of being the first museum in commemoration of sports culture and history of Turkey, opened in the stadium in 11 December 2011. Besiktas who witnessed the sports history of Turkey, with its 115-year history turns its museum collection resources for sports culture. You can reach the museum, that is built on 1650 m2 area, if you enter from the “19 Mayis” gate of the Tupras Stadium. It is the largest sports museum in Turkey in that sense. You will see the chronology of the club and receive information about the branches of sports that the club is active in with more than 50 digital applications appropriate for a wide range of age group. The working hours for the Besiktas JK Museum are 10.00-18.00 in October-May and 10.00-19.00 in June-September, any day but Mondays.

What’s Around Beşiktaş JK Museum

As we stated before the stadium is located in Besiktas, the most central neighbourhoods of European Istanbul. There are many things to do in Besiktas after your visit to the stadium and it is a great location to start your journey in Istanbul especially if it is your first time there. First thing to do while you are planning your trip is to find a place to stay so we recommend you to try Swissotel the Bosphorus or Conrad Istanbul Bosphorus which are both located in Besiktas and close to the stadium. It is easy to reach anywhere you want from there because public transportation is available and bus stops are ridiculously close by. You can also take the ferry to the Princes’ Islands or ferry to the Anatolian side of Istanbul.  If you would like to see all of the islands you can also take a Prince’s Islands Boat Trip . Dolmabahce Palace is also close to the stadium you reach there on foot. The palace emphasizes the Bosporus’ beauty when it is lighted in the night and signifies the latest palace life of Ottoman Empire so you should not miss Dolmabahce Palace on your Istanbul visit as well. You can have a  tour of Dolmabahce Palace  if you have your Tourist Pass. You can even attend a tour of palaces and pay an extended visit to the palace if you don’t want to overlook the delicate details of it. Painting and Sculpture Museum, National Palaces Painting Museum, Palace Collections Museum, Vampire House and Dolmabahce Mosque are all close to th stadium so you might consider visiting them as well. The subject of the Gezi events of 2013, Gezi Park is very close to the stadium. You can relax and take a break from the rush while you are there. Finally, Kucuk Ciftlik Park which is a very nice place that hosts concerts, festivals and various events very frequently, is practically near the stadium. You might arrange your schedule to attend a concert or a festival there accordingly.

When you aren’t visiting Vodafone Park to watch Besiktas JK play, there are two reasons to visit:

  • The Besiktas JK Museum, the largest sports museum in Turkey
  • The Vodafone Arena Stadium Tour, taking you to areas you don’t have access to on game day

The following is a review of the Vodafone Park stadium tour and Besiktas JK Museum.

Gym Club . Translated from Turkish, J imnasti K ulüp. This confused me for so long, so thought I would get that issue out of the way.

Let’s get started!

I didn’t realise there was the option of the stadium tour before I arrived (it’s the first stadium tour in Turkey), but for an extra 10 TL to do both, it’s a no-brainer.

There are currently no stadium tours in English, so unless you have someone translating, you don’t get all the juicy info behind the energy friendly stadium.

vodafone park stadium tour review

That said, you get to see the usual aspects of a stadium tour:

  • Various views from the stands
  • Media tribune
  • Changing rooms (both home and away)
  • The players tunnel
  • And the highlight, stand at ground level by the playing surface

VIP Box at the stadium

In 2016 the stadium was voted #1 by the public, and #2 by a jury as the best new stadium worldwide on StadiumDB.com . It’s cool they went with the circle shape too, rather than the regular rectangle used now. There’s a reason for that though.

Given the stadium’s location by the Bosphorus, surrounded by roads, and Dolmabahce Palace close by, getting the right design proved tough. They restarted plans from scratch several times to meet Government requirements. For example, Eski Açık stand and its towers couldn’t be demolished as they’re historical monuments. They also had to consider the surrounding area as the stadium needed to fit into the landscape.

You can read about it in more detail on Wikipedia , but I’d love to have gotten to know more from the tour guide. So many questions!

What I did like about the tour was the interactive parts.

There was a green screen area available for photos we stopped at. Most of the kids got on board, with their idols being displayed on the picture printed for collection post tour. They could make this an option you choose before the tour starts as it did feel like we wasted some time here.

The other interaction was in the media room. Laughs were had when a guest pretended to be a Besiktas player and the rest of the group asking him questions. This did seem fun, but again, non-Turkish speaker left me confused.

The tour took about 1 hour 45 minutes if I remember correctly. There is plenty of time to get photos on the tour but we were at capacity (or close) with 25 people on the tour. This definitely was too many, often you’re scrambling to get a photo without others in the background.

If you are going for the tour, I wouldn’t unless you are super passionate about Besiktas JK, stadium tours, or love architecture. The lack of English English takes away the magic. If you’re going to the Museum as well, you may as well do both.

Besiktas Museum Review

besiktas stadium tour tickets

The Besiktas Museum was awesome! Yay for information boards in Turkish and English. In addition there were lots of artifacts, trophies, photos, and some unique interactive activities.

The Interactive Displays

These were the instant standout as I think back to my museum visit. I ended up there longer than 45 minutes ( my self imposed museum time limit ) as I didn’t realise there was a second floor!

besiktas art

Some cool art work on the tunnel where the bus arrives at the stadium

The Karaoke Room : Football fans love their chants, and in the (mostly) soundproofed room you can grab a microphone and sing along to the Besiktas chants karaoke style. I wasn’t singing but saw a couple happy as lads belting out the sounds before midday. Impressive.

The Crowd Noise : The Besiktas fans are famous for their noise levels, whistles piercing through the air. They’re so loud that Leipzig’s Timo Werner asked to be sustituted in September, he couldn’t handle the noise. That’s not something you do unless you really are struggling.

besiktas crowd noise game at museum

You can see how loud the noise is in the room, very cool idea

The noise room replicates noise levels when you press a button, increasing up to 162 decibels. Honestly, when I tried it, I thought it’d be louder, but never the less it was fun and something different (probably not advisable for children).

vr at besiktas museum

First time experiencing virtual reality

Virtual Reality: I’d never tried VR before! I knew what to expect as I’d watch a couple before me on the big screen. When you pop on the headset, you’re in the front seat of a roller coaster inside Vodafone Park. Very clever!

I’ve got no idea how long you are on the roller coaster for but there were a couple of moments where I was moving around as you do on a roller coaster. Virtual reality rocks!

Other Parts Of The Museum

  • a Besiktas stars section of some sorts, like the classic Hollywood thing
  • weird office replica of someone important to Besiktas
  • fun facts about football
  • A lot of photos, trophies, and random memorablia.

This is not only the largest but I would say the best sports museum in Turkey. definitely out of the three big football team museums.

What Are The Vodafone Park Stadium Tour & Museum Prices?

besiktas signage

If you buy tickets for the stadium tour and Besiktas Museum separately tickets are 25 TL for each (15TL for seniors, children, and students). So the obvious move is to purchase both the stadium tour and museum pass for 35 TL (not sure of the discounted prices for seniors, children, and students)

Vodafone Park Opening Hours?

Football is the most popular and most watched sport branch in Turkey. There are many big sports clubs and there are millions of people supporting them. Besiktas Gymnastics Club is one of the biggest sports clubs of Turkey and is one of the long-established ones of Istanbul. It was found in 1903, when there were no big stadiums that pursue football activities. Besiktas supporters and the members of Besiktas football team liken the stadium with the concept of home and call it by the name “Eagle’s Nest” since Besiktas team is identified with black eagles.

These were the ground works for Inonu Stadium. Unfortunately, the conditions as results of the Second World War, inhibited the construction. In 1943, it was reinitiated. It took 4 years to build the stadium and on 27 November 1947 it was opened. Later the name Inonu, which was the name of Ataturk’s brother in arms and the first president of the republic was eliminated because of the political conflicts.

When it was first open it had the capacity to host 16 thousand people because the aim for the construction was to be aesthetic rather than seating thousands of people. However, when the number of supporters enlarged in big numbers through the years, in 1950 they had to add 5000 seats more. Later it reached 41.000 people capacity by further additions and adjustments.

After the final restorations in 2004, even though the stadium was considered as a football sanctuary, almost like a sacred place for the supporters, building a new stadium from scratch became an issue. Finally, in 2013 the foundations were established to build a new stadium and on 10th of November 2016 the stadium began functioning under the name of Tupras Stadium.

Besiktas FC Stadium and Museum Tour – Istanbul

Besiktas FC Stadium Tour - A stadium tour of Istanbul football team, Besiktas FC

Besiktas FC Stadium Tour

Besiktas are one of the top 3 Istanbul teams.  In fact they are multiple winners of the Turkish Super League.  Reasons to take a Vodafone Park stadium tour whilst in Istanbul include;

  • You’re a huge Besiktas FC fan
  • See a huge, modern stadium
  • Watch a Turkish Super League Match
  • Admire the huge trophy collection in the museum
  • Watch a music concert (Michael Jackson performed here)
  • View the exterior inspired by the Colosseum of Rome
  • Stadium is conveniently located close to several points of interest of Istanbul

I was staying at Hotel Momento Golden Horn which was just a few stops from Vodafone Park by tram.

Besiktas FC Stadium and Museum Tour - Location

Vodafone Park is opposite Dolmabahce Palace in the Besiktas district of Istanbul.  In addition it’s a short walk to Taksim Square and the main shopping street of Istanbul.  The easiest way to get to the stadium is by the Istanbul Tram.  Simply take the tram to the last stop, Kabatas and it’s a 5 minute walk.  Due to its proximity to historic buildings, the stadium was designed to fit into its surroundings.  For this reason, it was designed to look like the Colosseum in Rome.  However, I would say it resembles Pula Arena more than the Colosseum.

Besiktas FC Stadium and Museum Tour - Interior

VIP Section

Besiktas FC Stadium and Museum Tour - Media Section

VIP seats in the stadium are some of the most advanced in the world.  Each seat comes equipped with an interactive HD monitor.  You can watch a live TV broadcast as well as access the latest player information and statistics etc…  In addition, there are several stadium vision monitors as well as WiFi for those not sitting in the VIP section.

Executive Boxes

Besiktas FC Stadium and Museum Tour - Executive Boxes

Vodafone Park has 144 executive suites for those who wish to watch a game in style.  As part of the tour you’re not permitted to enter a suite but you may peer through the entrance and take photos.

Away Team Dressing Rooms

Besiktas FC Stadium and Museum Tour - Away Team Dressing Rooms

Home Team Dressing Rooms

Besiktas FC Stadium and Museum Tour - Home Team Dressing Rooms

As you would expect in a modern stadium, the home team changing rooms are equally as modern.  Each player has his name and picture above his locker, as a result it’s much more inspirational than the away locker.  Additionally players are reminded they are in the home of the champions.  Besiktas are multiple champions with much success coming in the Turkish Super League as well as the Turkish Cup.

Players Tunnel

Besiktas FC Stadium and Museum Tour - Players Tunnel

Besiktas FC have a players tunnel which extends out onto the pitch.  Unfortunately you’re not permitted to step onto the pitch but you can walk as far as the sidelines.  The reason for the extendable players tunnel is for players (and officials) security.  Turkish football can get quite heated and fans are known to throw objects onto the pitch.  In fact it was at this stadium in April 2018 when a Fenerbahce fan threw an object at the Besiktas manager, injuring him in the process.

Besiktas FC Stadium and Museum Tour - Pitch Side

Media / Press Room

Besiktas FC Stadium and Museum Tour - Media / Press Room

The press room is where Besiktas football club announce new signings.  For example, they announced the signing of Pepe from Real Madrid here, he also appeared for a press conference.  In addition Champions League press conferences are held here.  As part of the tour you’re invited to sit where the manager and famous players sit and pose for photos.

Besiktas FC Stadium and Museum Tour - Trophy Cabinet

In the Besiktas museum you’ll learn the history of the stadium, football team as well as see several trophies.  If you’re a huge Besiktas fan or simply love learning the history of football, then the 2 floors of the Besiktas museum are full of interesting information.

How to get to Besiktas Stadium – Vodafone Park

It’s easy to get to the Besiktas stadium.  Take the tram on the European side to the last stop, Kabatas.  From Kabatas station it’s a 5 minute walk to the stadium.  Furthermore there’s another major point of interest of Istanbul here called the Dolmabahce Palace.

Besiktas stadium tour

What an experience. They recreate the whole experience of being a player, or a media person or just a fan in seats. Awesome

Me and my dad decided to go on stadium tour their has been fantastic. The design and stuff was excellent and interesting. The tour guide was helpful and excellent and so does staff in the club store was excellent and helpful.

Fantastic experience for football lovers. Unfortunately there is no guided tour in English (only Turkish) but you can rent an audio guide for TRY25. You can have access to many different sectors such as: stands, changing rooms, press room, football pitch. After the tour you can visit the Besiktas Museum (TRY15) which also worth a try.

besiktas stadium tour tickets

Very nice stadium, went to a game and the atmosphere is amazing although getting tickets was a little complicated

An amazing atmosphere! You’ll watch the craziest fans of Turkey in this stadium. Before the game you should drink sth with all the Besiktas fans in Carsi. Sing or just listen all these impressive songs together. Then walk the most beautiful road of the world, both sides full of trees and Atatürk pictures. At the end of the road here’s our home Vodafone Park. Get in here, believe me, you won’t regret. And if you do this, i’m sure you’ll be a fan of Black Eagles forever, welcome to the club ;)

as an iranian Besiktas fan, the tour was of course on my bucket list and one of the best experiences of my entire trip last april (2018). it is also the only stadium i've ever been into therefore i do not have a lot to compare but i recommend the tour to any football fan that visits istanbul. the stadium is quite luxurious and if you know turkish the guide is actually quite helpful but you can also pay a little extra and provide yourself with recorded guides in english and some other languages. the whole process of the tour was quite exciting.

Vodafone Arena

Vodafone Arena

The Vodafone Arena is as modern as modern stadiums come. Combine that with the passion of the Besiktas fans and one of the most stunning stadium locations in the world, and you’ve got an unbeatable experience.

Club: Besiktas JK | Opening: 2016 | Capacity: 42,000 seats

History and description

The Vodafone Arena is the recently opened new stadium of Besiktas JK. It replaced Besiktas’ old I nonu Stadi , which had been the home of the club since 1947, but lacked modern facilities.

While Inonu Stadi underwent a major renovation in 2004, the club kept investigating the possibilities for a larger redevelopment or construction of a complete new arena, but the stadium’s protected status as a historical monument delayed the plans. Finally, in 2013, the go ahead for a new stadium was given, leaving only the protected facade in place.

It took three years to build the new stadium, and on 10 April 2016 the Vodafone Arena officially opened with an inauguration ceremony. The first match was played a day later, a league match between Besiktas and Bursaspor (3-2).

In December 2016, two bombs exploded outside of the stadium after a Besiktas game, killing 38 police officers and 8 civilians.

How to get to the Vodafone Arena

The Vodafone Arena is located slightly north-east of Istanbul’s city centre on the banks of the Bosphorus next to Dolmabahçe Palace. It lies about 2.5 kilometres from Galata bridge and 1 kilometre from Taksim Square, from where it is a 15-minute walk to the stadium.

Taksim Square can be reached by metro (line 2), historic tramway 5, and is served by many buses and dolmus minibuses.

Boats from the Asian side of the river arrive at Kabatas, from where it is a 5-minute walk to the stadium. Kabatas is also served by (modern) tram line 1, which passes through Istanbul’s historic Sultanahmet area.

Address: 1 Kadirgalar Street, Visnezade, Besiktas, Istanbul, 34357

Eat, drink, and sleep near the Vodafone Arena

The Vodafone Arena is located in the central Beyoglu area, which is packed with shops, bars, cafés, and restaurants. You will have no trouble finding anything of your liking near Taksim Square or Istiklal Avenue.

This also means that there is an enormous amount of hotels to choose from near the stadium. If you’ve got money to spend, you will be very pleased to know that the The Ritz-Carlton , Swissotel , and Ceylan InterContinental are right next door to the stadium, but rest assured that there are many cheaper alternatives a few more minutes walking away.
