Titleist NXT Tour and NXT Tour S Golf Ball Review

50 Words or Less

The Titleist NXT Tour and Tour S are two mainstay golf balls at an affordable price with premium performance.

Introduction

I LOVE playing golf with Titleist Pro V1x golf balls.  I absolutely love it.  Unfortunately, I am not an elite level player with an unlimited free supply of them.  When I have to buy golf balls on a budget, it’s always been a no-brainer for me to pick up a box of NXT Tour balls, and there’s now a new option in the NXT Tour S.  This review will tell you why you should strongly consider a dozen NXT Tour golf balls next time you head to the store to pick up a box.

Titleist NXT Tour (1)

The two biggest contributors to the feel of the golf ball are the core and the cover.  The hardest part to get right seems to be the cover.  If companies make it too soft, the ball feels mushy and it gets torn up too fast from the grooves of the clubs.  If the cover gets too hard, the ball starts to feel like a rock and you lose a lot of the sweet feel you’re looking for.  Yes, the core of the ball is very important, but the big difference maker in feel seems to be the quality of the cover.  Titleist used their Fusablend cover on the NXT Tour and NXT Tour S golf balls which I feel will hold up against the feel of many other brand’s premium golf ball ranges .  Frankly, I don’t think the difference between the Pro V line and the NXT Tour line is as great as others may think, and that’s truly a testament to the NXT Tour balls.  It felt to me that I was lacking some of the response in the NXT balls, but I firmly believe that to be related to the “Titleist placebo effect.”  Because I knew the ball wasn’t my Pro V1x, I “felt” a difference off the driver and longer clubs.  If these balls were marked Pro V1x and Pro V1, I most likely would not have noticed a major difference in feel.

The difference in the NXT Tour and NXT Tour S balls is at the core itself.  The NXT Tour is a dual-core ball with the softer core at the middle of the ball whereas the NXT Tour S is a single-core ball that has a softer compression to give you an even softer feel and response than the NXT Tour.  I firmly believe that, again, if these were two unmarked balls put into play, people would be surprised to learn that they aren’t the flagship premium golf ball of one of the major brands based on feel alone.

Hitting the NXT Tour and Tour S on long shots is fairly boring…in a good way.  I got almost identical ball flights to the Pro V1 and Pro V1x, about the same speeds, and a little less spin with the NXT Tour.  The predictability and quality of this ball made it easy to control and create the shots I was looking for.  All in all, the NXT Tour and NXT Tour S golf balls both held their own in the long game .  My preference leans a little toward the NXT Tour because it felt a little firmer and I seemed to get a little more length with it.

When it comes to defining a golf ball, the short game is always the make or break portion of the experience and will be a major influence on how someone feels about moving forward with a golf ball.  As with any golf ball test, the first thing I did with the NXT Tour and Tour S was take them out on the practice green to see how they felt with the putter.  I preferred the feel of the NXT Tour, but the NXT Tour S also had a nice feel to it.  For me, it purely came down to preference.  From there, I hit wedge shots with both balls and found the NXT Tour S to perform a little better, but I liked how the NXT Tour responded.  Both balls were easy to control and play different short shots with.  From there, I tested them both out in the 100 to 125 yard range.  Again, I seemed to play softer shots with the NXT Tour S, but I liked the way the NXT Tour felt off of my clubs.

Both the NXT Tour and Tour S will more than hold their own as a good short game golf ball, especially at a price of $33 for a dozen.  If you are Pro V1 loyalist looking to save a few dollars, I would strongly encourage you try both of these balls out and see how they perform for you.

Titleist NXT Tour (3)

Who This Ball is For

Titleist made a pair of arguably some of the most wide-reaching golf balls on the market in the NXT Tour and Tour S .  The price is affordable which makes it an option for more people but the high performance of the ball makes it more appealing to someone that maybe be currently paying more for a high end golf ball.  You don’t have to be an elite golf player to realize the benefits of the NXT Tour and Tour S, but an elite golfer could potentially find these balls to be good enough for their game.

It should come as a shock to no one that Titleist makes a good golf ball.  This is a process they have mastered over the years and they are able to implement high standards and processes to develop their entire range of golf balls.  The NXT Tour and NXT Tour S are far and away my preferred mid-level golf ball, and the lower price tag makes them more appealing to me when it’s time to restock.  Price aside, the NXT Tour and Tour S had the on-course performance which is what counts the most and I would feel totally confident playing an important match with a box of these balls in bag.

Good review. I have been using the NXT Tour S exclusively for a couple of years and find them to be very good value. Not quite the hop-and stop power of a Pro-V, but very playable and controllable with the short irons. They also come in high optic yellow, a boon to people like me who have vision problems and have difficulty tracking white balls in the air and locating them in the rough.

' src=

This review is true to every word. Like the writer of this review I tried both golf balls. The NXT Tour balls performed more lively on long drives whilst the NXT Tour S performed better around the greens. Personally the preference fo me is the NXT Tour ball which feels more solid off the clubs.

' src=

I am considering NXT Tour or S to gain more distance since it has softer compression as compared to ProV1. Am I on the correct course?

' src=

With the modern golf balls, it’s not going to make the difference you’re expecting. It basically comes down making a decision based on what feels the best, what you feel performs the way you want it to, and how much money you want to spend.

I tried Callaway Super Soft 55. It feels soooooo nice off the tee and NO KIDDING, it flies and rolls further

Loved these balls...then... Got out a dozen from last year, and not sure what happened, (no, not stored improperly) but they lost their 'bang' They hard hard as rocks, don't fly, just duds. Gave away what I had left, and told those folks the story. Even had our scratch player hit them, he said the same thing, 'hard, flat sounding' What happened?

Background: I am now playing on a 23 handicap, just retired, but played on a 10 handicap 13 years ago. After researching the NXT Tour-S, I bought a dozen yesterday and tried it today. I hit 2 drives 30 yards more than my best on my regular course, I hit 3 three woods farther than ever, and I hit 5 approach shots that dropped and stopped on very hard greens. Putting distance was very consistent. I am totally convinced that this is the best ball for me (yellow). I will never buy another Pro V1/x or TM Penta again. I believe that this is the best ball for 18 handicappers both in terms of price and performance. This ball is brilliant.

I've used Pro v1's for the last two years (exclusively) and i don't lose many - what i do have is a pile of scuffed and scratched balls with off white covers - resembling a pile of potatoes in my garage that are no good for anything. Chatting to the Pro at the golf course - he suggested that i change to the new NXT tours - saving around £17 a box - he argued that since i play off 15 and my swing speed was average, the NXT was a more natural fit anyway... Two rounds later (82 & 81 - i'm not kidding) i have to agree. The ball flies just a bit longer and a bit straighter than Pro V1's and pretty much stops on the green where it lands with minimum roll- for me this is great i always seem to come up short with the pro V1 (Chicken?) one unexpected bonus is that because the ball goes a touch further - i backed off my swing speed and consequently got much more control.....aahhhhh i get it now!!!! this is what i should have been doing all along. Very Good ball - much cheaper, recommended big time

I have been a long time player of the ProV1 from Titleist. Though I play at a low handicap (3.6), I noticed that the spin that the ProV1 has given me usually ends up further from the hole than closer. On a "whim" I tried a Titleist NXT Tour that I found somewhere on a course. No, the NXT Tour does not give you the control around the green that a ProV1 will give you, but I hit a lot of fairways and GIR, so the spin that the NXT provides me with "drop and stop" control that keeps me a lot more closer to hole throughout my rounds. One more thing, with the ProV1 I would have a tendency to "snap hook" my drive once or twice a round...with the NXT Tour it just gives me a long hook (which I like) or draw. If I want to cut it (fade) it gives me a slight cut, which the ProV1 (due to it's spin ability) would give me a slice. It's a wonderful ball to control and the distance is just as good or better than the ProV1.

None...though Titleist is obviously a reputable company.

ProV1 (it's not a similar product due to it's high spin....the ProV1 is a great ball...just too much spin for my game).

Terrific Ball, Usually went for Srixon Soft Feel or occasionally Z-Star. Considerin Big Darren, made me a tidy sum last weekend, decided to splash out an I was not let down. Very 1st drive smoked 290ish and arrow straight. But its the feel off wedges (my cg14 is made to hit them!) and putter is outstanding, for €25 you cant go wrong.

I received a box of Titleist NXT Tour balls for Christmas and used them this past week at my Golf Club. Wow, was I impressed. I normally hit around 200 - 210 off the tee with Wilson Staff balls, I hit the NXT at an average of 230 yards (not bad for a 57 year old). I even hit a 265 yard downhill drive into the greenside bunker on a very short par 4! They were also very good with my irons, adding about 10 yards on each with great control. Needless to say I'm playing NXT Tour balls from now on!

I've been using these and Top-Flite Gamers for several months, and don't notice a significant difference between the two. The NXT costs 50% more than the Gamer, but seems to perform about the same. Both hold most greens well, checking close to the impact point rather than spinning back (which is what I prefer). Both give good distance off the driver, but the NXT feels a little firmer and may be slightly longer. I think the NXT tends to give more distance off irons. Unfortunately, this golfer isn't consistent enough in ball striking to reach a solid conclusion as to distance. The major difference is that Top-Flite balls carry a stigma that they no longer deserve. If price is paramount in your decision, I would go with the Gamer. I think the NXT is probably a slightly better all-around ball, but not 50% better.

The first one of these puppies I teed up and hit, it went well over 250 yards, which is really good for me since I normally drive others from 220-235 on average with about a 80-90 mph swing speed. Good off the irons with good on the green check up, as well as being quite satisfactory with wedges and putter for me. I really like the Titleist golf balls and use these and Tommy Armour TI-Spins exclusively.

Titleist DT: So/Lo, Wound 90, 2-Piece 90, HP Performance, DT-Distance, and DT-Spin; and Tommy Armour TI-Spin.

Just had a round at my local course with these balls and have to say they are the best all round golf ball I've ever hit. They give a performance not far short of a Pro V1 but are a fraction of the price. They stop very quickly, back spin is not hard to acheive and after 15 holes I had hardly marked the ball at all, even after hitting some hard 8 and 9 irons into the greens. Cant speak highly enough of this ball, I won't be changing from an NXT Tour for a very long time!!!

Titleist NXT Tour - Is it dead?

bolas de golf titleist nxt tour

Last updated Feb 8, 2020

Over the last year or so there have been rumors about Titleist discontinuing production of their NXT Tour balls . In the blog below, we will address this as well as the differences in both NXT versions.

As we are doing these reviews of golf balls we will always remind our wonderful readers the make-up of a golf ball as mentioned below.

Every golf ball differs but normally there are 1-5 pieces of a golf ball

Generally made of synthetic rubber which range from 1 layer – 4 layers. A standard driving range ball has only 1 solid layer whereas Titleist uses an anomeric casing layer to cover their inner core.

Cover Design

The outer cover of the golf ball (what you can visually see) usually made from Surlyn or Urethane materials.

Surlyn is hard and extremely durable which produces less spin and feel but does not scuff very easily (unless of course you hit a tree, cart path, your fellow golfer, etc.)

Urethane is much softer and less durable which will produce more spin and is less durable – after a round of 18 holes you will see minor blemishes or scuffs. (That is if you use the same ball the entire round)

Dimple Design

Dimples are actually a very sophisticated part of the ball. They are critical in reducing wind resistance or aerodynamic drag. Less drag means more distance and more birdies. Dimples almost double the distance compared to a smooth golf ball

Now let's compare NXT Tour vs NXT Tour S

bolas de golf titleist nxt tour

The  NXT Tour golf balls have three pieces and NXT Tour S golf balls have two pieces. The NXT Tour ball deliver longer drives, longer distance, and great stopping short game control. The soft core and cover ensure optimal feel and unmatched performance on the tee and the green. The NXT Tour ball has a lower compression which is great for lower swing speeds because the ball compresses quicker than a high compression ball.

Core : The center of the new dual core is 66% larger, decreasing spin on long game shots and providing longer distance on tee shots and with irons.

bolas de golf titleist nxt tour

Cover System : The Fusablend cover used on NXT Tour provides soft feel and excellent shot stopping control.

bolas de golf titleist nxt tour

Dimple Design: The dimple placement and design depth maximize distance for golfers on every shot. The dimple pattern provides consistent ball flight for golfers in all conditions.

bolas de golf titleist nxt tour

The  NXT Tour golf balls have three pieces and NXT Tour S golf balls have two pieces. The NXT Tour S is a high-performance ball which delivers low driver and iron spin which creates outstanding distance but gives excellent shot stopping ability. The NXT Tour S ball has a lower compression which is great for lower swing speeds because the ball compresses quicker than a high compression ball.

bolas de golf titleist nxt tour

Core : The new core is the softest ever created for NXT Tour S, providing noticeably softer feel and very low spin on your long game shots for great distance.

bolas de golf titleist nxt tour

Cover System : The new Fusablend cover is softer to enhance feel around the green and provide excellent shot stopping control.

bolas de golf titleist nxt tour

Dimple Design: The aerodynamics package on NXT Tour S now has deeper dimple depths to slightly lower the trajectory for maximized distance.

The chart below is a side-by-side summary of the above, for those who like seeing pictures to help make those decisions.

bolas de golf titleist nxt tour

So there you have it. NXT Tour/Tour S are great golf balls and will perform perfectly under pressure (as long as you do) no matter which ball you pick.

Good or bad - Titleist did indeed DISCONTINUE their production of the NXT brand (don't worry we have plenty of inventory for you).

So why would they discontinue these balls and what did they replace them with? We would never leave you hanging, see below for a review of the new ball.

Titleist's NEW Tour Soft Golf Ball

Let's dig in to the details about this new ball. Titleist has always tried to create golf balls that cater to all different types of golfers, handicaps, swing speed, etc. This new ball is no different. They have replaced two top performing balls (NXT/NXT Tour S) with this one ball. Titleist Tour Soft  balls are looking to satisfy the golfers' need through just two layers. With the newly designed ionomer soft cover, which more golfers are asking for, the Titleist Tour Soft ball aims at producing more distance off the tee while still giving soft feel around the green. The previous urethane-cover limits distance off the tee for golfers with lower swing speeds.

Core : Titleist has produced their largest core ever in this ball which gives a responsive feel and high ball speed. Because the ball compresses at lower swing speeds this ball will produce maximum distance for the majority of golfers.

bolas de golf titleist nxt tour

Cover System : The new cover formulation is made of ultra-thin 4CE grafted cover made with propriety Titleist technology. The cover creates advanced short game control and leading soft feel.

bolas de golf titleist nxt tour

Dimple Design : The spherically-tiled 342 cuboctahedron dimple design delivers penetrating trajectory and consistent ball flight.

Well, there you have it, a full review of Titleist NXT Tour golf balls and the NEW Titleist Tour Soft golf ball. Remember the golf ball is the only piece of equipment that you use on EVERY hole and it is critical that you play with a golf ball that suits your game. But do me a favor, don't pay FULL price for new golf balls – give our amazing recovered golf balls a chance and we GUARANTEE you will love them or your money back!

If you have any questions or have tried out the new Titleist Tour Soft, sound off in the comments below. We'd love to hear from you!

How are these balls compared to TP5x? My local range uses NXT Tour balls on their launch monitors but trying to figure out how that differs from what i'm using on the course which is the 5x. Mostly distance is the comparison i'm looking for.

The NXT Tour ball has a harder cover which will give you longer distance off the tee and with your irons but a bit less control around the green (less spin) than the TP5x.

If you like the TP5x but want more distance you can also try the TP5 balls which will give you more distance compared to the TP5x.

Hope this Helps,

How does the Velocity compare to these golf balls? Some say that the Velocity is closer to the NXT Tour than the Tour Soft.

Hey Todd, good question! Both are 2 piece balls, with the velocity you'll get better distance but less control around greens. As far as whether the Velocity is closer to the NXT than Tour Soft, I disagree, but this can be somewhat subjective. If you have a high handicap, Velocity (just like most balls Titleist makes) is an excellent ball. If you want to place an order we'd be happy to send you a sample to try them out.

Titleist NXT Tour, NXT Tour S and Velocity: What you need to know

bolas de golf titleist nxt tour

Golf ball performance means different things to different golfers, which is why Titleist currently offers six different kinds of golf balls at four different price points.

Last January, the company released its new Pro V1 and Pro V1x golf balls ($47.99), designed to create the best-possible performance for golfers from tee to green. They use Titleist’s most expensive constructions, namely the company’s thermoset urethane covers.

In October, the Titleist released its DT TruSoft ($21.99), a two-piece golf ball low on compression and high on affordability. It’s positioned as the company’s softest-feeling golf ball to date.

Occupying the space between is Titleist’s new NXT Tour and NXT Tour S ($34.99) golf balls, as well as its new Velocity ($26.99). Each ball uses a different construction specific for its intended audience.

The NXT Tour, NXT Tour S and Velocity golf balls will be in stores January 28.

NXT_Tour_Dozens_Right_shadow_720x540_72_RGB

  • NXT Tour golf balls target golfers who want performance similar to Titleist’s Pro V1 and Pro V1X, but are more price sensitive.
  • The balls have a three-piece design, which includes a dual-core construction.
  • The inner core of the new balls is softer and 66 percent larger, which will lower spin with a golfer’s woods and irons to help them create more distance. A firmer outer core, along with Titleist’s thin, Fusablend cover, helps golfers retain spin on wedge shots.
  • In Titleist’s 2016 golf ball line, only the Pro V1 and Pro V1X create more greenside spin than the NXT Tour.
  • The NXT Tour golf balls have a spherically-tiled, 302 octahedral dimple design. Compared to the NXT Tour S golf balls, the NXT Tour golf balls will create a higher trajectory that’s similar to the company’s Pro V1X.

NXT_Tour_S_Dozens_left_shadow_720x540_72_RGB

  • The NXT Tour S golf balls ($34.99) have a two-piece design, as well as a compression that’s lower than the NXT Tour to give them a softer feel on all shots.
  • They use a softer-compression core, which will reduce spin on long shots for increased distance, as well as a softer Fusablend cover that maintains the short-game spin of the previous model.
  • Like the NXT Tour, the NXT Tour S golf balls have a spherically-tiled, 302 octahedral dimple design. The balls will create a lower trajectory than the NXT Tour S.
  • The NXT Tour S golf balls are available in both White and High-Optic Yellow.

Velocity_Dozens_Left_DD_shadow_720x540_72_RGB

  • The new Velocity golf balls ($26.99) are longer than past models thanks to a design that uses a larger core and a thinner cover.
  • According to Matt Hogge, director of product implementation for Titleist golf balls, the company added more “fast rubber” to the Velocity’s LSX core, as well as a thinner, NaZ2 cover that together increase ball speed over previous models regardless of what club a golfer is hitting.
  • The increased ball speed not only contributes to more distance, but a higher trajectory that will help golfers stop their shots on the green through a steeper angle of descent.
  • Compared to the NXT Tour and NXT Tour S golf balls, the Velocity golf balls will launch higher and spin less around the greens.
  • The Velocity golf balls use a spherical-tiled, 328 tetrahedral dimple design. They’re available in single-digit numbers (1-4), as well as double-digit numbers (00, 22, 77 and 99) that were chosen by Team Titleist members in a company-run contest.

I think the ‘S’ at the end shouldn’t be there…

I started playing the NXT Tour S ball last year. Love it! Gonna try the High-Optic Yellow color this year. You definitely get what you pay for when it comes to golf balls.

Pro V1’s were just on holiday sale for $39.99 and the annual buy 3 get 1 free deal is about a month or 2 away….so $35 for a dozen NXT’s is hardly price sensitive. That’s probably the worst price point to get after. Crazy to think we’re probably 2-3 years away from NXT reaching the Pro V1 price of a couple years ago.

Spotted: Callaway Paradym Ai Smoke Ti 340 mini driver, DUW fairway wood

bolas de golf titleist nxt tour

We have seen a few new mini drivers from the likes of Titleist and TaylorMade being tested out on tour recently. Now, Callaway looks to be jumping into the mix at the RBC Heritage. We spotted Christian Bezuidenhout testing out a new Paradym Ai Smoke Ti 340 mini driver on the range. We don’t have any details yet but the club clearly states “mini driver” on it, and the “340” could easily refer to how many CCs the head is.

bolas de golf titleist nxt tour

What we do know is that this mini driver has a very similar design to the current Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond 3-wood. The sole looks to be made from steel or titanium, not forged carbon like the Paradym Ai Smoke drivers. It has weights up near the face and at the back of the club. Callaway’s OptiFit hosel is also present on this driver to allow loft and lie adjustments, and if you look closely on the face, you can make out the “Ai Smart Face” text at bottom center. The crown looks to have the familiar carbon fiber weave and Ai Smoke logos we have seen on the current clubs.

The other Callaway prototype that was spotted looked to be a little more of a traditional fairway wood — but with non-traditional weight placements on it. Callaway’s Paradym Ai Smoke DUW looks to have four adjustable weights on it — two on the sole, one on the hosel, and one on the toe. This hosel isn’t adjustable, and I would assume that is to save some weight from creating spots for the movable weights.

bolas de golf titleist nxt tour

It is hard to tell from the photos, but the face looks to be a touch deeper than the traditional Triple Diamond fairways. This deeper face could be where the “DUW” name comes from. With three weights all pushed forward near the face this DUW has to be a very low spinning and launching head. The sole is made from metal and similar in design to the current Paradym Ai Smoke Triple Diamond fairway woods as is the carbon crown.

Titleist NXT Tour Golf Ball Review

bolas de golf titleist nxt tour

If there was a limbo stick on every tee box of a golf course, then what type of golf ball would be best? One that flies low of course. For golfers looking to keep their shots low, look no further than the Titleist NXT Tour Golf Ball.

Titleist Nxt Tour Golf Balls (24 Pack)

The Titleist NXT Tour Golf Ball continues the theme of high quality golf balls from Titleist, but the theme of this golf ball is all about staying low. In terms of ball flight, the golf ball’s dual core is 66% larger than the former model, which keeps ball spin low. Low ball spin equates to lower trajectory and more distance off the tee. Furthermore, the low spin of the Titleist NXT Tour Golf Ball keeps the ball from rolling off of the green on iron shots and improves the ball stopping control.

Our Thoughts

While all golf balls look the same, most are made for specific types of golfers, and the Titleist NXT Tour Golf Ball is no different. While not as popular as the Pro V1, this Titleist creation is as perfect as any, but for a specific type of golfer only. If you are a slow swinging golfer looking for more spin and height on your shots, then look elsewhere. If you are a skilled golfer who likes to squeeze distance out of drives by keeping low flight, or if you have the talent to not want spin to affect your ball placement, then the Titleist NXT Tour Golf Ball is for you.

Titleist NXT Tour and NXT Tour S Golf Ball Review

James Miles

It is clear that the ProV1 and ProV1x are the flagship golf balls of Titleist and as such receive the lion’s share of publicity from the company. However, the NXT lines continue to be a pretty substantially played golf ball by amateurs with their focus on providing distance and short game accuracy in a softer, more price friendly, overall design. This year Titleist is updating both the NXT Tour and NXT Tour S offerings and THP was able to get them in hand for testing.

Information on the new Titleist NXT Tour and NXT Tour S:

The Titleist NXT Tour golf ball is a high performance ball delivering low driver and long iron spin for outstanding distance along with excellent shot stopping control. This advanced multi-component golf ball features a large dual core with a soft center, soft Fusablend cover and spherically tiled 302 octahedral dimple design.

The Titleist NXT Tour S golf ball delivers the same high performance characteristics as NXT Tour with significantly softer feel. This golf ball features a proprietary soft compression, highly resilient core, and, like NXT Tour, utilizes a soft Fusablend cover and a spherically tiled, 302 octahedral dimple design. Available in white and high optic yellow.

Design, Purpose, and Performance:

The NXT Tour and NXT Tour S have specific purposes in terms of filling out the range of offerings for Titleist (despite their push for the ProV’s). Time spent with both designs showed that they very much accomplish what they intended for this reviewer. However, it is key to keep in mind that golf ball performance is definitely one of the most personal equipment aspects out there and will undoubtedly vary from user to user based on their specific needs.

The Titleist NXT Tour is essentially the distance focused option of the NXT lineup and while it is designed as a softer ball compared to other company offerings, it is extremely focused on lower spin in the longer clubs. On the course the NXT Tour was, for this reviewer, the longer of the two designs that THP got in hand and off of the driver was about 350 RPM lower spinning on average. Through the rest of the bag, the ball felt nice off of the face with no harshness to it and also maintained a ball flight on the mid-high to high end of the spectrum. Worth keeping in mind is that with this being a non-urethane covered golf ball, more release was seen compared to the ProV and ProV1, but this should be totally expected.

The Titleist NXT Tour S rounds out the NXT offerings and is focused on an even softer feel than its NXT Tour counterpart while offering a more mid-range overall flight. During testing when hitting the NXT Tour and NXT Tour S side by side the “S” was marginally lower on average in terms of launch and peak height but the overall feel of the ball at impact was the big thing noticed by this reviewer. The Tour S seemed to be more easily compressed while still keeping good overall distance and playability. Like its counterpart, the fact that the design features a non-urethane cover leads to the necessitation to play for a different type of action into the greens (more run-out). It should be kept in mind that as is usually the case with different golf balls, once adjustments were made to the amount of spin produced, there was no issue with hitting a variety of different shots with them.

Parting Thoughts:

Contrary to the emphasis we see by Titleist on the ProV lines being the best for everyone, the NXT Tour and NXT Tour S definitely fill a niche within their lineup. All told, they are extremely playable golf balls for a variety of golfers and although they may not produce the same greenside spin as the ProV, they have the potential to hit the overall needs of many amateurs much better. Moreover, both of the NXT lines are priced at $34.99 and that too should appeal to the needs of many amateur golfers compared to the company’s premium level options.

Titleist NXT Tour Golf Ball: The ProV1’s Affordable Cousin

NXT Tour (2016)

Titleist NXT Tour Golf Ball: The ProV1's Affordable Cousin

Titleist NXT Tour Golf Ball 1

Ball tested: Titleist NXT Tour

Category: Premium

Specs: Construction – Three-piece; Cover – "Fusablend"; Core – Dual (soft inner, firm outer); Dimples / Pattern – 302 in "spherically tiled octahedral" design

Compression: High

Price as tested (new): MSRP—$42 per dozen; widely available for $32 per dozen

Ball notes: Think of Titleist's NXT Tour models (including the Tour S ) as a cheaper alternative to the company's top-of-the-line ProV1 and ProV1x . Titleist doesn't promise identical performance, mind you, just a close enough facsimile to please average to good golfers who balk at the ProV1's $50/dozen price tag.

The NXT Tour is the slightly firmer of the two. It's engineered for low-spin drives, high-spin short irons and commanding short game control. Feel is a big component of the Titleist pitch, too. A perennial favorite of testers, the NXT Tour claimed gold medal status in Golf Digest 's 2013 Hot List rankings.

Sound and feel: Just because Titleist makes a softer version of the NXT Tour doesn't mean the original is a rock. Hardly. Off the clubface, it's quite similar to the ProV1 and other "tour" category offerings. The feel extends throughout the bag, tee to green.

Off the tee: Golfers who lack tour-level clubhead speeds (110+ mph) may well see distance gains with the NXT Tour vs. the ProV1 . They'll definitely see less spin, which equates to straighter shots. This is a very long ball that hangs in the air and doesn't bend a whole lot in either direction.

Titleist NXT Tour Golf Ball 3

From the fairway / rough: Once again, we got great distance from the NXT Tour. Hybrids and longer irons rocketed off the face and provided nice roll on layup shots. For us, spin with the short irons was spot on – not so much that shots ballooned into the wind, but plenty to stop anything on the green within a pace or two of landing.

Around the green: Satisfyingly soft on chips and putts. Ample controllability, though not what you'll get from a tour ball. We've always liked Titleist's AIM (Alignment Integrated Marking) sidestamp, a fancy term for the little arrow that helps line up putts.

Bottom line: A lot of experienced golfers have switched from the ProV1 or other high-performance ball to the NXT Tour, and with good reason. It's typically about $12 cheaper at retail, delivers excellent distance and offers more than enough spin for players in the 7-20+ handicap range. It's a keeper.

Titleist NXT Tour 2016 Golf Ball Review

Titleist NXT Tour 2016 Golf Ball Review

The Titleist NXT Tour retails for $45 a dozen (MSRP) and it's a true all-round performer, very close to the Pro V1 performance-wise, but at a very affordable price. Basically, if you're on the market looking for the best deal, the NXT Tour falls into the “best bang for the buck” category, at least in this writer's opinion. Now, let's take a closer look, shall we? As you can easily deduct from the Tour denomination, this golf ball is aimed at providing you with Tour level performance for your short game with low driver spin . The NXT Tour is built with new compression cores, which are now softer, thus making for a golf ball even softer than the previous generation, and that's pretty amazing.

Now, even if the NXT Tour is softer than ever, Titleist made no compromise in terms of spin and distance around the greens. The NXT Tour is perfectly capable of managing identical amounts of spin (compared to the previous gen) on wedge shots and even less spin off the driver than the Pro V1, which plays in a totally different league price-wise. If you want to play like a pro, at a tour level but without the pain of paying tour-prices, the NXT Tour is an excellent option and it should be very high on your list of golf balls to try. How did Titleist managed to create such a good golf ball at such a cheap price, risking to cannibalize their Pro V1 line? Well, they used state of the art/proprietary technologies, such as the thin Fusblend cover, which helps with the soft-feel, but it's way more resistant to wear and tear compared to the previous models. According to Titleist, the NXT Tour line is bested in terms of performance only by the Pro V1 x and the Pro V1, and that's impressive, to say the least. Speaking of performance, the NXT Tour is a long ball which generates less spin than the “professional” Pro V1 x and Pro V1, and that can be both good or bad, depending upon one's personal preference. The spin level out of the bunker is pretty good and you'll definitely be flabbergasted with the NXT Tour on the putting surface. The ball rolls straight and true, and the shots are struck pure, feeling very similar as a Pro V1; well, not exactly, but very close. Bottom line, the NXT Tour is designed for golfers looking for low spin levels off the driver and high spin on approach shots, and it simply delivers, in a big way.

Titleist NXT Tour 2016 Golf Ball Review

Martin Hopley

The Titleist NXT Tour ball has been around for a while now and the 2016 incarnation offers the usual blend of Titleist performance in a ball with an RRP that is a third less than a Pro V1.

Titleist NXT Tour Golf Ball

For some that might be all the information you need, but as always with golf balls it is not quite that simple as we have found out during our recent golf ball interviews with experts such as Matt Hogge at Titleist .

Taking price out of the equation, what is the 2016 NXT Tour ball delivering this time around?

Titleist NXT Tour Tech

This 3-piece ball has a larger dual centre core and within that, the proportion that is the softer centre is 66% larger than the 2014 NXT Tour.

Titleist NXT Tour Core

By increasing the relative size of the softer core in relation to the firmer outer core Titleist is able to make the 2016 NXT Tour spin less and fly a little lower.

Compare this to the softer NXT Tour S ball and you can see how the core construction changes how the ball feels and performs.

Titleist NXT Tour & NXT Tour S

Softness comes in many forms and one of these can be how the cover feels to you and here the ionomer based Fusablend cover provides that soft feel and features the same 302 dimple pattern as before.

The durability of the NXT Tour cover was very good and, short of an attack with new wedge grooves in a bunker that would have scuffed granite, it stood up well to all I could throw at it in a normal round.

Titleist NXT Tour Golf Ball

Spin and soft feel are very player dependent and in terms of feel, the NXT Tour felt very good around the green and was the closest thing to a Titleist Pro V1 for putting.

On chips the feel was maybe not as sharp as Pro V1 and a touch firmer so, for mid to single figure handicappers this will still give you the playability that you require.

Whether this will be the type of ball for you will probably also depend on your swing speed. As you can see here from my stats on SkyTrak , I am around 96 mph with a driver (on a bad day) and the firmer Pro V1 was better for distance than either the NXT Tour or NXT Tour S golf balls.

Titleist NXT Tour Core

However this is at my swing speed, which is probably a little too high for the slightly softer NXT Tour, so if you are in the 90mph range or below then the distances will probably be very similar.

With a set pitching wedge the NXT Tour flew a little higher and a little longer because, like the ProV1x, it uses height to create a steeper landing angle in order to stop quickly on the green.

This is where that firmer feel and softer compression core can have an advantage over a more premium ball, but then of course you still have to chip and putt with it and that is where your trade-off with the better feeling Pro V1 starts to come in.

If we introduce cost back into that trade-off then for some the NXT Tour will be a perfect Pro V1 alternative. Even though the driver distance might be down a little for faster swingers, the gains in your pocket and with the shorter irons will make the Titleist NXT Tour a great choice.

User Reviews

First time used in competition and first time ever broke 80. Like skelping a bowling ball with the driver and great pace control with putter. Thank you Titleist, as changed to your driver now also from TaylorMade and has been a game changer (4 strokes of handicap in 3 months).

For me Pro v1 spin too much off my driver, around the green and short irons they are great. The pro v1 does have a tendency to balloon ( I am NOT a digger) it does have more to do with the ball construction.

This articles data on distance could could not be more wrong, I really have tested the NXT Tour (not the S) and it is consistently longer by more than 10 yards. We put both balls on an Iron Byron type machine with 20 hits on both balls and found the same results consistently. The results are true to the construction of the both balls - NXT TOUR - designed for less spin (including side spin), gets you significantly more distance, with one bounce and stop. Pro v1 and X model --- much more spin and feel. (But much more chance of side spin and ballooning), with back spin on greens with high stimp metre readings, with the Pro v1x spinning less than pro v1.

NXT Tour is a great bang for the buck, Tour players would not sacrifice any significant scoring by using it. But, the marketing is the player in this game.

The launch velocity and spin is similar so the distance disparity must be the launch angle.

I have been using the NXT Tour exclusively for many years now. Quite frankly you wont get a ball that comes close to it for a mid teen handicap player. Great feel, check up well without that annoying "extra hop" on the green, very acceptable distance from the tee. Honestly, don't pay the extra "Premium" price fro the pro-v balls. If you are around a 10-15 handicap golfer, these top end balls can actually hurt your game. For a good honest, truly, "All Round" ball, you cannot go past the NXT Tour.

Tried the new NXT Tour for the 1st time after winning a dozen at a Texas Scramble event. Flew well from the driver face and produced long straight drives. I play with a power fade when playing well and the slightly lower flight gave me the same carry but a little more roll out on the fairway with good control on mid and short irons. Great ball to putt too. Holed several long putts on very long par 4's which gave me a great score. Nett 68. 5th overall in a Gents Open. Good all round performance and very durable too.

This is a very good ball. The Pro V range can sometimes spin a little too much around the greens but the NXT Tour will check and then roll about a foot or so. Distance off the tee compare similarly to the Pro V range. Faster swing speeds (100mph+) may get a little more distance out of a Pro V1/Pro V1x but over all very little difference.

The NXT Tour is definitely more durable than the Pro V1/Pro V1x as you can easily get a full round in using the same ball compared to a Pro V1/Pro V1x that needs to be changed at least once over the course of 9 holes.

Definitely two very good balls. If you're still unsure buy a sleeve of nxt tour and and sleeve of Pro V1's(or Pro V1x's) and try each for a full round.

Titleist Tour Soft ball replaces NXT lineup with a single ball and its largest core, adds heat to popular Velocity line

Tour Soft white dozen pack FACING LEFT V2.jpg

The Titleist lineup of mid-priced golf balls for 2018, including a refortified Velocity and the Tour Soft, a ball that replaces both the NXT Tour and NXT Tour S all by itself, reflect the company’s established method of developing products based on what various categories of players are seeking.

For its new mid-priced balls, that research says players are interested in distance and feel. What they’re not focused on are the particulars of construction types.

For many golfers, Titleist’s research suggests, it seems the multilayer constructions and urethane vs. ionomer cover materials, amount to not much more than confusion. Give me long distance and soft feel is the consumer’s mantra in the mid-priced ball category, said Michael Fish, Titleist’s golf ball product manager.

“These players want the best performing ball for their budget,” he said, noting that in its research of more than 19,000 golfers who tend to purchase balls in the $30-$40 category Titleist found “a lot of golfers really struggled to know what urethane is.”

Instead, feel without any compromise on distance is what they’re after. “These players equate feel with control,” Fish said.

But while golfers may be straightforward in knowing what they want, getting it to them is anything but. It’s that search for the next combination of feel and distance that led Titleist’s team to develop the new Tour Soft, while trying to add new speed to the distance-oriented Velocity.

With a new cover material, a larger-than-ever core and a fundamental change in the manufacturing process, Tour Soft represents Titleist’s answer to a price category that increasingly includes softer-feeling multilayer urethane covered balls aimed at the average golfer.

But Tour Soft takes a different approach. It looks to go after that golfer with a large-core, two-piece design and new kind of ionomer cover. The aim is to produce more distance off the driver than comparable urethane-cover models, while still producing comparable spin on full wedge shots.

The distance on the Tour Soft is fueled by the largest core on a Titleist ball ever. At 1.60 inches, it surpasses the core on the 2016 NXT Tour S (1.585). Of course, a core that size also results in a very thin cover design, and Titleist says Tour Soft features a cover as thin as many typical urethane-covered balls. The Tour Soft uses a unique combination of four polymers and ionomers to produce the thin cover uniformly over the large core.

“We’d been able to make it in R&D for a few years,” Fish said, noting that making it in mass quantities as a full-fledged product . “Molding any kind of material around a larger core only adds complexity. There’s just less margin for error.”

The new construction also necessitates a new dimple pattern. The 342-dimple cuboctahedron pattern is designed to yield a penetrating trajectory.

The Titleist Tour Soft (available in white and optic yellow) will retail for $35 a dozen, arriving in stores Jan. 24.

Velocity white dozen pack right.jpg

2018 VELOCITY

Like Tour Soft, the 2018 version of the Titleist Velocity grew from player research. Fish said typical Velocity players were looking for more distance and softer feel so the new model features a lower compression core and “a fast, firm cover.” The combination helps to produce lower spin off the driver for better launch conditions.

The 328 tetrahedral dimple design aims to continue Velocity’s proven higher flight and, according to Fish, remains “the highest flying ball in our line.”

The other changes to the 2018 Velocity line also grew from Titleist’s golfer research and they’re likely more visible than any other aspect of the line. They include four color options: white, orange, pink and a new high-visibility white version.

“We’ve seen an increasing preference among golfers in general to play products that they truly identify with and color is a big part of that,” Fish said.

The 2018 Velocity will be in stores Jan. 24 ($27 a dozen).

Titleist NXT Tour Golf Balls Review

Less spin on the wedge means this is a great option for decent golfers playing winter golf.

Solid but lacked feel.

  • RRP £29.00

What we say...

Chris Ryan, PGA professional: “I really struggled to notice much difference between the NXT and the NXT Tour. Less spin on the wedge means this is a great option for decent golfers playing winter golf, when spin isn’t important. Club golfers may be better off with the standard NXT.”

2009, Updated Model – Review

While testing Tour Calibre balls, Mark said that although he liked the two Titleists, he was looking forward to seeing how much response he ‘d lose with a firmer model. With the NXT Tour he still got loads of feel – but with more distance. He carried it 262 yards! Edward thought it was solid but lacked feel.

If you simply can’t afford to play the Pro V1 then Titleist have created the NXT Tour ball designed to offer a blend of distance and short-game performance at a lower price.

The three-piece ball features a large, multi-layer core with a soft centre for low spin and greater distance with the driver and longer irons. But the soft and thin blended cover is designed to impart short-game spin and enhance feel closer to the green without compromising durability. Take this out onto the course to see how it performs for you.

By GolfGhoul

I found one of these nearly new on the course and took to it straight away. It is long of the tee and I get loads of control and spin around the greens. Of the putter only the pro v1 is better and it is much cheaper than the pro v1's so perfect if you feel pro v1's are too expensive but still want a ball which performs pretty much the same way.

5 out of 5 Superb value 19 January 2009

By GrahamWade

Long off the tee, good control around the greens and good feel. Probably a better ball for mid handicappers than Pro V1 and at around £1/ball cheaper a good buy.

Bolas de golf recuperadas Titleist NXT Tour - artículo patrocinado or TuBola.com

Titleist Introduces New NXT Tour and NXT Extreme Golf Balls

Previously, the NXT line featured two balls: the NXT and the NXT Tour. With the 2007 revisions, the NXT Tour has been updated and the plain-old NXT has been updated and re-christened the NXT Extreme. The NXTs occupy the mid-range of golf balls at Titleist: the Pro V1 is a softer, higher-spinning, and more expensive line. The DT So/Lo is for slower swing speeds. The NXTs lean towards offering distance, with a firmer core than the DT and a harder cover than the Pro V1.

Let’s take a look at the changes made to each of the balls.

NXT Extreme

Titleist 2K7 NXT Extreme

The new NXT Extreme is designed for golfers of all levels seeking “Extreme” distance. Titleist says the ball maintains some soft feel and greenside playability. With a soft compression rating, a high-CoR core, and a new higher-coverage dimple pattern with the Staggered Wave Parting Line featured earlier this year on the new Pro V1 and Pro V1x, the new NXT Extreme should deliver longer, more consistent distance with good feel for all types of shots.

The new NXT Extreme has:

  • Improved higher coverage 392 icosahedral multi-dimple design and New Staggered Wave parting line for enhanced aerodynamics.
  • Soft compression and high Coefficient of Restitution (COR) 1.550″ solid core provides high velocity for extreme distance and soft feel.
  • Low spin, Surlyn cover contributes to low spin on all shots for long, straight distance.
  • New A.I.M. (Alignment Integrated Marketing) sidestamp for better putting accuracy.
  • New Extreme White cover color.

Titleist 2K7 NXT Tour

The NXT Tour is designed for slightly better players looking for a good combination of feel and distance. The NXT Tour, unlike the NXT Extreme, is comprised of three layers. Many of the other changes carry over: a tweaked dimple pattern with the Staggered Wave Parting Line, the A.I.M. technology, etc.:

  • New higher coverage, Tour-proven 392 dimple design and new Staggered Wave parting line for enhanced aerodynamics and longer distance.
  • Advanced, 1.580″ core multi-layer construction contributes to superior distance and soft feel on all shots.
  • Soft and thin Fusablend cover provides soft feel and exceptional control into and around the green.
  • New, Tour-validated A.I.M. (Alignment Integrated Marking) sidestamp for better putting accuracy.
  • New Pro White cover color.

Specifications

Availability, Pricing, and Advertising

Titleist has set an MSRP of $40, though the street price for the new NXTs is around $25.99 for the NXT Extreme and $29.99 for the NXT Tour. The balls are available as of yesterday, July 23. Titleist is continuing to promote the new NXTs with actor John Cleese portraying Ian MacCallister and has launched a new website to promote the balls.

It about time that the NXT was improved. It is a great golf ball but with all the technology of the ProV1 I have always thought that it could be taken forward. NXT is a great ball even for better players and well done to titleist for seeing that it needs improving.

I will be definately be playing the new NXT Tour as for me I will not spend £40 on a box of 12 balls.

Noit sure about the advertising campaign!!! Funny but left me thing WTF!!

I glad to hear Titleist has decide to step up the NXT Tour. I played it in the spring but didn’t like it’s spin rate around the green on wedge shots. Does anyone know the spin rate difference of the new NXT compared to the Pro V1x?

I bought a dozen NXT Tour balls and played them this morning. A geat ball, and much improved over the old NXT Tour. I have been playing the Callaway HX Tour ball, but I don’t think the increased cost of the HX Tour over the NXT Tour warrents buying the ball anymore…the NXT Tour ball performs just as well as the HX and might be a little longer. Great Ball!!

I have not seen your So-Lo soft compression balls on the shelves lately. I liked them…..what has replaced them???
