More Parkruns Will Offer The Chance To Try Out Brooks Running Shoes As Partnership Expands
And to celebrate the extension of Brooks's parkrun tour, here’s our selection of the best Brooks running shoes for different types of parkrunners
Brooks has extended and expanded its partnership with parkrun and will now be the global footwear partner of the free weekly 5K running event until 2028. The new partnership will build on the work Brooks has done with parkrun in the UK over the past three years, with the footwear brand focusing on Germany, the Netherlands and the US as its next steps.
It’s good news for parkrunners because the partnership involves Brooks experts attending parkruns to give advice to runners and let them test Brooks products, which include some of the best running shoes available.
There is already a 40-stop parkrun Happy Tour planned in the UK and Ireland, up from 30 in 2022, where people can access the advice and test shoes, and a similar format will come to Germany and the Netherlands.
If you live in the UK or Ireland, keep an eye on the Brooks parkrun page for the chance to register for participating parkruns and plug in your shoe size and preferred model so it’s ready and waiting for you on the day.
With that in mind, we thought we’d celebrate the new deal by highlighting the best Brooks running shoes for different parkrunners, so you know which ones to try if given the chance.
Best for… the speed demon: Brooks Hyperion Tempo
Brooks has a full carbon plate running shoe in its range – the Hyperion Elite – but for 5K the lightweight and speedy Hyperion Tempo will do a grand job of helping you fly around the course. If you’re seeking a sub-20min time, give the Tempo a go.

Best for… the puddle-splasher: Brooks Ghost 15
Parkruns are about having fun and running as a community, so if you embrace that spirit to run your event every week in all weather, you need a workhorse of a shoe. The Ghost 15 is one of the most popular shoes on the planet for a reason, offering a reliable, protective ride and a durable design.

Best for… the long-distance runner: Brooks Glycerin 20
If parkrun is just part of your Saturday run, because 5K is simply not a long enough run to get you out of bed, you need a comfortable cruiser like the Glycerin 20. It’s one of the best cushioned shoes and a go-to option for runners when comfort is the key.
Read more in our Brooks Glycerin 20 review
Best for… the off-roader: Brooks Cascadia 16
If your parkrun eschews the asphalt in favour of more rugged ground, then the Cascadia trail-running shoe will provide the grip you need. It’s also not a bad option in the winter for any parkrun, since many take place on all-weather park paths that get slippery in the cold and wet.

Let`s get social, brooks running announces multi-year global partnership with parkrun.
Last Updated on: 22nd November 2023, 05:00 am
Brooks and parkrun extend existing relationship to increase access to running, walking and volunteering worldwide
Brooks Running, a global leader in performance running gear, tools, and experiences, and parkrun, the largest weekly free community event, are joining forces to break down barriers to physical activity. Brooks and parkrun share a belief in the power of the run to improve lives, both mentally and physically, and encourage people of all backgrounds to participate. As part of this global partnership, Brooks will become parkrun’s exclusive global footwear partner and the presenting partner in the United States, Germany, and the Netherlands through 2028. Together, Brooks and parkrun aim to create an inclusive environment through weekly meetups that welcome walkers, joggers, runners, and volunteers to experience the many benefits of regular physical activity.
The expanded partnership follows a successful three-year collaboration between the two run-focused brands in the UK and Ireland. Going forward, Brooks will continue to play a key role in community meetups as part of the parkrun Happy Tour, which builds on parkrun’s weekly 5Ks for all levels of activity by creating space for runners to get advice, test different running shoes, and engage with Brooks and parkrun communities. In addition to the 40 planned parkrun stops in the UK and Ireland, Brooks will attend parkruns throughout the Netherlands and Germany, with activation plans for the U.S. building on partnership success in Europe. parkrun’s growing community and mission to create a healthier and happier planet aligns with Brooks’ conviction to champion the run for all, allowing both organizations to reach more individuals globally.
“Brooks believes in a world where everyone who wants to run feels welcome and has the place to do it,” said Jim Weber, CEO at Brooks Running. “parkrun’s global presence and shared beliefs make this partnership a meaningful step forward in our efforts to engage people everywhere so all can access and experience the power of the run in their own communities.”
“parkrun is for everyone. We believe that physical activity should be fun and that time outdoors, in the company of others, should be prioritised and celebrated,” said Russ Jefferys, CEO at parkrun. “Brooks’ inclusive community approach and Run Happy ethos fit perfectly with our brand values, and our collaboration will help deliver on our mission to create a healthier and happier planet. We have ambitious plans for further international expansion, and our partnership with Brooks will play a key role in our potential for growth.”
An average of 229,000 people in 20 countries around the world participate in parkruns each week, which in 2022 led to 1.3 million unique parkrun participants and 8 million people registered globally.

Texas Longhorns Lose Starting CB to NCAA Transfer Portal
Texas Longhorns starting corner Terrance Brooks is heading to the NCAA Transfer Portal
- Author: Matt Galatzan
In this story:
The Texas Longhorns just suffered arguably their biggest loss to the NCAA transfer Portal this offseason.
On Tuesday, projected starting cornerback Terrance Brooks announced his intention to enter the portal, potentially leaving a gaping hole on the position heading into the fall.
Brooks is the eighth Longhorn to enter the portal since the beginning of April, joining Derrian Brown, S'Maje Burrell, Billy Walton III, Payton Kirkland, J'Mond Tapp, Zac Swanson, Savion Red, and Ky Woods.

Ricardo B. Brazziell/American-Statesman
I want to thank God, My family, and the Longhorn Nation for everything," Brooks said in a statement on X. "At this time, I will be entering into the transfer portal."
Now, the Longhorns are going to be left in a bit of a quandary at the position overall. Presumably, Malik Muhammad will occupy one spot, while Gavin Holmes could take the other side in replacement of Brooks.
Another scenario could see Muhammad on one side, and either Jaylon Guilbeau or Jahdae Barron occupying the spot left by Brooks' absence with the other staying in the 'star' or nickel spot.
The Longhorns will also still have Austin Jordan waiting in the wings, while Wardell Mack, Kobe Black and other young talents could also help fill the void. Still, it will be a tough loss for Texas.
He also ranked as a five-star recruit, the No. 24 player nationally, the No. 3 cornerback, and the No. 6 player in Texas per On3 coming out of high school.
In his two seasons with the Horns, Brooks appeared in 23 games, starting 19, and made 13 of a possible 14 starts in 2023. In his final season, Brooks tallied 20 tackles, three interceptions and six passes defended, and was named honorable mention All-Big 12 in for his efforts.

Kellie Pickler Returns To Stage For First Time Since Her Husband's Death Last Year
Senior Culture Reporter, HuffPost
Kellie Pickler gave a heartfelt nod to her late husband, Kyle Jacobs , this week as she returned to the concert stage for the first time since his death last year.
The “American Idol” veteran performed at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium Monday night as part of a tribute concert honoring country icon Patsy Cline. She appeared to be in good spirits as she introduced “ The Woman I Am ,” a song she and Jacobs co-wrote for her 2013 album of the same name.
“I’d be lying if I didn’t say I was not incredibly nervous right now. It’s been the first time I’ve been up on stage in a while,” Pickler told the crowd, as seen in a video posted to TikTok by Music Mayhem Magazine. “My husband and I actually wrote this song together, gosh, over a decade ago.”
She went on to note: “The last time I was here in the Ryman Auditorium was with him on a date night, and I know he is here with us tonight.”
Jacobs, 49, was found dead at the Nashville home he and Pickler shared in February of last year. An autopsy later confirmed the Grammy-nominated musician had died by suicide.
A Minnesota native, Jacobs collaborated with Kelly Clarkson, Tim McGraw and other artists, and was perhaps best known as the co-writer of Garth Brooks’ “More Than a Memory,” which in 2007 became the first song to debut at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart. He also co-wrote “American Idol” finalist Kimberly Locke’s 2004 hit, “8th World Wonder.”
He and Pickler were married in 2011. The couple later co-starred on the CMT reality series, “I Love Kellie Pickler.”
Pickler broke her silence on Jacobs’ death in August.
“One of the most beautiful lessons my husband taught me was in a moment of a crisis, if you don’t know what to do, ‘do nothing, just be still,’” she told The Tennessean in a statement at the time. “I have chosen to heed his advice.”
“Thank you to my family, friends, and supporters, for the countless letters, calls, and messages that you have sent my way,” she added. “It has truly touched my soul and it’s helping me get through the darkest time in my life. As many of you have told me, you are all in my prayers.”

With Saudi negotiations stalled, Rory McIlroy potentially returning to PGA Tour board as peacemaker
A plan is in place for Rory McIlroy to rejoin the PGA Tour board, a move that would require the board’s approval and could be viewed as a chance to help improve stalled negotiations with the Saudi financial backers of LIV Golf.
McIlroy resigned from the board in November, saying he felt he could no longer commit the time and energy required with the PGA Tour trying to finalize an agreement with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia.
The deal with PIF was not finalized, and the PGA Tour instead took on Strategic Sports Group, a consortium led by Fenway Sports Group , as a minority investor in a deal that could be worth as much as $3 billion. McIlroy has an affiliation with Fenway through the new TGL team league due to start play in January.

Webb Simpson, one of the six player directors on the PGA Tour board and PGA Tour Enterprises board, has submitted a letter saying that he wants to resign as a player director but only if McIlroy replaces him, according to a person who has seen the letter.
The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Tuesday because the letter was not made public. The board is expected to discuss Simpson’s request as early as Wednesday.
PGA Tour Enterprises is the new commercial entity, though six players serve on both boards.
McIlroy’s resignation in November required the other five player directors — Simpson, Tiger Woods, Patrick Cantlay, Adam Scott, and Peter Malnati — to elect a player to serve out the term through 2024. They chose Jordan Spieth.
Some of those players have been at odds with McIlroy over the last few months because the four-time major champion has changed his tune about LIV Golf, and has suggested LIV players be allowed to return to the PGA Tour without penalty.
Spieth and McIlroy disagreed in February over Spieth’s comments that a deal with PIF was not needed because of the SSG investment, although it would help with unification.
The Simpson case, however, is different. He has not resigned from the board. The person said Simpson’s letter said he would resign if McIlroy could replace him; otherwise, he would stay on the boards.
The person said Simpson indicated the board does not have a European player — five are Americans and Scott is Australian.
The Guardian, which first reported McIlroy’s potential move back to the board, also noted McIlroy has a good relationship with Yasir Al-Rumayyan, the PIF governor.
Al-Rumayyan met with the player directors — he even played nine holes with Woods — in the Bahamas a week after The Players Championship last month. Spieth described that meeting as a chance to talk while figuring out the next step.
There have been no reports of progress since then.
A London financial newspaper, City A.M., reported last week that LIV had offered McIlroy $850 million to join, based on sources it did not identify. McIlroy quickly shot down those rumors and said he would play the PGA Tour “for the rest of my career,” but he also reiterated his hopes that golf could be unified again outside the four majors.
“The game is better when we’re all together,” he said last week at the RBC Heritage.
The hurdle for any kind of a deal has been how to unify the game. Jon Rahm, Brooks Koepka, Bryson DeChambeau, and Dustin Johnson are among players who signed bonuses said to be worth upward of $100 million that led to the divide.
McIlroy said last month at The Players Championship that Al-Rumayyan “wants to do the right thing” for all of golf, and that LIV Commissioner Greg Norman and others have done the PIF leader a disservice.
“So the closer that we can get to Yasir, PIF, and hopefully finalize that investment, I think that will be a really good thing,” McIlroy said.
SSG’s initial investment of $1.5 billion is for a first-of-its-kind equity ownership program. PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan said in a February memo that $750 million in aggregate equity would be granted to 36 players based on career performance, last five-year performance and Player Impact Program results.
Those players are to learn details of how much they receive this week.
