  • Hannah S 0 contributions 5.0 of 5 bubbles Beautiful area of Greece, informative and fascinating tour A great tour that's definately worth going on. The site was extremely impressive and our guide was very informative showing us pictures of what each area would have looked like. The museum was very good too, the guide showed us all of the pieces she referred to on the site tour such as the sphinx statue which was so much bigger than we expected. The lunch stop was in a lovely restaurant with lots of traditional Greek food. One of the nicest parts of this tour was a stop at a viewpoint where you could look out over the landscape and over the nearby town, very very beautiful area. Definately recommend taking this tour. Remember to pack for the weather in Kalambaka as it gets quite chilly inland. Try not to sleep through the ride on the way to Kalambaka as there is no daylight on the way back for the landscape views. Read more Written 23 April 2024

Most of all thanks to the excellent guide! In the very first minute she created an incredible atmosphere (kalamari/kalimera) and conjured Delphi so much that we felt like we were part of ancient times... Every time entertaining and informative, she gave us countless interesting stories not only about ancient times but also about the everyday life of modern Greeks... P.S. And we also met the president of Greece :) and passed the test ;) "Grigoris"/Igor Read more Written 18 April 2024
  • msgtp 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Great local guide The trip from Athens to Meteora is extremely uncomfortable (outside temperature of 30C but bus extremely hot as driver never engaged AC). Once you survive the trip up the local guides are wonderful, personable and knowledgeable. The monasteries are amazing! The rock formations extremely impressive. Ride back to Athens unremarkable because sleep is the order of the evening/night. Very good trip but could be great with a tweak to procedure on the ride from Athens to Meteora. We loved our meal at the restaurant, great food and the hosts were lovely. It's a fair drive out as your going into the valley between the mountains, but the views are STUNNING! And our awesome tour guide Kostas made the drive go by quickly with stories of Greek Mythology, local history and made the tour through the ruins very immersive. A true credit to the tour operator! • heloisej624 0 contributions 4.0 of 5 bubbles Nice Tour! Good experience!! The tour was super nice!! I wish we were able to have a bit more time on each Island though. We spent 1 hour in Hydra, 40 minutes in Poros and 2 hours in Aegina. Especially for Poros 40 minutes wasn't enough time since most of the things to do there were about a 20 minute walk away. There seemed to be a bit more to do and see in Poros than Hydra so I would've rather we had more time in Poros than Hydra. The cruise company offered optional guided tours at an additional cost in Hydra and Aegina. There was a walking tour in Hydra and two different bus tours in Aegina (one historical tour and one Panoramic tour). We didn't opt for the tour of Hydra but we did do the one in Aegina. The tour of Aegina was helpful because since we were on a bus we were able to visit historical locations we wouldn't have been able to get to otherwise. The tour company offered a discounted student rate for tickets and historical tours in both English and Japanese (I'm not sure if Japanese is standard or if this was due to the languages spoken on board). The food onboard was very good, my friend and I are vegetarian and there were a lot of options for us (pasta, chickpeas, rice, potatoes, salad!) However, the listing that we booked off of said that soft drinks were included with our ticket and they were not. There were also alcoholic drinks available on board for purchase at reasonable prices. Overall a nice experience but I wish we had more time on some of the islands! Read more Written 25 March 2024

  • Klairane G 0 contributions 3.0 of 5 bubbles Great to see many islands at once Overall I had a good time. This was a great way to squeeze in different islands if you’re doing a week or less trip to Greece. Like another reviewer said, you do spend a lot of time on the boat. But to make up for it, I would’ve loved to spend more time on the islands. Personally more time on Hydra (1 hour) and Poros (40 min) would have gotten a higher review from me. Aegina is beautiful as well, but not much to do (we spent 1 and a half hours there). In total I spent $170 for this tour which included the shuttle pickup and drop off from my hotel and a buffet lunch. The lunch wasn’t spectacular but it will do if you’re hungry. I paid extra fees for breakfast and drinks on the boat (extra $20) I feel like it would’ve been worth the money spent if some island tours were included. Even if it were no major tours. All the island excursions were an extra charge of $50+. Read more Written 28 February 2024

I would just like to say that your tour guide Angeliki who took us to Myceane, Epidaurus & Nafplio last Thursday ( 22.2.2023 - I booked through ADRIANOS TRAVEL ) was very good and dedicated ! She gave us lots of info, had a powerful presence, moved at the right pace, took care of us and also gave us a bit of insight into the current state of a greek life ! Her english is also very good so everything was perfectly clear. I mean that honestly as comoliment without patronzing. Because I am the kind of person who wants to hear and understand everything ( also a bit of damaged hearing ). I think she is very good and you can see the experience and passion and love she has for Greece ! That is what makes a great tour guide ! Please forward this email to her and to your bosses. I do not know where else to send this. Can you do that for me , please ? Thank you so much ! GREETINGS FROM ZAGREB, CROATIA ☆ Ivana Read more Written 27 February 2024

By the numbers: Statistics confirm Scottie Scheffler's historical dominance

Change Text Size

Is impending fatherhood the only thing stopping Scottie Scheffler? Quite possibly.

His historic run continued Monday when he completed his victory at the RBC Heritage. It was his fourth win in his past five starts, a run that also included victories at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, THE PLAYERS Championship and the Masters. The only exception was a runner-up finish at the Texas Children’s Houston Open, where he missed a 6-footer to join Stephan Jaeger in a playoff.

Scottie Scheffler’s Round 4 highlights From RBC Heritage

Scheffler has seemed invincible lately, and the statistics confirm that. Here’s a closer look at some of the key stats that put Scheffler’s historic play into perspective:

  • By winning at Harbour Town Golf Links, Scheffler became the first player since Bernhard Langer in 1985 to win the RBC Heritage one week after winning the Masters .
  • Scheffler is the first player since Tiger Woods in 2006 to win the week after winning a major .
  • With four wins and a runner-up in his past five starts, Scheffler is the first player since Woods in 2007-08 to have five consecutive top-two finishes . Vijay Singh is the only other player to have such a run in the past 30 years (2004).
  • This was Scheffler’s 10th PGA TOUR victory, coming in just his 51st start since he earned his first win at the 2022 WM Phoenix Open. Only David Duval has needed fewer starts after his first win to reach victory No. 10. Duval did it in 33 starts. Tiger Woods is third on the list with 59 starts.
  • In his 51 starts since the 2022 WM Phoenix Open, Scheffler also has 23 top-three finishes (45%) and 35 top-10s (68.6%).
  • All 10 of Scheffler’s wins have come since the start of the 2021-22 season. He is the first player to win 10 (or more) times on the PGA TOUR in the span of three seasons since Dustin Johnson won 10 titles between 2015-16 and 2017-18.
  • This is Scheffler’s fourth win of the season, matching his career-high from 2022. He is the fourth player with multiple four-win seasons since the start of 2000 , joining Woods (10), Singh, (3) and Phil Mickelson (2).
  • Scheffler has now recorded 40 consecutive TOUR rounds at par or better , a streak that began in the final round of the 2023 TOUR Championship. He’s 12 back of Woods’ all-time TOUR mark of 52 straight rounds at par or better (set across 2000-01).
  • In each of Scheffler’s last seven victories, eight or more of the top 10 players in the Official World Golf Ranking have been in the field . His most recent run of four wins in five starts has included two Signature Events (Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, RBC Heritage), THE PLAYERS and the Masters.
  • Scheffler is averaging 5.38 birdies per round this season, on pace to set the all-time TOUR record for single-season birdie average (since the statistic was first tracked in 1980) . Woods set the current record (4.92) in 2020.
  • In his 39 rounds this season, he has outperformed the field average 35 times . He’s been at least a shot better than the field 30 times, at least two shots better 26 times and at least three shots better 19 times.
  • Scheffler leads the TOUR in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green by nearly a shot per round this season , after finishing atop the category by more than two-thirds of a stroke per round last season. No player had previously led the category by more than four-tenths of a stroke per round since Woods in 2009.

15 Most Anticipated Romance Books Coming Out The Rest Of 2024

  • There are many exciting romance books to look forward to in 2024, some of which hail from well-known authors in the genre.
  • Some of this year's romance releases continue popular series, giving readers even more content set in worlds they love.
  • From sports romances to foodie love stories, there's something for everyone in this year's romance lineup.

Many gripping romance books are hitting shelves in 2024, and these new releases feature tropes and pairings for every type of reader . 2024 is an exciting year for romance releases, and a number of hits have already debuted. From Abby Jiminez's Just for the Summer to Emily Henry's Funny Story, this year's romance reads are off to a strong start — and some of the most-anticipated releases haven't come out yet.

Beloved authors like Christina Henry and Tessa Bailey have new books debuting later this year, and they aren't the only well-known names dropping new stories. It seems there is no shortage of romance books hitting shelves during the remainder of 2024, and many of them feature beloved tropes. From sports romances to foodie love stories, there's truly something for everyone. If 2024 does nothing else, it proves that it's a great time to be a romance reader .

11 Most Anticipated Thriller Books Coming Out The Rest Of 2024

This summer will be different by carley fortune, release date: may 7, 2024.

Carley Fortune wowed readers with Every Summer After and Meet Me at the Lake, and she's returning in May with another romance that's perfect for summer reading: This Summer Will Be Different . This novel will follow Lucy, who ventures to Prince Edward Island every summer with her best friend, Bridget. There, she usually finds herself falling into the arms of a local named Felix. This is despite Lucy's best efforts to stay away — or at least to avoid getting too emotionally invested. Add in the fact that Felix is Bridget's brother, and the whole situation is a recipe for disaster.

It's also the perfect setup for a tense romance novel, especially for readers who enjoy a forbidden relationship. It seems inevitable that Lucy and Felix will fall for each other, but Fortune's latest promises plenty of drama before they (hopefully) get together. For this reason, This Summer Will Be Different has the potential to hook readers from cover to cover . It's a must-read, especially after Every Summer After.

Lavash At First Sight By Taleen Voskuni

Taleen Voskuni's Lavash at First Sight is getting positive Goodreads reviews ahead of its May 2024 release, and with any luck, this new romance book will be as alluring as its cover. Lavash at First Sight opens with Nazeli “Ellie” Gregorian agreeing to leverage her tech marketing skills to promote her parents' company at a food-packaging conference dubbed PakCon. It's there that Ellie meets Vanya, a fellow Armenian from the Bay Area. The duo instantly hit it off, but Vanya just so happens to be the daughter of Ellie's parents' biggest business rivals . Cue the drama.

With a forbidden LGBTQ+ romance at its core and a prominent focus on culture and food, Lavash at First Sight sounds like it could be among the biggest romance releases of 2024 . It certainly has all the ingredients to succeed. Given it's already getting positive feedback, it seems like a can't-miss release of the spring 2024 season.

The Paradise Problem By Christina Lauren

Release date: may 14, 2024.

Best-selling romance author duo Christina Lauren is releasing two books in 2024 , and the first is The Paradise Problem. Hitting shelves on May 14, The Paradise Problem has a unique premise that promises an all-around fun story with the fake-dating trope at its core. The Paradise Problem will see Anna and Liam pretending to be together in order to receive an inheritance from his grandfather. The two already got married in college to secure UCLA housing for Anna. They promptly got divorced when they graduated, but they must put on a performance all over again to secure Liam's inheritance money.

Lauren's first 2024 release sounds like the perfect story for fans of the fake-dating trope, and it promises to be a solid addition to her already impressive lineup.

As readers can guess, the line will start to blur between what's real and what isn't, pushing Liam and Anna to ask themselves some difficult questions about their marriage story. Christina Lauren's first 2024 release sounds like the perfect story for fans of the fake-dating trope, and it promises to be a solid addition to the authors' already impressive lineup. Hopefully, the book itself is as compelling as the synopsis.

The Dixon Rule By Elle Kennedy

Elle Kennedy gets a lot of attention for her hockey romances, and the author is continuing her Campus Diaries series with The Dixon Rule in 2024 . The second installment in this series, The Dixon Rule will follow the endlessly busy Diana as she navigates her long to-do list and a fake romance. She agrees to help Shane — the hockey player hooking up with most of her cheerleading squad — make his ex-girlfriend jealous by faking a relationship. This brings up some of her own hang-ups about past relationships. And it also sparks feelings between Diana and Shane.

If Kennedy's latest is anything like the rest of her romance books, The Dixon Rule is poised to be a hugely popular release come May 14 . A hockey romance that uses the fake-dating trope will no doubt appeal to many romance readers. Plus, The Graham Effect 's success bodes well for its sequel novel.

Leather & Lark By Brynne Weaver

Release date: june 4, 2024.

Dark romance novel Butcher & Blackbird took BookTok by storm in 2023, and the second book in Brynne Weaver's Ruinous Love Trilogy hits shelves in 2024 . Titled Leather & Lark, the second installment will see Lachlan Kane trying to secure his freedom from contract killing while working at his leather shop. After messing up one of his jobs, his only hope of breaking free is to track down a killer for Lark Montague — and to marry her. The two hate one another, but their fake marriage benefits their goals. And it's probably inevitable that they'll catch real feelings working together.

Weaver's series isn't for every romance reader, but anyone who enjoys dark romance should give it a try.

Leather & Lark blends popular romance tropes and a dark underworld in much the same way Butcher and Blackbird does. With that in mind, it's just as likely to find success with the right audience. Weaver's series isn't for every romance reader, but anyone who enjoys dark romance should give it a try. Leather & Lark promises to be heavily discussed upon its June release , and its sequel will no doubt stir up excitement as well.

Not In Love By Ali Hazelwood

Release date: june 11, 2024.

Ali Hazelwood released Bride earlier in 2024, and she's following that with her June release, Not in Love . Blending the world of science and romance, Not in Love tells the story of biotech engineer Rue Siebert and Eli Killgore, the man hoping to buy the company she works at. This doesn't start their relationship on a great note, but Eli wants Rue as much as he and his partners want the company. Unfortunately, she's " off-limits ." That's why the two start a secret romance that must conclude when the fight for the business is over. That's assuming they can avoid getting in too deep.

Hazelwood rarely disappoints, so readers can expect another gripping romance from the author in this much-anticipated June release.

Judging by the synopsis for Not in Love, it sounds like they won't be able to prevent more intense feelings from surfacing. It'll be thrilling to see how the battle for Kline unfolds — and how it impacts their relationship. Hazelwood rarely disappoints, so readers can expect another gripping romance from the author in this much-anticipated June release.

The Rom-Commers By Katherine Center

While Hazelwood combines science and romance in her 2024 release, Katherine Center is blending a career in the arts with a love story in The Rom-Commers . Slated to hit shelves on June 11, The Rom-Commers will follow aspiring screenwriter Emma Wheeler as she pursues an opportunity to re-write a script for her idol, Charlie Yates. Unfortunately, Charlie isn't quite what she expects. He has little interest in collaborating with Emma, and he doesn't respect rom-coms, something Emma just can't understand.

In her efforts to convince him of her talent — and that love exists — Emma winds up developing feelings for Charlie. This Hollywood romance sounds incredibly compelling, especially for fans of rom-com movies and books. A fun take on the genre, The Rom-Commers is poised to deliver an entertaining narrative with hints of the enemies-to-lovers trope. It's a must-read summer 2024 release.

The Art Of Catching Feelings By Alicia Thompson

Release date: june 18, 2024.

Alicia Thompson's The Art of Catching Feelings is coming out in June , and this book release puts a fun spin on the typical sports romance. The novel opens when Daphne Brink attends a baseball game to get her mind off her divorce — even though she's not all that into the sport. While at the game, Daphne heckles player Chris Kepler. After she makes him cry, she messages Chris on social media, intent on apologizing for her behavior. However, she fails to reveal that she's the one who made him cry. And this secret gets more overwhelming as they strike up a relationship.

While hockey romances are all the rage, The Art of Catching Feelings could make a case for more baseball romances.

Daphne's predicament sounds tense and entertaining, and it's just the sort of conflict that makes a good romance novel worth reading. Add in The Art of Catching Feelings' stunning cover, and Thompson's latest is a can't-miss addition to 2024's new releases. While hockey romances are all the rage, The Art of Catching Feelings could make a case for more baseball romances .

A Novel Love Story By Ashley Poston

Release date: june 25, 2024.

Best-selling author Ashley Poston is releasing a new romance book in 2024, and A Novel Love Story sounds like the perfect read for anyone who appreciates the power of fiction . Poston's latest follows Eileen Merriweather, an avid reader whose car breaks down on the way to her book club. She finds herself transported to the world of her favorite romance novels, and she's tasked with finding out why. Judging by the synopsis, it's because she's meant to find the other person who doesn't belong in the fictional town of Eloraton: a prickly bookstore owner whose fate is wrapped up with hers.

A romance novel that puts a fun spin on its own genre, A Novel Love Story is among the most unique releases hitting shelves in 2024.

A romance novel that puts a fun spin on its own genre, A Novel Love Story is among the most unique releases hitting shelves in 2024. It's worth picking up, especially if it's as good as Poston's 2023 novel, The Seven Year Slip. Judging by its earliest Goodreads reviews, it might be. Readers will definitely want to keep an eye out for this one come June.

Tangled Up In You By Christina Lauren

Christina Lauren's second 2024 release, Tangled Up In You, arrives on June 25 — and it promises to be another magical addition to the Meant to Be series . Pitched as a contemporary take on Disney's Tangled , Tangled Up In You tells the love story of Ren and Fitz. Ren has lived on a homestead for most of her life, with her experiences mostly limited to books. Meanwhile, Fitz has his whole life planned out from Corona College onward. But when their paths cross at Corona College, the two find themselves on a road trip that will take them both to unexpected places.

The latest addition to the Meant to Be series promises to be every bit as fun as the first three books.

Ren and Fitz both sound like fascinating characters in their own right, so there's little doubt their romance will be a compelling one in Tangled Up in You. The latest addition to the Meant to Be series promises to be every bit as fun as the first three books. Christina Lauren knows how to craft a love story , so any high hopes for this release are warranted.

Business Casual By B.K. Borison

The fourth book in B.K. Borison's Lovelight series hits shelves in June, and Business Casual boasts a gorgeous cover and intriguing premise all at once . Borison's latest follows Nova Porter, a tattoo artist who doesn't want a relationship — a fact that makes her attraction to investment banker Charlie Milford that much more complicated. Nova and Charlie attempt to curb their attraction with a one-night stand, hoping this will bring an end to their flirtations. Of course, it doesn't — and being in a small town makes it so that they'll have to deal with the aftermath of their actions.

Business Casual sounds perfect for readers who enjoy small-town settings and reluctant relationships. Nova and Charlie sound like the definition of opposites attract, and that just makes their story more intriguing. It'll be fun to see how they attempt to curb their feelings for one another. And their efforts will make it all the more satisfying when they finally get together.

The Game Changer By Lana Ferguson

Release date: july 9, 2024.

Lana Ferguson is releasing a hockey romance in July 2024 , and The Game Changer promises sugar and spice. The sugar comes from the book's heroine, Delilah Baker, whose baking skills are true to her name. She's even got her own TV show — but its viewership numbers aren't looking good when the book opens. She decides to collaborate with her brother's hockey team, which has taken a hit because of a player's highly publicized break-up. The player in question is Ian Chase, and Delilah's had a crush on him for a long time.

With a fascinating narrative that's perfect for foodies and sports fans alike, The Game Changer could be the next big hockey romance hitting shelves.

Needless to say, Delilah and Ian gain more than good publicity when they start working together. But they'll have to decide whether they want to take their romance to the next level or risk another PR nightmare. With a fascinating narrative that's perfect for foodies and sports fans alike, The Game Changer could be the next big hockey romance hitting shelves. Fans of the subgenre won't want to miss out on its summer release.

The Au Pair Affair By Tessa Bailey

Release date: july 15, 2024.

Tessa Bailey is a go-to romance author, and she's continuing her Big Shots series in 2024 with The Au Pair Affair . The series started with Fangirl Down earlier this year, and if the first book is anything to judge by, its follow-up will be another hit. The Au Pair Affair sees single dad and hockey player Burgess falling for his live-in nanny, Tallulah. Despite their undeniable feelings for one another, the two try to refrain from an inappropriate relationship. Seasoned romance readers can guess how well that goes — but their efforts do set up a tense and steamy narrative.

With a bit of hockey and a bit of forbidden romance, The Au Pair Affair sounds poised to break readers' hearts and put them back together . Given Bailey's popularity, it's one of the biggest romance releases hitting shelves this summer. And it may not be the last of Bailey's Big Shots books, though only time will tell where she takes the series from here.

The Pairing By Casey McQuiston

Release date: august 6, 2024.

Casey McQuiston is known for Red, White & Royal Blue and One Last Stop , and the author is back with another LGBTQ+ romance that stands out for its unique premise . McQuiston has a knack for coming up with narratives that blend compelling couples with intriguing plots, and The Pairing promises to continue that trend. The book follows Theo and Kit, two exes who have a gnarly break-up on their way to Europe. Years later, as the tickets for their food and wine tour are about to expire, both Theo and Kit decide to take the trip solo.

McQuiston has a knack for coming up with narratives that blend compelling couples with intriguing plots, and The Pairing promises to continue that trend.

Naturally, this choice brings them back together — and the two have changed significantly during their time away from one another. Still, their feelings for each other linger. And not even seeing who can have the most European hook-ups can push away the fact that they may not be over each other. The Pairing sounds simultaneously heartbreaking and fun , and knowing McQuiston, those are exactly the emotions readers will be feeling when they pick this book up.

A Legend In The Baking By Jamie Wesley

Release date: november 19, 2024.

Foodie romances are always a good time, and Jamie Wesley's Fake It Till You Bake It series proves it. Fake It Till You Bake It was an entertaining read in 2022, and its 2024 follow-up is already getting the Goodreads reviews to suggest it's a can't-miss release . Titled A Legend in the Baking, the second installment follows August Hodges, a football player who accidentally goes viral with a rant about feminism and baking. August and his partners decide to use the opportunity to promote their company, Sugar Blitz Cupcakes. And they enlist social media manager Sloane Dell to help.

August and Sloane have a bit of history, but the two decide to ignore those old feelings in order to push their careers forward. When they start spending time together, it becomes obvious that this won't be easy to do. Their romance promises to be as sweet as the cupcakes all over the book's cover. A Legend in the Baking sounds like a sweet 2024 romance release in more ways than one.

Students stand in front of podium at Pentagon press briefing room.

Title: GU Politics Spring 2024 Fellows Take Hoyas to the Rooms Where It All Happens

Throughout the semester, our Spring 2024 GU Politics Fellows engaged with Georgetown students in weekly discussions about democracy, leadership, partisanship and global affairs. The Fellows pulled back the curtain on some of the most important processes and decisions in the nation’s capital, and students also got the opportunity to go beyond the Living Room on trips to some of the most important places in DC. From the Pentagon, to Capitol Hill and the White House, Fellows facilitated exciting field trips and one-of-a-kind conversations with leaders, policymakers and senior practitioners.

In addition to spending his semester talking to students about war, politics and international affairs, Dan Lamothe took students to the Pentagon to witness the inner workings of the U.S. Department of Defense. Students had the opportunity to meet with the Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary and tour the historic building.

The trip was a behind-the-scenes look at how the government interacts with the press in this important setting. Students got to visit where Pentagon staff tracks news and holds briefings.

Luke Hughes (SFS‘27) said, “Sabrina Singh, the Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary, talked to us students about how her job entails relaying the administration’s vision, messages, and policy in a way that ordinary citizens can understand.”

“It was a deeper look into how our government and military decide on how to make decisions and then communicate those decisions to the wider public,” added Luke Castro (C’27).

Castro reflected on experiencing the inner workings of such a significant place. “It demystified the Pentagon to me and made the people whose reports I read in the newspaper real,” he said.

Lawmaking in Action

Former U.S. Representative Val Demings returned to the U.S. Capitol, bringing students along to see lawmaking in action. Students visited the House Gallery and had the opportunity to meet House Minority Leader, Representative Hakeem Jeffries.

“Never did I expect to see the political process up close and personal like I did with my discussion group and Rep. Demings,” Lukas Pitman (SFS‘27) said.

Students had an inside look at Congress, getting the chance to learn about what really happens on the House floor.

“We had the opportunity to watch the House in action from a special section of the Gallery while Rep. Demings and another representative, Maxwell Frost, explained in real-time to us the political maneuverings happening right below,” Pitman explained.

Students then heard Rep. Hakeem Jeffries talk about his journey in politics and his experience as a leader in Congress. Students also had the opportunity to ask Jeffries questions.

“Our meeting and discussion with Leader Hakeem Jeffries was surreal,” Christopher Pitt (C‘24) said. “Not only was I able to hear about his journey in law and in politics, I had the opportunity to ask a question of my own and shake his hand!”

The trip served as an expansion of the topics that Demings brought forth to her discussion groups throughout the semester.

“Bipartisan collaboration, in addition to the future of the Democratic party, were issues that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries spoke to our team about in a personalized meeting,” Isabela McNeilly-Anta (SFS‘27) said.

Jason Goodman (MPP/MBA ‘26) said, “Visiting the Capitol yesterday was truly an incredible, once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I am very grateful to Rep. Demings and GU Politics for the opportunity.”

Behind the Scenes

In February, Machalagh Carr also brought her discussion out of the Living Room and to the Hill to pull back the curtain on politics and the Constitution, offering students a special look at the topics her group has been engaging with in her discussion group. Students joined Machalagh for the opportunity to tour the historic U.S. Capitol building and meet with House of Representatives staffers.

“[Machalagh] shared many fun stories and secrets of the building, including some things she experienced while working there. We got to meet many amazing staffers during the tour and I walked away with greater knowledge of the traditions of the GOP and Speaker’s office,” Katelyn Rickert (C‘24) said.

Hughes also thought it was valuable to learn about Machalach’s experience working for the House of Representatives. “Hearing from Machalagah herself about day-to-day operations of the House of Representatives while sitting in the gallery was an experience I‘ll never forget!” Hughes said.

Marc Short brought his Student Strategy Team for an especially unique view of DC – a tour of the Capitol Dome.

“Touring the Dome was a unique experience that allowed us to see the Capitol from a completely different perspective,” Catherine McGuire (SFS‘26) said.

“Seeing the stunning artwork and architecture of the Dome up close was amazing,” said Meggy Mani (C‘27). “And the fascinating history and information our tour guide gave us just enhanced the experience further,” she added.

Michael Scime (C‘27) reflected on the impact of seeing the city from this exciting vantage point. “Standing at the top of the dome, looking across the National Mall to the Washington Monument, everything we had talked about in the discussion groups suddenly came into focus,” Scime said.

Seeing the Room Where It Happens

Having brought his own White House experience to engaging discussions with students this spring, Marc Short also brought students to the West Wing for a tour and the opportunity to hear from White House staff.

“Seeing the Oval Office, Rose Garden, the Press Briefing Room and so much more with the expert guidance of a career White House Staffer gave us incredible insight into the places we so often imagine,” McGuire said.

“I almost couldn’t believe I was actually in these places I’ve seen on my TV or phone screen so many times, “ Mani said of getting to tour the important space. “Our tour guide was a great host who taught us so much about the history of the West Wing as well as the day-to-day operations,” she added.

“To be in the rooms where it happens – the Oval Office, Rose Garden, Cabinet Room, Press Briefing room and so many more – was surreal,” Scime said.

Laura Barrón-López also took students to the White House where they were able to hear from the White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates. This experience expanded on a semester of discussions about threats to democracy and the polarizing rhetoric used in the media.

“It was incredibly interesting getting to speak with the Deputy Press Secretary and learning about the day-to-day of his role,” Anaís López (MPP ‘24) said. “As someone interested in the relationship with the press and the Executive, I found the conversation to be very insightful and educational.”

GU Politics students expressed gratitude to Spring 2024 Fellows for an exciting and engaging semester. Building on weekly off-the-record conversations, field trips allowed students to gain a deeper insight into political processes and pressing policy topics of the day.

“These are the types of opportunities and situations that our Fellows bring to campus. Not only do they teach you about leadership, but they bring you in the room with the leaders actually making the policy decisions,” Pitman said.

“For me, this opportunity is just one of the many ways that the McCourt School, and GU Politics, makes the most of being in D.C.” McNeilly-Anta said. “Can’t wait to see what next year’s [Fellows class] brings!”

New Delhi [India], April 24 (ANI): Recognising market demand, the Moscow City Tourism Committee organized a conference for representatives of the Indian MICE industry, to introduce them to the tourism strengths of the Russian capital.

MICE stands for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions, and is a type of tourism in which large groups, usually plan things well in advance.

The event took place on April 19 in Delhi and brought together over 100 participants from MICE agencies of both countries, corporate customers, representatives of the travel industry in Moscow, Aeroflot and the Indian branches of Sberbank.

Business tourism is one of the most promising directions for Moscow.

In 2023, the capital was visited by 3.7 million business tourists – 7 per cent more than in 2022. And India remains one of the leaders among visitors from non-CIS countries in terms of the number of business travellers.

“The Russian capital as a centre of business tourism and corporate events is already an established and a strong brand in the international arena,” commented Anastasia Popova, Deputy General Director for International and Industry Cooperation of Project Office for the Development of Tourism and Hospitality in Moscow.

“Now our task is to demonstrate to our Indian partners all the possibilities of organizing high-value MICE events in Moscow in combination with already proven tourist programs,” said Popova.

At the Shaping MICE Future Conference, industry experts from Russia and India pronounced statements and speeches on the future of MICE events in these two countries, a presentation of the MICE potential of Moscow was showcased, and an analytical report on the state of the outbound MICE market in India was presented to the visitors.

During the panel discussion, participants assessed the current status and interaction peculiarities with the MICE market in India and developed recommendations for the MICE industry in Moscow during the general brainstorming session.

Representatives of the Indian MICE industry participated in B2B negotiations to find new cross-partners in the Moscow business environment and among representatives of the hospitality industry.

Representatives of the MICE industry took part in the event from Moscow.

Among them were DMC (Grand Rus, Academservice, Headed Goose, Satguru Travel, Isba Rus, Hug the Bear, Mellenium Group) as well as representatives of other partners interested in the development of MICE cooperation between Russia and India: Global transfers provider i’way and hotels Edge Seligerskaya and Edge Vinogradovo Moscow by Rotana.

“In 2024, we have witnessed a significant surge (more than quadruple) in the demand for transfers by Russians visiting India, both for business and leisure purposes. Muscovites are leading the trend, with 80 per cent of transfer bookings originating from the capital since the beginning of the year. Additionally, we observe a growing interest from Indian tourism agencies in exploring Russia, resulting in a substantial increase in our collaboration,” commented Dmitriy Saraykin, co-founder of Global Transfer Provider i’way.

The Shaping MICE Future conference allowed the Moscow City Tourism Committee to form a pool of MICE industry representatives in Moscow to prioritize incoming requests for events and clarify India’s requirements for business and corporate events to build mutually effective work. Indian colleagues received up-to-date information about Moscow as a safe and attractive MICE destination and were able to find potential partners among representatives of the MICE industry of the Russian capital and were able to present the MICE market in India.

“The event served as a remarkable platform for fostering meaningful dialogue and collaboration within the tourism industry. The event provided us with invaluable opportunities to engage with key stakeholders from the tourism department, as well as tour operators and service providers. The insights gained during the event underscored the Moscow City Tourism Committee’s keen interest in the Indian outbound market, and we are optimistic about the promising prospects for Moscow as a destination, particularly in the post-pandemic landscape. We firmly believe that with concerted efforts and strategic initiatives, Moscow has the potential to emerge as a top-choice destination for Indian tourists,” said Mudit Mathur, director of Tours Delite India, representing Academ Service – Russia in India.

The conference also assessed the solutions to foreign demand for non-standard venues and elements in MICE programs, such as museums, parks, theaters and others. Holding MICE events at offbeat locations, such as the State Historical Museum, the Moscow Planetarium and Khudozhestvenny Cinema, is becoming popular.

This helps to attract conference organizers and creates a unique experience for the participants. Working in this format, many visitors who come to Moscow on a business trip want to return with their families and spend time as regular tourists. (ANI)
