You have a multi-city, multi-country European vacation in mind for your next dream getaway trip. While you like a ready-planned trip, joining an escorted or group tour with a bunch of strangers is not your thing. Planning a multi-city trip on your own, however, especially when you have limited knowledge about the destinations you’ll visit and limited time off to travel can be overwhelming, time-consuming, and costly.

Only experienced multi-city travelers with first-hand knowledge of the destinations we offer craft your vacation package. From start to finish, your vacation is crafted with tips from our own travels incorporated into yours. We ensure your journey will be one to remember for years to come.

Our direct partnerships with over 250 suppliers across the globe specialize in flights, cruises, hotels, transportation, activities and more. With access to these specialists, we have endless ways to customize your trip at the best price possible.

Do you find yourself searching endlessly for deals, only to be disappointed with the final cost, and it doesn’t even include everything? Well, our packages include everything you need with upfront pricing. We believe in transparency, so you’ll never waste your time or come across unexpected costs.

We’re completely transparent about our pricing. Regardless of what option you choose, you get the best value deals, with full customization and support. We don’t believe in commission or markups and we’d never create a package that we wouldn’t love to book ourselves!

europe travel organizer

We’re passionate about travel technology, as much as we are everything else related to travel! That’s why we’ve integrated the best itinerary technology throughout our entire process. From day one, our unique systems help to fully personalize your travel experiences.

Simply put, the exclusive itinerary that we create for you will become your all-in-one travel guide, with everything you need for your trip. This includes a detailed, tailor-made daily itinerary, map, all your booking confirmations, e-tickets, a travel checklist and useful travel information with audio guides for the destinations you’ll visit. View or access it via email, tablet, mobile phone or desktop – we even have an invite-only private mobile app. Want to go offline? You can download your travel documents to have with you on the go.

Solo Travelers

europe travel organizer

As solo travelers ourselves, we understand people’s desire to be independent and believe you shouldn’t have to be punished for traveling alone! We don’t charge any additional fees for solo travelers, however some suppliers such as cruise lines, hotels, and tour operators do.

To get around this, we compare the products that fit your travel needs, choosing the best suitable option for your plans. We will try to source products that waive the single supplement fee, but for suppliers who do have higher solo fees, we will always try our best to negotiate prices on your behalf. We aim to bring you the best solo traveler deal possible.

Your dream vacation is 100% customized to your travel needs in just 5 easy steps!

Awesome tour. Great people. Super tour guide and driver - Adam & Florin.
This was a very fast paced highlight tour of Europe. This is a good sampler to see what is worth seeing on an extended trip. The guide and driver were excellent, and the tour was well thought out. It was a lot of time spent on the bus, but that was a good way to see what the countries really look like.

Overall, it was 6 days of diving into the rich culture and history of Turkey, scenic views and fun under the sun. Ata our guide, was very accomodating and flexible to our group's needs. A couple of non-attendees have hindered our prompt start and delayed our itinerary for the 1st day. The Istanbul part could have been planned more I believe, although most people stay a day or two after the group tour.
The area covered was perfect. The guide was fantastic. Her knowledge thorough and well delivered with great personality. She had the patience of a saint!

G Adventures

G Adventures

  • Excellent - 19,076 reviews for Europe tours
Was an amazing tour!
Hotels had dead cockroaches lying around, guide was sweet but not experienced at creating a cohesive group feel. On top of which, the credit that GAdventures gave me to compensate for the mediocrity of the trip expired in 6 months - even the airlines give you a year! And some trips have no option to have a private room (yes, I';m willing to pay extra for that).

Costsaver

  • Excellent - 863 reviews for Europe tours
Gerry Baines did a wonderful job in keeping everything organized, and on time.
We got to experience 5 countries and numerous cities! Never could have done this so efficiently and cost effectively on our own. And in each place we visited, we were provided historical and modern day insights, information, and cultural entertainment. Our tour director Sarah Rose was amazing. Her primary concern was always her guests' enjoyment and comfort. She went above and beyond! David, our coach driver, was also fantastic! Once in a lifetime experience for our family! Loved it!!!!

Excellent, Amazing tour from Penguin Travel. I really enjoy the tour. Thank you to Bobby our driver for keeping us safe back to sofia and taking care our luggage. Also Thank you to our Amazing Tour Leader Georgi, who is always there when needed. very well recommended.

Contiki

  • Excellent - 5,345 reviews for Europe tours
Richard the tour guide was amazing, he went above and beyond for everybody. If I had known this tour was going to be full of arrogant Aussies with no manners I’d never had gone on it. It’s very cliquey a lot mean girl vibes. You do get your moneys worth in terms of experience of each city you visit. I wouldn’t recommend
I am satisfied with all the tour. The tour was so amazing. The tour guide (Bento) was so informative, helpful and efficient with everything. The couch driver (Greg) was so helpful with everything and feel safe as he has excellent driving skill with welcoming smile. I would say the tour was fabulous.

Loved that I was able to see so much.

Choose Balkans

Juli was our tour guide and was fantastic! He knew the local history, architecture, culture, food, and current environment. We could not have found a more knowledgeable guide and competent driver on our own! And the Choose Balkans team that organizes and manages all the logistics are world class! I've traveled to more than 40 countries, and I'd match this tour group with any in the world I've used before. I'm grateful for a memorable experience and for making our time in Tirana worthwhile. It was a trip that we will not forget!
Excellent! Very well organised, extremely interesting and informative. The most famous ancient sites in Greece mixed with lots of cultural activities and a variety of geographical areas. Our tour director, Nikos Kontogiannis, was superb. Nikos has a great sense of humour, is extremely knowledgable and an excellent organiser. We were very impressed!

There was the largest December snow in 90 years just before we a. It made getting there a little difficult but well worth it! Our carriage ride was magical. Greg made it even more special. He was so attentive to everyone’s needs and abilities. Never rushing anyone. Not to mention his surprises every time we got back on the bus. Starting each day with “Louie Armstrongs it’s a wonderful world. We all would sing along. We became friends instantly and felt like family within just a few days together. I highly recommend Greg as a tour guide he really added to the experience. The atmosphere he created by showing us all how much he truly cared for each of us. He is an exceptional person and I for one feel that the trip would have not been the same without him!!!!!
Great variety of markets. Well organised and Greg was very helpful when I had a bit of a mobility issue.

How to Organize the Perfect Trip to Europe

Planning a trip to Europe can seem like an overwhelming task. There are so many places to go, things to see, and foods to try. Being organized will ensure you don’t miss a thing, so I’ve included a free travel planning guide worksheet just below this paragraph. Here is a list of steps you can take for planning the perfect trip to Europe.

Pick where you want to go

First things first, pick where you want to go! When it comes to Europe, everything is so close together, I highly recommend you plan a longer trip so you can hop around. If you’re coming from somewhere outside of Europe, planning a longer trip can be more cost-effective because once you’re in Europe, it is relatively inexpensive to travel around. It’s much cheaper to go to multiple places all on one trip instead of paying for a big flight each time you want to see a place. With that said, I highly recommend you set at least 2 weeks aside for a trip to Europe.

I also suggest you pick places that are in the same area as each other for time efficiency . You want to utilize all the time you have on activities, less on traveling from each location.

When picking where you want to go, think about the type of vacations you enjoy most. Are you more into hiking in the mountains or relaxing by the beach? Factors such as these will help you decide where to go.

Another huge factor on choosing where to visit, depends on who you plan to travel with. Traveling with family, with friends, or going solo will determine where it’s best to go. For example, there are places I would never travel solo based on safety and the activities offered.

When figuring out where you want to go, consider the time of year you plan to travel. The top destinations in Europe will be packed during the summer so you might prefer to go somewhere less visited during that time of year. If you plan to travel during the winter, pick warmer locations if you don’t like the cold. Visiting warmer locations during the winter that most people go to during the summer won’t take away from the experience. I went to Rome once in February and would do it again. The weather was still great and there were no lines to get in anywhere!

Plan things to do

Do your research to find out what each place has to offer (my blog will help with that!!!). Once you have a list made up for each destination, put them in order of priority.

My biggest tip for you is to use google maps to your advantage. Once you have your list of activities ready, map the location of each of them out! Save the locations of each activity. This will help you structure each day of your trip better. You’ll be able to visually see what activities are in the same area and can plan to do all those on the same day rather than unnecessarily zig-zagging your way through a place.

Find out the best restaurants and specialty foods to try

If you’re anything like me, finding the best foods to try and restaurants to go to are always a priority. Research specialty foods of where you’re visiting along with great restaurants to go to, then make a list! I always like to add a description of what each specialty food is, in case I forget.

Book a flight

Buying your ticket in advance is almost always best. I suggest using Skyscanner ! It’s a search engine that’ll show you flights with the lowest rates. Once you find a flight you want, go to the airline’s website to purchase it instead of buying it through a booking company. Often times, the flight will be cheaper on the airline’s own website.

Find accommodation

If you’re wanting accommodation that’s cheaper than a hotel, look for a hostel . The best platform to use is Hostelworld . Type in your destination and the hostels in that area will pop up along with photos and reviews of each hostel. Once you find the hostel you want to book, check to see if you can book directly from the hostel’s website, as it will most likely be cheaper.

Airbnb is also a great option for finding accommodation. Airbnb has different types of accommodation to fit your needs.

Plan transportation while on your trip

It’s a good idea to figure out how you’re going to get around in each place. If you go to a bigger city, there will be a metro and bus system for you to get around. Do your research and find out the best pass you can buy that fits your needs. Buying a transportation pass can end up being cheaper (depending on how much you plan to use it) than buying individual tickets each time you want to ride the bus or metro. In many European cities or towns, you're able to walk everywhere so you won't always need to worry about transportation.

When planning transportation from one destination to the next, I highly recommend using Omio . The platform compares prices between trains, flights, and buses. There is a common misconception people have about the trains in Europe. Everyone seems to think they are cheap! Most of the time, they are the most expensive option!

In reality, buses are the cheapest option, but it takes longer to get to where you’re going. If you have time to spare, buses are bearable. I once took an overnight bus from Paris to London through the Chunnel for 30 dollars! I got to go to London for 30 dollars! That’s so satisfying to say.

Planes are usually your second cheapest option and get you quickly from one place to the next. The downside is all the hassle involved with airports. Ultimately, if you have the money to take a train , it is the eco-friendliest option and can offer scenic views.

Extra Preparation

Make sure your passport is up to date! Most countries require your passport to be valid for 6 months after your arrival in their country . If it expires within 6 months, you won’t be allowed in.

Not all passports are created equal. Some passports are stronger than others , which means you may or may not be required to get a visa to enter another country. For example, an American may be allowed into a country without a visa, but someone coming from a different country may be required to get one. Always check to see if a visa is needed to enter the country you’re wanting to visit.

Before leaving on any trip call your bank! If you travel internationally and try to use your card, the bank may think someone has stolen it, resulting in it being blocked. Depending on your bank, you might also be able to use the mobile app to change the locations where your card can be used.

Set up an international phone plan before you leave. See what your phone company offers to ensure you have a data plan set in place.

Always check-in for your flights the day before. Triple check the departure time and triple check your calculations on when you'll need to leave for the airport to ensure you arrive with enough time to get to your gate!

Looking to travel to Europe once the pandemic is over, this is making me have so much travel FOMO!! Will definitely use your tips for the future.

Great tips! I always try to research restaurants before travelling somewhere new so that I'm not wandering around the city for hours looking for somewhere decent or getting lost.

Great tips! You're right about trains, and they can be confusing too when it's all in a different language. Last time I went on a train in Europe I almost missed it because I couldn't figure out where I was supposed to go haha! So researching that sort of thing can be a good idea too. Good idea planning things out on Google maps too! I always sort of do that just to get an idea of what order to do things in, but never thought of saving them.

The Best Travel Organizers for Every Type of Trip

Packing for a trip requires organization. And there's no better way to keep toiletries, makeup, digital gear, jewelry, and other small travel essentials safe during transit than with the right bag. Whether you're headed on a two-week vacation or a short weekend getaway, durable travel bags, pouches, and cases will always come in handy. We've rounded up a comprehensive list of the best travel organizers for every type of traveler, whether you need a sturdy cosmetic case for makeup products or a smart tech kit for cords and chargers. Below, our tried-and-true travel organizers, from waterproof pouches to essential packing cubes.

Dopp kits for women

Dopp kits for men, makeup bags, packing cubes, jewelry cases, hanging toiletry bags, water-resistant pouches.

Every traveler needs a go-to Dopp kit that will keep small toiletries like contact solution, moisturizer, and sunscreen organized in one place. These roomy and reliable bags also ensure your clothes and other personal items will be protected against any accidental leaks while traveling. The best Dopp kits for women offer enough space for your essentials while still being compact enough to fit in an already-stuffed carry-on or weekender .

There are plenty of great Dopp kits for men on the market—Dagne Dover, Herschel, Rains, and Bagsmart make some of our favorite travel-friendly (and budget-friendly) bags. These options make skincare and grooming products easy to find and easy to pack in your suitcase. No matter where you're headed on your next getaway, a trusty Dopp kit is essential. (Any of these sleek bags would also make a great gift for the travel-loving man in your life, too.)

We've all been there: You're sitting in a small, cramped seat in economy hopelessly searching for your iPhone charger in your under-seat bag. The solution to never-ending bag searching and tangled cords: A smart tech organizer that keeps all of your digital gear neat and tidy. These organizers are a true game changer when it comes packing cords, portable chargers, AirPods, and any other tech essentials you're toting around.

I've ruined a few tote bags by throwing a lipstick or loose powder inside and hoping for the best. You can't always be gentle with your personal item or carry-on while in transit, so a durable cosmetic bag helps protect your makeup products and everything around it. If you want to make getting ready in a hotel bathroom even speedier, opt for a clear cosmetic case or the Lay-n-Go drawstring bag that makes finding all of your products easier than ever.

If you're not already using packing cubes, let this be your sign to start. Our editors swear by packing cubes to keep clothes organized and compressed—meaning you can fit a whole lot more in your suitcase with these. Packing cubes also help you separate clean clothes from dirty ones and help protect special items like dresses and suits from any spilled liquids in your carry-on. Paravel and Calpak make some of our favorite packing cubes, but we also love the more budget-friendly options you can find on Amazon from Bagail and Alameda.

The last thing you need upon arriving to your destination is to find all of your necklaces and bracelets tangled. Or worse, discover that you lost a special (or expensive) piece of jewelry while in transit. A sturdy jewelry case ensures your favorite pieces will be safe and protected from being squashed or broken. And if you're in need of a thoughtful gift , a well-made and sleek jewelry case will be much appreciated.

Mark & Graham Small Cravel Jewelry Case

Toiletries can quickly create a cluttered bathroom counter. The next time you stay at a hotel or Airbnb, consider placing a hanging toiletry bag on the back of the bathroom door. It will help you see all of your products at a glance and limits the need to unpack and repack at the end of your trip. Use these to store anything from skincare and beauty products to jewelry and hair tools .

Image may contain: Bag, Handbag, Accessories, Purse, and Accessory

Sometimes, you need a water-resistant pouch or an extra bag, just in case . Options like the Aloha Collection pouches and Baggu set can hold wet bathing suits, dirty clothes, or sand-filled beach items, making it safe to toss them back in your tote or backpack . These types of bags can also keep your phone and other electronics safe if you're lounging by the pool.

Are you planning a trip to Europe and wondering what the best travel accessories for Europe are?

Do you want to know what are the Europe travel essentials are what’s just not necessary?

If you answered yes to these questions, then you are in the right place, as in this guide I’m going to show you not only what you need in your Europe travel kit, but also show you some of the exact items we use.

Very best travel accessories for Europe

By having all the essentials for traveling in Europe, it will make your trip so much easier. You won’t be inconvenienced by having the wrong adaptor or not being able to charge your mobile or camera during a day of sightseeing.

Also, having essential Europe travel items will make your trip more comfortable by providing you with some entertainment while on the plane or in transit between cities.

The good thing about most of these Europe travel kit items is you’ll be able to use them again and again for pretty much all your future travels wherever they may be. Some of these essentials for traveling to Europe, you may already have – for others, we take all the guess out of deciding which ones you should buy, and which ones just aren’t necessary.

Post Contents

Below I’ve listed 15 of the best Europe travel accessories that will ensure your trip is memorable and as comfortable as possible!

Lightweight Mirrorless Camera – Sony A6400

Of course one of the most essential traveling accessories wherever you go is your camera.  When you are traveling, you are also making memories and adding experiences. A photograph can speak a thousand words – how true is this quote? We carry our cell phone and a mirrorless camera to capture our moments abroad.

europe travel organizer

We cannot tell you enough how much joy it brings us when we re-live those moments; it definitely enriches our everyday lives.  In our view, investing in a good camera is one of the best accessories for travel.

While you no doubt already have a camera at home, if you’re looking to invest in a new camera for your Europe trip, we can highly recommend the Sony A6400.  This is the camera we use, and we just love the picture quality. Plus, it’s super light so that we can carry it all day long on our neck, without the heavyweight. The battery lasts all day and is so COMPACT that it fits in my cross-body purse.

The lenses in the mirrorless camera are powerful and super easy to use. In terms of ease of use, it’s like a point and shoot camera. You can learn complicated tricks to maximize the use of the camera, but even with the regular (out of the box) settings, it works fantastic.

When it comes to must-have traveling accessories – a camera is definitely at the top of the list!

Multi-Port Charging Cables – Chafon 6 in 1

europe travel organizer

I was given a sample of these cable years ago when I worked in retail, and it is an AMAZING item to keep forever. It is a charging cable, with multiple ports like for your iPhone, Kindle, camera, or battery back-up.

As you know, all these devices use different ports like a micro USB, USB, and lightning cable, etc. However, you can charge them all with this cable and all at the same time if you like.

The cable takes up less space and takes out the hassle (and of forgetting) or leaving any of the essential chargers behind.

Give this a try; you will be impressed. (and you won’t be breaking the bank either). I love to carry this charger in my purse as well – as Salil and I use different phones (iPhone and Android).

Travel Adaptor – Sublime Ware Universal Travel Adaptor

Depending on where you are traveling from, one of the travel necessities for Europe is a universal adaptor.

You will be carrying a range of electronic devices (a phone, camera, tablet or laptop) with you on your travels and so having the best travel adaptor for Europe will help you plug in your device in any power outlet in Europe.

europe travel organizer

A universal travel adaptor is absolutely one of the must-have travel accessories for Europe.

Click here to find out more about this universal adaptor.

Gadget Accessories Case – UGREEN Electronics Organizer

europe travel organizer

What I really like about the UGREEN organizer is its double-layer giving you even more space for all your gadgets.

One of these gadget accessory cases will undoubtedly come in handy for keeping all your cool travel accessories well organized.

Wireless Headphones – Bose QuietComfort 35II

europe travel organizer

If you’re going to get a new pair of headphones, I also recommend you go wireless.  These days wireless headphones are essential for traveling, as most devices only have one outlet, and so most of the time, you need to use that for keeping your device charged.

Having wireless headphones means you can listen to your music or movies while traveling and charge your device at the same time. Plus there are no annoying cables to deal with.

One of the most sought after wireless headphones by travelers, are the Bose QuietComfort 35 II headphones .  Not only do these headphones provide state of the art audio, but they are also noise-canceling so that you can block out all the sounds around you.  Plus, with up to 20 hours of battery life, you don’t have to worry about them going flat, even on the longest of flights.

The Bose headphones are both wireless and Bluetooth enabled so you can pair them with your device, plus through the Bose app, you can control the sound, level of noise cancellation and more via your phone. They also come in their own case making them perfect for travel.

To pass the time while traveling to Europe or around Europe, a great pair of headphones is undoubtedly one of Europe’s travel necessities.

SIM Card – Orange Holiday Europe

These days it’s pretty much impossible to travel anywhere without having access to the internet.  Whether you use the internet to access Google Maps to get around, book an Uber, check bus and train timetables, use TripAdvisor to find a great nearby restaurant, or check the opening times of the museum – having access is absolutely essential.

And I didn’t even mention being able to post all your great photos up on social media!

Having access to the internet makes having a prepaid SIM card one of the most essential travel accessories for Europe.  While you can no doubt buy one once you arrive, I highly recommend you grab one beforehand so that as soon as you get off the plane, you are good to start navigating your way around.

europe travel organizer

This Orange Holiday Europe SIM card makes the best travel SIM for Europe as it comes with a massive 20GB and works in 30 different European countries.  So much better than those crazy international roaming fees or relying on free Wi-Fi as you travel. Plus, you can use it the minute you touch down in Europe.

A prepaid SIM card is definitely one of the essential things you need when traveling to Europe.

Portable Charger – Anker PowerCore Essential 20000

Of course, with all these devices and electronics on your Europe travel list, you’re going to want to ensure you can always keep them charged.  This makes having a quality power bank another one of the essential things to bring to Europe.

europe travel organizer

A good heavy-duty power bank like this one from Anker will charge your devices multiple times over before it needs to be charged itself.  Plus it has two USB ports so you can charge multiple devices at once.

When it comes to the best travel gear for Europe, without a doubt a good quality portable charger is one of the best travel tech accessories you can bring along.

Anti Theft Travel Purse – Travelon Signature Hobo

europe travel organizer

Plus being an anti-theft purse, it has a range of great security features such as RFID blocking card slots, slash-resistant body panels, and shoulder straps, locking compartments, and a lockdown strap.

Anti Theft Day Pack – Pacsafe Metrosafe LS450

europe travel organizer

Try to stick to a size of 25-35 L size as a daypack or backpack style. With this optimal size, you can use the backpack as a carry-on and as a day pack to carry all the essential travel items for Europe, when you are out and about exploring.

The Pacsafe Metrosafe is one of the best travel daypacks for Europe, mainly due to its excellent anti-theft properties (slash-proof, water and tear-resistant).  These Pacsafe backpacks are made up of cut-proof and slash-proof material so that no thief can get access to your belongings.

Plus, you can tie and lock it to an immovable object in a restaurant or overnight trains in Europe, keeping your bag out of reach from evil hands.

Do consider an excellent quality anti-theft day pack for carrying all your valuable things needed for travel to Europe.

Packing Cubes – Eagle Creek Packing Cubes

europe travel organizer

If you are using a “tube-like single hole” backpack, you need a packing cube. If you are carrying multiple occasion outfits, you need to organize them – you need a packing cube.  Need to separate clean and dirty clothes on your trip, take a packing cube that acts as a laundry bag. Do I need to give more reasons to convince you?

Get one and try it! Seriously they really are one of the best accessories for international travel – any travel actually.

Like this Eagle Creek set, most packing cubes come in 3 different sizes, and you can store different clothes in each one and organize them by size or trip destination.

You can find cheaper options on Amazon, but it’s worth investing in good quality packing cubes, as the cheaper ones tend to break or tear mid-trip. These Eagle Creek ones will last you year after year.

Travel Organizer – Zoppen Multi-Purpose Travel Wallet

When traveling overseas, another one of the best international travel accessories to have is a travel organizer.  These organizers or travel wallets are so handy for keeping all your travel documents organized and in one place.

europe travel organizer

They are a MUST have to organize and secure your credit cards, printed boarding passes, passport, any quick notes like hotel address, emergency contact information, etc.

I know you might think, in the age of technology, why bother with a  printed boarding pass?  Trust me; not all airports will accept barcode/digital boarding passes, and what if your phone is frozen and cannot be scanned.

Also, your passports and credit cards are digital, so you will need a wallet with RFID protection (to protect against identity theft). We use a travel organizer for documents even at home, and when we are not traveling, to keep all the travel documents in one place.

Invest in one like this Zoppen travel wallet which is not bulky, yet has enough rooms for passport, credit or ID cards, money, paper, pen, and boarding pass, with RFID protection.

Do consider adding a travel wallet to your list of essential European accessories you need to get for your trip.

Collapsible Water Bottle – Baiji Bottle

europe travel organizer

In countries where water is expensive, fill it up at the hotel—places where public water is questionable – the same thing. Take filtered, clean water in your bottle. You are doing your bit for the environment and staying fit. Oh yes – drink lots of water, in flight, on the road and drink 8 glasses.

This Baiji collapsible bottle is such a great one to consider for anyone looking for a new water bottle for their trip.  It’s made from food-grade silicone and folds down so compactly, so it takes up barely any room in your luggage when not in use.  Plus, I love the carabiner so you can easily attach it to your bag for easy access throughout the day.

Don’t leave home with you a reusable water bottle – definitely one of the best travel accessories for international travel as well as local trips.

Click here to find out more about the Baiji Bottle

Travel Pillow – MLVOC Memory Foam Pillow

europe travel organizer

There is a stack of different pillow options, but I recommend you get a good quality memory foam pillow like this MLVOC one.  These pillows mold to the shape of your head and neck, which makes it easy for you to get comfortable, and they also have a drawstring cord so you can keep it securely in place.

The other good thing about these pillows is that it comes with its own travel bag and a removable machine washable cover.

If you want to get some sleep on your flight to Europe, a travel pillow is one of the best travel items for Europe!

Eye Mask – Unimi Eye Mask

If you want an even better chance of sleeping on the airplane, then consider investing in an eye mask.  A good quality eye mask like this Unimi one will ensure all the light on the plane is completely blacked out, which will encourage you to hopefully nod off for some shut-eye while on that long haul flight.

europe travel organizer

This Unimi eye mask is made from super soft memory foam, so feels comfortable on your face, and with the 3D ergonomic design, there is no pressure on your eyes.  The mask comes with a fully adjustable strap too, so you can get an excellent secure fit and avoid it slipping off.

Luggage Scales – AmazonBasics Portable Luggage Scales

europe travel organizer

These portable luggage scales can measure up to 50kg (can change to pounds, grams, or ounces), and with the digital screen, it’s easy to read right down to just 90g.

And there you have it our list of all the best accessories and best travel gadgets for Europe.  With the above items, you’re sure to have a smooth and hassle-free trip of a lifetime to Europe.

What is the Best Travel Organiser – EPIC Rundown 2024

After a few years of staying home and travelling only in our minds, borders are finally opening up for travel. There’s nothing better than setting off on an adventure, whether you’re crossing the ocean to a different continent or heading off on a backpacking trip around your home state. That being said, if you’re a seasoned traveller, you’ll know that a lot of preparation and packing goes into a trip, and it’s super important you have your possessions organised before you leave.

There are two types of packers in this world, the organised packer, and the chaotic packer. We’ve all indulged in a bit of last-minute messy packing in our time, chucking everything into a backpack unfolded and in a disorganised manner. But truly, there’s nothing worse than finding yourself at the check-in counter without knowing where your passport is or sitting on the flight wondering if you forgot to pack your toothbrush. Luckily, these experiences can only help teach us to be more organised in the future.

The easiest way to keep organised on your travels is by using a bunch of travel organiser bags, packs, and wallets to keep all your things in neat order. This way, there’s a place for everything, and you can visually see if something is missing from your packing list.

Not only do travel organisers make your life much easier when you’re packing and unpacking, but they also help you keep track of your possessions while you’re out and about on your adventure.

In this post, we’re going to highlight some of the best travel organisers for a range of adventures, from backpacks to electronics organisers, to make-up bags, to toiletry bags and everything in between. Whether you’re heading off for a local camping trip or are embarking on a worldwide adventure, there are a bunch of travel organisers on the market that will make your packing and unpacking duties less stressful.

About The Best Travel Organisers

The very best travel organisers in the world today, some more great ways to stay organised, final thoughts on the best travel organisers.

You’ll need different travel organisers depending on where you’re travelling to, how long you’re going for, and the type of trip you are taking. We don’t necessarily suggest you buy all of these organisers for one trip, but rather think about what will be most practical for you and your travel style. For example, a backpacking trip around Costa Rica will require you to pack very differently than if you were visiting Paris for Fashion Week.

The best travel organisers on the market are designed well-using quality materials and zippers. For many people, the whole point of packing well is to fit as much as you possibly can into a small space. For this reason, a good travel organiser should have practical storage compartments with optimised internal storage space for whatever they are designed to store. Some organisers even have customisable compartments, allowing you to design the internal storage space yourself.

europe travel organizer

If you’re travelling by plane or planning to lug your bag around by hand, you’ll also need to consider the bag’s weight. There’s no use being ultra-organised if you rock up to the airport with overweight luggage!

Price is also an important consideration, and you don’t want to end up spending an arm and a leg on travel organisers before you even embark on your journey. Most of the time, the highest quality products are the most expensive, but this doesn’t mean you won’t find practical and stylish travel organisers for a low price. Sometimes, it’s worth investing in a super high-quality bag if you plan on using it enough.

Shell Backpack By Tropicfeel

Tropicfeel created the Shell Backpack for the most versatile travellers. Whether you’re going on an adventurous camping trip or just a weekend away, this is the ultimate modern-day travel backpack and, without a doubt, one of the best travel organisers on the market.

While it’s called the Shell Backpack, this is much more than your ordinary shell. The main feature of the Tropicfeel Shell is its wardrobe system. This allows you to carefully organise your folded clothing into an easy-access foldable wardrobe and compress it into a tight space using the built-in compression system. With this practical technology, you’ll be able to fit in an additional 20% of clothing.

This 3-in-1 adjustable and adaptable design allows you to shift between a 22l and a 40l backpack. Expand it when you’re settled in your hostel, and contract it when you’re moving around.

The entire bag opens like a clamshell, meaning you can forget about digging your hand deep into the bag to unsuccessfully fish something out.

It also offers space to buy additional detachable accessories (such as a tech pouch, camera cube, and toiletry bag), which can be connected to the bag using magnetic Fidlock technology. This is ideal if you need a little extra space. Talking about space – there’s also a 6l expandable kangaroo pocket at the base of the bag, which is excellent for overflow items.

Of course, fitting so much into a small bag is bound to increase its weight. Luckily, Tropicfeel has thought of everything and has created a super durable and ergonomic backpack that is ultra-comfortable even when packed at full capacity. This is owing to the ergonomic back panel made from foam for lumbar support, as well as the adjustable and cushioned straps, hidden hip belt, and dual handle.

On top of all this, the Shell is weatherproof and built using sustainable fabrics and recycled materials. What more could you possibly ask for?

#2 Best Clothes Organiser – Nomatic Packing Cubes

Nomatic Packing Cube

A packing cube can be one of the most useful products and the best travel organisers for your clothes. They’re small and compact and can fit into wheeled suitcases as well as backpacks.

Packing cubes are ideal for trips where you plan to move around every few nights. Without having to unpack and repack your suitcase at each destination, you can easily decompartmentalise the contents of your case without unfolding your clothes or losing track of anything along the way.

Nomatic has a range of three packing cubes (small, medium, and large) for different sized cases, all differing in thickness. They’re built using durable materials, including high-quality zippers, and are lightweight enough not to make much of a difference to your overall bag weight.

Each packing cube is designed with a zippered compression system to help you pack 50% more than you otherwise would. The see-through mesh allows you to see what you’ve packed, making it easy to find what you’re looking for without having to open up each pack.

Want a matching bag to put it in? Check out our review of the epic Nomatic flagship backpack , also be sure to check out the Nomatic Messenger bag for keeping your passport and wallet safe.

Wandrd Tech Bag

One of the most frustrating things you can do is forget a charger cable in a wall socket during your travels. Not only are cables, cords, and plugs super pricey, but it’s also impractical not to have your device chargers on hand. Whether you work in the film or tech industry or you’re going on a short or a long trip, these pouches have been thoughtfully designed using high-quality materials for all sorts of travellers.

The best travel organisers for electronics are also designed to keep your cables in good condition, reducing the possibility of them being bent at funky angles and breaking. We’ve all had a dodgy aux cable that just ruins the vibe!

To make your life a little bit easier, WANDRD has designed the ultimate tech pouch to stash your devices and electronic accessories. The pouch comes in three sizes (small, medium, and large), each of which has a unique webbing lock and clip system on the back panel, allowing you to connect two or three bags together depending on how much tech equipment you’re carrying. These tech bags have mesh organisation pockets, as well as pen loops and cord pass-through holes.

For added convenience, the tech bags can also attach to two of WANDRD’s most popular backpacks. However, if you aren’t lucky enough to be kitted out with this brand’s backpacks, you can also use the detachable carry straps to attach your tech organisers to any other bag. They might look small, but you’ll be surprised at how much you can fit into these bags!

Nomatic Toiletry Bag 2

If there’s one product on this list that you likely already have, we’d guess it was a toiletry bag. They’re a common product that helps us keep all our toiletries in one place, but they’re also super useful in case one of your products buckles under cabin pressure and explodes or leaks. If we packed our toiletries in and amongst our clothing, we would all land up with shampoo-drenched t-shirts.

The Nomatic Hanging Toiletry Bag is one of the best travel organizers in the business because of its hanging straps and internal organisational layout. Have you ever arrived at a hotel or hostel to realise the bathroom has no counter space to lay out all your things? Well, simply attach this bag to a hanger, the shower pole, or the door handle in your bathroom for easy access to your toiletries at any time.

This bag comes in small and regular sizes and is designed with a minimalistic style and slim profile, making it easy to pack into your suitcase or backpack. The bags are built using durable waterproof materials to ensure any leaks are contained (both from internal spills and outdoor weather!)

The Hanging Toiletry Bag is made up of a bunch of mesh compartments, making it easy to compartmentalize your products and see what is where at all times. There is even a dedicated toothbrush holder where you can stash your toothbrush and keep it clean.

Harber London Super Slim Passport Wallet

We’ve all felt our hearts sink when we think we’ve misplaced a passport, card, or money while travelling, so keeping your travel documents safe is a top priority for any global traveller. Harber London has designed a simple and ultra-sleek leather document pouch to keep your passport, travel cards, and cash safe and in one place.

The ultimate goal of this passport wallet is to eliminate bulky pockets. Without this nifty wallet, you’ll have to store your passports separately from your cards and money, making for an uncomfortably chunky pocket.

The organiser can hold between one and two passports, many boarding passes and receipts, and up to four cards. The interior is made from a soft wool lining, which helps prevent your documents from getting scratched or damaged along your journey.

Our GREATEST Travel Secrets…

Pop your email here & get the original Broke Backpacker Bible for FREE.

There’s nothing worse than arriving at your destination and realising you’ve forgotten an essential charger cable or outfit for your holiday. A good travel organiser can make all the difference in your travel experience by allowing you to keep track of your possessions when you pack, during your travels and when you unpack.

That being said, there are endless travel organisers on the market, suitable for a range of needs and personal styles. A general Google can leave you feeling overwhelmed and confused, so it’s important that you know what you want from your travel organizer before you look into buying one. The best travel organisers for you depend on your destination, bag weight limit, and the type of trip you’re taking.

Aside from the weight, size, and practical aspects of a travel organiser, you’ll need to consider the price and quality of the product. In our opinion, it’s always better to invest in the best quality product that you can afford at the time, so it won’t break or fail you during your trip. This way, you’ll be splurging now to save later.

Preparation is vital when you’re travelling, and being underprepared or disorganised can lead to a whole lot worse than having to buy some new toiletries. So, we hope this list of the top thirteen travel organisers has helped you clarify the type of organiser you think you need.

Travel + Leisure / Brian Kopinski

Keeping your tech organized and accessible is essential for a stress-free travel experience. Sure, we used to just toss our tech items in a clean toiletry case and call it a day, but that was before we had so much stuff. These days it seems like there’s a different cable for every device, and a different device for practically everything. We’d rather spend a little extra time in the sun than be fiddling with tangled charging cords or searching for the correct generation USB plug.

These travel tech organizers will keep you juiced up, plugged in, and zoned out without skipping a beat. We’ve got picks for the ultra-minimalist who can survive with the bare essentials, the unabashed maximalist who needs space for everything, and everyone in between.

Best Overall

Calpak tech organizer.

It’s got a packable, slim profile but still fits the essentials.

The retention bands can lose elasticity quickly when storing overly bulky items.

This minimalist bag has a spot for all your essential travel tech accessories and comes with the quality and cachet of the Calpak name. The clamshell design makes it a cinch to grab your gear without fiddling with deep pockets or multiple organization layers. Plus, this tech organizer sports the right amount of padding — enough to cushion but so much that adds unnecessary bulk — and its slim 1.5 inch-deep profile still fits nicely in a carry-on or personal item bag. The top grab handle makes it easy to pull out and carry, too.

All three full-side storage pockets have convenient pull tab zippers, and two have front mesh fabric, so you can assess their contents in one quick look. We found the two interior slip pockets large enough to hold a portable charging bank and loved how the four elastic retention bands kept our cords separated, snug, and at the ready. Just note that these bands can stretch out over time; faster if you store very thick or bulky cords. Plus this case comes in 12 colors and patterns, so it’s simple to pair the perfect bag with your travel style.

The Details: 9.5 x 7 x 1.5 inches | 0.25 pounds | Polyester and polyethylene

Best Budget

Bevegekos tech organizer travel case.

You get twice the usual storage area with this organizer’s two-layer, double-clamshell design.

The smaller compartments are tiny and reduce the overall functionality of the organizer.

There are not a lot of bells and whistles with this basic organizer, but it delivers for anyone who doesn’t travel often or those who don’t have many tech accessories to pack. We really liked the extra value that the double-layer clamshell design gives. Instead of the usual two interior storage walls, this organizer has four. You’ll get two larger slip pockets for storing a smartphone or charging bank, three medium-sized mesh pockets for things like wireless earbuds or USB charging cables, and a deep slip pocket with two fairly tight small mesh slip pockets on top. The two small mesh pockets can only really fit something small, like an SD card, leaving it to feel a bit outdated and like a waste of space. Instead, we’d rather see this whole panel used as another large slip pocket. This bag also comes in medium and large versions, with varying dimensions and deeper pocket sizes.

The Details: 7.48 x 4.33 x 2.16 inches | 3.87 ounces | Jacquard | Water-resistant

Best Roll-up

Procase travel gear organizer.

The elastic closure band keeps it secure whether it’s stuffed or slightly filled.

There is a risk of items slipping out if the elastic on the interior pockets loosens.

Unlike a zippered bag with a fixed width, this rolling design allows you to pack in a variety of tech accessories without having to worry as much about volume constraints. With this organizer bag, you’ll be able to stuff all the pockets and roll it up. The elastic band closure will secure the roll whether you’ve packed a lot or a little. Other rolling bags we’ve seen have a fixed snap or buckle closure, which means you’ve got to fill the bag exactly in order to get a secure closure. We also like that when this unrolls, your entire tech set is laid out and easy to access. Storage compartments include three mesh zippered pockets, six retention bands for cords, three mini slip pockets, and two expandable nylon slip pockets. We do want to flag that once the elastic pockets start to loosen, you may run the risk of some items sliding out.

The Details: 17 x 9 inches (laid flat), 4.5 × 9 inches (rolled up) | 4.6 ounces | Nylon | Water-resistant

Best Everyday Use

Dagne dover tech organizer.

Dagne Dover

There’s a D-ring loop that can clip into a main bag for easy locating on the go.

It’s best used with Apple products.

This simple but effective tech organizer from Dagne Dover is a no-fuss solution for making sure you always have your essential tech accessories with you. Like with many compact travel tech organizers, the Dagne Dover Arlo Tech Organizer seems to work best with Apple products (or products with a similar size and shape). It’s a great organizer for everyday use during commutes with compartments for a computer charging cable extender, charging brick, a small USB charging wall adapter, and a USB charging cord. We also like the small, plastic D-ring that can be clipped into a larger commuter backpack. The tough neoprene material is waterproof, too. So if you get caught in bad weather, you don’t have to panic. We like the small version but it also comes in a large size for those with more gear.

The Details: 4.5 x 2.25 x 5 inches | 5 ounces | Neoprene, recycled polyester | Waterproof

Mark & Graham Essential Tech Folio

Mark & Graham

Design details boost the overall look of the folio.

It’s leather and can be ruined with excessive water exposure.

With two-toned colorways and design details like angled leather pocket sleeves, this folio earns extra style points. Thankfully, it’s not looks over function as you use tasseled leather pulls to navigate the gold metal zip. Once opened, you’ll see one side with two inset sleeves, a change pocket, and cut-slots for your ID and other cards along with a spot for a tablet; the large version can fit a standard iPad but it also comes in a small size that fits an iPad Mini. The other side has well-spaced leather slip pockets for things like a wireless earbuds case, a smartphone, a passport, and thin loose charging cables. Giving it as a gift? You can go the extra mile and personalize it with a gold or silver foil embossed monogram or larger printed letters. This is a real leather product, so it’ll need to be handled with care. Wipe off and dry any water to avoid spotting or damage.

The Details: 8.5 x 11 x 1 inches | Leather

Best Cable Organizer

Side by side cable organizer tech bag.

It has a very packable shape and unbeatable storage capabilities (that even fits bulky PC chargers).

Most of its storage organization uses retention straps.

This organizer bag immediately stands out among others because of its shape. It goes against the grain of the usual boxy design and goes for slim length. We love it not only because this makes it extremely convenient to pack (especially in a duffel or backpack) but also because it requires less bending for your cords. It can accommodate long cords easily and manages to do what few tech organizers can: fit those thick PC charging cords , including the brick. The outer panels have a flexible compression fabric that holds items in place but can stretch to fit oddly shaped or oversized accessories. Items are stored in two separate zippered compartment sides, mostly using elastic retention straps of different sizes. There’s only one zippered pocket inside. It’s mesh and roughly the size of a credit card.

The Details: 10.2 x 3.5 x 1.6 inches | 9 ounces | 300D polyester, elastane nylon

Best With Stand-up Case

Native union stow lite organizer.

It looks smart and is made from soft but durable recycled materials.

There’s no handle or wrist strap.

This soft-sided tech organizer bag has an A-line silhouette that ensures it will stand up on its own, making it more convenient when you’re searching for something or loading it up before a trip. We like how simple but stylish it is. It's made from recycled plastic bottles with a leather zipper trim that kicks up the look (though we wrestled with the zipper a few times because of the trim). It’s a great pick for travelers who have a few specific items they want to store separately for quick access, but don’t mind tossing other items in the main pocket. The interior organization includes five lightly padded slip pockets for items like USB charging cords, Bluetooth mouse, and earbuds with the case. The main pocket can be a bit snug when the pockets are full but can generally fit an iPhone charger and MacBook charger (both with bricks), a slim charging bank, a few extra USB cables, and small wall adapters. One thing we found to be lacking? You can only carry it like a clutch — there’s no handle strap or detachable wristband.

The Details: ‎4.53 x 7.48 x 2.56 inches | 3.18 ounces | Leather and recycled polyester | Water-repellent

Best Leather

Parker clay utility pouch.

Parker Clay

The beautiful and durable leather is sourced from Ethiopia.

The partially zippered opening can make it annoying to load.

If you’re the type of person who likes to keep their valuables close, this gorgeous leather tech pouch is carried like a clutch. It’s made from sustainable goat leather from Ethiopia, which looks as luxe as it feels against your palm. We like bringing this pouch in our personal item and packing it with our in-flight entertainment tech essentials like an iPad mini, Kindle, smartphone, earbuds with a case, and corresponding chargers. It’s also best unloaded at your seat since you’ll only get a two-thirds opening, which can block access and be especially frustrating when loading it up. On the plus side, a quick change of contents and this pouch can easily become a clutch.

The Details: 10 x 7 x 0.25 inches | Leather

Best for Apple Products

Away the tech case.

It can fit a boxy universal travel adapter.

The deep shape that takes up twice as much room as other comparable products.

Away’s The Tech Case follows the brand’s reputation of high-quality travel gear that goes big on understated style and function. This soft-sided case is water-resistant and has a spacious dual level design that’s good for storing and organizing bulky tech accessories when traveling. The flip-top zipper closure has three retention bands that are the perfect size for storing USB charging cords and an earbuds case. On the opposite side, there’s a shallow compartment with a mesh panel that unzips, revealing access to a deeper bottom compartment where you can store your laptop charging cable, extension cable, and power brick. We like it because it’s possible to fit a universal plug adapter in this space, making it perfect for international travel. However, at over six inches in depth, it can be tougher to pack simply because of its own bulky shape; so keep that in mind if you’re primarily a carry-on traveler.

The Details: 6.3 x 4.7 x 2.95 inches | 3.7 ounces | Nylon  | Water-resistant

Best Fan-style

Inateck electronics case.

It’s a durable and simple organizer with great capacity.

Since it opens like a book, not all the pockets have security features.

If you’re the type of person who prefers to see all of your items at a glance, consider the Inateck Electronics Organizer Travel Case. It has a unique accordion fan design that opens like a book, neatly exposing its contents. You’ll still get great organization on the inside, too. The large size is approximately the size of a toiletry case and is big enough to fit a Nintendo Switch. The 1200D polyester material is hardy enough to hold up for frequent travelers and makes the bag water-repellent, too. Inside, you’ll find soft and stretchy lycra material with eight various slip pockets, a large velcro-secured pocket, and seven elastic retention straps. Unfortunately, most of the slip pockets do not have elastic rims or security straps, so you’ll want to be sure to have a flat surface since it opens up 180 degrees.

The Details: 10.24 x 3.74 x 5.91 inches | 8.2 ounces | 1200D polyester | Water-repellent

Best Hardsisde

Procase hard travel electronic organizer case.

The water resistance and shock absorption give us extra piece of mind.

It works best for smaller items that aren’t too bulky.

A hardside case is the way to go when it comes to protecting your most expensive tech accessories. This ProCase Hard Travel Electronics Organizer has a durable, water-resistant EVA shell and shock-absorbing lining that works double time to keep your electronics safe from spills, drops, and splashes. We like the convenient wristlet strap and dual-compartment design. The storage capacity is more than enough, with five zippered mesh pockets and two compression slip pockets. However, it’s not designed to hold bulky items; just smaller tech accessories, which is a bit of a bummer considering the overall size. If you need more space, opt for the large or extra-large versions.

The Details: 9.72 x 5.82 x 2.55 inches | 0.31 ounces | EVA | Water-resistant

Tips for Buying a Travel Tech Organizer

Know what items you need to store.

Take stock of your tech items to make sure your desired tech organizer has the capacity and capability to hold what you need it to. This is particularly important if you’ve got a bulky item or two, or if the majority of your stuff is small and easy to lose. If you’re having trouble finding an organizer that fits your needs, consider what your basic essentials are and what might be able to be safely and securely packed elsewhere. You’ll also want to consider where you’ll be packing the organizer to make sure it’ll fit in your bag while still giving you room to pack anything else you need.

Consider durability and water resistance

Are you a frequent traveler or just preparing for a one-off trip? Frequent travelers will want to pay more attention to the durability of their tech organizer than someone who won’t be using the product repeatedly over a short period of time. Budget-friendly doesn’t always mean poorly-made, as you’ll see with our picks, and products with a higher price point may not deliver when it comes to key things like water resistance. Leather looks great and can look even better over time, but it’s easily ruined by scrapes and exposure to liquid. On the flip side, ripstop material like 600D polyester or EVA won’t look as luxurious but will last much longer and provide better protection against bumps, drops, and spills. Also, consider the quality of your organizer's zipper. This is an oft-overlooked detail that can make or break how much use you can get out of a product. Once the zipper breaks, it’s usually game over.

Storing your tech in one spot while traveling helps you to keep track of it, especially the smaller pieces, while you’re away from home. Using a storage option with built-in organization keeps your sanity. Tossing your essentials into a single-pocket bag is convenient — until you need them, and tech organizers help to avoid the frantic fishing through your luggage for a charger or that important flash drive. They can also help keep cords from tangling, a major win and frustration saver.

Depending on the size, you can pack your travel tech organizer in your checked bag, carry-on, or personal item. However, many travelers are wary of packing anything valuable like tech in their checked luggage for fear of theft or damage, plus you’ll want to make sure there are no power banks or other devices prohibited from the cargo hold. It’s most common to bring an organizer into the cabin which also allows you to access it during your travel day as needed.

The Travel Quandary

The Ultimate Trip Planner Template – Easy To Use Excel Format!

You’re about to embark on your next adventure – hooray!

Travel planning comes naturally to some who thrive on the challenge to find the best deal on a tour, stay at the coolest hotel or dine at the hottest new restaurant. These travellers are always at the airport on time, check opening hours of attractions before leaving home and have packing down to a fine art form. On the other end of the scale, there are travellers who prefer to go with the flow, do things spontaneously and are happy to rock up to a new destination and “wing it”.

According to the World Tourism Organization (UNTWO), 1.4 billion people travelled internationally in 2018. And apparently, there are over 750 million users of Microsoft Excel worldwide. There’s a high chance that you’ll fall into both of these categories (we don’t know the exact number but it would make for a pretty neat Venn diagram). And if you also classify yourself as an “unprepared” and/or “unorganised” traveller, our trip planner template is designed to help YOU.

Microsoft Excel is not only used by accountants and finance people. Microsoft Excel has become the ultimate planning and analysis tool, recognised and used worldwide which is why we’ve chosen it to create our trip planner template. We hope you find it useful and welcome your feedback and recommendations!

FREE TRIP PLANNER TEMPLATE! MICROSOFT EXCEL & GOOGLE DOCS

Why use a spreadsheet to plan your trip.

  • Identify gaps in your itinerary (closures, public holidays, mandatory reservations)
  • Save money (better budget decisions, better choices on trip)
  • To get you excited! You’re going on a holiday! Hooray!

Download your free trip planner template here

Note: For Google Docs template, download the .zip file and upload the spreadsheet to your Google Drive. Once uploaded, open with Google Sheets.

Using this spreadsheet

The Ultimate Trip Planner Template is built into a spreadsheet which is divided into six sections. We’ve built this trip planner to include 16 days of travel but you can adjust the length of the trip by adding or removing columns in the spreadsheet.

Once you’ve confirmed your travel plans, add them here. This is where you can record all your reservations – flight details, accommodation, car rental, equipment rental, tour reservations etc. Listing them on one tab means you can quickly jump in and find those important details when you need them.

2. Planning

Researching airlines, hotels, Airbnbs, car hire, tour operators and travel insurance policies can be exhausting. You’ll probably go through a phase where you’ll have so many tabs open on your browser, it’ll make you want to pull your hair out! If you also need to compare prices and dates with your travel companions, it can become downright overwhelming.

When you find a potential option you like, add it to the “Planning” tab. When your research is condensed into a neat summary, it will be a simple exercise of reviewing all possible suppliers, key dates and prices and then after a process of elimination, you will be left with the most suitable option.

A budget is by no means set in stone. Our budget tab is designed to help with your travel planning decisions. We feel that it is important to understand the costs of a holiday before making any hasty decisions. And we consider it even more important that you don’t spend beyond your means!

We don’t want to sound like party-poopers but the last thing you want is to get ripped off and/or find yourself stuck abroad without any money. By understanding where you plan to spend the bulk of your hard-earned money on your holiday, you can plan where you’ll allow yourself to splurge and other areas where you may need to tighten the purse strings.

For example, we give ourselves extra budget for food and coffee experiences as this is an aspect we love about travelling. We tend to book budget/basic accommodation on the road depending on the destination and available options, as all we need is a bed, access to a (preferably) hot shower in a secure room.

A good chunk of your budget will already be paid or known in advance before you’ve even left home (i.e. flights, some ground transport, accommodation, tours (if applicable) etc), so this should also help when allocating your budget to food, shopping and extras. There will also be times where you need to be strict and say “no” if your gut feeling and bank account tell you that you cannot afford a certain something. Be conservative but also be kind to yourself – you are treating yourself to a holiday after all and you’ll have to spend money to fully enjoy the experience!

4. Itinerary

We spend a lot of time planning our travel itineraries on a day by day basis and even breaking it down to each hour of each day. Some people call us crazy but when we are short on time and have an extensive list of things to see/do/eat/shop etc, we prefer to be organised.

Laying out our trip day by day also helps us to block out periods of time for travel or to take note of when restaurants and attractions are closed. Of course, plans can and will change. Rain may force you indoors (museums, galleries, shopping) or an unknown public holiday may disrupt your planned travel day.

We recommend using this tab to roughly outline your plans and drop in the activities and places you simply cannot miss. You can move activities to different days if your original plan doesn’t work out. If you want, record your daily expenses at the bottom and you can track how your actual spending goes against your budget.

5. Packing List

For those who begrudge packing, it tends to be the case that you will end up wearing 20% of your packed belongings during 80% of your trip. Or if you’ve left packing until the last minute and thrown items higgledy-piggledy into your suitcase, you’ll arrive at your accommodation to realise you’ve forgotten your favourite undies or packed the wrong shoes.

Packing lists work. Once you’ve considered the weather and climate at your destination, your baggage allowance plus the duration of your trip, you can plan what you need and limit unnecessary purchases on the other side.

We’ve compiled a pretty epic packing list covering practically every type of adventure and possibly everything that you may need. Feel free to adjust accordingly to your requirements.

6. Checklist

This is the final step before you walk out your front door to embark on a brand new adventure. Before you go, use this tab to ensure you’ve dotted all the i’s and crossed all the t’s. And then you’re off!

Bon voyage!

Europe Travel: Choosing the Best Luggage For You

Tips & Tricks

Europe Travel: Choosing the Best Luggage For You

The best luggage for European travel depends on multiple factors, including how long you plan on staying, whether you’re visiting one or more cities, and how you plan on traveling. A couple heading to Rome on their honeymoon needs very different bags than the student taking a gap year to hike from Paris to Berlin. We’ve put together this guide to help you select the best bag for Europe travel, no matter how you explore the many countries, towns, and villages that make up the EU.

Backpacking day trips

A backpack is an essential piece of luggage for European travel, because it’s so versatile. A small backpack makes an excellent personal item for international flights, giving you easy access to tablets, laptops, books, snacks, and travel documents. When you reach your destination, use your backpack for day trips, hikes, and shopping trips.

Choose a backpack with plenty of pockets and compartments. A backpack has less storage space than a suitcase, so choose a bag with multiple compartments to keep contents organized. Water-resistant bag exteriors are a must for when you’re hiking or exploring. Ideally, choose a backpack made from abrasion-resistant materials, as the bag will be exposed to bumps, bashes, and the elements while you travel.

  • The Maxlite® Laptop Travel Backpack   is designed for total convenience on the move. Stay organized with padded laptop and tablet sleeves. Plenty of interior and exterior pockets to store all of our travel necessities.  Plus, the ECOFAB ™  interior lining is made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic bottles to help reduce environmental waste.
  • The Bold™ By Travelpro® Computer Backpack With Compartments includes padded sleeves for a laptop and tablet, each accessible through exterior zippers. Dual side pockets offer space for water bottles and compact umbrellas, and a rear strap fits over rolling luggage handles to make transportation a snap.

One city, a few days

Travelers who prefer to stay at a hotel and devote a few days to exploring a single city can use backpacks while they’re out and about but are better served by carry-on luggage. A carry-on bag lets you pack more and has enough room for two people’s clothing if they pack light for a short trip. Carry-ons are lighter and more maneuverable than full-sized suitcases and often expand to accommodate any souvenirs you might buy on your journey.

The best carry-on luggage for Europe travel are wheeled spinners that meet your airline's  international carry-on dimensions . Check your airline before flying to confirm your carry-on meets their size restrictions.

Below is a selection of the best carry-on luggage for Europe:

  • The Maxlite® 5 International Carry on Spinner may become your new favorite compact, all-in-one suitcase for short trips that fits all of your travel essentials. ECOFAB® lining made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic bottles helps reduce environmental waste.
  • The Crew™ VersaPack™ Global Carry-On Expandable Spinner comes with a removable Zip-In Garment Organizer and can be customized by adding additional Travelpro® Zip-In Organizers, such as a Laundry Organizer , Packing Cubes Organizer , and All-In-One Organizer . Plus, it expands in case you over-shop while away.
  • The Platinum® Elite Carry-On Rolling Garment Bag is a great solution for wrinkle-free globe trotting. Interior pockets hold folded clothing, undergarments, and accessories, while a padded roll bar helps prevent creases in hanging suits, dresses, and shirts.

Multiple cities, few days

If you plan to visit multiple European cities for a few days, a combination of checked and carry-on luggage may serve you well. You'll have more room for clothing and extra space for purchases. Sticking to a single checked item and a carry-on bag or backpack also makes navigating train stations and airports easier. Possible luggage solutions for short, multi-city European trips include:

  • The Maxlite® 5 Carry Me Away Carry-On Luggage Set lets you travel with ease with our lightest wheeled carry-on luggage and our smart and compact tote. The four wheels spinner provides you with an effortless roll, while the stylish luggage tote is the perfect grab-and-go bag for small personal items.
  • The Platinum® Elite Compact Carry-On / Large Check-In Hardside Set takes you just about anywhere in sophisticated style and ultimate comfort with a large, expandable, ultra-durable hard-sided check-in spinner that can be used for multiple people and a compact carry-on spinner ideal for keeping all your onboard needs handy in route.
  • The  Platinum® Elite Backpack / 21" Carry-On Luggage Set combines a slim spinner tote with a durable backpack. At 21 inches, the spinner tote meets the international carry-on dimensions of most airlines and includes a built-in USB port and power bank pocket (battery not included). The backpack includes numerous interior organizing pockets, padded sleeves for laptops and tablets, and an exterior Travelpro QuickSlip pocket ideal for your cell phone .

Longer Trips

Suitcase sets are the best luggage for European travel if you plan an extended stay. While it’s relatively easy to live out of a carry-on for a two or three-day trip, if you're staying for 1.5 weeks or more, you’ll need the extra space of one or more suitcases.

Look for suitcases made from sturdy material with durable telescoping handles and wheels to make navigating airports easier. A good handle and wheels are essential out of the airport too: remember you may have to wheel suitcases down narrow, sometimes cobbled streets or carry them up stairs. Once at your hotel, you can choose to unpack or live out of your bag (we recommend unpacking for longer trips to make the hotel room seem more like home).

Below are our choices for the best luggage for extended European travel:

  • The Maxlite® 5 Breakaway Luggage Set is designed for convenience, comfort, and ease of motion with both carry-on and check-in size soft-sided spinners that are built lightweight yet ultra-durable, and each expand up to 2 inches when you need more packing space.
  • The Travelpro® x Travel + Leisure® Carry-On / Large Check-In Trunk Set features two hard-shell suitcases with rugged 100% polycarbonate exteriors and integrated TSA locks. Split-case construction, zippered divider panels, multiple accessory pockets, and a water-resistant pocket help you maximize storage space and keep contents organized.
  • The Platinum® Elite 21/25/29  Luggage Set includes three premium soft-sided spinners that are styled with sophistication and loaded with features. A USB port in the carry-on lets you power devices on the move, while the check-in bags each offer removable suiters for wrinkle prevention.

Visiting Europe is an unforgettable experience filled with history, culture, and fascinating sights. Make the most of your trip by selecting the best possible luggage with our How to Choose a Suitcase Quiz .

Traveling Europe with Prescription Drugs

We had originally planned to bring our prescriptions in a weekly pill organizer and leave the bottles (10) at home but I read that you need to travel with them in the original prescription containers. Another friend that travels frequently to Europe just takes them in an organizer and has no problems. Any suggestions?

Husband and I have been traveling with them in zip lock bags or pill a day containerd for years and never had an issue. Some folks print off copies of their prescriptions to take along but we never have

We have been using a pill organizer for years. I also bring extra labeled in a zip lock bag. We both only have a couple of meds to take. We also bring a pharmacy print out of our meds. I also take a screenshot to have on my phone. Never had a problem.

I don’t have a recommendation as to how to handle this but I will relate the situation that I faced in March of 2020.

I had only brought with me enough medication in pill organizers to cover me for just a few days beyond my scheduled trip when the U.S. closed its borders due to the pandemic. I was in Morocco and was faced with an extended stay. Well off to the pharmacy I went with essentially nothing (but the pills on hand and my head knowledge of what they were) to try and obtain more.

Having at least a copy of the prescriptions (i.e. labels from the bottles) would have made the process easier. I still use the pill organizers but now I carry extras in the original containers too.

As long as you are not carrying narcotics or any schedule controlled substances (example: Xanax), you should be fine with whatever organizational system you come up with. I just used small snack size baggies with the days meds, then all of those go in a bigger baggie, they can just be stuffed wherever and are small. That was the system that took up the least amount of space, I could pretty much just stuff them in my little side pocket inside my suitcase. A Note: if you are taking a flight that would correspond with the normal time you take your meds, make sure to pack that single dose in your carry on.

I, too, use organizers and snack baggies for my daily pills. I also print off my medication list from my healthplan which tells dosage, etc. and since most are generic I don't have to worry about a script that only has a brand name.

Do be aware that the advice you are getting is more or less what I did advice. You would be hard pressed to find a source, government or otherwise that will suggest its a good idea to bring your meds in anything but the original prescription bottles.

We put our meds in ziplock bags with an extra Rx label attached. In addition, we carry a copy of the data sheet that comes with the meds just as a back up to prove what they are. We've traveled to many countries that way and never had a problem.

I take the original bottles and plenty extra in case the unforeseen happens an I am unable to return home for a few weeks.

I keep them in a zipped travel bag I got at REI.

Always travel with meds in their original labeled plastic containers. Doesn’t weigh much and its the last thing I pack.

I keep a list of the meds on my iphone in the notes application. Also have a printed copy that goes into my travel folder.

Never had a problem.

I use organizers and have a photo of the bottles on my phone.

Along with all the pills in baggies, I print out our medication lists from our doctor’s website.

its not a good idea to bring your meds in anything but the original prescription bottles.

Not every country gives medication in prescription bottles. Some get blister packs. Others get pill envelopes. Etc, etc, etc.

Not every country gives medication in prescription bottles. Some get blister packs. Others get pill envelopes. Etc, etc, etc

Since you are being literal, perhaps we could just amend the statement to the 'original container as dispensed'. But I believe the original statement is what appears (paraphrased) in the advice given by the State dept. And the Canada govt travel site. European countries, for the most part don't seem too concerned about meds for personal use. But show up with a baggie full of self labeled pills in some other countries, and you could absolutely count on a lengthy conversation with a government officer.

A Note: if you are taking a flight that would correspond with the normal time you take your meds, make sure to pack that single dose in your carry on

I also wanted to comment on this, from Letizia. ALL of your meds should be in your carry on or your personal item when flying. You should NEVER put prescription meds in your checked bags, in case they are delayed or lost.

I gave the answer i gave because I am not prepared to be personally responsible for the results of any other answer. I carry 6 meds including one not approved for use in the EU and one that requires carrying syringes. What do I do? Not material to the question.

CJean- I agree one of the things that stays with you at all times are your meds BUT do you really want to be digging in your carry on for your pills or have the one single dose needed inflight conveniently in one baggie that is easily accessible? I just pack the one dose of X number of pills separate from my main stash, in the front pocket of my carry on.

I take pictures of the original bottles and keep on my phone if using a pill a day organizer. Never had issues at all anyhow. Thousands of people travel daily with medications. Even a 90 supply doesn't raise an eyebrow.

Most of our Rx's are 90 day supplies in unnecessarily large containers with way too much empty space. It seems ludicrous carrying these "original" bottles especially now that more space is also needed for test kits, masks, etc. My partner and I have never taken these original containers with us aside from my ambien....and even that is has gone to 90 day supplies in bottles that have too much wasted space. We've tried getting 30 day supplies for travel with somewhat smaller bottles but still way too much wasted empty space. The improvement was minimal and didn't justify losing the bulk 90 day savings. I suppose people could get different packaging options outside their paid plans if they are willing to pay for it.

(EDIT) A paper copy of the prescription arrives with our mail orders. We take that along with us and also snap a pic of the bottle with it's associated paper. The doctor gets me a smaller ambien Rx at the local pharmacy and I don't mind taking that small bottle with me. The doctor has indicated which of our medicines cannot have missed dosages...only one can have a few missed days.

Depending totally one’s health situation and caregivers, talking to your prescribing doctors about your trip may surprise you. Some non-critical and lifestyle meds can take a two- to four-week vacation without complications or side effects. You also can probably get along just fine for a few weeks without a collection of OTC meds and feel-good supplements. To find out, wean yourself off of them for the month before you depart.

The reason they say bring your medications in your original container is because they want to see that prescription label.

I put many of my prescriptions into small ziploc bags writing the name of the prescription on the bag. I have a copy of the prescription label and my labels have a description of the pill.

In my last 3 trips what I have done is carry my prescriptions in separate baggies for the time that I will be traveling plus 10 more in case of COVID. I make a photo copy of the prescription labels (the pharmacy can print extras for you), scan the copy and email it to myself and my phone. Haven't had problems yet.

Does anyone use Rx blister packs when traveling? The Rx label is on the card. You can cut off the used rows as you go to reduce bulk. If you prefer a 7-day organizer, you could use a Sharpie to write the day of the week on the blister pack card. Just a thought.
