Does anyone have any suggestions for excursions from Jibacoa?

We would most likely be interested in day trips and would be looking at getting a car and driver.

We are open to all suggestions but are especially interested in anything to do with nature.

Get one of the more knowledgeable taxi drivers to take you into the back country, there are three really good lookout points that give really majestic views of some of the mountains and areas. One lookout is very hard to find you have to ask a few farmers the way but once there you find a large paved parking lot with a cement fence around it. Locals say it was built for the Russian tourists that came by the bus load before the USSR collapsed. Plus you get to see all the little villages out there and how the Cuban people live.

El Arabeke. It is a restaurant past Hershey Gardens, turning south at Santa Cruz.

If you like nature, consider a day trip to the Zapata national park. Get a driver who knows how to hook up with one of the professional naturalist guides, who can show you birds galore (including the smallest hummingbird in the world), owls, bats etc. You will also get to see the Bay of Pigs, which is both historically interesting and very beautiful.

The "Parque Escaleras de Juraco" is nice too for nature lovers, non touristy, and only about 40 km from Playa Jibacoa.

On this tour you will have the opportunity to combine snorkeling in the coral reef of a Protected Area, visit an ancient cave flooded to a depth of 20 meters, will travel Bellamar Caves with stalactites, stalagmites, crystallized domes and other formations as the source of love , are memorable moments of the trip.

The visit to the ruins of an old French coffee La Dionisia will make back in time to what were the plantations of the era of the early nineteenth century and savor a delicious Creole lunch.
