harrogate tourism awards

Royal Hall - Monday 3rd June

HHTA is proud to announce Harrogate’s Hospitality & Tourism Awards for 2024; now in its sixteenth year we aim to celebrate the best of the best amongst the people and businesses who represent our town’s leading industry in the form of Business and Leisure Tourism.

We want to celebrate and reward those individuals who truly represent Harrogate as one of the country’s best destinations for both business and leisure tourism. Harrogate is a successful, vibrant, and desirable location in which to both live and work, and much of it’s success is due to the millions of pounds generated annually into the town’s economy through tourism. To do this however, we have to have the very best people providing their very best day in day out and we have therefore decided to reward and congratulate these people through these awards.

Tickets for these prestigious awards and gala dinner are available by calling Linda Bradley on 01423 858585 or emailing [email protected].

Harrogate Hospitality and Tourism Awards return for 2022

The Harrogate ’s Hospitality and Tourism Awards will go ahead in 2022.

They were started  in 2008 by local hoteliers Simon Cotton and David Ritson along with the support of Harrogate’s Hotel Association.

The Awards themselves will be given out at a black tie dinner and party on Monday 6 June 2022 at the Royal Hall.

David and Simon urging everyone to get involved in this year.

David Ritson said: We appreciate that recent times have been difficult and that our industry has been affected as much as most. It is time to look to the future and rewarding your people by nominating them for these awards is a great accolade for them and a good opportunity to celebrate success with them.
Simon Cotton said: It was awful when we had to cancel the awards due to Covid , however I think this has just fuelled a build-up of emotions by people who want to get out and celebrate and thank those around them and if I’ve been asked once recently ‘when are the awards are coming back?. I’ve been asked a hundred times. This shows how important these awards are to those who enter and ultimately the winners of each category; I still feel very proud whenever I walk in a business and see them displaying their award trophies. We are looking for everyone in the tourism industry to join us again this year and get behind the awards; from the larger companies to independents, teams and individuals, we have an award that covers all that is great about the district, so we urge you to vote now for your favourite!

Supported by the Harrogate Hospitality & Tourism Association (Formerly Destination Harrogate), an association of venues in the town, these awards celebrate and reward outstanding individuals and teams who truly represent the Harrogate district.

The twelve award categories are:

  • Waiter/Waitress of the Year
  • Bar Person of the Year

Destination Harrogate is officially an award-winning destination management organisation. And celebrating after winning the Tourism Award at the Harrogate Business Excellence Awards 2022.

Now in their 17th year, the Harrogate Business Awards aim to recognise and celebrate the high level of business excellence in the Harrogate district. Award categories cover a broad base and include Best Independent Business, Best Rural Business, Sustainable Business Award and Technology Development Award amongst others, with entries judged by an independent panel of individuals from across the Harrogate district’s business community.

The Tourism Award is given to the organisation that can demonstrate the most significant contribution to improving the Harrogate district’s offering as a tourism destination in the award period.

Destination Harrogate won the award category for ‘ Destination Christmas ’, a successful and multi-faceted 2021 marketing campaign which, despite the challenges of the pandemic, attracted more visitors to the Harrogate district at Christmas time – a crucial time for businesses – to the benefit of local businesses; increased awareness of the Harrogate district as a perfect place to visit in the pre-Christmas period; and raised awareness of the district more generally as a first choice destination to visit for short breaks.

Planning is already well underway for Destination Harrogate’s next ‘Destination Christmas’ campaign and you can find out more here.

As well as a celebration of achievement throughout challenging times, the awards ceremony, which took place in person for the first time in two years following the pandemic, provided networking opportunities for local businesses and individuals from across the Harrogate district to catch up on current and future business plans in a face-to-face environment.

This year, Destination Harrogate supported the event by sponsoring the new Best Retail, Leisure and Hospitality Business Award, acknowledging the particular challenges faced by the sector while the pandemic was at its height.

Recognising the significant number of leisure and retail businesses that serve the local communities, as well as drive tourism, the award highlights excellence within the industry sector and was given to the HRH group, whose portfolio across the Harrogate district includes the White Hart Hotel, the Yorkshire, the Pickled Sprout and the Fat Badger.
