It's a tripA/trip B function and both set to 0 will count on both trips simultaneously. For example it allows a person to calculate a 1 way trip vs round trip. IE, with both trips set to 0 you take a 1300 mile drive from your home town to Miami. Both trip meters now show 1300.

ArF193. Just press and hold the button on the left of the steering wheel. This will reset the current trip (A or B depending) to 0. The button is on the dash near the left side of the steering column. It is mostly blocked from the driver's view by the steering wheel.

That's how it has been on my last three Subarus, so I assume the 2018 Touring works the same way. 2018 6MT Premium - with bits of a Limited thrown in, since Subaru hates MT trim ...
The Subaru schedule says 10,000kms for first oil change. The dealership said bring it in after 3000kms to check everything and do an oil change "after the break-in period". I took it in around 6500kms, as there was a recall I was already going in for. I didn't think it was totally necessary, but it was cheap enough that I figured it couldn't hurt.
Todd. Holding the stick down for 3-5 seconds will clear whichever tripometer currently appears on the screen. If you're always clearing A, B will continue to keep counting miles. So if you want to ever clear B you'll need to quickly push the stick on the left to change over to B and then hold it to clear those miles.

Refueling the car is the only way I know to 'reset' this indicator. It's often referred to on this forum as the exaggerometer because it tends to underestimate consumption so it's more of a guideline really. If you're truly concerned, keep manual records or use Fuelly.com for accurate consumption and comparison readings.

I also have an '03 XS, and my odometer is almost impossible to reset. It sounds like I have the exact same issue. Every time I try to reset the trip, my finger aches by the time I am done. I find that many times I need to start driving away from the gas station and maybe after I travel a block, it lets me reset it a little easier.
