Kwik Trip Opens Child-Care Facility at Headquarters

The Wisconsin company says the center will allow employees to better balance work and family life.

LA CROSSE, Wisc.—Kwik Trip announced the opening of Kwik Trip Kids Learning Center , an on-site child-care center at the company's headquarters in La Crosse, Wisconsin. The center offers full-time child care for Kwik Trip coworkers.

Kwik Trip said the new center will allow Kwik Trip coworkers the opportunity to balance their work and family life while providing high quality early education for their children.

“As a family-owned company, we are always looking for innovative ways to take care of our coworkers. Finding child care has been a stressful challenge for our coworkers. Our new Kwik Trip Kids Learning Center will be an important and much appreciated benefit for our people. We are delighted to partner with Bright Horizons who have so much expertise in this area,” said Paula Buttner, benefits manager at Kwik Trip.

Operated in partnership with Bright Horizons, the country's largest provider of employer-sponsored child care, Kwik Trip Kids Learning Center serves up to 168 children, ages six weeks through 12 years old. The center features a Discovery Driven Learning approach to inspire curiosity, health and safety policies backed by experts and educator-created curriculum to support school readiness.

“Bright Horizons is proud to partner with Kwik Trip to provide a high-quality child-care center for their coworkers,” said Tonya Glamann, regional manager at Bright Horizons. “We’re excited to be a part of their children’s first stage of learning here at the center. All our programs are geared to ensure children have the language, math, science and social skills they need for elementary school, and we’re also able to help parents incorporate learning experiences in their children’s home life as well.”

Sheetz offers an on-site child-care facility called Little Sproutz Early Learning Center at its operations support center in Claysburg, Pennsylvania, just south of its Altoona headquarters. The center is open to the children—and grandchildren—of the more than a thousand support workers at the Claysburg site.

Little Sproutz opens at 4:45 a.m. “We have employees who start very early. Sometimes employers forget employees need to get their children to care and then get to work on time,” Stephanie Doliveira, Sheetz’s vice president of human resources, told NACS Magazine .

Sheetz also partners with Bright Horizons. “We recognized early on that we are not the experts in early learning or child care,” Doliveira said.

Casey’s also provides on-site child care through its Child Development Center at its headquarters in Ankeny, Iowa. The center provides care for about 80 children every day, starting at 6:45 a.m. There are developmental programs for newborns through pre-kindergarten, and children up to 12 years old can attend during school breaks and the summer months. The center provides both full- and part-time care, in addition to drop-in options, according to Kate Petru, director of communications. “The child-care center is highly subsidized through Casey’s,” she said.

Kwik Trip opens new employee child care center

LA CROSSE, Wis. (WEAU) - Kwik Trip employees in the Coulee Region have a new option for child care.

The Kwik Trip Kids Learning Center is providing full-time child care for workers at the company’s La Crosse headquarters, production facilities, and regional stores.

“One of the things we’ve heard for many years from all of our co-workers is the stress and hassle of trying to find child care,” Kwik Trip Public Relations Director John McHugh said. " We are always at Kwik Trip trying to find innovative ways to take care of our employees, and we thought this would be a great initiative.”

McHugh adds that moving forward, the Kids Learning Center will be part of the benefits package employees in the La Crosse area receive.

The center is being managed by Bright Horizons , a company that specializes in employer-sponsored child care.

Vice President of Operations Jami Behrens says a growing number of businesses around the country are taking the same route as Kwik Trip.

“It’s a retention tool, it’s a recruitment tool because it’s so hard to compete with other companies, so they know this benefit is so well received, and can really impact for years,” Behrens shared. “It’s not just a one-time benefit, especially for families who have multiple children, so we are seeing a great demand for on-site child care as a benefit for employers.”

Up to 168 children can be cared for at the center, but Bright Horizons plans to start with approximately 60 before expanding further.

“We really want to get to know children, their dispositions, their temperaments, understand parents’ expectations, and really grow from there,” Behrens explained.

McHugh says if the Kids Learning Center is a success in La Crosse, Kwik Trip could open similar facilities in other areas of the state.

Bright Horizons is hoping to welcome children into the center as early as Sept. 6.
