Aurangabad is named after the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The city is a tourism hub, surrounded by many historical monuments, including the Ajanta Caves and Ellora Caves, which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, as well as Bibi Ka Maqbara and Panchakki. Aurangabad is titled "The City of Gates" and the strong presence of these can be felt as one drives through the city. The City was founded in 1610 by Malik Amber which in the year 2010 completed 400 years. Aurangabad is Tourism Capital of Maharashtra. The Ajanta Caves are about 30 rock-cut Buddhist cave monuments which date from the 2nd century BCE to about 480 or 650 CE. The caves include paintings and sculptures described by the government Archaeological Survey of India as "the finest surviving examples of Indian art, particularly painting", which are masterpieces of Buddhist religious art, with figures of the Buddha and depictions of the Jataka tales. The caves were built in two phases starting around the 2nd century BCE, with the second group of caves built around 400–650 CE. The site is a protected monument in the care of the Archaeological Survey of India, and since 1983, the Ajanta Caves have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Ellora is an archaeological site 29 km (18 mi) north-west of the city of Aurangabad in the Indian state of Maharashtra, built by the Rashtrakuta dynasty (Brahmanical & Buddhist group of caves) and Yadav (Jain group of caves). Well known for its monumental caves, Ellora is an UNESCO World Heritage Site and forms one of major tourist attraction. Ellora represents the epitome of Indian rock-cut architecture. The 34 "caves" are actually structures excavated out of the vertical face of the Charanandri hills. Hindu, Buddhist and Jain rock-cut temples and viharas and mathas were built between the 5th century and 10th century. The 17 Hindu (caves 13–29), 12 Buddhist (caves 1–12) and 5 Jain (caves 30–34) caves, built in proximity, demonstrate the religious harmony prevalent during this period of Indian history. It is a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India.

Aurangabad - ajanta - ellora tour program:.

Day 1: Departure from Mumbai to Aurangabad by AC Sleeper. overnight journey.

Day 2: On arrival at Aurangabad, Check-in to the hotel. After fresh up, visit Ghrishneshwar temple, Ellora Caves, Bhadra Maruti and Daulatabad Fort. After that proceed to Aurangabad visit Bibi KaMaqbara, Pan chakki, Overnight stay at Aurangabad.

Day 3: After breakfast, proceed to Ajanta caves (110 Kms/2 ½ Hrs.). Visit the caves. Night journey to Mumbai.

Day 4: Morning arrival at Mumbai

Pick up: Magarpatta - Swargate – KasbaPeth – Aundh – DangeChowk – Wakad

Arrive Mumbai

Upon arrival at Mumbai airport meet with our representative and transfer to your pre-booked hotel. Overnight stay at hotel.

After breakfast we will leave for an excellent sightseeing tour of Mumbai's most iconic sites starting with a visit to the Gateway of India; further we will visit The Prince of Wales Museum, and a stop at Mani Bhavan, the house where Mahatma Gandhi used to stay during his visits to Mumbai.

We will also drive along the Marine Drive and visit the Hanging Gardens. Stop off at Colaba Causeway before returning to your hotel. Later transfer to the hotel for overnight stay.

Mumbai - Aurangabad - Ellora Caves

After breakfast transfer to the airport to board the flight for Aurangabad. Upon arrival meet with our representative and transfer to the hotel. After fresh-n-up we will go on an excursion tour to Ellora Caves. The caves are over 2000 years old and consist of temples and monasteries hewn from rocks by Buddhist, Hindu and Jains monks and craftsmen. Ellora is a World Heritage Site and represents the epitome of Indian rock-cut architecture. The 34 "caves" - actually structures excavated out of the vertical face of the Charanandri hills. The 12 Buddhist (caves 1-12), 17 Hindu (caves 13-29) and 5 Jain (caves 30-34) caves, built in proximity, demonstrate the religious harmony prevalent during this period of Indian history. It is a protected monument under the Archaeological Survey of India. (Ellora caves are closed on Tuesday). Later return to hotel for overnight stay.

Aurangabad - Ajanta Caves

Morning after breakfast drive to Ajanta via Aurangabad to have full day excursion to Ajanta Caves - they are cut from the volcanic lavas of the Deccan trap in a steep crescent - shaped hillside in a forested ravine of the sahyadri hills, These caves are older than those at Ellora consisting of 24 monasteries and temples hewn out of solid rack. The wall paintings and frescoes of these caves are a wealth of colors, Proceed to Civic - cum - Cultural Complex, a gallery of local art and crafts and shopping complex. (Ajanta caves are closed on Monday). Later return to the hotel. After fresh-n-up enjoy local city sightseeing tour visiting Bibi Ka Maqbara - situated about 3 km from the city is Bibi Ka Maqbara, the burial place of Aurangzeb's wife, Rabia-ud-Durrani. It is an imitation of the Taj at Agra and due to its similar design, it is popularly known as the Mini Taj of the Deccan.

Also visit Panchakki (water mill), housed in the Dargah complex of Baba Shah Musafir, it is a 17th century an intriguing water mill, it is famous for its underground water channel, which traverses more than 8 km to its source away in the mountains. Later transfer to the hotel for overnight stay.

Aurangabad - Mumbai

After breakfast transfer to the airport to board the flight for Mumbai. Upon arrival meet with our representative and transfer to the hotel. Evening free for own activity or enjoy rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay at hotel.

Day 01: Arrive Mumbai and Elephanta Caves Excursion

On arrival in Mumbai, you will be picked from the airport and will be driven towards the Gateway of India Ferry Dock to board a ferry that will take you to Elephanta Island. On arrival at the Elephanta Caves, hop on the toy train to reach the foot of the caves. Elephanta Caves are set of two cave groups, five Hindu & two Buddhist caves and the rock-cut cave architecture belongs to 5th -8th century.

Board a ferry and return back to the Gateway of India ferry dock. Enjoy the ferry ride and later you would be transferred to the hotel. Spend the evening at leisure and enjoy an overnight stay at the hotel in Mumbai.

Day 02: Mumbai sightseeing and Flight to Aurangabad

After the breakfast, check out from the hotel and head for the sightseeing tour of Mumbai. Starting with Hanging Gardens , a beautiful garden located in Malabar Hills (an affluent residential area) famous for beautiful sunset views. Visit Mani Bhawan Gandhi Museum , a mansion that was the center of political activities of Mahatma Gandhi and it served as headquarters for around 17 years. The building has a photo exhibition of the Mahatma’s life and some memorabilia like Old Charkha.

Next visit, the Prince of Wales Museum , now called Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya to catch a glimpse from outside. The foundation stone was laid in 1905 by Prince of Wales and the building was completed in 1914. The museum has around 50000 artifacts from art, archaeology, natural history, and forestry.

A drive through colonial buildings Mumbai University and High Court of Bombay will take you on an adventurous journey. In the afternoon, you will be transferred to the airport in Mumbai to board the scheduled flight to Aurangabad. On arrival in Aurangabad, you will be picked up from the airport and transferred to the hotel by private air-conditioned car.

Day 03: Ajanta & Ellora Caves and Flight to Mumbai

After a delicious breakfast, check out from the hotel and enjoy the ride towards the Ajanta Caves, it would be a journey of 100 Kms in around 3 hrs. Ajanta Caves are one of the oldest UNESCO World Heritage Site and it is a set of 29 Buddhist caves beautifully treasured in the hills. There are beautiful paintings and carvings the best example of Indian Art. This UNESCO Heritage Site also has huge pillars, Stupas & ceilings with carvings that are beautiful to watch. You will find Buddhist philosophy & religious teachings of the Buddha depicted through paintings & sculptures.

After exploring Ajanta caves, we will head towards the Ellora caves. The drive towards Ellora caves would be 95 Kms in around 2 hrs. Ellora Caves are one of the largest rock-cut monastery temples and are a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is famous for monuments of Jainism, Buddhism & Hinduism and the Kailasha Temple, the artwork of monolithic single rock excavation. It has 12 Buddhist caves, 5 Jain temples, and 17 Hindu temples.

After the sightseeing, you will be dropped at the airport to board the flight for Mumbai. On arrival in Mumbai, you will be transferred to the hotel by air-conditioned vehicle. Relax overnight at the hotel in Mumbai.

Day 04: Shopping in Mumbai & Departure to Airport

After breakfast, check out from the hotel and be ready for shopping at Crawford Market / Colaba Causeway. These are famous shopping destinations in Mumbai, while Colaba Causeway sells items such as handicrafts, jewelry, crystals, clothes, brass items, the Crawford Market , an old-style market, is famous for selling fruit, vegetables, spices, food, flowers, birds, fish, and other pets.

After a shopping experience, you will be dropped back at the Airport in Mumbai to board the flight.

At a distance of 9 km from Nashik Central Bus Station, Muktidham is a marble temple complex located at Deolali Gaon on the suburbs of Nashik. Post a leisurely breakfast in the morning visit the famous Sai Baba Temple. The rest of the day is free to explore the sights and sounds of Shirdi. Later return to the hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Post breakfast in the morning leave from Shirdi to Aurangabad .On the way visit famous Shani Shingnapur Temple, which is around 168 km from Shirdi. Later Visit the famous Ellora Caves which is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It represents the epitome of Indian rock-cut architecture. In the evening return back to the hotel for overnight stay.

Ajanta Caves-

Post breakfast in the morning embark on a full day excursion to Ajanta Caves. The Ajanta Caves have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983. Here you can enjoy excellent view and perspective of the Kailash temple by climbing up the hill around it. It has immense size covers twice the area of the Pantheon in Athens and 1.5 times as high. In the evening return back to the hotel for an overnight stay.

Mumbai is the commercial capital of India, commonly called the City of Dreams. Tourists explore the city and surrounding attractions like Shirdi and Aurangabad. Check the Mumbai vacation package itinerary from GT Holidays if you want to visit these places.

Day 1 : Arrive in Mumbai

Upon arriving at the Mumbai Airport, our tour managers will welcome you and take you to Shirdi, a temple town famous for the Sai Baba Temple. On the way, you will visit the Triambakeshwar Temple in Nashik, believed to house one of the 12 jyotirlingas. Don’t miss the Panchavati Wildlife Sanctuary, which houses tigers, leopards, hyenas, and over 300 species of birds. Spend the night in Nashik.

Day 2 : Aurangabad Tour

Today, you will visit Shani Shingnapur. This village is famous for the Shani Shingnapur Temple, which is dedicated to Lord Shani. The main deity is placed in an open place without a roof. Also, the houses within the village do not have doors as there is no theft—the locals believe that Lord Shani punishes people who go astray. Spend the night in Nashik.

Day 3 : Ajanta and Ellora Caves

Today, you will drive to the Ajanta and Ellora Caves, which are about a 3-hour drive apart. These caves are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The site comprises 30 rock-cut Buddhist monuments carved between the 5th and 6th centuries BCE, with the earliest excavations around the 7th century BCE. Return to Nashik to spend the night.

Day 4 : Aurangabad City Tour

Today, you will explore the Ellora Caves, a series of rock-cut cave temples dating back from the 5th to the 12th centuries. The Ellora is also home to the Kailasa Temple, built during the 7th century by the Rashtrakuta King Krishna I. This is the largest monolithic rock-cut monument, 300 feet long and 175 feet wide. You will also visit the Grishneshwar Temple, Bibi-ka-Maqbara, and the Daulatabad Fort during the Aurangabad tour. Return to your hotel to spend the night in Nashik.

Day 5 : Departure

Today, you will check out of the hotel to head to Mumbai. You can explore places in Mumbai City before catching your return train/flight back home.
