Oceania Marina Will Undergo Extensive Refurbishment in May 2024

Oceania Cruises’ ship Marina will offer three new culinary venues and a refreshed look when she emerges from dry dock next spring.

Premium-plus cruise line Oceania Cruises has announced that its 1,250-passenger ship Marina will receive a comprehensive renovation in May 2024.

Three new dining options will be added to Oceania Marina as part of the refurbishment. The ship will offer Aquamar Kitchen , a new wellness-focused dining venue that debuted on Vista earlier this year. Marina will also offer a new casual alfresco trattoria serving Italian dishes including freshly-made pizzas and an expanded poolside ice cream parlor serving creative flavors along with milkshakes and smoothies.

Marina is the last of Oceania Cruises’ current fleet to be refurbished. The brand’s eighth ship, Allura , is set to debut in spring 2025.

“ Marina is a ship designed by foodies, built by foodies, for foodies,” said Frank A. Del Rio , president of Oceania Cruises. “We are renowned for serving The Finest Cuisine at Sea, and this is not just a tagline, it is a mantra which we have built the business around. Food is the foundation of what we do onboard each of our ships, and globally, in the destinations we visit.”

“This refresh of Marina will see her updated to offer three exciting new dining venues. We are especially thrilled to expand the Aquamar Kitchen concept to Marina , following its incredible reception from guests since it was unveiled aboard Vista in May,” Del Rio continued in a press release .

New dining options on Oceania Marina

Oceania Marina and her sister ship Riviera were the first cruise ships ever to feature an onboard cooking school and boast more galley space and more fresh food storage than any other Oceania ship.

According to the cruise line, Oceania Cruises has the highest percentage of culinary personnel devoted to the dining experience than any other cruise company. To ensure the quality of each dish, the line employs one chef for every ten guests, and half of the crew onboard is dedicated to cooking or serving food.

Aquamar Kitchen, a new Oceania Cruises signature restaurant with wellness-inspired meals, is one of the exciting culinary additions coming to Marina . Smoothies, cold-pressed juices, and energy bowls will be among the breakfast options. The lunch menu will offer healthy choices including avocado toast and internationally-influenced salads and wraps. Among the heartier alternatives are tacos made with yellowfin tuna, an Impossible Burger, and a crispy chicken sandwich.

To complement the wellness-inspired cuisine, the beverage menu at Aquamar will showcase a range of award-winning non-alcoholic wines, including Pierre Zero from France, along with an assortment of mocktails made with Lyre’s non-alcoholic spirits . Like all other onboard restaurants on Oceania, guests can dine for free at Aquamar Kitchen, which will be available for breakfast and lunch. Reservations will not be required.

In the evening, Waves Grill will transform into an alfresco trattoria featuring freshly-made pizzas, grilled Italian specialties, spicy dry-rubbed chicken wings, salads, rosemary focaccia with burrata, and a range of indulgent desserts.

For more sweet treats, an all-day ice cream parlor will be added to the pool deck. The venue will offer favorite flavors—including options from artisan ice cream maker Humphry Slocombe —plus milkshakes and smoothies.

After the refurbishment, Oceania Cruises’ signature pairing dinners from La Reserve —including the Odyssey Menu and the Dom Pérignon Experience—will now be featured in Privée , Marina ‘s exclusive private dining area.

Marina will feature refurbished suites and public spaces

Along with the three new dining venues, Marina ‘s public and private spaces will also receive a refresh to provide a bright new atmosphere. Upper Suites will feature a completely new design, with thoughtfully crafted additional features that the cruise line promises will make them appear lighter, brighter, and even more spacious.

Penthouse Suites will be fully renovated with new carpets and upholstery, modern lighting, custom-crafted furnishings, and small touches like more outlets and USB ports. Additionally, new closets and cupboards will increase the amount of storage space available to guests. Bathrooms will feature a streamlined redesign with signature Italian marble throughout, plenty of drawer space, and roomy oversized showers.

Public spaces including Martinis, Horizons, The Grand Dining Room, and Library will be updated with plush new carpets and refreshed upholstery. The classic steakhouse Polo Grill will boast new carpet, chic window treatments, and updated dining chair designs.

The refurbished Oceania Marina will debut on May 18, 2024, just in time for the summer cruise season.

We are booked on the Transatlantic Nov 7, 2025. We are wondering what people wear to dinner and what weather we should expect on the crossing. Last year we did Celebrity Beyond from Ft Lauderdale

Hi Cheri, I've done several transatlantics in November and the weather can really vary! I looked up your cruise and I see that it's Barcelona to Miami - I just did a similar voyage on another line last year. Obviously day-to-day conditions can change (rain, a cold snap, strong winds etc.), but you'll be taking a southern route across the ocean so temps should be pleasantly warm during your crossing. I tend to pack layers that all coordinate in case of unexpectedly chilly weather. On this last crossing we had a few days where the wind was strong enough that they closed the open decks, so I made use of the jeans and cardigans I had packed!

As for what to wear to dinner, I'd recommend watching some of Gary Bembridge's YouTube videos. His channel is called Tips for Travellers and he has quite a few videos for Oceania first timers. Happy cruising!

Oceania Cruises Refurbishment Initiative For All Four Ships

Oceania cruises refurbishment – it’s so much more than that….

Oceania Cruises recently announced its newest initiative, OceaniaNEXT – a wide array of major refurbishments to increase the guest experience. The first phase of the initiative is the $100 million re-inspiration of the line’s four older ships from the Regatta class, Regatta , Insignia , Sirena and Nautica , which will transform these 684-guest ships into “four better-than-new ships”. Not your average cruise ship refurbishment.

oceania cruise ship refurbishment schedule

Inspired by the line’s 450 different ports of call, the ships will have re-designed décor in the staterooms, restaurants, lounges and bars. Phase One of OceaniaNEXT will outfit all four ships with 342 redone suites and staterooms. Insignia, the first to make a debut returns on December 7, 2018 followed by Sirena in May 2019. Regatta should finish renovations in September 2019 and finally, Nautica in June 2020.

President and CEO of Oceania Cruises, Bob Binder describes these ships as second homes to guests and said that, “They don’t build ships like this anymore, which is why this re-inspiration project is such an important milestone.” By re-designing these small, intimate ships, they are setting new standards of luxury in the same intimate settings.

Studio DADO based out of Miami, FL specializes in luxury and residential hospitality and design and is spearheading Oceania Cruises refurbishment. The re-inspiration project will cost $100 million dollars, will include a total of 1,368 new suites and staterooms, 1,400 new marble bathrooms, 8,000 new light fixtures and $12,000 in new sofas and chairs spread across four re-inspired ships by over 1,000 artisans and craftsmen.

A sparkling new Grand Staircase framed by intricate railings and balustrades inset with crystal accents will welcome guests onboard. Overhead, a crowning grand chandelier adorned with hanging pieces of smoked and hand-painted glass will set the space aglow.

The new staterooms are going to be lighter and brighter to make guests feel more at home which is one of Oceania’s ultimate goals with the re-design project. The stateroom portion is the most dramatic part of the redesign program. Oceania used the phrase, surprisingly new but delightfully familiar to describe this dramatic re-design.

As part of the first phase of OceaniaNEXT, each ship will come back into service with 342 new designer suites and staterooms, as well as new décor inspired by Oceania’s destinations in its restaurants, lounges, and bars. Insignia will return to service on Dec. 7, 2018; Sirena in May 2019; Regatta in September 2019; and Nautica in June 2020.

Three New Culinary Venues to Be Added: Wellness-Focused Aquamar Kitchen; a Relaxed Al Fresco Pizzeria and an All-Day Ice Cream Parlor

MIAMI , Nov. 21, 2023 /PRNewswire/ --  Oceania Cruises , the world's leading culinary- and destination-focused cruise line, announced that its 1,250-passenger ship, Marina , will undergo an all-encompassing refurbishment in May 2024. The refurbishment will include the addition three new dining options: Aquamar Kitchen, the new wellness-focused dining venue which debuted on Vista this year; an expanded poolside ice cream parlor serving milkshakes and smoothies, plus inventive flavors from artisan ice cream company Humphry Slocombe; and a new casual al fresco trattoria offering sumptuous Italian dishes, including freshly-made pizzas.

Image of the exterior of Marina

Marina  is the last of Oceania Cruises' current fleet to be refurbished and means that the line boasts eight new, or better-than-new, ships. Its eighth ship, Allura , is set to launch in Spring 2025.

" Marina is a ship designed by foodies, built by foodies, for foodies," said Frank A. Del Rio, President of Oceania Cruises. "We are renowned for serving The Finest Cuisine at Sea, and this is not just a tagline, it is a mantra which we have built the business around. Food is the foundation of what we do onboard each of our ships, and globally, in the destinations we visit.

"This refresh of Marina will see her updated to offer three exciting new dining venues. We are especially thrilled to expand the Aquamar Kitchen concept to Marina , following its incredible reception from guests since it was unveiled aboard Vista in May."

Marina  and her sister Riviera were the very first true foodie ships in the world and are now joined by Vista and Allura . Marina and Riviera were the first ships ever to have an onboard cooking school and have more galley space and more fresh food storage than any other ship. Oceania Cruises has the highest percentage of culinary personnel devoted to the dining experience than any other cruise company. To ensure the impeccable quality of each dish, the line has one chef for every ten guests; half of the crew onboard is dedicated to the cooking or serving of food.

One of the exciting culinary additions to Marina will be Aquamar Kitchen, a new Oceania Cruises signature restaurant which presents wellness-inspired menus, with a hint of indulgence, sure to satisfy even the most discerning palate. At breakfast, the smoothies, cold-pressed juices and energy bowls shine, while at lunch the avocado toast selections and globally inspired salads and wraps are incredibly flavorful and satisfying. Heartier options include an Impossible™ burger, yellowfin tuna tacos and a crunchy chicken sandwich among several others.

To reflect the wellness-inspired dishes, the beverage menu will feature a selection of premium, award-winning non-alcoholic wines, Pierre Zero from France as well as a refreshing collection of mocktails crafted with Lyre's non-alcoholic spirits. Aquamar Kitchen will be open for breakfast and lunch and does not require reservations, and as with all other onboard restaurants, is complimentary for guests.

In the evening, Waves Grill will transform into an al fresco trattoria featuring freshly made pizzas, succulently grilled Italian specialties, spicy dry-rubbed chicken wings, tantalizing salads, rosemary focaccia with lush burrata and indulgent desserts.

For guests with a sweet tooth, an all-day ice cream parlor will be added to the pool deck. Filled with favorite flavors, including options from Humphry Slocombe, plus milkshakes and smoothies, it is sure to entice guests for an afternoon poolside treat.

With the addition of Aquamar Kitchen, Oceania Cruises' signature pairing dinners featured in La Reserve will be showcased in Privée, Marina's exclusive private dining space. This intimate venue will host culinary aficionados for long-standing favorite pairing menus of La Reserve, including the Odyssey Menu and the Dom Pérignon Experience.

In addition to the three new dining options, Marina 's private and public spaces will be refreshed to showcase a radiant new ambiance. All upper suites will be reimagined with a revamped look, to become lighter, brighter and seemingly even more spacious thanks to cleverly designed new features. Classic steakhouse Polo Grill will also be enhanced with new carpet, stylish window treatments and a fresh design of the dining chairs.

The Penthouse Suites will be completely refurbished with custom-crafted furniture as well as new closets and cabinetry to increase guest storage space, plus new carpets and upholstery, updated modern lighting and thoughtful details such as more outlets and USB ports. Each Penthouse Suite will have a sleek restyled bathroom, with distinctive Italian marble throughout, abundant drawer space, and generous over-sized showers, offering the elegant residential luxury for which Oceania Cruises is renowned.

Favorite public spaces including Martinis, Horizons, The Grand Dining Room and Library will be elegantly updated with plush new carpets and refreshed upholstery, reflecting a renewed sense of grandeur while maintaining the home-away-from-home ambiance.

The refurbished ship will debut on May 18, 2024, and while the ship will undergo significant cosmetic changes, rest assured that one aspect will remain constant and unchanged: Oceania Cruises' trademark warm and personalized service. Whether guests are sailing for the first time or the fifteenth, they will note the ease with which the staff remembers their names and their preferences along with the genuine smiles and enthusiasm that can only come from the heart.

Oceania Cruises’ Riviera and Marina will undergo multi-million dollar refurbishments as part of the line’s OceaniaNEXT initiative. The rebuilds will see all 1,210 suites and staterooms on each ship completely redesigned, as well as a total transformation of all public spaces.

No area of the ships will be untouched, with every surface of every suite and stateroom replaced with all-new fabrics, furnishings, lighting fixtures, marble, art pieces and more. Riviera and Marina will debut as “better than new” in December 2022 and November 2023, respectively.

“At Oceania Cruises, we continue to raise the bar and elevate the guest experience at every opportunity,” said Howard Sherman, president and CEO of Oceania. “Whether it’s innovative new culinary concepts, immersive new destination experiences, or presenting our guests with ships that are not just better, but better than new, Oceania Cruises sets the standard by which others are judged.”

Staterooms & Suites From wall to wall and floor to ceiling, every inch of the suites and staterooms onboard Riviera and Marina will be replaced. Custom-crafted furnishings, Italian marble, polished wood finishes and designer accessories will highlight the changes. Each room will have added storage space, multiple outlets, new USB ports, and bathrooms will be restyled with oversized showers.

Public Spaces As with the suites and staterooms, all of the public spaces onboard will be reimagined including the Grand Dining Room, the centerpiece of which will be a glittery chandelier.

New to the ships will be an outdoor Trattoria featuring wood-fired pizzas, grilled Italian specialties, salads and desserts every evening in a relaxed setting.

Debut Sailings Riviera will debut on December 7 on a 16-day Mediterranean, Atlantic and Caribbean cruise from Rome to Miami. A season of seven to 14-day Caribbean sailings from Miami to the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America will follow. The ship returns to Europe in late March 2023.

Marina is set to debut on November 13, 2023 on a seven-day cruise from Barcelona to Lisbon. From Lisbon, the ship will reposition to Miami where it will kick off its annual South America season on December 3, 2023.

OceaniaNEXT Riviera and Marina are the last ships in the fleet to undergo an OceaniaNEXT refurbishment. Insignia, Regatta and Sirena went under the knife in 2019. Nautica’s refurbishment was completed this year with the ship returning to service just this month.

Oceania Riviera Itineraries

Oceania riviera review, review of oceania riviera.

The 2012-built Oceania Riviera cruise ship is one of the fleet's newest , with sistership Marina . Both liners were constructed by Fincantieri's Sestri Ponente shipyard (in Genoa Italy ) and designed by the Norwegian marine architecture company Y&S "Petter Yran and Bjorn Storbratten".

The vessel (IMO number 9438078) is currently Marshall Islands /France- flagged (MMSI 538004353) and registered in Majuro .

A modified version of this design is Oceania's new ALLURA-Class represented by the ships  Vista (2023) and Allura (2025).

History - construction and ownership

Oceania Cruises is a US passenger shipping company and luxury travel brand owned by NCLH-Norwegian (shipowner), Between April 2007 and September 2014, the company (as part of "Prestige Cruise Holdings") was owned by Apollo Management LP - one of the world's largest private investment equity funds. Since September 2014, Oceania and the sister company RSSC-Regent are owned by NCLH - acquired at a total cost of USD 3 billion. Oceania ships offer luxury cruises with relatively shorter itineraries, as well as Around The World voyages up to 180 days in length.

Oceania Riviera cruise ship

The 1300-passenger ship Riviera was launched on May 11, 2012. MS Riviera's godmother was "Iron Chef" and Food Network star Cat Cora, a fitting choice for a cruise company that is aimed at enthusiastic foodies.

In February 2016, Oceania Cruises won six "best for" awards for the luxurious mid-sized mv Riviera, voted for by Cruise Critic readers. The sophisticated ship dominated by being voted for having the best service, dining, staterooms, public rooms and embarkation process on board. Not only this, but Oceania Cruises was also cited in the top 5 in an additional 3 categories. Oceania Riviera awards are in the following categories: Best Cruise Ship for Embarkation, Best Cruise Ship for Dining, Best Cruises Ship for Service, Best Cruise Ship Cabins, Best Cruise Ship Public Rooms and Best Cruises Overall. Riviera features the 5-star luxury that Oceania has always been well known for. The cruise ship reflects the line’s key pillars of service, comfort and the finest cuisine at sea.

Decks and Cabins

Oceania Riviera staterooms (629 total, in 17 grades) include 147 Suites, 444 Balcony, 20 Oceanview, 18 Interior. Most (94%) are the 240 ft2 / 22 m2 sized Balcony cabins. The largest passenger accommodations are the aft-facing Owners Suites (1335 ft2 / 124 m2 plus 665 ft2 / 62 m2 wraparound terrace).

The boat has 15 decks , of which 12 are passenger-accessible and 6 with cabins.

Shipboard dining options - Food and Drinks

Oceania Cruises Riviera ship offers four reservations-only restaurants, plus a buffet restaurant and casual snack spots. Speciality restaurants come with no additional charge but require reservations. The most high-profile of all is Jacques, the first restaurant ever created, on land or sea, by celebrity chef Jacques Pepin. Jacques is designed with the feel of a French bistro and focuses on traditional French cuisine. Other speciality restaurants include the Polo Grill steakhouse and the Mediterranean Toscana - both carry-overs from the earlier ships of the line, and Red Ginger, which is an excellent pan-Asian spot.

Follows the complete list of Riviera restaurants and food bars.

  • Red Ginger (feng shui Asian specialty restaurant with a 5-course “tasting” and a la carte menu)

  • Privee (a limited capacity private dining room, between Toscana and Polo, 10-seat, charge $1000 for the entire room; features Chef’s Table and 7-course gourmet menu)
  • In October 2015, Oceania announced its plan to combine the Toscana and Polo Grill speciality restaurants into a new venue - “Tuscan Steak”, with quality wood paneling decorated with platinum and silver. The gourmet dinner menu of the new restaurant includes items, such as “Bistecca alla Fiorentina”, “Maine Lobster & Shrimp Fra Diavol”, “Tuscan Porterhouse Steak”, and the signature pork chops of Oceania Cruises “Iberico de Bellota”. At the entrance, there is a wine cellar with a selection of fine wines.

During the ship's last refurbishments were introduced three new dining venues/options: Aquamar Kitchen, Ice Cream Bar (poolside) and Alfresco Pizzeria (at Waves Grill in the evenings).

Aquamar Kitchen is a wellness-themed dining venue (introduced on Oceania Vista in 2023). This signature restaurant is complimentary and without reservations. It offers wellness-inspired food and beverages including smoothies, fresh-pressed juices, mocktails (made with Lyre’s Non-Alcoholic Spirits), energy bowls, avocado toasts, salads, wraps, tuna tacos, chicken sandwiches, Oceania's "Impossible Burger".

The poolside Ice Cream Bar serves the gourmet Humphry Slocombe Ice Cream as well as milkshakes and smoothies.

Waves Grill in the evenings transforms into an alfresco trattoria/Pizzeria/casual restaurant serving Italian food including fresh-baked pizza (by the slice), burrata and gourmet desserts.

Oceania Riviera ship is sister to the fleetmate ms Marina . The vessel was christened on May 11, 2012, in Barcelona. Her Godmother is the professional chef Cat Cora, the "Iron Chef" of America. Her Inaugural cruise was in the region of the Mediterranean Sea. It started in Italy (Venice) and ended ten days later in Greece (Athens).

On September 2, 2014, the NCL Norwegian company purchased the company "Prestige Cruise Holdings" (owner of Oceania and  RSSC-Regent Seven Seas ) for USD 3,025 billion, thus becoming the official owner of all vessels in both fleets.

The Apollo Group company provides all Oceania ships with the entire onboard hotel product and services. This includes administration, food staff (preparation and serving), housekeeping staff, also the vessel's provisioning and crewing. Other cruise lines served by Apollo are Thomson UK (Marella Cruises)  and RSSC-Regent .

Oceania Riviera 2019 refurbishment review

The ship's drydock refurbishment in April 2019 (an OceaniaNEXT project) resulted in several deckplan changes (details to be announced soon). What is known so far is adding a new cabin category (Owner Suite) designed by Trevor R. Howells (Los Angeles-based interior design firm).

Owner Suites are 2-room cabins furnished with Ralph Lauren Home furniture. The color scheme is white-navy blue-camel-creme. Upholstery and fabrics are in melange (stripes and solids), with pops in silver-gold-metallic. The Suite's foyer features premium wood paneling and stone flooring (limestone, black cabochon). The in-cabin bar is mahogany and with a quartzite stone top.

The suite's living room has floor-ceiling windows, Grimaldi-weave sail white fabrics, self-playing piano (made from polished ebony-black hardwood), sectional sofa (with navy blue cushions), mahogany lounge chair. The suite's dining room has a Mayfair table and Barrett Medium Knurled chandelier (natural brass). The Master Bedroom has a King-size bed, Mayfair Bergere armchairs, nickel-trimmed lighting.

The Suite's wraparound balcony is premium teak-floored and fitted with custom-made (by Ralph Lauren) outdoor lounge furniture.

During drydock 2022 (Nov-Dec, at Chantiers Naval de Marseille ), all staterooms were fully refurbished, new culinary options were added. All public spaces (hallways, stairs, bars, lounges, dining venues/Grand Dining Room, Polo Grill) were also renovated, receiving new furnishings, fabrics, lighting fixtures, artworks, Tuscan marble. The hull's underwater portion was cleaned and repainted with AQUATERRAS (Biocide Free Self-Polishing Coating paint by Nippon Paint Marine Coatings Co Ltd/subsidiary of Japan's Nippon Paint Holdings Co Ltd).
