As with all insurance companies

As with all insurance companies, they will take your money any number of ways but when it comes time to provide good customer serive the fine print is never in the claimants favor. Hidden in some obscure reference is a loop hole that absolves them of any responsibiliy. AND they will not provide you with that information. Wasted money on this company. Save your money .... enjoy the trip and spend the saved money on a more memorable expense.

This is worse insurance company I have dealt with in decades do not use. They do not care about you at all this is the under writter for CAA avoid period. It takes a lot to get me upset and they managed to do that.

Thanks for nothing

I was on a cruise and needed medical attention . I kept all my paperwork and contacted Orion upon my return . I sent numerous emails with no return . I then talked to 3 different Orion agents over 5 months , all assuring me the necessary forms would be sent by mail . Nothing . Assured I would receive all forms via email for prompt courteous service . Nothing . I doubt Orion personnel read these blogs or else these claims would be answered . If there is a lesson to be learned it is to check reviews of different companies before purchasing in order to prevent this activity from happening again .

I picked this insurance company because I thought that CAA was good !! Wrong Caa ! big mistake to go with Orión you can't even speak to anyone there . I paid travel insurance for a year , I got sick in Florida called the insurance told me to go to hospital this was in Feb we're in June now I have received 4 letters from the hospital demanding payment .there going to send me to colection !! Unreliable company !! Don't not go with them because Caa was good because that company is garbage !!

Travelled to Mexico in Jan 2020 and needed some medical attention . The contact emergency number indicated on the wallet size card did not work! I then called the 1-800 number and reached customer service in Ontario...I told her my situation and She put me on hold so she could find where I should go to get treatment. She had trouble finding the location where I was, never mind where to go! I was then told to seek my own help and then submit a claim...So unprofessional I will not be using CAA insurance in the future for travel! Disappointed in Ontario

Stay away from CAA

Stay away from CAA. Orion does NOT reimburse nothing. I have bank statements indicating what I paid and received back from flight cancellation but the agency still kept their profit and Orion declined my reimbursement. Paid $300 for full coverage for a year for NOTHING. They are NOT here to help you. They are a business that keeps ALL of your hard earned money. Imagine if I had a REAL emergency, do you really think they would help? NO! Going to report them to better business bureau for Orion and CAA. Never again with those companies.

This company has played the game of…

This company has played the game of asking for information that has been provided multiple times. I have waited since April 2020 for a completely legitimate trip interruption due to Covid for $18,000. We had emergency flights home that very clearly fall u see the scope of the insurance. It is Dec 29 and not one dollar has been paid out on my claim. They are scammers and CAA should not be connected to Orion or selling their scam insurance. Orion has made a number of unnecessary hoops to jump through which I have completed and 8 months later they have not reimbursed a single cent of the insurance that I bought from CAA. Do not ever use this insurance company. Orion is a scam.

Orion insurance is useless

I as well purchased Orion premium travel insurance prior to covid and our departure date was in May. Its now September and there still "working" on it. I'm cancelling my AMA membership and I will never ever use any of there services again.

Never Again with this Company

I purchased cancellation insurance for an April 2020 cruise however while in Mexico I had emergency surgery in February. On returning home in mid March, my own Doctor advised me not too travel as I was still recovering. I provided Orion with the Doctors letter, the surgery transcript, the cruiselines cancellation as well as Orions own required documents and on March 26th and here we are , September 7th still waiting. I can't believe CAA would sell this company's insurance. It's useless.

Date of experience : September 07, 2020

Easy and painless to submit claim and received more reimbursement than expected.

I purchased my travel insurance through CAA and they sold me a policy through Orion. While I was traveling abroad, my father passed away, so I had to make an unexpected trip back home. I contacted Orion and was on hold for a half hour, but eventually I did get through. They confirmed that my travel insurance would cover up to $1000 CAD for a return flight home. This was also written in the policy. They started my claim and emailed me the paperwork. I bought my return ticket departing the next morning, costing $1469.60. I was flying from Australia to Canada and this was the least expensive option I could find. Ten days later, I submitted all the forms and documents to Orion through their online platform. Three and a half weeks later, I received an email saying my claim had been reviewed and they'd sent me a payment for the eligible expenses. Much to my surprise, it said they covered the full cost of my flight and sent me a payment for $1469.60, instead of $1000. I checked my bank account and they did indeed send the full amount. I'm very grateful. I'm also impressed how easy it was.

Date of experience : April 18, 2023

Although all documents were supplied, they asked for information from my travel agent. She emailed them right away. Over a month later, they asked my travel agent for the exact same information. They told me they don't have documents and when I pointed out that they were supplied with the original claim and gave them the attachment name, they were surprised. When I originally filed my claim at the end of March, it was a 60 day turn around. It is now 135 days since I filed my claim and they are still playing the insurance company games. DO NOT USE THEM!

Date of experience : August 13, 2020

Not ethical.

Not ethical. Purchased insurance from CAA in good faith for a flight in March. My husband was ill and that’s why I bought it. Covid wasn’t an issue here. I’ve jumped through every hoop. Provided all requested documentation. I’m a senior. Trip was to see a friend whose husband died. I didn’t want a flight credit. Not going to use it. Why would I stay with CAA? So disappointed.

Date of experience : September 11, 2020

Purchased an annual multi travel…

Purchased an annual multi travel insurance package for my husband and I. As a result of covid trips were cancelled and one trip I submitted a claim for $50 only as the tour company kept 10 percent of the deposit. I submitted in May 2020 with all the necessary documents/info. Matter of fact I had to submit again, even travel company submitted information for clarification, now before appeal. If I cannot get back $50 I don't have any faith this company will support or pay if something serious happens on a trip. Got a letter saying 20 percent discount if we purchase another year of travel insurance. Even one star is too high. Poor correspondence as well. CAA should disassociate themselves from this travel insurance company. As a result I have little confidence in CAA products they sell.

Date of experience : October 23, 2020

Purchased travel insurance through CAA…

Purchased travel insurance through CAA in Jan for a trip to Spain. Tour operator cancelled due to COVID 19 travel restrictions put a claim to Orion and was declined. Will be cancelling my CAA membership.

Don't Hope For Trip Cancellation

This company is not honouring trip cancellation for COVID-19. The company has quoted in the past that they will not be excluding cancellation coverage due to COVID-19 (google the phase "orion covid-19" to find news coverage). Orion travel insurance is denying my claim for trip cancellation from the COVID-19 travel advisories! This is a class action lawsuit in the making!

TRAVEL MEDICAL INSURANCE FOR GROUPS & INDIVIDUALS

Us citizens.

Travel medical insurance is designed to provide a valuable healthcare protection when leaving your home country. However, most U.S. health insurance plans offer very limited or no coverage abroad to help in the case of an emergency. For instance, Medicare offers no overseas benefits for seniors. Therefore, the travel insurance coverage is designed to supplement health insurance at home, but not replace it. This gives you an extra security blanket in the case of medical emergency.

Group Corporate Plans

Group Corporate Plans are designed to meet the needs of companies that are sending employees globally for less than 6 months. Unlike regular travel medical plans, preexisting conditions are typically covered. Pricing is based on how many days or weeks of travel the entire company projects over the next 12 months.

Common Types Of Group Clients:

  • Schools – Boarding school, study abroad
  • Corporations
  • NGO (non-government organizations)

Common Features and Benefits:

  • Global coverage
  • 24/7 multilingual assistance
  • Maximum benefits – most plans offer coverage from $50K to $1mil or more in total benefits
  • Assistance in locating quality medical care and in navigating foreign healthcare system
  • Online tools – access your policy information, travel information like health and safety warnings, drug and medical term translation guides
  • Renewable for a limited amount of time
  • Preexisting Conditions – typically excluded but some plans have limited or full preexisting conditions coverageOrion International Travel Insurance Case Studies

Orion International Travel Insurance Case Studies

Education success story.

A US based college prep school with 500 foreign students scattered around 4 campuses in 4 states. All are J1 visa holders and require medical insurance that meets US visa requirements as well as school medical requirements.

Challenge: Simplify Insurance Administration & Reduce Costs The School wanted a simple way to administer international students with medical insurance satisfying all requirements at a cost lower than their existing plan.

Solution: Orion International’s Student Travel Medical Insurance We created a high quality, easy-to-administer travel medical insurance plan for all students. The plan provided students with access to any doctor or hospital in the US plus a network of providers to minimize out-of-pocket costs. Benefits included coverage for interscholastic sports and other important features desired by the school.

Individual Client Success Story

A US senior citizen and spouse wanted to enjoy their retirement by taking multiple trips overseas. However, Medicare does not provide overseas coverage.

Challenge: Acquire Cost-Effective Overseas Travel Insurance For Retirement Both clients had pre existing conditions and were concerned about medical costs should they seek medical attention while overseas.

Solution: Orion International’s Annual Travel Medical Insurance For a low annual fee each year, both individuals were covered for an entire year regardless of how many trips they took. By electing a high level of coverage, their preexisting conditions were automatically covered – whereas the vast majority of travel plans would have excluded the same coverage. The couple had access to an excellent member website where they could research health and safety information and find local quality medical care with English-speaking staff in any major destination

Real Estate Success Story

A US based real estate firm experienced a growth phase that required them to frequently sending employees overseas and convening with foreign employees.

Challenge: Reduce Liability & Equip Employees with Adequate Travel Insurance US employees had extremely limited medical service coverage with their existing health plan and European employees had no coverage outside of their socialized health systems. The firm was concerned about the liability of sending employees overseas with inadequate health insurance.

Solution: Orion International’s Corporate Travel Medical Insurance We brokered a global corporate travel medical plan that covered all existing employees and new hires regardless of destination. Carrier provided excellent materials to give to travel employees such as ID cards with 24/7 multilingual assistance, access to member website to research doctors and hospitals at any destination.

High Risk Client Success Story

A broker approached Orion with a very unique client. The client was a US military contractor and needed a benefit program for their clients in Iraq, Afghanistan as well as several European countries.

Challenge: Acquire Travel Insurance for High Risk Zones This presented many unique challenges as many international benefits will have restrictions for war zones. Also, most of the unitization of the medical benefits would be in the US because the families would be staying behind.

Solution: Orion International’s High Risk Travel Insurance Orion’s solution incorporated benefits that included acts of war and terrorism. Families at home remained happy by having access to a large US PPO network. Orion even built an overseas employee benefit manual that included locations for medical care on US bases.

Insurance And Health Requirements

Orion Trek requires, as a condition of your package holiday, to purchase a suitable travel insurance protection. Travel insurance is entirely your responsibility and is an essential prerequisite for booking a holiday with us. You must ensure that you (and all members of your party) have sufficient travel insurance in place to cover you, along with your personal property, at all times and for all potential risks.

orion group travel insurance

You must ensure that your insurance covers you for the entire duration of your holiday, including, but not limited to, medical expenses, injury, death, repatriation, cancellation, and curtailment, as well as for any sports or activities that you may wish to undertake while on your holiday. Additionally, you must ensure that there are no exclusions or clauses limiting protection for the type of activities included in your holiday. Evidence of sufficient cover may need to be provided at the time of booking. If you do not have holiday insurance coverage at the time of booking, you may personally be liable for cancellation charges. For all clients arranging their insurance, we may ask for full details of the insurance company, policy number, and 24-hour emergency contact number. It is imperative that you familiarize yourself with the details and conditions of your policy and that you notify your insurance company of any pre-existing medical condition. Failure to do so can invalidate the insurance cover.

You represent and warrant that you and everyone traveling with you are physically and otherwise fit to travel and to undertake the activities included in your itinerary.

The tour may include many destinations and involve difficult terrain where facilities available to guests may not be sufficient if you (or anyone in your group) are unable to walk without assistance or accompaniment. Furthermore, there may be restrictions (due to the types of tours you may contemplate joining) on the equipment or additional aids that you (or a member of your group) may wish to bring with you for your comfort or ease if you are unable to walk or maneuver without assistance or accompaniment. Therefore, you need to check with us before booking to determine whether the proposed tour you and your group wish to join is appropriate for you and all the members of your group. We may ask you to answer various questions to determine if traveling on the proposed tour is possible for you and all members of your group, and we may make suggestions for how the tour could be taken with certain adjustments (if required), or whether a different tour may need to be offered to you to accommodate any requirements for assistance or accompaniment necessary for you or any member of your group to enjoy their holiday. Regrettably, we cannot provide individual assistance to a guest for walking, dining, or other personal needs.

You are solely responsible for checking (on your behalf and on behalf of all those in your group) with your (or the group member’s) doctor regarding which vaccinations (including for any specific illnesses or exposure to animals) or medications are recommended or required for the destination for those traveling and for any assistance that may be required.

We cannot accept any responsibility for your failure to comply with the necessary medical, passport, or visa requirements.

All passengers must have adequate insurance coverage against cancellation, illness, repatriation, loss of luggage, etc. You should inform us and your booking agent of the name of your insurer for the insurance policy you have taken out to provide you with adequate insurance coverage.

Portuguese-Flagged Ship Is Hit Far in Arabian Sea, Raising Concerns over Houthi Rebel Capabilities

This is a locator map for Yemen with its capital, Sanaa.

JERUSALEM — A Portuguese-flagged container ship came under attack by a drone in the far reaches of the Arabian Sea, corresponding with a claim by Yemen's Houthi rebels that they assaulted the ship there, authorities said Tuesday.

The attack on the MSC Orion, occurring some 600 kilometers (375 miles) off the coast of Yemen, appeared to be the first confirmed deep-sea assault claimed by the Houthis since they began targeting ships in November. It suggests the Houthis — or potentially their main benefactor Iran — may have the ability to strike into the distances of the Indian Ocean as the rebels previously threatened in their ongoing campaign over Israel's war on Hamas in the Gaza Strip .

The attack happened last Friday, according to the Joint Maritime Information Center, which operates as part of the U.S.-led Combined Maritime Forces in the Mideast. After the attack, the crew discovered debris apparently from a drone on board, the center said.

The ship “sustained only minor damage and all crew on board are safe,” the center said. Ship-tracking satellite data analyzed by The Associated Press put the container ship, bound for Salalah, Oman, in the area of the attack on Saturday.

The MSC Orion has been associated with London-based Zodiac Maritime, which is part of Israeli billionaire Eyal Ofer’s Zodiac Group. It was operating on behalf of the Mediterranean Shipping Co., a Naples, Italy-based firm. Zodiac referred questions to MSC, which did not respond to a request for comment Tuesday.

The Joint Maritime Information Center assesses “that MSC Orion was likely targeted due to (its) perceived Israeli affiliation,” the center said in a report.

Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree, a military spokesman for Yemen's Houthi rebels, claimed the attack on the Orion early Tuesday. He did not explain why it took the rebels days to acknowledge the attack.

The attack immediately raised questions about how the Houthis could have carried out an assault hundreds of kilometers (miles) from the shores of Yemen on a moving target. Their primary area of attack so far has been in the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden and the narrow Bab el-Mandeb Strait that connect the two waterways key for international trade. Those are close to Yemen's shoreline — unlike the site of the MSC Orion attack.

The Houthis are not known to operate an expeditionary naval fleet, nor do they have access to satellites or other sophisticated means of controlling long-distance drones.

Iran, which has been supplying the Shiite rebels in their yearslong war in Yemen, has been assessed by the West and experts to have been behind at least one complex attack claimed by the Houthis — the 2019 attack on Saudi Arabia's oil fields that temporarily halved the kingdom's energy production . Iran also routinely operates military vessels in the Arabian Sea and just seized the Portuguese-flagged MSC Aries and its crew just before its unprecedented drone-and-missile attack on Israel on April 13 .

Iranian state media uniformly reported the Houthis' claim of carrying out the attack on the Orion. Iran's mission to the United Nations did not respond to a request for comment.

The Houthis say their attacks on shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden are aimed at pressuring Israel to end its war against Hamas in Gaza , which has killed more than 34,000 Palestinians there. The war began after Hamas-led militants attacked Israel on Oct. 7, killing 1,200 people and taking some 250 others hostage.

The Houthis have launched more than 50 attacks on shipping, seized one vessel and sunk another since November, according to the U.S. Maritime Administration. Shipping through the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden has declined because of the threat.

Houthi attacks have dropped in recent weeks as the rebels have been targeted by a U.S.-led airstrike campaign in Yemen. The rebels have renewed their attacks in the past week.

The Houthis on Saturday also claimed they shot down another of the U.S. military’s MQ-9 Reaper drones , airing footage of parts that corresponded to known pieces of the unmanned aircraft. The U.S. military acknowledged the drone crashed, but said an investigation was ongoing.
