The Best Places to Visit in Nepal in June

June is considered to be the starting month of the monsoon season in Nepal. The weather is unpredictable with frequent and heavy rainfall, cloud cover, and landslides in upland parts of the country. June is considered a bad month for trekking. If you don't mind the wet conditions in June, however, it is a good time to save money and avoid the crowds. Here are some of the recommended places to visit if you are going to Nepal in June.

1. The Garden of Dreams, Kathmandu

Kathmandu is a year-round destination in Nepal. June is a good time to visit the Garden of Dreams, as the heavy rains make the plants green and clean. The garden is well-known for its historical and neo-classical designs. It covers about 6,895 square meters, where you can spend many hours if you like. You will get stunning views including well-designed trellises, and various planting areas, a flower garden with a large pond at its center, urns, paved paths, and pergolas. Many families and retired couples visit this beautiful garden at the weekends. If you don't want to get crowded in, just avoid the weekends.

2. Narayanhiti Palace Museum, Kathmandu

If you don't want to do certain outdoor activities during the rainy days in June in Kathmandu, then the Narayanhiti Palace Museum is a good place to spend a half day and learn more about Nepal's royal family and history, including Nepali architecture, the kings' personal things, daily routine, and stories of the royal family. There are many arts and cultural relics exhibited in the museum, including exemplary architecture, art pieces, ornaments, furniture, and more.

3. The Davis Waterfalls, Pokhara

June is a good time to visit waterfalls in Pokhara, as the extremely high rainfall makes the falls more magnificent during the monsoon season. One of the most visited cascades is the Davis Waterfalls. It got its name from a woman called Davis, who drowned in the waterfall. Situated in the midst of a rocky and lush landscape, the waterfall falls in a 150-meter (500-foot) -long underground tunnel. During the monsoon season, the waterfall is at its most impressive. You can walk behind the waterfall and enjoy its cool mist to escape the summer heat in June.

4. World Peace Temple, Pokhara

If it would be your first time to visit Pokhara, World Peace Pagoda should be on your list. It is located on the top of the Ananda Hill, where you can get a spectacular view of the Annapurna Mountain range, Phewa Lake, and Pokhara valley. You can see four statues of Buddha facing the four cardinal directions in the main Pagoda structure. If you are going to watch the sunrise or sunset in Pokhara, World Peace Pagoda should be your top option as a viewpoint. Remember to wear good quality shoes as the steps to the top are steep, and they're slippery on rainy days.

5. Chitwan National Park

June is a good time to visit Chitwan National Park, as the monsoon rainfall makes its plants lush and green and the animals are active during this time. Covering an area of 932 sq km (360 sq mi), Chitwan National Park attracts lots of wildlife lovers to spot one-horned rhinos, deer, monkeys, leopards, wild elephants, sloth bears, and even the royal Bengal tiger (if you are lucky) from all over the world. There are traditional Tharu cultural performances, which include music, dance, and traditional costumes, in the park.

Crowding and Costs in June

Due to its stormy, humid, and hot weather conditions (leading to flooding rivers, muddy trails, landslides, leeches, etc.), June is not considered a good time for trekking and doing other outdoor activities in Nepal. Few travelers choose this month to visit Nepal. There is no need to worry about crowding in June .

Hotels, tours, and flights operate on low-season prices in June . It is a good time to save money or spend more days in Nepal. Contact us — we can do all the research and booking for your ideal trip to Nepal.

What to Bring/Wear in June

June is quite warm/hot in Nepal during the day and mild/cool at night and in the early morning. You are recommended to pack summer clothes, such as shirts, light trousers, t-shirts, sandals, and sunglasses , with a light fleece jacket or hoodie to put on according to the daily temperature changes.

June is one of the wettest months of the year, with rain on about 15–20 days in most parts of the country. Umbrellas, waterproof shoes, and raincoats are needed more often than not in June. We recommend bringing spare footwear and clothes for if you get caught in the rain.

Nepal in June: Weather, Festivals, Trekking & More

Best Time to Visit Nepal / September 1, 2021 by fulltimeexplorer / Leave a Comment

June falls at the beginning of monsoon season in Nepal. While most of the rain hits towards the end of the month, I wouldn’t really recommend people to visit Nepal in June unless it’s the only time of year they can go. With rain comes landslides and mudslides which can delay travel plans and make getting around the country difficult. High altitude trekking in June can also be problematic and comes with some extra risks. Here’s everything you need to know before booking a plane ticket to Nepal in June.

Nepal’s Weather in June

Monsoon Season / Summer / Off Season

Average Temperature:

66-84 F (19-29 C)

Average Days of Rain:

What to expect:.

In Kathmandu, the average daytime temperature is around 81F (27C). In Pokhara, the average is around 90F (32C) making it the hottest month of the year there. In areas in the Terai, like Chitwan, the average temperature during the day is 105F (40C)! On a hot day it can go up to 112F! June is often a hot sticky month with high humidity due to monsoon season. You can expect it to rain half the days. In areas like Kathmandu, that might mean a few hours of rain followed by sunshine. In areas like Chitwan, it can mean a constant downpour for days which results in flooding.

Trekking in Nepal in June

Low altitude trekking:.

As long as you don’t mind getting a little wet, low altitude trekking in June isn’t terrible. I consider low altitude to be under 8,000ft (2,500m). Traveling around the Kathmandu Valley during this time can be nice. Just remember that it’s very hot during the day, so walking in the heat might be rough.

High Altitude Trekking:

I don’t recommend high altitude treks during the second half of the month due to flash floods, landslides, mudslides, etc. During the first half of June, you can typically trek without it being too terrible. I finished the Annapurna Circuit in June, and it wasn’t awful. Something to remember is that monsoon season means lots of clouds. The week that we trekked in June, we barely saw any mountains or views even when we were walking in them. We also got hit with snow as we went over the pass. This freaked a few people out because the path disappeared in the snow. If you go trekking in June, please hire a guide unless you know how to navigate without a trail, signs, GPS, etc.

Tourism in June

While July is the least visited month of the year, June isn’t too far off. If you like to avoid the crowds, this is a great time to go. With limited trekking options and a promise of rain, not many people chance coming to Nepal in June. The country receives half as many tourists as it does in the peak month of October according to the Nepal Tourism Board .

If you’re looking to get a good deal, June is one of the best times. Many hotels lower their rates in monsoon as an incentive to attract tourists. If rain doesn’t bother you, you can upgrade your travel plans to nicer accommodations or save money.

Having done a safari in Chitwan in June, I wouldn’t recommend it. The river was flooded and the grasses were so high that we weren’t allowed in the National Park. We had to go to a park on the outskirts and barely saw any wildlife. It poured the entire time and we were all soaked. Flash floods often flood the entire town near Chitwan this time of year.

Flash floods, landslides, mudslides, and rockslides are all an issue this time of year. Although you likely won’t encounter them firsthand, they may cause delays or cancellations to your plans. Roads often wash out, so buses can’t get through. Flights are delayed due to bad weather. Some trekking routes may be closed.

Best areas to visit:

It’s best to spend monsoon around the Kathmandu Valley. There are paved roads that are generally in good shape. The temperature isn’t too hot, and you don’t have to worry too much about rain every day.

Best areas to avoid:

Areas in the Terai like Chitwan, Bardia, and Lumbini are awfully hot. It’s also mosquito season and you’ll want to be careful about mosquito borne illnesses. This area also receives the most rain.

Festivals in June

(dates listed are for 2023)

June 29 th Ropain (Rice Planting Festival)

The Rice Planting Festival falls on the last day of June. This is usually the first day of rice planting which is a staple crop for the country. Visitors can join the fun and help plant rice in villages. This is often a muddy endeavor and is good for those who don’t mind rolling up their sleeves. It’s a great way to see local life and lend a helping hand. During the planting, you’ll see people singing, dancing, and splashing mud at each other.

June 29 th Edul Aajaha

Edul Aajaha is celebrated by Muslim families in Nepal. Muslim men go to the mosque in the morning to pray. In the evening an animal is sacrificed. A third of the meat is kept for the family, a third is given to the poor, and a third goes to friends and family.

Pros & Cons

  • Less crowded
  • Budget Friendly
  • Limited Trekking
  • Landslides, Mudslides, Flash Floods
  • Delayed Travel
  • Lots of Rain
  • No Wildlife Spotting
  • Hot Temperatures

Packing Essentials for Nepal in June

This probably goes without saying, but good rain gear is a must. I always have a raincoat, waterproof pants (if hiking), a rain cover for my backpack, waterproof bags for electronics, and I waterproof my hiking boots. It’s also important to consider malaria pills and carry a good insect repellent if you’ll be in the Terai for long periods of time.

13 Best Places to Visit in Nepal in June 2024

Dharan Nepal

Nepal, a landlocked nation surrounded by the wide and open Indian plains, is a mountaineer’s paradise. The stunning area is known for having some of the most famous snow-covered peaks. The Land of the Sherpas features snowy scenery, diversified topography, and a thriving tourism industry, which draws visitors to Nepal all year long. Trekkers flock to this Himalayan paradise, which offers incredible scenery and adventurous activities all year long.

Table of Contents

In June, these are the most famous places to visit in Nepal:

1. kathmandu.

Kathmandu Nepal

Nepal’s capital and greatest city, Kathmandu, is unlike any other place on earth. The vibrant energy permeating the streets contrasts sharply with the decaying structures in the city’s centre. Incense-scented wind drifts from shops as shoppers, and street vendors go about their daily business against a background of temples and sculpted statues.

Kathmandu was one of three competing royal towns, along with Bhaktapur and Patan, for several hundred years. Now, these three are so close together that they virtually overlap. Durbar Square, the largest of the three royal cities’ palace squares and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has long been a centrepiece of Kathmandu.

2. Pashupatinath Temple

Pashupatinath Temple, Nepal

Not only are there stupas and monasteries, but several Hindu holy sites are among the most popular tourist destinations in Nepal, such as Pashupatinath Temple, which is devoted to the god Lord Shiva. The temple is situated in a beautiful area on the eastern side of Kathmandu, along the banks of the Bagmati River.

It draws tens of thousands of worshippers who come to see one of the Jyotirlingas, the head of the body. The Nepalese Pashupatinath Temple was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. Many Hindu mythological deities, pictures, ashrams, and inscriptions may be found throughout the whole temple complex. Read More: Pashupatinath Temple, Nepal (Timings, History, Location, and more.)

Thamel Market, Kathmandu, Nepal

Thamel is one of Kathmandu’s busiest areas and a well-known destination for shopping and nightlife. One of the most well-known tourist destinations in Kathmandu to experience the local culture and food is Thamel, teeming with a wide variety of stores, hotels, and restaurants. Here, one may purchase traditional Nepalese clothing as well as other souvenirs.

Since visitors and residents frequent Thamel, it is virtually congested the entire year. The street is home to over 100 restaurants offering a variety of cuisines. This market is usually bustling with people since admittance is free and open every day of the week, including holidays.

Pokhara, one of Nepal’s most scenic cities, provides breathtaking views of the impressive Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and other mountain ranges.

That’s where the life of Gautam Buddha began. As a result, it is among Nepal’s most important tourist destinations . A really beautiful location for travel is this city. The peace and beauty of this location will enchant you. When you go there, you’ll understand the location’s atmosphere and importance.

See the Lumbini Monastic site, the Royal Thai Monastery, the Maya Devi temple, and the World Peace Pagoda while you are at Lumbini . Also, you may wander casually across the entire city. Yet compared to June, October is a little bit warmer. Even so, you won’t feel a bit uncomfortable when exploring the area.

Mustang, Nepal

Mustang is located in the Himalayas, north of Annapurna mountain. The area is renowned for its rocky, dry scenery, similar to the Tibetan plateau. The Mustangis are people with Tibetan ancestry and culture who strongly follow Tibetan Buddhism and live in Mustang. Unlike any other region of Nepal, Mustang is known for its distinctively coloured, dry highlands.

It might take weeks to finish the difficult walk to Mustang, depending on the route used and the hiker’s pace. The Mustang trip provides breathtaking vistas of Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna mountain ranges and the chance to explore historic Tibetan Buddhist temples and get a taste of the Mustangis’ culture and traditions.

7. Bhaktapur

Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Nepal

The third “Royal City”, Bhaktapur , is located outside Kathmandu on the former trade route to Tibet. For Bhaktapur, the trade route was a vital gateway and a substantial source of wealth. The city was able to grow freely and in ways that set it apart from the other two cities at the time due to its relative isolation.

Most people in Bhaktapur are Hindu, unlike Patan and Kathmandu. Durbar Square, where the royal palace and several other temples are located, is the greatest site to start a tour of the city. UNESCO has recognized the entire region as a World Heritage Site. While extremely slow, restoration work is still being done.

8. Chitwan National Park

Chitwan National Park Nepal

Come to Chitwan National Park to see Nepal from a fresh perspective. This location provides a safari-like feel and is great for observing animals. Chitwan has a moist tropical climate, which is extremely different from what you’d expect in Nepal. It is located at a height of barely 100 metres in some areas—much lower than Kathmandu at 1,400 metres.

Visitors come here to view the local fauna. Rhinos, leopards, Bengal tigers, gaur (buffalo), sloth bears, deer, and many more animals may be seen in the park. While rarely observed, crocodiles and freshwater dolphins (gangetic) live in rivers and streams. More than 500 distinct bird species may be found in Chitwan, making it a paradise for birdwatchers.

9. Ruby Valley

Ruby Valley Nepal

Central Nepal’s Langtang and Ganesh Himal peaks encircle Ruby Valley in the Rasuwa District. The Ganesh Himal range, Langtang Lirung, Lamjung Himal, and Manaslu can all be seen from Ruby Valley. Many ethnic groups, primarily the indigenous Tamang people with their own culture and way of life, call the Ruby valley home.

The Tamangs make their living via agriculture and animal husbandry. The area is also home to numerous Buddhist temples serving as cultural and religious landmarks for the local population. Instead of sleeping in hotels or lodges, trekkers on the Ruby Valley trip will stay at homestays, giving the entire journey a more cosy feel.

Ilam, Nepal

Between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius is the temperature range. Be sure to stop at the Kalika Temple when you are here. You may enjoy beautiful views of the surroundings from this temple’s vantage point. Nepal Weather in June

You can see dark clouds while sightseeing as it is monsoon season in Nepal.

Nepal’s weather in June varies from region to region, but it is predominantly wet and humid. Monsoon season in Nepal means that the capital Kathmandu has highs of 29°C and on average 17 days of rain, meaning that umbrellas and indoor plans are needed.

Pokhara, on the other hand, is slightly warmer with average highs of 31°C. The city also experiences less rainy days with an average of 11 days, mostly toward the end of the month. Further up north in the Mustang region of Nepal, you can experience a completely different climate with highs of 17°C and lows of 4°C. Although it rains an average of 14 days, it is just 69mm for the whole month—a fraction of the amount that falls in Kathmandu or Pokhara—making it one of the best places to visit in Nepal in June.

If you’re not sure when to visit Nepal, check out our seasonal overview - it’s our guide to the best time to visit Nepal .

Weather in Nepal in June - Rainfall and Temperatures

Why visit nepal in june.

You can see farmers plant rice in Nepal in June.

Despite the rainy weather, there are still plenty of great reasons to visit Nepal in June . Here are some:

  • Rice Planting Festival : While not everyone loves rain, farmers sure do. The start of the monsoons marks the start of the rice planting season in Nepal. Celebrated at the end of June, head to rice paddies all around the country and take part in the inaugural paddy plantation ceremony celebrated with traditional music.
  • Better rates: Hotel and flight prices tend to be a lot cheaper in June, as not many people travel to the country owing to the rainy weather and trekking routes are limited. Plan your trip at the start of the month when the prices have dropped and the bulk of the monsoon has not yet hit the country.
  • Low crowd: For the same reason why Nepal in June is cheaper, there are also way fewer tourists around during this time. As rains keep most visitors away from Nepal, you will find the country’s attraction sites free of crowds.

Where to go and what to do

Trek to Manaslu as it is one of the rain shadow areas in Nepal.

With the monsoon rains bearing down in most parts of Nepal in June, there are certain areas where it is simply too wet to hike or trek. But there are plenty of rain shadow areas, where it does not rain as much and the risk of landslides is less. One of such areas is Manaslu, which is often connected up to the Annapurna trek routes. You can check out some of the best Manaslu treks here .

Usually humid at other times of the year, June is also a great time to visit Chitwan National Park . The rainfall will provide some respite from the hot weather conditions in the south of Nepal. Plus monsoon means the area will be covered in greens which can make wildlife watching in their natural habitat even more exhilarating.

If you are heading to the Mustang region , you can also visit the Nepali Grand Canyon. A short day hike from Chele, which is easy to schedule around the daily rains, should take you to the Kali Gandaki Gorge, which is said to be one of the world’s deepest gorges. Cross over the bridge with the rushing river below it. There are also several other hiking routes in the area, including to the Upper Mustang.

What to bring

Visit Boudhanath during your trip to Nepal.

In addition to the regular wet weather gear, remember to pack long-length trousers and shirts, as the humidity and dampness of the season can bring out the leeches. Carry some analgesic with you because it will come in handy if you are bitten.

There is no getting around the fact that the monsoon rains make June a less than ideal time to visit Nepal. While some treks are possible, the combination of the heavy rains and humidity makes for a soggy trip. But if you are heading to the Mustang region of the country, June is a great time to explore its mountain landscape, where the rainfall is less frequent and tourist crowds are few around this time.

Need a hand planning your next trip to Nepal? Take advantage of our customizable trips to Nepal . Our local travel experts will do all the hard work for you, while you just need to focus on what to pack.

15 Top-Rated Tourist Attractions in Nepal

Written by Lana Law Updated Mar 22, 2022

Nepal is a surprisingly diverse country that attracts visitors for many reasons. Some are lured by the call of the mountains and seeking to climb or trek in the Himalayas, others are intrigued by the culture and the famous city of Kathmandu, and yet others come hoping to find some sort of spiritual awakening. Nepal can be an adrenaline adventure, a cultural eye opener, a life-changing experience, or all of the above.

Most travelers spend some time in Kathmandu visiting sacred and historic attractions, and then head out to other parts of the country. Some of the best places to visit outside the capital are Chitwan National Park and Bardiya National Park for wildlife viewing, and the lakeside town of Pokhara , a popular area for embarking on treks.

Trekkers will find a variety of options across Nepal, with the most important areas being the Everest, Annapurna, and Langtang regions.

In 2015, a major earthquake struck Nepal, causing severe damage in Kathmandu and other areas, and restoration is still underway. In Nepal, things take time to happen, and when they do, they tend to happen unevenly, so progress has been substantial in some areas and limited in others. That said, much of the damage to the major sights has been repaired, although some historical treasures were lost forever.

To find the best places to visit, have a read through our list of the top attractions in Nepal.

1. Kathmandu

2. bhaktapur, 3. boudhanath stupa (bodhnath), 5. trekking in the annapurna region, 6. chitwan national park, 7. trekking in the langtang region, 8. swayambhunath (monkey temple), 9. everest & the trek to base camp, 10. bardiya national park, 11. pashupatinath temple, 12. international mountain museum, 13. lumbini, 14. helambu trek, 15. white water rafting.

Kathmandu

Kathmandu, the capital and largest city in Nepal, is like no other city in the world. The decaying buildings in the heart of the city are a stark contrast to the lively atmosphere that permeates the streets. The smell of incense wafts from stores while street sellers push their goods, and people go about their daily lives, all against a backdrop of historic temples and carved statues.

For several hundred years, Kathmandu was one of three rival royal cities, along with Bhaktapur and Patan. Situated in close proximity to each other, today these three almost run together.

The highlight of Kathmandu has long been Durbar Square, the largest of the palace squares in the three royal cities and a UNESCO World Heritage Site . Temples and monuments of varying shapes, sizes, styles, and faiths can be found here.

Kathmandu's Durbar Square was severely damaged in the 2015 earthquake, with many buildings destroyed beyond repair, but it still remains a special place to visit.

Bhaktapur, the third of the "Royal Cities," lies on the old trade route to Tibet, just outside of Kathmandu. For Bhaktapur, the trade route was both an arterial link and major source of wealth. Its relative remoteness at the time allowed the city to develop independently and in ways which distinguish it from the other two cities.

In contrast to Patan and Kathmandu, the population of Bhaktapur is primarily Hindu. The best place from which to begin a tour of the city is Durbar Square, where in addition to the royal palace, several temples are also situated. The whole area is a UNESCO World Heritage Site .

Many of the buildings in Durbar Square in Bhaktapur were damaged in the 2015 earthquake; the main temples are close to being repaired fully. However, other buildings in the complex remain in ruin. The UNESCO-funded restoration work came to a stop in 2019 and the agency had to withdraw due to threats against its workers. The project has been turned over to the Nepali Department of Archeology. Restoration work continues albeit very slowly.

The Bodhanath Stupa, just outside Kathmandu, is one of the largest stupas of its kind in the world and dates to some time around the 6th century, possibly even earlier. Like Bhaktapur, it lies on the old trade route to Tibet and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The stupa itself is a symbol of enlightenment but at Boudhanath the symbolism is particularly clear. Each different shape represents one of the five elements, earth, water, fire, air, and sphere, which are also the attributes of the five Buddhas. Brought together in the form of the stupa, their unity reflects in abstract fashion the structure of the universe itself.

The stupa sustained minor damage during the 2015 earthquake and is now fully repaired.

Pokhara

Set at the base of the foothills and surrounded by some of the highest mountains in the world – Dhaulagiri, Manaslu, and Annapurna I – Pokhara is one of Nepal's most scenic cities. For trekkers, Pokhara is the gateway to the Himalayas and the starting point for treks to Jomsom and the Annapurna region. It's also a wonderful spot to relax for a bit, either before or after a hiking trip.

By population, it is the second largest city in Nepal after Kathmandu but still does not feel like a big city. As you travel from Kathmandu, 200 kilometers to the east, you'll notice the much cleaner air and pleasant climate almost immediately. Lake Phewa, with its cluster of lakeside hotels, restaurants, and shops, is ideal for those looking for a little relaxation.

The Annapurna Region is one of the most popular trekking regions in Nepal, with options that range from a few days to a few weeks. Three main routes in the Annapurna Region intersect and combine in places, and you can opt to do a portion or a variation on the routes. The routes are well marked and easy to follow.

The Annapurna Circuit around Annapurna Mountain takes about 21 days to complete and is incredibly popular with people who have enough time. This route is sometimes called the "Apple Pie Circuit," in reference to the fact that most of the teahouses along the route serve their own version of fried apple pie.

A popular hiking destination in this region, often offered in hiking packages in combination with the Annapurna Circuit, is the trek to Poon Hill (3,210 meters) near Ghorepani. Most hikers try to be on Poon Hill early to see sunrise and a stunning view of Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Machapuchare, and Singa Chuli.

The Annapurna Sanctuary nestles between the peaks of Annapurna and takes five days to reach. Muktinath is on the way to Annapurna but has since become a destination in its own right. The Muktinath route runs in the Kali Gandaki Valley on the east flank of Annapurna and takes seven days. North of Muktinath is Mustang, a small region that was only opened up to tourists in 1992. This area has its own fascinating culture.

In many regards, the Annapurna Region, north of Pokhara, is an ideal walking area. The dramatic contrasts of the Nepalese countryside are especially visible, from the subtropical vegetation of the Pokhara Valley to the dry rain shadow area, with features of the Tibetan plateau. The people and cultures are also very different: facial characteristics, food, houses, lifestyles, customs, and religion.

The Annapurna region was declared a protected area in 1986. Most importantly, it has a good infrastructure to support the many trekkers that come through this area. The paths are well maintained, and food and lodging are plentiful.

Chitwan National Park

Chitwan National Park is the place to come to experience a different side of Nepal. This is a wonderful place for wildlife viewing and it has a safari-type atmosphere. At an altitude of only 100 meters in some areas, much lower than Kathmandu at 1,400 meters, Chitwan has a tropical monsoon climate, quite different than what you'd expect to find in Nepal.

Travelers come here to see wildlife. The park is home to rhinos, Bengal tigers, leopards, sloth bears, gaur (buffalo), deer, and many other critters. Freshwater dolphins (gangetic) and crocodiles inhabit the rivers and streams but are rarely seen. More than 500 species of birds make Chitwan a paradise for ornithologists. Tours from the lodges take you out into the park, either on foot, or more often, on elephants for close-up views of the animals.

Chitwan lies southwest of Kathmandu close to the Indian frontier and is included in the UNESCO list of world cultural heritage sites.

The best time to visit Chitwan is from October to February. Average temperatures hover around 25 degrees Celsius (77 degrees Fahrenheit), with high humidity, although the mornings can be quite cool. June to September is the monsoon season, with frequent and heavy rain.

The Langtang Region, home to Langtang National Park , is an incredible area for hiking, with high passes, extensive views, old monasteries, and beautiful mountain scenery. Rhododendron forests bloom during the spring hiking season adding color to the vistas.

The region, home to the Sherpa people, is less developed than some of the other popular trekking areas in Nepal and generally less busy on the trails, despite its close proximity to Kathmandu. Villages with guesthouses and food can be found along the route, although somewhat more spread out than in other trekking regions.

This area can be reached easily from Kathmandu by jeep in seven to eight hours. On a clear day, the peak of Langtang Lirung (7,245 meters), which dominates the surrounding area of the same name, is visible from Kathmandu.

Trekking lengths and duration in Langtang range from a few days to a couple of weeks depending on the routing. Some trekkers combine Helambu and Langtang for a longer trek.

Swayambhunath (Monkey Temple)

Set on a hilltop to the west of Kathmandu, Swayambhunath is the second most important shrine in the Kathmandu Valley after Boudhanath. Due to the resident monkeys that inhabit parts of the temple, it is more affectionately known as the Monkey Temple.

The Swayambhu Stupa, painted with the eyes of the omnipresent god, forms the centerpiece of the temple complex. It was originally a prehistoric cult site, but the temple complex dates to the 5th century. Swayambhu plays a major part in the lives of the Vajrayana Buddhists of Northern Nepal and Tibet, but especially of the Newari Buddhists of the Kathmandu Valley.

The 2015 earthquake caused some damage to the Swayambhunath temple complex; however, repairs are now complete, and the temple is back to its original condition.

The summit of Mount Everest, the highest mountain on earth, reaches 8,848 meters (29,028 feet) high. Trekking in the Mount Everest area became popular following the now legendary first ascent of the peak in 1953 by Edmund Hillary from New Zealand and the Sherpa Tensing Norgay.

Since that time, many more have summited the mountain, but far more trek the route to Everest Base Camp simply for a glimpse of the peak far above. In recent years the mountain has seen its fair share of tragedy and drama. The 2015 earthquake and previous avalanches, along with disputes between climbers on the mountain, have left their mark on Everest trekking and climbing.

The Everest Region is generally not regarded as the most scenic region in the country for trekking, but the allure of Everest makes it a popular destination, both for climbers and trekkers. There are various routes to access base camp and several options for organizing a trip.

Many trekking companies offer a guided hike, either with Nepalese companies or western-based companies. It's also possible to hire a private guide or porter and do it yourself; however, all trekkers are technically required to have a guide. The main hiking seasons are in the spring and fall, from March to May and September to December.

For those not looking to trek to Mount Everest but still wanting to see the mountain , it is possible to see it on clear days from the hill town of Nagarkot near Kathmandu. Hotel staff will knock on guests' doors on clear mornings if Everest is visible. This might be the lazy traveler's best chance of seeing the world's highest peak.

Wild Bengal tiger in Bardiya National Park

Many people are surprised to learn that Nepal has extensive lowland areas where Bengal tigers, rhinos, crocodiles, and elephants roam. One of the best spots to see these animals in their natural habitant is Bardiya National Park (also Bardia National Park). In addition to the large animals, the park is also a bird-watching hot spot, with over 400 species either living in, or transiting through, the region.

Located off on its own in northwest Nepal near the border of India, this area is known for its river valleys, extensive grasslands, and tropical forest dominated by the Sal tree. Areas of the national park were once the exclusive hunting domain of Nepali royalty. Through the years, it has been expanded and now encompasses 968 square kilometers.

Pashupatinath Temple

Dating from the turn of the 17th century, the Pashupatinath Temple is the oldest temple in Kathmandu and also considered one of the most sacred in Nepal. Located in western Kathmandu along the Bagmati River, the temple is known for its beautiful pagoda-style architecture, with copper and gold covering.

The temple is dedicated to Pashupati, one of the incarnations of Shiva. Of the three gates, only the western one is open, and only practicing Hindus of South Asian descent are allowed inside. A good viewpoint of the complex for non-Hindus is located across the river. One note of caution: the monkeys that hang out around this area may look cute, but they tend to be aggressive and should be treated with caution.

International Mountain Museum

Located in the beautiful mountain town of Pokhara, the International Mountain Museum is a must-see prior to heading off on a trek. This very impressive modern building is a bright and airy space and houses all the information you could ever want to know about the mountains of Nepal and the people who inhabit them.

Three main galleries are spread throughout the museum, the first being the Mountain People Gallery. Here, through exhibits and a video, you'll learn about the Indigenous people of Nepal and the Khumbu region in particular.

The second gallery deals with the mountains themselves and provides extensive information on 14 peaks over 8,000 meters, along with an overview of the geology that formed them.

The third gallery provides insight into equipment used in mountain climbing and delves into the mythology of the secretive Yeti. In addition to the galleries, a Lakhang room is available for quiet contemplation.

If you're looking for other things to do nearby, outside is a tall triangular climbing wall along with a smaller version for those less inclined.

Lumbini

Lumbini is famous for being the birthplace of Siddhartha Gautama, the historic Buddha, known as Buddha Shakyamuni. Situated off the main tourist track, almost 250 kilometers from Kathmandu, Lumbini is a worthwhile detour on the route from Pokhara to the Chitwan National Park.

In this pilgrimage town , a UNESCO World Heritage Site, there is a feeling of tranquility. Most of the visitors are Buddhist pilgrims from around the world, retracing Buddha's footsteps through the stations of his life. The Maya Devi Temple , dedicated to Buddha's mother, is believed to be the spot where Buddha was born. It contains an ancient stone relief from the 2nd century AD depicting Buddha's birth.

The Helambu region is a popular trekking area, particularly with trekking companies offering guided hikes. This is largely because it is close to Kathmandu, does not reach astoundingly high elevations, and offers some beautiful mountain scenery.

For many of these same reasons, it is often touted by tour groups as being easy. However, many hikers who come here on tours find it is more demanding than they feel they were led to believe and more difficult than they anticipate.

Trekking in the Himalayas is always demanding, and although it is not as high as other treks, it is still a physically demanding hike and trekkers should be in good physical condition. With that in mind, this is a beautiful trek, with stunning rhododendron trees in bloom in March and April, and it's well worth the effort.

The Helambu region is inhabited by the Sherpas and situated in the upper part of the Malechmi Khola valley. The Helambu Trek can be started in Kathmandu and completed in five to eight days . The typical seven-day itinerary is circular, with the first day's section being repeated at the end of the walk. The sudden contrast between the lower and upper lying regions and their characteristic cultures is striking. Accommodation can be found in lodges and village guest houses.

White water rafting in Nepal

With towering mountains and rushing rivers Nepal is an excellent place for white water rafting. Several options are available depending on how much time you want to spend on the river.

An easy trip for travelers only looking for a one-day adventure is the Trisuli Rafting Day Trip from Kathmandu. Unlike many rafting trips, which are seasonal, this one is available year round. After your day of rafting, you can either go back to Kathmandu or on to Chitwan or Pokhara.

If you are looking to spend more time on the water and interested in more serious rapids, one of the most popular places to go is the Bhote Kosi River .

Bhote Koshi River Rafting trips take two days and are intense. You'll find yourself in the white water shortly after put in, and along the way, you'll blast through class IV and V rapids. The trip is 25 kilometers long and includes camping on the riverbank for one night. Meals are included.

Other multiday trips to consider are on the Tamur, Karnali, Arun, and Bheri rivers.

The best times to visit Nepal for temples, trekking and fantastic festivals

From mountain peaks to rolling hills and humid jungles to high-altitude deserts, Nepal offers up a remarkable variety of landscapes for such a small country. This varied terrain is home to a remarkably diverse range of people and cultures, ensuring that the Nepali calendar is packed with festivals, celebrations and special events.

Whether you’re here to trek through the Himalayas, spot rhinos on a jungle safari or explore the centuries-old temples of the Kathmandu Valley, it pays to get the timing right. Most travelers come to Nepal in the spring or fall, when the warm temperatures and clear skies are perfect for trekking and other adventure activities.

Smaller numbers head here in the winter, when the trails are icy and the hills are snowbound, and during the summer monsoon, when travel can be a challenge thanks to the rainy conditions, and views vanish behind dense rainclouds.

Here’s our guide to the best times to visit Nepal for trekking, temple-hopping and more.

The high season (October–November) is the time to trek in perfect weather

Warm, dry weather and cloud-free skies make the October-November period the most popular time to visit Nepal, with ideal conditions for trekking and other outdoor thrills in the hills. The downside is you’ll also find hordes of other travelers, including thousands hiking the trails that snake through the Annapurna massif and the foothills around Mt Everest (Sagarmatha).

The cost of accommodation spikes – particularly in traveler hangouts such as Kathmandu and Pokhara – and rooms get booked up well in advance. So do flights to trekking trailheads, so plan your transport well ahead at this time.

Shoulder season (March–April) is the best time for wildlife-watching

The spring is the second most popular time to visit Nepal, with warm weather and blooming rhododendron forests in the highlands. It’s increasingly hot in the southern Terai region, but the tall grasses that surround rivers and watering holes in Chitwan National Park and Bardia National Park have been hacked back by March, making it easier to spot one-horned rhinos, tigers and other wildlife.

Low season (June–September and December–February) is the best time for cheap deals

Although the timing of the monsoon varies a bit each year, the skies typically fill with rain clouds from June to September. Expect transport disruption, landslides, cloudy skies that block the mountain views and plenty of rain, mud and leeches on the trails. But the lack of fellow travelers, sizable accommodation discounts and lush scenery also makes the monsoon an interesting and inexpensive time to visit the country. Tourist numbers also plummet during the chilly Nepali winter, through some lower-altitude trekking routes remain open and the plains are warm and dry at this time of year.

During the winter, the Kathmandu Valley can be chilly in the evenings, and higher-altitude trekking areas are bitterly cold. Snow may block off some trekking routes and many teahouse and lodge owners close their doors. By contrast, the Terai is pleasantly warm and ripe for exploration. Key events: Magh Sankranti

The start of spring sees rising tourist numbers, as well as temperatures. Late February is a good time to visit the national parks of the Terai, go trekking at lower elevations, and hang out in the temperate traveler town of Pokhara. There are several notable events, including the Hindu festival of Holi, which can also fall in March. It marks the end of winter, symbolizes the triumph of good over evil and sees locals throw around vast quantities of vividly colored powder. Losar – Tibetan New Year, which falls in February or March – sees celebrations at many Buddhist monasteries. Key events: Losar, Holi

As temperatures continue to climb, the trekking areas get busier and higher-altitude trails become passable again, though cloud cover means the mountain views are often obscured at this time of the year. It’s an excellent time for safaris in the Terai. Key events: Seto Machhendranath Festival (can also fall in April), Maha Shivaratri (can also fall in February)

April is the second most popular time to trek, after the peak October–November trekking season. The Terai and other low-lying areas are increasingly hot and sticky, though wildlife-watching opportunities abound. This is a great month to visit Bhaktapur , which celebrates the New Year with Bisket Jatra, when huge wooden chariots carrying temple effigies are hauled through the city center’s meandering streets (celebrations spill over into neighboring Thimi). Key events: Bisket Jatra, Balkumari Jatra, Balaju Jatra

People ceelbrate Holi by throwing colored powder in Bhaktapur

In the run-up to the monsoon, temperatures soar in the Kathmandu Valley, the Terai and lower-elevation trekking areas, and rain showers become increasingly common in the afternoons. However, this is the prime season for mountaineering expeditions to Everest and neighboring peaks because of the favorable conditions at higher elevations.

May is also a good time to spot tigers in Chitwan and Bardia. Looking at the events calendar, Buddha Jayanti sees major Buddhist celebrations in Lumbini , Boudhanath , Swayambhunath and beyond, while the city of Patan hosts its biggest festival, with processions and chariot parades devoted to the deity Rato Machhendranath. Key events: Rato Machhendranath Festival (can also fall in April), Buddha Jayanti (can also fall in April)

The monsoon typically arrives in mid-June, though the start date can shift by several weeks from year to year. Expect swollen rivers, landslides, leeches, and extremely muddy or impassable trails. Tourist numbers plummet during this period, but so do prices. Expect disruption to transport by road and air.

The monsoon continues to pound Nepal, though a few high trans-Himalayan valleys escape the worst of the weather and remain open for trekking. They include Upper Mustang, which has a semi-arid climate and is rich in Tibetan culture.

Heavy rains remain a constant in August. The landscape is lush and farming areas are filled with fresh greenery. This is a busy month for Hindu celebrations, including Krishna Jayanta, the birthday of the Hindu god Krishna, and Teej, a three-day festival devoted to women (which starts at the end of July in 2022). Naga Panchami, celebrating the snake spirits of Nepal's rivers, ponds and temple tanks, is an interesting time to visit Bhaktapur. Key events: Ghanta Karna, Naga Panchami, Janai Purnima, Gai Jatra (can fall in September), Krishna Jayanta, Teej (can fall in July)

Trekkers crossing the Thorong La to Muktinath on the Annapurna Circuit

The monsoon generally peters out by mid-September, ushering in clearer skies. Travelers start to return, drawn by the warm temperatures, lush green landscapes and – thanks to high water levels in the rivers – excellent whitewater rafting. This is also the time for one of Kathmandu's biggest festivals, Indra Jatra, in which the Kumari – Kathmandu's 'living goddess' – makes a rare public appearance. Key events: Indra Jatra

The start of the high season in Nepal, with awesome Himalayan vistas, comfortable temperatures and perfect conditions for trekking. Demand for rooms, flight tickets and trekking lodges goes through the roof – book everything well in advance. This is also the time for Nepal’s biggest festival, Dasain, a 15-day celebration of Hindu goddess Durga’s triumph over the buffalo demon Mahisa-sura (it can also fall in September). Tihar (Diwali), the Hindu festival of lights, takes place in October or November, depending on the lunar calendar. Key events: Pachali Bhairab Jatra, Dasain (can also fall in September), Fulpati (Phulpati), Maha Astami, Navami, Vijaya Dashami, Kartika Purnima, Tihar (Diwali, can also fall in November), Newari New Year, Haribodhini Ekadashi

The peak season continues through November, with tourist numbers remaining high and excellent weather for trekking, mountain biking, rafting, paragliding and other outdoor adventures. The fascinating Sherpa festival of Mani Rimdu draws many visitors to the Solu Khumbu region around Everest (in some years it takes place in October). Key events: Kartik Dances, Mani Rimdu (can also fall in October)

Traveler numbers slowly decline as the winter starts to bite. Temperatures fall, snow dumps block high mountain passes and treks to areas such as Everest Base Camp and Annapurna Base Camp become much more challenging. It’s a good month to explore the national parks and religious sites in the Terai, where the weather is still warm. Many people had to Pokhara for the Pokhara Street Festival, a big celebration with cultural performances, parades and street food – book accommodation in the city well in advance. Key events: Bala Chaturdashi, Sita Bibaha Panchami, Pokhara Street Festival

Tips for visiting Nepal in June

Nepal weather & when to go: June

Nepal june weather overview.

June heralds the arrival of the monsoon in Nepal. The rains hit the east of the country first, early in the month. Hot air brought in from the south and east is laden with moisture from the Indian Ocean and when it hits the cooler air of Nepal's hills and mountains it drops it, often torrentially. Consequently, June is not the best month of the year to visit Nepal.

rhino

Unfollow the herd - travel in Nepal during June and enjoy fewer crowds, better availability, and help to spread the economic benefits of tourism.

Nepal weather & when to go

Pick a month below, june’s weather in detail.

It's low season for tourists in June, so if you can brave the downpours and don't mind getting up a little early, June is not a bad time to wander around ancient temples and explore Nepal's cultural treasures. Humidity levels on the plains and in Chitwan are high, so it can be tough going during the day here with temperatures in the mid-30s. It's high water season and rivers like the Trisuli are full, ideal for more adventurous white water rafting. Trekking isn't totally out of the question, but you will get wet at times and the mountains are often shrouded in cloud; trails can be muddy and the extra moisture tends to mean that leeches are a problem. However, the rain tends to fall mainly at night, which means the mornings can dawn clear and beautiful. There are few other tourists around in June and the temperatures at altitude are pleasantly warm, in the low 20s.

We think you may like this journey…

Rhinos & Rhododendrons

Taking an alternative approach to a classic Nepal combination, this journey contrasts the heady and hectic streets of Kathmandu with the open savannah of Chitwan National Park. Slow down to search for tigers and rhinos amid the wilderness, before strapping up your boots for a light trek between two atmospheric lodges in the Himalayan foothills around Pokhara.

Trekking in Nepal in June

trekking in Nepal in June

World-famous for its Himalayan ranges, Nepal is home to some of the most magnificent peaks in the world. Mt. Everest, Mt Annapurna, Mt Dhaulagiri, Mt Kanchenjunga, Mt Makalu to name a few. Along with these peaks, Nepal homes different trekking trails as well and trekking in Nepal in June is a great time to trek regions like Upper Mustang, Nar Phu Valley and Dolpo.

Trekking in Nepal is possible throughout the year. But, trekking in Nepal in June has its own perks. June is the starting month of the monsoon season in Nepal. Heavy rainfall and some thunderstorms are certain.

There are also a variety of treks to choose from in Nepal. From 2 days trek to a 2 months trek, adventurous, moderate, easy, all levels of treks are available.

However, since Nepal is a country of diverse geography, not all places experience Monsoon. There are plenty of treks you can still enjoy. The most famous ones being Dolpo and Upper Mustang .

These places fall in the rain shadow region. And so when other places in Nepal will be experiencing the monsoon, the rain shadow regions will be warm and dry.

Trekking in June also provides you with great scenery. The valleys are lush green and there are flowers blooming everywhere.

June is also considered as an ”off-season” for trekking making it easier for you to get more options in accommodation and food. It should also get a lot affordable too.

The trekking trails will be a lot less crowded and you will be able to trek in peace without all the noise. You can enjoy the picturesque scenery of the mountains and the valleys.

Even though autumn and spring are the best seasons for trekking in Nepal, trekking in June has its own unique experience and advantages.

With appropriate gears, clothing, and proper planning, trekking in June will be as much satisfying as trekking in any other season.

Nepal Weather in June

June is not only the starting month of monsoon in Nepal but also one of the hottest month in Nepal. The precipitation rate is generally around 198 mm.

In June, the maximum temperature is 27°C and the minimum temperature is 19°C. So, the climate is hot and humid most of the time.

You can expect showers almost everyday especially during night time with occasional thunderstorms. It is mostly cloudy during the day before it rains but after the rain, the sky is clear and sunny.

However, the weather differs depending on the regions. When the hilly region is experiencing extreme monsoon, the Himalayan region might not experience monsoon at all.

The rain shadow areas in the Himalayas receive very less to almost no rainfall during monsoon. Hence, making it the absolute option for trekking in June.

The hilly regions, on the other hand, experience a lot of rainfall during June and the trails get muddy and slippery making the trek challenging.

Despite this, you will still find people trekking in June in Nepal because trekking in June is a different experience on its own

Best Trekking Destinations in June

Allow us to usher you through some of the most recommended treks in Nepal for June

Upper Mustang Trek in June

Mustang is geographically divided into two parts i.e. Lower Mustang and Upper Mustang. Upper Mustang lies in the rain shadow region of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain, making it accessible even in the monsoon.

The average temperature during the day ranges from 13 degrees Celcius to 20 degrees Celsius. And it drops to -3 degrees Celsius to 0-degree Celsius at night.

The Upper Mustang trekking route stretches from the deepest gorge in the world, Kaligandaki to the highest regions of Lo Manthang.

Upper Mustang is also known as the Last Forbidden Kingdom since it was not open for the outsiders until October 1991. It is still a restricted area and you will need a special permit to enter Upper Mustang.

Its isolation from the modern world has retained its ancient culture, traditions, lifestyle and natural beauty.

You will get a chance to view the panoramic views of Mount Nilgiri, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri and several other peaks on the trail.

Upper Mustang itself is not affected by the monsoon. But the trekking trail in Jomsom can be muddy and slippery from the rain which can be a problem.

Also, the flights from Pokhara to Jomsom can get delayed or canceled due to bad weather conditions in Pokhara. So it is best to keep a few extra days in your itinerary to avoid any further problems.

Trekking to Upper Mustang is one best way to experience the true life of mountain people untouched by modernization.

Highlights of Upper Mustang Trek

  • Explore thousands of years old monasteries, temples, caves, and beautiful desert landscapes
  • Amazing view of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Mt. Annapurna, Mt. Machhapuchhre, and many other high mountain peaks
  • Enjoy the hospitality of the local peoples
  • Experience lifestyle, culture, and tradition of the Tibetan people.
  • Kali Gandaki gorge, the world’s deepest gorge

Dolpo Phoksundo Lake Trek in June

Dolpo is the largest district in Nepal but also the least populated. It is one of the most isolated and remote areas of Nepal. And lies between the Tibetan plateau and the Dhaulagiri Himalayan range making it a rain shadow region.

Foreigners were not allowed in this region until 1989, so it has maintained its ancient traditions, culture and its beauty.

Lake Phoksundo is an alpine freshwater lake and also the deepest lake of Nepal.

The trekking route to Phoksundo Lake starts from Juphal and finishes at the sacred Phoksundo Lake. The Phoksundo Lake is of no comparison when it comes to beauty. With its deep blue and emerald color surrounded by steep bold rocks, it is heaven like.

On the route, you will come across small authentic Tibetan villages and witness their unique culture and traditions. You will also get amazing views of some mountain ranges like Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Kanjiroba.

The people of Upper Dolpo practice the BonPo religion which is an ancient pre-Buddhist religion. Buddhism replaced it, and later it began to spread across Tibet in the 9th century.

Since Dolpo lies in the rain shadow region, you can trek to Phoksundo Lake even in June.

But, bad weather can affect the roads and flights. So add buffer days in case of flight cancellations and road blockage.

Highlights of Dolpo Phoksundo Lake Trek

  • Sacred Phoksundo Lake, a mix of both culture and immense beauty.
  • Experience ancient Tibetan culture.
  • See the spectacular Jharna waterfall.
  • Explore the ancient Tshowa Gompa, a 900-year-old Bon monastery.

Annapurna Circuit Trek in June

Probably the most famous trek in the world, it attracts over 20,000 people every year.

Since it is overflowing with trekkers during the peak seasons, June is the better way to avoid the crowd as it is the offseason.

Our recent trip to Nepal was an amazing experience . It truly was a trip of a lifetime! Upon arrival we were warmly welcomed by Shailesh Pokharel, the local travel advisor and this was a fantastic start! Despite the constant rainy weather everything went as planned. The trip, overall, was a huge success. Even in difficult, due to the rain situations, our guide, Valmiki Rijal, Sujan, as we used to call him, offered alternative solutions that help us to enjoy every moment of our trip. On the way to every location, he provided interesting and fascinating facts about the history and geography of the places and regions. He is very knowledgeable about Nepal in general, he is nice and engaging and made sure to give us an amazing experience. Sujan was very patient with us and did his best to accommodate our needs and interests. Sujan is a great guide, a true sample of excellent tour guide! After spending 7 days with him, I don’t hesitate to say that we got an exceptional friend in Nepal. Apart of the rainy weather, the other problem we faced was the bad condition of the 2 hotels we stayed in, but again everybody did their best to facilitate our stay. Both Shailesh Pokharel and Valmiki Rijal, (Sujan) and all the people met in Nepal were so friendly that make us felt like home. During our stay in Nepal, we always felt like we were among friends. We really loved meeting Sujan’s family and enjoying the dinner, Shailesh’s wife offered to us at their home. Shailesh and Sujan you have did a great job. Thank you! We highly recommend Nepal Trekking Routes!

Our tour guide, Navaraj Shrestha, worked very hard and went out of his way many times to make sure everything about our tour was perfect. He is very knowledgeable and a delightful, happy person. He shared many interesting stories and checked in on us often. All accommodations were very good. We enjoyed meeting so many beautiful Nepali people!

Everest View Trek - Experience the wonderland of the Himalayas Tour

Everest View Trek - Experience the wonderland of the Himalayas

“Fantastic trip!” From the moment of initial contact to the final send off, this trip has been perfect! I was in Kathmandu with a colleague for business for couple days. We figured if we are going to fly half way around the world, we need to see the Everest at very minimum. Friend of mine recommended Nepal Hiking team. And I am very happy she did. Ganga was great. Right from the arrangements and bookings from Canada, he was nothing but professional, accommodating, and friendly. We were taking care of from A to Z. The trip around Kathmandu is well worth it even if you have visited some of the sites already. You will learn a thing or two from the guide and will be driven around the city in air conditioned car, which beats the local taxis! Our trek guide, Bim, was experienced, wise, reliable, and considerate man who had taken fantastic care of us throughout the trek. Next year, when I am back for another (longer) trip, I would love to trek with him once again. We did Everest Panorama Trek, which is basically shorter version of the base camp trek. The challenge of climbing steep trails is more than rewarded by gorgeous views of the top of the world and by the hospitality of people you meet on the way. You are staying in tea houses and the maximum altitude is around 4000m. Flight to and from Lukla is crazy! Namche Bazaar requires effort to get to, but well rewarded by hot showers and decent coffee in multiple bakeries perched on the hills. The next day you will see the Everest for the first time. Guarantee you will never forget that. Make sure you escape the Buddhist monk’s service to watch the sunset over the Everest. Word of advice: - If you are not someone who can run about 5k without dying, you should train before you go. It is certainly not an extreme challenge, but you have to be in a reasonable shape in order to hike at altitudes safely. - become a vegan for the duration of your trip, if you want to avoid diarrhea. The meat and dairy are not safe for multiple reasons (lack of refrigerators and the power that cuts off for several hours daily just some of them). The traditional vegan Nepali food is so much better anyway. - look at the list of required equipment on the Nepal Hiking Team website and do not try to save money on things like shoes and rain gear. - do save money and space in your luggage by getting hiking polls in Kathmandu and giving them away to someone before you leave. - bring a hat and good quality sunscreen. - Also buy toilet paper or wipes when you arrive. You are welcome. - make sure you have lots of space on your camera to take unbelievable pictures! - do leave space in your luggage for shopping at Kathmandu at the end of your trip. Have a fantastic time. This has been one of the best trips EVER!

Best Classic Nepal Tour (Kathmandu, Chitwan and Pokhara)- 8 days

We had a very adventurous and enjoyable trip in Nepal. I was asked to jpin 2 pax and it turned out wonderfully. We enjoyed every moment of our time spent in the trip. Guides were wonderful. Very organised and helpful. Communication with the staff members were excellent. Very quick response in replying. The only critiscism was the use of electric van to bring us from Kathmandu to Pokhara, we couldnt have much of the air conditioning in the van and we were very uncomfortable throughout the journey. Yes, overall, we had a great and memorable time and we will definitely use tour radar again. Well done and keep it up. Thanks very much. C.

Langtang Valley trek 10 Days Tour

Langtang Valley trek 10 Days

I arrived in Kathmandu and had been on a previous tour, the Himilayan Adventure team head by Rana therefore picked me up from my previous hotel and took me to my new residence for the evening; here I met my guide and was given the detailed info regarding the holiday. Rana was very approachable and a great front man for the company. I started off on my trek the next day with Durga, my guide for the trek. I can honestly say that the experience was everything a trek should be, it was challenging, I explored local life, I made friends and I was 150% looked after. The guidance given by Durga was excellent; he pointed out fauna , flora and the Nepalese animals, he told me about the history related to the trek and most importantly spoke about how to best manage the trek, walking and breathing. Overall I had a magnificent time, no stone was left unturned. Thankyou Aditya for your utmost attention and to Rana for running such a great tour.

There was a diversity of monuments and places of interest and enjoyed all of it. Definitely recommend to pay for the optional Everest flight. Worth every penny!

I had an amazing trip! I recommend 100%!! When I arrived in Kathmandu I was welcomed by the tour company owner, Rana, who discussed the trip with me and made me feel really at ease (solo female traveler). I thought it was really great for him to come and welcome me at the airport and have coffee with me at the hotel. He really cares about his customers and ensuring that they have a wonderful trip. My guide was Sanjaya who guided me through Kathmandu, Chitwan, and Pokhara. He was extremely knowledgeable, fun, and helpful throughout the journey. I got quite ill at the end of the trip and he was very attentive. I loved everything about this trip and will be returning to Nepal again and traveling with this company again!

Good hotels in Kathmandu & Pokhara Good guesthouses on track, particularly Green View Lodge at Birethanti Good guide/porter (Tenezi Sherpa) who was very experienced with the track and quite good English. My booking was honoured even though I was the only booking for the tour. Rana is very personable and experienced in the trekking business. Rana provided a waterproof duffel bag and sleeping bag, which were very helpful Rana honestly answered my many questions orior to booking so I knew exactly what to expect

Kathmandu & Pokhara Holiday Tour 6 Days Tour

Kathmandu & Pokhara Holiday Tour 6 Days

Adventure Himalayan Travels and Treks organized a good tour, The manager Rana was quite helpful in answering my questions before the tour and also was quite helpful in making last minute changes to accommodate some of my requests - for eg trying to do a helicopter flight to Annapurna, etc. The guide Sanjaya Khanal was excellent! He was quite knowledgeable and friendly. He made the whole experience quite enjoyable since he gave me great company throughout the whole trip. Sanjaya also helped to arrange paragliding for me at very short notice which was the highlight of my trip. The driver Krishna was also very good and patiently drove us the almost 12 hrs it took to go from Pokhara to Kathmandu (because of Dussehra festival traffic) The one regret I had was not being to go on a mountain flight to Annarpurna/Everest because of weather. But thats not any fault of the tour operator. Some of the hotels in the smaller places (Nagarkot) could have been better, but overall, not bad. Overall I really enjoyed the tour.

Highlights Of Nepal Tour

Highlights Of Nepal

We had our high school trip in Nepal for around 25 students between 15 to 17 years old with us. Nepal was one of the most exotic place that we visited in our live. The people of WTX were extremely kind to us and they made us discovered an amazing country rich of culture, peoples and traditions. Also, they were extremely conscientious about the quality of the water of the food that the restaurants served us. All the students and the teachers felt in love with the kindness of our guide. several tears flowed at the airport when we left. Thank you for taking care of us, thank you for all the stories, the smiles, the aventures and all the memories you created. One day, We'll be back in a personal trip and there will be no other choice than World Travel Experiences

Spiritual Journey of Nepal Tour

Spiritual Journey of Nepal

When we arrived to Nepal we was welcomed by Navaraj Shrestha. He was very kind, knowledgeable guide. He planned all asspects of our trip and was always very responsive if we needed anything. He was very flexible as well if we wanted to change something like to go for a walk instead of a car drive. Truly enjoyed his care and dealing with Navaraj. If we have a slight complaint is about our driver on the days we went alone with him. He was late to pick us up, got lost looking for hotels, stopped to have tea and made us wait for him after he was late that morning for 40min and we was 1hr into our journey. The road was very dusty and he didn't want to put air-conditioning on.

Lukla: Complete Guide to Visit

Approach the airport runway at Lukla, Nepal. GETTY

Lukla, also known as लुक्ला [ˈlukla] in Nepali, is a quaint town situated in the Khumbu Pasanglhamu rural municipality of the Solukhumbu District in Province No. 1 of northeastern Nepal. Perched at an elevation of 2,860 meters (9,383 ft), it has become a popular destination for tourists and trekkers visiting the Himalayas and Mount Everest. Despite its name meaning “place with many goats and sheep,” the presence of these animals has dwindled in recent times.

The town of Lukla boasts a small airport that serves as a gateway to the region. It is equipped with various shops and lodges that cater to the needs of visitors, offering Western-style meals and trail supplies. Starting from Lukla, it takes approximately two days for travelers to reach Namche Bazaar, a village that serves as a crucial stop for acclimatization to the higher altitudes for those continuing their trek. In August 2014, the Nepalese government revealed plans to construct the first tarmac road connecting Kathmandu to Lukla.

The airport features a short and narrow paved tarmac runway. The runway at Lukla Airport measures 527 meters in length and 65 feet in width, making it significantly smaller than conventional airports. Instead of relying on air navigation or radar systems, radio communication is used for takeoffs and landings. The airport is designed to accommodate helicopters and small fixed-wing aircraft with short takeoff capabilities, such as the Dornier 228 .

Landing at Tenzing Hillary Airport occurs from the north to the south, while takeoffs happen in the opposite direction, from south to north. The runway is protected by a wired fence and is guarded by the Nepal Army.

Despite its small size, Lukla Airport remains bustling throughout the year due to the substantial influx of hikers and trekkers visiting the Everest region. It serves as the starting point for the popular Everest Base Camp trek itinerary in Nepal. In addition to passenger flights, the airport plays a crucial role in transporting building materials and cargo to Lukla and other towns and villages in the Everest region.

Lukla Airport, with its unique charm and breathtaking surroundings, serves as a vital hub for adventurers embarking on their journey to the majestic Mount Everest and the surrounding Himalayan landscape.

Every possible danger at Lukla

Lukla Airport (Tenzing Hillary Airport) indeed presents several challenges and dangers for pilots due to its unique location and characteristics. Here are some of the potential dangers associated with Lukla Airport:

  • Short Runway : Lukla Airport has a very short runway, measuring only 527 meters in length. This limited runway distance poses challenges for both landing and takeoff, requiring precise maneuvering and braking control.
  • Narrow Runway : In addition to its short length, the runway at Lukla Airport is narrow. The width of 65 feet leaves little room for error during landing or takeoff, demanding precise alignment and careful navigation.
  • Challenging Terrain : Lukla is nestled amidst mountainous terrain, making the approach and departure paths complicated. The presence of steep slopes, jagged peaks, and unpredictable winds adds to the difficulty for pilots, requiring exceptional flying skills and situational awareness.
  • Unpredictable Weather : The weather conditions in the Everest region can change rapidly and unexpectedly. Dense fog, low clouds, and strong winds are common, causing reduced visibility and turbulence. Pilots must be prepared to encounter adverse weather conditions and have the ability to divert or delay flights if necessary.
  • High Altitude : Lukla Airport is situated at a high altitude of approximately 2,860 meters (9,383 ft). The thin air at such altitudes affects aircraft performance, reducing engine power and lift. Pilots need to make adjustments to their flying techniques and account for the decreased air density.
  • Limited Instrumentation : Lukla Airport does not have advanced instrument landing systems or radar equipment. Instead, pilots rely primarily on radio communication and visual references for safe operations. This places a greater responsibility on pilots to maintain situational awareness and make precise judgments during critical phases of flight.

It is crucial for pilots operating at Lukla Airport to possess specialized training and experience in handling challenging airport conditions. The combination of short runways, narrow width, mountainous terrain, unpredictable weather, high altitude, and limited instrumentation makes Lukla Airport one of the most demanding and dangerous airports in the world.
